Marvel Reborn
I love the Marvel Universe. It was my first time experiencing a shared superhero universe. However, it is not without its flaws. But recently, one of my favorite reviewers Linkara spent a month reviewing four different event comics; Flashpoint, The Infinity Gauntlet, Secret Wars (the original one), and Crisis on Infinite Earths. What stuck out in my mind was the similar scopes between COIE and the 2015 version of Secret Wars. In real life, the history of the Marvel Universe continued with just the universe itself being reborn. But what if that wasn’t it? What if Secret Wars not only changed the Marvel Universe physically but regarding history as well? Now whenever a company does a reboot, there’s the fear that all of the history they know and love will be gone and what comes after will a poorly-handled and confusion mess *cough* New 52 *cough*. But what Marvel not only decided to reboot their universe, but had an exact plan on how they would rewrite their history. Or more specifically, how I would rewrite the history of the Marvel Universe. And what better place to begin than the timeline of “MARVEL REBORN!!!” The Beginning of All That Is - In the the beginning, there was only one universe. This was the First Firmament. The Firmament was perfect, but it was alone. To alleviate its loneliness, it created life. These were Celestial beings. Uniformed servants that worshiped the Firmament, earning them the name Aspirants. However, there were those that went against the Firmament. Multi-colored beings that wanted their own creations to grow and evolve. These are the Celestials we know of. This divide caused a war that split the Firmament’s essence. In fear of losing its uniqueness, the First look its remain Aspirants to the furthest edges of being. And behind it, the fragments became the first multiverse. The rebel Celestials colonized this new multiverse, creating life that evolved, lived and died. In anger, the First Firmament attempted to destroy the Celestials, but each time the conflict would end with the destruction and rebirth of the multiverse. Eons Ago - Galactus, the last survivor of the previous universe, is reborn as the Devourer of Worlds The Kree and Skrull begin their Eternal War. Later in life, Norrin Radd becomes the Silver Surfer, Herald of Galactus Primordial Times - A race of Cosmic Beings called the Celestials implant a genome in the primordial ooze that would create powers in certain humans. This would later be identified as the X-Gene. 50,000 BC - The Kree’s experiments on ancient humanity end up creating the Inhumans. 47, 000 BC - The race known as the Asgardians first arrive on Earth and are heralded as Gods. 3, 400 BC - The first mutant in history manifests in En Sabah Nur. The Brotherhood of the Shield is formed. 2, 500 BC - The war between the Spaceknights and the Dire Wraiths begin. The 1840s - James Howlett (who would later be known as Logan) manifest mutant powers that make him virtually immortal. The 1930s - Herbert Edgar Wyndham begins the path that would lead him to become the High Evolutionary. 1935 - 1957 AD - With the first Human Torch and Captain America making their debut, the First Age of Heroism begins. Soon enough, more heroes would begin their careers, eventually forming teams such as the Invaders, Jack Fury’s Howling Commandos, and the SSR. In a Nazi Concentration Camp, a boy named Erik Lehnsherr manifests his mutant ability. He is kept unconscious by the scientists at the camp until the prison is raided by the Howling Commandos. At the end of the war, Captain America would be believed to be dead. Later, the Agents of Atlas would have a short-lived career. James Howlett is abducted by Project X. The Project bonds his skeleton with the rare metal Adamantium and erases his memories. In a feral rage, Logan murders all of the Project X staff and wanders the Canadian Wilderness with no memories of his past life. The 1960s to 1970s - Dr. Adam Brashear becomes the hero Blue Marvel. Later, he is forced to fake his death after a battle reveals his skin color. Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr meet for the first time. Twenty Years Ago - The crew of the Icarus One (Dr. Reed Richards, his fiancee Susan Storm, pilot Benjamin Grimm and prodigy engineer Johnny Storm) are exposed to a storm of cosmic radiation. When the four return to Earth, they discover that the cosmic rays granted them superpowers. Heroic Age (Year 1) - After the debut of the Fantastic Four, other heroes and teams such as the Amazing Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, and the Uncanny X-Men being their careers. Heroic Age (Year 2) - In an effort to kill his brother, Loki accidentally brings together the founding members of the Avengers (Hank Pym, Wasp, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk). Later that year, Reed Richards and Sue Storm are married. Heroic Age (Year 4) - The Heroes of Earth encounter Galactus for the first time. During