Pt2 to this post
'Is something wrong?' Nancy asks, not long after the two of them have taken their familiar spots on the hood of Steve's car. They're basking in what might be the last warm sunlight of the year, looking out over the quarry, at a safe distance from the edge.
It's become a tradition the two of them share, ever since they reconnected back in March. It calms them both, to just sit here and take in the view, no one around but each other. Nancy is one of the few people Steve can share a comfortable silence with: sometimes they sit here quietly for what feels like hours, side by side, listening to music or to nothing but the birds singing around them. But they also have their best conversations here: it's the place where Nancy entrusted him she wanted to break up with Jonathan; it's the place where they talked about their shared past and decided they would always love each other as friends; it's the place where they finally talked about Barbara in a way they couldn't when they were younger. It's where Nancy talked about the ghosts still haunting her and Steve talked about how lonely he sometimes felt.
Steve huffs. 'How did you guess?'
'When you frown, you always do it with your whole face,' Nancy notes. 'So it's hard to miss, really.'
Steve glances at her side profile. There's a serenity to her features that's still relatively new. It means she's healing, slowly learning how to be happy again. It means she stopped waiting for the end of the world and started believing in a real future again. It makes Steve proud of how far they both have come.
'I had a fight with Eddie,' he confesses. 'And with Dustin, I guess.'
'What happened?'
He sighs. 'It's complicated.'
'Wanna tell me about it?'
The look in her eyes is kind and inviting. Steve hesitates. He wants to, but he doesn't know if he can. It's a risk. It's scary.
But he can't imagine Nancy Wheeler ever being careless with his secrets. He can't imagine her judging him, can't imagine her being as small-minded as most people in this town.
He was planning on telling her anyway, because things had been going so well with Eddie lately and – no, he shouldn't think about that right now. But maybe it would actually be nice to talk about it with Nancy.
'So, um...' His throat feels tight and his hands are sweaty. 'I recently discovered some things about myself. I-' The words get stuck somewhere on the way to his mouth, and he clears his throat.
Nancy doesn't push, but only gives him an encouraging nod, waiting for him to find his voice again.
'I found out I like boys,' he finally manages to confess. 'And I need you to know that – that that doesn't mean that what I felt for you wasn't real. It was. I loved you, and now I fell in love with a boy. And-'
'Steve.' Nancy's hand suddenly covers his, causing him to finally jerk his head away from the view over the quarry, to focus on her face again instead.
Her eyes are wide, and she squeezes his hand.
'You don't have to explain yourself to me,' she tells him. 'We're good. But thank you for telling me. For trusting me with this.'
Steve heaves out a relieved sigh, and Nancy smiles; it's that genuine kind of smile which reveals all kinds of dimples and soft lines across her face.
'We might be more similar than you thought,' she tells him, a faint blush spreading over her cheeks.
'Really?' Her words make his breath catch in his throat. He squints at her, trying to see her in this new light. 'Are you saying what I think you're saying?'
She shrugs. 'I don't know. I'm not sure yet,' she admits. 'Still figuring things out.'
'Take your time, there's no rush,' he tells her. 'But...' He bumps his shoulder against hers. 'When you're done figuring it out, talk to me, okay?'
She nods. 'Okay.'
For a while, it's quiet between the two of them. Some kind of raptor circles high above them in the sky. They both follow it with their eyes until it disappears among the tree tops west of the quarry.
'Is it Eddie?'
Steve blinks dumbly a couple of times.
'Wha- what?'
'The guy you were talking about. The one you fell in love with. It's Eddie, isn't it?'
'Jesus, Wheeler, what kind of sorceress are you?' Steve exclaims.
Nancy laughs again. 'You're not being as subtle as you think,' she tells him. 'The two of you have been hooking up for a while now, haven't you?'
Steve huffs dramatically. 'This is unfair. You know everything; I can't even tell you my own secrets anymore!'
'So what happened?' Nancy asks. 'You said you had a fight with him?'
'It's fucking stupid,' he sighs. 'Dustin was getting way too excited about the fact that I was gonna be hanging out with you, so I told him I was seeing someone. Next thing I knew, he was telling Eddie all about how I was seeing a girl.' He waves his hands around to make annoyed air quotations. 'I wanted to tell Eddie it was a misunderstanding, but Dustin was there, so I couldn't out us just like that, and he looked so betrayed and heartbroken... He didn't wanna listen to me.'
