7, 15, 23, and 39 please :)
7. which ocs would feel super out of place at a formal event? which ocs are completely fine with it? -Out of place would be Rand, Mimora and Argento. Rand because he's very 'of the earth" kinda guy not big into parties and Mimora & Argento because formalities are a never ending chore.
Completely fine with it however: Seraphina, Void and Amber who have all enjoy playing dress up of some kind or another
Pudding for proof: vvv
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
15. which ocs are too self-sacrificial?
Hands Down: Voidcrest
Tumblr media
23. which ocs have the most book intelligence? which have the least?
+Smartest of the bunch is Argento and Mimora topping the charts, with Tomir close behind +Least in the group is definitely Amber and possibly Rand
Tumblr media
39. which ocs set multiple alarms? which only need one? which don’t set alarms at all?
+Seraphina doesn't need alarms to wake up for her exercise routine +Void doesn't sleep. Period. +Amber, Argento and Tomir would set one alarm +Brentan and Mimora would need about seven to wake up

Idk if you've been asked this recently (very sorry if have, feel free to just delete this), but do you have any tips for creating your own pantheon? I'm currently trying to make one for my own fantasy world (that could easily become just my own personal pantheon to work with as a witch), but I keep hitting roadblocks. Mainly due to the fact that I want them to have multiple domains (ideally 3-4 things they're considered to be connected with) but, like, how do I know which ones? How do I decide their symbolism? Do they have holy tenants they would like their followers to adhere to?
Basically, I get very overwhelmed trying to create the small details before I really even have the big details and it's very frustrating. Any advice? Or maybe just a list of details that need to be known/created first. I don't even know at this point.
Heya!! :D I do have some tips and links that might be able to help in this regard!
When I was first making/working with The Jeweled Court I found this discussion by @thiscrookedcrown to be the most helpful thing ever! Here's more info from a previous ask I answered that goes into some more detail about how I made my pantheon! As for details to know/ think about:
This is a lot so I'mma cut it to save your dash :'D
Step 1: BARE BONES- WHO ARE THEY? One thing that really helped me was deciding what "element" my god/desses would reside over first. I had 12 elements and 10 gods to work with so from there it was just divvying up who got what. That being said YES there are STILL some overlaps. The link/discussion by @thiscrookedcrown was the most helpful to me here as it talked about Realms of Influence which helped me get things into perspective when figuring out who everyone was. Example: +The Sapphire Queen is my Goddess of the Oceans +The Pearl Empress is my Goddess of Freshwater/Lakes and Rivers Both are technically water based but The Sapphire Queen is the one who I associate the most with Water as an element because Oceans are just that much bigger than lakes and rivers.
Example: +The Sapphire Queen's realm of influence includes Travel (By Boat) +Lord Diamond God of Wind's realm of influence also includes Travel (By Land) Example: +The Emerald God is the God of the Harvest (Food related) +The Pearl Empress is the Goddess of the Harvest (Season related) AND HEY: It's okay if there is overlap! There is nothing wrong with overlap just as long as you can know at a glance who goes with what.
Step 2: BROAD DETAILS- GROUPING THINGS TOGETHER So that was my first real step in piecing it all together. So once I got my Elements placed with my Gods I went further into ANYTHING that could be associated with that element (granted this took me a long time to iron out and a lot of musing and thinking 'Oh hey that might be cool for XYZ' Example: +The Gold Knight- God of the Sun and Elemental Master of Light +Lord Ruby- God of the Hearth and Elemental Master of Flames
Both of these guys have Candles as part of their associations as candles have both Flame and produce Light. HOWEVER: Bonfires would be ONLY for Lord Ruby as it is definitely more flame related and Lanterns would be ONLY for The Gold Knight as they are there to produce light. Something else I found really helpful was to go by Aesthetics and what felt right/seemed right for each god/dess. (The Pearl Empress got a lot of fruit associations this way as she's a Goddess of seasons)
Step 3: SYMBOLISM- +AESTHETICS GALORE+ Since my Pantheon is partially Pop Culture inspired I had a base starting point for what I could count as symbols for several of my god/desses.
