something beautiful about FHSY is that it’s genuinely terrifying. what do you mean Aelwyn is tortured for almost an entire year and not allowed to trance. what do you mean the only comfort Adaine could truly give Aelwyn was her mind before the torment. what do you MEAN Adaine will live her whole life knowing how much changed for Aelwyn but Aelwyn will never truly remember how her mind was irreparably broken. what do you mean—

can't stop thinking about brennan saying "i'm going to describe something very heartbreaking now." how often does he break the kayfabe just to warn one of the players about the next thing he's going to say?? so much tragedy in dimension 20 but it's here, this moment, that is devastating enough that brennan takes a moment to give a warning: i'm going to describe something very heartbreaking now.

adaine abernant grew up lonely and abused in the shadow of a cruel, perfect aelwyn who could do no wrong. adaine didn't even want to find aelwyn, and every step their adventure took in her direction was a step adaine asterisked with a loud proclamation that she hated her bitch sister and didn't care about finding her. and only after discovering that aelwyn had been a months-long prisoner, tortured at her parents' hands, only after hearing a destroyed aelwyn apologize, does adaine consider that maybe aelwyn was a victim, too. and she overcomes her childhood resentment. she sees the bigger picture. she rescues her sister. she protects her as they sleep, and aelwyn's magic protects them in return. it is, maybe, the first time adaine truly feels that she has an older sister. and there's hope now. aelwyn has been broken down, but also redeemed, and they're together now, and adaine can help her, and they can be a family, because people aren't perfect, but aelwyn said she's sorry. and adaine goes into her mind and sees all the self-loathing she never knew about, and even more than that the fear of their parents, and she understands aelwyn so perfectly in this moment, all bitterness and spite dissolved, just a young woman taking a leap of faith and being rewarded with family, finally, a sister she never got to have, who actually loves her and believes in her and wants to keep her safe.

and then aelwyn's memory resets.

and in an instant, adaine loses everything she never knew she could have.

pretty heartbreaking.

I don't know how to explain how much these two mean to me. They are the non-biological-not-raised-together siblings of all time. They are so ride or die. One time a man threatened Riz and Fig got that guy to jump out a window. One time Fig pretended to be a doctor and Riz helped her successfully do magic surgery without ever coming out of hiding. They both decided together to never ever tell Gorgug that Fig did the sealing spell without ever saying a word to each other about it. Fig joins Riz and Sklonda on their murder investigation road trip. Riz ate dinner all the time with Fig and her elf dad. They comfortably hang out in hell with a sentient blood blob and a motorcycle that's secretly a dog. He's her legal counsel. She encourages him to hiss at people more. They trust each other with their lives. They are celestial and infernal, connected to the outer planes by their relationships to their fathers and then making that connection their own. Their parents are dating but honestly that's the least relevant detail in all of this. Do you see the vision

In episode one of Fantasy High, Adaine casts Tasha's Hideous Laughter on Aelwyn and Aelwyn not only makes her save but reverses it onto Adaine. Eleven episodes later, Adaine casts Tasha's on Aelwyn as the final blow to defeat her in an all out battle and thoroughly embarrass her in front of all of her peers.

Now, Adaine casts the same spell on Aelwyn as a bit of good natured teasing and Aelwyn elects to fail the save.

Aelwyn might not want to heal as fast as Jawbone wants but she IS healing. They both are!

i seriously cannot get over the abernant sisters being THE sisters ever… from “…and though you have not earned it, i do love you.” to “PLEASE come to my apartment with 10 cats, i miss you” and awful insults and curses to playful banter between sisters. from “you’re the absolute worst” to “we should do magic and eat ice cream forever!”

they’re both still figuring out how to be sisters after years of being pitted against each other…but even after everything they went through, they still met each other on the other side of it and they love each other.

they LOVE each other.

sure it’s hard to say and sometimes it’s awkward because of how they grew up. they joke about it and poke fun at how aelwyn in particular has gone through so much in the past year alone.

but god, do they love each other.

“will you be my big sister?” will always stick with me. the innocence of wanting to believe in the only other person that understands everything you’ve gone through. of wanting to give aelwyn a second chance, not because she earned it, but because of the simple fact that aelwyn is her sister.

i love the abernant sisters so much and i miss them already 😭

in hindsight, s1 shellford listing the teachers who watch the crystal footage ("porter looks at it, jace looks at it, coach daybreak looks at it, vice principal goldenhoard looks at it") is absolutely hilarious.

4/4 bbegs. do none of the GOOD teachers want to take a gander at the crucial security footage while teenage girls are going missing en masse??
