B-T fan returns to Japan 2015 - part 2: the side project
Since the main point of my trip was to see The Mortal live, let’s talk about The Mortal!
First, I hit up several record stores to see how I could go further into debt. Several stores had some displays for The Mortal and tour goods for sale, or just Buck-Tick displays and stuff. Images from store displays below. The Tower Records in Shibuya is the most notable because The Mortal played an exclusive show there. I didn’t bother to try to qualify because my itinerary was quite full for the trip and I was satisfied enough that I had a ticket to one concert. No need trying to win a ticket and getting my hopes up and missing a day of turbo mode tourism.
Now, on to the show! I went to Studio Coast in Shin-Kiba. To me this venue is notable for another side project, Hisashi’s Lucy recorded a live video there.
They had lockers so I bought a bunch of merchandise and threw it in a locker. Tickets were general admission and by the time I hit the floor, it was more crowded than I would have liked but I haven’t seen any member in forever so I don’t care. I’m just happy to be here.
There’s no photos at major label artist shows and fans are pretty respectful of this so I have nothing from when the band was on stage. The little old lady in front of me never wavered. She stood like a rock! She was so short but so solid. I wish I have such endurance to watch a live show when I’m her age. Much respect to you!
Here are the obligatory flowers from friends and companies. I don’t really get this practice but then again I’m not into flowers. I think it’s a waste of farmland that could be used for food.
After hearing all the songs, I was really glad that I was being so weirdly paranoid about my mortality and chose to go to this show. The Mortal by themselves don’t have enough songs for a full 2 hour show that seems to be standard so they also played Atsushi solo songs. Since I never saw Atsushi perform solo, it was a welcome treat for the ears. I still think though that he was pushed too far for some songs and his voice does not have the range needed.
The show started at 7:05pm and ended at 9:30pm according to my notes. At the beginning of the first encore, Yukio played with a theremin bow thing. Honestly, I can picture his silhouette on this but I have to go back and watch the live video they sold to remember exactly what he was doing and what it sounded like. That is, I assume he did the same thing at every show because the video is from another night. At the beginning of the second encore, it was Jake’s turn to show off so he did his solo thing.

He should rejoice. At being selected. Out of all others to be the one picked to come with her. Normally a task for the most trusted. Upper moon one. More often than naught, hiding within the shadows and following, but at times. Lesser demons. Unranked demons.
Those that showed some promise to her.
Had been picked to come with her to the capital and now more than ever. The main priority of the moons was her safety. To know that the slayers. Had found her once more after five hundred years. Of thinking them as nothing more than idiots. Nothing more than children in many ways. But one of them. That brat. Had managed to track her down and enter her hunting grounds. Confront her, question her, scream, wail and shout at her.
Had he been stronger.
Fighting was so … beneath her.
Why do it when she had others to do such a thing. Why risk her life. As impossible as it was. That death was nothing more than a laughable concept for her. She would never, place herself in risk, in harm, in the way of a blade. Even if there was none here, within the land, within the world who could kill her, she could not gamble like that, never take a risk when her own life was on the line.
If she died, they all died.
“A city, it is quite impressive. The humans are expanding, opening their minds, embracing new cultures, ideas and embracing, the most wonderful of all concepts that have allowed demons to reign for a thousand years. Change.”
She looked him over. Bare chested, bloody, tusks, claws, fangs. The killer look within his eyes. Messy, so uncivilized. As she turned her head to the side, the panel door appearing out of thin air and shifting and pulling to the side opening as she walked within, with the little demon following. As they entered room as she reached to the table, numerous clothing and items there, as she grabbed him a cloak, something to at least, cover his body and a hood to pull over his head to hide his features as she would point at it, walking across the room, another door opening, that lead into a dark alleyway, but the sounds of countless humans, the hum of sounds that would be … unknown to him and the brightness of neon lights shinning through. This was her world and he was being granted the chance to come to understand, what demons of high ranks, needed to be able to do, for her.
“Get changed and follow. Do not raise your hand to a human here, less I command you.”
That capital place sounded like heaven and hell at the same time. It was an endless supply of meals, for sure... but Kiba understood that he wasn’t to eat the humans there. At least, not the way he just devoured the isolated villages. The master wanted to lay low, to avoid the slayers’ attention... the blend in with the humans.
The idea repulsed Kiba more than death, but he had no choice. If he wanted to keep the Lord’s favors, he had to comply, if only for a few nights.
He followed her through the door, licking at the blood that covered his dark claws. He eyed the piece of cloth with confusion, unsure what to do with it, until she ordered him to get changed. Was he supposed to... wear that thing?
He reluctantly grabbed the cloak, and wrapped it around his shoulders. He figured out that it was meant to be worn over the head as well, and pulled the hood on his luscious hair, concealing his face in the shadow. That part he didn’t mind so much, as if hiding his face from view was only natural.
His gaze snapped to the other door. He could smell them, he could feel them, the numerous humans walking the world past this door. It was alluring, as much as it repulsed him. His Blood Art was another manifestation of it, his urge to create large spaces for himself, to push others away, to crush whoever dared to stand in his vicinity.
He wasn’t allowed to do so. Kiba bit deep into his own lips as he followed after the master, face and chest concealed by the cape. A sharp nose might pick up on the stench of blood that clung to his skin, but otherwise, the young demon would go perfectly unnoticed.
It was so much worse than he’d imagined. The crowds, the blinding lights, the noises... Holding back his bloodlust took all of his will power. Kiba visibly trembled under his cape, fists tightly clenched, claws digging into his own palms.

- Is a little grumpy about the fact that he wants to be a little taller but he doesn’t mind a partner who’s taller than him. Except if someone else is pointing it out. They'll better start running now cause a storm's coming their way...

- Actually you being tall is great! Kiba doesn’t have to be worried about you being crushed by him (cause he likes it rough) and you're simply looking so freaking badass! He’s smiling proudly whenever he’s looking your way (remember his cute fangs on this occasion)

- Kiba will literally not shut up about you. Before you're attending matches or exams he will literally yell about how smart and awesome you are and that you’ll do better than everyone else

- Actually really enjoys you holding him during hugs and at night (My hc is that Kiba’s actually a cuddle bug)
- Loves it when you hug him from behind and rest your head on his shoulder or head. He'll even sway from side to side with you

- You fit together so well! Kiba has a temper like a flamethrower and sometimes likes to pick fights. When you’re with him people are already mindful of you two. Should someone still pick a fight with your boyfriend you can easily hold him back
- If you ever try to do the thing where you hold items out of his reach he'll literally kick your shin (or slap your butt, depends on his mood)

“What the hell do you want?” Kiba had already leaned in instinctively, violently ignoring the fact that he had to crane his neck uncomfortably for your stare-off.
His blood was already boiling in his veins under your teasing touch. You winked before you spoke, making sure to rile him up just a tic more. “Need a kiss~”
Angry mutters were muffled as Kiba pressed his lips against yours. He growled deep in his throat when you kept smirking, roughly pulling you down by your collar for an inch or two. The small moan leaving your lips gave him free entry to your mouth, licking his tongue against yours in a heated kiss.
He cursed against your lips as you pulled his hair. “Shit, baby, let's take this inside.”
“Don't want an audience?”
He gave a playful tap to your butt.
“Shut up. It’s cold.”

