First half of Shirabe Meshi chapter 31 is out and this time we got the girls...wanting to learn ninjutsu from Ogawa
Maria, as shown in a previous chapter, already knows a little bit from working with him as an agent and wants to further her skills while Chris and Shirabe were dragged along by the obvious suspects.
So yeah, Ogawa has set up a uh, "ninja labyrinth" with the help of Noble Red (it's Daedalus End). Basically the girls have to make it to the end of the obstacle course they set up with only one rule: They can't use their Symphogears. Whoever clears it will receive the training.
As you could probably imagine, it starts out with Hibiki and Kirika having a blast and certain others...not nearly as thrilled
But then they run into a curved wall they have to find a way over. Hibiki just charges it and makes it up, Maria using a grappling hook after that. Kirika whines that it's not fair, but Maria points out that the only rule was that they couldn't use their Gears.
Kirika and Shirabe try to go over and fail so Kirika and Chris help Shirabe up. She then lowers a rope for the other two to climb
Over the wall, they run into Elsa using V-Combine and she manages to separate most of the group since they can't really stand up to her without their Gears. As Shirabe and Kirika are walking, Kirika starts complaining that Shirabe's cooking actually kinda sucks at times.
Yeah, if it wasn't obvious, that ain't Kirika
The others are going through their own illusions (Kirika gets to eat a lot of Shirabe's food and Maria is surrounded by a bunch of Serenas to dote on)
Hibiki comes across "Miku" and is confused why she's even there at first, but "Miku" starts saying stuff like "Hibiki...you always just solve everything by punching it, don't you? So those fists ARE just meant for hurting others!"
To which Hibiki punches "her"
"Miku...Miku...WOULD NEVER SAY THAT!"
And realizes it was an illusion, so she goes to check on the others.
Meanwhile, Chris has started slapping around Maria to snap her out of hers (we don't get to see whatever Chris saw, unfortunately)
Hibiki manages to get Shirabe and Kirika out of theirs
Hibiki: "Are you okay?"
Kirika: "That was the best illusion ever!" Shirabe: "That was the worst illusion ever."
So yeah, that was also part of the test. That's where this half of the chapter ends. Second half will be next week.

SOCIAL POWER
Come sempre…

Oh hey, it's time for the first half of chapter 29 of Shirabe Meshi
Everyone at SONG is worked up because the Nephilim has run away. Maria and Serena suspect it may be because they put the kotatsu away (if you remember, the Nephilim got upset over that last chapter)
But Elfnein tells everyone to not worry, because the Nephilim actually has a tracking device in its collar, so she tracks its location to...Dr. Ver's laboratory.
At his lab, Ver is seen talking to the Nephilim, about how it got treated as a pet despite being a complete relic and how unfortunately he doesn't have relics or sweets to eat (but also that once they become one, they'll be able to have all they want)
Yeah, it's fairly obvious Ver wants his Nephilim arm back
A small group from SONG bursts into the lab demanding the Nephilim back
But Ver answers "My arm is good, now scram." Everyone is clearly irritated with him and Genjuro prepares to just beat him up to get it back but Serena asks everyone to wait
She says that if they force it to go back, it'll just leave again, because the relationship between them has been shaken up
And the thing that ties them together is--
Good food! (Kirika: "I was hoping you'd say 'trust'")
She had been feeding the Nephilim nothing but diet dog food and would give apples as treats, and meanwhile she'd eat enough doughnuts for three people right in front of the Nephilim, including one meant for it. She apologizes to it and declares that they'll get it back with something good to eat
And how else to you prepare to make something than to uh...change into a patissier costume (Serena and Kirika get one too)
Shirabe, I have some questions actually, do you just...carry these around with you or...?
So the food they're going to make to get the Nephilim to come back will be...doughnuts! Dr. Ver's stomach starts growling upon hearing this.
The first half ends there. The second half will be in a week...on Shirabe's birthday

naviarhaiku496 – mountain’s red leaves
mountain’s red leaves the setting sun returns to the sky
Among the four great masters of Japanese haiku, Kobayashi Issa was the most prolific: during his lifetime he wrote over 20,000 haiku, hundreds of tanka, and several haibun. If you want to find out more about this prolific author I suggest you check out this database of his haiku.
From the Haiku Guy website:
“Literally, Issa says that the autumn foliage “returns the setting sun to the sky” (irihi wo sora e kaesu). Is he saying that the leaves on the mountain are so bright and red, the setting sun has returned to the sky?
Shinji Ogawa has also mulled over this haiku. He suggests that perhaps “the red leaves reflect the rays of the evening sun to the sky; that is why the sky glows so red.”
Seven days to make music in response to the assigned haiku: to participate visit https://www.naviarrecords.com/about/naviar-haiku
Deadline: 12th July 2023
