What were your favorite Louis outfits in 2024? or your favorite piece of clothing
1. Might be a little boring of me but I adore the Burberry suit. It’s so beautifully tailored on Louis, especially the shoulder fit and the arm length, the regimental British school tie, the perfect pants waist. The tattoos peeking out of the suit are so hot?
2. Not so much this MM6 Maison Margiela wool vest on its own, but the way Louis wears it so that it crosses from couture to something punk and subversive. Rock n roll without kitsch. Apparently Louis liked it too.
3. Santiago has the distinction of giving Louis iconic fan projects for every concert, and Louis has given Chile one of his indelible tour looks, the Wales Bonner Power Jacquard-Knit Track Jacket. The close-cut jacket was paired with slim-fitting pants, and every shot, whether close or far away, is incredibly vivid.
4. Louis had so many good looks during the South America promo and Latam leg of tour. Clean, sweet, elegant. Somehow the simplicity of baseball cap + white tank works on him. Givenchy tank top, Ray-Ban sunglasses, Adidas hat.
5. The devil is in the details. Louis arriving to the Sydney airport in a £3,500 casual outfit is the definition of quiet lux. Stone Island cap, Dior sunglasses, 1017 Alyx 9XM T-shirt, Balenciaga pants and shoes (x).
6. Louis dressing for the occasion is always very fun for me. Tennis whites at the Australian open (Balmain Polo, Garrett Leigh Wilson M sunglasses), and slutty for Formula 1 Monza GP (Axel Arigato vest, Ray Ban sunglasses, Casablanca silk shorts). Bonus extra slutty for the after party (Sex Pistols vintage tank).
7. Louis’ selfies make me feel some kind of way, and this one of him bundled up in a huge hoodie (Vetements Kiss Titanic split logo hoodie) in the middle of the killer Los Angeles desert summer takes me out. Very “Blue like the light surrounding me/ It all seems so different when I'm around it.”
8. So many iconic tour outfits. Shoutout to the Martine Rose baseball cap at the Victorious Festival, the Curitiba gender goals outfit (Adidas Y-3), the Lollapaloooza Amiri silk shorts, our favorite travel hoodie (1017 Alyx 9SM), this beauty from Phoebe (Burberry hat, Vetements hoodie), and bless the English football team (Umbro shorts).

The Dragon Boat Festival or Duan Wu Jie (端午节), is also known as Duan Yang Jie (端阳节), which means “Upright Sun” or “Double Fifth” (重午/重五). Falling on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month around the summer solstice which happened to be 10th June 2024 this year. The festival is also commonly referred to as the Fifth Month Festival amongst the Chinese. Its origins can be traced to southern China, and festivities include boat races and eating rice dumplings. The festival had evolved from the practice of revering the river dragon, to the commemoration of Qu Yuan (屈原), a third-century poet and political figure of the state of Chu in ancient China.
Legends and Myths - River Dragon (蛟龙)
The dragon was initially viewed as the benevolent spirit of the waters. It exemplified the masculine principle or yang in the Chinese ideology of harmony. Among common folk, it was believed that the River Dragon (蛟龙) controlled the rain and was thus worshipped during the summer solstice. Requests would be made for a balanced rainfall – sufficient to ensure a good harvest, without over-abundance that would cause destructive flooding.
Legends and Myths - Qu Yuan (屈原)
Primitive worship of the river dragon was often practised during the summer solstice. The Dragon Boat Festival was associated with Qu Yuan’s story only in the second century. Qu Yuan (屈原) was a poet and a statesman for the Chu kingdom (楚国) during the Warring States Period (战国时代). He served in high office and he advocated a policy of aligning with other kingdoms against the dominant Qin. However, political intrigue led Lord Huai to banish Qu Yuan instead. The ministry was left in the hands of corrupt statesmen and Qu Yuan helplessly watched his motherland decline. Depressed, he penned beautiful, patriotic poetry such as Li Sao (离骚) which means Encountering Sorrow, an allegorical poem stating his political aspirations and Jiu Ge (九歌) or Nine Songs, which gained Qu Yuan great renown.
youtube
With his top adviser gone, the king fell for the trickery of the Qin and his kingdom was eventually conquered. Upon hearing that his kingdom’s capital had been overtaken by the Qin, Qu Yuan committed suicide by drowning himself in the Mi Luo River (汨罗江). As he was adored by people everywhere, the local people did everything in their power to try to either save Qu Yuan, or at the very least, to protect him in the afterlife.