Think Things Through [prt. 2]
Prt. 1
Mei sat at a table, grumbling and glowering, annoyed with her friends, Sakura and Naruto. She had kicked Naruto enough times, his children should feel the bruising on his shin. Granted they took her out for food after the mission, she was still irritated.
"Hi!" Hinata greeted making her way to their table with, surprisingly, Neji in tow.
"Kiba said you guys got back this morning." Hinata slipped in the seat next to Naruto and Sakura, allowing Neji to take the place next to Mei, who tried her best not to blush. "How was the mission?"
The question suddenly sent Mei blushed into a redder hue as her eyes narrowed in anger. She once again grumbled lowly and glared hard at the table.
"Forgive me if I'm mistaken," Neji started with a raised brow. "But I'm not sure the table deserves such harsh language."
Mei growled before dropping her head on the table. Once. Twice. Almost three times before Neji put his hand under her head.
Both joining parties looked at Naruto and Sakura for answers. "She's just upset that she got into it with two squirrels… and lost." Sakura sang.
"I didn't lose! They were just… really hard to get away from…" Mei tried to sound less pathetic. "They have really sharp claws! I was at a disadvantage, I could've lost an eye!"
They all laughed at her bitterness and she only grumbled more. "Here, let me see." Neji tried to lift her head but she resisted.
"No," She whined. "It's all ugly…"
"Mei." He encouraged.
Grumbling, she finally let him lift her face from the table. He gently pushed her hair from her face, and rolled his eyes at her pout before looking at the scratch marks over her eye. It didn't look bad at all, really it seemed they were exaggerating to tease her, while Mei nursed a bruised ego.
"It doesn't look ugly at all, Mei. Sakura healed it so it should be gone soon." He rubbed his thumb over it, gently.
Naruto cleared his throat and shot Neji a cheeky look that she missed. A look that turned his smile back to a frown and caused him to pull away from Mei quite a bit. Mei also frowned a bit, he never stayed too close to her. Sometimes when they were alone, but not too often. The thoughts started to deepen her frown...
"Imma head home, I'm tired. Thanks for lunch, Naruto. Bye!" Mei jumped over the booth and started out the restaurant.
"Wait! Let me walk you home, it’s getting dark." Neji followed her. Mei just nodded with a small smile. If he was nothing else, he was a gentleman.
Their walk was quiet, but not unbearably silent. Mei hummed quietly, kicking a small pebble ahead. She had waited for Neji to hold her hand, step closer, talk to her… Something! But, alas, he kept to himself.
Now the walk was unbearably silent.
She thought that once feelings were admitted and out in the air, things would be different. But, within the last two weeks, the only thing that changed is small kisses, and again, that's only behind closed doors occasionally, when she kissed his cheek. She was surprised by the PDA he showed today and hoped he might show more, but maybe she was just being greedy.
That thought made her feel gross and needy. She hoped she was never one of those clingy girlfriends, really she didn’t think she was, no other boyfriend had mentioned it. Maybe she didn’t notice that her neediness bothered them? She was quite aloof to others and what they were thinking.
That would explain the shortness of all her relationships. Wait. Were she and Neji even together? She kept saying girlfriend and relationship, but he’d never mentioned her being his girlfriend, or even asked her to be his girlfriend.
That was the problem! Was she expecting relationship like qualities from something that wasn’t a relationship! But what about the slight affection he gave her. Now she was confused…
“Mei?” Neji called.
“Hmm?” She blinked back into reality. “Yeah?”
“You’re home.” He said, pointing at her door.
“Oh?” When had they gotten to her apartment? She looked over at him and really wanted nothing more than to kiss him on the cheek but instead opted out. “Goodbye, have a nice night!”
She’d have to figure this out, in order to keep this going right.
A few days later, sparring with Ino, Mei was most definitely losing the hand to hand battle they were having. The idea was to imagine having nothing but their hands. No jutsu or tools. Something told Mei she was fucked if it truly came down to it.
“Ow, shit…” She grumbled as her back came in contact with the hard ground beneath them.
“I didn’t even throw you that hard.” Ino smirked, turning away
“Piss off, sunflower.” Mei kicked her in her knee, sending her to the ground.
She hurried to jump atop her, pressing her knee to her spine and grabbing her elbows. She pulled back and smiled when Ino grunted in pain. After a moment or two, Ino tried to tap but Mei ignored her.
“I will only let you go if you get me a plate of Daifuku.” Mei bargained.
“No way, let go!” She hissed, struggled.
“Guess we’ll be here a while.” Mei snickered.
After a moment, Ino whined. “Fine, I’ll get you some stupid Daifuku.”
“An entire plate?” Mei tugged a little, making the blonde yelp.
“Yes, yes! A whole plate! Now get off!” She yelled.
Mei grinned and released her friend’s arms, happily. She climbed off her and helped her stand up before making her way over to where her water and an unimpressed Sakura were at. Mei smiled cheekily at the medic nin, but when her arms didn’t uncross she frowned.
“Oh come on, I think I did pretty good.” Mei pouted.
Shikamaru glanced at her. “I don’t think you’re supposed to bargain your opponent’s life for sweets.”
“Well, why not? They get to live and I get delights.” She shrugged, drinking water.
“Would you spare a murderer for sweets?” Neji asked, his eyes closed while he leaned against a tree.
Smirking, Mei answered. “If they bought me a plate of Daifuku for each victim, I’d consider it.”
He opened his eyes to meet hers and raised a brow, it had been the first time she responded to him verbally since they saw each other. She avoided it for the one reason that she’d cave, say screw it to not being clingy. But for once she was thankful for the punch Ino sent to her side, she groaned and tore her eyes away from his to glare at the blonde.
“Sakura! You’re just gonna let her abuse me still?” Mei gasped as the girl started to walk away.
“You just had your knee on her neck.” Sakura gave her a look.
“So?” Mei dragged.
“So? You deserve it.” Sakura stuck her tongue out.
“She hit a tree. With me!” Mei gasped.
“She didn’t bribe the tree.” Hinata giggled from behind.
“Whose side are you on here?” Mei narrowed her eyes. “Hint, you’re supposed to say mine.”
“I feel like if I were on your side, I’d be a dirty fighter.” Hinata reasoned. Mei snorted, and shrugged knowing she was right.
Somewhere between the training area and the restaurant, Ino managed to coax a piggy back ride out of Hinata, while Mei ended in the back walking next to Neji. How? She hadn’t the closest idea, since she was tugging Sakura’s cheek, childishly, not moments before.
The group died down to silence, which left Mei alone to her thoughts. Which, weren’t bad, whatsoever, really she was contemplating getting a cat. She saw one in an alley and played with it a bit before training. She suddenly wondered if Neji liked cats.
At the thought, Mei sighed softly, thankfully not catching the attention of her friends. Well, all but one. He brushed his hand along hers, making her look down at the slight connection before up to his eyes.
“Hmm?” She questioned.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
“Nothing, just contemplating.” She answered honestly.
“Contemplating?” He pressed, as they slipped further behind their friends.
Holding your hand or not. Mei hesitated, but admitted. “A cat.”
This seemed to take him by surprise. “A cat?”
“Yep, I think I want one, but I’m trying to think if I really want one.” She felt his hand brush hers again, a bit harder.
“Well, what makes you want one?” He glanced down at her.
“I saw one this morning, he was sweet.” She told him.
He nodded. “What else, makes you want one?”
“Um, let’s see.” She thought for a moment. “I had one when I was a kid, Tomao. She was mean and grumpy. Bit you when you tried to pet her, knocked down three expensive vases, for no reason.”
“And you want another cat?” He raised a brow.
“But.” She continued, shushing him. “She was always there when I was alone, so I wasn’t actually alone. If I cried, she was there sitting on my lap, licking the tears away and then biting me as if telling me ‘Suck it up!’ She had always slept near my bed. Tomao was a very mean, sweet cat. So yes, I want another.”
“Okay, what would make you not want one.” He asked.
Mei’s face instantly deadpanned. “It may try to kill me if I don’t feed it before bed. Like could you imagine, ‘The Great Ninja Mei, death by cat. She should have fed the tiny demon.”
Neji let out a laugh. “If you manage to die to a cat, I don’t think ‘great’ should be on your tombstone.”
Mei elbowed him, laughing too. “Cat’s are natural ninjas! Could slit my throat before I even knew I forgot to feed them!”
“I think that would be your answer then. Don’t get a cat, you may die.” Neji concluded, but noticed Mei had stopped. “Mei? What are you-?”
There she was, still, staring into the trees. Neji looked up to see what had her attention and was amused to find that she was angrily eyeing down a squirrel. He looked to find their friends still walking off in the distance, and was about mention such to Mei, but a small yelp startled him.
Mei was now behind him, watching the squirrel that now stood at the edge of the trail. He looked back at her, trying not to laugh. “Maybe it’s here to finish the job.”
Suddenly, Mei was caught up with the group.
“I hate you. So much.” Mei grumbled.
“What happened to you?” She snapped. “Any other day, you’d be cracking dumb, shitty timed jokes!”
“Now, what are you doing?” She clicked her tongue. “Hiding in a bathroom. What the actual fuck, Mei!”
Mei glared hard at her own reflection. A reflection she’d been staring at for almost an hour. She groaned and dropped her forehead against the reflecting glass. She wanted to cry.
Neji decided to cash in the bowl of ramen she owed him, from a month ago, and her mind instantly deemed it as a date. And no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t shake the nerves on that thought. So, stupidly she went to Kiba for help.
He only laughed at her for being so tight wound about it. He claimed he just asked her on a date, it wasn’t too big of a deal…
“Unless, it’s not a date and he’s gonna tell you he hates cats.”
That sentence made her thump her head again. Leave it to her ex to make her more nervous about the thing she went to him for confidence. He didn’t mean any harm, really, she knew that, but… It really could be just a lunch together, without being together. She hit the mirror again.
“If you thump your head anymore, I’d think you’re trying to get into the mirror.” A woman piped up.
Mei groaned and willed herself not to do it again. “Honestly doesn’t sound like a terrible idea.”
“Oh, don’t say that. You’re just nervous.” The woman laughed, moving to the sink.
“At this point, I don’t know. I’ve been in here for forty eight minutes, because I’m nervous to go meet the guy that invited me out. ” Mei brushed her hair out of her face.
“He’s been waiting for almost an hour?” She gasped.
“No! No! Only about ten… I’ve been panicking for almost an hour.” Mei corrected.
“You said it yourself, you’re not like this normally, right? Just go out there and be yourself.” The woman encouraged, chuckling. “He asked you on a date for a reason.”
“But that’s the thing! I don’t know if it’s a date! I have to buy him ramen.” She exclaimed. “I just don’t know what we are, and it’s completely screwing up my thought process. Do I go out there and talk like we’re just friends or do I go out there and talk to him like his girlfriend?”
“Are you his girlfriend?” The woman asked.
“I… I don’t know… My best friend says we are, because we kissed twice. But that’s all. He hasn’t asked me to be, and he hasn’t really done anything to make it clear.” She groaned.
“Well,” The woman fixed Mei’s hair, and then her shirt. “Maybe he’ll change that now, so go out there and figure it out, honey.”
The woman gave her a wink before retreating from the bathroom. Mei’s nerves seemed to go with her and finally she felt like she could breathe. With one more glance at herself in the mirror, she nodded and walked out of the bathroom.
She walked up to the table, where Neji was sitting, drinks already placed. She slipped into the seat in front of him, making him open his eyes. “You came from the bathroom?”
“Ah, Ino and Sakura. They had tried to follow so they could spy on the date, almost couldn’t get away.” Mei rolled her eyes.
Neji smirked slightly. “Should’ve told them you were going to hang out with a friend.”
“Hm?” Mei hummed.
“They wouldn’t have wanted to follow you since it’s not a date.” He stated.
“Oh…” That settles that.
After that, Mei could make it any longer than fifteen minutes, before she had to leave. With a gentle excuse that she couldn’t remember very well, she was on her way home, quickly dismissing his offer to walk her. She held back the tears that burned her eyes, until she was just getting home. And to make it better, she saw Kiba walking with Akamaru.
“Oi, Mei aren’t you supposed to be on your maybe da...te…?” Kiba started to tease her but it died off as soon as he noticed the shine in her eyes. “I’ll kill him.”
Mei just shook head and laid her head on his chest.
Four hours and three empty liquor bottles later, Mei, Kiba, Ino, Hinata and Sakura laughed at the strange sounds that came out of Ino’s mouth as she laughed. After an hour of crying, Mei agreed to invite the ladies over as well. Because as much as Kiba wanted to support her, he had never seen her so hurt over something, he needed help to handle it.
“If you somehow manage to get that full spoon in your mouth I swear to god.” Mei snorted as Sakura struggled to shovel a spoon full of ice cream in her mouth.
“If only her mouth was as big as her head, she’d be done by now.” Ino teased.
Kiba threw a piece of some kind of dried meat at Ino, making Ino dramatically fall into Hinata’s lap. “I’ve been hit.”
“If it takes a piece of meat to take you down, I’m disappointed.” Kiba laughed.
Ino went to flip him off, but Akamaru got in the way, taking both Ino and Hinata to the ground. The sight sent the whole group into a laughing fit, even Sakura who was risking death with the ice cream and spoon finally in her mouth. As the group quieted, Mei slowly remembered why they were so drunk and tears filled her eyes again.
“Hey, hey! No tears!” Kiba hurried to wipe them away.
“The only tears allowed to fall are because your cheeks hurt from smiling, damn it.” Ino declared, pushing Akamaru off her chest.
“But my heart hurts.” Mei mumbled. “Can’t I cry about that pain?”
“Oh eoush ee uhshent eeerf or ears!” Sakura garbled around her ice cream.
“Sakura… please we can’t understand you…” Hinata said, definitely not as drunk as everyone else.
Disgustingly, Sakura spit the ice cream out into the tub she emptied before trying again. “No, because he doesn’t deserve your tears.”
“That was gross…” Ino whispered.
“But, it still hurts, I thought after everything that happened, things would be different. Of course I didn’t think we’d instantly be like in-love-ready-for-kids kinda shit. Just… maybe… Hey-I-like-you-let’s-date kinda shit…” Mei sniffled, the sake making her emotions worse.
“Well, he’s an idiot.” Sakura crossed her arms, watching Mei move to cuddle the large fluff that was Akamura.
Mei scoffed. “Actually, he’s a genius.”
“A ninja genius, not a life genius, obviously.” Kiba corrected, . “Otherwise, he would’ve snatched your heart up when he had the chance.”
“I have to agree with Kiba. My cousin really didn’t think any of this through.” Hinata sighed.
“Yeah, I don’t know what is going through his head but, it’d stupid.” Sakura added.
Ino butted in too. “It was dirty of him to string you along.”
Their words of drunken wisdom and kindness fell over deaf ears as a soft snore erupted through the room. Looking over to where Mei was, they found that she was fast asleep in Akamaru’s fur. And although she was drifting off to dreamland, tears still slipped down her face, letting them know just how bad she was hurt.
The next morning, Kiba grunted when a finger thumped his forehead. It thumped him twice more before he jerked up, almost punching his attacker until he realized it was just Hinata. He rubbed his eye, groggily as she pulled him up off the floor.
“Hina-.” He grumbled.
“Shh!” She pointed at the girl’s that were still asleep. “We’re gonna go talk to my cousin.”
They both looked over at the girl drooling and gripping, Akamaru’s fluff. He was awake and watching the two, but made no effort to get up and move. Kiba reached down to pet him and slip a blanket over Mei’s shoulders.
“Let’s go.”
It being nearly eleven in the afternoon, it wasn’t hard to find Neji. His usual training spot, of course standing still, eyes closed. Probably working on his detection, or concentration. Not that either cared at the moment.
“Hinata, Kib-!” He barely opened his eyes to greet them when Kiba grabbed him by the collar and slammed him into the tree behind him. Neji raised a brow, not seeming bothered at all. “Can I hel-?”
“Shut it, I’m hungover and pissed. Decent civility, courtesy of Hinata, is the only thing stopping me from breaking your nose.” Kiba snarled.
Neji looked over to Hinata, who looked less aggressive but just as hateful. “Can I at least know why?”
“Because you’re being stupid.” Hinata said, watching Neji’s eyes narrow in offense. “Either stop leading her on or do something real about it.”
“Leading on? You mean Mei? I’m not leading her on.” Neji tried, only for Kiba to press him harder into the tree.
“Bullshit! You show her slight affection, knowing she’ll bite. But, you leave her hanging.” He glared.
“I’m genuinely not sure what you’re talking about.” Neji stated, same intensity in his own eyes.
“You’re giving her just enough to believe she has a chance with you but you’re not giving her that chance, Neji! You act like you want a relationship with her but then you don’t ask to be in a relationship with her!” Hinata yelled.
Neji furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. “I’m not? I’m pretty positive I'm dating her."
"Well, she's not so sure." Kiba revealed.
"I wasn't aware that I had to write my feelings out on a sign, after telling her as well. She not stupid."
"No, but she is confused, insecure and hurt." Hinata said. "She thinks that you guys are still just friends, just close friends now. You don't hold her hand, you haven't asked her or clarified you want her to be your girlfriend. You don't even take her out!"
"I went on a date with her yesterday, so that last one’s bullshit." Neji shoved Kiba's hands off of him and straightened himself. "She left because she didn't feel good."
"She didn't feel good because someone said; 'They wouldn’t have wanted to follow you since it’s not a date'. She doesn't think it was a date, she thinks you just wanted the ramen she 'owed' you!" Kiba yelled.
"She doesn't believe you want to be with her, and honestly with how you act, I don't believe you do either." Hinata sighed.
Three loud knocks echoed through Mei's apartment making her groan. Slowly she pulled herself off her couch and again the knocks echoed again. Her groan grew louder, as if her visitor would be able to hear it when they knocked again.
"Shit, I'm coming! If you don't stop knocking, I will stab you in the fucking-" She yanked the door open to find Neji. "... Throat."
"Would you spare me if I had a surprise for you?" He tried to joke.
"As hungover as I am… probably not." She rolled her eyes. "But anyway, what are you doing here?"
Akamaru wormed his head between her legs and growled. Mei popped his head, softly telling him to hush and he whined in apology. "Sorry, he's annoyed he's not getting me to himself right now."
"Kiba here?" He assumed.
"No, Sakura is though." Mei she corrected. "Why, you want me alone?"
"No, that's fine." He shoved his hands in his pockets. But then noticed her shoulders drop and hurried to restate. "Wait, that sounded wrong. Yes, I would love to be alone with you, but you don't have to send her away. I don't care if she knows what I'm here for."
"And what is it you're here for, Neji?" She sighed, jerking away from Akamaru’s tongue on her leg.
"I guess I do have to write it out for you." Neji mumbled.
"Look, I am too tired and hungry to deal with this right now." She sighed, starting to close the door.
"Then let's go on a date." He stopped her. He watched her eyes narrow at him and he continued. "It seems that my feelings haven't been very clear recently, and I'm sorry about that."
"I have to go make sure Sakura didn't choke on her ice cream again." She again tried to close the door.
"I am trying to ask you to be my girlfriend, Mei. I thought I didn't have to ask that question, but I wasn't really making it obvious that I meant for you to be my girlfriend a month ago." Neji admitted.
"Neji, you didn't say anything…" She huffed, hurt. “I didn’t know what to do or even think! I didn’t know if holding your hand would be pushing limits, or kissing you, or... Or… If you liked cats for fuck’s sake!”
"I am now. I’m sorry it took so long, Mei…” He reached up to wipe the tear from her cheek. “Please Mei.”
“Mei, I swear to gods, if you don’t say yes I will beat you with this spoon!” Sakura yelled from the kitchen and Akamaru barked in agreement.
She sniffled and let out a laugh. “Do you even like cats?”
He smiled and shook his head. “I love cats.”

