Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land ‘Synthesis’ trailer, 30 minutes of gameplay - Gematsu
Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust have released a new trailer, information, and screenshots for Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land introducing new combat and synthesis details. Plus, over 30 minutes of gameplay was showcased during this weekend’s second official broadcast for the game.
Get the details below.
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land follows the adventures of Yumia Liessfeldt and her companions as they set off to unravel the mysteries behind the cataclysm that destroyed the once great continent of Aladiss, resulting in alchemy becoming taboo. Mysterious characters obsessed with alchemy such as a Noble in a Black Cloak (voiced by Shin-ichiro Miki), a Monocular Werewolf (voiced by Takehito Koyasu), a Sheep-Eye Witch (voiced by Yoko Hikasa), and a Dragon-Winged Warrior (voiced by Takaya Kuroda) stand in Yumia’s way. To prepare for the adventure ahead, players will rediscover the Atelier franchise’s signature synthesizing system in a fresh form by manipulating “mana” to create new items useful in combat or exploration. To create more powerful items, fans will have to master the art of “Resonance Synthesis” by adding ingredients which resonate with each other to the “Alchemy Core” of the recipe. The strength of the resonance will depend on the quality of the ingredients selected. The combat system has also been revamped in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land to offer intense real-time combat with intuitive gameplay. The skills available to active team members will depend on their distance from the enemy (close or ranged combat). Compared to previous instalments, players can now move or interchange characters at any time during the fight. When certain conditions are met, a powerful “Friend Action” combo can be unleashed in battle. By meeting certain conditions, players will be able to activate “Mana Surge,” which will allow for exclusive actions to be performed. In addition, each character will have a unique special move, “Maximize Mana Surge,” which can inflict significant damage on enemies. Journeying alongside Yumia and her friends, players will explore the vast open world of the Aladiss continent. As they travel, they will be able to build their own bases. Thanks to the new “Building” feature, fans will freely be able to create and decorate their atelier from a vast choice of walls, floors, roofs, furniture, and more, or choose to select a predefined base model from the catalog. By increasing the “comfort level” of their atelier, players will unlock bonuses such as the ability to develop their base and enhance the skills of Yumia and her companions. Lastly, if players do not wish to return to their base during exploration, they will be able to set up a camp where they can spend time cooking, which will provide various benefits during exploration and combat, or resting. Certain character events that can only be seen at camps will sometimes occur, providing greater insight into Yumia and her companions. Everyone who purchases either a physical or digital edition up to two weeks after release will receive the “Athlete of Memories” early purchase costume for Yumia, the “Floating Object of Memories” costume for Flammi, and the unique “Training Wrist Weight” equipment.
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is due out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam on March 21, 2025 worldwide.

Profiles in Villainy
The Team Rocket Trio
Team Rocket (also known as the Rocket Gang) is a villainous organization that endeavors to capture, experiment upon and exploit Pokémon for the purposes of gaining power and wealth. The operation is based in the Kanto and Johto regions and is run by its vile and scheming overboss, Giovanni.
The Team Rocket Trio, consisting Jessie, James and the talking Pokémon Meowth, are agents of the Rocket Gang tasked with abducting a particularly powerful Pikachu from the young Pokémon trainer, Ask Ketchum.
Although clever, resourceful and creative, the threesome have never been able to capture Pikachu, usually due to mishaps, bumbling and just plain lousy luck. Not that it had deterred them as the three continue to come up with complicated (often harebrained) schemes to get their hands on Pikachu.
Jessie sees herself as the leader of the squad. She is a vain and ambitious young woman. Her mother had also been a member of the Rocket Game, but was lost during a mission resulting Jessie having to live in foster care for much of her childhood. She sublimated her feelings of loss and deprivation into a drive to win and at any and all costs. Although she often acts haughty and conceded, Jessie harbors a great deal of sadness and insecurity. She is a shrewd tactician and demanding leader.
James is Jessie’s partner and best friend. He came from a wealthy family where his every action and activity was controlled by his overbearing parents and governesses. He was betrothed at a young age to the daughter of another wealthy family and was planning on marrying her until he saw that she was just as mean and controlling as his parents. As such, he ran away, leaving behind everything and joining a criminal bicycle gang in Sunnytown.
Sometime thereafter, James was recruited into the Rocket Gang and partnered with Jessie. Although the two came from very different backgrounds, the pair got along extremely well. James is a master of disguise; his soft features and lithe frame enables him to disguise himself as a girl in a very convincing fashion.
Meowth, meanwhile, is an especially clever Pokémon who taught himself to speak because a Persian he was in love with appeared to prefer the company of humans. Meowth had previously been the personal assistant to Giovanni yet his recurrent clumsiness resulted in his being demoted and reassigned as a partner to Jessie and James.
Meowth is far and away the smartest member of the trio. In that he is a Pokémon, however, Jessie and James rarely pay heed to his warnings regarding how a plan is sure to go awry.
The nefarious intentions of the Rocket Gang notwithstanding, The Team Rocket Trio are not truly villainous souls; they have even often showed moments of honor and compassion. The three just want to be valued and feel like they belong and they do not share the malevolent attitudes of Giovanni.
Actresses Akiko Hiramatsu and Megumi Hayashibara provided the voice for Jessie in the anime series (with Rachael Lillis and Michele Knotz voicing the character in the English dub); whereas actor Shin-ichiro Miki voices James in the anime (with Ted Lewis and Carter Cathcart voicing the character in the English dub); and Inuko Inuyama voices Meowth (with Nathan Price and Maddie Blaustein voicing the character in the English dub).
Team Rocket first appeared in the second episode of the original Pokémon anime, airing on April 8th, 1997.

