you lay back in bed, tossing and turning against the king sized mattress while struggling to fall asleep. clenching your eyes shut, you held on tightly to your grumpy crow plush, willing your mind to slowly drift off-
only to smell the lingering scent of his cologne on your favorite plush.
with a huff, you gather the comforter and wrap it around your form, holding your beloved crow plush close to your chest as you got out of bed and tiptoed out of the bedroom toward the hall. despite how the hallways were dimly lit, the sheer amount of times you have walked down these very halls made you accustomed to it, already knowing that your beloved’s office was settled just a mere few feet away from you.
gripping at the doorknob, you opened it and stepped inside sylus’s office, seeing him speaking to someone on the phone. yet the moment his crimson gaze meets yours, he moves the phone away from him.
“mr. sylus?” a man’s voice was heard coming from the receiver, yet the onychinus leader ignores him, keeping his gaze honed in on you. “we’ll talk at a later date. more important matters have just been brought to my attention.”
with those final words, he hangs up the phone, beckoning you to come closer to him, “what’s the matter, little dove?”
“‘m sorry… did i interrupt your meeting?” you take a step closer to sylus, basking in his soft chuckles before you felt him wrapping an arm across your waist. he tucks the comforter even tighter around your form while admiring the grumpy crow plush settled in your embrace, “it wasn’t anything important- at least, not anything that involves me ignoring your own needs.” he traces his fingertip against your bottom lip, smirking at the sight of your pout, “and from the look of things, i assume that you couldn’t sleep without me?”
you nod in confirmation, earning a series of laughter from him, “my my, i believe i’m spoiling you too much.”
he teases you, but still stands from his seat, carrying both you and your plush back into the comfort of your shared bedroom. with you clinging to him, you spoke in a drowsy tone, “mmm, tell me a story?”
sylus lays back in bed with you, still keeping you within his embrace while adjusting the comforter so that he could lay beneath it with you. his arms were wrapped tightly around your waist as he brought his lips towards your forehead, lingering on your skin while deep in thought. “hm, you’d like a story? well, let’s see what i can come up with…”
you nod and let out a hum, burying your face within his chest while basking in his deep voice, “once upon a time, there was a spoiled princess who dared to enter a dragon’s lair. she was a feisty little thing who showed no fear towards the dragon, even when he was a fearsome fiend. her bravery succeeded in making the dragon feel intrigued with a desire to learn more about her and her world. and despite how guarded the dragon was-“
sylus trails off, hearing the sounds of your soft snores as he smiled, pressing another kiss against the top of your hair, finishing his story with this simple phrase,
“the spoiled princess became the dragon’s greatest treasure.”
end notes: i may have taken a nap that lasted too long and can’t fall asleep 🙂↕️ so have this drabble as i enjoy the start of my long weekend ♡ this was 100% inspired by sylus’s chapter 5 touring in love event ♡ pls always read poetry and stories to me, sylus, i beg of u 😭🙌🏻

Unexpected [Bayverse TMNT x Reader]
Summary: Imagine the four turtle brothers falling for the same sweet, shy, innocent girl only to find out she's a ruthless fighter
Type: headcanons
Warnings: violence, mentions of blood
Sweet, shy, innocent, cute, adorable, lovable. The list goes on but that's how the turtle boys would describe you.
That soft smile of yours melt the boys heart every single time they see it.
You always support them like making meals or giving gifts for them.
Raph and mikey often tease you for your shyness, and leo often told them to stop teasing you
You and leo share the same love for books and often read books together in silence
You often praise donnie whenever he finishes his new invention, resulting on blushing donnie
The four turtles bros sworn to themselves to always protect you from dangers, well because they didn't suspect anything
(Although mikey once see you able to move lots of heavy boxes in one go when you help the boys clean the lair, and mikey only commented "wow you're strong, [name]!")
You guys were hanging out on top of some rooftop on one night.
"Umm, guys?" Donnie pointed at some thugs in an alley attacking some women and leo told you to go back to the lair, for your safety.
The turtles fight the thugs and their fight was intense, but the worst thing happened was they were electrocuted, weak on the ground
Little did they knew, you never go to the lair and were watching their fight the whole time.
One of the thugs were about to attack raph with a knife
Before he managed to do so, you jumped from the rooftop, and kicked the thug in the head, knocking him out.
"[Name], get away from here!" Leo ordered you, but you only steps forward to the thugs.
Another thug tried to punch you but you grabbed his arm and twisted it before you grabbed his elbow and smash them to the ground
One thug tried to attack you from behind with a knife but before he did so you kicked him on the stomach that sents him flying
So you took the knife and proceed to attack the rest of them with it.
The brothers just sit still shocked watching the scene unfolds infront of them, mostly because blood starts to splash here and there by your doing
When they gained their strength back, the turtles continue their fight with you alongside them.
When you guys finished fighting all the thugs, you asked the boys "Are you guys alright?" with the blood stained face with that sweet voice full of concern of yours, like you didn't just finish anyone in front of them
Don't worry, they still love you, but they make mental note not to mess up with you (they might ask you to sparring with them in the future)
I'M SORRY I'M NOT GOOD AT WRITING FIGHT SCENES

Canon: Teridax is stated to have created the water wraith, as well as the Rahi Nui and Tarakava Nui, alongside numerous other Rahi species
Headcanon: Due to the eclectic nature of his confirmed creations, its possible that Teridax didn't have a specific preference when it came to what kinds of Rahi he was creating, unlike, for example, Miserix and Bitil's canonical preferences for making large reptilian Rahi and insectoid Rahi respectively
Fanon: Teridax created the Ussal crabs, alongside all of the MU's large landcrab species (Keras, Manas, Mana Ko, etc). This is based purely on the fact that Makuta and Pewku share a voice actor in MOL, and the Manas were chosen by Teridax to be his last line of defense in his own lair in 01
I can't find the exact format, so I'm recreating it for the game:
Posting a canon fact, and a related headcanon that could be canon-compliant and / or a headcanon that is fanon. Sometimes, the distinction will be impossible.
I'm starting:
Canon: The trauma and experiences from their times as Toa Hordika deeply haunt the turaga still. Vakama at one point gets very angry. Hahli, in the middle of hearing their stories while chronicling, thinks the hordika might be staring out of his eyes.
Canon-compliant headcanon: It's possible that hordika transformation left more effects behind than the trauma. If they did, they were subtle and never came up as part of the story.
Not canon-compliant / fanon: The turaga have sharper teeth than others as lingering effects from the hordika venom. The teeth only come out in extreme stress.

Share a Lair 01 || Share a Lair
Henry was extremely excited to finally be paired up with a super roommate for his superhero advancement tests. From the way that he understood it, his only possible roommate options would be either another sidekick, seeking advancement, or someone who had worked in a group, seeking other leadership options.
Most of the reasons were the same - being in the lair or home of a superior hero made it hard for them to advance, but not having a superhero’s salary made it difficult for them to remove themselves from the situation. So, a collective of sidekicks, vigilantes and disgraced heroes moved into a lair together, helped each other rebuild themselves and their names, and out of the fruition of that, they started an agency that helped others to do the same: Share-A-Lair.
Share-A-Lair was still pretty new, but everyone who went into the program SWORE by it. Getting some space from your hero to become a hero in your own right was priceless, even if you continued to work with or beneath that hero. Henry wasn’t interested in leaving the Man Cave. In fact, he was to inherit it someday… But, his boss, Ray was pretty overbearing and honestly only seemed to want him to have responsibility in the form of hard work, not in authoritative situations. Henry’s goal for this move was to advance to superhero status and become Captain Man’s PARTNER, instead of his sidekick.
He arrived at his new place in one of three vehicles, accompanied by his two best friends. Charlotte had gotten there first, luckily, because whenever he jumped out of the van, she held her hands up to stop him. “There are booby traps all over this property, Henry,” she said, observing a scanner that she had brought along. He furrowed his eyebrows and she said, “Either your roommate isn’t expecting you, or they’re testing you to see that you’re actually a hero.”
“But… Being a hero wouldn’t make me resistant to booby traps!” Henry fussed. He searched his contacts for Share-A-Lair Roommate and whenever the man on the other end cheerily answered, he scoffed. “Hey, yeah. It’s your new roommate. This place is booby trapped. Any way that you can help me inside? I’ve got an overgrown child and a woman with me.”
The roommate sighed and said, “Wow. I am underwhelmed before even meeting you. You can go through the tower entrance without a problem. I’m not deactivating my alarms for unauthorized visitors.”
“I live here, now!”
“Your overgrown boy and hot lady friend don’t.”
Henry looked around and wondered, “Are… Are you WATCHING us and refusing to let me in???”
“I’m in,” Charlotte said, working on her tablet. “Go! I have to deactivate some of these upon impact. You’ve gotta move towards the door.” Henry listened and Max raised an eyebrow, watching her work. He pressed a few buttons and booted her out of his system. “Dang it!” She fussed. They were both working on coding to gain the upperhand of the system’s security, but by the time Henry made it through the front door, Max simply smiled at let her in.
He glanced up at Henry from a spot on a hammock in the common room and said, “Welcome,” as though nothing had just happened!
“Sure doesn’t feel like a welcome!” Henry complained, catching his breath.
“Don’t… You have super speed or super reflexes or something? Or am I thinking of some other kid?” Max asked, not getting up.
“I used to have hypermotility, but I’ve been without it for a while.”
“Hmmm… Then you really need to work on being the epitome of physical perfection.”
Charlotte and Jasper came inside and now, he sat up and reminded them, “I never approved additional company!”
“They are here to help me move in!” Henry fussed.
“I know you,” Charlotte said, pointing at Max.
“Yeah, I’m a pretty big deal,” he said and smiled.
“You got swung off of the Man Copter for being a snitch,” she said. “Max Thunderman.”
He frowned. He was definitely WAY MORE than that one run in that he’d had with them years ago. She… looked different. They were older, now. Adults. The dudes seemed to just barely be, but she had been a little more mature, even back then. “Yeah, well. That’s not a company approval. Per lair rules, no unauthorized guests in the common areas.” He stood up, “Meaning this common room, the kitchen, dining room and all passageways. Long story short, keep your friends in your tower.”
“I get the tower?” Henry wondered, excitedly. “Come on, Guys. Let’s get to the tower.”
“Wait. Why do you have to be in the tower?” Charlotte wondered.
“Because the underground is taken,” Max told her.
“Was it assigned or did you just TAKE it?” She asked.
“Char… Jeesh… Let’s just unpack…” Henry said.
“No. The tower is the least safest place here and you’re a less experienced hero, with zero superpowers, to his literal lifetime of superness and what 3 superpowers? 4, if you count that twin thing.”
“You’ve researched me?” Max asked.
“I’m not just letting Henry bunk with anybody,” she said.
“Lucky Henry, to have a girlfriend doing his adult work for him.”
“I’m/She’s not my/his girlfriend,” the entire trio insisted, Charlotte most vigorously. Max’s eyes widened.
“Whatever you are, you’re right. I am a better hero.”
“She said more experienced,” Henry inserted, but max hadn’t stopped.
“I’m a better fighter.”
“She said has superpowers…”
“And, I can defend myself and my home safer than he possibly could, and therefore reasonably, should probably be in the tower. But, I’m not gonna do it, because I want the underground. If he has any incident that compromises his safety in the tower, that’ll be good learning experience for him.”
“Unless he dies!” Charlotte fussed.
“Obviously. You can add “unless he dies” to any sentence and turn it into a negative.” Max gathered his laptop and pointed at Charlotte and Jasper, “Contact Share-A-Lair to register as guests, but know that my background checks are more extensive than theirs. Anyway, Welcome to your new home, Henry. To the tower with them.”

