I'm very attached to the WATGBS AU faves we have for our WATGBS AU :) I used my edits of the characters for this.

My top main faves are all very important and personal characters for me. So I felt like they should all be in the 1st row. Other than my top main characters in the 1st row, the placement is not according to order, just who I thought of first. There’s also many more characters I love!

Also yeah I absolutely did put 5 Magi charas on this list just cuz the cast is so goated in general, I had to. There’s 3 KHR, 3 WATGBS AU, 4 FGO, and 5 Magi charas here omg.

Sen-core and meow meow mfs are identifier terms my friends and I came up with to refer to the character design, personality, and writing tropes that appeal to and cater perfectly to my tastes. My brand in fictional characters! I'm my cats' cheerleader.

It follows a filmmaker who holds auditions for his next project. Several of the actors who fail to win roles participate as extras.

Tadashi Kobayashi, a popular filmmaker, runs casting for his new film. As he is not interested in filming with a famous actress, a lot of different people with different stories of suffering are invited. Everyone tries their best to convince the director but most of them will be cast as extras.

Red Post On Escher Street is a love letter to cinema and filmmaking.

Sion Sono focuses on the extras that are normally barely recognized. But all of them can break out, become heard, and create a wave of change. Just like we all do in real life.

The film manages to switch between a lot of perspectives and characters without getting confusing. The actors are all very unique and charming on the one hand but also very loud and a bit over the top on the other. Nevertheless all that is what makes the movie feeling so lovable, human, and intense.

The absolute highlight is at the end when everyone gathers to shoot the movie and the situation starts to escalate more and more. Everyone sets his emotions and wishes free and you can barely distinguish between reality and fiction, role and actor. But everyone has the same value, everyone counts. The film grows with magic and intensity through very beautiful visuals and a great aesthetic.

Former Toei Animation producer Tasuku Saitō passed away of natural causes on February 27, 2021. He was 87 years old at the time of his passing. Intro Rambles

Idk what time I'll post it but you'll see a Flower Symbolisms post for my ships later (either today or sometime this week)

It's still a huge WIP though cuz I want to fact check the meanings against each other

Cuz often with flower symbolisms, there are lots of blog posts on Florist sites, but they don't list actual sources

But I was checking the Hanakotoba meanings in English, and the Hanakotoba (official JP site that's mainly in Japanese)

It mainly focuses on Hanakotoba florography, but it also includes general florography (Victorian, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese)

I was looking into Hanakotoba (Language of flowers) meanings earlier today, so I got the chance to write some ideas down for XanLena and KuroEne.

I have a few ideas for LimGuda too, and I still need to come up with ones for JuAli.

I'll be adding to it overtime!

Ok I think I'll be posting the more updated version of my ships assigned to flowers in the next 1 - 2 hours

Whenever I finish writing the post and my rambles

So far it's just XanLena and KuroEne but I'm planning to add LimGuda, IdaTatsu, JuAli, eventually 🙏

It takes time cuz I have to fact check my interpretations (some flowers’ symbolisms are not listed on the Hanakotoba official web site so I have to go off of florist blogs)

I'll be posting a ships assigned to flowers (Flower symbolisms) post within the next 1 - 2 hours or so, so look forward to it! And when I do, I'll copy paste these rambles over

So far it's only XanLena and KuroEne. But I'm planning to add ones for IdaTatsu, LimGuda, and JuAli eventually!

Like I have to read it in JP, interpret it, and then fact check if my interpretations are correct, since some flowers don't have meanings/symbolisms listed on the official Hanakotoba (JP) website. Cuz it takes time to fact check my sources.

It's mainly based on Japanese Floriography (Hanakotoba, "Language of Flowers") but there's bits of Victorian, Chinese, and Vietnamese Floriography too

Selena and the Lotus Flower

In KHR, the Vongola family is the most powerful mafia family in Italy (associated with the protagonist, Tsuna, and his group)

And the Varia is an elite independent assassination squad under the Vongola family, led by Xanxus. And Xanxus, who was the major antagonist of the Varia arc, but later becomes a chaotic side ally in subsequent arcs, fucking hates Tsuna’s guts (LMAO). Keep hating, king 👑

In my KHR AU, Selena joins the Varia as one of their assassins, and eventually becomes Xanxus’ S/O. Like that’s really all you need to know about my KHR AU. You can follow along with my rambles just fine with just that info, cuz I tend to explain the context.

Selena’s Viet name is Liên, the Sino-Vietnamese word for lotus in Vietnamese, which is often used for femme names. Vietnam’s national flower is also the lotus flower 🪷

That’s where my username “Sen” comes from (Hoa Sen), the modern word for lotus.