a journey to Canada, the Hulk and Wolverine clash. Heroic Age (Year 5) - Gwen Stacy is murdered by Spider-Man’s foe, the Green Goblin. The fight that follows ends with the Green Goblin impaled by his own glider. Later that year, Spider-Man encounters the Jackal, who created a clone of the web-slinger. In the resulting battle, the clone appears to have died. Franklin Richards is born. Heroic Age (Year 6) - The Dark Phoenix Saga occurs, resulting in the deaths of Jean Grey and Charles Xavier. With the death of his old friend, Magneto decides to reform and becomes a teacher at the School for Gifted Youngsters. Heroic Age (Year 7) - A powerful being called the Beyonder teleports various heroes and villains to Battleworld. During this series of events, Spider-Man comes into contact with a symbiotic being called a Klyntar. Meanwhile, the Spaceknight Rom begins his war with the Dire Wraiths on Earth. Heroic Age (Year 8) - After separating from the Venom Klyntar, Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson get married. The Eternal, Thanos, gains control of the Infinity Gauntlet, temporarily becoming a god. However, Adam Warlock and the heroes of Earth join forces and separate Thanos from the gauntlet seemingly destroy the gems. In secret, Adam Warlock selects five other individuals (Rom the Spaceknight, Thor, Black Panther, and Nova-Prime Irani Rael) to safeguard the Infinity Gems so that no single being can wield the Infinity Gauntlet again. Heroic Age (Years 9 to 10) - Peter Parker encounters Ben Reilly. They come to the realization that Ben is the original Spider-Man and Peter is the clone created by the Jackal. After a long series of events, Ben takes on the mantle of Spider-Man while Peter, MJ, and their newly born daughter, Anna-May, retire to Boston. Heroic Age (Year 11) - When the Avengers and Fantastic Four are seemingly killed in a massive battle with the psychic deity Onslaught, a new group called the Thunderbolts appears to take their place. Later that year, the Avengers and FF return, exposing the Thunderbolts as the Masters of Evil. Heroic Age (Year 13) - The time-traveling despot Kang successfully takes over the world. However, the Avengers rally together and topple the Conqueror's regime. Heroic Age (Year 14) - The Hulk is shot into space as part a plan set forth from new SHIELD director Maria Hill. Thor and the rest of the Asgardian Pantheon are seemingly destroyed in Ragnarok. Heroic Age (Year 15) - After Stamford, Connecticut is destroyed in a battle between the New Warriors and the super villain, Nitro, Congress quickly passes the Superhuman Registration Act, which would force all superhumans to register with the government or be considered a criminal. After a divide in the superhero community, Tony Stark is shot through his spine while defending Captain America from a SHIELD Cape-Killer. Out in space, the Annihilation Wave threatens to eradicate all of colonized space, only to be stopped by a team of space-faring heroes. After another grand war involving Ultron, several space heroes unite to form the Guardians of the Galaxy. Heroic Age (Year 16) - The Hulk returns to Earth, having believed that his former friends had shot him into space and destroyed his kingdom. He launches an attack on Earth, only to be stopped by the Blue Marvel. Bruce Banner is placed in solitary confinement. After years of planning, the shape-shifting Skrulls launch their attack. However, the world is saved by the timely return of Thor and the Asgardians. Reed Richards founds the Future Foundation. James Rhodes, former superhero War Machine, and former Iron Man, is elected as President of the United States. Heroic Age (Year 18) - The Avengers are called to protect the universe (alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy, The Fantastic Four, and the Spaceknights) from a race called the Builders. But as the heroes leave, the alien despot Thanos begins an invasion Earth to locate his half-Inhuman son, Thane. During a battle with the Inhuman King Black Bolt, they accidentally unleash a massive cloud of terrigen mist into Earth’s atmosphere, causing a new generation of Inhumans to spawn, including Kamala Khan (who would begin her career as the new Ms. Marvel later this year). Heroic Age (Year 19) - Roberto DeCosta (the former hero Sunspot) buys AIM, hoping to turn it into a force for good during his tenure as an Avenger. During a battle with the villain Iron Nail, Steve Rogers is turned into an old man. Realizing that he can only can on as Captain America, he hands the mantle over his long-time partner, Sam Wilson. After years of alien invasions, two new organizations are formed near the end of the year; The Ultimates and the new Alpha Flight defense program. Heroic Age (Year 20) - Current Day And that’s all for now, my friends. Stay tuned to the coming days as I reveal more about the new Marvel Universe and how it’s been reborn. As a great man once said, “Excelsior, True Believers!"
