AU musings under the cut cuz truly, i have a goddamn problem and most of it is from my brain always go brr
uhhh... hm... Mirage spoilers pmuch right out the gate... probably IDW, and prrrrobably Next Mutation spoilers for the kids who haven’t started/caught up because surprise that’s where I pull from (aside from the 87 cartoon and 90s movies because who doesn’t pull mainly from their childhood turtles)
April being into punk, goth, alt, what have you just makes sense to me
...because she gravitated to the outsider nature of those subcultures since she, herself, didn’t feel like she quite belonged anywhere
which is natural when you’re a drawing made real
(it’s fine, she’s flesh and blood now)

alas, the process
Venus ended up being dressed in hanfu since other clothes didn’t fit her quite right; a specific group of old women were ecstatic at breaking out hanfu patterns to use.
Chung I doted on Venus so much, the only thing that kept her from becoming spoiled was when she started taking up cultivation alongside Chung I and his sect
nothing more humbling that carrying 3 buckets of water up a steep mountain side while your sifu hurls mystic blasts at your feet
Venus progressed pretty quickly though; enough to be trusted with plans to circumvent Vam Mi’s return and reconnoiter with the sect’s allies in NYC
(it didn’t work but it’s okay they defeated Vam Mi anyway)
shit now I have to come up with a name for the sect hhhhh
Chung I’s sect is one of ?? who, like the ninja, have a responsibility (among others) to regulate the mortal plane with the less mundane ones
Venus IS training to serve in his role (give or take one of her brothers or sisters being bestowed the responsibility)
hmm... Venus likes keemun tea best if she has the choice, and for soup... oxtail soup and black sesame soup
and because it was fkkn metal in Next Mutation, Venus is primarily a pugilist who occasionally uses her cultivation techniques ; she trains a little with a fan when she gets to weapons training but she prefers the spear (link has blood and some real violent fighting but fuck Fog Hill is fucking siiiiick)
...a nickname Venus gains is ‘the spear fairy’ ‘cuz i’m indulgent :)
the supernatural side of NY was already getting antsy and unruly when Venus arrived so of course she and the boys ended up fighting upon first encounter
The fight happens after hours at a local walk-around market; Raph barges in and Venus fishes around for something that isn’t the requisite staff she was saddled with before setting out (because she knows how to deal some damage with it and she wasn’t about to do that to complete strangers she didn’t know the alignment of)
she ends up using a mannequin; one arm came off so Venus attacked with that and defended with the upper part of the mannequin; Raph was getting outmatched while Mikey and Donnie were laughing in increasing volume
at a certain point Leo tried to intervene but Venus assumed it was a double team, ripped the other arm off the mannequin and defended with both against Raph and Leo; eventually her hood was flipped and they saw she was a turtle so cue Venus using the opportunity to get them both on the ground and about to smash the now armless mannequin torso onto Leo and Raph before Donnie called for a truce
at which point, as is established, Mikey quipped up at the scene, “I call this... ‘Venus de Milo, triumph over dorkus maximuses’”
Leo DID try to address her by her actual name but his not-quite-right tone made her pity him and insisted he just use Mikey’s new nickname
Venus absolutely asked why the boys were running around half naked when she came across them; they didn’t have an answer they just shrugged and let Mikey change the subject with asking if she’s tried NY pizza yet
Venus is ambivalent in the end, she knew humans wore clothes since their bits are just ...like, out there dangling around; the yaoguai around her also dressed and thought they were just adhering to the custom out of simple consideration
Venus eventually gears up like the boys to help hide her mission from the sect trying to resurrect Vam Mi
Leo gives Venus a spare mask of his; it came from a bin of incorrectly dyed masks when he was attempting shibori dye experiments
Mikey was so enthusiastic about it, having only known April at the time he asked if he could try out braiding her mask tails since Leo didn’t bother tailoring it after he botched the dye job
Splinter helps Venus make contact with her sect’s allies ala Rescuers Down Under
NM!Venus canonically knows how to pick locks why not in this AU too
The boys take Venus to the library one night, Donnie pleads for Venus to break into the reference shelves, stoops to fibbing a little that information she might find handy could be in those shelves (they weren’t)
A hilarious exchange happens between April and Venus when Venus cycles through like 3 dialects and 2 languages before finding out April speaks Canto; Venus starts calling April Ah ze, in kind April calls Venus Ah mui
hmm hmmm... still torn between April meeting the boys once as little kids then running into them again when she’s an adult or having her meet them as little kids but connecting a little earlier, 1-2 years from graduating HS
mostly just cuz I wanna have this AU April taking them to GWAR concerts so they can enjoy being out without getting clocked
Casey and Raph absolutely dressed as the Bash Brothers for a couple of halloweens
I like the idea of Casey thinking of himself as the fifth turtle brother because it’s sweet, thassit AU canon it is done
I feel like Jennika probably ran into April and Casey at separate music venues; befriended Casey first tho
Jennika spent two years in China with Venus, getting her handle on her new turtle body; when she came back she nearly cleaned out 3 thrift stores and basically commandeered a portion of Donnie’s lab for almost a year to tailor clothes for herself
Donnie basically made himself a mini-clothing manufacturing factory by salvaging and rebuilding embroidery, pattern cutting, and industrial sewing machines
Jennika and Mondo have jam sessions
The brockhampton parody in this AU is northbrockton, Jennika and Mondo are rotational members
Mondo can speak hawaiian pidgin, he speak liddat when he go an talk story with Mikey ova some grinds, Mikey also starts picking it up
Mondo sometimes refers to Mikey as Braddah Honu
One of the stolen waste/mutagen barrels from That Night rolled and got shunted conveniently to a desolate lot where it leaked for years
Mondo came across it looking for a place for his band to jam without getting interrupted, pop goes the lizard mutation
tl;dr a video of urban explorers stumbling on it got onto Mona’s feed (and I’m smudging her original start as a physicist to a biophysicist) and since she’s a can do sort of girl she goes to check it out herself before reporting it to the proper organizations-- bam, mutant lizard Mona Lisa rip
that same video came across on one of Donnie’s feeds, Raph’n Mikey go to investigate and come upon a distraught lizard Mona Lisa; Mikey uses her assumption they were also originally human to bring her back to the lair and get her calmed down
god it’s so messy, thankfully Splinter, Leo and April are far better at helping Mona come to grips with her mutation, Donnie helps out in setting her up to survive the first couple months of transitioning between her old human life to navigating her mutant one
For me, she’s now Mona Lisa Saperfeld purely for this exact reference link
Raph and Casey also get the occasional treats from the local bodegas, but for running off extortionists and other assorted dipshits with too much time an not enough supervision
Jennika, Mondo, and Mikey are constantly replacing each others’ high scores in Guitar Hero and DDR in Donnie’s arcade
When Donnie, Casey, and Raph are left in the garage for too long... they end up making the weirdest shit (link to a Handy Geng playlist, a dude who makes funky inventions)

You did it. You finally did it, you were a Legend! An Apex Legend! You worked your ass off and you made it, you were on the way to meet everyone and get settled into your new home. Yes you were nervous, you’re a fan of almost all the legends and now you were one of them, how could you NOT be nervous? You breathe in and out as the momentum slows and you realize that you’ve arrived. The door gets opened by the driver and you exit, your bags already being taken up to your room.
As you were lead to the main area where everyone was gathered, you heard music and chatter before you got there. Everyone got quiet when you entered and the first one to say something was none other than Mirage.
“Hey hey! There’s the new gal! Welcome to our uni-un- special group! I’m Elliot, also known as Mirage.” He takes a little bow and suddenly another one of him wraps his arm around himself. It was confusing but you laugh nonetheless at his greeting.
Soon Ajay came up and shook your hand, smiling. “Hey now, welcome to da family! I’m Lifeline on da field but you can call me Ajay. What’s ya name?” You smile back, shaking her hand. Thee Lifeline, she’s literally so iconic and you’re just buddies with her suddenly. It was hard to maintain composure. “I’m Y/n! Nice to meet everyone!” You say cheerfully.
Fuse hollers out “and she’s a looker! What a deal!” The typical thing Fuse would say, soon being nudged by his own partner Bloodhound. That earned a chuckle from the one eyed Aussie and a kiss was placed on the masked hunter’s temple in apology. You thought they were flirtatious with each other but didn’t know they were actually together!
You went down the line of greetings until Ajax sighed and looked visibly annoyed. “Now where is that fool? I told him ta show up! SILVA YA BETTA GET YA ASS OVA HERE RIGHT NOW!” She shouted, soon enough you all hear distant mechanical sounds at a hurried pace. “Sorry Che! Sorry! Got a little carried away with the livestream! Did I miss the new guy?” He asked absentmindedly as he entered the room, everyone basically just gestures towards you and he soon looked over himself. “Oh! Hola! Welcome welcome! I’m Octavio! Nice to meet you, chica!” He walked over and greeted you personally, taking off his goggles revealing his eyes to you. He doesn’t reveal his face online or during the matches so you hadn’t seen his face before. What you did see though, was extremely attractive.
The evening started to liven up, as you were shown to your room and got to change. Wraith, who you came to know as Renee, told you about the welcome party they were throwing for you at the bar they go to. It was a special bar exclusively for the legends and higher ups in the industry to keep from getting bombarded with fans, paparazzi and onlookers. It was the best place for them to unwind other than their personal quarters. You nod and decide to change into something a little nicer. A form fitting top, with a loose sweater over it and some jeans. Nothing fancy but it was nicer than your typical outfit.
First thing you see was Elliott, Loba, Octavio and Natalie (Wattson) on the dance floor having a ball. They were tearing it up and once Loba caught sight of you she rushed over and dragged you to join. “Come on beautiful! You’re the guest of honor tonight! Want something to drink?” She asks as she pulls you into the group of friends dancing about.
You nod and tell her to get something strong but fruity and she just winks and says ‘leave it to me’ and waltzed off to the bar. A few songs and drinks in, you were feeling pretty loose, you were sitting in a booth with Ajay, Octavio, Renee, Loba and Elliott. They kind of already inserted themselves as your clique for now until they all get to know you and you basically choose yourself. You couldn’t complain though, you were enjoying every moment of this and as the night went on, the more comfortable you got. Not to mention you got to see Octavio’s full face for most of the night and holy hell he was attractive. You already had a crush on the daredevil but now seeing his face, his smile, his eyes. Your heart melted, you tried extremely hard not to stare at the man, failing and getting caught a few times. The girls were quick yo notice and once Octavio left the table to go to the bathroom, Loba immediately leaned over.
“Someone’s got an eye on the speedster hm?” She grinned, chin on a hand, leaning closer onto the table. Your face flushed red and you attempted to deny it but everyone already knew. Ajay not understanding the attraction but she didn’t judge. He was also basically her brother so it was weird for her to see him in that light in any way.
The rest of the night went great, nothing crazy happened. Just a party and getting to know a few of the legends you’ll be fighting and fighting along side.
About a month or so passes by and it was your first time to be in a duos match with Octane. He knocked on your door early in the morning already hyper. You groggily open the door and see him bouncing a leg while he waited. “What’s up Tavi?” You ask through a yawn, he grinned and handed you a coffee he had just gotten. “Here! It’s got an extra shot in it, gotta make sure you can keep up with me! Don’t want you falling behind, besides we gotta kick ass today and get a win! It’s our first time getting paired up!”
You couldn’t help but smile at him, he was more excited than you thought he would’ve been, not that you thought he was gonna be excited in the first place but it was nice to know he was looking forward to fighting with just the two of you. You had been in trios together and he was as chaotic as you’d imagine. Rushing in. Losing sight of him entirely. Him leading squads to you. All the fun stuff Octane does. One thing though was you’d never actually used his jump pad. You have done your best to avoid that, you didn’t know what it was. You could drop out of the airship fine so it wasn’t the height that bothered you, you weren’t sure as to why you didn’t want to fly off that thing.
“Thanks Tavi, we’ll do great today.” You take a sip of the slightly stronger coffee that was gifted to you with a hum. “Mmm, delicious. Wanna come in? I was just gonna start making some food.” You offer and he shrugs. “Cant turn down a free meal can I?” He walked inside your little place with you and plopped himself onto a chair, leg bouncing as he sat. He really could just never keep still. As you were cooking and making conversation a few other legends come to the door, Octane opening it for you while you had your hands full.
A few familiar voices chime in, saying good morning and good luck. You heard Ramya nudge her way in. “Heyy newbie! How’s it goin? Wanted to see if you wanted to make a bet with me ya?” You had been warned about Ramya’s bets and stakes. You squint your eyes with a grin, brimming with curiosity. “Depends on what the bet is. Shoot.” She chuckled and placed both hands on her hips. “If my team wins, you gotta do something for us for a week. If you win, vise versa. Easy.” You raise your eyebrow and look over at Octavio, he’s smirking. Always up for a challenge. “HahHAH!” He laughs loudly and wraps an arm around you. “WHEN we win, be sure not to be sore losers.”
You sigh in defeat as they leave, now the stakes were higher. You didn’t want to do things for Ramya and Ajay for a week! Let alone knowing that Octavio would literally never let you live it down. You look over at the green haired daredevil as he was eating the simple breakfast you had made. “Tavi, we gotta win now.” He chuckled and looked at you. “If we lose, you owe me a kiss.” You owed him what now? Your face must’ve said the same thing because he smirked. “Good incentive huh?” He teased. You just sipped your coffee with a gaze. “Maybe I don’t wanna win now.” You say softly, kind of hoping he heard but also not. He did though and his eyebrow quirked. He licked his lips, getting a little speck of food off. “Well well, don’t threaten me with a good time, Señorita.” God he was hot. You were no stranger to getting distracted by him during matches, he was always laying down casual flirts to you but you assumed that was towards most people, like how Elliott flirts with everyone.
Wasn’t long til the match began. Octavio was laying it on thick, if you had slipped up or got knocked he would wink and say things like;
“Wow someone really wants that kiss.”
“Come on, Chica. I know you want to kiss me but this is a bit much.”
“Should I kiss you now so you keep up?”
All of it was NOT helping you with this ordeal. Soon enough though you hear the announcement of
3 REMAINING SQUADS.
You take a breath and heal up from the last fight you just finished, looking at Octane with a grin. “Hey we might actually win this thing!” You say excitedly. He nods and snaps a selfie with you. “Maybe you should kiss me if we win. How ‘bout that speedster?” You tease and he laughs a bit. “Like I said before. Don’t threaten me with a good time, hermosa.”
You cocked your head a bit, asking what that meant and he ignored you. As he ran off to find the last couple squads. You roll your eyes and follow in suit. All and all you didn’t win and Ramya and Ajey had, they were cheering and happily teasing you two for just barely losing. If Octane hadn’t rushed in when Ramya was downed he wouldn’t have gotten himself killed. You sighed and made your way back to the ship to return home. Octavio returning soon enough himself.
It was awkwardly silent between you two as the whole group returned, you both walked towards the winning duo, who both has smiles plastered onto their faces. “Don’t worry mates, we don’t have anything planned just yet. Enjoy your freedom for now!” Ramya patted both you and Octavio’s back and pushed you along. You two chuckled and you sighed a bit “I’m so nervous to find out what they have in mind for us.” Octavio shrugged and looked over at you “Eh I wouldn’t stress about it, Cariño. Whatever they come up with won’t be the worst thing.” You look at him, yet another nickname you don’t understand.
You don’t even bother trying to ask because you figured he wouldn’t tell you anyways. You sigh once again and rub the back of your neck. “You ok? Sore or something?” He asks with concern, looking right where you just massaged. “Yeah kind of. My neck is bugging me.” You admit and soon you feel two hands on your shoulder and where the base of your neck is. You let out a breath of relief as you started to feel the knots surface and loosen under his touch. Surprisingly he was really good at massages. You let out soft sounds of pleasure due to the tense muscles finally being worked on. “Oh my gosh Tavi..” you whisper out. What you didn’t see it the pink flush under his mask, the sounds he’s getting out of you was getting to him, his core beginning to heat up and his shorts slowly getting tighter, he felt dirty and a little ashamed his body reacted to something so innocent.
Soon enough he stopped and chuckled a bit “Yeahhh I kind of got magic hands Y’know?” He wiggled his fingers by his face, smirking in a silly way along with it, making you laugh a bit. There was a moment where you both kind of just looked at each other in silence, you catch him glance at your lips and back onto your eyes, you did the same thing. You heart skips a little when you see him leaning towards you, only to be interrupted by Elliott coming literally out of nowhere. “HEY! You guys almost had it! Good game.” He held out two fists for you guys to bump knuckles and you jump from the sudden voice and happily give him what he was lookin’ for. Can’t leave him hangin like that. He smiled and put his hands on his hips. “Well what you guys have planned? Anything fun? Can I come? I’m not doing anything and if you need some company I’d love to join you… I’m really bored.” He admitted his true intentions that he just wants some buddies to hang with and you both chuckle.
“We don’t have anything specific planned, just chillin until we gotta go do something.” You typically had a conference with paparazzi and interviewers after games but today it was scheduled for later so you’d all go get dinner afterwards. Elliott shrugged a bit and the three of you just hung out, Elliott being the metaphorical ‘cock block’ for Octavio. He unintentionally stayed close to you throughout the hangout session before you guys split off from Elliott to head to each of your rooms. Octavio sighed a bit and ran his hand through his hair “Well chica, as sad as it is we must depart from each other to go get fancier than I’d like.” He chuckled a bit before taking your hand and placing a kiss on your knuckles. “See ya!” He winked and ran off towards his room.
Once he was behind his closed door he ran his hands over his face, sighing. A lot was going through his mind, well more than usual. His attraction to you was gonna get him in trouble if he wasn’t careful. He tried to distract himself and actually make himself presentable for this press conference thingie that he hardly enjoyed going to. Only thing he enjoyed was his fans seeing him and interacting with him. At least he would see you dolled up right?
Oh God. He was gonna see you dolled up.

