one pet peeve I have about SOME service dog handlers is that they will blatantly ignore their dogs alerts.

not just like once, multiple times.

you have that dog for a reason, if they are telling you something is wrong listen to them. like what's the point of having a service dog if you're just going to ignore their alerts?

My service dog died in July and I’m still so broken. I feel like I will never be happy again. He was not only my best friend but I considered him to be my son. He was my whole world and I’m so angry that life took him away from me. He never did a single thing wrong. He didn’t deserve this.

hello! ive been a tumblr user for years now, but i decided to step away from art and have a breath of fresh air in a personal blog!

i plan on using this blog mainly for service dog things, maybe sharing some of my spiritual practice (im a hellenic pagan witch), and occasional art if i remember. and birds. i love birds. birds are my favorite things ever.

i am a disabled about to be 17 year old in california. i have autism and adhd, along with other disorders and illnesses im not gonna mention right now. i suffer from arthritic knees and hips and other medical conditions.

unfortunately, being dual-enrolled in high school and college, with parents that don’t really take me that seriously, i cannot get my service dog right now. but i am going to be on my own in exactly one year and one month, so to get the ball (kind of) rolling, im going to be practicing training on our family dog! she’s a really mixed bully (??) mutt that was found on the side of the street. since i an going to be doing a good chunk of my actual sd’s training on my own, i think it would be a good idea to practice training the basics with my lazy mutt that just sleeps all day.

i am going to be sharing her progress on this blog! along with a small journal im going to be putting together logging her progress.

i honestly don’t know how this is going to turn out, but i feel like it will help. her and i have an extremely strong bond, and maybe working with her will reinforce some of her trained behaviors she already knows! right now she just knows sit, lay down, tuck in mimis (go to her kennel for bedtime), stay, and wait. she is not that good on a leash, and she’s only ever been walked with flat-collar leashes. i know prongs are very good leash training tools, so im going to do some research on those a bit more.

i’d love to hear some advice from other service dog handlers and trainers!! i hope that by me sharing our journey on here, we will be able to feel some support and encouragement.

Hello! I’ve been inactive for a while due to some issues and complications in my life! I’m back though, and asking for a huge favor:

I have C-PTSD from sexual assault, an abusive family, and more, as well as treatment resistant depression, anxiety, an ED, autism, and ADHD (yeah, it’s a lot). After many long conversations with my therapist and other mental health professionals, they decided that getting a service dog could be incredibly helpful for me. Unfortunately, service dogs are incredibly expensive and I’m a student who can’t fully afford that. So I made a gofundme! If you have anything to spare, it would be super helpful. Thank you :)

One more big life update post— we got engaged last Friday! It’s been a long time coming and I’m so insanely happy to finally be engaged to the love of my life. Beatle seems pretty happy, too.

When I reached for a hand, you gave me your paw ….I miss having a service dog. I truly need a new one, & I wish people would understand that. Service Dogs are medical equipment. & I need my medical equipment back. Let alone the fact that she was Lilo…She definitely went to heaven & is waiting for us all and we will wait together as a family until everyone is home together again. We love you Lilo. Thank you for Ohana.

I Haven't Been Here in 5 Years...

Uh, I guess I'm getting back into this. I actually really miss blogging (I ran a square space blog instead of tumblr for a while). 

I've been diagnosed, so I know what I'm sick with. 

My First Service dog retired in 2018, and passed away this year. 

I trained a Miniature horse as a Service Animal, and she was my working partner for over 2 years, until I got sicker. 

I have what is likely to be my Final Service Dog in Training. 

I've got about 5 years left to live, before my illness takes me, but I might experience complications sooner.

I'm a suicide attempt survivor. I got a service dog who changed my life. I overcame depression, recovered from anorexia and recovered from agoraphobia. I started feeling happiness again and I genuinely loved my life. (Which I didn't think was even possible...)

Just for my niece to get brain cancer and for my service dog to get Cushing's Disease. (Which is caused by a brain tumour 80-90% of the time, although it's almost always benign.) What is the chance? Not one family member with a brain tumour but two? Now he has to retire (at only 5yo) and I'm drowning in vet bills. Almost $8,000 since November. He's my independence and I'm loosing it. (I can't even leave my house by myself.) And on Monday we find out if my niece's cancer is back to being unstable. She's already had all treatments available, so this means there's nothing else they can do. She only just turned 12.

My entire world is fulling apart.