Fictober 01: “I need you.”
A loud bang, a scream, and the acrid, sulphurous scent of burned black powder. That was where everything had gone so wrong.
Reflected candlelight flickered over the glistening, near transparent flesh of the phantom's face as the two raced through the catacombs. If they could just reach the lake down below they would be safe, and she would be with him. "Erik, please stop." "We cannot! We're nearly there!"
That fool, Raoul had ruined everything. He had poisoned Christine's mind, turned her against him. His grand moment on stage at last, singing with his beloved and what had she done? She had unmasked him, revealed his deformity for the world to see. Then as he was preparing to make their escape through a trap door the fool had rushed the stage, pulled a pistol and fired. Christine's scream had been nearly deafening as they plummeted through the trap door into the darkness below. "Please, Erik." He could hear the water lapping on the shore up ahead, he could see the prow of the black gondola that he used to traverse the lake to his subterranian lair. He had wrapped his left arm around Christine's waist, practically dragging her forward as he readied his deadly Punjab lasso in his right, for all of the good it would do. His ears still stung with the betrayal of Madame Giry as she warned the young viscount to keep his hand at eye level.
Suddenly, Christine collapsed against him, her breath harsh and ragged. He fell to his knees on the cold stone floor, dropping the rope from his grasp. He adjusted his grip around her waist as he tried to stand and froze suddenly. A wet, sticky warmth covered his left hand.
He finally stopped and turned to his love, seeing the color drained from her face,. A rose of black and scarlet had blossomed from her midsection, staining the ivory dress he had given to her, "No.. No please... Please Christine." "My angel.." "I need you." He could hear running footsteps racing down the corridor behind him, but the phantom no longer cared. His love, his life lay bleeding out onto the icy stone as he cradled her in his arms. He turned to face the young suitor, tears streaming down his ruined face. Raoul himself raced up beside the pair, sword at the ready. He drew back his blade, prepared to run the monster through when he saw Christine's wound. He dropped his blade and leaned heavily against the wall, knowing that this was his fault. He knelt by the phantom's side, whispering softly, "Christine. No, please. I need you." Erik felt a spark of compassion for his hated rival. They had both loved Christine more than anything else in the world. He laid his hand gently on the shoulder of the shattered viscount as they shared their grief and loss.

I think I’ve finalized Ark’s backstory. I did a little editing to the previous drafts, but I think I’ve got the story in a solid place.
Since I’m trying to style it as an episode of Tron: Uprising, a lot of the episode titles are one word, so I’m calling it “Another.”
It’s split into 4 chapters and runs a little over 5,000 words.
-
Rough drafts: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
Second drafts: Part 1 | Part 2 version 1 | Part 2 version 2
Final draft: Combined Parts (you are here)
-
01. The Encounter
With Tron healed, he had started going on missions with Beck, along with taking on some solo missions of his own.
Strangely enough, the Occupation had been subdued lately, which was cause for suspicion, so they had gone out into Argon together to see if they could pick up on any hints or information.
Things had been rather boring, right up until they got ambushed by a group of five Occupation programs.
There were four Sentries lead by an unmasked female program with a blank expression on her face.
Beck had never seen the leading program before, but Tron seemed completely surprised at who stood before them.
There was no time for questions, though, the four Sentries rushed Beck, while their leader went after Tron.
The Sentries kept Beck occupied, coordinating their attacks to keep him on the defense and distracted.
On the other hand, Tron and the new program were fighting furiously, though neither one was landing a blow on the other. Move for move, they matched each other, striking and blocking again and again.
Beck slowly managed to take out his opponents one by one, until the last one was left unconscious.
Their leader blocked Tron's attack and looked around to confirm that her crew was incapacitated.
She disengaged from the fight, fleeing the way she had come.
Tron yelled one word after her, "Ark!"
The program paused as she looked back with a gasp, her eyes widening as she showed the first scrap of emotion since she had arrived.
It lasted only an instant before she shook her head, her expression blanked out once more, and she resumed running away.
Beck, worn out from his four-on-one battle looked from Tron to where the program had left, then back again.
Tron wasn't pursuing her, though he looked somewhat shaken at the encounter.
Beck made his way over to Tron, "You know her?"
Tron didn't take his eyes off where she had gone, "I did a long time ago."
Beck raised an eyebrow, "Care to tell me about it?"
"No."
Beck was about to protest about more potentially dangerous secrets when Tron sighed and continued, "But, I'll tell you when we get back to the lair."
Tron lead the way back, while Beck's mind buzzed with questions, who was she?
Once at the lair, Beck fidgeted slightly as he waited for Tron, he knew there was no sense in pushing him, he'd do it on his own time.
Suddenly, almost without warning, Tron spoke, "Her name is Ark."
That was the one thing Beck had figured out, but, it was a start.
"You know that you're not the first to wear my circuits. She was the second."
Beck raised an eyebrow, but chose to say nothing yet.
"Don't give me that look. It's different, we knew each other way back before the Occupation took over."
Tron walked up to the display screen and tapped a few buttons, bringing up an image of Ark, this time in blue circuits, instead of the red of the Occupation.
"She was a System Monitor. She was a hard worker and we ended up working together several times. She was friendly with the ISOs, which caused some trouble, but it ultimately saved her life."
Tron activated another image, this time, one of a cloaked program with jagged sickly yellow light lines.
"Right before the coup happened, Clu used a virus to cause chaos and further his goals. There was going to be a ceremony celebrating a share of power between Basics and ISOs, but the virus interrupted, causing death and destruction.
"Ark was stationed outside, the virus had gone in a different way, so her and some of the other System Monitors had no idea anything was wrong until programs suddenly fled the ceremony.
"All of the Monitors helped calm down the crowd and got all of the programs to safety. Then, they split up to try and find out what they could about the virus.
"Ark ended up alone in the heart of the city, when an ISO pulled her into an alley. They told her that programs were being rounded up for the Games, that System Monitors were disappearing, and that I was dead. They begged her to hide, afraid that her friendliness with the ISOs would cause her death.
"She was reluctant to give up, but the more the ISO told her, the more it made sense that something bigger than she could handle was going down. She couldn't protect the system if she was dead, so she promised to hide for a short while, but if nothing happened, then she'd continue looking for answers.
"This seemed to appease the ISO, who fled to their own hiding spot and Ark never saw them again.
"As for Ark, she found a place to hide that gave her a prime vantage point to see all of the missing System Monitors march in with red circuits to take over the city. If she hadn't been warned, then she would've been rectified like the rest of them or killed for her defiance."
Beck frowns at this, "She's rectified now, though, so what happened?"
"I did." Tron replied. "She stayed hidden for a while, until things settled down and she wasn't in immediate danger. From there, she quietly snuck around and learned about the Occupation and their takeover. She didn't care much for them, so she took matters into her own hands, stopping them from bullying innocent programs and picking fights whenever she saw just a couple of them."
Tron smiled wistfully, "In that way, you remind me of her. Both of you fought back despite the odds, because you didn't like what the system had become under the Occupation."
He sighed softly, "Anyway, it wasn't long before people were talking about some kind of vigilante, so I sought her out. We recognized each other immediately and she agreed to team up with me without hesitation.
"She was a good Renegade, but didn't last long. After more successful missions, there was word going around about a dangerous new weapon that the Occupation was working on nearby. The information seemed suspect, but Ark insisted on investigating it. To her, the risk of the weapon being real was too great to ignore.
"So, she went in alone. I waited at the rendezvous point for far longer than the meeting time we had agreed on, but she never came back. After that, I never saw her again. I had hoped that meant she was dead, rather than forced to be rectified, but I wasn't sure if that really was worse or better."
Tron shook his head, "With her suddenly showing up after all of these cycles, it's likely the Occupation is trying to use her to draw us into a trap. We must proceed carefully from here on out. If you see her, do not engage."
It was Beck's turn to sigh as he tried to process all of this new information, "All right, I promise. We won't jump into anything without being sure of it."
He walked over to Tron and put a hand on his shoulder, "We'll get her back, I promise. She recognized her name, she's still in there somewhere."
Tron nodded silently before replying, "Thank you."

