Soriku: Trapped in a dream
*most of my knowledge of kingdom hearts comes from reading manga, the novels, and watching cut scenes and some of the game play on YouTube. So I apologize if I get some lore wrong or character powers wrong. I never played the games*
Riku was running with their "daughter" in his arms. Funny how that word was an impossibility a year ago. Yen Sid said she wasn't really a "daughter", more of a possibility. Just like how Yozora too was like his "little sister" was a possibility. Something that could happen in the future for them, him and Sora. Sora. Everything was always because of Sora, the good and bad. Riku wouldn't have it any other way.
"What's wrong Keyblade Master?! Don't you want to play!" Taunts the playful yet cruel voice of the Master of Masters.
At the sound, Riku runs faster down the dark corridor. Serena unresponsive but safe in his arms. Her hair brown like Sora's, but long and straight. Like how his hair was when it grew long. She was a tiny thing, even for a child. She reminded him greatly of Sora at that age. Which added to the fierce need to protect her.
Dark shadows and piercing light chasing after him. Reaching grabbing claws, they almost have him. Barley they miss. He had to keep her safe and find Sora. He had to get all three of them out of here. Normally he would stand his ground and fight.
"You can't run forever Keyblade Master!"
However he would never risk Serena and Sora. Especially not with this strange new power in this strange new world. So he kept running, making quick turns here or there. Yet the darkness and light kept after them. Hungry for them. The next quick turn leads into an open room filled with thick purple mist. Riku can hear the Master of Master behind.
The mist is too thick. Riku can't figure out where else to go.
"Why keep fighting Riku? When I can give you what you always wanted!"
Riku turns angrily to face the danger, Braveheart appearing in one hand, holding all of Serena's weight protectively in the other. There's no where left to run, so he must stand his ground now. So he will face what comes. Even if it costs him. He's done it before. What's one more time?
Yet when he does turn angrily to face the danger, his eyes widen in surprise. Instead of an onslaught of darkness and light preparing to consume them, or even the Master of Masters mocking him. Instead of that, he's in another room. The quick change of setting causes him to freeze. Adrenaline still pumps in his veins. His sea green eyes anxiously dart around at where they are, and he realizes with shock this room was familiar. Not only was it familiar, but it was somewhere that's suppose to be safe.
"Riku?" Says a voice filled with love, comfort and worry.
Riku feels a cold nail like sharp shivers run up his spine at that voice. A voice he would recognize anywhere. A voice that was always with him and in his heart.
"Sora?" Riku replies back, confused at what ws going on, but a part him always felt safe in Sora's presence. Sora was in their bed in Yen Sids tower. In sleep clothes. Riku's clothes. He looks fine, tired and waking up from sleep. But over all fine.
'Not recovering from being frozen in ice' Thought Riku, confused. Still a part of him lowers his guard. It's Sora. No matter what he's safe with Sora.
Sora yawns, rubbing one fist into one eye to help wake himself up more. " What are you doing up? And carrying Serena?"
"I-I I was." Riku says confused and uncertain. Sora smiles at Riku to reassure him. He comes up and hugs him. Their time traveling future daughter in between them. Safe and protected. But still dead asleep to the world. Riku stares down at her in worry and fear. Sora cups Riku's face, making him look at him,"Hey its alright, shes just sleeping. Having a beautiful dream."
Sora gentle as can be, takes her from Rikus arms than lays her on their bed. Tucking her in with the soft blue comforter. Both him and Riku stare down at her peaceful sleeping face. Sora than envelopes him in his arms again. Tugging him close. Heart to heart. Being so close Riku can hear the soft melody of their heart song. Two hearts beating as one in tune. He leans his head on Sora's. Riku wants to get lost in the embrace.
"I don't understand what's happening," whispers Riku. He wants to feel safe. He's with Sora, so why wouldn't he feel safe? Yet he can't shake his instincts. His battle ready instincts that have always kept him alive.
"There's nothing to understand. Your with me Riku."
"Yes bu-ut." Riku stutters. Part of him wants to get lost in Sora's and just relax. But he can't. He is a Keyblade master. A fighter. And the fighter instincts in him won't be silenced. Questions fill his head rapidly. Like, "How did he get here?" And like, "How did you recover so quickly Sora?" But there's one question that's haunting him the most.
While still holding Sora (if this really is Sora he thinks darkly), so as not to alert him to any of his thoughts, Riku asks softly,
"Sora tell me something, and be honest. Who is more important? Me or Serena and our friends?"
Sora looks up, and answers without hesitation.
"You of course Riku. Who else would it be?"
At those words, Riku knew for sure. Sora smiles at Riku. He leans up to kiss him.
Riku does something he never thought he'd do in a million years. He stops Sora from kissing him. He puts a finger to his lips and stops him.
Riku smiles down at the confused and pouting Sora, "What's wrong Riku?"