Tite Kubo x Masakazu Morita Interview
Interviewer: Please tell us how you felt when it was decided that BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War was going to be animated ten years after the series had ended?
Morita-san: Upon hearing that it’s been ten years, I thought, “Ten years have already passed since then?!” It doesn’t feel like a lot of time has passed.
Kubo Sensei: I feel the same way as Morita-san.
Morita-san: Even though the anime ended, I still received the opportunity to have had my voice recorded for the mobile game Bleach: Brave Souls. And so, I think that’s why I didn't feel the long span of a decade.
Kubo Sensei: I think the game provided the voice actors a chance to continue voicing the characters, which in turn helps to maintain the connection the actors have to the roles they used to play, as well as their feelings.
Morita-san: Yes, voice-acting for a game ensures that your passion doesn’t decline. The game also helped maintain my connection to our fans that are not only in Japan, but also in Asia, Europe, and America. I am grateful to Klab because they have put a lot of effort into this. Speaking of which, the lines recorded for the game is done with each person’s individual dialogue, whereas in anime recordings, they are actual conversations between characters. In that sense, it’s been a while since us actors have had the chance to engage in a “conversation” together.
Kubo Sensei: Certainly. What you hear in the game are not really actual “conversations.”
Morita-san: That’s right. And that’s also why I was afraid to exchange words in a conversation. But as soon as I heard the other cast member’s voice, I relaxed and responded naturally in my own character’s voice.
Kubo Sensei: That’s amazing. It's like the ears remember, and thus what triggers the voice.
Morita-san: Exactly! That’s exactly what happened. It’s like my ears recall the memories from long time ago.
Interviewer: Please tell us if there’s anything that has or hasn’t changed from ten years ago.
Kubo Sensei: For Thousand-Year Blood War, I’ve been participating in the recording sessions. The returning characters would narrate some of their lines to me and asked for my thoughts like, “What do you think, Sensei?” But most of the time I would just say, “Yup that’s the voice I remember.” As Morita-san said, the VAs remember their tones much more than I do.
Morita-san: But even the veteran VAs were a little worried. Even (Shin-ichiro) Miki-san asked me, “Does this sound like Urahara?”
Kubo Sensei: After episodes 1 and 2 of Thousand-Year Blood War were shown at the advance screening event in September 2022, my family commented that Ichigo’s voice had changed. In my mind, I thought that was interesting because the change in Morita-san’s voice perfectly captured Ichigo’s character growth, so I never sensed any difference. And actually, I didn’t even notice that Morita-san’s voice has changed. But when I asked him, “Has it really changed?” he replied, “It’s completely different. How could you not notice it?” (laughs) But in my opinion, Ichigo in Thousand-Year Blood War is supposed to sound this way, so this is great.
Morita-san: I’m very glad that Kubo-sensei is so satisfied! I am voicing things like “Getsugatensho” in a way I never did before, like for example the “ga” sound. And especially at the end of consonants, where I’m adding a few embellishments. I also slightly raised the volume of my mid-baritone and I tried to slightly increase my range and make it sound stronger. I’ve lengthened the time it takes to pronounce “ge,” “tsu,” and “ga,” in order to give them more weight. But then it's not too noticeable of a change, especially for those who don't look for it. Originally, when I first read BLEACH in Weekly Shonen Jump, I imagined that Ichigo spoke in a voice different from my own.
Kubo Sensei: Is that the same for Rukia’s voice actor, and so on? Like do you have specific VAs in mind?
Morita-san: No, I didn’t because it's more like an idea of how each character would sound. It’s the same for Ichigo too. I have an idea of his voice. And he has grown a lot in Thousand-Year Blood War. So I am trying to achieve an image that fits him now. I am happy that you like it, that means I can sleep comfortably tonight (laughs).
Interviewer: As the general supervisor, Kubo-sensei, and as the lead VA, Morita-san, please tell us about a memorable event that happened during the production of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War?
Kubo Sensei: The thing that was most memorable was that Takayuki Sugo-san, who plays Yhwach, had a hard time memorizing lines in katakana. And after being told how to say them for several times, he said, “Ok, write it in hiragana.” (laughs) He spoke in such a cool voice, so that made it even funnier. (laughs)
Morita-san: Sugo-san never changes, right? That happened during the previous series as well. He asked me, “Ichigo, Ichigo, how do you read this line?” and I said, “It says, Bankai.” Then he was like, “Oh... Got it. Bankai?” But as soon as the recording started, he said something else. (laughs)
Kubo Sensei: Yhwach indeed has plenty of lines in Thousand-Year Blood War, and they are very difficult.
Morita-san: Every time he comes to the studio, he would ask, “Even more lines this time?” So I said to him, “Sugo-san, your character will have the most lines in Thousand-Year Blood War.” And then he replied, “Really? Can’t we do something about that?” (laughs)
Kubo Sensei: (laughs)
Morita-san: A memorable event for me was when we recorded the interactions with Ouetsu Nimaiya. Thousand-Year Blood War is the very first time we see Squad Zero make their appearance. So I got to witness the process of their VAs working to build and develop their characters. Seeing a character gain flesh and blood, and then turn into a full-fledged character right before my eyes was impressive. I thought Squad Zero was so cool.
Kubo Sensei: Squad Zero is great, isn’t it? Sound Director Yukio Nagasaki and Sound Producer Yosuke Morita are the ones in charge of how the voices sound and they were really particular about it. It's no question for Nagasaki-san, but Morita-san’s interpretations are also overflowing with love for the characters.
Morita-san: Well done, Yo-chan. When this interview is published, I think he’s really going to let it go to his head. (laughs)
Kubo Sensei: From the beginning, the cast has been spot on and has a wonderful grasp of their own characters. For example, Daiki Yamashita, who plays Ryunosuke, and Asami Seto, who plays Shino. Their characters don’t appear in many scenes, but due to the excellent work of the VAs, I think their characters have been fleshed out well.
Morita-san: Please, kindly explain more.
Kubo Sensei: It’s difficult to put into words. It’s the same feeling I get when I hear your voice. I didn't know what kind of voice would fit those characters, but then the VAs had a good grasp of them. It was refreshing to have new faces join the show and I thought that was perfect.
Morita-san: I enjoyed my interactions with Renji because it felt like we were bringing back the relationship we’d cultivated over the years. Like with the scenes where he and I are soaking in Kirinji’s hot spring, or we are eating food together. And it was fun to have the opportunity to have a conversation with Kentaro (Renji's VA) in the same booth as there were a lot of separate recordings during the COVID-19 pandemic. And when I noticed that our lines were overlapping, Nagasaki-san said, “Don’t worry about it. Just interact naturally as if he was there.” When we returned, the way Kentaro and I let loose was incredible. (laughs) The refreshing feeling and excitement of new cast joining us for Thousand-Year Blood War is perfectly balanced with the reassuring feeling with the returning cast.