Hereupon the legend varies. Some suggest that fishermen at the scene attempted to save their minister. Having failed, they sought to appease his spirit by throwing rice stuffed in bamboo stems into the river to prevent the fish from eating Qu Yuan’s body. Others say that the rice offerings were snatched by a river dragon and the rice had to be bundled in chinaberry leaves instead and tied with five different coloured silk threads in order to be effective. The triangular Rice Dumplings (粽子) thus became entwined with the festivities. Another version tells of farmers rowing out in dragon boats in their attempt to save Qu Yuan. Hence, Dragon Boat Racing (赛龙舟) has been held annually on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, in honour of the memory of Qu Yuan.
Or if reading through a wall of texts is not your cup of tea, here is a pictorial guide to summarize on the history of Qu Yuan (屈原) and how we ended up celebrating Dragon Boat Festival (端午节) with dragon boat racing and rice dumplings on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.

Life Day (2024)
Fynta frowned into the dregs of her drink while festive music failed to lift her spirits. She should be sitting in rage-inducing traffic on Nar Shaddaa, not watching Imperial soldiers bully merchants for information they didn’t have.
A shadow loomed over Fynta’s table. A shadow that Fynta ignored. “You should be aiding in the search, Hunter.” The smooth, pompous voice slid over Fynta’s senses like silk. She recognized the pressure of the Force and discarded it with a wide grin at the Sith.
”You paying?” Fynta would rather avoid a manhunt, especially one looking for her. When she made it back to base, she’d need to figure out how or who tipped off the space station’s security. It couldn’t be a coincidence that the station had gone on lock down within an hour of her arrival, or that they were looking for a Republic spy. Besides, she was stewing in her own self pity and didn’t have the energy to play games with Sith.
He was a young Sith with a slight build, probably human once. Cybernetic enhancements blocked much of his face, but there was no denying the red eyes of the truly corrupt. The Sith drew back his shoulders. “As a citizen of the Empire, it is your duty to aid the Sith in all matters.”
”Good thing I’m not an Imperial citizen,” Fynta answered. She slapped a hand onto the unmistakable helm resting on the table. “I answer to the Mand’alor, and lately, he answers to credits. Without that, I’m on vacation.”
It was a gamble. Though Fynta had received training to protect her mind, not much could stop an angry Sith from crushing her throat. Only that T-shaped visor stood between her and death. The Sith didn’t know that Fynta didn’t belong to a clan or that no one would reign down hell should she miss a check in. She would be mourned, maybe even missed, but not much else.
With a sneer, the young Sith waved forward two of his guards. “This one doesn’t leave your sight.” Fynta lifted her still empty cup to the Sith’s retreating back while the soldiers took seats at the adjacent table. Fynta ordered them drinks since they were stuck babysitting her. Neither touched them, but at least she tried.
Fynta ignored the soldiers and their faceless glares. She was halfway through an article about the upcoming advancements to her favorite blaster model when another shadow invaded her space. Fynta huffed a sigh and prepared to give whichever soldier had grown a pair a piece of her mind when her comment sputtered. A grizzled Nautolan stood above her wearing a grin wide enough to display her sharp, yellow teeth.
“Gift from the hulking mass at the bar.” Black eyes glittered with amusement as she set a thimble of dark liquid on the table. Fynta lifted a brow at the Mandalorian specialty, earning a wink from the old bar wench as she trundled off with a swagger that her bowed back had yet to steal.
Fynta sniffed at the overtly sweet Tihaar. It was a fifty-fifty shot that someone had paid the old woman to spike it, but she was beyond caring. She’d been looking forward to this Life Day. A torturously jolly round of sweets, light shows, and festivities with her favorite person. Caldus had the week off and had laid out enough holiday holos to ensure Fynta got many, long naps. Instead, she was stuck on an Imperial space station, avoiding a man hunt and pissing off Sith. At least one of those things brought her cheer.
