This Video is made up of screenshots (and quote) of Ian Bohen in the music video "Give Me Your Hand" by Shannon K. The song is "What is Love?" by Black Eyed Peas because I couldn't find the original song but I feel this song fits these photos well. "Wheres the Love?" is about the lack of love and unity in the world. The original video is about overcoming bullying and finding strength within yourself.

I watched Buffmaisters ObsCure movies. Yep. A 2004-5 PS2 game!
And I'm kind of reminded of Until Dawn, and not just because Josh and Ashley are characters here.
I'll talk more about that a little later, first I want to write a short shot about it. Or two.Though the everyone lived ending offered a msore satisfying conclusion, the ending of at least one party member death had a detail that stood out to me.
It shows one or more dug gravein front of a memorial for students who died in this school, implied to be for the party members who died on this journey. Then it pans down into one of them, and shows spores rising from the coffin.
Its not a super exciting ending. Except in the next game, character Shannon is capable of controling the spores in her body. She claims its from her willpower, but none of the remaining characters are capable of doing what she did.
So alternative theory, Shannon did die. However, it didn't stick. The spores brought her back, and she got lucky in how her dossage interacted with her biology.
So here goes. Spoiler alert for the second game, if you care to avoid.
---
A truth that goes unspoken between all of them, is that Shannon isn't like the rest of them. She died that night. While the rest of them got their “cure” that night, her body lay in there cold and still.
They had mourned her. They had buried her. They had put her name on the memorial. And three days later, she had shown back up at school like some sort of blue haired goth Jesus, smiling and acting like she hadn't been a corpse the last time they saw her.
Why are you all staring at me?” She had asked. “Is it the blue hair?”
Behind her, Kenny slashes a line across his throat while staring them dead in the eye.
“You look nice with blue hair” Josh offers nervously.
Later, Kenny gathers them in a group.
“We can't tell her!” He demands.
“We have to!” Ashley insists.
“We don't have to do anything! She's back, and we already failed her once. We left her there, like all the other students we left there! I promised him I wouldn't leave him behind. I promised him, and yet-” Kenny trails off crying.
He's been crying a lot since Shannon died. They all have. Between the death of Shannon and the limitations of the “cure” they have all been feeling emotional.
Who was he?” Stan asks.
“Dan. We tried to escape. I have nightmares about it, some nights. Other nights, I dream about hers.”
“What should we tell your parents?” Ashley asks.
“We can tell them Jack Shit! They don't actually care!!”
“We can tell them Jack Shit! They don't actually care!!”
The rest of them wince. They know the Mathews have problems with their parents, but it's never been put into words so bluntly.
“ I have her back! We have her back. I'm not going to fail her again!”
In the end, none of them say anything. It's easy to almost forget. It's another secret buried between them, like Ashleys body wasn't, like the drugs they take, and the nightmares they share. It's part of what breaks up Ashley and Kenny, even as she keeps her walkie-talkie charged when not on her person.
It's not something they can forget, no matter how much they would like to.
Shannon and Kenny go to collage. Stan goes to jail. Josh goes off chasing leads in this story.
Ashley gets into a fight with Shannon about the drugs. Shannon believes that willpower is enough to keep her herself. Ashley rants to Stan about it later in tears.
“She says she's accepted it as part of her biology, but I can't do that! I'm alive! I want to be alive! She's dead, and she doesn't understand it's not the same for the rest of us!”
Kenny's in the worst position. Stan watches his old best friend spiral. Shannon probably doesn't help, in retrospect, with her talks of willpower. She doesn't get it.
They don't know what Friedman did to him during the time he was captured, but Kenny gets hit with the worst of the effects even with their drugs. They never found records of what happened to Kenny.
Stan looks at the transformed Kenny, and wonders if that will be him one day. Wonders if it will be all of them one day.
He looks at the woman beside him. At least if he stays with her, he can be assured of someone who can and will put a bullet into him, should it come to that.
After all, she could kill her brother.
He should be easy in comparison.
---
Alright, with that down, lets talk about similarities to UD. Not only do both games take place at night, they take place against an enemy with a weakness to light. Albight, Until Dawns monsters were never weak to flashlights the way ObsCures Mortifilia are, but thats largly due to diffrences in genre, Survival horror is a part resource management, and so involves deciding when to use what, where stalking horror tends to be more combat avoident. So Until Dawns guns are not used to meaningfully kill any monsters, although it can hold them off.
Both games end at dawn. I will say the ObsCure cast should have taken a leaf from the book of the Until Dawn characters and burned down the school. That might have prevented the second game.
