I'm fucking watching expedition unknown and I was about to change it to put on a movie when Josh was going through the Audubon "also known as Hitlers only good idea" at like 230 mph and then he was like, before my car broke a sweat I'm in Austria, "don't worry if you didn't see the border sign, neither did the German army" and I

Really the only subscription service I need is Discovery+, because honestly the most vital piece of pop culture that I consume these days is House Hunters, I find the rhythm of the episodes soothing.
But whenever Discovery+ sends me the email being like “Here’s what’s trending!,” it’s never anything I’m watching, so here’s what I’m watching on Discovery+ (other than House Hunters and House Hunters International).
--Saving the Manor: This show is like something I wrote come to life. I can’t get over it. An adorable gay couple, one of whom is British and one of whom is Spanish, have bought a three-hundred-year old manor house or something and they are slowly renovating it bit by bit. They’re so loving and charming and buy each other little surprise gifts and are just clearly so delighted by each other. Also so competent! They are like characters I would write, which might be creepy, but this is the highest praise I can give them.
--The Lost Kitchen: I love this show so much. I love how it talks about food, and it totally makes living in rural Maine look super-charming and lovely. I would hate living in rural Maine, but all these happy farms and this cozy restaurant try to trick me otherwise.
--Art in Bloom: Listen, I cannot paint, I’m very bad at any kind of art like that, I’m terrible at it, but I’m fascinated by watching this woman do her watercolors, because it just displays to me how differently her brain works than my brain does. It’s so cool to watch someone do something that they understand so naturally, like, “Oh, yes, first I’ll fill in the negative space, la la la,” and I’m just like, ...this is witchcraft.
--In with the Old: I get so upset when I watch shows about old houses and they’re like, “I love to preserve the character!” and then I watch them board up all the old fireplaces with shiplap, like, that so frustrates me. This is a show that doesn’t do that. They really work with the old houses to update them in a way that you would want to live in them, but you can still tell they were old houses, they’ve got the little quirks.
--Where I Call Home: On this show, people talk about the unusual places they have renovated to live in. It’s SO COOL. I love how inventive and creative people are. I would love to live in an unusual place like that but I don’t know if I would be able to envision how to get from Point A to Point B.

Warner Bros. Discovery officially announced Max as the new name of its flagship streamer, lopping off the HBO part of the name as it mixes in a big bucket of new content from Discovery+ and other new original series.
The company announced the name change at a press event Wednesday, where it also revealed a slate of upcoming projects. The rebuilt Max is set to launch first in the U.S. on May 23, 2023 featuring what the company promises will be an average of more than 40 new titles and TV show seasons every month.
“Max is the one to watch,” WBD CEO David Zaslav said on stage at the event, featuring thousands of shows and movies on the service for every member of the household.
According to the service’s website, Max will be available in three different versions. The first two plans align with the existing HBO Max pricing, and WBD said current HBO Max customers will not see their pricing change (for now) when the new service debuts. The third tier, “Max Ultimate,” expands to up to four streams and includes 4K content. The trio of options are:
Max Ad-Lite ($9.99/month or $99.99/year): Two concurrent streams, 1080p HD resolution, no offline downloads, 5.1 surround sound quality
Max Ad Free ($15.99/month or $149.99/year): Two concurrent streams, 1080p HD, up to 30 offline downloads, 5.1 surround sound quality
Max Ultimate Ad Free ($19.99/month or $199.99/year): Four concurrent streams, up to 4K Ultra HD resolution, 100 offline downloads, Dolby Atmos sound quality
Warner Bros. Discovery in January hiked the price of HBO Max without ads from $14.99 to $15.99 per month in the U.S., while the ad-supported plan stayed at $9.99/month.
The Max Ultimate tier will have an expanded catalog of content available in 4K UHD including from franchises such as “Game of Thrones,” “The Last of Us,” “Harry Potter,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Dark Knight Trilogy” and more. In addition, all Warner Bros. movies released this year and in the future will also be available in 4K UHD when they arrive on Max following their theatrical windows, the company announced.

I like watching renovation shows. It's one of my guilty pleasures. It's trash tv & background noise.
It also helps when looking for rent houses when hunting for a place to live - because it shows you which homes are overly gentrified & to watch out if you recognize something from a show.
Because if they're DIYing stuff to look 'hip'. Be expecting shoddy work at best & future repairs to go the same way.
Because if it's cosmetically/aesthetically appealing you're more than likely going to subconsciously overlook things with the house. & it gives them an excuse to upcharge you for rent/purchase.
Anyway, I'm currently starting a show on Discovery+ called 'Houses with History'. Where they restore historical houses in Massachusetts.
There are two white aged hipster dudes (so far) as the show runners. & their intro was so whitewashed & colonialist centered. Because of course it is.
At this point my watching is morbid fascination & seeing what 'historical facts' they know about these individual homes.
& also because I used to help my dad & uncles restore mansions (poor day laborers) in Oklahoma. & as an adult I helped the Oklahoma County Historical Society rehabilitate historical properties. So I kinda wanna see how they fuckup the restoration of these places.
If it's interesting enough, I'm gonna have my wife @in-the-night-kitchen watch some of this with me.

They should've called it DiscoMax. 100% more confusing and yet hilarious marketing.

Not really related to cartoons, but it’s a slight update. HBO Max and Discovery+ aren’t going to merge after all, because they realized people who subscribe to the cheaper Discovery+ would not like to pay more than double for a combined service. They are still planning on putting Discovery+ content on HBO Max, and HBO Max is still planning on the “Max” name change, but Discovery+ is here to stay.

Dear Cooking Show Judges,
There are breakfast dishes that don't have eggs in them and that take skill to prepare.
Reasons for this include (1) they are equally as good as egg dishes and (2) egg allergies exist.
Please stop claiming something "doesn't read breakfast" over a lack of eggs.
Sincerely,
Humanity