Steve sighs; he still can't manage to forget that look in Eddie's eyes when Dustin delivered the big news. 'I wish I would've talked about what I felt for him earlier. I should've been honest when I had the chance, y'know. But I was afraid he wouldn't wanna label what we had, that he wouldn't feel the same way – and now we're in this whole mess. God, he must hate me right now, Nance.'
To his surprise, Nancy gives him an unexpected slap against his arm.
'Ouch, what the hell was that for?!'
'What are you even doing here with me, Steve? You should've gone after him, tell him how you feel!'
'I tried, obviously, but he didn't wanna listen to me!'
'So make him listen! You're in love with him, he obviously feels the same way about you, and you let him leave to wallow in a broken heart he doesn't even need to have!' She rolls her eyes and slides off the car, adding something under her breath that sounds suspiciously like an exasperated 'Boys!' before she pulls Steve off the car as well. 'C'mon, time to get your ass over to the trailer park. Right. Now,' she says through gritted teeth. And, well, Steve knows better than to argue with a determined - and truthfully quite terrifying - Nancy Wheeler.

Seeing as so many people seemed to find my post about the "lesser used causes of delirium" interesting I thought I might do a similar one about fever.
So I read a LOT of sick fics -it's a problem. And I would say that fever is probably one of the most commonly used sickness/illness symptoms in them. Which makes sense - fever is fascinating and can have so many complex and interesting effects on the whumpee.
However, I’ve noticed that in most fics, fever is typically caused by infections or illnesses such as the flu. And in away this is a sahame because there are SO MANYU other, less frequently explored, causes of fever. Several of which could add a good deal of tension if Caretaker doesn't fully understand it and tries to treat it like an infection or flu.
For instance, I think I;ve seen psychogenic used maybe twice. Heatstroke is depicted more often, but many people might not realize that it falls under the fever umbrella. So on that basis, let's start with a definition of fever and then explore some of these lesser-used causes.
Fever, or pyrexia, is a temporary increase in body temperature, often due to an illness.
A fever is usually considered to be a body temperature above 38°C (100.4°F).
Environmental Causes:
Hypothermia-Induced Fever
Heatstroke
Definition: Paradoxical fever can occur during the rewarming process after hypothermia, where the body temperature temporarily spikes.
Symptoms: confusion, shivering, and a transient increase in body temperature. This response requires careful monitoring and gradual rewarming techniques to prevent complications.
Definition: Heatstroke is a severe form of hyperthermia, where the body’s temperature regulation fails due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures, leading to a dangerously high body temperature.
Symptoms: confusion, altered mental state, slurred speech, hot and dry skin, and possibly unconsciousness. If not treated promptly, heatstroke can be life-threatening.
Drug-Induced Fever
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome
Definition: Drug-induced fever occurs when a medication causes an increase in body temperature. This can happen due to various mechanisms, such as an allergic reaction, the drug itself having fever as a side effect, or through drug interactions.
Symptoms: high temperature that does not respond to standard fever-reducing treatments, rash, swelling, and other allergic reaction signs. Identifying the offending drug can be challenging, especially if the patient is on multiple medications.
Serotonin Syndrome
Definition: Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare but serious reaction to antipsychotic medications, characterized by fever, muscle rigidity, and altered mental status.
Symptoms: high fever, severe muscle stiffness, altered mental status, and autonomic dysfunction such as irregular heart rate or blood pressure. Prompt recognition and discontinuation of the offending drug, along with supportive treatment, are essential to prevent serious complications or death.
Malignant Hyperthermia
Definition: Serotonin syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition resulting from an excess of serotonin in the central nervous system, often due to drug interactions or overdose of serotonergic medications.
Symptoms: high fever, agitation, increased reflexes, tremor, sweating, dilated pupils, and diarrhea. Severe cases can lead to seizures, irregular heartbeat, and unconsciousness. Treatment involves discontinuing the causative agents and providing supportive care to manage symptoms.
Definition: Malignant hyperthermia is a rare but life-threatening reaction to certain anesthesia drugs, causing a rapid increase in body temperature and severe muscle contractions.
Symptoms: a sudden and severe increase in body temperature, muscle rigidity, tachycardia, and dark brown urine. Immediate treatment with dantrolene and supportive measures is crucial to prevent serious complications or death.
Endocrine Disorders:
Adrenal Crisis
Thyroid Storm
Definition: An adrenal crisis occurs when the body produces insufficient cortisol due to adrenal insufficiency or Addison’s disease.