Third, one character in both cast's transforms into a monster. You can not save him from it.
Four, both Josh's are really into film. ObsCures Josh is much more into doccumentry, in contrast to UD Josh's horror fan angle, but I thought the similarity was neat.
In contrast, the Ashleys are very diffrent, with ObsCure Ashley being the best at combat in the game.
I liked that in the first game, you could play any character and they all had a same pool of general skills, and something one of them can do a bit better that the others can't.
Josh as the observer noticed items of significance.
Ashley, was the best at combat, the only one capable of double attacking.
Stan as the delinquent was better at lockpicking, and finding the pickable locks. Though theres plently of places where you can just be practical and break the window.
Shannon as the smart one, will give you tips for the puzzles. She also is better at healing both herself and other characters, and her bio says she has first aid knowledge. She's probably not your prefered character to bring on the field, but hey, play how you like.
Kenny, is Shannons brother, Ashleys boyfriend, and Stans bestie. He kicks off the game playing basketball, and stays too long, leading to a series of events that result in him being captured. His fitness is best in the game, leading to him being good at sprinting.
Things change in the second game, so now Stan is the only character who can lockpick, and so on. Boys are now for pusing objects and girls have the smarts. Meh.
---
Soo, how well would they survive eachothers games?
Overall ,I think it would go pretty well.
Josh is willing to put his friends through mental tramua in the name of vengance, but I don't really think he has to be an antagonist in this one, or his family. I don't really feel a need to change anything about the Leafmore School background, so nothing contrived has to happen to Josh for this plotswap.
Just an aftergame drinking that has everyone get stupid drunk, the prank goes down, and Hannah investegates a strange noise after she runs away from Mike crying. When Beth finds her, they both get gassed and captured by Herbert Friedman.
Meanwhile, the next day Josh shows up and picks a fight with Mike, cause his sisters didn't come home last night, what did you do to them you monsters. Everyone talks and realises the twins may have disapered inside the school. Half the party guilts the other half into staying to look for them.
I'm going to swap in the Stranger (Jack Fiddler) for the Biology teacher Danny Walden. In this plotswap Jack is a teacher, who is dedicated to finding what happened to the missing students, and is very good at fighting the creatures that roam the halls in the dark.
(Given Jacks canon badassary, I'm just going to assume the investigation stage as an outsider took longer. )
I'd conisder swapping him with the janitor, but the Janitor is aware of the school bullshit, and may possibly be infected himself. That or paid a lot of money not only as hush money, but to kill and clean up the monsters that get out from beneeth the school. Mr. Garrison, we didn't know you enough.
I'd leave the rest of the game mostly the same, exploration- with the UD casts drama exploding all over the place as they explore.
Not decided on what I would give who, as theres a lot more cast members. Hmmm. Maybe?
Sam has better climbing, Chris is Observation of items, Ashely is the only one who can read healing from first aid, Emily is tips for Puzzle (in the most condencending way possible of course), Matt is better at moving heavy objects and breaking things, Mike is lockpicking, Jessica has a luck based chance of getting double items when gathering resources, and for now I'll give the Washington siblings gun skills from Mom taking them on her hobby, hunting.
Maybe I'll vary it by gun type or something, Idk. I'm not decided that everyone lives, but the buddy system is in play.
For the ObsCure cast on Rude Blackwood Mountain, Lets have Kenny get lost on a hiking trip, and everyone going back to finding him, only to have the worst night of their lives. In contrast to the UD cast, everyone seems to like eachother fairly well, so less drama, and more hiding once Denny Walden (playing the part of the stranger) tells them how.
I guess I didnt need to swap Denny and Jack, I just felt like It.
Or maybe I should add more drama to that one, and have one of them get posessed and the rest are trying to cure them.
I don't know. I'm probably not going to write the whole thing out. Just plan it. That's usually the fun part. Might write some more shorts though.
---
And one night, Shannon woke up.
She panics.
She doesn't remember what comes next, too lost in the mania of panic, but when she does pay attention again, she is in the yard.
Her clothes are bloodied, her fingers have splinters, and she is covered in dirt.
So she goes to find a change of clothes.
Maybe once, stealing would have bothered her, but she just spent a night picking locks, breaking windows, and killing things. Stealing is the least of her worries now.
She finds someones clothes in a locker, and a pair of shoes and a box of dye in another, and a towel in a third.
She takes her shower and looks at the dye box in consideration.
Why not, she decides. She doesn't really feel like a blond anymore.
She looks over the instructions and opens the box.