Example: +The Silver Lady- Goddess of the Moon and Elemental Master of Space (a very loose interpretation from Princess/Neo Queen Serenity from Sailor Moon. Thus from that I was able to start with a basic idea of symbolic things)
Associated with:The Stars, Navigation, Darkness, The Moon, Hope Other Names: Serenity, Luna,Selene Symbols: (Most things found/referenced in the Manga/anime) Rabbits Crescent Moon Rhinestones Compasses  Lotus blossoms Dresses Cats Crystals Sweets Star Candy Opal Moonstone Silver
Colors: (When choosing Colors I got a flash of the Silver Millennium Kingdom set against the backdrop of space) Dark Blues Deep Purples Silver White Mythical Animals: Pegasus (Helios Reference)
So for those particular God/desses it was easier and from that base I was able to have similar ideas for the other gods who weren't from other pop culture. Some were very basic/bare bones for a long time.
Example: +The Obsidian Emperor
Death, Protection, Spirit
Associated with:
Smithing, Metalwork, Death, Omens, Divination, Mining
Other Names: N/A
Symbols:
Chains
Metallic colors
Metal Jewlery
Hammer
Shield
Raven
Bones
Pendulumns
So don't worry if you don't have the exact specifics right away. Building is a long journey and discovering things as you go along is part of the fun :)
Step 4: RELATIONSHIPS- TOUGH LOVE OR GENTLE GUIDE? Using your current base from steps 1-3 can help identify what kind of personality they might exhibit. If you still feel stumped feel free to lean on an alignment chart for guidance!
From learning HOW your god/dess acts you can then figure out what kinds of people will follow them.
Example: +The Gold Knight- God of the Sun and Keeper of Justice +Lord Diamond- God of Wind and Trickster Deity
A thief would most likely follow Lord Diamond's teachings than The Gold Knight's.
Now you can move into how to followers might show reverence to the gods by looking through your symbols and their personalities.
Example: +Princess Amethyst- Goddess of Time and Knowledge: Followers often wear necklaces that contain sand in them to represent an hourglass +The Sapphire Queen- Followers will carve hair ornaments out of driftwood to wear showing their devotion.
Step 5: DEPICTIONS- WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE?
This step was hard for me, for a while they had no real forms but I decided that had to change and so I made designs for them keeping everything from the previous steps in mind. The drawing was the easy part once I had all my ducks in a row ^^
From Top to Bottom: Princess Amethyst, Lord Diamond, The Emerald God, The Gold Knight, The Obsidian Emperor, The Pearl Empress, Princess Rose Quartz, The Sapphire Queen and The Silver Lady
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And to shamelessly plug my own story
This whole group is featured along with a lot of their world building/lore in my story Fragments of Magic: Shards of Allunatia Book 1.

Books I Want To Read In The Coming Year
Tagged by @feeshies, tagging @friend-crow and @echosblanketfort and @silly-khajiit to start spreading this into other mutual/friend circles. (I do believe this is one of those that you make your own post for instead of reblogging the previous person's, hence this post.)
Would it be cheating to just put my entire TBR spreadsheets on here...? Yes? Okay, fine, here's just a smattering of them:
Brokeback Mountain | Annie Proulx
Fragments of Magic: Shards of Allunatia | @sailoraquila (it is downright shameful that I haven't finished reading my own friend's book...)
Killers Of The Flower Moon: The Osage Murders And The Birth Of The FBI | David Grann
Scorpion Chronicles: A Comprehensive Exploration Of Arachnid Predators And The Realm Of Stingers. | M.sc. Ava Arachno
Scorpion Keeper: A Guide On Keeping: Emperor Scorpions, Flat Rock Scorpions, Desert Hairy Scorpions, Asian Forest Scorpions | Jeff Jech
Spark Joy | Marie Kondo Joy at Work | Marie Kondo & Scott Sonenshein
Starter Villain | John Scalzi
I put most of my reading bullshit over on @jasper-book-stash, but I usually reblog it to this blog.

