OC Questionnaire
Thank you for the tag @wyked-ao3
My Questions:
1. if you had to pick just one enemy who would it be? 2. when did you feel safest and why? 3. if you could save just one other person who would it be?
Your Questions:
Same
The main characters (+my personal favorite character) from Gates of Hell will be answering the questions today
1. if you had to pick just one enemy who would it be?
Zero: "General Whittaker. I know he's by all technicality my great great 10-times-over great nephew, but I'll relish the day I can rip his flesh from his muscles and his muscles from his bones. I hope he lives through it too, so that he can feel just a percent of the agony his saints-forsaken bloodline has caused me."
Vivienne: "I suppose whoever ordered the execution of my dad. There are a lot of monsters out there, but if we're all monsters, who am I to choose which is the worst?"
Five: "Fucking Hayden. That little shit killed Silvia. I hope he rots in hell for all eternity."
2. when did you feel safest and why?
Zero: "It's been a while, over 600 years. I felt safest when my greatest worry was what I was going to say at my wedding."
Vivienne: "I always felt safe when my dad was home, even though he'd come back covered in blood more often than not. I was just happy that he was there, regardless of the smell of iron."
Five: "I've never really felt totally safe. Not that I'm complaining, the unpredictability is what I run off of, but I can't really pinpoint a time where I've felt 100% totally safe. Sure, Silvia did teach me how to defend myself and all that, but even then she didn't stop the small fries from beating my ass if I left my guard down."
3. if you could save just one other person who would it be?
Zero: "Five. He's the only one who makes a consistent effort to talk to me. I think the other Archreapers find me odd or unsettling. Five may call me ancient, but he's still my closest and only acquaintance."
Vivienne: "Juliette. She'd choose me too. I'd hate to pick over Ayan or Ray, but Juliette is like a sister to me."
Five: "I'd let the world burn before I let Ada die. She's the last I have of my humanity, the last chance I have of a family. That child doesn't deserve to die."

Summer Court
The Family 6/8
spring | winter | main masterlist | worldbuilding masterlist
ACOTAR to me has always had so much potential but it was just ruined by it's execution. however, I am a grown woman (I'm 18) and I also have free time so I though, "Huh, why not do it myself?"
Hi.
This is a post on the Summer Court and its royal family.
The Summer Court is one of the Seasonal Courts in Prythian. In terms of the named leaders of courts, Summer is actually one we know the most of. We have Tarquin, the current High Lord, Cresseida and Varian, Nostrus, the previous High Lord, and Brutius.
Summer is one of the three courts, along with Winter and Day, to rebel against Amarantha. As a result, their High Lords were murdered, which at the time was Nostrus.
I chose Latin names for Summer cause there was an overwhelming majority. Tarquin was the name of two Roman kings, Nostrus and Brutius, which is some variation of Brutus, one of the senators that conspired and murdered the dictator, Julius Caesar. Cresseida is a variation of Cressida, which is most commonly associated with the Shakespeare play "Troilus and Cressida" (rip troilus he did not deserve his fate). Varian could be a version of the Latin name Varianus? It was actually quite difficult to find something on his name. From those three (or four) I chose Latin names for their families.
Nostrus, Brutius, Tarquin, Cresseida and Varian, are all cousins. Cresseida and Varian are brother and sister. Tarquin is the youngest of them all, however, he was mentioned in ACOMAF to have only just reached maturity and is around 80 years old. Cousins is quite a tricky thing to work with cause they could be first cousins or second cousins or first cousins once or twice removed.
I made life difficult for myself but easier for you by creating a family tree in paint.
The ones with colours are who I'm naming cause that's too much work otherwise and I've already done too much here. Essentially, There are three different branches of the family, all coming from three siblings. The first of these siblings is Tarquin's grandfather. The second is Nostrus' father and the third is Brutius and Cresseida and Varian's grandfather. The next generation is Tarquin's father, Nostrus, Brutius' father and Cresseida and Varian's mother. The third and final generation is Tarquin, the youngest, Brutius, Cresseida and Varian. In my limited knowledge, I am 90% sure that doing it like this makes them all cousins.
Working left to right, I'm starting with Tarquin's parents. His father, Faustus Juventius. Faustus is a first name and a cognem from ancient Rome and it means lucky. Juventius is a Roman family name that means "youth", from the Roman goddess of youth, Juventas.
I named Tarquin's mother, Andronike Juventius. Andronike, from what I could find is the feminine version of the cognomina Andronicus, which obviously has Greek origins, which would explain why Andronike isn't similar to other feminine versions of names.
I named Cresseida and Varian's father Vitus Silvius. Vitus means "lively". The Silvia gens were actually the ancient rulers of the city Alba Longa, which was mythologically founded by Ascanius, the son of Aeneas and the predator to Rome, however when Alba Longa was destroyed and the people moved to Rome, there was no mention of the Silvii family in the senate.
I called Cresseida and Varian's mother, Saturnina Silvius, Saturnina is a Virgin Saint, who fled from Germany to France to keep the vow of virginity she took. The man she was meant to marry chased her, found her and when he attempted to rape her, she resisted, and he decapitated her.
i went with using cognomina as first names and then nomina as surnames. i was originally gonna use praenomina but then remembered there was only like five and i didn't want every character to be called marcus or lucia so i left it.
but then finding the feminine forms of different cognomina was so hard that i almost gave up and just called them all lucia anyway. so if you're weirdly knowledgable of roman cognomina and the women don't make sense it's cause i got bored of trying to find an appropriate cognomina and just made it up using my basic knowledge.