Motion drew Fynta’s attention as a form slid into the booth across from her. “For fuck’s sake,” she muttered into the Tihaar, intentionally ignoring her likely suitor. That seemed to be the theme of the day, not that it had worked out so far.
“Do you have any idea how hard it is to get the attention of a pretty woman these days?” He hadn’t made it halfway through his grumble before Fynta’s gaze snapped up to the tusks curling away from a familiar faceplate. She didn’t need to see his face to know that he was grinning.
”How?” It was the only question that mattered, given that his affiliation with the Republic military was more public than hers.
Caldus leaned an arm across the back of his booth with a reverberated laugh. “You’re not the only one good at your job.” He nodded to the soldiers, who seemed to take it at face value that two Mandalorian would meet in a bar with or without their interference.
“I know but…” Fynta let the question die. It was too close to personal information spoken allowed in enemy territory. She shouldn’t be surprised. Caldus had been their tracker back when they’d hunted together. Every target they’d brought in was because of him. Still, Fynta had never had his skillset turned on her. And the speed at which he’d found her was almost insulting.
Caldus leaned his elbows on the table, and Fynta met him in the middle so that when he spoke, the words were only for her. “I’ll always find you, cyare.”
A strange tightness constricted Fynta’s chest even as she laughed. Leaning back, she gestured at Caldus’s helmet. “I didn’t think they were letting anyone in.”
The server droid chirped, igniting a menu display for their convenience. Caldus made a few selections while Fynta watched him, still not entirely sure this wasn’t a fever dream brought on by bad Tihaar. When he was done, Caldus sighed. “They’re letting ships land, but no one is allowed to leave.” He removed his helm, wiggling those bushy brows at Fynta. “They thought I was an ugly Gamorrean.”
Fynta barked a laugh, ignoring the way the two soldiers shadowing her glanced up. She kept her attention on Caldus, refusing to let their moment be ruined. “I think you’re beautiful.” Caldus answered with a grin wide enough to show off his tusks and the blunt teeth behind them.
Food and more drinks came and went while Fynta and Caldus carefully danced around topics they didn’t speak about. There were updates from Verin, who had kept in touch with both of them as best as he could. Redacted stories from missions and everyday life. Finally, Caldus leaned back and patted the armour over his stomach. He watched Fynta scrape the rest of her dessert from the plate, then turned to the soldiers. “My girl and I are going to enjoy the sights.”
Neither soldier objected as Caldus stood to full height, taking up the space between their tables. He palmed his helm and slid it into place, then offered a hand to Fynta. She accepted, pulling her helmet on as well.
Once sequestered in the privacy of her small sanctuary, Fynta opened a line to Caldus. “Where are we going?” The soldiers waited until they had reached the door before following.
“To the theater,” Caldus answered with that damned grin. “You didn’t think that you were getting out of the holo-athon, did you?”
Fynta groaned because it was expected, letting Caldus pull her under his arm when she feigned an escape. In truth, there was nowhere else she’d rather be.
Happy Holidays all!!!

merry christmas for two
you're determined to give Tsubaki the best romantic Christmas dinner for two, even if it's not with you.
⁺₊ ❆ ANGSTMAS 2024 ENTRY ❆ ₊⁺ pairing tsubakino tasuku x reader word count 1k words tags aged up, in their early 20s, he/him used for tsubaki-chan (adhering to official english translations), angst, hurt, implied umetsuba navigation
The holiday season has always been your favorite time of year. There was something magical about the way the world seemed to slow down under the weight of snow, with festive lights glowing like tiny stars against the dark.
Families reunited, friends gathered, and lovers found time for each other. It was warmth in the cold, love in its many forms – lingering in the air. It felt right. Romantic.
Better than Valentine’s Day, you often thought.
This year, Makochi was no different. Snow blanketed the streets, muffling the usual bustle. It felt like stepping into a postcard, and it was in this dreamy setting that you’d decided to take the biggest leap of your life. This Christmas, you were going to confess to your crush.