Symptoms: high fever, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, confusion, low blood pressure, and shock. Immediate treatment with corticosteroids and fluid replacement is crucial to avoid life-threatening complications.
Definition: A thyroid storm is a rare but severe complication of hyperthyroidism, where an excessive amount of thyroid hormone leads to a dramatic increase in metabolic rate and body temperature.
Symptoms: a high fever, rapid heart rate, agitation, delirium, and potentially life-threatening cardiovascular complications. Treatment requires aggressive management of thyroid hormone levels and supportive care.
Inflammatory Diseases:
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Vasculitis
Definition: Systemic inflammation from conditions like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
Symptome: Persistent fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, fatigue, specific organ/system-related signs; managing the underlying condition helps control fever.
Definition: Inflammation of blood vessels causing systemic inflammation.
Symptoms: Persistent fever, organ-specific symptoms; treatment involves managing the underlying inflammatory process.
Autoimmune Disorders:
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus)
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Definition: Autoimmune disorder causing inflammation and tissue damage.
Symptoms: Joint pain, swelling, fatigue, persistent fever; symptoms vary widely and fever often fluctuates with disease activity.
Definition: Autoimmune disorder affecting joints.
Effects: Joint pain, swelling, fatigue, persistent fever; management of underlying disease helps control fever.
Psychogenic Fever
Definition: Psychogenic fever is a stress-induced condition where emotional stress or psychological factors lead to an elevated body temperature.
Symptom: a sudden increase in body temperature during or after stressful events, with no underlying infection or physical cause. It can be persistent and resistant to conventional fever treatments. This type of fever can create compelling narrative tension, as it highlights the interplay between mind and body.
As usual this is far from an exhaustive list, more a jumping off or starting point I guess.
Symptoms of Fever
Fever can present with a variety of symptoms, which can be broadly categorized into general, specific, and severe symptoms:
General Symptoms:
Elevated Body Temperature: The hallmark of fever is an increase in body temperature above the normal range (typically above 38°C or 100.4°F).
Sweating: As the body attempts to cool down, excessive sweating is common.
Chills and Shivering: Despite the high body temperature, individuals may feel cold and experience shivering.
Headache: A common symptom due to the body's inflammatory response.
Muscle Aches: Myalgia or generalized muscle pain can accompany fever.
Fatigue and Weakness: The body's increased metabolic rate can lead to significant fatigue and a general feeling of weakness.
Loss of Appetite: Anorexia is often seen with fever as the body's digestive processes slow down.
Specific Symptoms:
Dehydration: High temperatures can lead to significant fluid loss through sweating.
Rapid Heart Rate (Tachycardia): The heart works harder to circulate blood and dissipate heat.
Rapid Breathing (Tachypnea): Increased respiratory rate helps in heat dissipation.
Flushed Skin: The skin may appear red and warm due to increased blood flow.
Irritability: Particularly in children, fever can cause increased irritability and fussiness.
Reduced Urine Output: Dehydration can lead to oliguria (reduced urine output).
Severe Symptoms:
Confusion and Delirium: High fevers can lead to altered mental states, confusion, and even delirium.
Seizures: Febrile seizures can occur, especially in young children.
Hallucinations: Severe fevers can cause hallucinations or vivid dreams.
Unconsciousness: In extreme cases, high fever can lead to loss of consciousness.
Severe Dehydration: If not managed properly, dehydration can become life-threatening.
Organ Failure: Prolonged high fever can lead to multi-organ dysfunction or failure.
Possible Effects of Fever
Physiological Effects:
Psychological Effects:
Increased Metabolism: Fever increases metabolic rate, leading to greater energy expenditure and nutrient use.
Immune Response Activation: Fever often indicates an active immune response, with increased production of white blood cells and antibodies.
Protein Denaturation: Extremely high fevers can cause proteins to denature, impacting cellular function.
Electrolyte Imbalance: Increased sweating and fluid loss can lead to imbalances in electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and chloride.
Altered Mental Status: Fever can impact cognitive functions, causing confusion, memory disturbances, and impaired judgment.
Anxiety: Persistent high fever can cause significant anxiety and distress in both the patient and caregivers.
Stress: The physical discomfort and potential complications associated with fever can lead to increased stress levels.
Sleep Disturbances: Fever can disrupt normal sleep patterns, leading to insomnia or frequent waking.