Going from watching Bleach where Shin-ichiro Miki voices a complete goofball, Urahara Kisuke, to Gundam 00 where he voices a laid-back but fairly serious character, Lockon Stratos, is honestly kinda jarring.

Another case I recently found out is that Shin-ichiro Miki, N!Alucard's VA, voiced Richter in Nocturne of Recollection. Huh.
Also I know that N!Hector's VA voiced Griffith in the Berserk movie trilogy, which gives me all sorts of confused feelings 😂
Some japanese VA in Netfixvania voiced once game characters.
Main exemple is VA for N!Trevor also voiced Game!Alucard in SotN.
#eh i'm glad the majority of the main vas didn't come back for the show#i don't want to think about it

Reasons to listen to the Team Rocket Radio Show even though you don't understand a word of Japanese (like me)
There is this super helpful summary (by Dogasu) of the first three episodes and the last one, so you actually can sort of understand what's being said in these
The TRio's incredibly soothing, familiar voices. I'm in heaven.
In the anime they usually laugh short and in sync and i love this, but I didn't know how much I needed to hear them laughing together spontaneously and in disorder. Let me tell you, it sounds incredible.
All three are so loud and they talk all at once and it sounds so natural and so balanced
They have some fixed segments that have a formula that's easy to understand, for example a guess-the-song bit. If you concentrate you can guess what's being said, and who guessed the song right for example (the summary i mentioned helps you understand those segments)
Inuko (meowth) sometimes laughs while speaking and that sounds so adorable???? Picture meowth having issues speaking bc whatever j&j said was too funny akshdlkfsgshsff
A very intense beginning. I had no idea. They actually address the things that happened in BW and that they didn't like being this serious ... :o
The episodes are all on YouTube (search for ロケット団ひみつ帝国) (here's EP1)
Jessie and James randomly teasing Meowth. And pushing off any responsibility onto him. Love it.
Shin-ichiro's (James') loud uncontrolled laughter sometimes? Just lovely
They host Pokémon VAs which is fun (when you know the Japanese voices a bit)
They sing along with the songs sometimes
They have so much fun on this show. It's so chaotic and there's so much laughter and i'm just sitting here grinning and everything's right with the world.
So basically, it's an incredible seretonin booster and I'm so glad it exists even if I can't understand a word <3
