In Chapter 19 of Choices: Winter, "Regrets and Reassurances," we start off with a smidgen of Sterling jealousy. When Callie realizes what's going on, she goes out of her way to offer him all the reassurances she can with both words and actions. Lastly, Callie realizes that maybe Mia and Emily had a point.

Oh, and there's also a nice helping of gossip along the way.

As he neared the bus stop, Sterling broke into a smile. Callie stood near the fence line with her back to him. Apparently, the bus ran a bit faster than he’d realized. Beside her sat her cooler along with her pack and fishing rod. Spotting who stood talking with her, however, he slowed. June faced her in that gorgeous ridiculous-looking pink sweater, a sweet and charming smile on his face as they talked. Sterling couldn’t hear what they said at this distance, but he certainly heard Callie’s bright, beautiful laughter. He watched June’s face soften, a longing in his gaze that Sterling recognized even at this distance. He used to look at  St  Kai that way. Again, the memory of various tender moments he’d witnessed between June and his partner stoked the jealous beast within. As he drew near enough to make out their words, he heard June say, “You have a snowflake in your hair, honey,” before reaching up and running his fingers through the half-loose curls that hung below her beanie, making them bounce and shimmer. “There, I got it for you.” Oh No He Fucking Didn’t.

I started playing (modded) Stardew Valley recently, and it's been really fun! I drew some very rough art of my character and their various escapades

So far I'm absolutely loving Mateo from the East Scarpe mod, they're my lad. I also love Sen from that mod set!!

My character's name is Mona (Yeah it was weird when I found out about the grave...) and if the outfit choices aren't enough to tell you, they're a witch. Thus why I'm playing modded. I wanted them to be able to do magic >:)))) Also like. Gender neutral pronouns and platonic relationships.

Mona showed up in town and was immediately like "I know who I want to be friends with first: the weird old men and the cryptids".

Anyway, in Chapter 17 of Choices: Winter, "The Solanen and Her Junimos," we get a little bit shorter chapter (under 5k for once) focusing on how Callie's relationship with the Junimos continues to rapidly deepen and expand. Callie investigates Jas's "Shadow Prince," Sterling experiences a bit of the Junimos' magic, and an unexpected trio observes everything.

Reaching out with her hand, she brushed it along a scroll that he hadn’t noticed before. It immediately unrolled, startling him. Well, that certainly wasn’t natural. “Ah, here we go,” she said softly to herself. Sterling felt royally confused. “This is the final offering needed to complete this scroll. I… I’m unsure what exactly you’ll see. For me, when I’ve done this before, the world fades to white. I commune with the Junimos, strengthening our bond, and when I finally can see again, the room is fixed.” Her dark eyes peered at him worriedly. “If you’d rather stay in one of the other rooms during this, I wouldn’t blame you.” And miss out on seeing the Junimos? Experiencing magic? Fuck that. “If you don’t mind my being here, then I’d rather stay,” he told her.

I usually skip this episode on my rewatches because the sheer density of the chaos makes it too distracting to have on in the background, but I'm running out of Ghoul Boys content to keep me company through The Horrors of Cleaning, so rock n' roll buckaroo!

On a pedantic historical note, I should mention that there were quite a few more Asian Americans involved in the Civil War than Ryan assumes, both Union and Confederate. And not just Chinese, but Japanese, Indonesian, Filipino, and Thai immigrants. As ever, the anglicization of a lot of men's names obscures their nationalities unless it's explicitly mentioned in the same documents. Good luck figuring out that surnames like "Pierce", "Dardelle", or "Marshall" belong to Chinese dudes if no one bothers to mention it...

To boot, 'Asian' as a race didn't really exist back then, and a lot of East Asians, South-East Asians, and Pacific Islanders were awkwardly shoved into the boxes of "black", "white", or "mulatto" depending on how they were perceived in a given part of the U.S. If you're curious about how that played out, check out the paper "'Mulatto, Indian, Or What': The Racialization Of Chinese Soldiers And The American Civil War" by Angela He.

In other words, an Asian dude rolling up to a bunch of Confederates going "konichiwa motherfuckers, you murdered my family, now you're gonna die" is not as historically far-fetched as it seems. Even better, there's documentation of one probable samurai joining the 1st New York Cavalry so feel free to add Ryan on a horse with a sword to that scenario.