Riku gently pushes Sora away from him, and goes to Serena. He picks her up in his arms. She still lays deep asleep. Turning back around he faces an adorably confused Sora.
We a laugh in his voice Riku says,"Even in my dreams Sora, your still my light."
Sora's face falls at that and turns quickly to shocked and confused. Everything stills. The soft music playing from their heart song becomes silenced. As if holding its breath. Pointing his keyblade to the ceiling, he uses his dream eater powers to wake from the dream. Keyblade shining light covering everything. The last thing he sees before being covered with light is Sora's face. Even if it's just a dream, he hates that look on Sora's face. He looks sad, wishing Riku could just stay. Riku wishes he could too.

Sorry to get into your asks if you’re not one for asks, was just scrolling through the kazumaji tag and saw your post on majima dropping a million yen on Kiryu? I played through y2 but I can’t remember this at all…when did that happen. I’m genuinely curious and want to go back to y2 look for it if that’s the case
hi anon
This is in the Majima saga of yk2. As soon as majima is allowed to roam kamuro he gets a message from another tojo guy to wire money through the ATMs in poppo to send to kiryu as a gift (eventually.)
He goes "Hehe!! Look at me drop money on kiryu-chan!" when he does
It's 100,000 yen first, then 1,000,000, but in game the money turns into gifts for kiryu to pick up in Serena.

> she keenly studies those scenes over Serena’s shoulder, and develops…inspiration…for later.
LMAO this was the laugh I needed today, trying to imagine Serena and Jen introducing the uh. unicorn into the bedroom
Not the unicorn 💀 lmaooo
Jen taking cues from Yen would be absolutely lethal.
Serena thinks it’s all well and good until she comes home and sees that monstrosity in the bedroom.
120% chance Jen has to take her in for a broken arm that night. Didn’t account for the height 😅 they learn that some things are best kept to fiction

The Celestials’ Guardian Character List (MASTERPOST)
Alright, I’m cracking and I’m gonna make those profiles! Hopefully this will motivate me to finally finish the profiles for both the Einherjar series and the Attero Dominatus series, haha ^^
Now the character list for this is kinda similar to The Einherjar Files in that this is numbered in order of appearance in the story proper. And since this story is gonna be somewhat similar to BT Redux, it’s gonna be broken down into seasons—although this won’t be quite as long as BT Redux! And due to the flow of ideas, a lot more universes are showing up here. Looney Tunes was a given due to Warmonger’s appearance, but I’ve also decided to add Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Disney and even classic characters such as Popeye, Felix the Cat, Betty Boop and (possibly) Woody Woodpecker. Why? Because I wanted to. XD
Now these universes and a few of their elements (ie. The adventures of Scrooge and his family, the Martians’ conquering of the solar system from Duck Dodgers, and even the legend of the Sea Hag) will be present through the first few arcs. The characters will make their proper debut later down the line!
I’m still working on the technical aspects of the story which will show up in a separate post, but yes, I did rename this story from The Cerulean Avenger to The Celestials’ Guardian since while Huck is one of the main characters, I’ve always intended for Droopy to be the center character. And it sounds kinda cool ^^
If I reblog this, it means that A. I've linked the character's art/profile to this page, and B. I've added more characters/info. Just a heads up.
Oh, and for the asterisk (*), it means the character is deceased during the story itself.
In chronological order of appearance:

Diane Steelclaw
Huckleberry Hound — Avenger I

6 OCs for the price of one!
Special thanks to @ginevrastilinski-ocs for helping me out with these! Technically she helped me with every element of Christopher & Evander (plots, names, overall vibes) but in doing so also accidentally helped me figure out a bit of what I wanted to do with Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girl too 😅
Face 1:
1. Descendants — Prince Christopher James II, aka Topher Charming. Chad's older brother and the first born royal of his generation. Second in line for the throne of Auradon and will be until Ben has kids, Ben's chief advisor, big brother to an entire generation of royals. To try to help with Ben's first proclamation, he takes over helping the VKs adjust to Auradon, accidentally falls in love with the first boy to ever look at him and just see him
2. Gilmore Girls — Unnamed. Goes to boarding school in Europe and then to Yale, part of the LDB and very close friends with Logan, Colin, Finn, and Chilton boy. Overachiever and kind of an asshole, isn't used to people liking him for himself and not for his money so doesn't really know how to have friends but he's trying
3. Gossip Girl — Unnamed. Serena's older brother, goes to St Jude's and then Harvard, golden boy, eventual Blair ship
Face 2:
1. Descendants — Evander Königin. Evie's older half brother, son of the Evil Queen and Prince John. The first born child on the isle, his mother raised him to be a king far more than to be evil. Stayed close to his younger sister but left Castle Across The Way in order to be mentored by Yen Sid, refuses to take side in any turf wars, and creates a safe space for any VK who needs somewhere to go, regardless of their affiliations. Invited to Auradon with his sister and her friends, accidentally falls for a prince who seems far too good to be true.