Nobody sent any asks for the book asks, but I don't get enough opportunities to Talk Books, so I just filled it out. :}
Questions found here!
How many books did you read this year? Not nearly as many as I normally would, but more than the average person, I think! I probably read 8 books this year? Just that I can remember, anyways.
Did you reread anything? What? Yes! I reread Harrow the Ninth because this specific copy was a birthday present a friend had specially annotated just for me (and censored), and I reread Wicked (The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West) before the movie came out. I always say I'm not sure if comics count, but I also reread pieces of the three Raven miniseries that have come out since 2008.
What were your top five books of the year? I hope this doesn't have to exclusively apply to new books I'd never read before...! Also, what's the metric? I'm going to go by how much I enjoyed them.
5.) Roxy, by Neal Shusterman. He's my favorite author and though I don't consider this one of his stronger casts, there are still scenes in that book that will stay with me for life. Unfortunately one of them was because of a phobia trigger, but the scene with (Isaac I think was the name?) and his best friend visiting and weaponizing his favorite foods and best memories touched me very deeply. And the revelation about Roxy's "love" at the end... Dear gods, polar opposite end of the emotional spectrum but that hit HARD. It's a beautiful metaphor and extreme plot twist.)
4.) The copy of Harrow the Ninth my friend annotated! I can't say there's terribly overmuch about that story that brings me joy, but the fact that a friend? Made a special copy for me? And made sure it would be a much less, ahem, harrowing experience than usual? Oh my stars and suns, guys. It's now one of my very favorite books I own, but not as much because it's Harrow the Ninth as because my friend did so much for me to be able to read it.
3.) Fragments of Magic: Shards of Allunatia by C. L. Vuncannon! Super indie story, it's a fantasy adventure story written by a fellow witchy friend! I had so much fun once the plot really got going, the system of magic and pantheon are really well thought-out, and I've seen other characters in the art that I can't wait to meet in the next installments! (If you see this, Storm, I'm working on filing my favorite parts into the pretty words a review of that story deserves! ^^ )
2.) Gleanings, an anthology of little "side stories" that takes place in Neal Shusterman's Arc of a Scythe world! Scythe Curie is, as ever, an absolute fucking ICON. And there was a huge selection of tones and characters! I loved it to death. Every single story was unique and fun and cool and worldbuilding and GREAT. The one about the dog was fucking INCREDIBLE.
1.) Wicked. It's an old, OLD favorite of mine. This book plays my emotions like a harp. I experienced it very differently when I first read it ~15 years ago, but I found I still Remember why I relate to Elphaba so damn much. And though when I first read it I felt a sort of helpless outrage, I think I found that same outrage more empowering now than I did as a teenager. I sympathized more with her choices, but I also felt grateful for the differences in our circumstances. Much like with Raven, I'm no longer such a close carbon copy of this character I've loved for so long, but I remember Having Been that way and it still aches to my depths. I do have more perspective now than I did as a kid, too, and I saw a wider lens of the Real World Problems she was standing up against, the commentary on religion, and of course the central theme of "What Causes Wickedness?" I love that it posits like 47 different possibilities!
Did you discover any new authors that you love this year? C. L. Vuncannon, apparently. :}
What genre did you read the most of? My usual fantasy fiction, probably?
Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to? So many books that are still packed in the basement. Mostly rereading my favorite Neal Shusterman books. And a few comics; I know I'm waaaay behind on the DC INK Teen Titans stories. (I've... only read the Raven one. I'm still trying to get an answer on if I can skip the Beast Boy Loves Raven one or not, because that's huge NoTP territory for me. The previews I've seen contain the kind of relationship that's exactly why they're a NOTP for me (re: no chemistry, shallow admiration, etc). I just will NOT be enjoying that.)
What was your average Goodreads rating? Does it seem accurate? (I don't use Goodreads; sorry!)
Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones? The only reading goal I set is to enjoy what I'm reading, and I'd say I've met that goal. :}
Did you get into any new genres? Does reading rp-blog-based plots count? (No, probably not, it does say these are BOOK asks, after all...) Then no. What can I say, I know what I like.
What was your favorite new release of the year? I don't think I read any books that were released this year...
What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read? Fragments of Magic was released I think nearly two years ago, and I know that's not "awhile", but I wanted to read it for the entire time and it FELT like ETERNITY!
Any books that disappointed you? I read "Roxy" by Neal Shusterman, and while I'm sure they were trying to make the story Realistic by showing how gradual the Problems^tm it's commentating on happen (drug addiction), it took me foooreeever to read through the first half of the book. I don't enjoy "slice of life" much at all, and this is perhaps Shusterman's most grounded-in-reality book so far. (...well, except maybe for Challenger Deep.)
What were your least favorite books of the year? Iiiii genuinely don't have any I think I can list! I enjoyed all of what I read this year.
What books do you want to finish before the year is over? (None in particular.)
Did you read any books that were nominated for or won awards this year (Booker, Women’s Prize, National Book Award, Pulitzer, Hugo, etc.)? What did you think of them? I don't know off the top of my head, but I'm sure Wicked was nominated for some awards, and Neal Shusterman has been nominated for quite a few for different books.
What is the most over-hyped book you read this year? You say that like I read books for the hype. (I don't think any book I read this year was particularly hyped, unless of course Fragments of Magic being promoted by its writer counts, and that one certainly lived up to it!)
Did any books surprise you with how good they were? I was frankly afraid I'd think Wicked was less good than I remembered it being. I appreciated it as deeply for different reasons now, but it's even better than I remember it being!
How many books did you buy? Probably somewhere around 4? (Half my reading was re-reading or from the library.)
Did you use your library? ! Oh! See above. (I actually have to return Nimona this week, I think it won't let me renew it this time. ;;; )
What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations? (I don't think I read anything that was released this year?)
Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama? Nah, kinda spectated a "reading club" held by the Critical Thinking Witch Collective (not an assigned reading club, just people sharing what they're reading), but I wouldn't say I "participated". I mostly steer clear of any and all fandom drama nowadays.
What’s the longest book you read? Wicked is like 350 pages I think?
What’s the fastest time it took you to read a book? I'm pretty sure I read Wicked in three nights flat. Possibly only two because I stalled a LOT on starting it because I remember how emotional it made me..
Did you DNF anything? Why? I was tempted to put down Roxy in the first few chapters, it just had a really slow start and it was all so mundane... but I'm glad I held out. So ultimately, no.
What reading goals do you have for next year? Definitely read more in both fiction and non-fiction, find my Everlost and the rest of my Scythe books, maybe-possibly actually read the DC INK TT stories (to be determined), I did get High Road Leadership by John Maxwell but I haven't cracked that one open yet. Also, if comics count as "books", maybe FINALLY start reading the Injustice comics but I'm torn between REALLY liking the panels I've seen so far, and HATING a lot of things the game did. I also really need to read more Zatanna comics. Probably reread the Vertigo stuff I really liked. (Sandman, Death, Hellblazer, Madame Xanadu-- you know, if I can figure out where those are!)

Indie authors let me talk to ya!
If you're an indie author, please, promote your book here! This post is both a boost, and an opportunity for me to gather a list of indie books from my writeblr friends that I want to get my best friend for their birthday! If you write queer (ESPECIALLY sapphic) books, that is an added plus!

Any headcanon you can share with us about fragment? like some lore of the world your characters?