Clanswap AU - Nejiten
“Tenten,” her uncle intoned. The girl emerged from the shadows, silent and smooth-moving.
“Yes, milord?” she asked, bowing - her voice at exactly the right pitch and tone and volume, her spine inclined at the perfect angle, her eyes respectfully downcast.
“Take this to the captain of the guard,” Hiashi ordered, handing her a scroll.
“At once, milord,” she replied, again with the perfect tone of respect in her voice, and disappeared in a shunshin as fast and silent as any ANBU’s.
Hiashi watched her disappear, his eyes revealing nothing. Then he turned back to his paperwork, thinking of what Hizashi had told him, once, when they’d both been young and Hiashi had not been the enemy, the Main House - when he had only been Hizashi’s beloved twin brother, and it had been them both against the world.
‘When there is nothing left,’ Hizashi had told him, ‘Perfect service can be the most potent revenge. He will never dare to trust me. And he will never dare not to dare.’
His niece, as in most things, followed her father - a most subtle rebel. It was her birthright, after all - even her name, drawn from her foreign mother’s homeland, was in its own way a rebellion against the Hyuuga traditions.

“Shut up, Lee!” Neji hissed, elbowing his best friend. “It’s Tenten’s turn to throw!”
Neji watched, his hazel eyes wide, as Tenten took her place at the target range, holding his breath as she flung her kunai.
“Perfect score,” announced the teacher, eyeing the row of bulls-eyes she had just achieved. An admiring murmur rose from her classmates as Tenten inclined her head politely to the chuunin, quietly retaking her place in the crowd.
“She’s so awesome,” Neji sighed.
“She is very accomplished,” Lee agreed, squinting at the bulls-eyes. “I feel, however, as if she lacks a certain...passion? Vitality?” He crossed his arms. “She is very hard to approach.”
In reply, Neji kicked him in the shin. “Just because she’s so much cooler than anyone in the Academy!”
“Ow!” whined Lee. The two boys began to tussle.
“Rock Lee! Neji!” snapped their chuunin instructor, reaching in to grab the boys by their collars. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Their classmates giggled at them as they were shaken like puppies - all except Tenten, who merely watched with the blank expression that was her usual appearance. Neji wilted in front of it.

“Hinata-sama,” Tenten said, falling into step behind her younger cousin as class let out. Hinata ventured a shy smile.
“Ten-nee,” she said, hopefully.
And, as always, the smile faded away as Tenten continued gazing at her with that same polite, utterly bland expression. She remained where she was, a step behind Hinata as the other girl turned to head for home, picking the best place for a shinobi to guard her master’s back.
Perhaps one day they would walk home side-by-side, Hinata thought.

