I do enjoy the fact that each faction gives Rook a couple of unconventional familial figures.
Antivan Crow Rook gets the perpetually together-and-split-up Teia and Viago, whose love languages are bickering and poisons. Rook is Viago's favourite and he would never admit it to them, even if Teia is all too happy to expose his affection with her playful barbs.
Mourn Watch Rook gets Myrna and Vorgoth, the former of whom is akin to a college professor who found a baby in their science lab and the latter of whom is most definitely one of those mysterious executors from across the sea but it's fine because they're just Vorgoth and nobody questions it.
Shadow Dragon Rook gets T4T icons Tarquin and Ashur, a Templar who absolutely despises his job and the literal Black Divine, whose anti-slavery group is so full of queer people it may as well be a gay club. Same bickering energy as Teia and Viago, minus the poisoning and cyclical divorcing.
Grey Warden Rook gets Antoine and Evka, the most married wardens to ever exist. Antoine is the absolute sweetest man alive, and the only Orlesian allowed ever. Evka is incredibly competent and has everything under control. Their dates end with explosions. Everything is perfect.
Veil Jumper Rook gets Irelin and Strife. Strife is battling Viago for the grumpiest and meanest dad award. Irelin is clearly the golden child and favourite sibling and he makes that clear to Rook.
Lords of Fortune Rook gets Isabela and Rowan, a pirate turned allegedly somewhat ethical treasure hunter and Rivaini seer who regularly convenes with spirits. Neither of them are parents to Rook, they hold the most insane much older cousin energy though.

Veilguard Tumblr Stats: The Results
In December I ran a Google Form looking to compare the official Bioware player statistics to those of the tumblr fandom. I received 3031 unique responses, and am now making the results available to you! This was a solo endeavor and I'm so grateful to every single one of you for your participation! All I ask in return is that we keep it positive: this was a fun project, let's keep it that way!
The results are in graphic form under the cut (alt text is available for every graphic). I have also captioned them with the official Bioware stats for comparison purposes where applicable. You can view the raw data in the form of a Google Sheet here. Please note that these results contain major endgame spoilers.
Thank you again, please reblog for reach!

The factions of Northern Thedas
The Veil Jumpers: You know what's great? Not leaving all this old crap lying around waiting to explode. The Antivan Crows: This invasion is wonderful for us because now we can convince people we're somehow the scrappy underdogs. The Grey Wardens: We cannot catch a fucking break. The Shadow Dragons: We may be bankrolled by aristocrats, but we're still more credible scrappy underdogs than the Crows. The Mourn Watch: The secret to a stable government is state-subsidized goths. The Lords of Fortune: You know what's great? Not living through Act 2 of Dragon Age 2 again.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend reading BioWare's free Dragon Age short stories released ahead of The Veilguard between 2020-2022. Each story focuses on a faction that will be featured in the game (e.g., Antivan Crows, Grey Wardens, Mortalitasi, Shadow Dragons, Veil Jumpers - unfortunately, there isn't a short story about the Lords of Fortune) and the characters in these stories may even turn up as faction agents in The Veilguard 👀

rook & my veilguard
— (morana, gilbert, hugo, alba, leandro)
.
in accordance with hava dragon age tradition, i've made a supporting cast for veilguard, all in one worldstate.
hugo (centre) is my canon rook. accompanying him from each faction are these characters here, who will have supporting roles to play. alba is a carry over from da2 - she is fenris' adopted daughter, and a somniari. in my notes pre-veilguard, she was set to play a big part in hawke's rescue from the fade.
i don't have a veil jumper to include yet, but i'm sure one will materialize down the line!
more on this group to come 🧡

The problem with having played all Dragon Age games and having read the graphic novels is that I'm torn between every faction. Especially between the Grey Wardens, Antivan Crows, and Shadow Dragons.
Wardens have spent the 20+ years since Origins becoming more secretive and cut off, pursuing their own studies and goals separate from greater political machinations. They've made deals with ancient darkspawn, they know where the Old Gods prisons are, and rediscovered Griffons— their hope and symbol, thought to be extinct. Your Warden companion is a Dalish Elf (rare for Dalish to become Wardens so I wonder what that story is) with a baby Griffon, a lot of room there to be rather conspiratorial co-parents.
I've loved the Crows since Zevran. While most nations have an army as their primary strong-arm, Antiva has an extremely powerful network of assassins. The Crows were dealt a deadly blow recently and the Qunari are close to taking over Antiva. If they succeed then they'll have a very strong hold on the continent. A pretty crucial time to be a Crow, especially as your Crow companion is the grandson of its leader. An excelling career assassin set up to be its next leader but who may not have the heart of a killer at all.
The Shadow Dragons is an organisation in Tevinter whose main goal is freeing slaves and stamping out oppression. The oldest human settlement in Thedas, Tevinter is the ultimate dark horse of Dragon Age lore. Your Dragon companion is a PI who swaggered out of a noir novel and onto the streets of Minrathus. Everything about this is cool. What's more, Dorian accepted his seat on the Magisterium to dismantle Tevinter's oppressive systems and destroy the Venatori, something he doesn't appear to have achieved. Is he now the Grand Viper (his symbol was a snake)? Has he fled? Is he dead? So many questions.

I really love how the Shadow Dragons and Wardens seem to mesh in The Veilguard. The fact that you just see them working together under the city and individual people bonding.
It was unintentional, but it plays really well into Irini's own storyline. Focusing less on the wardens and more on becoming a shadow dragon herself to fight for change in Tevinter.
So on that note have some songs about her turning away from the shadows where she stands vigilant, and towards bringing the light in her home.

Lorelei is from the same alienage that Tabris is, and might even have known them before they became the Warden. I'm only a little emotional.

Master Post of Veilguard Faction Cocktails!
The Lords of Fortune: A bold, golden cocktail with tropical flavors and the spice of cinnamon. For gold and glory.
The Mourn Watch: A deathly (and deadly boozy) cocktail with the floral whisper of Shroud’s Kiss blossoms and ritual funeral herbs.
The Antivan Crows: A blend of Italian ingredients for a darkly bittersweet, deeply complex cocktail that would be right at home at the Cantori Diamond.
The Grey Wardens: A boozy take on The Joining. Peppery and bittersweet, with a whisper of tartness hiding underneath.
The Veil Jumpers: An ethereal concoction with wisps of smoke reminiscent of wild magic, and the faint floral echo of lavender.
The Shadow Dragons: Complex, with a uniquely elusive, mysterious flavor you can’t quite pin down and a deep red hue.