Allunatia was the name of the World Tree that grew when The Emerald God planted the first Seed of Beginnings. It was destroyed when Chaos injected itself into the tree and The Jeweled Court cut the rest of the tree off and banished it to the Empty Realms. They knew they needed a Champion to defeat Chaos and Tam stepped in saying he would do it. The Jeweled Court granted him Extended Life and began training him in the art of War and Battle with Princess Rose Quartz.  After a few centuries of training they both went into the Empty Realms to take on Chaos. As they do battle for many years Chaos shows no signs of slowing down and Tam is starting to get tired. Princess Rose Quartz then makes the decision to trap Tam briefly so he cannot stop her and she goes and makes a deal with Chaos to become its Vessel. Chaos, excited by the prospect of having an Immortal War Goddess as its vessel, immediately agrees and she takes it into her body. After wrestling her consciousness away from its grasp she uses her powers to turn herself into a Crystalline Heart, thus effectively trapping Chaos in one spot for Tam to destroy. As she’s fading she tells Tam that he was supposed to be the one who took in Chaos, but that other members of the Jeweled Court would have killed him to permanently end Chaos. So she chose to rewrite his Fate, saving him. Tam heartbroken that she’s done this cannot bring himself to kill both her and Chaos so he takes the crystal heart into himself. Due to the influence of Chaos leaking through a small crack in Princess Rose Quartz’s containment Tam suffered many mental break downs as he attempted to regain control over Chaos. Several Hundred years go by before he finally starts to even out and regain control of himself. Towards the end of this he remembers that he watched Princess Amethyst, Goddess of Time, appear and take away the Jeweled Dagger. Tam resents her for this as she turned her back on him when he called out for her help. More time passed before Seraphina entered the Empty Realms, she claimed to the Shard of Rose Quartz from the future and that she was coming to help him and to wait for her before vanishing through a time portal again.
Time went on and Tam began to think it was just a fever dream Chaos had made to trick him, at the same time he trusted her words. Tam finally had the strength to subdue Chaos and take back over his own consciousness and he slowly made his way back to the Court of the jeweled Gods. The Court were surprised to see him as they had planned for Princess Rose Quartz to finish him off. They asked what happened and Tam told them the whole story. Several of the Court Members called for his destruction right then when The Obsidian Emperor stepped in and stopped it. He offered to place Tam under his watch so he could monitor Chaos’ hold on him. Together the two left, finding an Island with a towering mountain to live on.  The Obsidian Emperor listens to Tam’s story again and makes him repeat the part of Seraphina saying she’s a Shard. They discuss what this could mean and infer that the reason Tam’s dealing with Chaos is because princess Rose Quartz could not form a completely sealed container, and thus Chaos is slowly leaking out through the missing shard’s spot. The Obsidian Emperor goes off to think for a while instructing Tam to find something to do on the island. When The Obsidian Emperor comes back Tam has sculpted a tree out of the mountain stone. The Obsidian Emperor then says he has a rough idea of how to do the same process that Princess Rose Quartz did and will use that to help Tam further seal away Chaos and keep it out of his consciousness. So they perform the Rite of the Shard, imbuing Tam with The Obsidian Emperor’s powers over the element of Darkness.
After the Rite is performed they both begin working on carving out the mountain and forming it into a house they could live in. This takes several more hundred years before it is finally completed. Tam sometimes has bad days in the mean time where Chaos attempts to exert its control again and so with the help of his new powers from the Obsidian Emperor, Tam travels back and forth to the Empty Realms back to the Upper half of the World Tree. He takes it upon himself to transform the trunk of the tree into a Mural explaining his story. At the very end of the mural is a rough life sized depiction of Seraphina that Tam often sits next to this part of the tree when he’s having bad days.

Alrighty~ things have finally slowed down enough that I can make a post. Finally got my cover font back and THAT I am comfortable sharing for now ;) first slide is the professional version second slide is my attempt at making it Protip: there is nothing wrong with sending out for people who are better at the thing than you are. As much as I'd love to do everything myself there are just some hats I cannot wear. . Third slide is the sneak peek at the cover art~ . I'm struggling with figuring out what step to take next in this publishing path. I know there's really no wrong answers but I still want to try and do it right. I'll be putting out feelers soon for a street team for the eventual cover reveal but the end of January is a bit hectic for my life so I might just let it stew until February. More news when I get around to it later when my life calms down again :9