They were in their final year of the Academy, Tenten pretty much a lock for Rookie of the Year (the first time in years a kunoichi would win the title) when Uchiha Sasuke challenged her to a duel.
“Hey, Hyuuga,” he called, sauntering up to her with cocksure aplomb. Behind him, his classmates gasped at his boldness in breaking the unspoken recess-time rules - he was talking to an upperclassman! Without even being spoken to first!
Then Tenten turned her silver eyes on him, her face impeccably composed, and Sasuke stopped short. He swallowed hard, staring at the other doujutsu-user, and long-ago lessons in manners from his mother rose to the front of his mind.
“Senpai,” he said, in a more courteous tone of voice, and with a small bow, “Would you agree to duel with me? Please?”
There was another, louder gasp from his classmates - as much for the way Sasuke was speaking, that he had actually inclined his head, as for the fact that he had just challenged the older student. Hinata had begun to wring her hands.
Tenten regarded him for a long, silent moment, before bowing back with the exact same inclination of her head. The clanborn among their classmates noticed that, and thought about how their various tutors in clan etiquette would have pointed to the two as examples of perfect execution. “I would be happy to,” she said. “After class?”
“If that is convenient to you,” Sasuke replied politely.
“The Academy practice-yards?” Tenten suggested.
“That sounds good,” Sasuke agreed.
“See you there, then,” Tenten said, returning to the book she had been reading. Sasuke stared at her for a moment before turning back to his class’s side of the playground.
There, he was swarmed by gaping and admiring classmates, Kiba and Naruto howling that for a bastard he was a brave son of a bitch. Hinata stood apart, her gaze darting between Sasuke and her cousin.
Tenten was similarly swarmed, although she did not even deign to look up from her book. From high up in a tree, safely hidden, Neji glowered jealously at the younger boy, while Rock Lee bounced beside him in excitement.

For the rest of the school-day the two classes were in a lather of excitement, although both Sasuke and Tenten seemed calm, almost ostentatiously so. The students stampeded out as the end-of-class bell rang, both years streaming towards the practice-yards in a river of chattering humanity. The Last Uchiha versus the Hyuuga prodigy! Neji, still grumpy, pushed his way to the front of the crowd, finding himself standing next to a very loud-mouthed pair of younger students who immediately struck up a conversation with Lee, who had tagged along with his friend.
“Uchiha’s a bastard, but he’s our bastard!” bragged the darker-haired one, whose cheeks proclaimed him an Inuzuka.
“Sasuke’s gonna win,” agreed the blond next to him. “I mean, he beats me pretty often.”
“And who the hell are you?” snarled Neji, turning on the younger boy.
“Uzumaki Naruto,” proclaimed the blond, throwing his chest out. “Future Hokage!”
Neji sneered and was about to snap something cutting when Lee elbowed him hard.
“Well, that may be so, but Tenten’s pretty good too,” Lee said appeasingly, trying to keep his friend from saying something he would regret. Neji was a nice kid, really - he just lost his head when it came to Tenten. “Plus, we have a year more training than you. More, maybe, because Tenten’s a Hyuuga and they start training young.”
“If that’s the case why’s Hinata so easy to beat?” Naruto wondered out loud.
Unseen, far back in the crowd, but able to watch with her Byakugan on, Hinata wilted.
Even more unseen, Tenten - in the middle of warm-up stretches - smirked to herself.

The fight was exciting, a highlight of their careers as students. They would speak of the fight for the rest of their time in school, and for many of the ones who did not make it to genin it would be the greatest fight they would see with their own eyes.
They started slow, with textbook-perfect Academy taijutsu and bukijutsu. Slowly they ramped up the pace, until they were darting at each other too fast for some of their classmates to see. Their respective fanclubs kept up a constant cheer, but the crowd was silenced when Sasuke, flung away by a powerful palm-strike, sent an actual fireball blazing at Tenten.
Neji made a strangled noise in his throat, making an abortive movement forward when he saw the fireball. But Tenten was already moving, rolling out of the way. When she stood up, they saw that her Byakugan had gone active, veins pulsing with chakra.
From there on the intensity kicked up several notches, Tenten’s Jyuuken strikes looking deceptively gentle as they brushed against Sasuke but his pained responses showing their effectiveness.
In the end, she won. But she bowed to Sasuke and actually smiled at him, saying, “That was a very good fight, Uchiha. Next week?”
Sasuke blinked, and then accepted with a nod. He swaggered back, his classmates regarding him with awe. He’d been beaten, yes - but look at how awesome a kunoichi it had taken to do it! And he could spit fire!
Hinata went home, Tenten one step behind her as usual but with a smoky smell of fire chakra attending her, thinking about how skillfully Tenten had executed the Jyuuken attacks.
Sasuke went home, bizarrely comforted by having been beaten. Hyuugas, after all, were nearly as good as Uchihas, his father had once implied - even if they were all stuffy snobs. And this girl was supposed to be one of their best. Eventually he, Sasuke, would become better than her, of course, he was still growing and still learning, but that meant there was still something to learn in the Academy - still people he could hone his edge on, in the Village.
Neji went home, half-excited by the fight, half-jealous that it had taken a younger brat to make Tenten smile, to make her use her Byakugan.

Later, that night, Tenten smirked to herself. The fight had been fun, a chance to let loose. But she hadn’t really - she could have beaten the boy more quickly, but she had deliberately drawn it out, kept her Jyuuken strikes just a shade less damaging so the Uchiha could power through - so that she had more time to perform. She had seen, with her Byakugan, several of her clan watching the fight from afar. And she had seen their expressions when she had faultlessly executed her Jyuuken attacks - foregoing speed and power for absolute precision, absolute fidelity to the Jyuuken canon.
She knew how well she appeared, in comparison to Hinata’s sloppy Jyuuken. To an outsider’s eyes Hinata’s carefully trained form would appear just fine, but to Hyuuga eyes every deviation appeared bright and sharp.
She didn’t need to show how much she despised her cousin; all she needed to do was let others know how much Hinata deserved that disdain.
Also, it had been nice to see Neji’s jaw drop.

A/N: I stayed up till four am doing all this research. I need to stop drinking coffee so late at night.

Pairing(s)/Characters: SasoObi, ShiItaIzu, implied future SasuSaku, Ino, Kiba, and Naruto Rating: T Disclaimer Day’s Notes: written for the fabulous, oh-so-amazing, and extremely wonderful @thatshipcat to celebrate their birthday-week! This fic is set in the same modern au setting as Konoha TV Cryptid and can be seen as a sort of prequel. Here is a Halloween fic that I hope you all find funny and sweet.

Halloweenanigans
Sighing to himself, Sasori wiped off the makeup that had taken him a great deal of effort to apply. The painstakingly applied makeup had given him the appearance of one of the glassy eyed ventriloquist dummies from an old horror movie.
When he had first decided on his costume for Halloween he had expected to be dragged to parties by his boyfriend━parties he knew he would get bored of, but he could easily persuade Obito to duck out early.
What he hadn’t expected was to be stuck on babysitting duty.
Sasori was aware that his makeup was unnerving and would freak children out. If he had known that he would be around children at any point on Halloween he would have reconsidered his costume for the night.
If he had known.
Opening the door to the apartment, Sasori had expected to see his boyfriend not a gaggle of children. What soon followed was a high pitched shriek and then a swift kick to the shin from a blonde eight year old that came to the defense of her friend with peculiar hair coloring.
The same eight year old was sitting on one of his bar stools and swinging her little legs as she waited patiently for him and his supplies.
“So you just want whiskers?” Sasori asked her, setting up his multi-tiered makeup box.
“Please,” she pleaded bashfully, averting her gaze. She had apologized earlier for the attack and wouldn’t look him in the eye out of shame.
“Are you sure, Ino? He can make you a real snout.” Obito was currently reattaching one of the multiple tails to another blond brat’s costume. “He’s really good at it.”
“How did you get stuck on babysitting duty, again?”
“Stuck? I volunteered!”
“Of course you did,” Sasori muttered looking around his neat living room. At the moment Obito’s cousin and the tiny girl with rose gold hair were sitting calmly on his couch but the brown haired kid dressed like a dog was fidgeting as he looked around the room.
He better not break anything...
Looking down at Ino’s cat ears, Sasori took out a pot of gel eye liner and instructed the girl to close her eyes and tilt her chin up. There was a glimmer in her eyes when she saw the makeup kit and she sat still as a statue and did as asked.
“Can I get glitter too?” Ino asked━shame tossed completely out the window━as soon as Sasori was done lining her eyes to make them more cat like. The pale blue of her irises really worked with the cat costume.
Dusting the area around her eyes with more white face paint to give the texture of fur, he considered the placement of glitter on her faux cat markings. “Sure.”
Ino had barely slid off the barstool when the puppy kid had braced his hands on the seat of it and in one fluid motion, jumped up and seated himself.
“Can you make it look like I have a giant scar going across my face?”
“That’s not part of the theme, Kiba!” Ino stomped her foot, hands on her hips.
“Naruto has like nine tails on him and no one has said anything about that!”
The two of them began to bicker, but Sasori was sure he heard Obito’s cousin mutter “I definitely did.”
Getting through the makeup for all of the kids, it wasn’t hard to notice the animal theme the kids went for. Or in the smallest child’s case, a yokai. Obito had even joined them and had the adult version of his cousin’s wolf costume.
Using his skills as a makeup artist was at least more amusing than watching a bunch of grad students give themselves alcohol poisoning.
“A heads up would have been nice.”
“Aww,” Obito threw an arm around Sasori’s shoulders, “you can always go as Little Red. Ow!”
Leaving him with the kids in the living room, Sasori headed back to his bedroom. He was sure that he had a kid friendly costume in his closet.