02. The Mistake
Even though Tron didn't know exactly what had happened to Ark, he could guess on the details. However, he had no idea of the depth of what went on after she was captured...
Ark understood Tron's concerns, but this time, her concerns had outweighed his. He knew he couldn't stop her from going, so he had suggested that they meet back up at a certain place and time, so that if she was pursued, he could give her a hand.
She had agreed to this, said her goodbyes, then took off. She had been studying the building and the guard patterns for some time now, so she knew sneaking in would be easy. After that, though, there was little information, just that somewhere in the building was a weapon that Clu could use to easily stop any programs that even thought about resisting. Tron, her, and anyone else they could recruit would be in even more danger than ever.
The lack of information gave her pause, though, and for a moment, she considered turning back around. But, her pride and stubbornness won out and she kept going. This was something she had to do, even if Tron didn't agree with it.
She wore his circuits, like she did on every mission, and they brought her some comfort. Even if he wasn't here with her, he was the best on the Grid, maybe some of his talents came along with his emblem.
Getting in was just a matter of waiting for the right time, and she had timed her approach to coincide with the Sentries' movements.
For an instant, she wondered that if this gap in the guards was purposeful, and that Tron was right. But, she shook her head, if she kept believing that she'd fail, then she would. Even if Tron was right, and it was a trap, she had gotten out of worse situations. They both had.
Once she was in, she wandered endless dark hallways empty of everything but her footsteps. Trying to walk as quietly as possible, she made her way through the building, until she entered a large room.
Sticking to the edges and finding nothing and no one there, she slowly walked towards the middle to see if she could find anything there.
What she found was an ambush.
Countless Sentries dropped down from above and went in after her.
Ark activated her staff and fought for her life. She derezzed what felt like endless amounts of Sentries, but there were still far more of them than she had energy to deal with. The longer the battle went on, the more exhausted she got, starting to falter and make mistakes. After receiving quite a few injuries, she finally collapsed and was immediately surrounded.
Two Sentries hauled her to her knees, holding her upright by grabbing her arms tightly. She felt a disc rest at the back of her neck, another reminder that she wasn't going anywhere of her own accord.
Glowing yellow circuits ominously appeared in the darkness and walked towards her as Ark realized just how much trouble she was in. The Administrator himself had set this trap and she had just walked right into it.
Clu leaned down, "Well now, what do we have here? You're clearly not Tron, but you're wearing his circuits. Let's see who you really are."
He reached up under her chin and casually pressed the button to deactivate her helmet and reveal her face.
As her helmet disappeared, Ark directed a defiant glare up at Clu.
"You? Now, isn't this interesting? Here I thought all of the System Monitors were under my control, but it seems I've been mistaken. I thought Abraxas had gotten you all those cycles ago. You're quite resilient to survive everything after all this time. Well, until now."
Clu paced in front of her, seemingly trying to make a decision, "What to do with you? Obviously, I can't let you go. You've been disrupting things and making a nuisance of yourself."
Suddenly, he's back in front of her, leaning down, "How about a deal? I could use more competent soldiers like yourself. Give me Tron's location, willingly join me, and you'll survive. I'll make sure that you're well taken care of, with all the comforts you desire. I can't imagine your vigilante lifestyle is terribly cozy. It's a more than generous offer, but, what can I say, you've caught me in a good mood."
Ark's only reply was an icy glare.
"Oh. You're going to do this the hard way. Suit yourself. There's ways of getting the information I want and ways of making you work for me. They won't be any fun for you, but the programs torturing you will definitely enjoy it."
He takes a step back, "I could look at your disc and get Tron's location out of your memories, but, I want to hear you say it. I want you to give up your hero and personally betray him. I want you to know that resisting me will get you and those you care about absolutely nowhere."
Clu casually waves a hand to the programs holding her, "You know where to take her."
The two Sentries drag Ark off. She doesn't cooperate with them, but, since she's trying to save her energy, she doesn't fight them, either. She just goes limp and makes them drag her along.
When they reach the designated torture room, she uses every last scrap of energy to try and break free. She manages it for a moment, but it's a short lived freedom as they tackle her and slam her to the ground.
They pick her up and drag her to a table and strap her to it. For all the trouble she's caused, one of them hits the corner of the table, causing it to spin. When it settles, she's stuck at an angle and upside down.
It's disorienting and she's left like this for a while, until a program she doesn't recognize comes in.
She's adjusted to be back upright and the torture begins. Bursts of electricity are sent through her at different strengths and at various places.
The process is horrific, but Ark seeks refuge in her code, focusing on it instead of the pain. As a System Monitor, she's programmed to protect the Grid and do what's best for it. Giving up Tron would doom everyone, so she's secure in the knowledge that no matter how much this hurts, she's doing what has to be done.
Her screams echo down the hallway, but she never begs for it to stop, she never says anything coherent at all.
The torture is endless, all she knows is pain. Ark doesn't know how much time has passed or how much longer it'll go on. Sometimes she's left alone to recover, but the peace just makes the next torture session hurt all the worse.
Her torturer seems irritated that she won't break. At one point, she was jabbed in the side with an even higher amount of electricity and pain than usual, and after that, things never felt quite right. But, it was hard to tell much of anything around all of the pain.
Cycles pass and it's hard for Ark to know where she is any more. All she knows is that she cannot give up Tron.
Finally, things are different. She's left alone long enough for her to start being able to think. The pain is ever present, but her mind begins to clear.
"Still as resilient as ever." An all-too-familiar voice addressed her. Clu strolls up to Ark, "They say you won't give up your memories, so I'm going to make sure that you no longer have any memories at all."
He turns his attention to another program in the room, "Get her healed up, but leave the scars as a reminder as to what happens to programs that defy me."
Clu looks back to Ark, "I'll see you soon." He leaves the room and his programs to their work.
It takes a while to get Ark back in functioning shape, several different healing techniques are needed in order to repair the extensive damage done to her over many, many cycles. The outlines of the vast amount of injuries remain, though, just as Clu had ordered.
They bring her to another room where Clu was awaiting them. Two programs remove her from the table, and as soon as she's free, Ark tries to break away and escape. But, she's easily stopped by several more programs she hadn't been aware of.
Clu smirks, "A fighter right up until the very end. That's what makes you so valuable. It'd be a shame to just derezz you."
Ark's shoved into a glass chamber, which she immediately tries to break.
Clu watches her struggle for a short period of time, before signaling for the process to begin.
Ark fights until she can't any more. She struggles to resist what the machine's forcing her to do, until it finally takes over and her programming is overlaid with the Occupation's mind-controlling code.
Once the process is over, she's removed from the chamber and Clu inspects her.
"A story Flynn once mentioned comes to mind. He often spoke of an old User city called Rome. There resided someone who was called 'The God of War'. I think that's a fitting title for her, she'll help me put an end to the war for the Grid. Now, she just needs the name to go along with it." He puts a hand on her shoulder and addresses her, "We've got a lot of work to do, Mars."
-
03. The Rescue
Tron and Beck kept getting ambushed by Ark. Again and again, she'd show up with a group of Sentries, instigate a fight, and then flee afterwards.
They catalogued everything about every instance, especially the location, and a pattern began to emerge.
She was slowly leading them somewhere. But, at this point in time, it was hard to tell exactly where. There were many buildings in that direction, and quite a few of them were under the Occupation's control.
If they could figure out where quickly enough, they could spring the trap before the Occupation could set it.
Most of the time, she attacked them when they were together, but on occasion, she would fight just one of them.
So, Beck and Tron made a plan to split up and track Ark. Since she knew Tron and seemed focused on him, he'd fight her, while Beck would follow her when she fled.
It took a few tries to get it right. Several times, she attacked before they split up or ended up targeting Beck instead.
But, soon, everything lined up in their favor. When she was focused on Tron, Beck was able to stay back and keep eyes on her.
He kept a safe distance from Ark, making sure that she didn't know she was being followed. After they traveled several blocks, finally, she entered a large building.
Memorizing everything he thought was useful, he met back up with Tron to give him the information.
Thanks to being a System Monitor and his close association with Flynn, Tron had access to schematics of all the buildings in the city. The Occupation would've modified the building to their needs, but they had enough to work with.
Based off the blueprints and their experience with the Occupation, there were a couple places that they were likely to be holding Ark.
One of the sides of the building had a loading area, so, when Occupation members were busy unloading a truck, Beck and Tron slipped right past them.
They silently headed up the stairs, the first two floors they tried didn't look like holding areas, but the third was lined with cells.
The floor was dark, and only one cell had an active barrier and an occupant. As they crept closer, it was clear that Ark was in the cell. She was standing there with the blank expression on her face that she always had.
It didn't take long for them to deactivate the barrier and set her free. Tron darted in and quickly stunned her with a low-power pulse, just enough to knock her out for a short while.
Tron scooped up Ark to carry her in his arms and followed behind Beck as they left faster than they had come in.
Things continue going smoothly until they reach the loading area and are greeted by a group of Sentries.
With Tron's hands full, all the fighting came down to Beck, while Tron dodged discs left and right.
They weren't trying to win, just make a path to freedom. As soon as there was an opportunity, they ran for it, though Beck still had to knock down a few opponents.
Paige arrived on the scene just in time to see the two Renegades escape with a captive Occupation member.
Tron and Beck had set up a temporary base in the city, so they secured Ark and hid there while the Occupation searched the city for them.
Once they rested up from their frantic flight, they started investigating Ark's disc. Ark herself had woken up and was just staring blankly off into space.
The Occupation code seemed to be overlaid over her original code, though there were a few older memories that were mixed in and easily accessible.
A quick check of the memories revealed her repeated torture at the hands of the Occupation. There was nothing else before or after that of Ark's memories, the torture suddenly stopped, there was a gap of time, and then her memories of being with the Occupation began.
Since Ark had seemed to respond to Tron's voice before, they tried it again. Tron stood in view of her and said her name.
Like before, her eyes widened and she gasped softly, before returning back to her empty gaze.
Beck had been monitoring her disc, when she recognized Tron, a memory had briefly bubbled to the surface and he had managed to activate it.
It was a short memory, and the timestamp indicated that it was from some time before the Occupation took over.
There was no context to it, it just consisted of Ark standing there in her System Monitor armor, while Tron praised her for a job well done.
Beck looked to Tron, "Looks like she really thought a lot of you."
Tron nodded quietly, and with a heavy sigh, he went back to looking at Ark's disc, "There has to be something else we can use to bring her back."
Beck thought this over, "I'm just a mechanic, but, my wrench works with a lot of things, lemme try it."
He took the disc from Tron and attached his wrench to it. More information popped up and he started scouring the data.
The layer of Occupation code was straightforward, except for one section, where it seemed to go around and bypass something. The more he looked into it, it was clear that something was wrong, but he had no idea what it could possibly be.
"Hey, look at this. Something's off here, but I don't know what."
Tron gave it a look, "I'm not sure, either. We need a medic to figure it out."
Beck sighed, "I only know one medic, and I don't think she's too interested in helping us."
Tron looked at Beck resolutely, "We'll figure something out." They weren't on a time crunch now, so they had time to look into different options.
With nothing more they could do right now, they both took a much-needed rest.
-
04. The Return
As time rolled on, both Tron and Beck investigated Ark's disc, but came to no new conclusions. Time passing also lessened the search against them, so much so, that they decided to take turns going out into the city. Maybe a change of pace would help, and maybe they could find a medic willing to assist the Renegades.
Their brief jaunts into the city were unmemorable for the most part, right up until Paige found Beck.
He had continued to wear the Renegade armor and helmet, in the hopes that someone sympathetic and loyal to the cause would offer their help, but, this time, he got slammed to the ground instead.
"Where is she?!" Paige yelled, "What did you do with her?!"
Beck saw the opportunity this presented, and the many problems that came with it, and took a leap of faith.
"She's safe, but she needs help."
Paige hissed, "She needs help because you kidnapped her."
Beck shook his head the best he could, "It's more than that. There's something wrong with her disc."
Paige growled, "She could get the proper care with the Occupation, instead of a couple of vigilantes."
Beck sighed, "Look, I'll make you a deal."
Paige interrupted, "I don't make deals with kidnappers."
"Just hear me out. If you can fix her, you can take her back to the Occupation, no trouble. I just ask that you watch her memories and make sure that you think that going back to the Occupation is the right thing for her."
This gives Paige pause and she considers it. If this offer was valid, the Renegade would take her straight to his hideout, then she'd have the location of both Renegades and the kidnapped Occupation member. There was a chance that this was a trap, but, she knew that she could take both Renegades, or at least hold them off long enough while she called for backup.
There was no way she could lose. "Fine. Take me to her. The sooner we get this done, the sooner she'll be back where she belongs."
Paige let Beck up and he lead the way, "Do you even know who she is?"
"I don't know every member of the Occupation."
Beck looked back to her, "She was locked up in a cell. Did you ever think that maybe they didn't want you to know who she was?"
Paige didn't like this, but found a plausible reason, "If something's wrong with her, maybe she was quarantined."
Beck turned his gaze ahead, "Maybe. You'll be able to figure it out once you look at her disc."
He took her around a long path, trying to obscure the location as best he could. It might be a temporary lair, but he didn't want to just hand the Occupation an invitation.
As they entered, Beck warned Tron by saying loudly, "I brought a guest."
Out of their current line of sight, Tron activated his helmet and stood watch in the corner. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he trusted Beck.
Paige eyed the sparse room, "Nice place you got here."
Beck just shrugged, "Hey, you work with what you've got."
Paige went over to Ark and started examining her. Once she's done, she looks to Beck, "Nothing seems wrong with her physically, except for some scar remnants and the fact that she never reacted to me looking her over, did you sedate her?"
Beck shook his head, "No. All of that is the Occupation's doing."
Paige snorted, "We'll see about that."
She carefully undocked Ark's disc and started looking at the files, "Her code's a mess."
Beck gestured to Ark, "The Occupation again."
Paige rolled her eyes and got back to work. Clearly the Renegade was going to be no help to her.
She got down to the code bypass and frowned as she saw what it was going around, "Her energy processor is completely burned out, only a large amount of electricity could do that. She was unconscious when you took her, how hard did you shock her?"
Beck shook his head, "Not that hard. We didn't want to hurt her, so we used the minimum amount to knock her out."
Paige gestured angrily at him, "Then why is her processor destroyed?"
Beck gestured right back, "You'll find that answer in her memories. The older ones before the gap." He paused, then added, "You're not going to like it, though."
Paige snorted, "We'll see about that."
She confidently went to the indicated memories, sure that she'd see some sort of injustice acted upon this program by one or both of the Renegades.
Instead, she watched in absolute horror as a red-circuited Occupation program brutally tortured the program again and again.
She's about to accuse the Renegade of rewriting the memories, but she keeps looking, there's far too many matching memories for it all of them to be altered. Something on this scale would be far too dangerous for the program involved.
Paige wavered, her faith shaken. But, she quickly came back to her senses. She had a patient to take care of.
She went back to the damaged portion of the disc and went to work. She's not seen this kind of damage often and she wasn't prepared for it, so it's slow going.
After quite a while, she finally gets the energy processor fixed, but she's not done yet. Digging through the files, she sees that the messy, overlaid code is locked in as the default setting.
Paige does some experimenting, and after seeing the old memory featuring Tron, she uses it to make a backdoor around the default code. Combining the bypass with the remnants of older code from the memory, she's able to reconnect the original code. Once it's in place, she locks the original code to default and seals away the added code. With the extra code unconnected to anything, it won't cause any harm to the program, so she leaves it as is.
She double-checks her work, and once she's confident that everything's correct, she hands the disc to Beck.
"This should fix her. I have to go."
As Paige quietly leaves back out into the city, Tron looks over to Beck.
"I don't think she liked what she saw."
Beck nodded, "I think maybe her faith in the Occupation was finally shaken. I hope so, anyway."
"We can only hope."
Beck then put Ark's disc back on her dock and they waited while all the changes loaded and took place.
Tron stood in front of Ark, so that he'd be the first person she saw after coming back.
The process takes a while, but, finally, Ark's eyes light up and her expression warms from the cold look they had been accustomed to seeing. She blinks while looking around and gathering her bearings.
Finally, she realizes that Tron's there and she gasps, "Tron! You were right, it was a trap, I'm sorry I didn't listen to you."
Before he can reply, more memories hit, "Wait...they...they rectified me. How did you fix me?"
Tron gave a small smile, "With the help of a friend." He gestured Beck over, "This is Beck, and he knew someone that was able to help you."
Ark smiled and nodded to Beck, "Thanks and thanks to your friend for saving me."
Beck gave her a grin, "You're welcome. And, welcome back to the Resistance."
Tron walked over and freed her from her restraints. Ark stretched out the stiffness, then gave Beck a grin of her own, "It's good to be back."