2. Gilmore Girls — Unnamed. Goes to Chilton with Rory and then to Yale, part of the LDB and very close friends with Logan, Colin, Finn, and unnamed blondie, always up to some sort of shenanigan but also an overachieving sweetheart
3. Gossip Girl Reboot — Unnamed. Goes to St Jude's and is part of the seven samurai. Parents are both high profile politicians, wants to go to either GW or Georgetown and then go into politics, not a fan of suddenly having his life on blast from the new Gossip Girl. Regularly hooks up with Max, eventual probable OT4 with Max, Aki, and Audrey

Favourite ships for each of your fandoms? One of each.
Taimanin asagi: Mhm... not sure, sicne there are very few guys. Maybe Tatsurou x Rinko? But it's more because i love icnest and fidn rinko hot.
Overwatch: A few years back i would have said Soldier: 76 x Mercy, but now i'd say ti's soldier: 76 x Ana most of the time. On non-smut version, it's either Brigitte x Pharah or D.va x Lucio.
Mass Effect: M!shepard x Ashley williams. Ash was probably my first video game crush ever.
World of Warcraft: Mhmmm... No actual ship i particularly like. Maybe Anduin x Tess? But maybe not? I haven't really thought about WoW from a shipping angle ever. when ti comes to smut, male!worgen x female draenei/bloodelf/night elf is fantastic
Final Fantasy VII: Cloud x Tifa. I don't particulalry care about Cloud as a whole, but he is very cute with tifa.
Dragon age: Leliana x Alistair or Bethany x hawke. First is because it's a classic but i like it. second is because Bethany was one of the handful of charatcers i didn't hate in that game.
Naruto: Again, classic and obvious, but Shikamaru x Temari was the first time i actually gave a thought abotu shipping.
Dragon ball: Yamcha x Bulma, I guess. I only read a handful of Dragon ball volume and saw some DBZ episode, and i didn't particularly care about the series or the ships within.
Bleach: Toshiro x Rangiku. I'm not sure why, but i really like their dynamic, and matsumoto is really hot, and (pun aisde) toshiro is cool
Pokemon: There are ships?
Miraculous Ladybug: Adrien x Kagami. marinette's stammerign and osession with Adrien got grating after a bit
Skyrim: Dragonborn x Serena, i guess?
Witcher: Geralt x Triss. Sorry yen, but i played the first game before reading the book, and she came a s a bit of a bitch in the books (and didn't have much of an impact on me)
RWBY: I know almost nothing about the series.

so far my highlights
the kiryu cards that say "defeated kuze" and "defeated kuze… again"
that kuze only pays out 100 and then 50 yen
the fact that "get out of jail free" is a kiryu card
the entire tojo clan HQ is valued at a mere 200 yen
my boyfriend managed to pass go, directly into mr shakedown, 4 separate times
i landed in jail several times over. the jail on this board does in fact have kiryu's face behind bars
i ended up buying so much more than him oops - the early game especially is all about strategic buying without too much wallet drain, and i like to think i nailed it! we both cornered each other out of several monopolies but i did get serena/stijl/earth angel >:)
this is really fun LOL i haven't played monopoly in years, even more fun that it's yakuza theme

With that tag about Jen getting jealous over a couple pixels and a bit of code, how long would it take for her to realize that Serena chose the love interest that's closest to Jen? Or that in the character creator Serena tries to make Jen?
Endlessly amused by the idea of Serena trying to romance the character most adjacent to Jen 🥰(especially cute if Jen is away for some reason and she can’t be with her).
Like, Serena replaying the Witcher and being in love with Yen’s character. Jen doesn’t understand the fuss. She’s competitive, likes to know she’s bewitched Tav, body and soul. So naturally, she gets curious as to which assortment of pixels has caught Serena’s attention.
….and she learns that her gf is romancing a very beautiful, well-spoken, bright eyed, raven haired, witty, snarky, talented enigma of a woman. One letter away from her own name 😅
It’s got to be quite flattering, learning Serena might have a dream type and she doesn’t just fit the bill, she invented it!!! 😁💕 she keenly studies those scenes over Serena’s shoulder, and develops…inspiration…for later.
Jen is basically learning that she’s the woman of Serena’s dreams!! She becomes very invested in making sure Serena stays loyal to Yen after that 😭
#Tav making her in the character creator#and Jen realizing how much Tav has studied and adores her features#🥺💕#the same scars she hates are Tav’s favorite features to add and highlight??!?#im crying#consonance fic#oc: serena tavyndír#shadowheart#ask#58thfalcon

The Poker Penalty at New Serena
Genre: Humor, CW//Drunken Shenanigans
Rating: T (for rough language)
Word count: 4, 371
Kiryu and the gang all spend the evening unwinding in New Serena after the events of Yakuza 5.