I chose the name “Sen” myself cuz I feel distanced from my IRL name. Like, I wanted a name so that I’d feel more connected to my wife, who is deeply important and personal to me…

I literally first created Selena when I was 9, so she feels like a part of me and my heart. Like… A chara you've loved for so long they're apart of you and your heart. This is a good way to explain it :3

Me: Also I know one of the meanings of the lotus flower is “Far from the one he loves.” But I wasn't thinking of that for Selena

I was thinking of the other meanings associated with the lotus flower for Selena. The lotus flower in Buddhism is seen as “The one who rises/emerges from muddy/murky waters (hardships, challenges in life), and stays pure/reaches enlightenment. The flower that bloomed and stayed pure”

In the KHR: Vongola 77 guidebook (the first KHR info book with the chara's info charts and relationship charts, etc.)

Apparently, Bel (Belphegor)'s line towards Xanxus in his Relationships chart in the Vongola 77 guidebook is, “If I'm the prince, then Boss is the king”

The Vongola 77 guidebook has outdated info (Xanxus' height, weight, and bloodtype get updated in the more recent two info books), but I trust the relationship charts since Vongola 77 uses KHR's info right up the Varia arc (Iirc it came out sometime after the Varia arc)

Bel, who is a member of the Varia, comes from royal lineage (he’s a prince). Which I find to be so neat, considering Bel’s arrogance? Even though the Varia members are chaotic co-workers (basically an assassin kindergarten brawl) who have no respect for each other (except for their skills), and would sell each other for a corn chip (LMAO), they all deeply respect and are extremely loyal to their Boss/leader, Xanxus.

Though I do imagine the Varia members really do warm up to Selena since she is their fellow co-worker (especially when she later becomes Xanxus’ gf/wife) and feel a little protective over her

And that's why, I imagined that Selena would give Xanxus bouquets of flowers that she associates with him, and also ones that represent her love for him, such as peonies, carnations, roses, etc.

The tree peony is known as the “King of Flowers” in the Hanakotoba. Selena considers Xanxus, “the King of the Mafia” and “the King of the Varia,” therefore, it's only right that she gifts him the King of Flowers as a sign of her love, admiration, and respect for him.

The lotus flower has deep ties to Buddhism. Also, the lotus is Vietnam's national flower. And it's Selena's name sake.

Lotus vs. Water Lilies

Me: Also Lotus (Hasu/Renge) and Water Lilies/Sleeping Lotuses (Suiren) are both different flowers but they just look REALLY similar to each other

And yeah I have a lot of lotus themed faves!

Me: Also Iirc lotuses often rise above the water

C: Oh yeah! Makes sense Irl lilies and lotus look a good bit different

Me: Yeahh like I see differences in the petals. Water lily petals look more pointed and lotuses have more rounded petals

For Kuroha, I find it so interesting how the Kagerou Daze: LN 7 -from the darkness- art has dark spirals surrounding him that coincidentally look like the Higanbana (Red Magic Lily)’s spindles??? Like it’s probably just a cool aesthetic dark aura but it has such a similar shape… Especially fitting for Kuroha since Higanbana is considered to be the Flower of Death, the Corpse Flower and Hell Flower. Also I love the composition in this art, with the dark spirals and the darkness seeping through his hands… It’s so good AHHH

And the symbolism with how the deceased have to cross Higan, the far side of the Sanzu River, the realm of the dead. The path that they must take is dependent on the weight of one’s sins (a bridge, a ford, and snake-infested waters). And Kuroha/Saeru is an Eye Ability Snake that “gouges out Eyes” in Outer Science… “Eyes” → Mekakushi Dan (who are represented by their Eye Abilities)

LimGuda (Douman/Ritsuka) and Wisteria

And now we'll come back to Douman/Ritsuka AKA Limbo/Guda

It's one of my personal headcanons that Douman compares Ritsuka to wisteria flowers because their name, Fujimaru Ritsuka (藤丸立香) contains the character for wisteria flowers (藤, fuji) and also because the colour purple indicated that someone was of the highest status/rank back in Heian society, so it's like him seeing them as royalty…

Purple was seen as the colour of royalty in ancient EA and SEA societies. And Ashiya Douman (at least the original human) is a historical figure that originally came from the era of Heian-era Japan. Also you see LimGuda being associated with wisteria a lot as popular fanon cuz many fans (both EN and EA fandoms) picked up on this.

Because I'd imagine that it's his way of saying that they're the person that's most important to him, that he regards as higher than anyone else. That's so romantic, I'm gonna pass out /pos

I imagine in Douman's eyes, his Lord is physically above everyone else to show the supremacy of their "power" (beauty, strength of heart and mind, and kindness), and that the love he secretly harbours for them is forever eternal.

Ritsuka's name is Fujimaru Ritsuka (藤丸立香).

Ritsuka's name uses the kanji for wisteria (藤, fuji). God. Ummm my huge ass brain??? Even before I found this out last year, I always associated the LimGuda pair with the wisteria flowers…

Wisteria only has several official meanings listed on the Hanakotoba, so people assign their own special meanings to the flower (including to fit their characters/ships). I'm gonna call it the flower of longevity and eternal love despite time.

Yeah looking into the meanings that people associate with wisteria… Duality of love, devotion, endurance in the face of hardships…

Also, I find it fascinating that Limbo's ship fanarts (LimGuda, SeiDou) often have him associating his s/o to wisteria - the flower of longetivity (colour of nobility) that also symbolizes eternal love… He's so fucking romantic.