Untouched: Part One, Part Two
~ ~ ~
You straddle Ezra’s body. His hands travel lightly up and down your sides before resting on your hips. His light touches send shivers down your spine. You moan as lean down and kiss him lightly.
He moves a hand through Y/H/C hair as he deepens the kiss. He enjoyed taking your virginity, he enjoyed giving your first oral pleasure with his tongue. Ezra can’t wait to teach you how to please him with your mouth on his cock. Your mouth is sweet and soft against his, and he knows your mouth will be amazing wrapped around his cock.
You pull back breathlessly and he cups your cheek.
“You ready?” He asks huskily.
You nod, “yes. I know want to know how to please you.”
Ezra moans inwardly as he watches you scoot back on your knees then dip your head to begin moving your mouth across his chest and down his stomach.
He brushes your hair away from your face so he may keep his eyes on you, keep his focus on you.
You reach the thicket of his hair as you kneel between his open legs.
“Wrap one hand lightly around my cock,” Ezra moans. He’s already hard.
You wrap one hand around his hard cock. The skin is smooth and taut.
“Swirl your thumb around the tip. Slowly.”
You swirl your thumb around the tip. You hear Ezra inhale a breath and moan.
“Yes. Oh—keep going,” Ezra moans loudly.
You keep swirling your thumb around the tip as you watch Ezra look down at you.
“Move your hand slowly up and down. When you get to the tip, tease it by swirling your thumb around the tip.”
You move your hand up and down his hard cock. When your hand is at the top, you swirl your thumb around the tip which cause Ezra to moan lowly.
“What about my mouth?” You whisper.
“Mmm—oh,” Ezra moans.
You lean down and flick your tongue against the tip of penis.
“Fuck!” Ezra shouts in ecstasy as his hands grasp the sheets under his body.
You smile wickedly as you flick out your tongue again.
“Oh, yes,” Ezra moans.
You swirl your tongue around the tip. Slowly at first then your tongue begins swirling around the tip faster. Your tongue is sending Ezra’s body into overdrive and you haven’t wrapped your soft lips around him.
“Wrap,” Ezra pants, “wrap your mouth around me.”
You wrap your lips around the crown of his cock. You swirl the tip of his cock with your tongue then slowly move your mouth down his cock, removing your hand as you engulf his cock fully into his mouth.
“Fu—fuck,” Ezra’s voice fills the tent.
His hands move through your hair, brushing it out of your face. He feels your soft lips around his cock, he feels his whole cock inside of your mouth. He feels the tip of his cock hitting the back of your throat.
“Move your mouth up and down. Slowly.” Ezra huskily whispers.
You move your mouth up and down slowly, making sure you swirl your tongue around the tip once you reach the crown of his cock. You know your tongue swirling around the tip gives him pleasure.
You moan against his cock, enjoying its hardness and thickness inside of your mouth. Your saliva is lathering is cock nicely as you wrap your hand around his cock then move your hand with your mouth up and down his cock slowly. Once you reach the base, only your thumb and forefinger circle his cock.
“Amazing,” Ezra moans, “move—move your mouth quicker for me. Please.”
You move your mouth up and down his cock faster. You keep your lips wrapped around him as you move it up and down. Your thumb and forefinger circle the place, keeping his cock steady. You moan as you lather his cock further with your spit and tongue.
Ezra’s fingers move through your hair as he feels your mouth bob up and down his cock. His fingers tighten against his scalp as his orgasm rises inside of him.
“Y/N,” Ezra moans lowly.
You moan against his cock as you look up at him.
“Fuck!” Ezra half hisses, half pants.
Ezra’s mind is focused on your mouth and the pleasure it’s giving him, the pleasure you are giving him. He’s ready to cum but he doesn’t want to cum inside your mouth.
“Baby, please,” Ezra moans. “Ride me. I want you, need you to ride me.”
You let his cock go with a pop. You crawl back up his body. Kissing his stomach and chest, you then straddle his body again.
Ezra holds onto the base of his cock. “Rise your body up and sink that tight pussy onto my cock.”
You rise your hips up and find his cock. You place your hand on his own hand, moving your folds against the tip then slowly sinking yourself onto his hard cock.
“Oh—mmm—yes,” Ezra moans as he feels your pussy around his cock.
You arch your back as you feel your pussy clench around Ezra’s cock inside of you. You roll your hips lightly as you feel his hands rest on your hips.
“Keep going,” Ezra moans as he looks at you.
He takes in your breasts moving as you roll your hips. He notices how you arch your back and bite your lip. He loves this position, loves looking at you take pleasure from his cock as you ride him.
He grips your hips tighter as he thrusts up once, then twice.
“Ezra,” you moan lowly.
“Ride me baby,” Ezra grounds out. “Ride me.”
You begin rolling your hips faster as your own orgasm begins to build. You run your hands down your chest then move to Ezra’s chest. Your fingers dig into his flesh as you feel Ezra thrusting up on occasion.
Ezra moves his hands back towards your ass and squeezes it lightly. He then squeezes it again, a little rougher this time. He notices you don’t mind and grins.
“God, yes,” Ezra moans. He loves this position and watching you atop him.
Your orgasm is cresting inside of you as roll your hips rapidly and Ezra’s thrusts meet the rolling of your hips.
“Ezra,” you moan out lowly as your orgasm consumes you.
Ezra feels your fingers dig into his chest and he thrusts up into you, feeling your pussy clench to his cock tightly. He explodes inside of you then leans forward and wraps his arms around you as he thrusts up teasingly, making sure he empties himself inside of you.
You loop your arms around his neck and moan lowly.
Ezra cups your cheek and brushes his mouth against yours.
You pull back and nip at his lips. You sigh contently.
Ezra falls back against the bunk, pulling you down with him. His hands roam up and down your back.
“Wonderful,” Ezra whispers against your ear.
You blush at his words. “Wonderful teacher.”
Ezra moans. “I want you to myself.”
Your taken back by his words. You want him to yourself; you know you don’t want anyone else. After all, you’ve wanted Ezra for a long time. You didn’t want no one else.
“I want you to myself too Ezra,” you whisper before placing your lips against his neck.
“Now we need to get off this moon. I want to spend hours with you back on the station.” Ezra remarks.
“We do have time here to do plenty of things too,” you remark.
“I know,” Ezra states as he sighs. “I’d rather be back on the station though. With you.”
-------
By some miracle you and Ezra make it back to the station, getting a ride with another team of diggers the station had sent down. You and Ezra had come across them one day trying to find the Queen’s Lair. They reluctantly agreed to help you and Ezra get back to the station.
You aren’t sure how long you were down on Jade; you don’t care. You return to the station a changed person – a woman who finally experienced the pleasures of sex and will continue to enjoy the pleasures of sex with Ezra.
“You coming to bed?” Ezra asks as he eyes you when you are settled back into your room aboard the station.
“You are staying here as long as you can?” You ask as you straddle him, and smile.
Ezra leans forward and captures your mouth. “As long as I can baby. I have more pleasures I want to share with you and you alone.”