Good evening everyone, and welcome back to Fanfic Friday!
Today we're spotlighting Longfic: those multi-chapter fanfics that take you (and the characters) on an entire journey, with time for ups and downs and everything in between.
We can't possibly talk about long-running Blackbright fics without giving a shout-out to Meowzy (@renegadewangs), whose 5-part spy-thriller series Phantoms and Mirages series easily crosses 500,000 words-- it single-handedly takes up five of the top six spots for the longest Blackbright fics!-- but today we'd also like to spotlight a less-well-known story, The Difference Between a Chain and an Anchor by AssistedRealityInterface.
At fourteen chapters and almost 40,000 words, it's the length of a short novel, and delves into what might have happened at the end of Dual Destinies if Bobby had been held hostage by the Phantom and were able to be rescued and return home afterwards. It's a wonderful character piece, and I'd also recommend it to fans of Aura Blackquill, as well.

The Two-Tails jumps to the guard, who evades and sends dagger after dagger at her body. They pierce into her chakra covered body, but do nothing to deter her attacks.
The blue cat jumps and runs after the guard, who has to evade with sharp movements that look desperate and out of control. The moment he realizes Naruto is charging toward him too, he can feel his heart in his throat.
This is worse than he had been told.
His hands move fast and he mutters the seals under his breath with desperation. Faster, faster. The ground shakes and his breathing is already labored. He barely evades the Two-Tails who lunges at him before he can bite at his thumb, draw blood and call forth his hawk summon.
Naruto brings forward his skeleton claw and slaps the summon away. The bird shrieks and stands immediately after, and the Two-Tails is already on its tail.
The guard looks up at the Nine-Tails and Naruto steals the quickest glance he can muster, before he remembers he can't look the guard in the eye.
He’s a child.
He’s the same boy that made him lose control in the Summit.
“Oh.” It’s the only thing that leaves his mouth. His red chakra shoots forward and grabs the boy, pinning him to the ground. There is a cloud of smoke that signals a body replacement technique. But Naruto scoffs, and as he looks towards the Four-Tails, lo and behold, the boy is there, grabbing the old man by his scalp and forcing eye contact.
The Two-Tails comes back, with the giant summon in her mouth. The bird looks worse for wear and as soon as the Four-Tails starts emerging she drops it to the ground.
“I’ll take care of it.”
“You sure?”
The monkey-looking Beast roars as it frees itself from his vessel. His hands playing drums on the ground.
“You can come help me after you’re done with the child.”
She flashes in front of his eyes before he can even answer. Her Beast is smaller, but it only makes it easier for her to cut and hit before the monkey can retaliate.
The boy jumps back, hoping to put some distance between himself and-
“Hey!”
Naruto has the biggest smile in place, the look of distress on the child only making him more euphoric.
“You think your friends will come when you scream?”
A red claw flies past the boy, who manages to dodge it. He gives a quick glance to the Four-Tails, but the Beast is too busy swatting away at the Two-Tails, whose blue Beast runs and dodges the monkey’s attacks with ease.
Fuck.
Naruto sends red claw after red claw as he comes closer, and the boy can’t do much but keep his eyes focused on evading the bubbling red chakra.
If only he could make direct eye contact-
He is too concentrated on evading the red claws that come at him one after the other. The Nine-Tails’ skeleton claw snatches him middair, squeezing his body and making him scream to the sky.
“Oooh, that’s a good one,” Naruto crushes the boy against a tree, the skeleton claw grabbing the trunk and digging into it. “You think they’ll come fast?”
The boy doesn’t answer. Can’t answer. The Nine-Tails pushes him into the tree, and he can feel his bones cracking under the pressure.
Naruto stares at the legs of the child. His screams fill the air but there seems to be no movement near them. The guards have begun filling the place, but they keep their distance, moving closer to their lady than Naruto.
If the enemy doesn’t come now where there is still a sliver of surprise in their favor…
“Come on,” Naruto urges, as a chakra claw engulfs the kid’s leg. The boy grunts as he gets used to the tension in his body, but then Naruto snaps his leg in half and a shrill scream reverberates around them.
Naruto expects something to happen. Wants something to happen. But aside from the boy’s huffing and puffing, and the whines that follow, nothing comes.
The boy falls to the ground and he can’t even try to get up before the Nine-Tails is on top of him. The man holds one of his arms with his feet and the other with his knee. The boy looks at the Nine-Tails directly into his face, dribble falling from his mouth as the pain grows with each passing second. The Nine-Tails’ eyes stubbornly fixed into the boy’s chest.
“You monster,” the boy spits.
Naruto punches the boy, his hand then rips the child’s cloak for a makeshift blindfold. “Go on, when are they coming?” Naruto punches him again, his frustration growing. “You think they’ll care if you die?”
“You- You-” The boy sputters, but Naruto has had it. He covers the boy’s mouth with his hand and then covers his eyes with the broken piece of cloak.
“Fucking-” Naruto starts again, “you wanted us all here, didn’t you? Here we are, fucking come.”
The boy tries to bite his hand but Naruto presses his knee into his stomach. “Shut the fuck up.” He calls for a couple of guards and hands the kid over to them without a care for his injuries.
“Don’t let him get away, don’t take his blindfold off, and don’t give him away to anyone but me, got it?”
The guards salute Naruto before moving the boy out of his sight, his legs dragging on the ground.
The Two-Tails slides as she jumps away from the Four-Tails, his palm strikes near her and the sound is enough to make her wince.
“Need any help?”
The Nine-Tails doesn’t wait for an answer as he walks forward. He grabs debris near him and launches it at the monkey.
“Stay away,” shouts Naruto, “this will get rowdy.”
The Four-Tails raises his arms to protect himself from the falling rocks, grabs a few to send back to the Nine-Tails. The fox is in the middle of covering his skeleton with red bubbly chakra, and the Four-Tails screeches and throws whatever he can get his hands on to the now forming Beast.
Naruto concentrates on forming his four-tailed form, and grabs the debris launched at him with chakra claws that spring from whatever part of his body is closest to the rubble.
It has been a long while since he was able to reach this form without his father or Jiraiya watching over. Their instructions resonate inside of him, and Naruto’s body is now buried deep down into the Nine-Tails body.
Four tails are enough. Four tails he can manage.
The Four-Tails beats the ground with its hands before screeching and lunging itself at the red Beast.
Naruto raises on his hind legs, launches a claw to the monkey’s head and roars as the hit connects. His mouth opens and he concentrates chakra in front of him, a black orb that makes shrill noises as the energy accumulates.
The monkey thrashes under him, bringing its hands and feet to the Nine-Tails head, feet, whatever it can catch. The moment Naruto is about to set off his attack the monkey twists around and manages to cover the Nine-Tails mouth with its arm.
The two Beasts thrash about and the ground trembles.

The Beasts roar and screech at each other and the destruction brought by their fight reaches even the other side of the forest.
“Lord Naruto’s four tails form.” Ino can’t help but steal a glance at him, the red chakra bubbles everywhere and his beast bomb shoots up to the sky as the Four-Tails hand manages to cover the Nine-Tails’ snout.
The clouds disperse and the air that whooshes out of the fight is enough to rattle the birds nearby.
“Are we close yet?” Lord Gaara asks. His sand following right behind him.
“Just a little more,” Shino confirms.
Ino takes her gaze away from the lord’s fight, empties her mind as they get closer and closer to their objective.
She has one shot at this.
“Rest assured, I will help.” Lord Gaara keeps his face blank as always, but his voice is filled with reassurance and Ino nods at him.
“At our four o’clock, 700 meters ahead,” shares Shino and everyone becomes quieter. Their steps softer against the ground and branches they use to advance.
“Ready?” Temari steps next to Ino, her fan on her hands. The weapon is long enough to reach below her knees when attached at her back, and is now semi-open, ready to call forth her summon and level the trees in front of them.
Ino brings her hands together, making a triangle. She breathes out, stares in the direction Shino shared. “Whenever Lord Gaara is ready.”
“I have one in reach right now,” he answers, his sand following one of the enemies hidden in the forest, almost touching their heels.
Temari opens her fan and the group spreads to give her space. Her bloody thumb swaps at her weapon and her hand does seals as she mutters the names under her breath. “Incoming!” she screams, as she fans the air in front of her, where her summon starts cutting down everything and anything it touches.
They hope her scream will give the enemy a chance to evade her attack and let survivors in its wake. But Gaara frowns as two of the ones near his sand fall down, unable to stand again.
His sand searches, his chakra touching and prodding as they enter the clearing Temari has made. “There,” he whispers, his sand keeping an enemy in place, mouth covered in sand, limbs unable to move.
He turns his head to Ino, to let her know who’s ready for her technique, but her body lays limp against Sai’s chest and Gaara lets his sand go the second after.
Shino and Sai leave immediately after. Temari stays as Gaara brings forth his One-Tail in the open, sending attacks to the many enemies running away from this place. Ino follows behind the enemy, now one of them, and Gaara does his best to keep her away from his attacks.
Soon after, Gaara’s attacks become mere sounds and the Nine-Tails heat is but a mirage.
Ino blends into the group as they begin to congregate again. And she follows.

Ino mimics the behaviour around her. They don’t talk much and they keep on the move with barely a break.
They whisper, worried about what happened back there.
Sasuke couldn’t even put up a fight, they whisper.
Did the boss know he was leaving Sasuke behind when he ordered them to retreat?
Did you see that Beast?
The Nine-Tails…
Monsters. Monsters all of them.
Ino stores all and every bit of information she catches on. She chimes in when necessary, and her presence remains dull and unnoticed.
They keep on moving.
You think the other group succeeded?
Sure as hell hope so, or this whole thing was for nothing.
Ino wonders whether to stop her technique now and inform her lord, but her orders are different, so she stays.
They run, and they run some more. To a place where the clans have little power, to a place where no one really comes. There are 12 of them when they arrive. 7 died, as she learns from the people around her. She commits every detail she can to memory. She focuses on the names and faces around her.
She comes into a practice ground and sees red eyes. She has to fight the urge to look away.
A man comes to her and asks her why she has taken so long to report. She apologizes and follows, she rummages inside this brain for knowledge she can present.
She wonders if their leader will realize she’s a spy the moment they lay eyes on her.
She has practiced her movements, she has practiced her speech. She is one more of them, and although she is nervous she steels herself and gives her report to a man whose face is buried in papers.
She waits for him to dismiss her. No one around her says nothing about her demeanor, no one around her stares at her too long. They keep on their chores, moving papers, and whispering plans in front of their boss.
The man in front of her nods to no one in particular and waves his hand once for her to leave. Ino bows like she has seen others do and turns around. The man hasn’t looked at her.
“Wait.”
She does as told.
“Turn around.”
Red eyes greet her, and although she very much would like to evade his gaze. She paints a confused look on her face. “Yes, boss?”
The man looks old like Lord Minato, his eyes are redder than most and the black markings inside circle around, making her dizzy.
“Who are you?”
He’s tall too, tall like Lord Jiraiya.
“Boss, I don’t-”
The man brings his hand to her neck and Ino chokes on her saliva. Her hands clasp at his arm in an attempt to release his hold, but he doesn’t let go.
“Interesting technique, body exchange or mind exchange, huh?” His hand presses harder and Ino starts to lose consciousness. “A member of the Kirikage’s? the Okosu? the Yamanaka?”
The man lets her go and Ino coughs into the ground, her eyes filled with tears.
“Doesn’t matter, go tell your master what you’ve seen.” His eyes are full of contempt, of arrogance, “I do hope your technique handles the mind, child, I really do.”
His fist comes down to her head, chakra enveloping his limb and Ino wakes into her own body, coughing and clasping at her neck in pain.
“My lord!” she coughs in between, still feeling the man’s hand wringing her neck, “my lord the clan- an attack.”
Sai helps her steady herself, his hand at her torso. He brings his own waterskin to her lips. Her lord is a few meters away, all menacing and intimidating.
“See? Now you know I’m telling the truth.”
In front of Lord Naruto stands a man with straight black hair in a low ponytail, his voice soft, his stance unassuming. The lord refuses to look the man in the eyes and Ino avoids his eyes immediately after.

~Kurama~Main Story Chapter 25~Part 1
I really feel like this game was suppose to be a yaoi but in the end they changed it!

Kurama: “I suppose, when you know someone for a long time, you can sense him acting different.”
(Kurama...?)
Before long, the heat smoldering in the depths of Kurama’s eyes made my heart beat wildly.
His face slowly approaches------
Kurama: “Yoshino, what the hell did you do in front of that man?”

Kurama: “You have a habit of playing with men without being aware of it. I don’t trust you.”
I look away, as Kurama stares at me suspiciously.
(Nn....)
Kurama: “Tch, whatever.”
After a small click of his tongue, Kurama turned again to Yoritomo-sama and Kagetoki-san.
Kurama: “Anyway, let me give you my opinion on the war against the Court.”
(I can’t believe Kurama has an opinion on human warfare....)
Yoritomo: “I’m all ears.”
We all gulped and listened to Kurama’s opinion.
And an hour or so later, our meeting comes to an end....
Kagetoki: “Then the plan is that way. I’ll get on with the preparations.”
Yoritomo: “I’ll leave that to you. Yoshino. I know you’re tired but you’re going to have to work some more.”
Yoshino: “Yes. I’m ready. I know I attacked some of the Shogunate and the Rebels soldiers...I’m ready to make up for that.”
Kagetoki: “No one has died. It’s a waste of time to think of imaginary atonements.”
Yoritomo: “The soldiers who witnessed it knew that you were shouting at them not to come closer. They might have been frightened, but that will eventually go away when they see you in your usual self. We just have to wait patiently.”
(Kagetoki-san, Yoritomo-sama....)
Kurama: “It’s not your fault if you hurt someone. Rather, I’m amazed you were able to endure that horrible spell.”
Yoshino: “When I was at my limit, Kurama came to me. That’s why.”
Kurama: “.......”
Our gazes intertwined and I looked away, feeling embarrassed.
Kurama: “Hey, why are you looking away?”
Yoshino: “Mm...nothing....”
(Don’t ask me that...)
Kagetoki: “The air around them feels warm, right?”
Yoritomo: “Yeah. I was surprised when Kurama asked me to help him. So this was the reason.”
(Don’t tell me they already know!?)
Kurama: “What are you talking about?”
Yoritomo: “We are talking about your illicit love affair with our Yoshino.”
Kurama: “Oh that, there’s nothing illicit about it. It’s called ‘Mutual love’. I just discovered earlier today.”
Yoshino(blushing): “Wait!!!”
(We were supposed to be talking about something serious, but how did we end up talking this!?)
....And after telling our story, we each prepared for the final battle.

Meanwhile--------
At the main camp of the Imperial Court, Yasuchika, sitting facing Ibuki and Akihito.
Yasuchika: “....This was not supposed to happen.”
Ibuki: “You can’t deny that it happened. Is there something wrong?”
Yasuchika: “You’ve seen it. It was perfect. It’s not something that can be solved by the willpower alone. To read the wavelengths of human is perfectly impossible even for Tamamo, who is skilled in the art of conjuring.”
Akihito: “Maybe Kurama or Yoshino underwent a big change.”
------Part 2-------
Akihito: “Maybe Kurama or Yoshino underwent a big change.”
Ibuki: “Big change, huh? Anyway, the only thing left to do would be a night raid.”
Ibuki shrugs uninterestingly.
Ibuki: “I don’t think he’s got much left in his tank. We should not wait for him to recover, we should fold him up. Also, the little fox is useless when she’s exhausted. The trouble is, they know what we’re going to do anyway.”
As if he had expected Ibuki’s answer, Akihito smiled softly.
Akihito: “Well then, we have to try harder, even though it’s a muddy way.”
Yasuchika: “......................”
................
(The time has finally come.)
Kurama: “I knew you’d be waiting for me anyway.”
Ibuki: “It’s a pleasure to live up to your expectations. Yoshino, nice to see you too.”
Yoshino: “......Ibuki.”
While the Shogunate intercepted the night raids of the Imperial Court’s soldiers.
Kurama and I were out of the party and were approaching the main camp of the Imperial Court.
(To be honest, I still shudder at the thought of fighting Ibuki. But...)
(We can’t lose for the sake of everyone who’s fighting right now!)
Ibuki: “You’re surprisingly a great woman for not falling in despair at my tricks, you know? Apparently, I lost our game.”
Yoshino: “That’s because I had Kurama help me.”
Ibuki: “I’m jealous of that.”
After muttering in a tone of voice that could be a joke or serious, Ibuki pulls out the greatsword on his back.
Ibuki: “Are we playing the same game again? Didn’t you two learn that your duo can’t beat me at all?”
Kurama: “You talk a lot. Why don’t you think it's because of that pride that Yoshino and I are standing here now?”
Ibuki: “I always enjoy playing seriously. No matter what the consequences.”
(It’s coming!)
Kurama’s fan splits the wind and Ibuki stabs the tip of his swords into the ground at the same time.
There was a crack in the ground and Kurama lifted me up softly and flew away.
Ibuki: “Thanks for the breeze.”
As Ibuki narrowly avoids the attack, Kurama stays in the air and creates countless blades of wind again.
Ibuki: “I knew it. You’re powerless.”
With those words, the blue light of thunderbolt approaches us-------
Kurama: “Yoshino.”
Yoshino: “Yes!”
(Lend me the power of the nine-tail fox.)
As soon as Kurama flapped his wings and deflected the light from its path, I held up my hand like he told me to.
Ibuki: “And? What are you doing there?”
(Nn....)
The golden dew rises at a slower rate than before.
(I’m worn out from using too many different powers.)
A second flash of light comes from Ibuki’s fingertips as he grips his sword.
Kurama struck it back with a spell-cast iron fan, but----
In no time at all, a third shot ripped through the pale night.
Ibuki: “You can’t start anything if keep preventing it.”
Tamamo: “That’s why I’m here.”
Ibuki: “.......!”
Without a sound, Tamamo appears behind Ibuki and thrusts a silver ornamental sword at his back.
(Yayy....?)
Tamamo: “Sand....”
A small shield of sand blocked the cut that was meant to pierce his back.
Kurama: “Get away!”
--------Part 3--------
Kurama: “Get away!”
Ibuki appears again, just barely slashing Tamamo, who jumped backward on his hind legs.
Tamamo: “I used to be good at disguising signs and mirages.”
Ibuki: “It’s still hard to tell, but if you know it’s coming, you can predict it. With Yoshino’s help, you restored some of your power back. I thought this would be a perfect time destroy both Kurama and Yoshino.”
(I can’t believe you’ve read that much....)
Kurama: “Don’t hold back unless you want to fall prey to Ibuki’s attacks.”
Tamamo: “My my.”
Tamamo and Kurama simultaneously create a foxfire and a blade of wind to pin Ibuki down.
Ibuki: “Well well, it’s getting exciting, isn’t it?”
A breathless exchange of slashes and spells.
(Kurama’s guidance is all I can manage to take away from the spell.....)
Ibuki: “How long can the stalemate last?”
Tamamo: “The more Yoshino takes away your power, the more power I have. In that sense, the balance will be broken sooner or later, won’t it?”
Ibuki: “Can Yoshino and Kurama even hold it that long? I think not.”
Yoshitsune: “----I disagree with that.”
Ibuki: “!!”
A figure gallops in on a horse, kicks the back of the horse vigorously, and rushes at Ibuki with the force of his landing.
(Yoshitsune-sama!)
Before I knew it, the sword had been pulled out and was glittering in the moonlight, creating a wind blade.
Yoshitsune: “Kurama!”
Kurama: “Don’t rush. I don’t need to be told what to do.”
As he says this, Kurama is already waving his iron fan.
Ibuki: “....................”
Annoyed, Ibuki jumped back and avoided the wind blade from the both of them.
He was distracted by a foxfire which he had just avoided, and a transparent vortex tore Ibuki’s kimono thinly.
(Wow! We did it without any meetings!)
Kurama: “Faster than I expected, Yoshitsune.”
Yoshitsune: “That’s why I came quickly.”
Ibuki asks suspiciously keeping his distance.
Ibuki: “Have you been in touch with Yoshitsune tonight? The main body of the Rebel army must pass close to the Imperial Court from here. It must be difficult to even get messengers back and forth.”
Yoshitsune: “I didn’t get any message from Kurama asking for me. I’m only here on my own because I can’t move my troops behind the Court’s eyes.”
Yoshitsune-sama points his sword at Ibuki while talking with an expressionless face.
Ibuki: “So why did you come here?”
Yoshitsune: “I felt like Kurama was hurt.”
Kurama: “.................”
Yoshitsune takes one look at Kurama and see how badly he is hurt.
The amethyst eyes turned to Ibuki with a murderous glint.
Yoshitsune: “At last we finally meet, Shuten Doji. It seems you have taken care of my friend really well.”
Ibuki: “Friend?”
Tamamo: “You underestimated Kurama, Ibuki. Did you think he wouldn’t have friends? While you’ve been treating him like a baby, Kurama has been going his own way.”
(I was surprised when the name of Yoshitsune-sama came up in Kurama’s plan...)
Memories of our conversations in the main camp of the Shogunate were revived.
--------FLASHBACK---------
Kurama: “Even if I don’t call him, Yoshitsune will come to me. His soul is closer to that of a demon. He’ll surely be able to trace the familiar traces of my magic.”
Kagetoki: “What if he doesn’t?”
Kurama: “I’ll do the opposite.”
------FLASHBACK ENDS------
(It happened exactly how Kurama told us.)
Without looking at Yoshitsune-sama, Kurama opens his mouth.
Kurama: “Do you know what I’m thinking now, Yoshitsune?”