Tsubakino Tasuku.
You had met Tsubaki at Roppō Ichiza through Shizuka. Fridays after work often meant drinks at the izakaya with colleagues, and Shizuka’s angelic singing quickly became a highlight of your nights. Over time, you and Shizuka grew close, sharing secrets and stories. Eventually, she introduced you to Tsubaki, the fiery leader of Jikoku Unit from Bofurin.
At first, Tsubaki was intimidating. There was a fierceness in his eyes, a sharpness to his aura that made you hesitate. But as the nights passed, you saw another side of him. He was cheerful, kind, and effortlessly charismatic. His laugh was infectious, his presence magnetic. Before long, you found yourself drawn to him in ways you couldn’t explain.
You weren’t sure exactly when it started, but you remembered the moment something shifted.
That day, Tsubaki had picked out a red silk dress for you with Shizuka and Kotoha. You’d stepped into the fitting room and called for help with the zipper, expecting one of the girls. Instead, Tsubaki stepped in, a playful grin on his lips.
“Need me, princess?” he teased, his voice low and velvety.
You tried to laugh it off, but the proximity was overwhelming. His fingers brushed your back as he zipped up the dress, his touch lingering just a second too long. When he rested his hands on your shoulders, looking at you through the mirror, it felt like time stopped.
“Well, aren’t you a head-turner?” he said with a wink. “Boys and girls will be lining up for you.”
You glanced away, cheeks burning. “As if I have anyone to wear this for.”
His reflection leaned closer, his gaze locking onto yours. “Then wear it for me sometime.”
His tone was casual, friendly even, but it left you spiraling. For a moment, it felt like there was something unspoken between you. Something real.
Or maybe it was just wishful thinking.
Kotoha was the first to catch on to your feelings. She teased you mercilessly at first, but when the teasing turned to heartfelt advice, you realized she saw through you entirely.
“He’s had a thing for Umemiya for years,” Kotoha said one evening. “It’s not hopeless, but… it might not go the way you hope.”
Still, you held on to a sliver of hope. You told yourself you’d be okay, that you could handle it.
But when Tsubaki asked for your help planning a Christmas dinner—a confession dinner for Umemiya—it felt like the universe was playing a cruel joke.
How could you say no to the person who unknowingly held your heart?
You threw yourself into the preparations, channeling every unspoken word into the decorations, the food, even the gift. You helped choose a watch for Tsubaki to give Umemiya, a gesture so thoughtful it felt like twisting the knife in your own chest.
Suo and a few other Bofurin members joined in, their chatter light and carefree. But when Suo overheard you quietly admit to Kotoha how much it hurt to see Tsubaki love someone else, he gave you a look that was equal parts pity and understanding.
Finally, everything was ready. You waited outside with the others, giving Tsubaki and Umemiya their moment. Through the frosted window, you watched as Tsubaki led Umemiya inside, your heart clenching with every step.
Then it happened. Like slow motion, Tsubaki wrapped his arms around Umemiya’s neck, and Umemiya leaned in for a kiss. The world went quiet for you, the cheers of the Bofurin members fading into nothingness.
From your position, you saw Tsubaki twirling his hair as Umemiya cupped his face longingly. The warmth in Tsubaki’s expression was unmistakable. It was love.
Your fingers curled around the small velvet box in your pocket, the necklace you had bought for Tsubaki pressing into your palm. It had been meant as a Christmas gift, a way to finally show him how you felt. But now, you knew you’d never give it to him.
Your vision blurred with tears as you turned away, the soft crunch of your footsteps in the snow the only sound accompanying you back home. Somewhere, Tsubaki was enjoying the love and happiness he deserved. And for now, that would have to be enough for you.
Even as your heart ached with every passing moment, you knew you had to bury your feelings, leaving them behind like footprints in the snow.
