something about how maxwell assumes his alter ego by removing layers, not adding them. something about the animal violence held back and smothered by thin layers of civility and rules, like ripling muscles disguised by starched waistcoats, like satin gloves on bruised fists.
something about how rowdiness is something uncouth, of the lower classes, to be avoided by the Nice Well-To-Do Young Men of Gath. something expected of someone like Van, so she has never seen need not to embrace it. something about how Gotches Stay On The Ground, (never get their hands dirty) about how the first word another character used to describe Maxwell was "obedient"
something about how "-well" is a family naming convention, how in the ring he is "the max", no well, no gotch, just him stripped of the ways in which his family seeks to define him.
who are you when you are most yourself?
does it scare you? should it?
something about satin over bruised knuckles. something about taking it off.
im gonna throw up

sometimes brennan just smacks me in the face with his incredible worldbuilding so hard it pisses me off
wdym the trees in zood were fighting for sunlight so hard that they just went fuck it and started floating, and they pulled dirt up with their roots, and that’s what the floating islands are
that’s such a cool idea i’m so mad i never thought of that before

Okokok this is such an undeveloped theory but:
I think Zood might be somehow on a tidally locked planet? Or maybe it used to be???
A tidally locked planet is (and take this with a grain of salt I’m not a scientist) a planet that is so close to its star that the intense gravity that that sort of proximity entails means that the planet doesn’t spin on its own axis. It rotates around the star but, like how the same side of the moon faces us all the time, there is a side in eternal day and one in eternal night. There are theories that if a planet like this had the right atmosphere which was capable of distributing heat slightly more evenly despite the extreme difference in light, it could be not completely frozen or burning, and it could also have a belt around the middle which could be a livable climate.
Specifically the thing of there being one natural line that is so definitive that you can put it on a compass? That would make sense if it was the belt around the middle of the planet which is in between eternal day and night.
Also the way that it goes from a lush jungle (the middle which could sustain water) to desert (the side in constant sun)
Not to mention all the stuff about light vs dark and the way the dome seems to be all shadowy in an area.
However a lot of this wouldn’t make sense with stuff like how would a zebra be nocturnal if there isn’t a day night cycle SO:
Maybe the land is from a planet which was tidally locked and got pulled through the biangle. Maybe it’s just vaguely inspired by this cool ass phenomenon. OR the nocturnalness of the zebras refers to them migrating between the jungle and the dark side of the planet but being mainly active when on the dark side, which leads to their fully black coat being great camouflage in the darkness.
TLDR: I am recognizing a few similarities between Zood and planets which are tidally locked and reading much too far into it. Who knows what this means but I think it’s interesting.

Still thinking about Olethra “we’re the dream team” MacLeod watching Maxwell fuck up so bad by dropping names in public and make it out of the ensuing confrontation by the skin of his teeth only for her to immediately double down on the same method with the Eyeless Hand to the horror of their elders

I saw the words "wealwell" and something that looked like gear. And "punched in the head by gorilla". And thought the post was going to be a "blorbo from my show" kind of post commentary on media. Then I read the next person agreeing with you and was so confused till I saw they had tagged the post "Dimension 20" "Brennan Lee Mulligan" and it all made sense. I don't know what happens in Dimension 20 other than the funny clips on my YouTube shorts but I hope metal gear and Weedle are ok and that gorilla got eaten by a shark or something.
“metal gear and weedle” is far too funny to leave in my asks, thanks OP! weedle is a yogurt-addicted expecting father now and metal gear continues to be the coolest character in the show so they’re doing just fine

ok here’s my potentially controversial fan theory for this season: I think that one of the PCs is going to turn on the party by the end of the season.

i think the single most interesting piece of information (aside from the bonkers ending) about this week’s episode is that there’s an established technology that helps residents to translate the language of newcomers so quickly
that, paired with the way the city moves, has such interesting cultural significance for the people living in Zood.