Enjoy.
New Serena--Closed for Business
Friday Night
It was sweet of Mariko to close up shop for the guys that evening and with all of the chaos they had been through, some much needed celebration was in order. After all, they were alive and safe... for now. It wasn’t often that they all found themselves in town at the same time with nothing to do, excluding Shinada, who due to recent events was only in town on business and only a new acquaintance but that didn’t mean he couldn’t enjoy a nice evening of free drinks and cards.
It was Akiyama’s idea. He suggested the idea to the others passively, not really expecting an overwhelming positive response and he was glad that he did. Everyone had more than their fair share of drinks and he suspected there would be more alcohol served in the coming hours, after all, it was on his yen.
Kiryu seemed to be more at ease especially with the introduction of alcohol into his system, after all, his daughter was just in the backroom with Date’s wife and after the weekend was over, he’d be returning home to the rest of his kids. It was all he could think about.
They were on their third round of poker and Saejima was grinning from ear to ear in his drunken stupor.
It wasn’t every day that he got to play poker against his sworn brother and win, not only was his brother alive but he was actually free to spend some time with him over drinks. If he wasn’t careful with his drink, he might have thought that he unknowingly won the life lottery or at the very least was dreaming.
“Guess that ‘ol eye a’ yers ain’t as sharp as it used to be, huh, kyoudai?” he chuckled, slapping down his cards before raking in the pile of hard-candies that his hand had just won him.
“Heh? Again~?” Akiyama whined.
“Tch, whaddaya know, guess not.” Majima shrugged, flopping his cards in the center for whoever’s turn it was to deal.
“You know, I’ve gotta say, I was told that you were some great poker player. So, this is kind of…” Akiyama rubbed the back of his neck, “embarrassing.”
Majima sank into his seat with his glass of liquor, “Huh? What the hell went an’ gave ya that impression?”
He smiled and shook his head, “Forget it.”
Shinada leaned over to Kiryu who was unknowingly swaying to the music playing on the speakers, “Think it’s the drink?”
Kiryu’s eyes trained on Majima’s sweating glass. At this point he lost count of how many drinks he had as well as anyone else, he was feeling far too good to care.
“I’m not sure and I’ve never played him before so I wouldn’t know but Saejima did talk a big game before this.” he said, not realizing the bass in his voice was carrying well enough for everyone else to hear.
Date puffed out his chest and lowered his voice, a goofy grin lifting his rosy cheeks, “Muh kyoudai’s gonna wipe da floor wit’the lotta ya!”
The room fell silent, every drunken pair of eyes focused on the detective whose grin even deepened, clearly pleased with himself and Akiyama did the honors.
“Date-san… Was that supposed to be your impression of Saejima-san?”
The older man nodded, proudly… Truly pleased with himself, indeed.
“Yeah, what do you think?”
Kiryu smirked, “I’ve heard worse.”
Shinada laughed heartily, “I don’t know the big guy all that well to say for sure but I still think it was pretty good!”
Majima ignored the attempt at Kansai-ben by the detective, he was more interested in what they were saying than how they were saying it. When he looked at Saejima, he saw his brother’s cheek pinker than what the alcohol would usually cause and he could tell that he was forcing the corners of his lips down to keep from laughing through the embarrassment.
His own lips quirked, “Huh? What’s this about my bro out there braggin’ on me?”
“Awright, awright.” Saejima waved a large hand dismissively, his movements were largely delayed from his speech. “Thatsenuff.”
“Eh? Is he embarrassed?” Shinada laughed, “I guess even he has a cute side, huh?”
Shinada’s brave observation was enough to throw Majima into hysterics, shortly after causing the other drunks to join in. Saejima was far too drunk to recognize why they were laughing at him which only further caused him to double down to avert further embarrassment. His bottom lip twisted into a frowning pout but with his facial muscles this relaxed his stare down of Shinada was far less intimidating than a sober one might have been; that’s not to say that the younger man wasn’t still metaphorically shitting bricks.
“Y’wanna repeat that?” Saejima asked, his nose lifted in a snarl.
He was well-fit enough to hold his own in a fight but he has seen up close and personal what this man could do and they were too much of acquaintances to know whether this much alcohol would turn the larger man into a bull seeing red or not. He avoided the man’s eye, leaning forward to collect the pile of cards in the center of the table, just wanting to keep his hands busy.
“N-no, sir. Hehe…” he chuckled, bowing his head nervously.
“Don’t let him scare you, Shinada-chan.” Akiyama propped his head up on his palms as he rested his elbows on his knees, his dark lashes fluttering heavily with sleep, “he wouldn’t hurt a fly in this state.”
As the man expected, Saejima’s attention was directed to himself instead, taking the heat off the newcomer and bearing the brunt of it himself.