Because some love stories, you realized, weren’t meant to be yours.
amari's notes: i have a huge crush on tsubaki-chan. that's it, that's the tea. but tsubaume ship is my roman empire anyway, I’d love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to leave a reply or drop an ask or even a request! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

The Fashion of Haiqin
Fashion
Fashion and Aesthetics:
Haiqin's fashion culture is deeply rooted in the natural world and the balance between tradition and modernity. The country's fashion scene reflects a fusion of aesthetic choices that combine the elegance of its diverse provinces with the functionality needed for daily life. The use of natural fibers, organic dyes, and handcrafted techniques is central to the Haiqin way of dressing, which emphasizes individuality, personal expression, and a deep connection to nature.
General Fashion Trends:
The national fashion landscape in Haiqin is characterized by vibrant colors and soft textures. Traditional elements, such as flowing robes and embroidered accessories, blend seamlessly with contemporary cuts and styles. This creates a style that feels both timeless and modern. Natural dyes and locally sourced fabrics, such as cotton, silk, and wool, are commonly used. Handmade garments showcase intricate patterns and motifs often inspired by nature, from plants to animals, representing the nation's reverence for the goddess Nera, the deity of nature and life.
Fashion is characterized by vibrant colors and soft, comfortable designs. Many garments incorporate natural dyes sourced from plants and minerals, reflecting Haiqin’s deep connection to the earth. Loose, flowing fabrics are common, with a focus on ease of movement and breathability, making them suitable for both formal and informal settings. There is also a trend towards minimalist, clean designs, especially in urban centers, where modern styles meet traditional sensibilities.
Jewelry:
In Haiqin, jewelry is not just an accessory but a vital part of self-expression. People across all social classes adorn themselves with handmade pieces that tell stories of their heritage, social status, and connection to nature. Traditional designs often incorporate symbols of the local fauna, flora, and spiritual beliefs. Popular materials include silver, gold, gemstones, and materials sourced from the local environment, such as shells, wood, and bone. Jewelry is worn for both aesthetic purposes and as a spiritual offering to Nera, symbolizing one’s bond with the land and nature.
Cultural Significance of Accessories:
Accessories are deeply meaningful in Haiqin's culture. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings are not only ornamental but also carry cultural and spiritual significance. Each region has its own style, with some using charms and amulets for protection or blessings. For example, in Nirin, desert-inspired jewelry with motifs like lions, bones and scorpions is common, while in Stellis, cutting-edge designs represent technological advancements.
Showy Clothing vs. Modesty:
In Haiqin, there is a clear divide between younger generations' embrace of more extravagant and showy clothing and the older generations' preference for modesty. Among those aged 16 and older, especially in urban centers like Stellis, fashion often includes dramatic, eye-catching pieces that make bold statements. Bright, showy attire is embraced by the younger population (16+), blending traditional styles with contemporary influences. While vibrant, clothing remains modest, often featuring delicate layers and tailored structures that blend modern cuts with historical elements. However, for younger individuals, modesty is still an important value, especially during ceremonies or traditional festivals.
Traditional Clothing for Festivals:
Festivals in Haiqin are a celebration of the nation’s rich heritage and the natural world. The traditional clothing worn during festivals is often elaborate, featuring flowing fabrics adorned with detailed embroidery or prints representing plants, animals, and natural phenomena. These garments are designed to be visually stunning while maintaining respect for cultural customs. In some provinces, modesty is observed in the attire of younger individuals, though many outfits feature bold patterns or colors, reflecting the vibrancy of the festival itself. Jewelry, often made from gold, silver, and precious stones, is worn with great pride during these times.
Military Attire:
Haiqin’s military attire reflects its deep connection to the natural world, with uniforms incorporating animal motifs such as claws or talons, representing strength and power. These designs, rooted in the nation's historical warrior culture, are maintained even in the modern era, where soldiers still wear uniforms that blend traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. This sense of unity between the ancient and modern is also reflected in the weapons and tools used by the military, which draw inspiration from the natural elements of Haiqin’s landscape.
Fashion in each Province
Fashion Styles
Stellis:
As the capital, Stellis is the hub of contemporary fashion, where high-tech, innovative designs are the norm. Urban wear is often trendy, with a heavy influence from the tech and finance industries. Neon colors, metallics, and sleek, minimalist designs are popular, especially among the younger population. Fashion shows are common here, with designers showcasing the fusion of modern aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship, such as clothing adorned with subtle patterns of native plants or animals. People often wear clothing with smart fabric technology, blending style with function.