SAINT OF THE DAY (September 3)
St. Gregory the Great, a central figure of the medieval western Church and one of the most admired Popes in history, is commemorated in the Ordinary Form of the Roman Catholic liturgy today, September 3.
Born near the middle of the sixth century into a noble Roman family, Gregory received a classical education in liberal arts and the law.
He also had strong religious formation from his devout family, particularly from his mother Silvia, also a canonized saint.
By the age of 30, Gregory had advanced to high political office in Rome, during what was nevertheless a period of marked decline for the city.
Some time after becoming the prefect of the former imperial capital, Gregory chose to leave the civil administration to become a monk during the rise of the Benedictine order.
In reality, however, the new monk's great career in public life was yet to come.
After three years of strict monastic life, he was called personally by the Pope to assume the office of a deacon in Rome.
From Rome, he was dispatched to Constantinople to seek aid from the emperor for Rome's civic troubles and to aid in resolving the Eastern church's theological controversies.
He returned to Rome in 586, after six years of service as the Papal representative to the eastern Church and empire.
Rome faced a series of disasters caused by flooding in 589, followed by the death of Pope Pelagius II the next year.
Gregory, then serving as abbot in a monastery, reluctantly accepted his election to replace him as the Bishop of Rome.
Despite this initial reluctance, however, Pope Gregory began working tirelessly to reform and solidify the Roman liturgy, the disciplines of the Church, the military and economic security of Rome, and the Church's spreading influence in western Europe.
As Pope, Gregory brought his political experience at Rome and Constantinople to bear in the task of preventing the Catholic Church from becoming subservient to any of the various groups struggling for control of the former imperial capital.
As the former abbot of a monastery, he strongly supported the Benedictine movement as a bedrock of the western Church.
He sent missionaries to England and is given much of the credit for the nation's conversion.
In undertaking these works, Pope Gregory saw himself as the “servant of the servants of God.”
He was the first of the Bishops of Rome to popularize the now-traditional Papal title, which referred to Christ's command that those in the highest position of leadership should be “the last of all and the servant of all.”
Even as he undertook to consolidate Papal power and shore up the crumbling Roman west, St. Gregory the Great maintained a humble sense of his mission as a servant and pastor of souls, from the time of his election until his death in 604.

