As the top is at 8500 feet, it's a later season hike. I tried it two years ago in mid-June and didn't make it, lost the trail in the snow on the way down (still don't know how that happened), and ended up trekking much longer than I planned on trekking, for a short time wondering if I'd taken an unplanned camping trip. The Lost Sierra Route

Linking 15 California Mountain Communities Through Trails

In recent years, the sleepy California mountain town of Downieville has become a popular destination for mountain bikers who want to ride the 15+ mile Downieville Downhill. This route begins just north of Sierra Buttes on the old PCT (before the re-route of the PCT around the north side of Sierra Buttes). The region is embracing the success of the Downieville Downhill and proposing an even more ambitious "Lost Sierra Route" which would be open to mountain bikers and moto riders as well as hikers and equestrians.

The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is developing a Trails Master Plan for Connected Communities. The Trails Master Plan (TMP) will create a vision for a recreation-focused lifestyle through community investment, shared stewardship, economic opportunity and important new local jobs, all benefiting economically disadvantaged communities in California’s Plumas, Sierra, Butte, Lassen, and Nevada Counties as well as Washoe County, Nevada.

A key component is the proposed “Lost Sierra Route”, which traverses over breathtaking topography, jagged peaks and high alpine meadows similar to the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and the John Muir Trail (JMT). But unlike the PCT and JMT, this new trans-Sierra Nevada and Cascade Range route allows for all dirt trail travelers including hikers, mountain bikers, moto riders, equestrians, trail runners, hunters, fishermen, wildlife, grandmothers and babies in backpacks. The Lost Sierra Route will be a trail for all to use that will link mountain communities together for recreational adventure and economic sustainability.

It will be interesting to see how such broad multi-use trails function. My own experience is that moto riders are so high impact on trails that it is difficult to imagine them co-existing with hikers, trail runners, grandmothers and babies in backpacks. I also fear the impact of motorized vehicles on the fragile natural space on "high alpine meadows" . . . but perhaps the plan will restrict moto riders to certain sections of the proposed Lost Sierra Route. And lastly, how will the Lost Sierra Route interface with the PCT which passes through some of the same area . . . Sierra City, Truckee, Chester, and Quincy. Stay tuned.

I will be writing a whole post on near-future global crisis books and how the genre is just rough and everyone should stop trying to write it and promote some nonfiction instead (once I actually finish this damn book) but I will say, shout out to the one chapter with the kayaker in SGV. LA does suck and we should rip it out and try all over again, so true.

shopping as plus-sized/mid-sized/larger woman is lowkey a nightmare. i just want to look cute and try to feel cute because I don't always like how my body looks!!! yet all the options we have are dresses that are kinda cute, but the silhouette isn't flattering or the patterns are just... not it. like I'm trying to do a little online black friday shopping as a Treat™️ and although I love ASOS the dresses are a little disappointing :( that or the clothing items are waaay more expensive than the "straight sizes" and it's like??? these are literally the same style and article of clothing why tf are you charging an arm and a leg more for a little extra fabric and time??? it's fucking stupid. that or I'll see something that I think is really cute, but the sizes cut off right before mine 🤪 size-inclusive my ass. anywho, if anyone has some decent suggestions, hit your girl up!