Eldariaz:
Eldariaz is home to the royal family, and its fashion reflects the province’s rich, aristocratic heritage. Elegant, opulent attire is common, featuring long, flowing gowns for women and tailored suits for men. Clothing is often made from luxurious silks and velvets, with intricate embroidery and beadwork showcasing the region's craftsmanship. During festivals, these elaborate outfits are paired with opulent jewelry, often featuring gemstones that reflect the province's royal history.
Nirin:
Nirin’s desert climate necessitates practical, lightweight clothing made from breathable fabrics. Tunics and skirts for women are common, often adorned with animal motifs in the embroidery. Jewelry in Nirin is simple yet striking, often featuring designs inspired by the local fauna, such as scorpions, lizards, and desert flowers. And animals too like the waterlight golden butterfly, lions, and foxes. The people of Nirin value functionality and their clothing is designed to keep them cool in the hot, arid climate while reflecting their deep connection to nature. Usually, very colorful, short tops and long skirts are in style.
Those living in waterlight city and other smaller cities within the canyon, they have more showy and contemporary as the climate is better.
Sandals or shoes are similar to claws but not sharp on the bottom, based on older weapons.
from WLOP's ghostblade (aeolian and lylian)
Primos:
Known for its rugged mountain terrain, Primos’ fashion is built around functionality and durability. Adventure-ready clothing such as hiking gear, durable boots, and outdoor accessories is popular. The colors are often bright and vibrant, reflecting the natural beauty of the mountains. Wool, furs, and thick fabrics are used to keep people warm during the colder months, while outdoor festivals celebrate the region’s spirit of exploration, with people dressing in practical yet stylish gear suitable for climbing or trekking.
Mian:
Mian blends ancient traditions with modern life, with clothing reflecting this duality. Loose-fitting garments that emphasize comfort and ease are common, and many fabrics feature ancient patterns and motifs. Mian’s fashion draws heavily from the province's ruins and historical landmarks, with clothing designs inspired by the classical art and architecture that once flourished here. During festivals, people wear clothes that evoke nostalgia for Mian’s ancient history, adorned with delicate jewelry featuring geometric patterns and symbols of the past.
Valero:
Valero’s coastal environment influences its fashion, with a focus on nautical-inspired attire. Light, breathable dresses, buttoned shirts, and coastal accessories like wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses are commonly worn. Bright colors and floral patterns are favored, reflecting the province's sunny and warm climate. Festivals here celebrate the sea, with people dressing in garments made from lightweight fabrics to ensure comfort during the humid, saltwater-laden air.
Naidya:
The tropical island atmosphere of Naidya promotes vibrant, flowy resort wear. Bright colors, floral patterns, and lightweight fabrics dominate the clothing choices here, often designed with ease and relaxation in mind. Swimwear is a significant part of the fashion culture due to the province’s proximity to the ocean. At festivals, people wear brightly colored sarongs and dresses, many adorned with tropical prints that celebrate the island’s rich biodiversity.

Tattoos and Piercings
Cultural Significance
Symbolism and Tradition:
In Haiqin, tattoos and piercings carry meanings that connect individuals to their heritage, local deities, and the natural world. Symbolic tattoos often feature animals, plants, and celestial bodies, tying the wearer to their land, community, or personal beliefs. It is common to see tattoos representing native flora and fauna, rivers, and even seasonal cycles, which are believed to grant strength, luck, or wisdom to the bearer.
Some tattoos are purely artistic, allowing individuals to showcase their unique identities, while others represent specific cultural or familial ties. Tattoos associated with the main religions often include symbols of protection, blessings, or homage to deities, serving as reminders of faith and devotion.
Rites of Passage:
Many tattoos and piercings in Haiqin are obtained during important life events, marking transitions such as reaching adulthood, marriage, childbirth, or personal milestones. Coming-of-age tattoos are particularly common; young adults receive their first tattoo to symbolize maturity and responsibility within their community. These designs are typically small and located on visible parts of the body, such as the wrist or shoulder, to honor their significance openly.