hi dr fudge! Hope you're doing well! Sorry for the weird ask but do you have any favorite media that explore woc in unhealthy/twisted romantic relationships? I'm very fascinated with this but i rarely find a narrative that centres on women of color. Octavia Butler's books have been very helpful though because not only are they literary gems but the protagonists are always black women, so it's always fun to analyze the relationships from bipoc lens
i really need to get to octavia butler already
there's a real and frustrating scarcity of twisted/dark romance that features women of color. 90% of published romance with woc are wholesome quirky romcoms with cartoon covers. i'm tired.
i tend to find interesting and twisted content with woc protagonists in literary fiction more than traditional romance; so for instance luster by raven leilani could fit into this category. also, catherine house by elisabeth thomas which features a woc protagonist who is in many ways involved in an unhealthy romance not just with a boy but with a house and an institution and she's allowed to be super messy about it. i haven't yet read you made a fool of death with your beauty by akwaeke emezi, but i really want to, because apparently the woc protagonist gets involved with her boyfriend's dad? sign me up.
there's also stuff like the vegetarian by han kang which kind of irked me but which allows the protag to be really fucked up in her relationships. or you have writers like carmen maria machado and silvia moreno-garcia, both literary fiction darlings whose romantic plots i enjoy a lot more than those found in traditional romance.
a real treasure trove is short story anthologies from women of color. i've noticed that the short story is the real medium for delicious fucked-up dynamics, but check out danielle evans, zz packer, bora chung
i do want to mention a classic that again, isn't really romance, but will fuck you up nonetheless and that is corregidora by gayl jones. because wow, what a novel, and what a voice. so many fascinating and unhealthy romantic, queer, and familial dynamics in that one. in general, books from the 70s and 80s tend to be much bolder. i was really disappointed by the recent the other black girl which was trying to go for that 70s/80s avantgarde and just...fell so flat.
there's a lot of stuff out there to explore, but a lot of it may not be mainstream or as easily available as the media that focuses on white women. when you look, for instance, over lists of dark romance books....90% of them are about white women getting to experiment and be fucked up and messy. woc have to be respectable and "cute" on those clinical and sexless cartoon covers. ANYWAY. that's why many times i turn to our patron saint, fanfiction, which almost never lets me down.
addendum: i forgot about ONE OF MY FAVES: the idiot by elif batuman. goddd, the woc protagonist OWNS MY HEART FOREVER and she has such a terrible, fascinating time with a mysterious Russian guy in college.
#replies#book recs#recs#i can't get into film recs here because i have to think up a list....and i'd have problems with that too#but a lot of non-white cinema DOES allow women to be unhinged and messy

New Silvia sketch
Plus some hcs for extra content
- Once he’s financially secure(living in the Starlight Citadel with the King Saint and Kouji) Silv only wears dark mourning colors to honor his ‘lost’ family
- He’s been terrified of mirrors for years, but it only becomes apparent once he reaches the capital. Mirrors/reflections were easy to avoid while traveling the countryside, but are numerous in the Kings city
- Is vaguely scared of women despite looking and being mistaken for one(at least when he’s younger 14~16)

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT GREGORY THE GREAT (Pope St. Gregory I) The Architect of the Gregorian Chant Feast Day: September 3
"Blessed Gregory, raised upon the throne of Peter, sought always the beauty of the Lord and lived in celebration of that love." -Entrance Antiphon
One of the greatest Popes and one of the Latin Fathers was born Gregorius Anicius in Rome of a patrician family in 540 AD. His father, Gordianus, a patrician who served as a senator and for a time was the Prefect of the City of Rome, also held the position of Regionarius in the church, though nothing further is known about that position. Gregory's mother, Silvia, was well-born, and had a married sister, Pateria, in Sicily. His mother and two paternal aunts are honored by Catholic and Orthodox churches as saints. Gregory's great-great-grandfather had been Pope Felix III, the nominee of the Gothic king, Theodoric. Gregory's election to the throne of St. Peter made his family the most distinguished clerical dynasty of the period.
At 35, after five years of brilliant service as perfect, he gave up all his possessions and became a monk.
In the year 590, Gregory, at that time as a simple deacon, was elected Pope by popular acclamation to succeed Pope Pelagius II, when the latter died of the plague spreading through the city. Gregory was approved by an Imperial iussio from Constantinople the following September (as was the norm during the Byzantine Papacy). He tried to run away from the city, but was forcibly carried to the Basilica of St. Peter. where he was consecrated. Gregory now began a tireless apostolate that merited for him the title the 'Great'.
He is commonly credited with founding the medieval papacy and so many attribute the beginning of medieval spirituality to him, and is the only pope between the fifth and the eleventh centuries whose correspondence and writings have survived enough to form a comprehensive corpus. This includes: Magna Moralia (Commentary of Job), The Book of Pastoral Rule (Liber Regulae Pastoralis), the Dialogues (a collection of four books), and sermons (including the Homilae in Hiezechielem (Homilies on Ezekiel)).
Gregory was among those who identified Mary Magdalene with Mary of Bethany, whom, in the Holy Gospel of John (12:1-8), recounts as having anointed Jesus with precious ointment, an event that some interpret as being the same as the anointing of Jesus performed by a woman that Luke (alone among the synoptic Gospels) recounts as sinful.
He faced numerous challenges, including those posed by the Lombards, who sought to control Italy and practiced Arianism, and those posed by the Byzantines, who employed strategies that were designed to protect Ravenna, the administrative center of Byzantine government in Italy, at the expense of Rome. Indeed, both Lombards and Byzantines posed threats: the sedition of imperial soldiers was as troubling as the swords of the Lombards.
He used the proceeds of the collapse of the Roman Empire, he took over the task of protecting the people from the barbarians. He also introduced the so called 'Gregorian Chant' in the Liturgy and sent the first missionaries to evangelize in England.
Despite his prestige, Gregory called himself 'Servus Servorum Dei - Servant of the Servants of God' - a title still retained by his successors.
During a penitential procession, which the pope had called to stop a deadly pestilence, the archangel Michael appeared sheathing his sword on the top of Hadrian's Mausoleum (now Castel Sant' Angelo), signifying the end of God's punishment. In gratitude, a bronze angel was built on the mausoleum, depicting Michael replacing his sword in its scabbard. The Seven Penitential Psalms associated with this procession date from the 12th century and have been incorrectly ascribed to Gregory.
The tradition of the 'Thirty Gregorian Masses' is connected with Justus, one of Gregory's monks, who died without confessing that he had secretly three golden crowns. After offering 30 consecutive Masses for his eternal salvation, Justus appeared to one of the brothers, assuring him that he had been released from all torments.
Gregory felt that he was part of a Christian empire, a 'holy commonwealth' headed by the Byzantine emperor. Ideally, the emperor deferred to the church (though generally he did not), even as the church recognized him as a power ordained by God (for good or evil). Ambivalence dictated discretion: Gregory would execute obnoxious laws (such as Emperor Maurice's prohibition of monastic life for state employees) while simultaneously protesting such laws. He explained this practice in one of his letters: 'I have thus done my duty on both sides. I have obeyed the emperor, and yet have not restrained what ought to be said on God’s behalf.' He often protested Maurice's policies regarding the Lombards and the church, and his dislike of Maurice explains his warm welcome to Phocas, the bloody usurper of the imperial throne, in 602.
Gregory died in Rome on March 12, 604 AD at the age of 63 or 64, and was immediately canonized as a saint by popular acclamation. He was one of the two Popes in history who were titled 'The Great', and is proclaimed Doctor of the Church in 1298.

