Day 34 - Sorry charlie
Once again, major apologies for the massive delay in posts but Uni has been so fucking busy as of late you have no idea. Anyway, here we are back at the Pod with the next song predicting the gruesome twosome, sorry charlie. The song takes a slightly different to a lot of the songs on the Pod so far by having a very clean guitar part with what has become the album standard fuzzed out vocals. A slow moving song that acts as a nice break in the album after 2 fairly heavy hitters, Sorry charlie adds a nice immediate level of variation to what will eventially become a twisted nightmare of an album. It’s good to be back anyway, and hopefully tomorrow I will go back to last week in terms of posting frequency.

Day 30 - Godweensatan
I’ve decided that the best way to end an album on the daily boognish would be to rank the album as a whole the same way I would any other song. In that regard, I have to say that GWS is probably one of my least favourite Ween albums but only due to the fact that it favours the genre parody style of songwriting for the most part as opposed to later albums which took on a much more serious tone. But that’s not what GWS is about, GWS is about creating a chaotic and unrestrained beast of an album that takes no prisoners, and that is exactly what it does. I also want to make a list of my top 5 tracks on each album, not in any particular order just as a way for me to understand what style of Ween I appreciate the most. With that in mind, my top 5 for this album are:
1. Birthday boy
2.Bumblebee part’s 1 and 2
3.Don’t laugh I love you
4.Up on the hill
5.Papa Zit
Overall - A solid album that set the groundwork for Ween’s later albums, but unfortunately doesn’t quite reach me in the same way. 65/100

Day 27 - Squelch the Weasel
This probably isn’t going to be super long so figured I’d use today’s slot to to explain that yeah, now I’m back at uni it’s more likely going to be every other day that I do this but nothing’s really certain as of yet. On the song itself, Squelch the Weasel is a pretty restrained folk styled song that definitely stands in line with the other genre parodies on the album, albeit taking a much more inspired approach. Whilst I’m not a huge fan of the song itself as I’m not a massive folk guy, I can appreciate the sonic attributes such as Gener’s great vocals and the killer guitar part towards the end of the track. I feel like maybe the song would feel possibly more fitting towards the start of the album given how much it seems to halt the flow but who am I to imply what the brothers Ween wanted to do.

Day 26 - Blackjack
Towards the end of this album it becomes very clear that Ween are starting to transition to their fuzzed out, warped style that they would take up on the pod, Blackjack being one of the more obvious examples of this. Starting with a simple drum machine beat that drags it’s way through the whole song, it isn’t long before it’s joined by some incredibly strange lyrics from Gener and a downright warped bass line that goes hand in hand with the fucked up style of the song. One of the first true “brown” songs in Ween’s discography, Blackjack is somewhat of an oddity on GWS that manages to carve out a spot for itself among the better tracks on the album.

Day 23 - Hippy Smell
Once again, Hippy smell was another addition to the special edition of GWS and personally, I think it was worth adding. It adds some nice acoustic guitar to the album and overall has a completely different vibe to the rest of the songs. I think it’s a nice precursor to something like Chocolate and Cheese in the songwriting and style which is something the album does so well, perfectly showing the routes to the later additions to Ween’s discography. The middle section loses me a little as it loses the 2 layers of guitars playing with eachother which is the main reason I like song, although it’s at least cohesive with the rest of the track. It’s a nice sounding track that add’s a niec layer of variety and ends on a super Ween-esque “solo”.

Day 22 - Papa Zit
I missed a night cause I was a little drunk but looking back that may have helped when talking about this song. Papa zit is another fast paced, high energy songs from godweensatan but is easily one of my favourites on the whole album. It’s mostly helped by the simply outstanding guitar work from deaner on both the main riff and the solo/bridge section. It also has the distinction of being the first song on the album that I ever REALLY listened to, as in kept going back to it before I’d really started listening to the album. It’s another really nice time capsule of the album if you will, containing all of the typical elements of the album in one song. Whilst I may prefer some of the less GWS songs from the album, this is the best truly GWS styled song to me.