Sasori narrowed his eyes at his boyfriend. Obito would sneak peeks at him as they walked, the corners of his mouth twitching upwards.
“Not a word,” Sasori hissed, the cat ears on his head twitching in sync with his right eye.
Unfortunately for him, he didn’t have anything that would have been quick to put together and the fox boy and puppy kid were already complaining about how the sun had set. He changed into some easy to move in street clothes and grabbed his brainwave cat ears.
Trick or treating wasn’t that bad, mostly a lot of walking. Whether it was the promise of candy or refusal to show any exhaustion, the primary school kids dragged him and Obito across several blocks.
“Isn’t this the cousin that hates candy?” Sasori asked, watching the little wolf throw something from his bag at the fox kid’s face.
“Sasuke? Yeah. He’ll probably end up giving most of that candy to Sakura.” Obito unwrapped a lollipop and stuck it in his mouth. “Usually he gives his candy to Itachi because no one gives it out to teenagers anymore but he’s pissed off at him right now.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, I volunteered to take him, Kiba, and Naruto trick or treating because Itachi decided he wanted to go out with his friends this year.”
“And the bunny and cat?”
“Sakura goes where Sasuke goes and Ino goes where Sakura goes.”
And as if on cue, there was Sasuke offering a marshmallow treat to the bunny girl, right before Ino knocked him out of her way by bumping him with her hip and offering Sakura a chocolate bar from her own bag. Ino hooked her arm with Sakura’s and they skipped to the next house.
“She’s not going to make his life easy,” Obito snickered. The smile slid off of his face when the man at the next house pulled the bowl of candy away from Sasuke. “What the hell?”
“The kid is pretty tall for his age. He probably thinks that he’s a teen—and there he goes.”
Ino and Sakura came running back to him as they watched Obito give the older man a piece of his mind.
“Should we stop him?” Sakura asked him, tugging on the sleeve of his jacket.
“Obito’s fine.”
“Oh, not him.” Ino pointed in a different direction, a smile spreading across her face.
Sasori cocked his head to the side and observed the scene in front of them. Sasuke was now pinching the bridge of his nose in embarrassment. Obito was too busy arguing with the owner of the house to notice that Naruto had grabbed the giant jack o’ lantern from the front yard until it was too late.
He lifted it over his head and with more strength than Sasori would expect from a ten year old, Naruto threw it, smashing it against the garage door. Kiba let out a battle cry and copied his action with another pumpkin.
“Hey!” The house owner shouted. “I’m calling the cops, you brats.”
“Ha! You think that scares me?” Kiba mocked him as Obito scooped him up over his shoulder. “My mom is a cop.”
Sasori wrapped his arms around Ino and Sakura’s waists and lifted them up, carrying them under his arms as he followed Obito across the street and around the corner. The girls shrieked and giggled the whole way.
“Can I get a slushie?” Ino clasped her hands behind her back and batted her eyelashes up at Sasori. She nudged Sakura with her elbow and the girl mirrored her actions.
“You have enough sugar. You can get water.”
They found a convenience store to use the restroom and to find some supplies to fix Naruto’s costume again. He kept smacking everyone with his tails and Sasuke grew fed up with it and ripped the tails off.
“We’ll share the slushie,” Ino insisted.
Sasori crossed his arms in front of his chest, not falling for the cutesy act. “If I’m paying, you get water. If you want a slushie, you buy it.”
“Ugh, fine.” Ino pulled out a smartphone from her hoodie pocket and pulled out a credit card from the card pocket attached to the case.
What the hell? Sasori shook his head. He didn’t want to meet the parent that gave a ten year old an iPhone, let alone a credit card. He watched as Ino dragged Sakura behind an aisle and then immediately turned back, blue eyes wide.
“What happened?” Sasori demanded.
“N-nothing.” Both girls cheeks were flushed red.
I swear to God if it’s a flasher…
Sasori turned the corner around the aisle and stopped dead in his tracks. “Oh, you’ve gotta be kidding me. Oi!”
Obito’s other younger cousin blinked at him, pulling away from a brown haired girl and a curly haired boy that had his arms wrapped around his waist from behind.
“Really? At a 7-Eleven?” Sasori scrunched his face up in disgust. “Love yourself. Have some class.”
“Wait,” Itachi’s eyes widened in recognition, “if you’re here—“
“This is the prior engagement you had?” Obito snickered, his head poking out from over the shelves of chips. “If you wanted to go on a date, you could have just said so.”
Sasori snorted and crossed his arms in front of his chest. “I wouldn’t call this a date. Making out in front of the slushie machine, really? So classy.”
“Brings back memories huh, Sasori?” Sasori rubbed his brow with his index finger and thumb. “He gets hangry when he’s high. You guys don’t have the munchies do you?”
The three teenagers looked from Obito and then back down to Sasori━seriously, what was with the Uchiha family and being so tall?━eyes wide and stammering. Itachi blinked owlishly from behind his glasses but then looked around.
“You’re not high right now, are you Obito? You have my brother with you! You do have him with you, right?”
Obito blew a raspberry and then ducked down. There was a growling sound and a protest and then Sasuke was lifted up in the air above the shelves. “See? All in one piece.”
“Can you put me down now?”
“Aww, don’t you want to see your brother?” Obito asked, setting him back down.
“No, he’s a traitor,” Sasuke’s voice carried down the aisle as he stomped away.
Itachi at least had the decency to hang his head in defeat. Sasori rolled his eyes and went looking for his charges for the night. Ino was loud but she and Sakura were a lot easier to deal with than Kiba and Naruto. Speaking of, the two of them had been quiet for a while now…
There was a loud popping sound and then a pair of cackles. There was the sound of liquid splashing everywhere and one of the shop employees started shouting.
No. Nope, not dealing with that. Sasori turned in the opposite direction of the noise and grabbed Sakura and Ino’s hands. Sasuke jogged alongside them, following them right out of the store.
“Hey!” Ino whined. “I didn’t get my slushie!”
“That was Naruto wasn’t it?” Sakura asked, grabbing onto Sasuke’s hand to make sure he went around the corner with them as Sasori dragged them as far from the 7-Eleven as possible.
“The idiot said there wasn’t enough tricks happening tonight.”
“I’m choking him with his own tails later,” Sakura growled.
Well, alright then. Sasori did a double take, shocked that the threat had come from the child that had been the most quiet the whole night. The baby of the group is a lot darker than previously believed to be.
“We left Obito behind,” Sasuke informed him.
“Every man for himself.” Sasori chose not to remind him that he had also left behind his friends and his older brother.
He probably didn’t really care about his older brother and his “cousins” at the moment. Sasori was going to have to ask Obito how they were all related again. He knew that he and Sasuke were definitely related because Obito was a little more doting than was healthy and even had a collection of baby photos.
They were probably going to have to have a discussion about that as well if the relationship was going to go any further than the four months they already dated.
The ten year old smirked up at him, “you know what, you’re okay. I approve.”
“I wasn’t looking for your approval.” Sasuke simply shrugged.
“You got it anyway.”

Sasori made himself busy folding candy wrappers into different shapes for Sakura’s entertainment. She was clearly the only kid of the group worth wasting time on—Obito’s favoritism towards his baby cousin ignored of course.
He had only been in her presence for a few hours but it was obvious the little beauty queen had Obito’s cousin and Naruto wrapped around her little finger. It was something he had to respect just a bit.
“Okay, kiddos,” Obito addressed them all cheerily. “Where to next?”
“Don’t they have a curfew?”
“Nope!” Ino popped a bubble. Somehow all of the candy with gum ended up in her possession. “We’re all sleeping over at Sasuke’s.”
“What!?” Naruto shrieked. “Since when is Ino staying over?”
“Since Sakura asked.” Ino tossed her ponytail over her shoulder haughtily, fists balled at her hips.
“You got a problem, Naruto?” Sakura shook her little fist in his direction and the boy cowered, throwing his hands over his head.
“No, not at all.”
“God, you’re whipped,” Kiba snickered. His words though were directed to Sasuke who was sitting on the curb a little away from the rest of them.
“Shut up, Kiba.” Ino rolled her eyes. “There’s no such thing as being whipped.”
Kiba blew a raspberry at her. “It’s the whole reason we have an animal theme this year. ‘Cause someone gets cold easily and someone else went along with it.”
Oh. Sasori observed the way Sasuke’s ears turned a shade of red. His eyes shifted to Sakura who definitely was wearing the warmest costume, being the fluffy bunny and all.
“So how long are we going to be stuck with the kids?” Sasori asked Obito over the squawking of the children. As...cute...as they were, time with them was dragging on and he had plans for the way he wanted the night to end. “Kind of wanted to do some...things later.”
“Oh, really?” Obito gave him a cheeky grin. Wrapping an arm around his shoulders, he pulled Sasori closer, leaning in to—
“There are children present.” Sasori palmed Obito’s face and pushed him away.
“You’re just being a tease,” Obito whined. “Not like they would even notice.”
It was true. The kids weren’t even paying attention to them. The five of them were in their own little world, crowding Ino’s smartphone. Naruto lunged for the phone, exclaiming about something, but was pushed back by the other kids.
Sasori still couldn’t believe the stuff the brat had done in only a few hours. Bless his mother. Sasori could only imagine how difficult it was to deal with him 365 days of the year.
“This night has turned me off of kids.”
Obito scoffed and rolled his eyes. “You don’t mean that.”
“No, I’m serious. These kids are walking advertisements for birth control.”
Obito exhaled a laugh through his nose. “Love the kid, but I’m pretty sure Sasuke wasn’t planned.”
“Well, fortunately we won’t have that problem in the future. Can’t accidentally adopt a kid.”
Obito cradled his chin with his hand, his elbow propped on his knee. “Oh, we won’t will we?”
“Wipe that smirk off of your face.” Sasori pursed his lips and narrowed his eyes. He would have to deal with that cocky grin later. “I’ve tolerated you for four months already, who’s to say I won’t tolerate you for longer.”
“Tolerating me is what you’ve been doing, huh?” Obito snickered. “I feel so loved.”
“Oh, shut up.” This time Sasori only rolled his eyes as Obito wrapped an arm around his shoulder and pulled him closer.
At times it could be overwhelming, the intensity that Obito loved. It was a completely new experience and although it was nerve wracking the first few weeks of their courtship, the two had settled into an easy rhythm. It took Obito a week to leave his bed after their first night; Sasori should have taken that as a sign of how things would turn out for them.
“If you’re done flirting,” Ino approached them, features cooled into a business like appearance, “we want to go to the haunted house.”
“What? You haven’t committed enough minor criminal acts for one night?” Sasori eyed the shrimpy blond kid. “Vandalism and theft not enough, we have to add breaking and entering?”
“Hey! I bought those mints and that cola.” Naruto’s face scrunched up into an ugly pout before it finally dawned on him what Sasori had said. “There’s a real haunted house!?”
“Okay, down boy.” Ino grabbed Naruto by the scruff of his neck and kept him from tackling the adults in his excitement. “We’re not going to some abandoned house, we’re going much more commercial here. There’s a haunted house set up nearby that we technically can’t go to unless we have adults with us.”
“That doesn’t sound reassuring.”
“Sounds fun!” Obito stood up, pulling Sasori up with him. “Where is it?”
“Can I talk to you for a sec?” Sasori tugged on Obito’s hand until they were a far enough distance from the kids that they could speak in private while still keeping an eye on them. “Obito it’s late. We should be taking them back to your aunt’s house and then we should be going back to my apartment.”
“Come on,” Obito pleaded, “it will be fun! And it will be the last thing we do tonight with the kids. Besides, I’m sure that they’ll probably chicken out before we even go inside.”
“Last thing?”
“Yep!”
“And then we go home?”
“And we can do whatever you want.” Obito winked. “Come on. It will be quick and then we’ll be home before you know it.”