rules: it’s time to love yourselves! choose your 5 (ish) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
1. Infinity Moments (Gen, Avengers) — This collection of 1k-ish One-Shots only exists in German and there’s no translated version of it. I started that one directly after Infinity War came out and my usual go-to when canon fucks with my emotions, is to write gen fics, either missing scenes or canon scenes with character POV. The latter is what I did with this collection. I never actually finished all the One-Shots I wanted to do though, so I picked it up at the beginning of this year again, to finish at least the 5 most important POV’s of all the many more I had planned, regardless that Endgame had already happened. The reason why it’s my favorite is because of this OS. It’s Nat’s POV and I am very proud how well I managed to nail her character down. Everyone who knows me, knows I love this woman to pieces, and writing her with such a good grasp on her character was absolutely exhilarating. I am incredibly proud of that one single short 1k I wrote in her POV. As well as Tony in the last chapter. (And Bruce and Stephen, but I wrote those back in 2018 already.) Her OS is the reason I sometimes think about translating this collection into English too, but since Endgame came out long ago and certain things turned out to be different than I thought, not to mention that the mood just doesn’t fit anymore, since it’s post-IW, it will stay on FF.de only.
2. Le cirque des mirages (T, IronHawk) — This Shot happened in a rush of sudden motivation I didn’t have for a long while. I wrote the whole 3k in both languages in only 3 days (with normal sleeping schedule!), which is incredibly fast for a slow writer like me. And sure, while there are some paragraphs I’m not 100% happy with, I’m generally proud of how I wrote Tony and Clint and their dynamic together. I love the kind of mellow, sad-ish yet ‘young love’ mood I set here and how I put everything together. It’s a lovely short but emotional story and I’m really proud of it.
3. In Another Time (T, WinterIron) — I wrote that one just recently for the start of the WinterIron week and it was the story that kicked me out of my writer’s block and finally motivated me to write again. (Here a special shout-out to Sesil, thanks to her I only actually managed to start on t!) It was only my second time I tried myself on a moodboard and while I struggled real hard with putting one together (another thank you at Sesil <3), the end result turned out very pretty. The board absolutely fits the mood of the fic and I really love how both turned out. It didn’t get nearly as much reaction as I expected it to and yes, while I’m a little disappointed in that, it doesn’t change the fact that I personally love this story. I love the way I wrote it and the mood I set and the way I told this story, which could be 50k long, in just 1k without missing anything important. And I’m very much proud of all that.
4. Moodboard for On Crossing Paths (M, WinterIron) — Look, I will definitely re-write this story one day, since the fic didn’t turn out as I wanted it to at all. But the moodboard? God, I love that one. It’s a beautiful one and it sets exactly the mood I wanted to have for the fic. This board deserves a better fic and one day it will get one.Not to mention that I still very much love the idea behind the fic.
5. Moodboard for an untitled fic idea (M (probably), WinterIron) — Some months back I had a sudden idea for a BuckyTony fic I didn’t know how to write yet. That idea wouldn’t leave me alone and I annoyed my friends over DM’s endlessly. But I didn’t know how to approach this fic (and still don’t know), so I couldn’t write it yet. Which is why after a suggestion from one of those friends I annoyed (thanks Ana <3) I sat down and tried myself on my first moodboard, to get that idea at least somehow out of my system. Which took me forever and only resulted in me annoying my friends even more (I’m sorry guys, I love you <3). And I managed it finally after a week or so working non-stop on it. Is it my best board? Lol, no. But it’s my first one and it did help me to get that idea out of my system, so it’d stop occupying my thoughts every single day. And it got a lot of positive reactions on top of it, which makes me even prouder for it. :)
+1 Honorary mention to Prince of The Universe, King of Our Hearts (Gen, Iron Fam) — I started that OS forever ago and technically planned it to finish it on Tony’s birthday (lol, I know). It’s still not finished. I don’t know when I’ll finally finish it, but I’ll take all the time I need, so that the end result is exactly perfectly the way I want it to. It’s a canon compliant OS, written entirely in the POV of all the people who love Tony and full with space metaphors, to a point this story is more metaphors than story—which is also the reason why it takes me so long to write on it. It has a beautiful, mellow kind of pace and once it’s finally finished, it will be the best fic I have ever written. I am really, really proud of what I have done with it so far. But it’s a difficult piece of writing—for my standard at least—and it will take time.

Youtou Shinnoken: Demon Sword Chapter 56: Living Sin (Part 8)
Likka Ikumi and Natsuki Shinkai deal with the Karasu and Kuronue tandem. The Oniwabanshu with Kuwabara deal with Gein and the Omyouji.
Hiei and Kurama deal with Usui as well.

At the Okushiri Airport...
Natsuki Shinkai freed herself from Kuronue's tight chains, increasing their velocity even while at rest by focusing and infusing her unique reiki unto them.
Kuronue barely dodged the bullet-fast broken chain shrapnel along with the follow-through Kousa Dageki (Cross Strike) strike and thrust combo that nearly crushed his skull and/or put a hole in his trachea.
Or maybe he didn't. Maybe he got hit after all. And killed.
However, the next thing Natsuki knew, he was about 6 feet or 2 meters away from her, none the worse for wear. As though she had hit and killed a mirage.
Damn. That was close.
They were currently inside the flaming remnants of a 747 cargo plane that Karasu had earlier blown up along with the rest of the airport.
Yes, Natsuki Shinkai could be as softhearted as Kurama in that she wouldn't indiscriminately kill her enemies. However, when she was pushed far enough, she could be every bit as cruel as the Youko.
Especially if she thought you deserved it. Like her father, Feng Xinhai, attempting to kill Daiji Matsudaira with a half-formed supercell of a tornado.
Apparently, a simple humiliating parry of her best friend's flying kick was enough to send her to the edge.
Figuring out what Kuronue meant by Natsuki's limits, Kuronue started blasting the remaining buildings and planes of the decimated Okushiri Airport.
Even though she could redirect the explosions or even rubble away from herself, the mindful Natsuki kept her barrier down against the high-speed shards of earth and glass for fear of accidentally deflecting it against nearby civilians or her friend, Likka Ikumi.
"Dammit," she cursed as she concentrated hard to deflect the individual rubble and debris at only Karasu and Kuronue in order to protect Ikumi.
"I think I understand her weakness now," said Karasu, who sneered and produced Clamshell Shrapnel Bombs for good measure. "She's only as powerful as the attacks directed at her! She also needs to concentrate hard to manipulate the direction and trajectory of a multitude of objects coming at her simultaneously or else there'll be collateral damage!"
"That's right. She can't deflect multiple things at the same time!" said Kuronue, who easily maneuvered through the raining debris, metal shrapnel, glass, and rubble in order to attack Natsuki with them, knowing that she could only dodge and couldn't return fire with any effective offense of her own.
The demons attacked simultaneously at two fronts, which kept Shinkai from focusing her psionic redirection powers properly.
Natsuki held on remarkably well though, redirecting the flying rock shards at both demons while using Hawatari (Sword Halt) and Hadome (Sword Crossing) at the supersonic Kuronue's attempts at stabbing her and making her mess up her concentration.
"Ahhh!" Likka cried out in pain as several bits of shrapnel hit her on the thigh and abdomen.
There were too many bullet-fast objects chaotically shooting at every direction and at different speeds for Shinkai to properly take account of and deflect.
"Likka-tan! I'm sorry!" shouted a tearful Natsuki, only for Kuronue to aim for her neck with his scythe. She then faced her attacker and said, "Fine. You want me to kill you? Then I will!"
She proceeded to do what Kuronue claimed she couldn't do, which was to reverse the flow of his blood in one direction, leading his head swell and burst like a balloon.
A second Kuronue appeared right behind the deceased one, his blade at the ready. "Whoa. Those are some frightening powers, child."
'What the hell was going on anymore?' thought Natsuki as the tip of the sickle cut through her stomach.
Karasu then threw a new grenade at Natsuki, who attempted to deflect it only for it to explode in her face.

Chapter 56: Living Sin (Part 8)

At Nabetsuru Rock...
The Nabetsuru (Pot Handle) Rock was a tourist destination off of the coast of Okushiri Island. It was a rock formation visible across the shores of Okushiri with the appearance of a pot handle.
Speaking of pots, the water surrounding the rock soon boiled, steamed, and bubbled like water inside a pot being heated by a stove. Something was afoot.
The half-healed zombie corpse body of Usui Uonuma was still licking his wounds from his defeat against Hajime Saito when one of the ferry-girls located him off of Nabetsuru Rock and informed the Reikai Senshi (Spirit World Warriors) of the fact.
Shikigami from Houji had gathered around him to present him with enough spiritual power to restore his body to seeming health.
It was weird how jaki (negative energy) of all things could heal him, but he knew his body was really more of a corpse and he was more of a vengeful ghost than a reincarnated spirit.
He knew and he didn't care. He'd cling to existence by any means necessary after it was nearly snuffed out by Makoto Shishio and "permanently" ended by Hajime Saito.
Usui had by then reconnected his body's top half with his bottom half, but his fatal wounds were still tender and his broken spine was still in bad shape.
The Spirit World Warriors were really hammering their forces down, weren't they?
A few minutes later and there he was: Jaganshi (Evil Eye User) Hiei.
Probably the second or third most powerful member of the Reikai Senshi, behind Kenshin Himura (with his inimitable Demon Sword) and Yusuke Urameshi (the direct descendant of one of the Three Kings of Makai, Raizen).
Usui smirked, opened his mouth, and licked his lips.
This was now a battle between the Shingan (True Eyes) and the Jagan (Evil Eyes).
The blind swordsman turned spearman zombie wondered about something. If he had Jine Udo's Jagan on one eye socket and Hiei's Jagan on his other eye socket, would he finally gain the power he needed to usurp the likes of Tenro? Or the Chojin?
Or Shishio?
'Same difference.'
He remembered how his supernatural Tinbe shield grew thick enough to stop even the ultimate attacks of both a super-powered Kenshin and Saito, which in turn allowed his Rochin to penetrate anything weaker and less dense than his Tinbe.
If he had the power of one Jagan to hypnotize people and another Jagan to gain control of huge amounts of demonic energy, he'd be unstoppable: The most powerful Shin Ju who possessed both superhuman senses and supernatural powers.
'But first thing's first,' Uonuma thought, noticing the fewer number of shinigami (death gods) assisting his healing as Hiei approached his perch on the unusual rock at dangerous speeds.
The sea seemingly parted in twain from the jaganshi's flashing steps as though he were a mix of a miniature speedboat and Moses himself parting the Red Sea like theater curtains.

There were too many of them. There was a suffocating amount if multiplying Iwanbos there as well as shikigamis who fed them jaki.
The combination of Houji "Onmyouji (Occult Priest)" Sadojima and Edward "The Puppet Master" Gein (also known as Dr. Shoji Sugino from Unit 731) were too much for this batch of Reikai Senshi to handle.
That was the simple conclusion that the Spirit World Warriors and the Oniwabanshu (Garden Keepers) had when fighting against the armies of undead Iwanbo and shikigami spirits from both of the Chojin's top generals/captains.
Like the Roku Youkai (Six Demons) on Mt. McKinley versus The Nameless Yatsume, the Reikai Tantei and the Oniwabanshu were flooded with Iwanbo versions 1, 2, and 3 and the shikigami they fed on for jaki and power ups, like this was an ecosystem teeming with predators and the Reikai Senshi were their prey.
Kuwabara had been chopping out reanimated puppets and familiars left and right with his twin Jigen Tou (Dimensional Sword) for almost an hour, only to end up sapped of energy.
He ended up with only one flickering Dimension Sword left as more and more of the puppet monsters appeared, multiplying by mitosis or something.
At the same time, he had to contend against Houji turning everything nearest him into fast-healing creatures like Toguro Ani, with their wounds or even pureed bodies healing instantly. Like nothing they did to them could faze them.
Gein, in turn, used his own unique jaki to supply the Chojin's necromancer with fresh corpses to bring to life.
The reincarnated Okashira (Boss) of the Oniwabanshu—Daiji Matsudaira (formerly Aoshi Shinomori) —fluidly maneuvered against the razors-sharp web of trip-wires that the World War II veteran mad scientist ninja known as Gein weaved with diamond-covered threads, only to be bull-rushed by the one Iwanbo Version 3 with the four arms: The Iwanbo Version 3.2.
The Iwanbo 3.2 had thus far trampled on all of the efforts of the Tokyo Oniwabanshu to take it down, whether it was through poison, fire, sword slashes, brute strength, or martial arts.
Like Shikijo, it got cross-slash scars from every part of its body, but it still kept moving, shrugging off the rain of kodachi Daiji produced as well as the pistol shots to the head (the police officer could conjure guns as well).
Kuwabara did notice how the monstrous puppet recovered as quickly as Toguro Ani while sporting the same ridiculous musculature of Toguro Ototo. 'Hiei and Kurama's investigations were true! That old ninja guy really was responsible for demonizing the Toguro Brothers!'
Meanwhile, Kuwabara desperately held on to his knife-sized Jigen Tou, willing it to existence even as he had to contend against an undead army of shikigami and Iwanbos.
He could summon a Rei-Ken (Spirit Sword) instead, but even a dimensional knife had more utility to it.
He sliced apart portals, warp gates, dimensions, space, and even the sky itself with the way his cuts remained in the air like cracks on glass, cutting through the guts of the zombie puppets down below and the ghoulish ghosts from up above.
Houji and Gein pushed him to the brink of using up all his spirit energy, which may then force him to use his own life force to keep on fighting (like what Yusuke did to take down Suzaku the first time they fought).
The Onmyouji sloppily sliced his scythe at Kuwabara, who then blocked the blade but his knees ultimately buckled against the weight of the Chojin's negative energy instead of the strength of the strike.
'Dammit, we're going to lose!'
The bowl-cut necromancer cackled and ranted, "This is the power of the Chojin! This is the power of the gods! You were no match from the start!"
As for the Aoshi Shinomori of the modern era, he threw every last kodachi he could muster at the charging Iwanbo 3.2, whose tackles were so impactful he turned even fellow Iwanbo and stray shikigami inside-out into road kill, ground beef, or ectoplasm.
Even after being turned into a knife holder sculpture or Julius Caesar after his assassination, the four-armed Iwanbo would not stop charging.
The tired Okashira ended up taking a knee. He willed himself to move away with his Water Flow Movement, but Dr. Sugino caught him off-guard from behind with razor-sharp thread that wrapped around and bit into his neck.
"Checkmate, Okashira. You killed me before, right? Well, let me return the favor."
Daiji struggled against the old man, surprised at how strong he was for his age, the piano wire digging deeper into his throat. They'd be both turned into mush by the rampaging Iwanbo 3.2, but only one of them would end up getting resurrected by the Onmyouji when all was said and done.
The air around them then changed as the ghosts of the Oniwabanshu rose again. However, something inside them changed. They exuded menace that wasn't there before.
Hannya, Shikijo, Hyottoko, and Beshimi rose up like zombies hungry for flesh.
"Don't you dare touch the Okaaashiiiraaa...!"