Slime 300 – 01 (First Impressions) – Living La Vida Slow-ca

Isekai Series #48,763, the obnoxiously titled I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level, starts out super-dark (albeit tempered with kiddy art) with its workaholic protagonist Aikawa Azusa literally dying at her desk. She encounters an angel in heaven who reincarnates her as an immortal in some nice relaxing highlands.
Azusa is pleased with her forever-17 looks and witch getup—complete with a hat big enough to make Elaina blush. She’s also glad that the only enemies in these lush, verdant highlands are harmless slimes, which she decides to defeat at the rate of ~25 per day in order to fund her knew laid-back life.

Azusa goes on to live a slow, peaceful life in her secluded cottage, tending her field, making medicines from herbs, and basically just kicking back…all while defeating around 25 slimes a day, exchanging the crystals they drop for coin at the nearby village’s adventurer’s guild. This goes on…for three hundred years.
Before she knows it she’s the oldest and most venerable person in the village. The episode intentionally underplays this massive passage of time, comprising over three average human lifespans, but also underscores just how badly Azusa needed a long, long vacation from her hellishly busy past life.

When a guild clerk checks Azusa’s stats for the first time in three centuries, they learn she’s reached Level 99—slow and steady truly has won the race. When rumors spread of the power of the “Witch of the Highlands”, adventurers visit her wanting to test their skills against the best.
Of course, Azusa doesn’t really want to engage in such sparring, any more than she wanted to make a name for herself. She’s always been content to live her slow, peaceful life. But when the adventurers insist, she quickly dispatches them without breaking a sweat, and before she knows it a big red dragon is at her door, looking for a fresh challenge.

A short but sweet aerial battle ensues, with Azusa easily countering the dragon’s fire breath with her ice magic, which she then uses to fuse the dragon’s mouth shut. It plummets to the ground and then does exactly what Azusa had hoped it wouldn’t do: trash her beloved house, which in 300 years had gotten just the way she liked it.
Adding a slug to the face for good measure, Azusa makes the dragon promise to fix her house up, and it sheepishly departs to collect the gold it’s been hoarding in its mountain lair. Azusa’s seiyu Yuuki Aoi carries the episode with her highly versatile voice that darts from charming and sweet to annoyed and threatening at the tip of a giant witch’s hat.

While her house is in ruins, Azusa stays at a complementary guest room at the village office, and due to all of the goodwill she’s earned from the villagers and their descendants—from staunching a plague to protecting them from the red dragon—she never has to pay for a room, a drink, or a meal in that village ever again.
Azusa is surprised then, when a cute redhead with horns pays her a visit the next day and introduces herself as Laika, the red dragon she defeated. Laika has brought the gold, and begs Azusa to let her be her pupil. Azusa isn’t sure what she can teach her, but she does like the sound of someone to do all the housework, so she agrees. Laika gets to work building a larger dwelling from scratch that will accomidate them both.

When the sun begins to set, Laika assures her new master that she can work through the night to finish the house, but Azusa takes her face in her hands and delivers a “hard no” to that offer. As someone who literally died from working too hard, she’s not about to let her pupil threaten her health by doing the same. Too often “working hard” is overused in a positive light.
Instead, she tells Laika to watch the darkening sky, which is telling them she’s done enough for the day. That said, Laika is incredibly industrious, and the new larger house they’ll share is soon completed. Rather than kick Laika into the kitchen to make supper, Azusa takes her by the hand and they head into the village to celebrate.
While I wish Slime 300 had a more imaginative title, I am glad slimes were more of a means and not an end to Azusa’s story. I find her dedication to living a quiet peaceful life quite admirable, and it’s a nice contrast to more ambitious witches like Elaina, who starred in an more ambitious but ultimately uneven series.
By comparison, Slime 300’s wonderfully simple plot, lush idyllic land-and-townscapes, competent magical combat, and the all-star voices of Yuuki Aoi and Hondo Kaede (Maple from Bofuri) make it well-positioned for a low-stakes, high-comfort isekai viewing experience. It also featured more frequent and effective comedy and a more interesting heroine than The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent, so if I end up picking only one to watch, 300 has the early edge.

2020 Backlog Progress in Retrospect
2020 was the year of finally finishing the backlog. The final game ended up being Disco Elysium back on July 1st but in the months since I’ve built up a list again. Going forward I’m hoping to keep the backlog at 10 games or less since I’ve found I do like having a wider list of games to choose from after finishing something. After finishing over 100 games in 2020 there were a ton of classics that I finished for the first time, so many so that making a top 20 list was very difficult. I’ve always made this end of year breakdowns for my own archives but I thought it would be fun to share it this year alongside the full list of what I finished!
Top 20 of 2020 First Time Finished
1 Sakura Wars (Sega Saturn) 2 Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast) 3 Dragon Quest XI S (Switch) 4 Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune & the Dice of Fate (Switch) 5 Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss (PC) 6 Red Dead Redemption 2 (PC) 7 Mega Man Legends 2 (PS1) 8 Shining Force II (Genesis) 9 Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U) 10 Super Mario Odyssey (Switch) 11 Sea of Thieves (PC) 12 Phantasy Star IV (Genesis) 13 Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair (Switch) 14 Shenmue (Dreamcast) 15 Last Window: The Secret of Cape West (DS) 16 killer7 (PC) 17 Moon: Remix RPG Adventure (Switch) 18 Maniac Mansion (PC) 19 ZeroRanger (PC) 20 VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action (PC)
Favorite game of 2020: Sakura Wars

When I was looking back at this year, the game that stuck the most with me was easily the original Sakura Wars for the Sega Saturn. Back in December of 2019 the english patch released online and I was so excited to finally be able to play the first entry in one of Sega’s biggest franchises for the first time. I had yet to play any games in the series beyond just fumbling around an import copy of various games on Saturn and Dreamcast and I was glad to be able to experience it with such a well-made fan patch. It’s a very simple strategy game mixed in with lite RPG and Dating mechanics but there’s such a great charm to how well everything mixes together. The way they mix in the animated cutscenes throughout each chapter make it feel like you’re playing a classic mid 90′s anime and it was just a nice cozy experience the whole way. I managed to play through it twice this year and tinkered around with later entrees in the series but I’m hopeful that the sequel will get picked up as a fan translation project soon, otherwise I’ll probably be going through those games the old fashioned way with a printed out GameFAQS guide at my side.

