January 9, 1997 - October 29, 2022

Robinson was a graduate of the historically black college Winston-Salem State University. She ran several boutique beauty and children's hair-braiding businesses, under her "Exquisite Kids" and "Exquisite Boutique" brands, in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.

She was killed October 29th, 2022 at the age of 25 when she embarked on a trip to Mexico with a "friend" and 5 other assailants (3 men and 3 women who accompanied Shanquella).

While on this trip she was violently attacked by at least one of the female entourage (with other videos displaying another separate attack from another female from the same group).

Robinson dies of Severe Spinal Cord Injury and Atlas Luxation 15 minutes after the attack, but the entourage doesn't call for medical help until hours later.

Based on this police report and the investigations of the Mexican authorities, the US State Department initially released a statement reporting that "Mexican authorities said there was no clear evidence Robinson was murdered".

On November 16, the U.S. Department of State responded they were aware of the incident, releasing following statement:

"We are aware of these reports. Protecting the welfare of U.S. citizens overseas is among our top priorities. Out of respect for the privacy of those involved, we have no further comment at this time," the department stated.

The word, Femicide, becomes more popular as the nation would learn that countries like Mexico have harsh punishments for brutal and violent acts against women. However, to this day, not a single arrest has been made.

October 29, 2023 (1 year after Shanquella's death) the Robinson family files a lawsuit and still demands justice and people across the country have demanded that those responsible be held accountable.

One tweet by North Carolina blogger Mina Lo with the words, “Rest in Power Shanquella Robinson” has garnered more than 50,000 likes and nearly 17,000 retweets. National news organizations, including CNN and the New York Times, have since picked up Robinson’s story, highlighting the power and potential of Black media platforms. From the killing of Lauren Smith-Fields last year to Robinson last month, Black people online have been a driving force behind elevating stories about missing and murdered Black women and girls in the absence of mainstream media.

Black women and girls face high rates of intimate partner violence, sexual assault and homicide. However, their cases are rarely treated with urgency. Robinson’s case stands out for the level of attention it received due to not only her family’s advocacy, but also the Black-owned blogs and social media accounts that recirculated the video and emerging details, pushing it into the view of a wider audience.

“We’ve relied on the connections that we have in Black communities to spread the word of issues that are of importance to us for centuries,” said Dr. Meredith Clark, an associate professor of journalism and communication studies at Northeastern University who researches Black Twitter and Black resistance online. “It reaffirms something that we say a lot – ‘We all we got’ – and this, to me, is an example of what that looks like in a news media context.”

The victim’s family was concerned about the primary cause of death

In an interview, Shanquella Robinson’s sister Quilla Long disclosed that the family had received phone calls from individuals in Mexico who claimed that Robinson was physically assaulted during a fight. The family continued to accept the alcohol poisoning allegations, nonetheless. Long also stated that Cooke seemed nervous when he met the family. The victim’s mother said “Now that stuff did happen, I can go back and say “that’s why he was pacing,” I mean, you would have thought he was coming off something like he was high. He was nervous, he was sweating, and grabbing his beard… It had to be eating him up then.” Bernard, the victim’s father, said that he thinks Cooke is aware of Robinson’s death. “They left her there,” man, an emotional Bernard, said. “They left my daughter over there. I can’t believe it.”Bernard stated repeatedly:     “He knows what happened. He knows what happened” After Robinson passed away, the victim’s pals went back to their homes, but Robinson’s body was still in Mexico. The victim’s body was delivered to his or her house two weeks and $6,000 later. The Charlotte office of the FBI has been asked to help investigate the victim’s death mystery.