“Th’hell’s that s’posed ta mean?”
“Oh, nothing~” he yawned.
With Majima sufficiently pleased with the teasing of the big guy, he finally inserted himself to further twist the knife. “Hey, kyoudai, don’t ya go deflection’ an’ shit! What’s all this ‘bout ya braggin’ on my poker playin’?”
Even though Kiryu was practically in his own little world of zen, he interrupted before Saejima could answer, not wanting to witness any further teasing, “Is it true though, Majima-no-niisan?”
“Is what true?”
“That you’re good at poker?”
Majima shrugged, adjusting the strap of his eyepatch, a faint smile on his lips. “I’ve been known to empty out a house er two.”
“Then why the hell ain’t ya playin’ at yer full potential, kyoudai?”
Saejima’s passionate query startled the others but they couldn’t deny that they went into this evening fully expecting a completely different man than what Majima was giving them. He was invested in the table talk itself, but the game? It was hard to believe that Saejima wasn’t bullshitting when he insisted on how good Majima was before he got to New Serena.
So, they wanted to know the truth. Was he good or wasn’t he and if he was, why wasn’t he playing very well at the moment?
Akiyama scratched his stubbly chin, narrowing his eyes at the man in question. “I think I’ve got you pegged, Majima-san.”
“Oh?”
“I take it you’re the kind of man that sees little value in using your energy if there isn’t any return. In other words, since here’s just a pile of hard candies, there’s no stakes to get your blood pumping. No adrenaline; and that makes things far less interesting to you, does it not?”
Shinada’s mouth popped open and he clapped enthusiastically… He was the only one clapping.
“A-amazing! How perceptive, Akiyama-san!”
Date’s forehead furrows deepened and he squinted at the confusingly enthused man. “That’s pretty basic stuff. Why are you so impressed?”
Kiryu bobbed his head and although he wouldn’t yet voice his opinion, he had to admit to himself that for someone who’s known the man far less time than he has, it was a pretty spot-on assessment. Majima Goro was an enigma, to get any read on the man at all was a triumph.
Five sets of glossy eyes, red eyes rested expectedly on the one-eyed man and he couldn’t help but chuckle. There was no need to deny that Akiyama was right, he totally was.
That wasn’t to say that he wasn’t enjoying himself, on the contrary. It had been far too long since he’d been able to sit and enjoy a good drink with a group of men, mostly his own age whose company he didn’t mind keeping, men he could mostly reveal what was under the mask to-- with the exception of Shinada, of course.
Even with the unfamiliar face, this was a nice change of pace but the truth of the matter was that it just wasn’t easy for him to get emotionally invested in a game where his only winnings were piles of hard candies that didn’t even taste good.
“Well?” Kiryu asked, surprising even himself that he was in need of an answer from the man.
“Right on the money,” he nodded. “As expected of ya, Mr. Detective.”
Just as Date was lifting his glass to his lips, Majima’s comment stopped him and he frowned. “I’m the detective.”
Kiryu flashed Akiyama a playful smile before removing himself from the couch with a grunt to place his empty glass on the bar top. “Akiyama busted out his thinking cap more times than I think I’m comfortable with.”
“Eh? See~ that’s why I don’t like you drunk, Kiryu-san. Isn’t that a little below the belt?” Akiyama whined. “There’s such a thing as being too honest, you know.”
“Maybe, sorry,” he said, returning to his seat. “I saw an opportunity and couldn’t resist.”
Akiyama smiled, he was only teasing, playful Kiryu was always a breath of fresh air.
“Alright, so. Majima-san, what would it take for you to play for real?”
“Ya sure ya want that? It might not be as fun as ya think it will be.”
“I, for one, don’t mind seeing your more serious side every once in a while, niisan.”
“Yer makin’ me look like a lyin’ chump, kyoudai! Give it all or nuthin’.”
“Fine, fine.” Majima sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “If yer all gonna bust my balls about it, I’ll play ya right and true but we’ve gotta make shit interestin’ or it ain’t happenin’.”
“Um…” Shinada began, “As much as I’d like to participate in a game of serious poker with you guys, I have no money. So, I’m going to have to drop out here.”
“Hold yer britches, kiddo. Ain’t nobody said shit ‘bout money… In fact, in the spirit of making shit interestin’, how ‘bout ya let go of yer britches!”
“Ehhh, I’m not sure I follow?”
“If you’re suggesting strip poker, niisan, you can count me out.”
“C’moooon, I thought ya wanted it to be the real deal this time around? What’s a better motivator to get me goin’ than knowin’ I can leave ya in yer skivvies?”
“No.”
“Nuh-uh.”
“Not a chance.”
“I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea but Haruka-chan and Mama are right there in the next room. Out of respect for the ladies, I’ll have to decline.”
“I gotta agree with Akiyama-san here. Also…” Shinada trailed off, “I don’t really… use underwear, every time.”