As Likka Ikumi—Misao Makimachi's Heisei reincarnation—went unconscious due to blood loss, she dreamed of what had happened earlier, when she was deemed a C-Level martial artist ninja girl while the rest of the people she knew from past and present ranked B-Level and higher instead.
"This isn't fair!" Likka complained to Yahiko Myojin. "You'd be B-Level too if you didn't have special powers yourself, you little brat!"
"Yeah, funny how that works. Even Cat Eyes got better superpowers than you and your quick costume changes! OW!" teased Yahiko before he got hit upside the head with Misao's patented flying kick.
"KECHO GIRI!" Ikumi screamed. "Grrr! I want superpowers too! I don't want to end up in the battlefield being some sort of liability to Uncle Jiji (Daiji) or Tsuki-chan (Natsuki)!
Yahiko then relented, "Jeez, Weasel-chan! Don't be upset about me being stronger than you. You only 'woke up' recently! But you're still the reincarnation of Makimachi Misao and yes, you're better at hand-to-hand combat than I am."
Likka paused then pouted. "Really, Yahiko-chan?"
Kenshin himself then said, "Misao-dono, I know that Shinomori Aoshi's talent might have blinded you of this fact, but shinobi (spies) are not known for their swordsmanship or strength. They're instead known for their cunning."
Natsuki herself interjected, "You are not a swordsman but a spy, Likka-tan. A ninja. A shadow warrior. You can take down a samurai many times more powerful than you by ambush and stealth. Use that."
Likka then woke up back at the Okushiri Airport, in time to see the miko (priestess) ferry-girl tending to her shrapnel wounds, removing the foreign objects and healing her body the best she could.
"Please, wake up! Please, hang on!" pleaded the shinigami known as Hinageshi.

Back at the Kyujimayama Observatory...
The combination of Houji the Onmyouji and Gein the Puppet Master was truly too much for Kazuma Kuwabara and the Oniwabanshu to handle.
Daiji Matsudaira then did the Jissen Kenbu (combining the Water Flow Movement with his one-handed kodachi strikes) to escape Dr. Sugino's wire-based grasp. The doctor was not as adept at pure ninjutsu as his Meiji Era counterpart.
However, Shoji's supernatural powers and modern scientific knowledge more than made up for his lack of physical prowess and skills.
However, just behind them, the transformed Oniwabanshu tore apart the four-armed Iwanbo 3.2 like a pack of wolves.
"Saaaave the Okashiraaa! At aaaall cooosts!"
Hannya. Shikijo. Hyottoko. Beshimi.
Again, their supposed Okashira had failed them and soiled their memories. Or this watered-down copper version of their Okashira living in the present Heisei Era did so.
These ghosts that served as Daiji's guardian angels from the death of his wife at the hands of Feng Xinhai to the present, when he discovered his dark destiny as being the reincarnation of the Last Oniwabanshu Okashira, were now forced to demonize themselves.
They abandoned their humanity and turned themselves into monsters in order to save Matsudaira.
Shikijo's muscles bulged and popped as his complexion turned grey or even metallic, with him grabbing one set of the Iwanbo's arms in order to stop him in his tracks.
Beshimi bit the Iwanbo with snake-like fangs and threw toxic spines growing from all over his body at him for good measure, the corrosive toxins directly seeping into the undead veins of the puppet monster.
Hyottoko turned into a full-on kappa youkai who breathed fire, toasting the creature from behind.
And finally, the tri-clawed Hannya mauled the Iwanbo repeatedly by slicing apart the veins of his other arms and ravaging him like a rabid wolverine.
The more they ripped apart the puppet, the more mindless they became. Like wild animals.
Houji chuckled at the display, letting his shikigami deal with the weakening Kuwabara for a change. "How would it feel if I brought your ghost friends back to life, Okashira? Alas, they'd end up as the Chojin's minions, but at least they'd be alive."
Meanwhile, Gein retreated and used his own knowledge of the dark arts in order to form a fresh new Iwanbo 3.2 puppet out of the spare parts of the discarded Iwanbo corpses.
No. Enough was enough.
The deceased Oniwabanshu had been haunting Aoshi's soul all this time, even a hundred years later in another body, because they felt like they had failed in protecting him when the opposite was instead true.
Time and time again, they'd saved him.
His blue eyes shining bright like twin stars on a clear night, Daiji's aura of reiki (spirit energy) flared to life and reacted to the youki (demonic energy) emanating from his former Oniwabanshu comrades.
He then started to absorb their dark energy unto himself, shouldering all their anger and feelings of failure unto his own body.
It was his failure and lack of strength that kept them anchored to him for so long, keeping them from passing on.
It was his turn to save them.
As Matsudaira absorbed more of their dark energy, the Oniwabanshu ghouls started to go back to normal. They were neither demons nor monsters any longer.
"Uh, what happened?" asked Shikijo.
"Beats me. I don't remember much," said Beshiimi.
"I feel hungry," said Hyottoko.
"You can't be hungry! You're a ghost!" admonished Hannya, who then turned towards Daiji's shadowy form. "It's the Okashira. He has saved us again, as usual!"
Daiji then went face-to-face against the Iwanbo 3.2, who had again started to cannibalize the corpses or even the "living" bodies of his undead puppet brethren as well as the nearby shikigami unto him.
To build his strength by feeding upon the weak just like Matsudaira did to his Oniwabanshu underlings' youki.
The Iwanbo Version 3.2 then charged at Matsudaira, with the pair of Houji and Gein close behind him.
"Kill the Okashira! Do so and we'll have this battle in the bag!" said Gein to his puppet.
"We might even be able to revive his soul and turn him into one of the Juppon Gatana," suggested Sadojima.
They were in for the shock of their lives.

Back at Nabetsuru Rock...
Jaganshi Hiei ran on water like Jesus Christ in a hurry then blasted the rock where the half-healed (or still-healing) Usui Uonuma lay with a Jaou-En-Satsu Kokuryuha (Dragon of Darkness Flame).
The fire demon didn't want to take any chances. However, as expected, Uonuma's Tinbe still remembered the sheer power of the most powerful strikes given to it by the Battousai and the Miburo.
Thusly, the dense adaptable shield survived even the atomic heat of the Makai flames from Hiei's deadliest attack, neutralizing it completely.
"Hn."
Usui answered that indignant harrumph with a chuckle. "And just like that, my Tinbe is now fireproofed as well as shock-absorbent. Is that your best shot, Jaganshi Hiei?"
Hiei then visually disappeared from Uonuma's midst, but the blind man couldn't even see him regardless, so he wasn't too worried.
Usui heard Hiei all the while though.
The blind spearman could only smile as he caught each and every slash or stab Hiei attempted to hit him with, deflecting them away like rain with his Tinbe umbrella.
Earlier, he was made aware that the Shin Ju had lost contact with Houji and Gein, which meant that there wasn't enough shikigami and jaki left to heal him fully.
However, he was an S-Level entity himself.
This meant that even though Uonuma didn't have the Onmyouji's assistance to restore his damaged body to health, he could damn well heal himself on his own. Not at the cancerous rate that the regenerative Toguro Ani could, but fast enough to count when the chips were down.
'I just need to buy myself a little bit more time,' Usui thought, blocking all of Hiei's sword strikes and countering them with his Rochin spear that was as irresistible as his Tinbe was impenetrable.
'Battousai's reports are accurate,' thought Hiei. 'This man is hard to kill, even without the powers of the Onmyouji aiding him and keeping him alive. Or at least undead.'
The two combatants jumped from the rock to the shore, their feet both using the waves and the surface tension of the saltwater to travel from that long distance.
Not once was Hiei able to scratch the injured man. Not with the Kokuryuha. Not with his blade.
However, the blind Shin Ju in turn wasn't fast enough to counter with his Rochin. He kept missing his kaeshi (ripostes) even though he parried or blocked all of the fire demon's physical attacks.
Getting behind Usui to stab him and avoid the shield didn't work because the spearman sensed the fire demon's presence every time and blocked accordingly.
However, thanks to Hiei's Jagan and his inborn twitch reflexes, the Rochin could not touch him in turn, no matter how badly he missed or got parried by the former bakufu swordsman turned Juppon Gatana member.
Perhaps it was because Usui was too injured. Or perhaps it was because he was too slow from the get go.
They seemed to be at an impasse.

"Ahhh!" Natsuki shrieked, her impenetrable deflection powers working against her, drawing the implosion towards her instead of away from her due to the nature of her reversal powers.
The crow demon smirked.
His experimental Pillbug Implosion Bomb was a success.
Shinkai predictably attempted to deflect it like Karasu's other bombs, but she did so by reversing its momentum. This made the bomb explode instead of implode unto itself.
The way Natsuki affected her environment was to use the inertia of the objects going towards her and reverse their momentum so that she didn't have to expend her spirit energy moving them away.
To reverse the momentum of an implosion bomb was to turn it into an explosive.
"Now, Kuronue! While you have the chance!"
Kuronue and his afterimage clones attacked Natsuki. Then, after several more Kuronues died out, one of them decapitated Natsuki with his scythe.
Game. Set. Match.
However, that Natsuki turned out to be a standee advertisement of a stewardess instead. Taken straight from the rubble.
"!?" intoned Kuronue, only to realize it was the Misao reincarnation who duped him into decapitating the decoy.
It was a classic ninjutsu trick. Substituting one object for another.
Karasu attempted to get rid of the troublesome onmitsu (ninja girl) with his variety of bombs, only to be greeted with a rain of kunai (ninja daggers) moving at every which way and direction, defying the laws of physics, gravity, and momentum.
He yelped as a dagger ended up in his eye, which would normally be weak enough for him to swat away. 'Where is that damned ninja...?!'
As for Kuronue and Natsuki, they were locked in a battle of wills and wits. Or perhaps a war of attrition.
For different reasons, both Shinkai and the bat demon ended up cleaving or crushing through dozens upon dozens of their respective "clones".
With Natsuki, they were illusions made by Likka. With Kuronue, it was still a mystery where his doppelgangers came from.
For every Kuronue clone that got beat up, head-crushed, stabbed, blinded, or disabled in some way, so too did every Natsuki clone suffer getting their limbs chopped off, their heads decapitated, and their bodies bisected horizontally or vertically.
The fading corpses of Shinkai and Kuronue that littered the landscape disappeared as soon as they fell.
"I don't care anymore!" the one-eyed Karasu threw implosion bombs at the pair's direction. "I'm sure you'll somehow survive this, Kuronue, but she won't!"
That was Likka's cue to detonate the bombs with her flung kunai, one of which ended up stuck unto Karasu's hand.
"...Fool! You fell into my trap!" said Karasu even as one of the implosions set him ablaze. He then took his mask off with his other hand in order to activate his Full-Body Implosion rather than Explosion. "Now to kill you to get rid of all these illusions!"
Likka then smirked before she shifted forms and turned into Natsuki.
"...What?!"
A flabbergasted Kuronue then spared a glance at the Natsuki he was fighting all that time. The bat demon chopped her up, only for her to turn into a stop sign.
"Since when were you under the impression that you were fighting Tsuki-chan?"
"Natsuki" then appeared behind him and turned him into a kunai holder. Sure enough, this "Natsuki" ended up being Likka in disguise instead, mimicking her friend all the while.
"I will not be a burden to Tsuki-chan any longer! I can help her out with my own special power! We can win against you two!" said Ikumi.
Thus was the power of the "C-Level" Likka Ikumi: Optical Illusion. Perfect Deception. Absolute Fantasy.
In other words, Genjutsu (Illusionary Techniques).
Her skills allowed her reiki to create mirages or hallucinations from her own imagination that, when used properly, could make even gods kneel and devils cry.
A special power that could beat even S-Levels to submission.
A power similar to that of the Kanji Killer and his hypnotic Jagan, but it involved projecting her imagination unto reality like realistic mirages instead of invading her opponent's psyche for them to see what she wanted them to see, thus she used up less reiki to do it.
"You've underestimated the both of us," said Shinkai, whose only injuries were from that one implosion bomb from Karasu that slipped through. "Now pay for your arrogance!"
Just as Karasu was about to explode and take both the girls with him to kingdom come, Yutaro Tsukayama's female reincarnation reflected and focused all that potential energy towards Kuronue, blasting him with her own version of Suzaku's Railgun.
She turned the crow demon into fuel and matter for her own energy gun, the same way Suzaku could turn any piece of steel into a blast of pure energy.
The golden beam of light seemed to kill multiple clones of Kuronue at the same time, his body stubbornly refusing to disintegrate, with him reviving over and over, only for him to die again, until there was nothing left of both Karasu and Kuronue in that seeming infinite loop of life and death.

Hiei harrumphed.
His speed did not phase his opponent one bit. Nor did his S-Level youki and Dragon of Darkness Flame.
However, he still had to kill Usui then and there.
The blind swordsman with his adaptable Tinbe was too dangerous to be left alive. He'd just disrupt their plan to take out Houji Sadojima permanently and drive the Shin Ju back without hope of resurrection.
Was it shameful to strike down an injured man? In war, there was no such thing as honor or fairness. Just survival of the fittest.
Uonuma cackled. "The speed by which you attack and how hard it is to catch you off-guard is impressive. You remind me of someone."
Hiei didn't answer back.
"Ah yes. Sou-kun," said Usui with a hint of wistfulness in his voice even though his comrade Soujiro Seta was still with him, just in a different unit of the Chojin's Army (the Dai Shin Kan).
The two used to spar from time to time, with both being amazed at the other's prowess.
Seta was surprised by the fact that no matter how fast he went, the Tinbe would block his strike despite his lack of presence or sakki (bloodlust). Uonuma was shocked at how, at times, the boy would reach supersonic speeds that even his Rochin couldn't hope to counter.
Instead of turtling up in defense, Usui attacked for a change, the sands of the beach underfoot blasting behind him like a sandstorm. His Shingan senses and Hiei's Jagan third eye kept the both of them from making fatal contact with each other. The most they could muster were flesh wounds.
Perhaps the youkai underestimated the revived human's abilities just because he was injured.
"Sou-kun's Shukuchi made him blindingly fast and his lack of bloodlust made him nearly undetectable. Your speed and constant bloodlust reminds me of him. You're always brooding while he's always happy. Like twin sides of the same coin."
"Sou-kun", huh? Soujiro Seta was a thorn in Hiei's side all throughout his mission and investigation on human experimentation at Alaska's Mount McKinley (also known as Denali).
The longer the battle went the further Usui pushed Hiei into a corner (literally even as they battled from the beach to the resort to the streets and to several nearby buildings), much to the prideful demon's shame.
It wasn't because Uonuma was as fast as him. Rather, Shishio's oldest rival was used to fighting people as fast as Hiei was, such as Soujiro.
This allowed Usui to use prediction and skill to match Hiei's superior reflexes.
The jaganshi harrumphed again, growing impatient. Someone who was this injured should not be this hard to kill.
Regardless, the youkai still had an ace up his sleeve that the nimble "Ten Ken (Heaven Sword)" lacked.
Summoning the Sword of Darkness Flame felt like a waste of time, but he did it anyway. If speed didn't work then raw power might tip the scales of their deadlock.
This only made the wistful, deranged, and sightless man happier for some reason.
A wave of nostalgia filled Usui. He couldn't see the fire of Hiei's flaming sword with his own actual eyes, his stolen Jagan from Jine sealed away with his blindfold, but he felt the heat from blade, giving him goose bumps and raising the hairs behind his neck.
Usui was for all intents and purposes a living corpse with an unbeating heart, but his mind made him feel as though his heart raced and his blood flowed like hot fire through his veins. His aortas. His artificial circulatory system.
To Hiei's surprise, the zombie discarded his impenetrable Tinbe and charged with only his Rochin. Shouting one name all the while like a lunatic.
"DIE, SHISHIO!"
Compared to Soujiro and even Hiei, Usui knew more nuanced sword/spear forms and cutting/stabbing techniques than a simple upward, side, or angled slashes. Fire sword or no fire sword.
Like a drunk brawler picking a fight against a championship boxer. Quickness could be countered by experience against predictability.
The jaganshi attempted his usual modus operandi of making his opponent miss and slash at his afterimage, only for him to appear from behind and slash his opponent to bits instead.
However, it was Hiei who ended up slashing at air and an afterimage that wasn't there.
Did Uonuma heal his wounds already? Was he hiding his true speed all this time...?!
Hiei's Jagan tried to sense and locate where Uonuma was, like always. His sight beyond sight served as his means to activate his tripwire reflexes.
Wait a minute. He couldn't see or sense him. Even Usui's jaki was gone. Hiei's vision had become clouded. 'Dammit...!'
The Rochin from out of nowhere stabbed him in the back and shot him right into the sign saying they were in Kitaoimisaki Park, his youkai blood spewing forth his mouth, nostrils, and even his three eyes.
The illusion faded away like a pile of cherry blossom petals blown away by a strong breeze, and soon reality set in.
As soon as the flames from Hiei's Jaou-En-Satsu Ken (Sword of Darkness Flame) enticed Usui's senses, he lifted his blindfold and unsealed the power of Jine's version of the Jagan.
Apparently, even Hiei's artificial Jagan that Shigure transplanted unto him was susceptible to hypnosis. Along with the eyes he was born with.
The Forbidden Child of the Koorime fell into a boneless heap before his blood pooled from underneath him.
He was too careless.
He believed he was there to take care of injured game, forgetting that an animal's flight or fight instincts made them many times more dangerous than usual.
"That was refreshing," said Usui. "I have to thank you, Jaganshi Hiei. Your flaming sword reminded me what I'm truly fighting for, even after a century."
The maneuver Uonuma did on Hiei was something he wished to do on Shishio himself. Trick him with the Jagan then stab him in the back. S-Level or not, such a sneak attack would kill him.
Uonuma then frowned. Inwardly, he thought, 'I haven't mastered Jine's Jagan yet. I can only use it once a day. Maybe more with the help of the Onmyouji's jaki power up, but he's sealed off from the rest of us Shin Ju right now.'
After a minute of pondering, the taller, bearded man grabbed hold of the diminutive demon by the hair and lifted him up high over his shoulders, his bloodstained Jagan in full view.
"No matter," Usui decided. "I have a new Jagan to play with now. As soon as Gein returns, I'll have him surgically implant your Jagan into the empty socket of my other eye. Then I'll have the power of both the Shingan and twin Jagan at my hands."
Uonuma trembled with barely contained excitement, which woke Hiei up after blacking out from the pain of being stabbed so hard.
"Not even Battousai nor Saito Hajime nor Shishio Makoto nor Tenro nor the Chojin will stand a chance against me once I have both those Jagan in my possession along with my Tinbe and Rochin!"
Just as Uonuma was about to melon-ball Hiei's Evil Eye from its artificial socket, Kurama then arrived, parrying the Rochin away with the Grass Blade.
"...Ah. You must be the Legendary Youko Kurama," said Usui with a sneer. "Udo Jine has told us a lot about you."