Managing Fever
General Management:
Specific Management:
Hydration: Ensuring adequate fluid intake to prevent dehydration.
Rest: Allowing the body to conserve energy and focus on fighting the underlying cause of the fever.
Cooling Measures: Using cool compresses, tepid baths, or fans to help lower body temperature.
Antipyretics: Medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen to reduce fever and alleviate discomfort.
Monitoring: Regularly checking temperature and observing for any signs of worsening condition or complications.
Identifying and Treating Underlying Cause: Addressing the root cause of the fever, whether it’s an infection, drug reaction, or other medical condition.
Medications: Depending on the cause, antibiotics, antivirals, corticosteroids, or other specific treatments may be required.
Supportive Care: Providing additional support such as oxygen, IV fluids, or mechanical ventilation in severe cases.

I’ve been thinking a lot about people being sick at formal events where they’re all dressed up
Imagine someone dizzy and feverish struggling to keep their balance in heels. Someone who painstakingly applied makeup for it to only be gradually smeared and sweated off throughout the evening.
While people are mingling, everywhere they turn there is someone offering another glass of champagne, or an hors d’œuvre, and despite not being hungry or their stomach feeling a little uneasy, they’re too polite to decline. They keep drinking and eating, feeling worse as the night goes on, and all of this is before what is likely an elaborate and rich gourmet banquet.
Everyone is uptight and showing the best sides of themselves so there is no room to display their discomfort, there is no chance to escape smalltalk that is so mind numbing each word seems to add weight to their body which is feeling increasingly like it is made of lead.
By the time they excuse themselves, sure that they’re going to be sick, they’re too dizzy and unsteady to make their way to the bathroom quickly enough, particularly if they’re wearing heels. They end up throwing up on themselves, maybe getting it in their hair, and in their feverish state this is what really sets them off. They’re upset, inconsolable, tears beginning to fall because “this thing is dry clean only” whether it be a dress or a suit, and in their mild delirium this becomes their main misdirected concern.
I don’t know what it is about it, but that is what I’m vibing with rn

Caretaker is basically pinned where they are in bed, unable to move lest they wake up Sickie, who has finally fallen asleep in their arms after days of suffering restless and wide awake. Caretaker accepts that they won't be able to reach for anything for a while, and accepts their fate as Sickie's new snuggle pillow for the time being.

If you're sick of the current popular trope/story prompt in the Phandom or DPxDC fandom you just need to ignore it
I feel like the fans in the Phandom and DPxDC minifandom that's popped up, who are really grossed/creeped out by the genre of fic popular right now.
Where the set up is some variation of Outsider POV and the plot is based around the assumption that Vlad SAed Danny in order to create Dan and Danielle, are people who haven't been around that long.
Especially when they try to whine about none of it being based in canon. And how they don't like the shipping of Vlad and Danny (even though the people who write these kinds of fics are very obviously not shipping Vlad and Danny in them).
Because the Phandom has historically gone through phases much more gruesome and horrifying than that.
Especially when in this current micro-genre, all of the SA and grooming and other kinds of abuse are implied only, and within the fics themselves the assumed abuse never actually happened. As the plot is based on over heard or misinterpreted fragments of information that doesn't give the POV character the full picture of the situation that's actually going on.
There's the infamous vivisection fics, in which the child main character is brutally cut open and tortured by his own parents in the name of their biased views of science. Who in canon, both happily accept him no matter what every time a reveal is happens and never so much as rejects Danny emotionally.
Then there's the variation on the traditional vivisection fic in which Danny isn't emotionally rejected and stripped of his humanity by his own parents. But instead captured and stripped of his human rights by the government, either by his parents unknowing actions which they stay oblivious to. Or in spite of his parent's acceptance of him, and with them helpless to rescue or protect him from the government's torturous "research".
There's the already existing variation of grooming and SA fics, where Vlad grooms and or assaults Danny. Which have been popping up for years now, but in which all of this type of horrible abuse actually happens in the story, instead of it being an Outside POV misunderstanding what's happen like the current micro genre of fic.
There's the fics where the Fentons have just been abusive or just negligent parents Danny and Jazz's entire lives. And them hurting Danny, emotionally or physically, intentionally or accidentally, is just an extension of their already unacceptable parenting habits.
There's the edritch/body horror genre of fics where becoming half-ghost (or sometimes something else) involves at the very least the partial loss of Danny (or Vlad)'s humanity.