Rejuvenation. If it has a phylactery, a destroyed lich gains a new body in 1d10 days, regaining all its hit points and becoming active again. The new body appears within 5 feet of the phylactery.
Spellcasting. Prismo is an 18th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 20, +12 to hit with spell attacks). The lich has the following spells prepared:
Cantrips (at will) friends, mage hand, minor illusion, viscous mockery
1st level (4 slots): bane, hideous laughter, chaos bolt, shield

9th level (1 slot): power word kill
Turn Resistance. Prismo has advantage on saving throws against any effect that turns undead.
I’m Where I Need To Be, And You’re Where You Need To Be. So long as Prismo is in his House of Mirrors, he can not be located or viewed through magical means. All divination spells fail to locate him or his possessions in his House of Mirrors. Additionally, Prismo always has a general idea where someone is located in his House of Mirrors, but never their exact location. Prismo can still be surprised.
Actions
Paralyzing Touch. Melee Spell Attack: +12 to hit, reach of 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 10 (3d6) cold damage. The target must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of his turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Legendary Actions
Prismo can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Prismo regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Cantrip. Prismo casts a cantrip.
Paralyzing Touch (Costs 2 Actions). Prismo uses its Paralyzing Touch.
Look Inside Yourself Detective (Costs 2 Actions). Prismo fixes his gaze on a creature within 10 feet of him. The target must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw against this magic or spend be incapacitated for one minute, spending that time being incredibly introspective. The target may repeat the save at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on a success. If the target’s saving throw is successful on ending the effect on itself, it becomes immune to Prismo’s gaze for 24 hours.
Did You Get The Scalpel, Detective?. Prismo forces keys into the bodies of all living victims of his house of mirrors. Each non-undead creature within 20 feet of Prismo must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw against this magic, taking 3d6 necrotic and 3d6 piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a success.
Prismo’s Lair
Little is known about Prismo’s House of Mirrors. A place where the eye can not be trusted, the clown-lich will taunt and toy with his guests when ever they enter the House. Often times in this place, illusions may become much more than their intention. Whenever a spell that creates an illusion is cast, there is a 20% chance the illusion becomes real. It does not hold any loyalty to its caster and acts according to its own nature. This does not include spells that effect the caster, such as invisibility. If Prismo is fought in his lair, his CR increases to 22 (41,000 XP)
Liar Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Prismo can take a liar action to cause one of the following magical effects. Prismo can not use the same magical effect two rounds in a row.
* Prismo rolls a d8 and regains a spell slot of the level or lower. If he has no spent spell slots of the level or lower, nothing happens.
* Prismo summons many glass shards, hurling them at a target within 60 feet of him. The target must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw, taking 52 (20d4) slashing damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. The shards of glass clean themselves up after the attack is complete.
* Prismo targets one creature that is adjacent to one of his carnival mirrors. They must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or become the warped reflection they see. Roll 1d100 and consult the table below to determine the creatures morphed state. The flesh warping condition can be ended by a greater restoration spell or something similar.
01-05 The targets hair grows obscenely long, blinding them.
06-10 The target grows a small face on their shoulder. The target has advantage on saving throws against being charmed, stunned, or frightened. This face will speak rudely of the target consistently.
11-15 The creature grows crab claws for hands. These claws cannot hold normal weapons but can function as daggers. Somatic spell components aren’t possible with the claws.
16-20 One of the targets legs grow twice as long as the other, reducing their walking speed by 10 feet.
20-25 The targets grow fins and gills, gaining a swim speed of 30 feet and the ability to breath water. They can survive 30 minutes out of water.
26-30 The targets eyes begin crawling around, acting as tiny creatures with a movement speed of 15 feet. The target can command their eyes as a bonus action and see through them as normal. The eyes share initiative with their owner and are unable to take any actions that are not the Dash action. The eyes have 1 hit point each and an AC of 8. If they eyes are destroyed, the target is blinded until they get new eyes.
31-35 The targets ears tear off and scurry around the targets body. The target is now deafened.
36-40 The targets teeth double in size. They can not use spells requiring verbal components.
41-45 The targets skin becomes stretched and flabby, granting advantage on grapple checks but halved movement speed.
46-50 The targets legs and arms switch places, forcing them to crawl.
51-55 The targets arms begin dragging on the floor, increasing their weapon range by 5 feet.
56-60 The targets legs double in size, increasing its movement speed by 10 feet.
61-65 The targets head doubles in size. They have disadvantage on ranged attacks of any kind.
66-70 The targets eyes disappear and reappear on the back of their head. They can now see behind them, but not in front of them.
71-75 The target swells, tripling its weight.
76-80 The targets body broadens substantially. They look like a square.
81-85 The targets feet and hands double in size, making fine manipulation difficult.
86-90 The targets ears become wings, giving them a fly speed of 5 feet. The target is deafened
91-95 The targets body becomes brittle, giving them vulnerability to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage.
96-00 The target must flip a coin. On heads, they are reduced in a way similar to the Reduce spell. On tails, they are enlarged as if under the effects of the Enlarge spell. This effect lasts indefinitely until a greater restoration spell ends the effect.

A/N: THERE ARE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS IN THIS. I DO NOT AND WILL NOT EVER WRITE IN SECOND PERSON POV.
This fic is most literally a labor of love. I started writing this story TWO YEARS AGO for my very best friend and soup snake as a Christmas present. It ballooned out of control almost immediately, and after all this time (and Wonho’s departure--I’m sobbing), I’m ready to share it. It’s an alternate universe (although we’re secretly convinced it’s probably happening in real time here) full of adventure, romance, and some sexy good times. We’re also pretty sure MX knows about it even though it’s never been published. I will be publishing chapters fairly regularly, so enjoy the ride (it’s a long one).
I will also be posting new oneshots and the conclusion to my Neo Seoul Series intermittently as well. Lots to look forward to!