Wisteria in EA and SEA cultures

Purple was considered the colour of the nobility/high-status in EA/SEA society, including in the Heian period (that the historical figure Ashiya Douman was born in), because purple fabrics were more expensive to make.

Looking into the Hanakotoba meaning of wisteria with one of the meanings being the duality of love, devotion, and endurance and resiliency in the face of hardships…

In China, the symbolic meaning of "wisteria" is both beautiful and heartbreaking - "live for love and die for love".

I HC that Douman likens his s/o to the "wisteria in the lakes" because he desires to be loved and craves affection so he lets his guard down around them (and lets them see him at his most vulnerable) to allow himself to enjoy being bathed in love.

In Vietnam, Chinese wisteria is called "Hoa Tử Đằng." I would associate it the meaning of "eternal love [despite time]". The Vietnamese name for Wisteria literally means "Flower behind death". This… really suits them.

Wisteria is called Hoa tử đằng (lit. "Flower behind death"), and Cây đậu tía ("Purple bean tree") and Hoa fuji ("Fuji/Wisteria flowers") when referred to by the JPN name.

I read this article: Hoa Tử đằng là biểu tượng của tình yêu vĩnh cửu ("Wisteria flowers are a symbol of eternal love") it seems, in Vietnam too? Hmmmm, inchresting!

That's also why I assigned wisteria to Selena (whose main theme colour is purple) and the LimGuda ship (Douman wears a purple bellflower shaped collar and Ritsuka's name has Fuji - Japanese wisteria in their name). It's a purple flower with a beautiful, deadly romantic meaning!

Misc Rambles

Me: Me when some Japanese web sites completely disable copying text: 🧍 Well I figured out a jank method to copy majority of text from a page, but it's highkey annoying that the Hanakotoba official website (JP) doesn't allow you to copy or select text. I usually have a browser extension on the side for word look up

C: Agh right Some Android systems have a solution for this but only more modern ones

Me: For the Hanakotoba, it lists basic meanings of flowers in EN but the more detailed pages are obviously in JP Ahhh I see

I think I was roughly halfway. The title is very literal, so that's the best TL for the title I can come up with right now tbh. I was also thinking of the title, "Ashiya Douman's beloved Master can't fall asleep at 24:00" too... Douman/Ritsuka is really giving me the strength to brush up on my kanji <3 💚 🧡

It's actually a general fan-book, so there are no ship elements, it's just the two of them together. Wani's Douman and Ritsuka gen-fanbook isn't shippy perse, but I still love to see the two together nonetheless. And the title makes it feel subtly shippy. Inchresting... The art is pretty and it's very fluffy and cute and wholesome.

I'm roughly halfway with this one. I found and bought a lot of JuAli doujins secondhand back in January, and I'm very happy about that 🖤 ❤️ 💛 I had a lot of fun reading through them. So I wanted to translate them! I translated this one first cuz I saw the Jucat and thought it looked inchresting to me. It's very cute and funny!

I was honestly really surprised that JuAli even had doujinshi. But I’m really happy to collect ship doujins of my fave Magi ship and fave Magi rare pair :) Most of the JuAli doujins I collected are old doujins, and were made around 2012 - 2015 (around the time the Magi anime came out and when Magi’s EA fandom was most active)

Summary: Judar messes with Alibaba by turning into a cat (it's the whole turning into a cat person trope in EA media), and then Alibaba takes the cat Judar home unknowingly and falls asleep. An unsuspecting Alibaba wakes up to normal Judar sleeping on him the next morning.

I’ll also put my current progress so far under the cut. I actually have a lot more translation WIPs in the woodworks than this, but these are the main ones I'm working on right now (I do TLs on the side when I'm not drawing)

You can read under the cut if you don't mind spoilers! I got to about here in WATGBS. I was in the middle of recording a WATGBS (Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea) playthrough with commentary where I'd talk about our WATGBS AU's lore instead during the boring gameplay parts and criticize Funa’s works (the OG WATGBS).

I was sleeping the whole time playing the game, but I was parading when I got to when Tatsumiya and Idate showed up for the first time. After that, I went back to sleep and haven't gotten back to it since. Snork mimimimi. I'll definitely get back to it, though, when I'm not busy, but it’s not on high priority.

In my own HCs, I personally HC and interpret Ritsuka as NB and they mainly go by They/Them (both for the femme and masc protag designs for Ritsuka), in my head. Those are my own HCs, though, so I went with She/Her for this.

Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea (WATGBS)

I got to when Tatsumiya appeared, and then when Idate showed up later! After Idate showed up, I just went back to sleep, so I haven’t touched the game since LMFAO. I was so bored playing it since Funa’s games aren’t exactly written well or fun either.

I’m only here for IdaTatsu LOL. And also cuz I wanna see what crumbs I can possibly use as setting/idea potential for our WATGBS AU. I’ll pick it back up again in the future, but it’s not a high priority of mine.