Kyujimayama Observatory suddenly had an entire building sprout from its lookout. Like a gigantic tree of steel and concrete. An ominous castle made of black spires and iron ore.
A structure with no discernible entrance, doors, or windows.
Earlier, just as another Iwanbo 3.2 was on the verge of turning Daiji Matsudaira into a messy pile of shattered bones, giblets, and mince meat, something changed inside the policeman's soul.
He absorbed the guilt and unfulfilled desires of the Oniwabanshu that left them as earthbound spirits, this energy mixing with the reiki of Daiji's soul and the kenki (swordsman spiritual energy) of Aoshi's warrior spirit.
Pushed into a corner and forced to feed into the negative energy of his comrades, his reiki and kenki started to mix with their youki and jaki.
It produced a whole new kind of energy: A swordsman's energy mixed with a human soul's spirit energy and the bloodlust of a demon.
Reiatsu (Spirit Pressure).
Like Shinobu Sensui's Sei Kou Ki (Holy Light Energy), Daiji produced a different sort of spiritual power worthy of one the gods or shinigami themselves or their version of the police, the Reikai Tokubetsu Boueitai (Spirit World Special Defense Squad).
It was through this volatile cocktail of different energies that Matsudaira was able to produce the spire-filled castle by which he trapped Houji Sadojima, Gein, and their undead army in one huge, tangible prison with his Quest-Class powers to create matter out of spirit energy but without sacrificing his life energy to do so.
And, like the One-Eight-Ten Killer before him, he himself was on the verge of breaking through from A-Level to S-Level by suddenly learning this spirit energy blending technique that took Sensui years to perfect.
Afterwards, a flabbergasted Kuwabara created a portal out of the constricting spire and exited with Officer Matsudaira in tow. He then sealed the portal shut before the Onmyouji, Gein, or their creatures could come out.
They'd finally stopped and sealed Houji from reviving the Shin Ju every time they were beaten. For now.
"You're really something else, Officer Matsudaira. You know that?" said Kazuma.
Catching up with his own shallow breaths, Daiji turned behind him and stared back at his ghostly Oniwabanshu comrades. "I can't let them down. Not again."
Kuwabara himself turned towards where the copper was staring at, in time to see the will o' wisp or blue fireball souls of the dearly departed Oni Gang.
The fireballs then formed back into the transparent human bodies of the four deceased shadow warriors. Hannya. Shikijo. Hyottoko. Beshimi.
With a smile hidden behind his mask but could still be heard from his ghostly voice, Hannya said, "As expected of our Okashira."
From there, Uchiko Shikoku (Sayuri), the ferry-girl of the Northeast Quadrant, arrived and started replenishing their spirit energy, although she pouted as she told Daiji, "I was almost sure you'd die, Ikemen (Pretty Boy). Oh well. Maybe next time?"
To Kazuma, the blonde shinigami instead said, "You, I couldn't care less if you died or not."
"Nobody asked you!" shouted back Kuwabara.

Back at the Okushiri Airport...
Sayaka finished up her report to the other Reikai Senshi and then said to them. "So far so good. Kurama-san's plans are coming along smoothly. I've also heard reports from Sayuri-san that Sadojima Houji and Gein had been sealed inside a castle-like structure by Matsudaira Daiji-san."
"As expected of the Okashira!" said Likka, mirroring Hannya's sentiments. "We have this mission in the bag!"
Natsuki then told the young Spirit World Inspector, "Tell Shuichi-sempai, I mean, Minamino-sempai to watch out for that Kuronue person. He may still be out there."
Sayaka tilted her head to the side in askance. "Tell Kurama about Kuronue? Why? Isn't he dead? Didn't you just kill him? Killed two birds with one stone by making Karasu into an energy blast?"
"That's the thing. I'm not sure he's dead." Shinkai shook her head. "Killing him is actually easy. Keeping him dead is hard. It must have something to do with his current powers. He might still be out there, hunting Kurama at this very moment."
The Heisei Era Misao piped up, "Yeah, it was weird. Every time it seemed like you've killed him, another him kept popping up in his place."
The youngest ferry-girl considered their words. "Do you think he's like Toguro Ani? An S-Level, Regent-Class regenerator?"
Natsuki shrugged. "The best way I could describe it is that he's like Schrödinger's Cat. Like he's alive and dead at the same time."
"Maybe even Schrödinger's Bat!" Likka quipped to mostly silence.

Kitaoimisaki Park was located in the westernmost corner of Okushiri Island.
The Sea of Japan served as its backdrop. It was designed as an open-air museum of sorts filled with sculptures made by Masayuki Nagare, a modernist Japanese sculptor.
Sculptures that soon turned to dust from the battle that ensued.
"RENGOKU SHOU! (PURGATORY WOUND!)" shouted Hiei as he pummeled the wide-open, distracted Usui with his fists of flame, but the flurry of blows were also countered and neutralized by the damnable Tinbe shield.
It did allow him to get away from his captor, though.
Meanwhile, Kurama had arrived there just in time with the assistance of Sayuri's intel and Kuwabara's Jigen Tou.
Kurama asked for their help after they were done sealing away the Onmyouji with Daiji Matsudaira's evolving powers.
"Let's not risk having Usui use Jine's Jagan again," Kurama told Kuwabara. "Leave and don't look anywhere near his face or eyes, Kuwabara-kun."
"You got it, Kurama," said Kuwabara before making a portal out of there. "Hiei, you fucked up! Now Kurama has to bail you out!" Kazuma jumped right into the portal he made before Hiei could follow him and beat him up for his remark.
Kurama then told Hiei, "Kuwabara-kun's right, you know," which made Hiei seethe even more. "I know how you feel, but sit this battle out for now. Let me handle this while Sayuri-san heals you for now."
As for the scythe-bearing Uchiko "Sayuri" Shikoku, she balefully used her shinigami powers to heal the damage done on Hiei, although the pint-sized youkai didn't look too pleased about it.
"Look, we're both not happy about this, so could you stop glaring at me?" said Uchiko, who actually wanted to see what was next for the death-defying "hunk" known as Daiji Matsudaira instead.
Actually, Kitaoimisaki Park was supposed to be under Botan's jurisdiction (she was assigned the northwest quadrant), but she was too busy guiding Yahiko safely towards the Onmyouji to finish him off, so Sayuri had to do for now.
Usui chuckled, rubbing his chin. "Toguro Ani warned me about you," he said. "You're quite the trickster, I hear. So are you going to fight me now?"
"Yes," Kurama said, picking a rose seed inside his hair and turning it into a rose bloom then finally into the Rose Whip. However, this time around, it was a Rose Whip tied around the handle of the Grass Blade, thus turning it into a Rose Kusarigama (Chain Sickle).
"I hate tricksters like you," confessed Usui. "You remind me of a Saizuchi (his fellow Juppon Gatana member) that could somehow fight. The best way to take care of people like you is to kill you before you can come up with a convoluted scheme to take me down."
"Saizuchi?" repeated Kurama as he attempted to scan through Kenshin's memories given to him through his contact with the Demon Sword. "I don't know who that is." Himura must've never met that particular Ten Sword member.
They then proceeded to fight. Kurama was decently fast but not blindingly fast so like Kenshin Himura, Soujiro Seta, Yusuke Urameshi, or Jaganshi Hiei.
However, like with how Usui countered Hiei's speed with technique, Kurama knew how to methodically place his whip strikes and whiplash to minimize movement and maximize his range.
Also, thanks to his new weighted weapon, he could actually maneuver his whip to bounce off the Tinbe then hook-stab Uonuma from the back, as though he were fishing in the ocean.
What a frighteningly clever demon.
It took full focus and concentration from Usui's Shingan to predict the trajectory of every whip strike and whiplash from all sorts of awkward angles.
Kurama even made sure to attack only from a distance. He patiently waited when he'd commit to his strikes to keep himself from giving away any openings. A true chess master that outwitted even the likes of Feng Xinhai.
Truly irritating. Usui had no time for such protracted nonsense.
Usui let the Rose Chain-Sickle wrap around his Tinbe, which allowed him to pull Kurama towards him and stab him with the Rochin at last. The fox spirit turned human was able to twist his body in time to prevent a full-on stab like with Hiei, as though he was used to these situations.
Kurama grunted and tumbled backwards before ending up kneeling and gasping for breath.
Uonuma spared a sightless glance at Hiei and Sayuri, sneering at the youkai in particular. This was more for Hiei's sake (and mockery) than a need for him to sense the demon by turning his head, since he had heightened senses.
"I've defeated both Kurama and Hiei! The right-hand men of Yomi and Mukuro! Even the best demon warriors that Makai (Demon World) could offer are no match against me!"
However, before Usui knew it, he felt his Tinbe start to crumble, with cracks forming all around it like the time Kenshin hit it with the follow-up strike of the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki (Heavens Gliding Dragon Flash).
"W-What? But how...!?"
His fingers then noticed the growth of moss on the shield, which had taken root throughout the battle. "Moss...?"
Kurama said as he stood up, "A rolling stone gathers no moss. But a turtle shield might. Your Tinbe is amazingly sturdy, with it getting stronger the more you break it apart like organic bone. But since I added Makai Moss to it, the tiny cracks and marks it was supposed to heal couldn't heal because the moss roots had filled up their space."
Like moss on an old building, the moss on Usui's Tinbe compromised the strength of the magic item, keeping it from reconstituting itself properly. Making it crumble as the cracks and gaps where bone or shell was supposed to be was instead replaced with insidious moss.
Also, the Rochin strike to Kurama's side was shallower than before, the spear becoming more and more brittle in cadence with the weakening of the Tinbe.
A cold sweat dripped down Usui's beard. Even after he was warned by Toguro Ani to watch out for Kurama's trickery, he still ended up tricked in the end!
"I take it back," said Uonuma, gasping for air even though he didn't really need to breathe. "You don't remind me of Saizuchi after all, Kurama. You're more like Shishio Makoto himself. You're as shrewd as a fox yet you fight like a demon."
He glanced again at Hiei, this time not to mock him but instead because his Shingan sensed the sudden spike in heat from the fire demon, which in turn knocked Sayuri back.
"Eeek!"
"Jaou-En-Satsu...!"
"NOOOO...!"
"KOKURYUHA!"
Multiple Dragons of Darkness Flame engulfed and blasted open the compromised Tinbe like a roasting chestnut, the Demon World Moss burning away along with the rest of the turtle shield as the second-in-command of the Juppon Gatana and Shin Ju practically got nuked in place.

Meanwhile, in the sky overlooking the northwest part of Okushiri Island...
Botan flew top-speed towards the Kyujimayama Observatory, exchanging places with Sayuri since that was under the northeast quadrant's jurisdiction.
Right behind her, riding shotgun, was a tired Yahiko Myojin, who was conserving his strength for the battle ahead against the Chojin's so-called conduit of power.
As soon as they got confirmation of where Houji the Onmyouji hid, they flew up in the sky under Kurama's orders while Natsuki herself met up with Likka in order to run interference against the incoming Karasu and Kuronue (a replacement Shin Ju along with Toguro Ani).
Even better, they stopped bothering to hide in the clouds for fear of aerial strikes after both Natsuki and Daiji neutralized their targets.
The Yutaro reincarnation blasted away Karasu (who could make flying Trace Eye bombs) and the Aoshi reincarnation trapped both Gein (Kaoru didn't remember who that was) and Houji (Kaoru heard of him through Sanosuke) inside a sealed, castle-like structure.
Now was the perfect opportunity for them to strike Houji down before finishing off the rest of the Shin Juppon Gatana and rescuing Okushiri from being under siege by the Chojin.
However, the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.
Instead of them going straight to the sealed Houji, the Chojin's top minion apparently decided to go after them instead.
"What the hell is that, Tanuki-chan!?"
The top portion of the castle of spires proceeded to float towards Botan and Yahiko like some sort of alien ship or U.F.O.
The monument to their success had now become the flying tombstone of their imminent doom.
Jaki laser beams then blasted through the windowless structure, creating windows and doors.
"AHHH! Retreat!" screamed Botan while the Kaoru inside her head wondered how ordinary humans from the Meiji Era could take on something as ridiculous as a floating sky fortress.