Greetings Professor Rubinov,
I hope this letter finds you well. Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ernie Shankle, and I work for Saint Joseph Mayberry’s home for youth. It has taken more time than I expected to uncover your whereabouts, so I apologize for the delay in notifying you for your sister’s passing. My sincerest condolences. Silvia Dunlapp passed in January of complications due to her illness. She was attending the sick and injured recruits at Fort Hartmon. Daniel is being called back from the warfront, however it will be several months yet before he will arrive home.
Silvia and Daniel had two children, now in my care. Your niece and nephew, Charlotte and Charles, both twelve years of age, have been staying at our orphanage for a fortnight now. Though they have been handling the change in stride, I firmly believe that they would do best to be with family during this time.
As the Rubinov’s have passed, and the Dunlapp’s are not capable of taking in two more children, I am reaching out to you. I understand that, though you are a bachelor, that you are well educated and have taught at the Ranport University in years passed. I ask, if you would, that you take in the children until Daniel arrives home. I wrote to his commanding officer myself; I was assured that it would only be a few months. October at the latest.
I was a friends of Daniel’s, and of Silvia. Your sister spoke fondly of you. And often. I understand that I am asking for more that you may be prepared to give, especially considering your own grief. Silvia mentioned that you had stopped teaching some years ago, and that you had opened a curio shop of sorts on the docks. Not the ideal home for two young children, I know, however it would be a much better location than a boarding house.
Do not fret over travel expenses and arrangements. Everything will be taken care of by a portion of the Dunlapp’s estate and my own contributions. You will owe nothing. Please send your response via telegram or telephone. My office number is 158-32376, or the operator an pass you though to our central office. I tried calling you from the number the university gave me, however, it seems Angleshire has not converted to direct dial. The operator was confused when I mentioned your name.
I eagerly await your response.
Yours, Ernie Shankle