“Ugh.”
“C’mon.”
“No one needed to know that.”
“Wait, now, hol’up a goddamn second. What the hell’s wrong with free-ballin’ it every once in a while?”
There was a loud clang at the bar. Unbeknownst to the men at the table, Mama and Haruka had just stepped out of the back room as Saejima enthusiastically challenged the naysayers.
“U-um… S-sorry, Uncle Kaz! I-I’ll come back later!”
“H-Haruka!”
The horror of the situation temporarily sobered Kiryu up and he was ready to run to the back to apologize to her but Date discouraged him.
“Kiryu, from one father to another, let her go…. Just let her go.”
“B-But--”
Akiyama sighed, “And my point very much stands.”
“Mariko, check on her, would you?” Date called to his wife.
The woman dried her hands on a towel and returned to the backroom with the shaken teen, leaving the next round of drinks mostly unpoured. Date might not have been the best father in the world but even he couldn’t deny that some things were best resolved with a woman’s touch rather than a well-meaning father’s injection.
He slipped out of his seat, wrapping his apron around his waist. If he had to serve this round to help preserve the innocence of a teen girl, he didn’t mind taking one for the team.
“Dammit.”
“Sorry, Kiryu.” Saejima said, genuinely ashamed of the trouble he caused.
Majima shook his head, “This’s all yer faults! I never once said a goddamn thing ‘bout strip poker. Now look, ya’ve gone an’ scarred a young girl for life!”
“Okay, so what did you mean?” Shinada asked.
Majima rubbed his gloved hands together, “Forget the score and up the stakes, winner choses a penalty for the remainin’ five an’ the losers gotta comply no matter how crazy the penalty is.”
“Within reason.” Kiryu said.
Date kneeled at the table, placing the drinks he made in front of their respective owners, then skillfully cleared away old drinks and empty glasses. “Are we all a little too old and wrinkled to be doing bar dares?”
Akiyama frowned, “Hey, speak for yourself! Shinada-chan and I are still in our prime, right, Shinada-chan?”
“E-eh? What do you mean? Aren’t you middle aged?”
“Excuse me?” Akiyama said, genuinely offended. “I’m 34. What makes you think I’m middle aged? How old are you?”
“37.”
“Okay,” Akiyama said, grabbing the deck of cards from in front of the other man. “forget about Shinada-chan--”
“H-hey, should you be calling me Shinada-chan if I’m your elder--”
“I’m still in my prime, guys~!”
Date finally returned to his seat, his own fresh drink in hand. “Then, what the hell am I?”
“You ain’t no spring chicken, that’s for sure.” Majima said. “How old are ya, old man?”
“48.”
“Ain’t no way in hell yer 48!”
“Why the hell can’t I be 48?!”
“‘Cause I’m 48~!” Majima whined.
“Awright, I don’t wanna hear no more ‘cause I’m just a yer younger ‘an you, kyoudai.”
“I’m 44.” Kiryu added.
“Kiryu-chan, you aint--”
Realizing the uproar he caused, Akiyama laughed as he shuffled the cards. “Now, gents, let’s not put too much stock on the numbers here. Okay?”
Saejima scoffed, “Easy fer you ta say, yer balls prolly ain’t even started saggin yet.”
Akiyama quirked a brow and nodded, “I am still firm and youthful, thank you.”
Kiryu’s eyes darted to the door that quietly shut behind the commotion and he rolled them in frustration, “Can we nix the mention of body parts, please? Or at the very least use your inside voices.”
“Kiryu-chan’s right. You bozos are wastin’ time.”
“That’s not at all what I said. What do you mean?”
“Who cares? Let’s just play some poker! Ya got me fired up. Let’s go. Clock’s tickin’!”
“That’s the kyoudai I know.”
“Baby balls, ya gonna deal ‘er what?”
“Honestly…” Kiryu sighed, checking the door.
“I don’t approve of the nickname being forced on me.” Akiyama said, finally dealing the cards.
After a few hours of ‘real deal’ poker, Majima had more candies piled up in front of him than he had in every round beforehand, combined and his current hand was more than enough to send every last one of them packing. It didn’t take Akiyama using his deduction skills to recognize that the spectrum of defeated expressions was the result of a strategic ‘ass-whoopin’ as Majima would call it.
Even Saejima seemed to regret unleashing this beast.
Every pair of glazed over eyes were trained on Majima’s hand as if they were trying to summon x-ray vision, anxious to know what he’d do next as his face did nothing to give him away.
“Majima-san…”
The single eye rolled over each nervous man, the adrenaline had long since sobered them up. A sadistic smirk slowly split his face and the tension was at its crescendo. As if he moved in slow motion for dramatic effect, he finally revealed his hand.
“Fuck.”
“Dammit.”
“Shit.”
“Ugh.”
“Me an’ my big mouth.”