Before the Kokuryuha could completely sublimate or at least carbonize Usui to the point of Gein needing to create a new body for him, Kuronue blinked into existence and pushed him aside in order to take the full brunt of the Demon World equivalent of a nuclear warhead.
"...Kuronue!" Kurama shouted out at the bat demon, concerned with the wellbeing of his former partner-in-crime despite their circumstances.
Then a curious thing happened.
Kuronue turned into a shadow in the street. Only for another him to (re)appear, who also turned into ash. Another him then replaced him, dying from the flames of the black dragon conflagration. Then another. Then another.
The bat demon died probably a dozen more times before Hiei thought it prudent to return the flames into his arm as tattoos, sealing them. Not willing to let Kurama's partner from millennia ago waste more of his demon energy.
After the present Kuronue gasped his dying breath, a new him took his place, completely healthy and unharmed.
What the hell was going on?
Even Kurama was shaken by the proceedings. He had heard Natsuki's explanation about Kuronue's new powers relayed to him by Sayaka's communicator, but even then he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw it in action.
Was it instantaneous resurrection powers like with Toguro Ani? Clones, like with Suzaku? Or even hypnotic illusions, like with Likka Ikumi and Jine Udo?
The Kuronue whom Kurama knew that died because of a bamboo trap never had such powers. Granted, he was a much weaker demon around that time. But still.
"Uh... Usui, was it?" said Kuronue to Usui. "You should be more careful when fighting Kurama. He's a sneaky one, you see. Don't let him figure you out or else he'll get you killed. It's rare for him to get overwhelmed, like in the case of that one S-Level Reikai Tantei or the Reikai Boueitai."
Uonuma harrumphed. "Ah, so it's you, newbie. Don't get full of yourself. You were only revived by the Chojin because you're the only guy we know who could deal with Youko Kurama's cunning. Udo Jine was supposed to fill the role of Achilles' heel to Kurama, but he ultimately failed and got killed by him."
The bat demon could only laugh. "Haaai (Yeees). Read you loud and clear, sempai (upperclassman)."
Hiei then told the blonde shinigami, ""You better leave now if you don't want to get hurt."
Uchiko said, "But you're not yet finished healing...! Ah. You know what? Fine. Whatever." She then made her exit using her floating scythe as her means of transportation instead of a long boat paddle.
Kurama and Hiei backed away unto each other's sides while both Uonuma and Kuronue loomed towards them, their weapons at the ready.
The Tinbe had already started to reconstruct itself. The gambit Kurama used to weaken it couldn't be used twice now that Usui was aware of how his trick worked.
"Is that really Kuronue or just another imposter?" Hiei asked Kurama, remembering the Meikai (Nether World) god who impersonated the bat demon to mess with the youko's head.
"I'm afraid that's him," Kurama said, his smile looking more like a wincing grimace. "And yes, he does know me like the back of his hand."
"Hn," said Hiei. "Then the same could be said with you to him, right?"
Minamino turned towards his fire demon companion and smiled. "Yes, of course."
Multiple Kuronue "clones" served as Usui's meat shield as his actual shield continued reconstituting its cracked surface, with it now strong enough to resist the Kokuryuha and perhaps even Demon World Moss.
"What's going on? Is Usui using Jine's Jagan again?" asked Hiei.
"No, I don't think so," said Kurama. "From what I remember, Jine's hypnosis affected one person at a time. I'm not sure if Usui evolved the Jagan enough to affect multiple people or create mirages like with Ikumi Likka's powers."
Hiei grunted. Before them was a scene reminiscent of one of the Dai Shin Kan (Great Priests), whose name escaped him at the moment, multiplying endlessly. 'It was Something-Yatsume who did it,' he thought.
Was multiple cloning the M.O. of the Overfiend?
Was it his way of showing his undead army of Dai Kaijin (Great Monsters) were as unlimited as a pestilence of voracious pests? Like a swarm of locusts or a mischief of rats? Unkillable like an intrusion of roaches?
He even heard from his communicator that the same thing happened with Gein and his Iwanbo meat puppets with the assistance of the Onmyouji, which forced Detective Matsudaira to seal them off inside a windowless, spire-filled prison.
Did they intend to infest the world like a plague, from Kuronue to Suzaku or even the Iwanbos of Gein and the Shikigami of the Onmyouji?
Hiei was sick of this clone nonsense but knew that using up his Kokuryuha wasn't in his best interests.
Kurama murdered several shadow clones of his partner, only to succumb to cuts and slices to his neck, abdomen, and thigh. This reminded him of his fight with the Fake Kuronue. That Meikai God did a convincing impression of his old friend.
But this time he was fighting the real deal, and none of his tricks were working against him.
"Rejoice, Youko!" said one of the Kuronues. "When the Chojin snatched me up from the depths of Hell, he told me he did so because he saw you as a threat. You were the only one who wielded the Demon Sword and used it to boost your powers to X-Level."
Kurama frowned, decapitating that one Kuronue and countless others with his Rose Kusarigama. "Who cares about being X-Level?"
Usui shook his head. "Fool! I'd jump at the chance to be as powerful as the Chojin himself! The only X-Level in existence at present! More powerful than the most powerful of the Demon World! You could've single-handedly killed the Shin Ju if you had that kind of power! Save everyone on the Human World you so love! Why do you deny greatness?"
The Youko inside Kurama chuckled, and for a split second his true form emerged. "What's the fun in that? Something given is taken for granted. Something earned is treasured."
The horde of Kuronues laughed upon hearing this and chorused, "Ah, now that's the Youko I know and love."
Hiei also chopped and burned the Kuronues before him with his Jaou-En-Satsu Ken. The sword had flames that, unbeknownst to him, were reminiscent of Shishio's Homura Dama.
The jaganshi did know enough about the Shin Ju to realize that doing the Sword of Darkness Flame would only entice Usui to fight even with his unfinished Tinbe.
The risk of fighting someone with the power of hypnosis was high, but as long as the brilliant and prepared Kurama had his back, Hiei had no fear against such hallucinations.
Whether they were from Kuronue or Usui.
Kuronue continued, "As one of the Chojin's Dai Kaijin, I then developed newfound abilities to help me take you out in the best way possible, Youko. Knowing you, the only way anyone can defeat you is if they're given unlimited retries to do so. You're a cunning fox. Most people would die a thousand deaths first before they can find an opening to take you down. So I chose to develop that kind of power."
Hiei had to admit that that sounded about right. You did not want the Youko as your enemy.
Using the brief rise of energy elicited by Kuronue's tempting words about gaining X-Level through the Youtou Shinnoken, Kurama turned a single stalk of bamboo into the Hydra Bamboo once more.
This weaponized plant of Kurama's was bamboo on "steroids" that multiplied twice for every stalk you cut down. Just like the legendary Hydra of yore. The only ways to kill it involved overcrowding it with other plants or by burning it to the point of carbonization.
The forest of bamboo pierced through the hearts, lungs, stomachs, muscles, intestines, livers, kidneys, and brains of the nearest gathered Kuronues while the rest scattered away like disturbed flies on shit. Or bats, since he was a bat demon.
"Hiei, NOW! While we still have the chance! Kill Uonuma Usui! I'll figure out a way to deal with Kuronue later."
The jagan user charged with his flame sword, able to keep the Hydra Bamboo at bay with his burning slices and cuts so that he wouldn't get overwhelmed himself by the deadly malignant forest.
He wasn't able to kill the half-healed Uonuma earlier but now he should be able to fare better against the blind man's half-formed turtle shield. His airtight defense earlier was now broken in half.
Usui's supernatural hearing and enhanced reflexes allowed him to block Hiei's 17 fire sword strikes in one second.
However, that one second of blocking was the opening the fire demon needed in order to blast a Dragon of Darkness Flame straight into the night sky before it came crashing from behind Uonuma while he busily defended against the Sword of Darkness Flame.
One of the Kuronues ended up protecting Usui from the rear, his chain scythe weapon turning into an iron mine's worth of steel that melted from the heat of the Black Dragon Spirit Wave Technique, which in turn flooded the bamboo forest with fiery molten metal.
Also, the Tinbe had by now reformed two-thirds of itself instead of only half, with it having a pie-sized opening left on an otherwise complete turtle shell shield.
They were running out of time.
The Spirit World Warriors would be back to square one or worse if the Onmyouji managed to escape Daiji's seal before Yahiko could get to him and neutralize his connection with the Almighty Chojin.
Again, Kurama used the Invasive Kudzu Grass to smother and eat the fire away, making it grow with the same uncontrollable rate as the Hydra Bamboo had over being sliced or physically torn apart.
Kuronue said, "I've seen that technique of yours before as well!"
From there, one set of Kuronues served as gardeners who chopped and diced up the Invasive Kudzu before it could absorb enough energy to become a problem, with them even sacrificing several of their own in the process.
Another set of Kuronues kept the blaze of the growing forest fire alive, filling the air with smoke and flames that burned up the mutated bamboo before it could grow enough to become unstoppable.
Unlike the mindless puppets of Gein and the Nameless Yatsume, Kuronue's phantoms had a frightening hivemind that learned from every mistake they made and adjusted thusly with every new generation of himself.
One Kuronue branched out into multiple versions of himself, thusly exploring infinite possibilities.
The Quantum Kuronue.
Maybe Kurama should've gotten hold of the Demon Sword and finished all the Shin Ju off with one or ten slashes. A potential eleventh slash for the Onmyouji.
But that was the boring way of doing things. And Kurama loved a challenge. How should he solve this puzzle that Kuronue suddenly became?
Besides which, Kurama noticed that Hiei had been hiding one more ace up his sleeve all this time. An ace that the Shin Ju were probably also aware of, but had yet to experience firsthand.
Hiei backed off from Usui's Rochin stab, sheathing his sword and adopting the same battoujutsu or iaido (sword-drawing) stance that Himura Battousai was known for.
The whole park had become a mess. One part of it was composed of burning bamboo and molten metal that had started to harden.
The other part was filled with bits and pieces of kudzu grass reaped by scythes, with several of them allowed by the Kuronues to eat the remaining red and black flames, thus controlling the blaze.
That was one helluva landscaping job Kuronue did.
The army of Kuronues then remerged into one body, awaiting the next attack from Kurama to occur that they'd then dissect and deconstruct.
Once Uonuma's Tinbe was completed, nothing in their arsenal would be able to take down his defensive turtle shield.
The shell had already tasted every last technique they could throw at it, from Demon World Moss to Makai Flames. Everything but the kitchen sink.
Regardless Hiei flickered into action and Kuronue multiplied once more.
Usui lay in wait, his Shingan soaking in all the different noises surrounding him yet his supernatural senses able to distinguish which ones were the Kuronues and which ones were Hiei.
He also screamed, "Hey, Newbie! When you decapitate the fire demon, make sure to keep his Jagan intact! I need that!"
Kurama walked calmly towards the chaos of burning bamboo, chopped kudzu grass, a self-contained forest fire, and what seemed like an army of Kuronue converging into what appeared to the naked eye as empty space but instead was actually a supersonic Hiei.
He then snatched the jewel necklace hanging from the neck of (one of the many clones of) Kuronue.
The youko figured out the new powers that the Chojin bestowed upon Kuronue. All of his clones were the real him.
On a quantum level, Kuronue managed to exist in multiple planes of existence and manifest himself in one reality, allowing some of his selves to die and his other selves to live at the same time in an infinite loop.
It enabled him to interact in one dimension in a multi-dimensional manner, so that he could do one, two, three, or more things at the same time until he succeeded in a given instance, his realities branching forth endlessly as he explored every possibility.
For a schemer like Kurama who tended to finish off opponents with cunning and wit, this new version of Kuronue was an absolute nightmare to handle. He was like Yusuke. Creative. Unpredictable. Chaotic.
An honest demon who'd never attack you from behind but knew every trick in the book because he was an expert in unraveling mysteries, traps, techniques, and lies. He loved figuring out the truth behind everything.
The same bat demon who ended up dying, ensnared by the simplest and most primitive of bamboo traps due to his immense sense of sentiment, which was ironic and truly unbecoming of someone as clever as him.
Kuronue should've known better.
Kurama figured out that the Meikai God who impersonated the Fake Kuronue was a fake with the way he discarded the jewel around his neck.
In the same vein, he knew this Kuronue was the real deal when he... all of him... scrambled for the jewel with a high amount of sentimental value to him.
The seeming dozens—perhaps even hundreds or more—of Kuronues all jumped at grabbing hold of the jewel Kurama threw away in the same manner that the Meikai God Kaiki did.
This was the opportunity Hiei was waiting for.
"Jaou-En-Satsu KOKURYUHA!"

Thousands of years ago...
A bloodied young Kuronue cackled with gnashed teeth and a raspy throat at Youko Kurama and his bloodstained claws.
Maimed but not broken. His body scourged with lacerations. His limbs flopping uselessly on the floor.
His clenched teeth gripping the string of a necklace.
The leader of the demon bandits looked at the bat demon with disdain and confusion. The kid managed to steal a necklace from their haul.
"Why are you so happy? That's just a trinket compared to the countless treasures we've gathered," Youko Kurama said with a toss of his silken hair.
On shaky legs, Kuronue rose up, his bloody back on the craggy wall. "If it was so insignificant, you wouldn't have almost killed me to get it back."
Kurama raised his clawed hand, the constant lightning from Makai's dark clouds illuminating his silhouette. "Would you die for that necklace?"
Again, through clenched teeth, Kuronue spoke. "What an honor it would be to do so. Let me die a martyr. Let me be known as the one demon who outwitted the Legendary Youko Kurama."
Kurama changed his mind then and there. He put down his raised arm, turned, and walked away.
"HEY! Are you just going to let me go, you coward?" Kuronue spat, which led to him accidentally dropping the necklace. He then went on a mad scramble for it, willing his trembling arms to catch the jewelry.
"Rest up. Heal your wounds. You're now part of my bandits. Bring my jewel along with you," commanded the youko. "We hunt in the next earth day."
After finally grabbing hold of the jewel, Kuronue demanded, "And if I refuse?"
While still facing away from him, Kurama turned his head and gave the bat demon a sidelong glance. "I don't think you will."
From that point forth, the youko ended up with an ally more valuable than the trinket he stole from him.

The Dragons of Darkness Flames killed every last one of the Kuronue doppelgangers with its youki-infused flames from the Demon World burning them to sublimation at an atomic level.
Kurama went down on his knees, exhausted. He'd lost a lot of blood from his war with what seemed like a thousand Kuronues converging at him at once.
However, in the corner of his eye, he could've sworn he saw at least one Kuronue move out of the Kokuryuha's line of sight.
If a Kuronue had survived, then there was at least a one in a hundred/thousand possibility that if Kurama had thrown away that necklace, he wouldn't have gone after it.
Kuronue was learning. Changing. Evolving.
Kurama smiled. At least something good came out of the Chojin's plans to revive their dead enemies/comrades to use against them.

I based Kuronue's new powers on the version of Kuronue featured in my first-ever fan fiction, "Shonen". Something about the (watered-down for fiction version of the) Many-World Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics with a dash of Schrödinger's Cat thrown into the mix.
The boss battle is fast approaching, but those mini-bosses can be quite the handful!

Mirage- A My Hero Academia Fan Fiction
Chapter 1- Afraid
Fic Summary- Misumi wanted nothing more than to be a hero. She was an amazingly promising student and was soaring far above anyone else at her age. Then, an accident happens and Misumi loses control of her quirk, resulting in her mother’s death. Follow Misumi and her story to see what dark paths she is led down.

“Misumi,” I was startled from my trance by a voice, “you have a visitor.”
I turned around in my cell and was met by an orderly named Kai. Dressed in all white as usual.
“You’d make a beautiful bride.” I smiled, leaning in close to his face while he undid the straight jacket I was wrapped in.
He ignored anything I said. They always do.
As we traveled down the long, ominous hallway, I looked to my right and left. Every room had a window of mirrored glass. This was the first time I’ve seen my reflection in days. I was almost unrecognizable to myself.
My seafoam green hair was tangled in knots on the back of my head. My bangs were greasy from sweating and the lack of showers that they allow me to take.
I looked paler than normal. The blush glow that normally filled my cheeks was gone. My gray eyes looked lost, like a puppy at the pound.
No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t seem to unfurrow the permanent scowl etched into my dark, thick eyebrows.
I looked back down at my hands as we walked. They were in shackles that covered my entire hand. I couldn’t even wiggle my fingers.
I looked up at Kai and decided to make this interesting.
My quirk is visual manipulation. Basically, I can make anyone see what I want them to see. It can range from something as small as a fly, to their entire surroundings. I can use people’s thoughts to create mirages for them. I can use their fears, memories, anything. I had so much potential before this.
I let out a small giggle.
“What?” Kai spat, rudely.
“You think binding my hands will save you. I don’t need them to use my quirk.” As I spoke, I used my quirk to morph my face into looking like a snake. My eyes turned green with reptilian slits, I unhinged my jaw, showing him rows of sharp teeth and a long split tongue.
Before I could realize, he took the taser from his belt and pressed it firmly to my chest, causing me to collapse on the ground below.
I twitched as I lied on the ground, “fuck you.” I managed to get out, while he pulled me back up to my feet.
“You know the rules, Misumi.”
We continued down the hall. Kai left a forceful guiding hand on my shoulder as he took me to the visitors room.
We entered, and then I saw him. My father.
“No.” I spat.
He stood, “Misumi, please.”
“No!” I raised my voice this time. My heart began pounding in my chest.
“I just want to talk, Misumi.” He pleaded.
My whole body was shaking. I could feel the heat of my blood boiling inside me.
“NO!” I screamed. I pulled away from Kai who just held me tighter. “GET OUT!” I shouted at him. I writhed in Kai’s arms.
My heart rate continued to increase. I felt like there was a fire within me.
“Misumi. It’s your fault”
“You did this Misumi”
“Everyone hates you”
“You’re a villain”
“Please! No! Stop!” I screamed. The voices grew louder with each second.
I screamed and cried as I fought to free myself from Kai when I felt a sharp pain in my neck and everything went black.

I awoke in the white room. Padded walls and no windows. I was restrained in a straight jacket.
I sat entirely still. Staring at the wall in front of me. I played the scene over and over again in my head. A single tear streamed down my cheek and fell onto the floor below. I started down at the wet spot.
“Do you blame yourself?” A gravelly, distorted voice spoke. Unlike any I’ve heard before.
“What?” I replied.
“Well it’s quite common in this situation for a patient to feel a kind of guilt.”
“What situation?” I asked, looking around.
Suddenly, I saw myself. But it didn’t look like me. The vision of myself had solid black eyes. A cloud of black smoke flowed around her, accompanied by a faint glow, the same shade of seafoam green as my hair. There was blood on her clothes. She floated in the air above me before falling to the ground. Sitting on the floor inches away.
“The accident.” She said, lifting her hand to show me a bloody palm. She touched it to my cheek and I could feel the wet warmth.
I was looking down, I could feel hot tears streaming down my face.
She grabbed my chin and turned my head up to face her. The vision had changed and I was met with my worst nightmare.
Before me was my mother. Her skin, pale and lifeless. Her eyes were glossed over, a milky white. Her lips, blue and dry. She had dark lacerations on her neck and arms.
Did I do that?
“Mom,” I cried, “I’m so sorry!” I sobbed, trying to lean towards her.
Then she disappeared.
I fell face first into the soft padded ground and stayed there. I tried catching my breath but I couldn’t calm myself. With every second the room began to shrink. I felt the straight jacket tighten around me. The burning in my chest was inconsolable. It felt like my heart was being ripped out.
I tried to let out a scream but it came as more of a whimper.
I continued to lay with my face on the floor. I don’t know for how long. My cheek rested in a pool of snot and tears and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stop crying.
After what felt like days, I heard the door unlock.
I lifelessly turned my head towards the door, not getting up from the ground.
“Hello, Misumi.” I looked up at the man standing before me. He was short and round. He had black hair that was neatly combed to the side. He wore a gray pint striped suit and thin, wire framed glasses.
Kai entered the room from behind the other man and lifted me off the ground.
“My name is Doctor Nakamura. You may call me Dr. N, if that’s easier for you.” He had a jaunty tone to his voice and spoke with a smile.
“You’re a bit peachy for a psych ward doctor.” I deadpanned as Kai unbuckled me from the jacket.
“I’m not just any Doctor,” he began, as we started down the hall, “you are a very, um… specific case, Misumi.”
“How’s that?” I asked sarcastically.
He turned to look at me. His eye shot a glaring look as they met mine. I don’t trust him.
He continued to talk about his practice and his previous patients. I was bored.
We walked to a room that I had never been in before. In the center of the room was a tub with a lid on it.
“What’s this?” I asked, motioning towards the tub with my bound hands.
“This is your new treatment, Misumi.” Doctor Nakamura replied, “We must purge your mind and body of these unwanted villainous urges.”
“What do you mean?” I asked cautiously.
“We will begin with a series of tests. This will take days, possibly weeks,” He explained, “Once I discover which method is most affective for treating your villainous urges, we will use that most until we get some real results.” He spoke proudly, like he was excited to torture me.
Kai freed my hands.
“Please remove your clothing and step into the ice bath, Misumi.” Dr. Nakamura smiled widely.
I began to strip, eyeing both Kai and the doctor.
I stepped into the ice bath and winced at the feeling. It felt like thousands of pins and needles pricked my legs, they quickly went numb.
“You will be submerged, and then lifted from the water. Do not worry, this is very safe.” The doctor placed a hand on my shoulder, pushing me to lay in the tub.
I glanced at Kai, shooting him a worried look. He didn’t have his typical scowl etched onto his face. He looked concerned.
I shuddered as I sank into the tub, “You’ll kill me,” I breathily whispered.
“Just think, Misumi, it was this or Tartarus.” The doctor smiled at me once more before placing a weight on my stomach and pushing my head underwater.
The water immediately plunged into my nose. The chill of the ice surrounding my body burned like fire. The pain was unbearable. I fought my hardest to avoid the impulse of gasping for air. My head felt like it was going to explode. I could see the blur of Doctor Nakamura standing above me.
My body writhed beneath the weight, trying anything to relive the pain and engulf a breath of air. My vision blurred further. I could feel my mouth open, gasping for air. Then everything went black.