Obito was avoiding looking at him. Whenever they caught each other’s eyes he would grin sheepishly and rub the back of his neck and then go back to looking at the bars of the holding cell.
“Home before we know it, huh?” Sasori hissed from his seat on the bench. The cell was extremely full, but one look from him and the previous occupant had vacated the seat.
Obito wasn’t as lucky and was forced to stand in a corner. He used his position to keep an eye on the kids whom were sitting on a bench at the opposite side of the room.
“Let’s be fair. I’m not the reason we had the cops called on us.”
“But I’m not the reason we were in that stupid haunted house in the first place!” Sasori ran his hands down his face and sighed. He would gladly take idiot grad students and their keg stands right now.
The haunted house had been a stupid idea. It wasn’t as terrifying as Sasori had expected, but then again a group of ten year olds and one nine year old were probably going to be more afraid than he was considering he was used to more horrifying special effects and makeup. It came with his job.
The screaming he could handle. The hand holding wasn’t so bad. Sasori had spent most of the night holding hands with the little girls anyway. It was when a little hand had disappeared from his grasp that he had began to panic.
Sakura had screamed a moment later and Sasori found her being carried away by one of the performers. Which was how he and Obito now found themselves in a holding cell at the police station.
“What are you laughing at?” Sasori snapped. Obito had broken out into a peal of laughter. He pointed somewhere beyond where Sasori could see even standing up. “Really? I’m like a foot shorter than you, I can’t see shit.”
“Itachi and company are being brought in right now. I wonder what they did.”
“Okay, that’s kind of funny. What could your dorky cousin have done?”
“Oh, I can’t wait to see Uncle Fugaku’s face.” Obito continued to laugh. “It will make sitting here overnight worth it.”
“What? We’re not staying overnight.”
“Well, he’ll probably let you go but he’ll definitely keep me here as punishment for dragging Sasuke around past his bedtime and getting him caught up in this.” Sasori must have let his confusion slip on his face because Obito laughed even harder than earlier before finally explaining. “My uncle is the police captain.”
“Jesus Christ,” Sasori exhaled. “Is there any family member of yours I won’t be seeing tonight?”
“Hey, this would be a good chance to introduce you to him!”
“Obito. I’m not telling your uncle we’re dating while I’m sitting in a holding cell at his precinct.”
“It would be such a funny memory to tell our kids one day though,” Obito joked.
“I wasn’t kidding about those brats turning me off from having kids one day.” Sasori pinched the bridge of his nose. “Besides, it’s way too soon to even think about that.”
“You’ve tolerated me this long,” Obito mocked him using his words from earlier that night, “I’m sure we’ll get to that point some day.”
“Only if your family doesn’t put me into an early grave,” Sasori muttered.
“At least they’re not boring, right?”
Sasori would give him that. He hadn’t had a moment to rest the whole night, let alone a moment to relax enough to get bored. It didn’t mean he wanted a repeat though.
“Next Halloween, we’re staying in and watching movies.”