‘Pope of Turtle Bay’ blesses NYC neighborhood — but some say his bell’s too loud
(Original Article; pictures also taken from the article.) Bolded emphases added.
A bearded disciple with a bell and a cross marches around Manhattan’s East Side every Sunday morning, ringing his toll and blessing the neighborhood. While locals have no issue with the man spreading the good word, some say he does it so loudly it could wake the dead. “For most people, you’re out on the weekend, you’re working the whole week, you want to rest on Sunday,” said Silvia Gerber, a Turtle Bay resident of two decades. “You don’t want to be awakened by this bell.” She said she first started hearing the bell ringer two years ago. “I can hear it from blocks away,” Irene O’Halloran told The Post. She said the bell is obnoxious and stands out from the rest of the city’s noise - constant emergency sirens, car horns and roaring bus engines. “It’s not a pretty church bell. It’s a nuisance noise, and he just keeps going,” she said. “There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. People who say, ‘You live in a city, it’s always loud,’ don’t realize how annoying this bell is.” The Pope of Turtle Bay, who only identified himself only as Nickolai, parked his blue Honda Civic on East 47th Street at 8 a.m. one Sunday this month before donning his signature chime and crucifix. For the next 20 minutes, he paraded around the neighborhood, stopping to bless Holy Family Catholic Church on East 47th Street, the Church of the Covenant on East 42nd Street, the United Nations building, and to give money to a homeless man who goes by the name of “Knife.” “For me, the bell is whatever. It’s not something to get worked up over,” Knife said. “Very much evil in this world,” Nickolai told The Post before driving off in his car, which was loaded with religious iconography, including crosses, bibles and pictures of saints. Others insist Nickolai is harmless and only adds to the colorful tapestry of NYC characters. “One way New York has changed for the worse in recent years has been in the decline, the dearth of quite harmless eccentricity,” Turtle Bay resident Alan Rau posted on Nextdoor in response to Gerber’s complaints. “This is what adds to the fabric of the city. Not everyone can be as ‘normal’ (i.e., non ‘creepy’) as you - something for which we should thank God.” One artist captured Nickolai bearing his cross and made an NFT out of it, which runs for about $450 worth of cryptocurrency. “This type of character intrigues me a lot,” Colombian photographer Julian López said in a text. “He made me wonder a lot of things about him: Who is this guy? What did he want to communicate by carrying that cross? How often does he do it? I was impressed by the decisive way in which he walked. I followed him for almost 15 blocks and nothing made him stop, not even a red light.”

So, the 2000s was one of the most productive decades for brazilian movies, an era known as Retomada (Retaking), because after the crisis caused by corrupt administration of President Collor cutting financing to movie productions in the 90s, the 2000s felt like the national movie industry was getting back on its feet.
Most of the movies of this era were in contemporary settings, usually varying between dramas, dramedies, comedies, slice of life, social satire or a mix of all this.
Their heroes tended to be normal people, the common everyday man, and while most of them choose the realist aproach, here and there you would get some pieces leaning on the fantastical.
These are the ones i most fondly remember watching and enjoying with my family.
Meu Tio Matou Um Cara (My Uncle Killed A Guy, 2004)
A boy tries to help his uncle prove his innocence in a murder case. He thinks his uncle has confessed the crime as a cover-up for his girlfriend, who was the dead man's wife, so he starts a private investigation with help from his own friends, including the girl he has a crush on.
Saneamento Básico: O Filme (Basic Sanitation: The Movie, 2007)
A small community of descendants of Italian immigrants in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul resorts to making a video to win the money award of a short film competition and try to solve the problems of basic sanitation that plague their village.
Was kind of video they make?
A B Monster Movie!
O Homem que Copiava (The Man Who Copied, 2003)
André, relatively poor, falls in love with Silvia, a neighbor he spies on with a telescope. Falling more and more in love with her, he begins to follow her around the city and realizes she works in a clothing shop. He works in a Xerox place and makes a copy of a brand new $50-bill to buy a dress from her store. This becomes a vice and he begins to photocopy more and more money, until it gets out of control. Things go wrong when he decides that photocopying is not the only way to make money.
Lisbela e o Prisioneiro (Lisbela and the Prisoner, 2003)
Lisbela is a young woman who loves going to the movies. Leléu is a con man who travels from town to town selling all sorts of things and performing as Master of Ceremonies for some cheesy numbers, such as the woman who gets transformed into a gorilla. He gets involved with Inaura, a sexy, beautiful woman who happens to be the wife of the most frightening hitman in the area. The hitman find out about his wife's affair and pursues Leléu, who must leave in a hurry. In another town, he meets and falls instantly in love with Lisbela, who is engaged to Douglas, a hillbilly who tries hard to pass for a cosmopolitan Rio de Janeiro dweller.
O Caminho das Nuvens (The Middle of the Word, 2003)
Romão, illiterate and unemployed, feels destiny drawing him on an odyssey to Rio de Janeiro in pursuit of a job and a decent life. A family of seven journeys 2,000 miles across the hinterlands of Brazil on bicycles. Along the way, the story explores the inner dynamics of a family facing a great challenge with the courage to pursue dreams.
Narradores de Jave (The Storytellers, 2003)
The illiterate population of the small town of Javé charge Antônio Biá with the mission of writing the story of the town, in an attempt to stop the construction of a hydropower dam that would destroy the village. They start remembering (or making up) great local personalities and events.
Deus é Brazileiro (God is Brazilian, 2003)
God decides to take a vacation - but, first, He has to find a saint who can rule the universe while He's away. For that, He goes to Brazil's northeast, where He believes there's a very good man for the job - but, during His mission, He becomes friend of a very smart young man, Taoca.