“Misumi,” I heard my mother’s voice, “come to me.”
“Mom?” I whimpered, “Where are you? I can’t see.”
“I don’t have much time, dear.” I could feel her warm hands cupping my cheeks.
“Mom, what’s happening?” I cried, nuzzling my face into her hand.
“You aren’t ready yet.”
“What do you mean?! What’s happening?! MOM!” I began to shout, flailing my arms around. I couldn’t feel anything. It’s like I was floating in space.
“I’m not mad at you, okay.” I felt an embrace. I tried to wrap my arms around her, but couldn’t.
“Mama, I’m so sorry.” I sobbed. I could feel her holding me, her head resting on my shoulder. I could smell her hair, her cherry blossom scented shampoo.
“Be strong, my darling.” She kissed my forehead.

I gasped for air, coughing up water.
Dr. Nakamura was standing over me, a crooked smile on his face. Kai was right behind him with a towel in his hand. He promptly put it over me.
They had removed my body from the tub and laid me on the floor before I woke up. I assume the doctor did CPR.
I continued trying to catch my breath, still coughing water.
“I could have died.” I cried.
“You did,” the doctor replied, “luckily for you, though, my quirk is revivement. I am going to kill you as many times necessary to purge you of your evil impulses.”
I stared at him in shock. I looked at Kai, who was standing behind him. His face was white, and his mouth hung open.
“Kai. Take her to her new room. We have no need for the white room anymore, she’ll be much too exhausted to need it. We will continue treatment tomorrow. Goodnight Misumi.” He smiled once more, nodding his head.
Kai helped me up and led me to a new room. We were silent the entire way there.
The room he took me to was small, it had a single bed and night table. The window was fogged glass and had bars covering it.
“Home, sweet, home.” Kai joked, handing me my clothes.
I shot a burning glare at him.
He left, locking the door behind him and I began to get dressed.
The gray sweat pants and long sleeve shirt I wore were itchy. I could feel the material rub against my skin. The feeling of the ice left me still numb. I was beginning to feel numb on the inside, too.
The small mattress creaked as I climbed into bed. I leaned my head against the wall and started straight. My wet hair clung to my cheek as I pressed my face closer to the navy blue cinder block wall.
I started to sing softly to myself,
“Mori mo iyagaru, Bon kara saki-nya
Yuki mo chiratsuku-shi, Ko mo naku-shi
Bon ga kita-tote, Nani ureshi-karo
Katabira wa nashi, obi wa nashi.”
I was interrupted by a voice at the door, “My mom used to sing that to me all the time when I was little.” Kai spoke to me through the slit in my door.
“Mine, too.” I spoke softly, almost whispering.
“Why did you do it then?” He asked.
The question panged in my chest like a knife. I didn’t know whether to feel sadness or anger.
“More like why didn’t anyone stop me?” I replied sharply.
He sat in silence for a moment.
“Goodnight, Misumi.” He closed the slit before allowing me to reply.
I sunk into the bed, covering my head with the blanket, and continued to sing.
“Kono ko you naku, Mori wo ba ijiru
Mori mo ichi-nichi, Yaseru-yara
Hayo-mo yuki-taya, Kono zaisho koete
Mukou ni mieru wa, Oya no uchi
Mukou ni mieru wa, Oya no uchi.”

Dark Falz Luther
As this boss is becoming more common and drops a powerful Katana in Extremely Hard, here’s a rundown of his actual mechanics so you can get a leg up on figuring out the boss.
This is only a general guide - we do so much damage that on Extremely Hard he tends to just get beaten to death anyway, regardless of mechanics. This is more for organized friend groups to work on smoother, faster clears without totally meta compositions.
For the Urgent Quest version, note that you need to clear the preceding Apos Dorios battle four times to get maximum drops from Luther himself.
With all this out of the way, let’s begin.
One of the most important things to understand about this boss, and why public runs can take so long to clear, is that damage done to his arms while they have armor on them does not contribute to his main health pool. This means every time you need to break one of his arms adds another 1.7m HP to his health pool on Extremely Hard, and somewhere around 2.3m HP to his health pool on Super Hard.
Another important mechanic is that the Blind (aka “Mirage” from JP fan patch) status effect causes a temporary stun that temporarily exposes his primary weak point. If you deal enough damage during these stuns, you will permanently expose it for the rest of the battle. However, if you do not deal enough damage across the two or three stuns you get, you cannot trigger a fourth stun, and this weak point will be permanently shielded. For this reason, while learning the battle with friend groups, Wind techniques are strictly banned for the first portion of the fight, including Zanverse.
Finally, there are many HP thresholds that effectively divide the battle into phases. You want to use the intro phase to full break all relevant parts so you can beat him to death during the rest of the fight.
This is a marked image of Dark Falz Luther, in the general order you should approach boss objectives.
Start by attacking and breaking the armor on the arm marked with 1. This will trigger a special stun phase where Luther will attempt to repair his armor, and expose the bicep labeled with 2 to damage, allowing you to target and destroy it.
After breaking the arm’s armor, do not attack Luther until this animation has begun playing. Extra damage can and will cause the fight to go off of this script.
Upon dealing enough damage to his bicep, this will trigger another stun phase (”A variable beyond my grasp?!”) which will temporarily expose his “neck” weak point.
For the sake of this strategy, do not attack him at all during this stun.
Damage dealt to any part available to you will contribute to his main health pool, and can cause the fight to enter the second phase early. Once again, patiently wait for the stun to end.
If done according to this guide, he will get back up and freely let you repeat what you just did to his other arm, so repeat the process - break the armor on the arm labeled with 3, wait patiently, then break the bicep labeled 4.
After you’ve done this, you’ll get a second neck exposure stun phase. Either wait patiently for this stun, or beat on it if you want to - you’ll likely enter the second phase of the battle, in which he starts using different attack patterns based on either “slowing down” or “speeding up” time, denoted by the arena turning blue or pink.
During fast phases, watch the ground carefully. The arena will light up where his attacks will strike.
During slow phases, respect every attack and prioritize survival if you aren’t confident. His attacks hit very hard, but are highly telegraphed and easy to dodge.
From here now though, the objective is to move on to the part labeled 5, which is exposed by the aforementioned stun mechanic with the Blind status and wind techniques. Characters that can cast techniques should at this point cast Zan directly at the clock.
Upon landing a stun, Luther will stop everything he is doing, even breaking time-based attack phases, drop to the ground, and shout “There must be some garbage in the formula...!”
Unload everything you have onto the newly exposed clock weak point. If you do enough damage, the armor protecting it will shatter, and this becomes a weak point for the rest of the fight.
However, there is a catch. On Extremely Hard, if you break the clock before you break both biceps, it will remain shielded by a cloud of negative photons. In other words, you must break both biceps in order to attack his primary weak point on Extremely Hard.
If you’ve followed this guide to the letter, you can now safely ignore the rest of the parts listed on the image and beat on him.
Breaking the part labeled 6 will cause another “A variable beyond my grasp?!” stun, if he isn’t already stunned when it breaks.
The parts labeled 7 become targetable after the first swords phase. Breaking all four of them will add upwards of 20 Grinders to the final drops and slightly weaken his attacks during the final phases of the fight.
Swords and you
At certain HP thresholds, Luther will teleport into the background and become intangible, shouting stuff about omniscience. What’s important is that he will soon afterwards proclaim “I am Luther the Fallen! I am one with the Akashic Records!” while placing swords on the field, and soon afterwards will trigger a time stop effect.
The time stop can be dodged with invulnerability frames, such as with your default dodge motion or with Photon Arts that give them. However, it cannot be blocked.
The timing can be roughly estimated by watching the bubbles around the swords as they reach the field - when the bubble is near touching the platform, and seems like it’s about to burst, dodge.

If you get caught by the time stop, however, you can mash direction inputs to break free of it.
One free, focus on breaking swords so you don’t have to worry about taking 4,000 damage.
Note that you only need to break one sword to avoid this attack - each sword targets a quarter of the arena. It’s nice to break all of them, but it’s funnier if you don’t, so it can be a difficult decision to make.
From here, just continue to beat on him. The clock should be exposed, and you should quickly push into the second swords phase in no time at all.
What if our group pushed the second phase before breaking the second bicep?
You have a few options. Break the arm as usual, then either wait patiently for his attack pattern to end and he enters his stun, break the part labeled 6 and patiently wait for his stun to end, or go for Blind and stop attacking him the moment you expose the weak point (or just don’t attack him and break clock during the second Blind).
When it’s all said and done though, in pub groups, you are probably just going to beat him to death. Don’t harass other people over not full breaking him or doing the mechanics, since the only thing this does is make the fight go smoother - it does not add more chances for Kazami no Tachi to drop.
Lastly, his primary bird head at the top of his body counts as a weak point for ranged damage, so groups made of Rangers and the like can totally ignore all mechanics and just gun him down like a dog.

Summary: When a mysterious package shows up at your front door, you (a famous Romance novelist) are hurtled from your virtually uneventful life and into one of danger and adventure. In a quest to save your captured friend Caitlin from impending harm, you run into a suave adventurer named Nash who helps you along the way. Or is the charming Nash simply after something in your possession…?

It’s the cacophony of birds squawking that stirs you from your sleep. Your eyes flutter open to find your head tucked under Nash’s chin. His hand rests on your waist as he continues to sleep.
You feel your eyes go very round.
Immediately, you start to move away from him and stand up, letting your blanket fall away, and start towards your hanging clothes. You hear a rustling, followed by a hum.
“Now that’s what I call a view.”
You laugh awkwardly. “Be quiet.”
Nash smiles to himself. “Hand me my stuff, would you?”
Collecting his now dry clothes, you chuck them at Nash where he sits, then dress yourself without making eye contact with the man. You can’t step into the legs of your jeans fast enough, and nearly fall over. In bracing yourself on the van’s door, you spot something outside.
“Oh my goodness…” you breathe. There is a tiny baby gorilla making its sweet, adorable way towards the van. A little noise leaves your mouth, signalling how cute you think the little creature is. “I just want to go out and snuggle him.”
You reach for the door handle, but Nash grabs your hand to stop you.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
“Wh-?”
You nearly have a heart attack when the biggest, furriest gorilla face pops up in front of your face at the window. You inhale to scream, but nothing comes out. Instead, and without thinking, you clutch the closest thing - Nash’s undershirt - the only thing he’s managed to put back on so far. His hands hold onto your body, wanting you to feel safe just by touch.
It’s impossible to stop staring at the massive creature outside, especially when it locks eyes with you. The gorilla surveys the pair of you inside the van as if questioning whether you pose a threat to its child but must silently declare you harmless. It wanders over to the infant, scoops it up, and scurries off into the trees.
Only when the apes finally disappear do you realize that you and Nash are still holding each other, and you back off. Hiding your face, you fetch your now dry clothes on the back of the seat.
“Well,” he says cheekily, “that was rather exciting, don’t you think?”
“Being held at gunpoint, almost dying on a bridge, or an ape popping up at me in a window… Yeah. That’s gotta be the most exciting.”
“We had a moment.”
You scoff.
“Harrison Nash Wells believes in ‘moments’? I find that hard to believe.” You finally throw on your shirt and step into your jeans quickly, attempting to look like you’re focusing on the process itself and not still thinking about how he was touching you.
“What, you don’t think I can recognize a moment?” he shoots back.
“I just don’t think you’re that kind of guy. You move too fast to even have moments.”
When you turn around, Nash is right there in your space, staring you down with his piercing blue eyes. His gaze is electrifying - you feel static in your veins.
“Think you have me figured out, do you, Princess?”
“I’ve written characters like you.”
“There’s just one problem,” Nash points out, stepping closer.
“What’s that?”
“I’m not a character. I’m a living-” Step. “Breathing-” Step. “Man.” Step.
You swallow, flustered, and don't know where to look - his eyes or his mouth. Instead, you look out the window.
“We better get going.”

The next couple of hours are a bit awkward of a walk. At least, for you it is. Nash carries on with his seemingly inexhaustible amount of confidence.
“Ah, here we go,” he says, looking straight ahead. It almost feels like a mirage, but it couldn’t be more real - a small village.
Civilization!
As you both start making your way past people’s homes, you can’t help but notice each place is in the process of being decorated.
“I wonder what’s going on,” you muse while approaching a couple who are stringing lanterns on their porch. “Excuse us? What’s the occasion? Is there a festival going on?”
“Ah, hello!” greets the exuberant man, “My niece is getting married today! This is all for her.”
“Oh, that’s amazing, congratulations!” you say.
“Thank you.” The man eyes up both you and Nash. “You two are not from around here, are you?”
You laugh.
“No, I’m afraid not,” Nash replies, offering a hand. He introduces himself, then you as ‘Princess.’
“It’s nice to meet you kind strangers. My name is John, and this is my wife, Mary.”
“It’s lovely to meet you, too,” you reply genuinely. Honestly, it’s just such a relief to come across other normal people - ones who aren’t trying to kill you. “Actually, we’re a little lost. Do you think you could help us?”
“We can sure try,” Mary offers. “Where are you looking to go?”
“Kinshasa?”
The couple shares a look.
“That’s a bit of a ways east, dear. Far too long to keep walking. Have you been walking all this time?”
You nod.
“John, what about that old contraption of yours? Could they not take that off your hands?”
“Oh, yes, I suppose I could part with it,” John replies. “I have an old Jeep I was going to sell for parts, but I think you both need it more than I do.”
“Thank you. It’s much appreciated,” Nash says, then points his thumb at you. “I don’t know how much longer she can walk for.”
“Excuse me?” you pipe up. “I can go all night if I have to!”
Nash turns so that only you can see his face, and winks at you. Only then did you hear how that must have sounded. Your cheeks feel on fire now.
“You wouldn’t want to do that,” John points out. “Not safe out there at night.”
“Oh my, and look at your leg, you poor thing!” Mary exclaims. “I will fix that up for you!”
“In fact,” John continues, “if you would like to take a rest from your journey, you may stay with us tonight and we would be happy if you both would join us for the wedding.”
Your eyes light up at the offer. A wedding? How wonderful! Maybe you’ll even take mental notes for a new book during the ceremony! How will the groom look at his bride as she walks down the aisle? And when they cut the cake or the toss of the bouquet?
Just as you say, “Thank you, we’d love to!” Nash answers with, “Oh no, we better get going.”
You share a glance with your companion.
“What about your friend, Princess?” he mutters so only you can hear.
“Nash, maybe I should rest my leg? And like they said, it wouldn’t be safe to head out, especially when we don’t know when we’d get this lucky again out there. Besides, John said he’d lend us his Jeep, so we can leave first thing in the morning.”
Though he drops his shoulders slightly in defeat, he still smiles.
“Yeah. Yeah, alright,” he says.
“Perfect!” Mary says while taking your hands. “We must get you cleaned and clothed! Come with me, dear.” The couple leads you and Nash into their home. It’s quite spacious compared to the other houses along the main strip of the village. You are highly glad for their kind hospitality.
“You look familiar, dear,” Mary says to you, once inside. “I feel like I’ve seen your face be- eeee!”
The squealing woman leaves you standing in the middle of the room as she heads over to her bookshelf. Mary pulls out a book and opens it to the back page, scurrying back to you. You find yourself staring at your author photo and profile.
“You’re (Y/N) (Y/L/N)!” she shouts.
“I am!” You smile at her enthusiasm.
“I am a big, big fan! You are my favourite writer. I have all of your books.”
“Oh my gosh, really? Thank you so much! That means so much to me.”
You can feel Nash’s eyes boring into you without even having to look. And while Mary explains to you why Carter is her favourite male character you’ve written about, you spot Nash plucking one of your six novels from Mary’s bookshelf.
“Just wait until you meet Chase,” you tell her. “He’s in my next book. You’ll just love him too. I know I do.” Nash thumbs through the book in his hands, studying it still.
“I cannot wait!” Mary squeals.
“I’ll send you a copy myself, I promise.”
“You are the sweetest! Now, please dear, follow me. Let’s get you into some new clothes for the ceremony.” You cast a glance over to Nash again, hoping to catch a glimpse of… well, you’re not sure.
The adventurer doesn’t look up from your book.

After having a much-needed shower and letting Mary tend to your leg with a bandage, you step out of the spare bedroom clad in your new friend’s beautiful flowy dress she’s loaned to you for the evening.
“My dear, you look breathtaking! My dress was made for you!” Mary coos and rushes to you for a hug. Her enthusiasm and sweetness causes you to break out in a grin. Over her shoulder, you notice John murmur something into Nash’s ear, and Nash, well… he won’t stop staring at you.
Wait. When did Nash change into a tux?
It actually takes a hell of a lot out of you to pick your mouth up off the floor.
He. Looks. So. Good.
It’s almost ridiculous how good he looks, and now you can’t decide whether he looks better clothed like this or down to barely anything like last night...
“You look… good,” you tell him.
“What, the New York Times bestselling author can only come up with the word ‘good’ to describe me?”
You scoff, watching to see if he is indeed somehow inching closer to you. “Shut up. I meant what I said.”
“I don’t look better than good?”
“You look alright.”
“I feel like we’re going backwards now.”
“Aw, you two act like such an old married couple!” Mary points out, shaking you from your banter. “How long have you been together?”
You blush hard, and immediately regret how you acted with Nash. We are not a couple. We do not act like a couple. Far from it!
However, you don’t say any of this aloud. Instead, you laugh a little and say, “I may be a hopeless romantic, Mary, but I’m not that hopeless!” Then nudge Nash in his rib with your elbow as a joke.
The couple laughs along, but when Mary leans over and whispers to John, he nods and makes an agreeable sound.
“Please excuse us,” Mary says to you both, and your hosts proceed to retire to the back room of the house.
“They left us alone on purpose, didn’t they?” you ask Nash.
“Yup.” You find yourselves both shaking your heads at the ridiculousness. It’s not like Nash and you would ever… No. He’s too- He’s not-
You don’t even know exactly what to think about him.