Similarly, marriage tattoos are common, with couples choosing matching designs or complementary symbols to represent their bond. Certain regions even practice generational tattoos, where family members share specific patterns, each generation adding to the family motif as a symbol of unity and continuity.
Artisans and Community Respect:
Tattoo and piercing artisans hold esteemed positions within Haiqin society, particularly in regions with longstanding traditions of body art. Becoming an artisan is often an intergenerational craft, with skills, techniques, and specific styles passed down through families. These artisans undergo years of training, and their work is viewed as a collaborative art form, as they work closely with clients to create designs that are both meaningful and aesthetically unique. Artisans are celebrated not just for their skill but for their deep knowledge of cultural symbols and the ability to bring a person’s story or beliefs to life through their art.
Religious and Spiritual Elements:
For followers of the main religions in Haiqin, tattoos and piercings often hold spiritual significance. Symbols associated with deities, sacred animals, or elements like the sun and moon are commonly tattooed as acts of devotion, protection, or blessing. Some communities believe these tattoos connect the wearer to divine energies or serve as a form of spiritual armor, warding off negative influences.
Many followers also have symbolic piercings, such as earrings or nose rings, representing their connection to specific deities or as tributes during religious festivals. These religious piercings are often adorned with stones or designs believed to hold protective or purifying qualities, such as turquoise, amethyst, or symbols related to water or fire.
Modern and Artistic Tattoos:
With the rise of popular culture, Haiqin has also embraced modern tattoo trends, such as minimalist designs, geometric patterns, and even tattoo styles influenced by global trends. Many younger generations experiment with these styles, blending traditional symbolism with modern art to create pieces that are both culturally meaningful and personally expressive.
Community and Celebratory Tattoos:
Festivals often feature tattooing events where people come together to receive or renew tattoos as a sign of unity. During these events, individuals might get matching tattoos with friends or family to commemorate the occasion. Additionally, new designs inspired by festival themes are crafted each year, adding to the evolving artistic expressions in Haiqin’s tattoo culture.
Regional Styles
Stellis
Stellis is known for its fusion styles, combining modern tattoo trends with traditional Haiqin designs. Popular styles include intricate geometric patterns and minimalist animal motifs. Piercings are often elaborate, with multi-stone jewelry and custom-made pieces that blend modern fashion with cultural motifs, including depictions of birds or flowers unique to Stellis.
Eldariaz
The body art in Eldariaz is distinguished by its use of vibrant colors and tropical themes, often showcasing lush plants, exotic animals, and sun motifs. Tattoos here are known for their intricacy and symbolic ties to the region’s royal history. Piercings often use tropical gems like coral and aquamarine, symbolizing life and vitality.
Nirin
Nirin’s tattoo culture has strong ties to its rugged landscape, often featuring cactus motifs, canyon-inspired designs, and earthy tones. Tattoos are often large and bold, symbolizing resilience and strength. Floral tattoos inspired by local wildflowers are popular among residents of Waterlight City, who believe these designs bring peace and clarity. Piercings here are minimalist but symbolic, often featuring hammered metal or small stones to represent nature’s raw beauty.
Primos
In Primos, tattoos and piercings reflect the mountainous landscape, incorporating earthy hues and natural textures. Tattoos of mountain ranges, clouds, and animals native to the region are popular, symbolizing courage and endurance. Piercings tend to be rugged, using natural stones and metals, often crafted by local artisans as a testament to the region’s craftsmanship.
Mian
Mian’s tattoo culture focuses on symbolism and simplicity, with designs that often feature circles, cycles, or connected shapes to symbolize community and unity. Tattoos here are usually located on the hands or arms as symbols of togetherness. Piercings are understated but elegant, with many people wearing jewelry inspired by leaves, branches, and river motifs, often passed down through families as heirlooms.
Valero
In coastal Valero, tattoos often represent the ocean, waves, and marine life. Many residents have tattoos of fish, shells, or sea birds, believed to bring good fortune and protection on the water. Piercings feature pearls and oceanic colors, often in the shape of fish or shells, adding a touch of the sea to personal adornment.