Hell there's one fic that's stuck with me for ages, that I read years ago, back in my teens, written from the POV of a Maddie who murdered Danny to prevent him from becoming Dan. Which is stated in that fic to be inevitable.
It's also heavily implied that Maddie had incestuous feelings for Danny the entire fic. And that she also possibly raped him in the midst of her extremely violent* vivisection murder of him. But that if she didn't rape him, at the very least, ripping him open to see his insides while he was awake and struggling got her off anyways.
So yeah, I don't know what other explanation there is to all these people who seem confused and freaked out by the various fics popping up where there's assumed SA/grooming, but actually nothing outside of canon actually happened to Danny, and the whole thing is just a misunderstanding.
Other than them being extremely new to Danny Phantom fics in general and therefore unaware of just how dark (and potentially triggering) they can be.
When there's been fics for years about SA and grooming, some of which is explicit, some of which is all implied and talked around and just as gut wrenching, and some of which is actually painted in that cringe forbidden love sort of way, for more than a literal decade now.
If you don't like it, if it makes you uncomfortable, you're just going to have to ignore or block those people, like everyone else in the Phandom who feels the way you do has done for more than a decade now.
Don't make comments to those authors that you don't like that trope, or that it makes you uncomfortable, or anything similar. Just ignore them or block them if it really bothers you that much. Because if you don't like their stuff, then rather obviously you are not their intended audience, so you need to ignore their posts and fics and keep scrolling if you're not going to block them.
*Also yes I must state it was a violent vivisection murder. Because it is clearly stated in the fic, that Vlad finds Maddie sitting outside on the porch covered in Danny's blood and viscera, and that the room she killed him in is in a similar state.
I wanna say the fic got deleted during the old Fanfiction.net purge of more adult content, even though all of the sexual abuse/incest parts of the fic where all implied and not explicit, along with the violent vivisectoin murder taking place off screen.
Though I could be wrong, and it's still out there somewhere, and possibly not exactly as I remember it. I read it more than 5 years ago now, so there's almost certainly some memory drift by this point.

im craving a fictional illness similar to Hanahaki, but like, instead of onesided love-caused flower puke, what if the victim becomes sick because of jealousy? like, he is extremely jealous his friend has been hanging out with someone new and not been around him much, and due to his extreme jealousy he becomes really sick from it. like. most symptoms i imagine are basic flu-like symptoms, or some which are also virus related. this sickness starts off easy to manage but gets worse every day, and the only way he can make it go away is to confront the person about his jealousy, or have the person take care of him until he no longer feels forgotten.
is this anything

Everyone always talks ab "ooo i hate the fact that i'm always writing/drawing the same thing" but it really is so real when i say some of us just like certain characters and tropes so much that we never tire of seeing them drawn/written. So never stop just bc you think you're repetitive.

Hey it’s me again
Could you maybe write a part 2 to Just a Fever ?? I really like your writing
Hello again, friend! I'm so glad you like my writing. You made my day! I was feeling a bit more of the whumpy direction this could go this time, but I'd be open to trying another version with more of a comfort lean if anyone wants that.
Part 1
---*-***-*---
Just a Fever Part 2
Hero’s head hurts.
They… They’re going to be sick.
Hands, rough with urgency, turn Hero onto their side. When they’re finished, the hands roll them onto their back again. Warm. The hands are warm.
****************************************
A gentle voice pulls Hero to shore from the ocean of darkness they’ve been floating in. They try to cough up the water filling their lungs, but nothing comes up. There’s no water to get rid of. There’s weight. Pressure on their chest. They can’t, can’t breathe.
New pressure. Skin touching their own just below their collarbone, gently patting.
“Please,” They try to beg, but Hero isn’t sure anything came out except more coughing.
Something slides beneath them. It puts pressure on their aching back until Hero starts to rise into a sitting position. The elevation change eases some of the pain in their chest, but Hero doesn’t have the strength to hold their head up to take a solid breath. It still hurts. They can’t stop.
The hand rubbing their chest shifts. It supports Hero’s head as if they were a baby. “Look at you. Be good for me and take a deep breath. That’s it. That’s it. Breathe and sleep.”
****************************************
“It hurts.”
“What hurts, darling?”
“Who’s there?”
“Just me.”
Hero’s hands twitch and their eyes open. Even with their eyes open everything is black. Their heart clenches in their chest. Fingers curl into fists. “Where am I? I can’t, I can’t see. Can’t see.”