Everyone revealed their hands, the suspense was over; they lost, and to Majima Goro, no less. Majima laughed wickedly as he scooped every last piece of candy into his corner, his brain was turning with possibilities. “Cheer up boys. Ya asked and I gave it to ya. Why the long faces?”
Date sighed with relief that it was finally over as he folded his arms and nodded. “I tip my hat to you, sir. That was damn fine poker playing.”
“Saejima-san, I’m sorry we doubted you.” Shinada said, slumping back into his seat.
Saejima’s head dipped into his palm, “Told ya so…”
“Why do you somehow sound disappointed?” Kiryu asked.
Akiyama chuckled, “Essentially his winning streak was a lie.”
“Awright, so what’s this ‘bout a penalty?”
“Again, it has to be within reason.” Kiryu said, feeling as if he really couldn’t stress that enough.
“Kiryu-chan, what do ya take me for, huh?”
“Well,” Date said, “let’s hear it.”
Majima smiled, “Not so fast, I never said that it had to be tonight.”
“You’re not planning on popping up on us as we go about our day to cash in on your penalty, are you?”
“Um, I don’t understand why Kiryu-san looks petrified but anything that scares him, definitely scares me.” Shinada said, transferring his palm sweat to his jeans.
There was a light in Majima’s eye that made Kiryu shiver. He’d seen that look one too many times before and the worst part was that he wasn’t sure what to expect.
“Nothin’ like what yer thinkin’, Kiryu-chan… It’s much better, if ya ask me. We all got one more day in town, right? Meet me back here tomorrow after an’ I’ll have it all sorted out by then.” he said.
“Fine, so long as--”
“It’s within reason, Kiryu-chan, I know.”
“Guess we got no choice.”
“I have to be here tomorrow regardless, I’m practically screwed, aren’t I?” Date said.
“Um, I might have to take a raincheck.”
“Shinada-chan, aren’t you stuck here until tomorrow anyway?”
“No rain checks or else I’m gonna have ta show ya exactly what Kiryu-chan’s so afraid of.” Majima said, lowering the depth of his voice.
“I’ll be here bright and early~! Hehe!”
“I wouldn’t say that I’m afraid.”
“Dammit, Kiryu-chan, don’t ya ruin my big menacin’ moment with that shit.”
“Alright gents, since it seems we’ll all be seeing one another tomorrow, don’t we call it a night?” Akiyama suggested, stretching out of his seat. “I could use some sleep right about now.”
Shinada’s leg bounced anxiously in his seat as he traced the rim of his glass, all he could think about was the penalty and what lengths Majima would go to make sure they completed them. He didn’t know much but he knew enough to be wary anywhere the one-eyed man was concerned.
“What do you guys think he’s going to make us do?” he asked.
“It’s always hard to tell with a guy like him.” Kiryu said, leaning on his fist. “That’s why I asked Haruka to stay at the hotel, just to be safe.”
Saejima ripped open a packet of ‘Legendary Drinker of Ryukyu’ with his teeth and clicked his tongue when some of the contents messily sprinkled onto the bar top. His head was swimming and he couldn’t put anything past his sworn brother.
“I got an email from Nishida askin’ what size I wear,” he said.
“In what, specifically?” Date asked.
“Clothes, right down to the socks and shoes.”
A small smile curled Kiryu’s lips, “Heh.”
“What are you smiling about, Kiryu-san?” Akiyama asked.
“If I know him as well as I do, he’s probably just going to come back asking us to wear some silly zombie get-ups or idol costumes from way back when.”
“Yeah? How d’ya figure that?”
Kiryu’s smile deepened as he recalled a few memories, silently surprised at the fondness he was feeling. “He’s got more than a few curious costumes in his arsenal… He’s pounced on me as an officer more times than I can count.”
For a moment, the only thing that could be heard was the clinking of ice shifting in his drink and the faintest ding.
“Pardon?” Date said, slack jawed.
“I don’t know your relationship with the guy but is that something you should just be saying aloud?” Shinada asked.
Saejima didn’t have the energy to do much but stare at Kiryu with a disturbed expression.
“W-why are you guys looking at me like that?”
Akiyama chuckled, “Kiryu-san, perhaps you should choose your words more wisely around this bunch?”
When realization set in on Kiryu’s face, the door of New Serena burst open with great vigor.
“LADIES AND KIRYU-CHAN!”
Date sighed, “Speak of the devil and he comes busting down your wife’s door.”
Saejima groaned, rubbing his temples. “God, keep it down, will ya?”
“Majima-no-niisan, you're much more energized than I was hoping.”
“What a bunch a’ sad sacks. The hell’re ya doin’ mopin’ around a bar for?”
“Uh, perhaps the disturbing amounts of alcohol last night have something to do with it?” Akiyama suggested, sarcastically.