Hey everyone! I’m back from Japan. What a trip! I will post a bunch of stuff about it in a bit (still unpacking, jet lagged, etc), but as a baseline, here are the shows I attended while I was there, courtesy of Cagematch. I thought 10 shows was a lot, but I met a bunch of fans from overseas who were going to 20+. If it wasn’t clear before, it should be now: I am a fake wrestling fan. A howl echoed through the forest.
Sakura jolted upright, her eyes flying around in the darkness. Hana eased her feet up onto the dashboard.
“It’s still gonna be a while. Go back to sleep,” Hana called back to her. In the driver’s seat, her husband, Ren, glanced back too.
“Are you sure you’re not cold?” he asked her for the millionth time.
“I’m okay,” Sakura insisted, shaking her head. Hana and Ren exchanged a look. Blowing out a sigh, Ren reached back to hand her a thermos of hot tea. And then Hana threw a blanket on top of her.
“Kiba would kill us if you get sick,” Hana sighed, crossing her arms behind her head.
“Are you sure he’s alright? What if he runs into a bear? A Bobcat?” Sakura continued to fret, even as she wrapped the blanket around her shoulders.
“Then I feel sorry for the bobcat. He’ll be ok,” Hana replied.
Hana and Ren’s jeep sat parked in the forest behind Sakura’s house. The engine was silent. But the woods weren’t. Even at night. The crickets chorusing for miles at miles without end. The occasional frog croaked in the darkness. And then there was the anonymous rustling of other creatures moving about in the night.
"Hey, seriously. You can go inside and sleep. We’ll wake you if anything happens,” Hana told her for the millionth time that week.
Sakura pretended not to hear her. It was spring, but the nights seemed to think that it was still winter. She stuffed her hands in her pockets, rubbing her fingers against the warmers she had stuck inside. Shook them a little like tiny maracas in her palms.
For the past five days, Sakura had stubbornly sat out here with Kiba’s sister and brother-in-law. Just waiting.
And it had all started with the most mundane visit.
“I brought pie!” Kiba exclaimed as soon as she opened the door.
“O....kay?” she replied.
Past her leg, a black, wet nose poked out. And then another. Sakura looked down.
“Boys,” she warned.
Pakkun and Shiba skittered back into the house, their tails wagging.
“Oh, is Kakashi here?” Kiba wondered. Sakura opened the door wider, shaking her head.
“He got a call so he’s out doing... sheriff...ly things. I think that’s right?” she replied. She took a step back to let Kiba into the house. Laughing, Kiba handed her the pie.
“Yeah. Sheriffly. Sounds right to me,” he agreed.
Sakura peeked under the foil top and gasped.
“Apple pie, again!”
"Yeah,” was all he said before he went to greet the dogs. Bull sniffed at him, butting against him. Kiba bumped him back before Shiba tackled him and began licking his face.
“Kiba...”
“Yeah?” He rubbed Shiba under the ears, making his tail a blur. Kiba laughed when Pakkun butted his way in for some love too.
Sakura pressed her palm to her mouth. Thinking. And then she sighed, “Kiba... you didn’t have to. This probably takes you forever.”
“What are you talking about? It was only, like, two hours,” Kiba snorted. He reached into his pocket to look up the recipe on his phone. This stopped when Bull placed his front paws on Kiba’s legs, begging for more attention.
“No, that means you make, like, a million pies. And you only bring the best one, didn’t you?” she guessed.
“Uh...” His hesitation was an answer in itself as he rubbed Bull behind the ears.
Sakura sighed. She placed the pie on the kitchen counter and then stood there. Hands on her hips as she watched Kiba play with the dogs.
“You’re... so sweet. You know that?” Sakura declared. Wrapping her arms around him from behind, she kissed him on the cheek. Kiba turned his head to the side so she could kiss him on the mouth this time around.
“Anything for my girl,” he replied. And maybe if someone else had said those words, it would have sounded like a corny joke. But it was special when Kiba said it. So special that she felt compelled to kiss him again.
Kakashi had returned a few hours later to the smell of something bubbling away on the stove. Kiba stood at the sink peeling potatoes while Sakura chopped carrots. Her knife tapping away.
Kakashi hung his keys on the rack Kiba had mounted by the door. It was just one of the few additions Kiba had made around the house. Including a pot rack above the kitchen island and a new sink that could actually fit more than a couple dishes at a time.
“Hey, Kiba,” Kakashi greeted him, patting him on the shoulder.
“Sheriff. Out catching the bad guys?” Kiba said in return.
Kakashi scoffed. “Helping Tsunade get her cat out of a tree, you mean?”
Kakashi waited until Sakura set the knife down before he kissed her. He leaned over her shoulder, peeking down at the ingredients on the cutting board.
“I felt like stew,” she explained before he could ask. And then she pointed at the pie on the counter.
“Kiba brought pie again, so I figured we should have something good for dinner too.”
“Oh... he did?” Kakashi mused in return. He glanced at Kiba again, forehead wrinkling. He plucked a slice of carrot off the board and crunched it between his back teeth. Then, he reached out stroke the top of Sakura’s head a few times. She turned to him, a little confused, but not unhappy at the affection. When she smiled, he returned the expression, the corners of his eyes crinkling.
“I gotta make a call. I’ll be right back,” he told her.
“O....kay? Weirdo,” Sakura replied, laughing a little as he leaned in to kiss her cheek.
“I’m glad the Sheriff called us. Although, Kiba could’ve just told us himself. That idiot,” grumbled Hana. Her husband reached over to pat her knee.
“Hey, this is hardest for him. Kiba’s always had a hard time with wolf stuff,” Ren replied.
Because apparently Kiba bringing her food all the time was a warning sign. One that Kakashi had learned after his many years of observing all different kinds of monsters. It didn’t take long for Kiba to take a week off of work and to disappear into the woods.
He had randomly dropped by her house one night. Knocking on the back door when he already had a key. Hands bracing against the stair rails, Kiba kissed her before she could say anything. The kind of kiss that left her a little breathless as she tried to figure out what had gotten him so worked up this time. Especially given that she was in sweatpants and an old t-shirt.
“Hey. I’m gonna be... not around as much for a few days,” he told her.
“Um... okay?” she replied. A little perplexed by the vagueness.
“But it’s nothing dangerous,” he added, his eyes widening as he waved both his hands in front of him. Sakura giggled.
“Alright, Slick. Whatever it is, good luck, I guess,” she replied as she pulled him in for one last kiss.
Huddled in the back of the jeep a few days later, Sakura wondered why she hadn’t asked him for more details. And then, for the millionth time, she sighed. It wasn’t like she could go back in time to change things. And each time she asked, Hana and Ren tried to reassure her that everything was fine.
Still, she couldn’t help but ask again: “This is normal, right?”
Neither of her companions jumped. Hana glanced at her in the rearview mirror to nod. Her husband twisted around to look at Sakura.
“Kid’s establishing his territory. Even though the order’s a little backwards. It’s fine, though,” he assured her.
“The thing is that Kiba’s got himself a mate. And a hot one at that. He’s gonna want to make sure he has the space to provide for you and any future pups,” Hana elaborated. Ren looked at her, scratching the stubble on his cheek.
“I took down a bear trying to get Hana’a attention,” he recalled.
“That was pretty cool,” she agreed.
Sakura wasn’t really in the mood for laughter. Her anxious eyes returned to the woods. Staring at the bushes and leaves. Hoping that he wasn’t out there getting himself hurt. Or worse.
Shivering a little, she snuggled down deeper into the blanket.
Sakura didn’t know when she fell asleep, but she jolted awake when the car door slammed shut.
“Sak! Get up!” Hana whispered, reaching into the back of the jeep.
“Wuh?” Sakura mumbled. But she was obedient, following Hana’s hands as she pulled her up and out of the car. The older woman pulled her through the darkness. Sakura blinked, trying to clear the blurriness out of her eyes as they hurried through the woods. Twisting and turning to avoid scraggly branches.
Somewhere ahead, she could hear panting. Ren was running ahead of them.
“Wait. Isn’t that my house?” Sakura wondered as they hurried ahead.
They found Kiba sprawled on her front porch. Scratches covering his legs and arms. There was a huge scrape running up his left shin that oozed blood. Which seemed horrific to Sakura until she noticed a deeper gash on the sole of his right foot. He was covered in dirt. His chest rising and falling- like he had just collapsed there after running and running.
“How much longer will this last?” Sakura whispered. She watched as Ren took off his jacket to cover Kiba’s naked body.
“Not much longer. I promise,” Hana said, putting her arm around her to give her a squeeze.
The couple lingered for a while, but Sakura eventually sent them home. They both had work in the morning. There was no sense in them being exhausted too.
“Oh. Just one thing,” Hana called, stopping halfway down the gravel path. She turned to look at Sakura. “He’s gonna be sleeping pretty deeply. Don’t try to force him awake. Right now wolf-brain and human-brain are kind of fighting. If you wake him before he’s ready, you don’t know which will respond first.”
“Oh,” Sakura said, taking a step to the side, away from Kiba. Hana laughed.
“It’s not like that. Just don’t rattle him around,” she told her before she hurried after her husband. Boots crunching on the grass and the sound growing farther and farther away.
Kiba sat up in the morning, rubbing his eyes with the heels of his hands like a little kid. He looked over and found Sakura curled up beside him in a tight ball. There was a blanket on top of him. It smelled like the laundry soap that Sakura used.
“Hey,” he said, giving her shoulder a little shake. And then immediately regretted it because he had no idea what time it was. Or whether she’d gotten enough sleep at all.
Still, she roused with no complaint. Rubbing her hand through her hair, she slowly sat up. Her eyes were red.
“Are you okay?” she asked, interrupting herself with a yawn.
“I should be asking you that. Why aren’t you in bed?” he wondered, rubbing his hand up and down her arm. It was cold out here.
“Well... Hana said not to move you. But I didn’t want you to be out here alone,” she replied. And then she sneezed. She lifted the edge of the blanket to peek at his injuries. They were already scabbed over. It was still bizarre whenever she saw how quickly weres healed.
“You’re gonna get sick,” Kiba sighed, reaching out to touch her forehead. He stopped himself when he saw that his nails were caked with dirt and what looked like dried blood.
“I’m gonna borrow your shower,” he announced. Sakura ran a hand through her hair.
“Sure,” she yawned in return. And then her eyes popped open when Kiba wrapped the blanket around her and hoisted her into his arms.
“I can walk!” Sakura protested.
“I know,” he answered.
“You stink.”
“Sorry.”
As he stepped into the house, Sakura searched his face. Despite the healing, he still looked battered and bruised. Like someone had stuck him inside a giant cement mixer and rattled him around.
She leaned in to kiss the tip of his nose. Which looked like the cleanest part of his face.
“It’s okay. You’re my stinky,” she assured him.
Three days later, a single, drawn-out howl pierced the air.
“Finally,” sighed Hana.
Sakura jolted upright. “I wasn’t sleeping!” she exclaimed. Because she had definitely nodded off.
“It’s over,” Ren told her, glancing over his shoulder at her. And then he added, “He sounds far off. Just how much land did he claim?”
And feeling relieved, Sakura finally managed to sleep in her bed for the first time in over a week. Because according to Hana, it was over. Kiba had established his territory and fought off whatever lone wolves were wandering around in the area. Which explained all the cuts and bruises that he came back with.
Kiba went back to work, just as cheerful as ever.
Only, there was something slightly off about him. Which Sakura knew she wasn’t imagining because even Itachi noticed it.
“There’s.... why do you have so much food in your fridge?” he wondered as he glanced through the shelves.
“It looks like Costco in here,” Itachi muttered half to himself. And then he opened a cabinet to find it stocked to bursting with canned vegetables and tuna. In another there was a ridiculous amount of dry pasta of all shapes and sizes.
“Kiba keeps bringing groceries. He’s been really on me about not eating out because it’s unhealthy,” Sakura sighed. Which she knew was true. And she really couldn’t complain because Kakashi and Kiba were always cooking for her. And even Itachi cooked vegetarian meals when he came to visit on the weekends.
It also didn’t help that Kakashi wrinkled his nose as he clomped up the front steps.
“What?” Itachi asked.
“It reeks of werewolf piss everywhere,” Kakashi coughed into the collar of his shirt as he raised it to cover his poor nose.
A week later, Sakura shrieked when she spotted a dead deer sprawled across her lawn. Kiba stood next to it, a smile on his face as he waved at her.
“Morning!”
“Kiba, what the hell is that!” Sakura yelled through the screen door.
Kiba looked slowly from the carcass to her. “It’s... a deer? Have you never seen a deer before?”
“Of course it’s a deer! I mean why’s there a dead one at my house!” she snapped, her hands bunching into the bottom of her shirt. She could see blood oozing from the teeth marks all around the animal’s limp throat.
“Venison! It’s good for you,” Kiba replied, still unbelievably cheerful.
He jogged up the gravel path to open the door.
“There’s tons of nutrients in deer. It’s really good once you get used to it. Here, let me show you something,” Kiba went on, taking her hand.
Sakura dug her heels in.
“Seriously? What’s up with you lately?” she demanded, wrenching her hand from his. Kiba stopped.
“Am I being weird?” he asked.
“Yes! You’re being super weird! Why are you being all... all... just weird! A dead deer? Also, the groceries? And you’re peeing everywhere. Again!”
He scratched the back of his head.
“I just...”
Sakura opened her mouth to yell more until she saw that he was really thinking. Eyebrows pinching together, mouth twisting as he tried to come up with an answer.
“I just feel like, I have to take care of you. Make sure you’re eating a lot. Get more territory. Make sure that I can provide for you,” he muttered, half to himself. He rubbed the back of his neck as he thought.
“Why? You know I’m fine even without that,” Sakura reminded him, taking his hands in hers. Heaving a sigh, he shook his head.
“No idea. It’s... wolf-brain, I guess. It’s almost like...” Kiba lifted his head, staring off into the distance. He stopped talking mid-sentence.
“Kiba?”
“Holy shit, Sakura. I think you’re pregnant,” Kiba whispered as something clicked in his brain.
“Congratulations. You’re three weeks along,” the doctor said as she settled in her chair.
She flipped through the clipboard. “I’m glad you came so early. Most people don’t catch on until they’ve missed their first period.” And then she looked up. She looked from Sakura’s face to Kiba’s.
“...I’m guessing this wasn’t planned?”
Sakura found Kiba’s eyes. He reached out to grasp her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“A happy surprise, I guess,” Sakura told the doctor.
Kiba drove them back to her house, grinning the entire way. Even at the stop signs and the red lights. “Man. This is... it’s crazy!” he kept saying to himself, shaking his head. And then he would glance over at her, shaking his head again.
It wasn’t that she wasn’t happy. But Kiba’s reaction was more subdued than she had expected. Or at least, that was what she thought until they got a few blocks from the hospital. As they sat at a red light, Sakura watched his face. She could see it actually sink in.
Throwing his head back, Kiba exclaimed, “Shut up! YEEEEAAAHH!” And he dissolved into laughter. Slapping his palms against the steering wheel and stamping his feet. Sakura found herself laughing too as Kiba wiggled around in his seat. Pumping his fists into the air as he whooped.
The light turned green and the car behind them blared its horn. Even as Kiba resumed driving, he was still cheering and laughing the entire drive back to Old Pines.
They debated about how to break the news to the other members of their family. But Kiba took one look at her and chuckled. He flipped on the signal to make a left turn. In the direction of the police station.
Kiba waited in the car, waving for her to go alone. He had gotten the news first. He could at least give Kakashi a little privacy when he found out.
Kakashi stood in his office, a cup of coffee in his hand. His head jerked up as soon as she walked in. Sakura was sure that if he had been in his dog form, his ears would have perked up. Tail wagging. It was rare that she came to see him at work, after all.
Sakura headed straight into his office. She closed the door and drew the blinds, before she faced him. Her hands clenching and unclenching as she tried to contain her excitement. Sensing that this wasn't just a quick hello, Kakashi set his coffee aside. He leaned against his desk, bracing one hand against it to keep balance.
“What is it?” Kakashi asked, half-smiling and half-not as he tried to read her expression.
“A baby,” was all she managed to whisper.
Kakashi’s hand slipped. He tumbled to the ground, dumbstruck. And all he managed to do was continue to stare at her as he sat on the floor. His legs splayed out the way he had landed. Ignoring the pain in his butt.
“A.... what?” he asked. Even though he had heard her perfectly.
“A baby, Kakashi. In here,” Sakura said, resting her hand on her abdomen.
Kakashi laughed. His eyes growing even larger. “Are... are you... sure?”
“I just came back from the hospital. Yeah,” Sakura replied. She slowly knelt beside him. Smiling so hard that her cheeks were starting to hurt a little.
“A baby,” whispered Kakashi.
It took him a long moment. But it finally seemed to sink in. Kakashi wrapped his arms around her, kissing the top of her head over and over. She could feel his smile each time he kissed her.
“Wow. A baby,” he breathed as he held her close.
Itachi was just as surprised when she called him that night. It was a Monday and he was in Empire City working on some big multimillion dollar project. She could see from his expression that it hadn’t been a pleasant day at work.
“A b- baby. Like... wah wah?” Itachi asked, imitating an infant’s crying.
Sakura nodded.
“Holy shit. A baby,” Itachi whispered. Both his hands on top of his head.
She watched him walk around his kitchen once. And then he approached the computer again. Hands clasping on top of his head, Itachi began running through all the calculations. "We have to start a college fund now. And the cost of diapers. Daycare? No, maybe a private school."
"Itachi," Sakura called. His head snapped up as he refocused on her.
“Should I drive up now? I can call out sick. And... oh my god a baby.”
Sakura laughed. “You can’t miss work. You just told me you have a ton of meetings tomorrow,” she reminded him.
“Yeah. But that was before I found out that.... ah man. I don’t care. I’m coming over,” Itachi decided. And Sakura saw that there was no point in trying to convince him otherwise.
Sakura called Tobirama right after. It took him a while to pick up, which meant that he was probably working on a song.
And when the call connected, she saw that she was right. He sat in his studio, headphones dangling around his neck. The lights in the room were soft purple and blue. He wore a lapis lazuli ring on his fourth finger.
“Hey,” he greeted her. She saw him muss his hair. Fix the collar of his shirt.
“Tobirama,” she called. And then she bit her lip, smiling.
“Yeah?”
“Tobirama... do you wanna be called daddy or papa?”
A long silence answered her. Tobirama was so still that she wondered if the call had frozen. But then she saw him raise both hands. He rubbed his eyes, in slow, deliberate motions.
Tobirama sniffed. When he lowered his hands, tears glistened in his eyes.
“Sakura.”
“Yeah?”
He sniffed again. Wiping his eyes, he blinked a few times. His lashes heavy with moisture.
“You craving anything? I���ll buy it on my way down,” he offered, trying to keep his voice steady. As tears continued to drip down his face.
Sakura beamed at him, feeling her eyes stinging at the corners. “No. Just hurry up, you big idiot,” she said before she burst into tears too. Laughing and crying together with Tobirama. Who wiped his face with the sleeve of his jacket as he tried to find his keys and wallet.