“Really? So no one else is going to say it?” Changkyun blurted through the silence, his arms firmly stacked across his chest. “Fine. Why the hell are we back in the Smugglers’ Den?”
Jooheon rolled his eyes. “After all these years, you’re still on that? It’s the Blueprint Room. Always has been, always will be. End of story.”
“I thought it was the Tigers’ Lair?” Minhyuk mused as he tapped his chin.
“We’re getting off topic,” Shownu redirected.
“Yeah, what was so important you woke me up at the crack of noon?” garbled Hyungwon through a long yawn.
Kihyun smirked as he took his seat at the end of the long table and steepled his fingers. He peered over his black-rimmed glasses at each of the members—a spectrum running through everything from confusion to worry to exhaustion.
“I would have thought that would be obvious. We have another job.”
As the rest of the team took Kihyun’s cue and settled in around the table, Minhyuk quirked an eyebrow. “I thought the last job was the last job?”
“Yeah. What happened to idol retirement?” asked Jooheon.
“Do I get to wear leather?” Wonho asked, and Minhyuk elbowed him. “What?”
“It’s simple, boys,” Kihyun continued. “I got a call. Someone high-powered, someone of impeccable taste. Someone who knows who we were and who we can still be. And he’s got a job. Sure, he’s offering a lot of money, but we all know that’s not what this is about—maybe in the beginning, but not for a long time.”
The men watched Kihyun’s every move, from the perceptive narrow of his eyes to the subtle tilt of his head. When the boss spoke, they listened—especially with Shownu propped coolly against the wall behind him.
“Last time, we promised you retirement,” Kihyun added with a nod back to his shadowy enforcer. “Since then, idol life’s been good to us. Never in one place long enough to get bored. New cities, new adventures—”
“New women,” offered Changkyun to a chorus of sighs.
Undeterred, Kihyun said, “Point is, we’ve got everything we could want.”
“Yeah, so why are we back in the Plot Box?” Hyungwon said.
“Honestly, where do you get these horrible names?” Shownu grumbled, his hand rubbing his forehead.
Kihyun tilted his head just a touch. “We’re back because I know it’s not enough. For any of us. San Francisco taught us that.”
The room fell silent.
After a long moment, Minhyuk crossed his arms. “Fine, but I'm not going as Dior again.”
“Oh, come on,” prodded Jooheon, “you looked so cute in that skirt. And we can't put Hyungwon in it. It’s like a rubber band around his waist.”
“Ha ha,” deadpanned the string bean.
“Forget it,” Minhyuk insisted. “The last mark got too handsy and almost blew my cover. What about Hoseok? He's pretty.”
“Thank you,” Wonho beamed.
Changkyun rolled his eyes. “What about him? He's built like an Olympic shot-putter. Who's going to hit on that chick?”
Wonho shrugged. “If the skirt's leather—”
Changkyun and Jooheon dropped their heads on the table.
From his head seat, Kihyun smiled. He had known his team would agree to do the job—they had never turned one down—but he hadn't expected them to be so eager. He glanced over his shoulder to his muscular backup, and Shownu seemed to be waiting for him. “Just like old times.”
Shownu nodded. “Then you know what's coming.”
Trouble.
Kihyun didn't need to say it.
He smiled again before he circled the table and patted Minhyuk on the shoulder. “Don’t dust off your heels just yet, Dior. I have contractors on standby.”
Hyungwon took a long sip from his smoothie. “Outsiders?”
“An insurance policy,” Kihyun clarified. “The client’s, not mine.”
“Who’s the client?” asked Minhyuk.
Their leader shrugged one shoulder. “I don’t know. I only spoke with an emissary.”
Jooheon threw both hands in the air. “Whoa, whoa, whoa! Why in the hell would we work for somebody we don’t even know? The guy could be a cop or a Dispatch journalist looking to break a huge story or, shit, even a kkangpae.”
Shownu glowered at them. “Do you honestly think we wouldn’t have ensured at least that much?”
Jooheon mumbled an apology, but worried dimples still etched his cheeks.
“It’s true,” Kihyun replied gently, “the client demands total anonymity for the job, but we know enough to protect ourselves and our livelihoods. This job is important to him, important enough that he’s sending two of his best people to assist.”
Wonho shook his head and sighed, wishing for the first time in a long time that he hadn’t conceded the leadership position to Kihyun and Shownu so easily. “I don’t know. This doesn’t sound like a good idea. For years, it’s just been us. We know everything about each other. The good, the bad, and the Minhyuk—”
“Hey, why are you looking at me!” the visual shouted.
“—but we don’t know anything about these outsiders or the man they work for? They could be here to spy on us, expose us, or worse.”
“What’s worse?” Hyungwon asked.
“No.Mercy,” Jooheon whispered softly, and everyone’s heads hung for a long moment of silence.
Though they had always known exactly what the outcome of the survival show would be, in the end, their hardest task had been fighting to keep the hopefuls out of their hearts as they made their way ruthlessly to victory. It had been pointless. Their competition turned out to be a bunch of talented, soft-hearted kids who, in spite of their every effort to compartmentalize, became family. Each elimination was a cut to the chest, and it was the first time the clan had learned that the price of success was also crushing loss.
Kihyun cleared his throat softly, and the boys knew it was safe to show their faces again.
“This time is different. There won’t be time for anything other than the job. Besides, Hyunwoo vetted our new comrades personally.”
“Thoroughly,” their stalwart hyung added.
If Shownu said it, there was hardly a surer guarantee. The furrowed brows eased but the frowns remained.
“Now, now, boys, they're not here for profit or to get in our way. Besides, we're going to need every hand on deck for this job.”
“Since when do we need help completing a job?” Changkyun groused.
Kihyun tapped a few buttons on his phone before their smart table blazed to life beneath them with an aerial shot of a stadium aglow with the fireflies of light sticks. Screams and chants resonated off the cold steel rafters of their lair and vibrated in their chests.
Monsta X! Monsta X!
With a smile, he said, “Aren’t you forgetting something? We’re famous now. That’ll get us in most doors, but it also means that all eyes will be on us all the time. It nearly cost us the San Francisco job.”
“Even monkeys fall from trees. We got the diamonds, didn't we?” Changkyun retorted.
“Yeah,” Hyungwon seconded, “the bathroom cover worked okay.”
“‘Okay?’ Now the whole world thinks Hyunwoo has tummy troubles,” snickered Wonho. From the other end of the table, their hyung glowered and the smile disappeared from everyone’s faces. More soberly, Wonho added, “Kihyun’s right. The waitress knew who we were, and she blogged the whole thing to the second.”
“My point, boys, is that we're getting sloppy,” Kihyun clarified as he stopped their performance video and pushed back from his seat. “We all know San Fran was a training exercise. A couple of two-bit, newbie blood diamond smugglers? That should have been a two-thirty-flat job from get-in to getaway. Instead, it took an entire lunch, a messy cover-up fan photoshoot, and, at best, we got away with barely enough to feed that village for a month.”
As the boys wallowed once again in their lackluster final heist, their leader circled the table, his fingers tracing the back of his teammates' chairs. “Remember when we first met? Remember everything we had to go through to get here? No one would say it wasn't worth it. And I don't know about you guys, but as much as I love being Monsta X, I miss when we were just The Tribe, when the only things that mattered were our freedom and our brotherhood.”
They had been together so long, suffered every trial and tribulation so united, that their memories synchronized into the same zoetrope of dark alleys lit by fires, car chases through downpours, and celebrations drowned in a gallon of soju. It was a beautiful, muddled mess, just like their time together.
Wonho tipped back in his chair, an easy smile on his face as he watched Kihyun. “So, what's the job, boss?”
“Just about the only thing that can convince you guys to leave retirement again: a real challenge. Damn near impossible, if I’m being realistic.”
Hyungwon raised his eyebrows. “Isn't that what you said about No.Mercy? And we know how that turned out.”
Kihyun shook his head. “Diamond heists, yacht theft, rigging a national broadcast? Consider those an audition. We'll need everything we’ve learned and more for this con.”
“No.Mercy was child's play?” Jooheon said, wounded.
Kihyun squeezed his friend’s shoulders reassuringly. “Of course not. It was carefully orchestrated and flawlessly executed by all of you, but that plan was over a year in the making. For this job, we have one month.”
“Twenty-eight days to be exact,” Shownu amended. The group waited, and when no explanation came from their leader, Shownu added, “An art heist.”
Hyungwon sagged down onto the table, his eyes drifting shut. “You woke me up to steal a painting? We stole a three billion-won yacht. Isn’t this a little below our pay grade?”
“We don’t get paid anything for these stunts,” Changkyun said as he rapped a knuckle on his neighbor’s head.
“Since when is it about the price tag?” Wonho continued to scold, and Hyungwon hid his pout behind another sip of his drink. “We’ve only ever done this for two reasons—”
“Justice and righteousness,” Minhyuk answered with a proud beam and a V for victory, and Jooheon couldn’t resist pinching the apple of his friend’s cheek.
“Maybe three,” added Changkyun. “An adrenaline rush.”
The group shared a smirk. No arguments there.
“Okay, but even if it sounds like fun, you know we’re on the verge of another comeback, and you want us to do more work?”
“Forgive our turtle, boss,” Minhyuk soothed. “You know how he gets when you wake him up from a nap.”
Kihyun paid it no mind—he was in too good of a mood. Despite Hyungwon’s lazy attempts at opposition, Kihyun knew his boys still kindled the same spark they had since childhood; he just needed a little more accelerant.
He brought up another video on the table, this time of their set at the San Francisco Jingleball. A smirk buoyed his cheek as he felt their pulse-pounding race to the arena anew, all of them still wearing their heist clothes. Wonho hadn’t even bothered to change his gloves, and cheeky Minhyuk had flaunted their haul with a stolen diamond in his ear.
He let their first song play at full volume, but instead of watching their performance, he watched his team. Smiles, wide eyes, slow nods. It was all coming together. He lowered the volume before the second song took over and said, “Remember this? If you could describe it in one word, what word would you pick?”
“Fire,” Jooheon answered immediately.
“Exactly!” Kihyun trumpeted with an emphatic slap of his palms against the table. “That job was just what we needed to re-energize ourselves. It didn’t matter that we were physically and emotionally drained. It didn’t matter that we were nine thousand kilometers from home. We were on fire again.”
“Yeah, but we're not just talking some one-day sugar rush,” Wonho said. “You're talking about full-blown months of planning.”
“Twenty-eight days,” Shownu reminded again.
“Fine, 28 days, right before a comeback.”
“Exactly,” Kihyun said again, this time with the perfect tinge of an impending epiphany. “A job like this could change everything for us. I know how hard you’ve all been working to make this our greatest comeback ever, but we’re at our best when we’re smashing through our limits. I need you all to remember that over the next few minutes.”
Wonho narrowed his eyes. “I take it our limits are about to be tested?”
“The clock moves whether or not you’re ready for it,” Shownu added rather darkly.
“I’m always ready!” said Minhyuk with a fist raised. “Hwaiting!”
Shownu’s phone buzzed, and all heads shot to him while Kihyun smiled at his team. “Good.”
“I don’t like this,” Jooheon muttered.
Kihyun pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and leveled his eyes at the door. “If it makes you feel any better, I haven’t met them either.”
“That makes me feel way worse!”
Shownu paused the video on the table and headed up the stairs to the landing. With a stern look back at his boys, he warned, “Be on your best behavior. Our guests are here.”