“Well, wipe them sorry ass looks off yer faces and rip of yer pants. We gotta penalty to perform!”
“What’s this guy’s obsession with pants?” Shinada mumbled.
“Forget it. I told you, I’m not stripping, niisan.”
“Let’s thank our lucky stars that we were all here last night or otherwise that might have sounded rather strange out of context.” Akiyama chuckled.
Saejima frowned at Majima, “What’s happened to you, kyoudai?”
“What-- What’s the matter with-- Why do ya keep tryin’ ta pin this strippin’ shit on me? I never once said a goddamn thing about strippin’ yet here we go.”
“Then, what’s all this about ‘ripping off’ our pants?” Date asked.
“Well, ya can’t really put on new pants without takin’ off the old ones, right?” he smiled, “I’m tired of these same tired ass looks. I wanna see ya in some new threads, that's all.”
“I’m sorry.” Akiyama said, “You want us to give you a fashion show?”
“I ain’t say that but now that ya mention it, I ain’t opposed.”
“So, you did bring costumes?” Kiryu asked.
“Not quite.”
Shinada buried his face into his palms, “Please, I beg of you, the suspense is killing me.”
“O-oi, what the fuck? Don’t rush me!”
“Kyoudai...”
“Fine, here it is: you boys’re swappin’ clothes for the day.”
“Swap clothes? You mean, dress like each other?” Kiryu asked.
“Exactly!”
“Wait a second, I don’t have the cash to just go wasting on an outfit to match anyone.”
“Huh? Who said anythin’ about buyin’ somethin’? I want the real deal, clothes right off yer backs, ill fit an’ all.”
Kiryu shuddered, at the memory of the declaration of “free-balling” the night before. “There’s got to be a better way to--”
“Sorry, Kiryu-chan but I won fair and square. That makes me king of you fuckers and as yer king I say go swap clothes with Akiyama.”
“I--”
Before Kiryu could argue, Date’s phone rang, interrupting the flow of conversation. It was the station calling him in immediately.
“How convenient, Date-san.” Akiyama said, “a little too convenient.”
Date slipped his phone into his coat pocket, “Trust me, I know how it looks. I hate it just as much as you. I gotta say, I might have enjoyed the opportunity to see Kiryu dressed up like that. He might really look like a scumbag then. Er, no offense Akiyama.”
“None taken.”
“Fine, whatever.” Majima said, frantic. “I’ll just tinker with my original plans but this is still happenin’!”
While Date slipped out of the bar, Majima scanned his unfortunate pawns.
“I got it! Alright, so kid, you’ll dress as Kiryu-chan; Kiryu-chan, you be kyoudai; Akiyama is the kid and kyoudai, you’ll--”
“There’s no way in hell I’m fittin’ in Akiyama’s suit.”
“Who said anything about Akiyama? I got something real special for you kyoudai-- just you wait.”
“Do you really expect us to do this? Isn’t this school yard humor?” Kiryu sighed.
“HAW?!” Majima scowled and folded his arms over his chest, “‘Scuse me? ‘Less I’m hearin’ with my bad eye, I recall ya sayin’ ya’d accept the penalty so long as it’s “within reason”. What’s not in reason about wearing your buddy’s threads while ya go out on the town!?”
“As much as it kills me to admit, the man’s got a point.” Akiyama said.
Kiryu dipped his head and sighed, he couldn’t help but wonder what was it about him that attracted the crazies and why was he always willing to go along with the insanity damn near every time.
“What the hell do I get myself into?” he said, rubbing his temples.
“Kiryu-san’s a pretty big guy but that jacket still looks like it’s going to swallow him whole.” Akiyama snickered.
“I have to wear this all day?” Kiryu asked, “And, Saejima, this thing is heavy. Are you really that cold?”
“Hey, not bad. Not bad at all. This kinda suits me, I think.”
“Why do my clothes fit you better than they fit me? I don’t like that one bit!”
“It ain’t a bad look, Akiyama.”
“Yeah… Kinda borin’, actually. NEXT!”
“PftHAAAHAHAHA! GET A LOAD A’ THIS GUY!” Majima laughed hysterically, rubbing his aching sides. “Give us a lil’ twirl!”
“Huh. Just as I thought, Kiryu-san’s suit really is outdated. No one else could pull that off.” Akiyama said, stroking his chin.
“Oi, those are just my work clothes for when I’m here. I don’t need to update my wardrobe to run an orphanage.”
It was taking every muscle in Akiyama’s body to try to not fall into a laughing fit, Majima was doing that enough for everyone.
“You know…. I’m not sure what I expected but… it definitely wasn’t that.” he said.
Kiryu narrowed his eyes at the matching pair of sworn brothers, “Nothing about this sits right with me.”
“I ain’t wearing this garb all day. I look like a clown.”
“Whaddaya mean?! I say ya look like a billion yen, kyoudai! Now, give us a twirl!”