Congrats to Kenta Miyake for Winning Best Actor in a Supporting Role at this year’s Seiyuu Awards + BNHA Cast Achievements
I couldn’t have been happier with this result. His One for All vs All for One fight was so epic, emotional, and amazing that I was nearly shaking with excitement.
I’m still waiting for this series to win the award for Synergy. This year it went to Pop Team Epic.
I also just found out that in order to be elligible for the “Rookie” award your debut has to be within the past five years.
You can see his additional roles here (he’s mainly known for playing villains, ironically), but he won for All Might.

Vamp x Werewolf Borusara: I headcanon Boruto and Sarada watching kids on Halloween and judging their Werrwolf and Vampire costumes. Sarada occasionally getting triggered by the usual red and black capes and Boruto always complimenting the creative werewolf fur. It’d be so cute!!

Sarada dragged her feet along as Boruto excitedly pulled her behind him. It was Halloween, the one day their parents let them out of the village and go to the city.
For a normal human, it would have taken them three days on foot. For a vampire and werewolf, one day at most.
Boruto was far too excited for his own good. His ears were twitching and his tail was wagging to no end. This year, he decided to go shirtless and just wear dark colored shorts. Amping up his half turned form with a little more hair on his forearms and shins for effects.
Sarada rolled her eyes when he bragged about being the best werewolf in the city. There were teens who looked about their age, well, physically at least, to be wearing other... costumes. Sarada felt uncomfortable knowing that most teens their age used this opportunity to dress less, than dress up. Even if she wanted to try it out, just to see what the fuss was all about, she was sure her Papa would never let her leave the house.
“Saradaaaa!” Boruto tugged on her cape and gave her huge puppy dog eyes. “Come on! Let’s hit Greendale first. I heard they give great candy there!”
“Tch.” Sarada rolled her eyes. Candy. Sarada couldn’t understand why it had to be candy. If humans wanted the monsters away, they should be giving, like, garlic out or something. Not that she was affected by garlic. Her mother would appreciate it, though.
“Gosh. You’re worse than Uncle Kiba when someone steps on his tail,” Boruto murmured.
Before Sarada could give her own quip, Boruto grabbed her shoulders and gave her a shake. “Come on! You’re like, the best looking vampire here! Live a little!” He snickered at the last bit, and Sarada had to stop the urge to bite his head off.
“I will bite you if you don’t stop.” Sarada glared.
“Oh?” Boruto tilted his head to the side, his wolfie ears perking up before leaning close and smirking, “please do.”
Sarada’s lips pulled back into a scowl, a low growl escaping her lips. She held her hands up, ready to grab him, when they were disrupted by a little boy.
“Woah, look at her fangs! They look so real!” His dark eyes went wide with awe.
Sarada looked at him and quirked her brow up.
He was dressed as a vampire. The typical red and black cape, as well as suit attire that she believed were fashioned after Dracula. His little plastic fangs were showing, too, and lipstick staining the side of his mouth, made to look like blood.
“You bet!” Boruto grinned. He then turned Sarada around and made her bend down so the boy could see. “And they’re really sharp too!” He added more drama in his voice, trying to impress the boy further.
“Ooohh!” He lifted his chubby hands up, wanting to touch it, but Boruto pulled her away.
“Nope, sorry, Count Dracula!” He then changed his accent to copy the Count. “But this van doesn’t like having her fangs touched!” He made claw hands to scare the little boy, for added effect.
The little boy took a step back, out of fear. Boruto’s fangs were showing, too. And his hands were half turned with claws and hair. The boy then stood his ground and pouted. “But she’s not even dressed like a vampire!”
Sarada grimaced. Was there something wrong with her red dress? Her mother used to have one just like it, and Sakura so painstakingly made it from scratch just for her. This cape was also a gift from her Uncle Itachi the last time he stopped by. It was dark blue with silver flames, and he said it was for some high Daimyo in a distant land who was looted a few years back.
“She’s a different kind,” Boruto shrugged before continuing, “she doesn’t follow Count Dracula. She’s part of the Uch—ouch!”
Sarada punched his gut, to make him shut up. Too much information.
A little girl came up to the boy, dressed in a pink dress but wearing a werewolf mask and werewolf gloves, mimicking the claws and hair.
“Raaaawr!” She roared. “Quick, run while I distract them!” She said to the boy.
Boruto’s tail started wagging, and his pupils dilated when he saw the little girl. He circled her and started sniffing around. “Damn, nice costume!” He then patted her head. “Who’s a good girl—“
The little girl growled and tried to snip at his finger. Boruto back pedalled and yelped as he pulled his hand back. Sarada laughed.
“Oh shut up,” Boruto snipped at Sarada.
She only grinned. “Oh, she’s definitely a good girl.” Sarada looked at the little girl and gave her a thumbs up. “You’re looking great.”
The little girl pushed her mask up to give her a toothy grin before putting her mask back on and holding on the boy’s hand. “Let’s go, there are more houses over there!”
The little boy allowed her to drag him along but complained about getting into trouble since everyone knew those houses weren’t fond of trick or treaters.
“See, Boruto?” Sarada stood next to him and leaned on his shoulder. Boruto immediately wrapped his arm around her waist. “It’s always the werewolf who pulls the vampire into trouble.”
“Heh!” Boruto snickered. “You like getting into trouble.”
She looked at him and smiled. “As long as it’s with you, I’m fine.”
Boruto looked at her, a blush staining his cheeks, eyes wide and pupils dilated, his ears turned down, and tail wagging.
Sarada laughed. He looked too cute.
“Happy Halloween, Boruto.”
He grinned so wide, his eyes closed. “It would be happier if we were fucking, ya know?”
Sarada rolled her eyes but chuckled anyway. She kissed his cheek and whispered, “maybe later if you can get more candy than me.”
Boruto smirked. “You’re on.”
Sarada looked at the well lit homes, decorated with pumpkins and figures that go bump in the night, as well as the kids and teens roaming around for treats. Even if she felt she didn’t belong in this crowd, she knew it was alright because Boruto would be there with her.
He took her hand in his and laced them together. Boruto brought it to his lips and gave her knuckles a light kiss.
No amount of candy would be sweeter than having Boruto by her side.
“I’m so going to get more candy and get the best treat ever later,” Boruto smirked. “You’ll be screaming who’s a good boy.”
Sarada rolled her eyes but laughed as he pulled her to the closest house.
It was a Happy fucking Halloween indeed.