Tapete Vermelho (Red Carpet, 2005)
Quinzinho (Matheus Nachtergaele) has a promise to keep to his late father: take his child, Neco (Vinicius Miranda), to the city to watch a movie starring Mazzaropi (a comedic actor famous for starring and producing movies where the typical brazilian southeast hillbilly, known here as "caipira", was the protagonist) in theaters. They live in a small farm in São Paulo. In this odyssey by the cities of São Paulo, he also leads his wife Zulmira (Gorete Miracles), which part unwillingly, and the donkey Policarpo. On the journey, they find regional peculiarities and undergo magical situations, related to popular belief.
O Coronel e O Lobisomem (The Colonel and the Werewolf, 2005)
In the beginning of the Twentieth Century, Coronel Ponciano de Azeredo Furtado inherits the farm Sobradinho in the country, many possessions and the title of "colonel" of his grandfather. Ponciano has a crush on his cuisine Esmeraldina, but he never declares his love to her. When he loses the mortgage of his farm to Nogueira, who got married to Esmeraldina, Ponciano goes to the court trying to prove that Nogueira is a werewolf.

Since you and your roommate have the same name, here are some name related questions:
Are you named after someone?
Do you like your name?
Do you prefer traditional or modern names?
What's the most unusual Spanish name you know?
Bonus: in each skam remake what's your favourite name a character has?
Mucha suerte por tu operación
Aaah what a cool set of questions anon!!!
Yes! I am named after the doctor who saved my grandmother's life! I actually know him, he's a family friend now and he's pretty chill, I like him
I really like it! It's one of my favourite male names for sure
I like a bit of both??? Like I don't like those weirdass long ugly names that mean literal words, but I like when people name their kids the abbreviated versions of them (like Lola instead of Dolores, Mila instead of Milagros, Dora instead of Adoración, and so on). Also regional names are always a big yes for me, I absolutely adore how half of the women in my father's hometown are called Salu and whatnot. On the other hand, I'm all for linguistic innovation and I find it so creative when parents make up names for their kid or use as a name something I didn't even think of being able to be a name. As a little sidenote here at the end, I had a teacher at school who had a name made up by his parents on the spot, and it was so cool it actually looked like a regular name.
Oooh this one is a good one!! See, in Spain they have this tradition of naming people after the patron saint of the town / city they hail from. Some are pretty normal Pilar (Zaragoza), Montserrat and Jordi (Barcelona), Joan (Alicante), Paloma, Almudena, and Isidro (Madrid) etc but then you have some bizarre ones. I have told you about Salu, which is a short form of Salud (Health) and where my mother's side of the family is from tons of women are called Llanos (Plains) to name a few example. The weirdest one I've heard of, tho, comes from my father's side of the family. Near to where my paternal grandparents come from there's this sanctuary to the Virgen del Saliente (Our Lady of the Slope (?)) so there's -i kid you not- women in Spain called María del Saliente, or Sali for short 💀
This one's so fun omg. Let's see; Og: Evan & Sana, France: Daphne, Druck: Fatou & Kieu My, Skam España: Hugo, Skam NL: Engel, Skam Austin: Shay, Skam Italia: Silvia, WTFock: Zoë & Senne

He also had strong religious formation from his devout family, particularly from his mother, Silvia, also a canonized saint.
By around age 30, Gregory had advanced to high political office in Rome, during what was nevertheless a period of marked decline for the city.
He sent missionaries to England and was given much of the credit for the nation's conversion.