Review of Netflix War for cybertron
I didn’t know anything about this series heading in, other than seeing gifs from cili-ai, who I highly recommending following for Transformers content.
What got me watching was seeing Skyfire w/ a Decepticon badge, but no spoilers its actually just Jetfire. Still good interactions with Starscream though.
Apparently it’s produced by Roosterteeth! They did a good job with animation and model details and textures.
But, I don’t think this show is a good jumping on point for people who aren’t fans of transformers, or know nothing about the show. There’s enough characters that it would be hard to keep track, and it’s short enough that there aren’t a lot of different character interactions. I do recommend it for people who are already Transformers fans.
Things I liked:
I’m glad Bumblebee could talk. The Bay verse influence of the beep-boops and radio noise has had like a 10 year run. Glad to see something different
I liked Elita-1′s arc a lot. I liked her motivations and that she was willing to challenge Optimus on decisions.
It was fun to see variety in the cast and have them have character shout outs. Like Megatron dragging Shockwave for always having a secret unethical experiment ready to propose.
It was fun to see Ratchet start as something other than grumpy Autobot medic.
It was fun to see Mirage at all, let alone him use his abilities of invisiblity, or disguise himself as a decepticon.
SOUNDBLASTER!
I liked how many characters there were on both sides, like actual named characters. It made it a bit more impactful when some of them dropped dead, but also it made both sides feel like actual factions. Compare with TF: Prime where there are just a lot of drones as cannon fodder.
Things I didn’t like:
Some of the character voices were hard to hear with the amount of filter. It only cropped up in a few places
Its is a mcguffin heavy show, which yeah it’s transformers, but between them chasing after energon, the allspark, the space bridge subplot, Alpha Trion’s mystery memories. it got to be a bit much
Megatron’s voice actor did a great job, and it was fun to see him be a villian. However In ep 1 he is talking about offering a peace treaty in good faith and the righteousness of the revolution, enough Ultra Magnus believed him. By ep 5 he’s crossing the moral event horizon to do whatever it takes to kill the Autobots. I get it’s supposed to be a downward spiral, but the characterization seems a bit rushed and inconsistent. He could have been lying all along, but that wasn’t shown.
I’ll be honest I had to look up that it was Red Alert as the medic. I honestly thought it was First Aid. If his name was said, I didn’t catch it and I’m so used to him being security.
Though I am tired of bumblebee focused shows, I feel they wasted a lot, and a good plot line by having a mcguffin make him decide to be an autobot. Rather than like a choice he makes himself. Exploring what made someone stay or go neutral would have been much more interesting.

Transformers: Superlink References I Noticed
Most Trans-fans watch Transformers: Armada and Energon and see them as a completely different universe with little to no G1 references (and some Star Trek, Star Wars, and Pokémon references peppered into the trilogy), besides seeing them as some of the worst Transformers media; I saw Transformers: Micron Legend and Superlink that have a lot of G1 references, as well as being some of the most underrated and underappreciated Transformers media.
Superlink, especially, have many references from The Transformers: The Movie (1986) as well as parts of the original series, including Season 3, and a few callbacks from its predecessor, Micron Legend (Superlink is its sequel, after all).
The following G1 movie references I saw from Superlink include:
- The show brought back original characters from Micron Legend (including Ironhide, Sandstorm, and Shockwave), and then killed them off before even half-way into the series
- Megatron comes back as Galvatron; with not only a new body (which is a huge callout from the 1986 movie), but a different voice actor/seiyuu, as well
- Some of the original characters (especially Sandstorm, Ironhide, and Shockwave) were reformatted via Unicron’s power into completely different characters that are not as memorable
- Rodimus Prime (called Rodimus Convoy) makes an appearance, even though this Rodimus was not originally Hot Rod
- Springer (called Sprung in Superlink; which means the same thing) also makes an appearance
- A few scenes featuring Rodimus and Galvatron fighting each other is quite a big reference to the final battle in the 1986 film
- My least favorite Transformer: A Quintesson (Alpha Q)
- The animation is different than it was in Micron Legend; much like how the animation for The Transformers (1984-1987) was animated by Toei Animation, while the 1986 movie was animated by AKOM (and its style is a little different, as well)
- A completely different soundtrack specifically for the anime is used without reusing the Micron Legend soundtrack
- While songs like “The Touch,” “Dare,” and “Instruments Of Destruction” played at least once in The Transformers: The Movie, the intro and outro songs (“Taiyo no Transform” and “Calling You,” respectively) featured during certain episodes, especially in epic moments featuring fight scenes
- Not only is Kicker Jones a reference to Daniel Witwicky (a young tagalong human who is friends with the Autobots), he is also a composite character with G1 Hot Rod by behavior/attitude (he is quite impulsive, and wants his friends to not give up and fight for what is right)
- The female Transformer, Ariel, is a reference to G1 Arcee, since there was already an Arcee in Micron Legend
- There is a really fast Autobot; for Generation One, it is Blurr, and not only does he go fast, he even talks fast, as well; for Superlink, it is Wing Saber, who is quite an energetic Transformer to begin with (Episodes 26, 28, and the TV special are some well-known examples displaying his speed)
- Unicron looks a little more like his G1 counterpart than he did in Micron Legend
- Both the 1986 film and Superlink have their dark and silly moments, including beloved characters being killed off and Unicron causing destruction, and some slapstick moments regarding the Transformers
There are also some references from the original G1 TV show, as well:
- In both the G1 show and Superlink, an Autobot was killed off, and was reformatted into another, yet very similar, Autobot that is more well-known to many Trans-fans; respectively, they are Orion Pax (now Optimus Prime) and Wing Dagger (now Wing Saber); coincidently, both of their voice actors also voiced Ironhide (both Optimus Prime and Ironhide were voice by Peter Cullen in Generation One; Wing Saber and Ironhide were voiced by Koji Yusa in the original Unicron Trilogy)
- The G1 transformation sound effect is in the show!
- Many Transformers are based on their G1 counterparts, including Inferno, Wheeljack, Skyfire (almost), Omega Supreme, and Lazerwave (his G1 counterpart is called Shockwave, but since there is already a Shockwave in the Unicron Trilogy, the Decepticon’s name is Lazerwave, much like his Japanese version)
- Although they are not the same character, Superlink’s Red Alert and G1 Mirage share a very similar alt-mode, which is a blue Formula One race car
- The Shadowhawk Terrocons almost resemble G1 Lazerbeak; the Command Jaguar Terrocons resemble G1 Ravage; and the therapod Terrocons are called Dinobots (although, some may say they are a reference to Beast Wars’ Dinobot)
- The combiners made appearances in the show, including Buildron (a reference to G1 Devastator, but since there was already a Devastator in Micron Legend, the Decepticon combiner is called Buildron), Bruticus (whose individual combiners even kept their G1 names), and Superion (an Autobot combiner); there are also a few moments with Superion and Omega Supreme, as well, much like in Generation One
- One word: Energon (except, in G1, it is Energon Cubes; Superlink has Energon Stars)
However, being a Mecha anime show, Superlink also has references to other Mecha shows, including Voltron (as well as Beast King Golion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV, due to the Grand Force (Prime Force) serving as Optimus Prime’s (or Grand Convoy) arms and legs), Gundam, and even the Brave Saga (including Brave Police J-Decker, in which I am also watching). The Brave Saga, in particular, are referenced in Superlink, including the following:
- Once the Transformers Superlinked (combined) with one another, we see close-ups of their combining sequence, they call out their forms, strike a pose, and then the battle begins; special mention goes to Optimus Prime/Grand Convoy, with his Super Mode/Hyper Mode (with the Grand Force), Wing Convoy mode (with Wing Saber), and Omega Convoy mode (with Omega Supreme)
- While the Transformers shout, “TRANSFORM!” the Brave robots shout, “CHANGE!” once they transform into their vehicle mode or robot mode
- Both the Transformers and the Brave robots are emotive, and have had many humanized moments, as well
- Since the Transformers and the Brave robots are sentient and can talk, they also have different personalities that makes them what they are as characters
- Both Transformers and the Brave robots have a human companion who fights alongside them
- Both franchises have their awesome, funny, heartwarming, terrifying, and heartbreaking moments that makes their target audiences attached to their works
I could list more references and callbacks that I noticed in Transformers: Superlink, but I will leave it at that, and maybe you can also find references in the show, as well.
Also, as I have mentioned, I am currently watching Brave Police J-Decker, and I have completed 12 episodes, so far; the robots are very similar to Transformers, it has their awesome, funny and heartbreaking moments that motivate me even more to continue the series until the grand finale, and I already got a favorite character since Episode 1, Deckerd, the main Brave Police robot, and the main human character’s companion; and a really cool vehicle mode (also, I discovered another really underrated seiyuu, Toru Furusawa; he also made a brief appearance in Transformers, but he is mostly well-known in the Brave Saga; in fact, he is so underrated that DeviantArt does not have a single stamp or fan art based on him (at least not yet); so, for any anime and seiyuu fans, I would suggest giving this voice actor more recognition, as well).

There was a slam at the door of the dorms of Ragna, where the pop idols Walkure were living.
“Kaname!!” A young man’s voice shouts. His silver hair glew a little in the soft light of the dorm in his arms he carried one of the idols, Mikumo.
“Satoshi-kun?!” Freya calls back,”Kaname’s not here at the moment.... but what’s-“ her voice dropped when she saw her comrade laying in the man’s arms. Her breathing was rough.
“What happened?” She asked.
“We were out shopping. Then she suddenly collapsed.” Satisfying explained. As Freya looked over Mikumo, checking her pulse, her breathing, and last of all she checked her skin warmth.
“She must be running a fever, hurry. Let’s get her to her room.” Freya ushers them into the dorms and up the stairs.
Mikumo lay on her bed, she was still panting, her face was flushed and she was sweating pretty badly.
“Was it something she ate?” Freya asked trying to get all of the details.
“We ate at Chuck’s restaurant. She was eating things that she didn’t normally eat, she kept saying she was feeling it today.” Satoshi explained.
“Sea spiders, jellyfish ramen, also some sparkling water, that’s it. But she collapsed almost three hours after we ate. Up until then she was completely fine.”
“Mmm Sato... where..” a soft voice rang behind them. The woman on the bed breathlessly spoke through her panting.
“Miku, you collapsed, I brought you back to the dorms.” The silver haired man knelt next to her. Taking her hand,”Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t feeling so good?” He asked.
Maroon eyes looked away for a moment to Freya,”Can him and I talk in private Freya?”
The young girl nods then leaves the room.

About 30 minutes pass by.
Freya was waiting patiently outside of the room. Soon Satoshi came staggering out.
“Satoshi-kun?” Freya asked worried for him. But he kept walking until he hit the sofa downstairs. Plopping himself down, his eyes looked like they were filled with panic.
Freya’s rune perked up. Now she was really worried. Opening the door to Mikumo’s room she asked,”Mikumo-san daisobu desuka?”
“Freya.. hai.. come here. I want to tell you something..” Mikumo spoke quietly. She was now sitting up in bed. Her long violet hair draped around her like a violet waterfall.
The orangette paced over to her slowly,”A-Are you okay? I saw Satoshi was looking a little scared.”
“Oh..” the older woman sighed breathlessly. “It’s a bit scary for both of us.”
“What is?” The girl sat by the other. Taking one of her hands.
Freya could feel Mikumo’s body tremble,”Something that will take me out of the team for a while, I won’t be able to sing with you four on stage.”
“Why. Are you sick?”
“No no.. Freya.. I’m having a baby...” maroon eyes looked down at her lap.
Worry turned to shock. Then shock became wonder. “Really?!” Freya nearly shouted as her eyes filled with glee.
“Hai~ I even wore my sweater to hide my little baby bump today, here..” Mikumo takes the hand she was holding and pressed it onto her middle, for sure was a small bump there.
“Wow..” The rune a top Freya’s head was pulsating with joy. “Don’t be scared Mikumo-san, you’ve got all of us here~” small arms wrap around the purplette’s body as Freya gives her a big hug,”Congratulations!”
Mikumo started to tear up a little, not of fear nor sadness, but of joy. “Arigatou..”

Around 5pm the rest of Walkure had returned from their shopping. Kaname and Makina were emptying their bags as Reina played with the mercats.
Mikumo walks down to the kitchen where her team leader and mechanic was.
“Good Evening..” she said calmly. Kaname looked up from what she was doing.
“Oh. Mikumo. We didn’t know you were home. Thought you were still out with Satoshi-kun?” She asked.
Mikumo sighs,”We came back a bit early. I was feeling a bit under the weather.”
“You? Sick?That’s new.” Makina piped up. “At least you look like you’re feeling better Kumo-Kumo.” She have her a toothy smile as she put some canned food in the pantry.
“Yeah.. sure.” She looked down and played with a bottle of sesame oil.
“There’s actually something else as well. Hey Reina,” Mikumo called to the smallest of their team out in the living room.
“Hai?” Reina called back as she stood and skipped over to the kitchen.
“Mikumo?”
“Kumo-Kumo?” Both in the kitchen asked.
Mikumo just lifted the tank she was wearing and turned to the side. To show off her baby bump.
“I-is that what I t-think it is?!” Makina asked with a stutter. Which was met with Mikumo’s nod. “Kumo-Kumo!” She squeals and bounces up and down.
Kaname was frozen. “We have a concert tonight Mikumo... are you going to sit it out?” She walks over to her companion and touched her shoulder.
“Not this one. I can perform again until I’m showing too much. Please Kaname?” Mikumo begged. Pulling her shirt back down. “I slept most of the day today anyway. I’m alert.”
Makina and Reina held hands in their cutest signature style. “Music is Love,” Reina started.
Makina giggles,”Music is Hope~” she connected her fingers to Reina’s making the Walkure symbol.
“Music is Life~” Kaname held a pair of fingers out to Mikumo who smiles softly nodding then she spoke.
“Music is Mystery.” As she connected two of her fingers to also make the symbol of Walkure.
They then heard a loud crash and ran to where it happened. In the living room. Freya had ran to the kitchen to join them. But had ended up on the floor after tripping over Mirage’s Mercat.
“Music is..... Energy!!” She groans out with a smile. Making the rest of them smile and laugh a little.
Mikumo knelt down and helped Freya off the floor.
“So she tell you?!” She asks a bit loudly. Kaname shushed her.
“Yes she did~ How do you know?” Kaname wrapped her arm around Mikumo’s waist.
“Oh. I was home when she and Satoshi-kun came back. He’s up stairs sleeping his shock away~ *wink*” she winks at Mikumo.
“Oh. Definitely can see him trying to calm down after such wonderful news.” Reina said quietly. “Papa..” she whispers.
A slight blush came over Mikumo’s face,”Uhhh Reina~” she waved bashfully at the smaller one.
“We should get ready for our concert.” Kaname spoke out.
“Hai!” The rest accepted.

A two hour concert happened around 9:30 pm to almost Midnight.

Around the second to last song Mikumo was getting a bit out of breath. She leaned forward trying to catch her breath.
“Can everyone cheer on Mikumo-san! Our newly wed of the group!” Kaname shouts into the mic catching Mikumo’s attention.
Loud cheering filled the seats around the stage.
Mikumo’s crimson eyes looked at her leader in confusion.
“You see she’s a bit out of practice!” Makina jokes around.
“Make sure to cheer extra loud for her!! Keep her going!” Freya cheered as well.
Reina checked her personal screen,”Vitals are fine!” She looks at Mikumo who’s in a state of surprise. ‘I was married 5 years ago. Tho..’
Kaname turned off her mic for a sec to talk to Mikumo,”We know, But they don’t~ it’s easier to tell people that you’re newly wedded instead of saying your gonna have a baby. Right?~”
The woman to her right nods and subconsciously reached for her middle. But played it off as her catching her breath with a bow.
“Our last song of the night will be Hametsu no Junjo!” Mikumo called out as their costumes changed. “Then our encore will be Ikenai Borderline! So keep up!”

After the concert was autograph signing. All of the ladies were sitting at their respective places signing T-shirt’s and figurines.
Satoshi had shown up and was sitting with Mikumo. Hiding his face with some sunglasses and a hoodie. “How’d it go?” He asked taking her free hand under the table.
“It went well, was a little out of breath towards the end but I’m fine now~” she reassured him. Squeezing his hand a little.
“Brought you something,” He holds out a little bracelet, engraved with their initials and on the back it made a hologram of the gender of child they would have, it was showing both as its base setting.
“Sato-kun~ I love it~” she leans onto him like a sideways hug.
A fan noticed the couple and ran up to Mikumo’s booth.
“Mikumo-san! Is this your new husband?!” She asks.
Crimson eyes closed as she nods. Making the young girl cheer happily,”Congratulations!!” The fan cheers. This made the singer blush her other hand set in her lap, on her belly. She gave a small smile. “Arigato~”

Around 1:30 am the group finally returned back to their home.
All the girls yawn and stretch. Another concert done.
Mikumo sat gently onto the plush couch in the living room. Letting out a long sigh,”You.. are tiring me out already..” she spoke quietly directing her voice to her middle.
“Kumo-Kumo, can we see your belly again?” Makina asked from behind the couch with Reina.
“T-There’s not much to see yet Makina..” she protests with a blush.
“Pwease~~” Reina whines cutely.
“......*sigh* oh alright...” Mikumo sighed reluctantly and patted the cushions beside her,”Sit.”
The two girls sat on either side of her waiting in anticipation. Mikumo tentatively pulled up her shirt showing her belly, and the little mound that was forming there.
“See..” she said wistfully. Then jumped when both girls set their cold hands on her. “Eek! Your hands are cold!” She tries to pull away but she’s surrounded. Kaname was watching from overhead.
“Mikumo the Mama, has a nice ring to it~” she teased.
“Kaname!” Mikumo whines. Which was met with a giggle from the three.
“What do you think you’ll have?” Reina asks with a whisper like tone.
“I’m fine with either, although I want a little girl.” Mikumo smiles.
“Miku~ I’m going to be off tour for a few months so I’ll be here with you~” Satoshi smiles as he leans over the three on the couch.
“But then I have to go back on it for a few months later. I should be back before you have our baby. But. I have a friend who will stay with you too. Because we all know you’ll have to take maternity leave from Walkure.” He leans in and gives her a kiss.
“Who’s your friend?” Kaname asks.
“Oh. She’s from the Isle of Frontier, she is great friends with Sheryl.” He replies.
