Two weeks in Japan were so packed that I just slowly realized what we were able to experience - from Shin Okubo to Disney café, Tokyo Rainbow Pride, an almost empty Asakusa Shrine and Aoyama Flower Market Tea House - I’ll be forever grateful <3

I used to pass by this guy on my way home from work, but forgot where I snapped it. Anybody know the place? Maybe somewhere near Shin Okubo?

Successor Au Headcanons:
1. Ever since he could remember, Seiji always had these weird dreams.
2. One time he felt like he was being coddled by his mother, another being suffocated by a man that looked like him, and one where a man with no face held his head with just one hand.
3. At UA, the dreams only seem to get worse but luckily he has his friends to talk to about them.
4. Due to his quirk and many others in his class, a sort of group formed between the teenagers bonding over their parent’s supposed ‘villain’ past.
5. Seiji looks up to Deku so much yet freezes up the second the pro-hero is close to him.
6. They do form a bond over a series of events despite the circumstances making it seem comical by this point.
7. Seiji and Isamu have a close-knit bond over video games, the same can be said with Aiko and Kayo with dolls.
8. Setsuko seems to be the only one who can make Shin slightly okay with trouble being made.
9. Tadao has to be pushed away from eating actual people apart from the raw meat they eat.
10. Once Seiji discovers he has more than one quirk, he slowly starts to realize that his body can handle so much.

Weekend treat: take mom to Shin-Okubo for the first time!
3/3/2024
I finally took mom to Shin-Okubo, korean town in Tokyo, for the first time. I had been looking forward to this for so long, because I wanted her to feel a kind of atmosphere first(since she tends to have a bias against a new trend, such as K-POP).
Tumblr media
It was so crowded there that we needed to walk through with a bit of care, but this was what I had expected, of course. Every shop that we popped in seemed quite popular especially with the young. Then, I thought that surroundings, where is full of merchandise and favorite music constantly echoing, could be better than the best for those who are very fond of korean stuff(It could be like heaven).
Tumblr media
We lined up at a food stand for hotteok, a type of filled pancake known as a popular street food in Korea. I had wanted mom to try this since I last had.
Tumblr media
After 15 minutes wait, she got hotteok and took to it in a moment, which made me happy as well. According her, she took honey for the first time in more than 10 years as she doesn't like it. However, she found her taste in food different than before through this experience. I'm glad that she could expand her mind by breaking down barriers and assumption; I, as her daughter, hope that she enjoys the rest of her life with her curiosity.

In Haruhiko Arai's new film “A Spoiling Rain” (2023), the sign on the door of a small Korean bar in Shin Okubo (?) is written as "생활의발견", a clear nod to Hong Sang-soo's 2002 film of the same name, “On the Occasion of Remembering the Turning Gate”.
As with Hong's film, “A Spoiling Rain“ is marked by downpour of rain, which is not helped by the use of umbrellas.

My friend asked me to post what I'd been eating while in Japan - while it admittedly has mostly been quick on the go stuff in between activities, here are a handful of meals from various restaurants I've been to.
The left photo was in the basement of Nakano Broadway. It was a little interesting - I had to choose my soup base from over 50 types of base soup packets and then they went to make the ramen based on which packet I picked. I hadn't experienced that yet.
The right photo was from a place that advertised itself as Pan-Asian (it seemed to mostly be southeast Asian and Indian based on the menu and decor). The dish was advertised as grilled chicken and jasmine rice, and the vegetables were pickled. It was in Jimbocho (the "bookstore town").
The bottom one was from an all you can eat Korean buffet in Shin-Okubo, including a lot of pork that we grilled ourselves.