Everyone heal your epilogue stress with another chapter of my Rosemary fic!!! Even if it is a little...dare I say........sadstuck. You can also read it on ao3 here.
Be Kanaya
When you return for training the next day, no one mentions it. You bump shoulders with Terezi while running from a crash of Time in the air behind you, and the sureness with which she hooks her arm into yours dissolves your weeks away from battle as if they had never taken place.
You wonder if Vriska feels just how erratic her control of Mind has become. You wonder if she encourages the chaos so she can feel in control of something, watching as space spits her aspect outwards, hitting the potential decisions of your allies as Vriska deflects the onslaught, cackles as it overwhelms Dave for a moment, drops him to his knees. You wonder why you bother aiming Mind at a wall at all as Karkat wretches, his matesprit opting to curse out Vriska rather than either source of the attack.
No one questions why this is.
When Dave’s time whips into Terezi’s control, you are in the sphere of influence this time, spiraled backwards into a time as a young grub when you grappled with the feelings you failed to have for a boy who, for all intensive purposes, you should have been the perfect kismesis for. You feel the smallness, the vulnerability rocket through you as you struggle to warp the space between the fraymotifing pair, and this time when Vriska laughs you swear it’s at your prepubescent shame, spilling out of every pore as the waves of purple escape the wall, embrace you instead.
If this is the case, no one mentions it.
Maybe there’s less to mention than you think.
Be Kanaya, one day later.
You would like to tell Rose about this.
Between the thorns of her disapproval, there is a unification of ideals that you crave every time you are left open on the battlefield, emotional wound of a girl as you heave and bleed.
She is not around for three days to ask where the blood comes from.
Maybe you don’t look quite hard enough.
Vriska mourns the loss of structure silently, the threat of your hard fought-for weekend creeping into the edges of her training schedule for the day. She pushes you harder, lights into each of your arms and bodies and torsos with a fresh intensity, delivering the promise of a weekend spent on self-repair.
Freeing you from the burden of unstructured time.
=>
There was an inkling you had, before your coupled departure, that the pressure Vriska put on you all to perform was not uniform. As you watch the blood trickle down Karkat’s forehead, bright red, unnatural saturation running over the hills of his face and through his bared teeth, this is confirmed. Head wounds bleed a lot: it’s something you’re all familiar with. But the intensity of his blood, of his entire approach to battle sets you all silently on edge. It’s different from the unhinged approach Terezi allows her aspect: endangering others is, in some way, part and parcel with your overall goals. But when Karkat fails, or refuses, for the hundredth time to deflect an attack, to focus his energy on himself over adversary, the message in the air is unmistakable.
He won’t let Dave defend him outside of battle.
When they pull their fraymotif together, hot red bursting over the wall in liquid waves, Dave shoots every attack back into history, vaccuums them from the timeline altogether.
These are the only times Karkat will defend himself: under the cloak of Dave, red explosion incomprehensible in their combination.
You all remember the first time Dave came between him and Vriska, the only one who’d allow himself the vulnerability to worry for Karkat out loud. To demand that Vriska stop launching attacks exactly where she knew they would hurt, pull the hot red of shame over the honest slice of agony.
Dave was the only one to begin to put a name to the truth in the air: that Karkat didn’t see himself coming out of this battle alive.
No one named it explicitly: Dave only pressed into Vriska, demanding, finger to her chest as the rest curled into his cape. Why Karkat’s focus was never re-directed to defensive practices; why no one had a problem with how much of the blood on the floor was always Karkat’s.
Vriska only lauded Karkat’s dedication in response, the comfort with his potential demise a tether binding the two of them together.
Dave and Karkat left together that day, returned separately the next.
Dave’s eyewear did little to hide his ire, but it was never brought up again. The only indication left was the hot anger on his face behind his matesprit’s back, the chill of inevitability sitting, fog-like, over the room.
You refuse to auspticize the comfort with Karkat’s death he shares with Vriska.
But you make a silent commitment not to let another boy be destroyed by her.
Be Rose
You haven’t left your room in four days.
Shuffling down the corridor, sleeve sliding along the wall, you text Kanaya as your mind churns with data. There is so much to absorb, you think, to consider in the accumulated mass of troll and human text alike. Your novels are annotated with brusque, splattered strokes in the room you’ve left behind, and you carry the synthesized conclusions with you in the well of your mind on your way to see her. You are excited, you think, to see someone who can be an audience. The inclinations of your heart burble deeper, muted, under the cascading cipher of the rational mind.

TT: So, Kanaya, to what do I owe the pleasure of you summoning me from my lair?
GA: Oh Its Status Has Been Updated To Lair Since We Last Spoke?
GA: I’m Anticipating An Excess Of Macabre The Next Time I’m Over.
GA: At Least As Far As Decor Is Concerned.
GA: Otherwise A Demotion Back To Block May Be In Order.
TT: I promise nothing but the most appropriately monikered interior.
TT: Cultural norms on earth dictate such an abode if I’m to be consorting with a woman of the vampiric persuasion, I’m sure you understand.
GA: Ah So It Is The Earth Equivalent Of Tidying Up Before Ones Matesprit Arrives.
TT: Only if you like to adhere to banality, I suppose.
TT: I’d like to think the supernatural element is a welcome expansion on the concept, however.
GA: Hmmm.
GA: Perhaps.
TT: Anyway, Kanaya, you didn’t answer my question.
GA: No?
TT: What do you have planned for our rendezvous tonight?
GA: Ah, That.
GA: My Plan For Today Is As Follows:
GA: [TACTICAL OMISSION]
TT: Oh my.
TT: I’ve suddenly found the motivation to hurry.

Your hand does not feel like yours when you reach up to knock on her door.
-
You are awake in her bed.
Shift of skirt, hair bouncing off of shoulder, you orient yourself: face to wall and arm tucked under stomach. It’s with a bleary brain that you roll your head, unite your eyes in tandem with her figure.
“Welcome back.” It’s delivered dryly, spine to face, and she finishes typing before she turns to see you.
Her screen is filled with cascading geometric patterns you do not recognize. They hum together in time with the focus of her eyes on you: intricate and intense, the illusion of constant motion.
“I didn’t mean to drift off so soon into this visit, Kanaya. I’m sorry.” It’s sincere: it’s damage control.
The shake of her head is slight, but present.
“Is that what it’s called?”
What?
“…Pardon?” A pull of legs under thighs as your body urges you closer to her, upright. “Maybe I’ve got too much sleep between my ears still, Kanaya. Sorry.” You deliver a yawn for emphasis, try and send her a sleepy wink to cement your camaraderie.
“You weren’t sleeping.” A shift of her eyes, her whole body, as she spins back towards her husktop.
Away from you.
“You ended up that way, more or less, but when you came over you were not…present.”
The rip of guilt is hot, like a rope pulled up from your stomach, through your eyes.
“It was trance-like, but otherwise…unobtrusive. That being said,” A click of hesitation pops in her throat as she raises a knuckle to her teeth, swings her eyes back to you for the briefest moment.
“…it would be nice. If you could actually schedule being present when I ask you to come over.”
“Of course,” Reconciliation attempt comes too quick, too eager.
A trance.
“I’m sorry, Kanaya. I’m not always able to predict changes in state like that. Perhaps it would have been prudent to warn you, but…I did want to see you.” For all the rehearsed intimacy of your hand on her cheek, the emotion that claws its way out of you is still genuine.
You can work with a trance.
“This is a normal attribute of human soporofics?”
“Ah - only at certain echelons of consumption. It’s the sort of thing I’d enjoy alone, not necessarily on a day I’m planning to see others,”
This is not normal.
Fidget of fingers, soft disquiet of lost inhibitions beyond your own ability to predict.
This is not normal.
But you are fine, the moment has returned, the underestimation is to be expected from time to time.
Repentance re-adjusts itself, focuses on your girlfriend’s disappointment alone. An unexpected blip, but one whose only consequence is a ruined afternoon.
Salvageable.
“Would you like me to leave?”
“No…” Head turning, body with it, finally facing you in full.
“No. It’s alright. I’d like to at least spend some time together before I fall asleep.”
Be Rose, 41 minutes later
Kanaya’s hair is slick with sopor, gathered at her temples and rubbed in thick, decisive lines over her forehead. You can see the streak of her fingertips etched into the green on the back of her neck when she moves to turn off the light.
You have to remind yourself not to play with her hair as you sleep, subtract the buffer between slightly unpleasant nocturnal solemnity and nightmare.
Tucked with one arm to her chest, the other circling her back, you feel the gentle brush of lips and the edges of teeth on your forehead as she starts to drift to sleep. You think of how soft Kanaya’s hair always is when you wake up, sopor-treated silk, and wonder if the gentle frame of dry black on her face in those morning hours is the sign of a nightmare ripping through her mind.
You feel childlike, infantile as her arms circle you into her chest, disgust soaking you lightly until a fluid equally familiar pulls you under entirely.
You never did find out what she wanted to tell you
Be past Rose
“Kanaya!”
Did you forget?
You’re Kanaya Maryam.
You have just finished training with the rest of your friends, and have filtered out with slightly less urgency than the rest of them. Training in a group is more strenuous than you remembered, possibly because of Vriska’s overenthusiastic testing of your independently practiced abilities. Catching your breath at the hallway’s threshold, you turn to see Terezi walking towards you, hands shoved into her pockets.
“Terezi,” you greet, voice uneven with the remnants of exertion. Her face is illuminated as she steps into your your radius, reminds you of the energy brimming from your skin.
“Ah, sorry…” Hum of lambent skin lifts into the corners of her lips, over the hills of her cheeks as your phosphorescence pops, extinguishes. She is lit, now, only by the distant lamps of the hallway, glowing a soft red under her chin.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something!” Straight to business, no pretense:
“Was this you?”
Your eyes struggle to register, in the dark, what she is pointing to on the right side of her face. Something whips through you as you identify the “what” as bite marks, and you force your eyes back onto hers when you start to recognize the soft pucker of blood pooling around both scars.
You struggle to excuse your proclivity for blood theft.
“I’m afraid so.” Is all you’re able to cough up, dull throb of your face’s light bouncing off of hers in embarrassment. The pinch of teal in your gut Sings, shooting through your system as it begs to be reunited, made whole as you watch the way her blood pools lightly under the healed wound
“I didn’t expect there to be such a physical effect when I woke up, I admit I may have gotten…”
You struggle to find a better word, utterly fail.
“Snacky.”
She cackles, elated, head thrown back and uniform fangs exposed to the sky.
“That’s great!” She enthuses, and you hear the echo of an “eight” in her pronunciation.
“I didn’t mean to leave a mark,” You’re reassuring yourself, not her. She is positively jubilant over the revelation.
“I wasn’t exactly using every faculty of my think pan when that happened. I’ll admit getting cored left something to be desired in my…proclivity for foresight…” You tap your chin, lightly, a small bounce of light flickering with each collision of your nail.
“I don’t care about that at all!” It’s a dismissal and a reassurance: the Terezi special.
“Nothing wrong with a little battle scarring, Kanaya. But!” You feel the light slap of her cane on your ankle, soft repetitious tap communicating the post-strife excitement still rattling over her bones.
“What’s the story with your new spectrum imbibing lifestyle?”
You pause, hesitant, then surprise yourself by deftly pulling up the lip of your shirt, revealing the writhing mass of your stubbornly healing stomach.
The air is silent between you two for a moment, interrupted only by the wet slither of your churning organs.
“NEAT!” Comes her excited response, and you feel a warmth hit your bloodpusher as you immediately understand your comfort in trusting her with this.