Naidya
Tattoos in Naidya are vibrant and tropical, inspired by the island’s lush environment. Floral patterns, fruits, and sea creatures are popular, representing growth and harmony with nature. Piercings often include sea glass and natural materials, emphasizing sustainability, with many choosing designs that resemble native flowers or fish as a tribute to the region’s ecology.
Agrios
Agrios, with its industrial roots, favors bold and rugged tattoo designs. Common motifs include industrial-inspired patterns, animals symbolizing strength, and family insignias. Piercings are edgy, with many favoring silver and metalwork, adding a modern, urban twist while paying homage to traditional styles.
Dridells
In Dridells, body art focuses on river life and the flora around it. Tattoos often depict fish, river plants, and patterns that resemble flowing water, symbolizing fluidity and adaptability. Piercings incorporate freshwater pearls and green stones, often in wave or leaf shapes, blending tradition with urban influences.
Luminiaz
Luminiaz’s tattoos focus on sustainability, with many residents opting for plant-based ink. Common motifs include wild herbs, mountains, and the moon, symbolizing balance and mindfulness. Piercings here are simple and eco-friendly, using recycled materials or sustainably sourced stones to reflect the region’s respect for nature.
Piercing Styles and Symbolism
Piercings and Jewelry:
Piercings are equally significant, often seen as an extension of one’s personal or spiritual identity. Jewelry styles vary by region but commonly feature gems, metals, and designs inspired by nature. Piercings are often adorned with charms representing animals or symbols associated with protection, wisdom, or resilience.
Gems and Jewelry:
Jewelry worn in piercings frequently includes precious stones or metals, believed to carry protective or spiritual properties. Amethysts, sapphires, and moonstones are popular choices, each believed to channel different energies, such as peace, wisdom, or courage.
Animal Representations:
Animal motifs are a common feature in jewelry. Many people wear charms shaped like animals that are symbolic to their family or region, such as birds for freedom, serpents for wisdom, or fish for adaptability.
Cultural and Modern Influences:
While piercings often retain cultural meanings, there are also trends inspired by global fashion. Younger generations in urban areas may mix traditional jewelry with modern piercings, combining symbols of nature with current designs for a personalized, hybrid aesthetic.
Personalization:
Piercings in Haiqin are highly personalized and rich in symbolism. Common motifs include animals, plants, and celestial bodies, often set in delicate gold or silver settings with precious gems. Animal-shaped jewelry, representing totemic animals of a region, is particularly popular, as is jewelry inspired by the natural elements, such as raindrop earrings or leaf-shaped nose rings.
Body Piercings:
Belly button piercings or piercings along the collarbones or ribs can hold personal or spiritual significance. Some individuals even opt for piercings along their arms or legs as a form of protection or to symbolize their connection to the earth.
Earrings and Ear Piercings:
Earrings, often made from gold or silver and embedded with stones like amethyst, turquoise, or onyx, are extremely popular. These piercings might symbolize wisdom, strength, or prosperity, depending on the stone.
Facial Piercings:
Nose piercings, eyebrow piercings, and lip piercings are common in both traditional and modern settings, often featuring small, gleaming gems that catch the light.
Beliefs:
For those following traditional beliefs, each piercing may carry specific spiritual or personal significance. For instance, some piercings represent a protective spirit animal, while others are believed to enhance qualities like wisdom, strength, or compassion.

“Many have used Shakespeare’s work as a vessel to portray their own traditions and creativity in order to catch up with the times. We are no different. When traditional opera is gradually losing its audience, how do we renew the value of this performance art?”
---
“We didn’t change the story background or the characters’ names. The 21st-century world is borderless – everyone already knows the story. We wanted to authentically show the richness of Julius Caesar and to directly insert our performance art in a Western theatre context.”
“That’s why many of my costumes still have water sleeves,” he adds. In Chinese opera, water sleeves are silk extensions to the cuff of garments used to produce ripple-like movements and represent different emotions.
---
The Peking opera version of Julius Caesar will introduce a new character – a modern-day scholar documenting ancient Roman ruins with a digital camera.