“So you’re actually awake this time?” Sharp fingernails scratch Hero’s face as a damp rag is lifted from their eyes. “There. Is that better?”
Bright. Everything is bright.
The sound of someone shuffling around makes Hero flinch. They blink quickly, trying to adapt to the light flooding the room. A rough scratching noise has Hero’s ears ringing, and the light dims enough Hero can see the room they’re in.
Of all the places they expected to be, (the hospital, Mentor’s house, etc.) their own bedroom was not one of them. And they definitely didn’t expect to see Villain hovering over them.
“You!” Hero lurches up only to be pushed back by a single outstretched finger from Villain. As Villain laughs, Hero throws themselves at the other side of the bed. The blankets wrap tightly around their body and keep them from freedom.
Honestly, they’re not sure if they could have gotten much farther even without the blankets. The short burst of movement sends Hero’s head spinning. Their chest burns and their lungs… they can’t breathe. One last deep cough rattles their whole body. Their hands shake as panic starts to set in.
Air. Please, air. The thought rattles in their mind as Hero begs their lungs to breathe in. They couldn’t cough anymore if they wanted to. The world starts to go dark around the edges.
A shadowy figure hovers over them. A solid weight pressing down on them. Then, air.
Villain’s lips press lazily against Hero’s as they whisper, “I told you, Darling, I simply won’t let you die like this.” Hero’s world finally goes dark as Villain forces another shallow breath into their lungs.
****************************************
“No!” Hero woke screaming.
“You will drink.” Villain’s voice is harsh in Hero’s ear. They’re all but laying on top of Hero, pinning both of Hero’s arms above Hero’s head with one hand while the other presses a glass with some sort of liquid to Hero’s lips. “Open and drink. You need water.”
Gathering their strength, Hero thrusts their hips up, knocking Villain off balance. The water splashes across Hero’s face as they take a deep breath. The water sends them into another coughing fit. Their whole body aches, but Hero finds they have enough strength to fight as Villain tries to take control again. They flail and kick and bite.
It’s not enough, but at least this time they really tried.
One strong hit to the head sent Hero’s world spinning. “Enough!” Villain’s voice drains any fight Hero had left. They’re in serious danger. They’d seen Villain turn on their own men after speaking to them with that same tone of voice. Villain grabs Hero by the back of their neck, pulling them close to their face, “You will do as I say. You’re severely dehydrated and haven’t eaten for three days. Lie still until I return with more water. If you choose to defy me, you will suffer the consequences.”
The moment Villain’s footsteps retreat down the hall Hero throws their feet out of the bed. Their house is one floor so once they make it to the window all they have to do is hop out and run. One chance. One chance to make it out alive and Hero’s legs can’t support their weight.
Hero falls to the floor with an incriminating thud. Their head, their chest, their legs, and every part of them aches. Vision fading in and out, Hero drags themselves across the floor to the window. It’s locked. Hero is going to have to stand to open it. They… can’t. It was pointless to try. This time, Villain wins.
“Turn around, Hero.” Villain’s voice burns in Hero’s ears. “Turn around. I want to see the defeat in your eyes. For years we’ve fought each other, and I could never win against you. To think, all it took was a little illness.”
Villain grips Hero’s hair and throws them to the ground next to the bed. “Please,” Hero begs, gripping the edge of the bed in what Villain sees as an attempt to sit up and face them. And it is. They face Villain head-on, carefully hiding the emergency button they just pressed. “Please, Don’t kill me.”
“Silly Hero. That’s not why I came, and it’s not why I stayed. Now, drink.” Villain shoved a new glass of water into Hero’s hands.
When Hero nearly drops the glass, Villain sighs deeply. They sit down on the floor next to them and pull Hero into their lap. Hero doesn’t struggle, letting Villain manipulate their body until they’re half lying against Villain with their head supported against Villain’s chest. When Villain offers them the water, Hero opens their mouth and drinks.
“That’s it. Good Hero. Drink the whole glass if you can. You need it.”
The cup wasn’t large, but the effort of fighting Villain and forcing themselves to suddenly drink after going so long without exhausts Hero. Sip after sip they drink the offered water until Villain’s words register in their drowsy mind. By then, it’s too late.
“Rest, Darling. We’ll worry about your punishment later, but for now, don’t fight it. We’ve got a long trip ahead of us, so finish it all. It’ll go much better if you sleep.”
