Jang Jae Young: It's kinda gay that we hold hands, don't you think?
Chu Sang Woo: No, I think it's the marriage certificate that makes it gay

Hi! I’m not sure if you’ve been asked this before but, what are your top 5 BL’s that you watched this year?
Hi Nonnie, I have NOT been asked this before! So Thank you!
It's going to be hard to pick JUST 5, but here we go:
5.) Big Dragon The Series
Tumblr media
This makes it to my top 5 because I really found myself loving the series. The more I learned about it and got into it, the more I got excited for it and didn't want it to end. It IS a bit on the chaotic side story wise but it was surprising for me how much I enjoyed it. The complexities of these characters and their feelings for each other, just how DEEP they were, I am total sucker for it. I am so ready for season 2!
4.) Secret Crush on You
Tumblr media
Of COURSE these lovable dorks are going to be in this list. This was one of the BEST series to come out this year. Honestly truly. NueaToh was absolutely incredible and so was SkyJao. I loved the entire story and the pace they took it. They showed 2 sides of a story that could've EASILY gone so wrong but the fact everything lined up the way it did just made me adore it even more.
3.) KinnPorsche
Tumblr media
Of course KP has to be in the top 3. This series had me on the edge of my seat, ready for the next episode to air. It was complicated, romantic, funny and just overall so good. I loved the darker themes that were involved and it was so refreshing to see the characters being real and making mistakes and just doing HUMAN shit. The tumbl app was unbearable but I also think that's what makes this series so great. It started conversations and had EVERYONE tuning in.
2.1) Light On Me
Tumblr media
One thing about me, I'm a SLUT for the cutesy shit. I mean seriously I had zero criticism for this series other than that it was too short. It was cute and sweet, and the 'conflict' was minimal. It was an easy watch and one of my comfort BLs for sure. I rewatch it all the time and I LOVE it every single time.
2.2) Semantic Error
Tumblr media
Yes, yes there is a tie for number 2. But these two really are just SO FANTASTIC. Just like Light On Me this was such an easy watch for me. Cute as hell and the 'conflict' was also minimal. I rewatch this one constantly and it's just one of the BLs that I truly 100% enjoyed this year. I already LOVED Park Seoham, and this was just another reason to add to the list.
1.) Love In The Air
Tumblr media
Let's pretend to be shocked. Of course my #1 series is LITA. I mean, it had EVERYTHING I could have wanted. And while I do feel that each story should've either had their own series or happened simultaneously, it's still a solid mf series. It gave us plot, it gave us emotion, it gave us sex, it gave us comedy.. I mean what more can we ask for?! To think I wasn't even going to watch it... that's crazy.
It takes a lot for me to dislike a series so this is just the ones that stood out to me the most, personally. I have loved every series I have finished so far, and them not being on this list doesn't take away that they're good too!

my first BL i ever saw (semantic error). always a special place in my heart for me. i love that i can read it as unintentionally written autist main character x extrovert who starts out with bothering in the main character but falls for him instead (ERROR! ERROR!).
its one of very rare occasions i actually HC a character as autistic (sangwoo). those who know me, knows how picky i'm about that HC. i don't throw it around casually or anything. gotta earn that badge lmao.

Semantic Error: The Movie [3]
Tumblr media
It's admirable how naturally Jang Jae Young adapts to fit into Chu Sang Woo's life. "Warn me before touching me" - and even drunk he warns him about kissing. What a guy, right?
Lost puppy :D Found puppy :D :D :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHY NOT, BABE? WHY NOT? Honey, you will buy a full subscription soon.
She's beautiful :D
Tumblr media
Must she be so tiny? :D
Tumblr media
Jang Jae Young stopped asking to touch Chu Sang Woo because the guy himself stopped warning.
So, can this be the reason why Jang Jae Young gets off on being called hyung so much? Because the majority of his lovers were older, and the new dynamic of being older and being bossed around by his younger partner is thrilling?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still find it funny how small, calculating and horny Sang Woo is :D

Turtles Catches Up With the Essential BLs: Semantic Error Edition
Woop woop, adding another BL to the library of Things I Am Watching Because Tumblr Is Catching Me Up -- Semantic Error review, here we go!
(Here’s the tag of what oldies-and-goodies I’ve watched and reviewed so far.  As always, thanks for your patience as I review shows that y’all have likely already watched and reviewed. And, I think I should probably put a little explainer here as to why I’m doing so much catching up -- I only joined Tumblr about six months ago, and before then, I was busy literally having babies and feeding them for like five years, lol. So this is the HUGE drama/dorama catch-up moment of my life!)
I mean, Semantic Error was ::index fingers in the air, slightly curling them back, moving them in one half-circle:: PERFECT.
Or, almost perfect. I am so frustrated because I want to link to some great posts by @absolutebl on their analyses of the average show lengths of Korean BLs, and how many fans out there want the full-court, hourlong drama treatment for BLs out of Korea, but I can’t find them. If I can, I’ll link them here.
I think Semantic Error actually benefitted from having 30-minute episodes (although I would NOT have complained seeing Park Seo Ham on my screen for an hour a week) -- simply because I don’t think the plotline of Sangwoo’s hesitation to date Jaeyoung would have held up for that much extra drama time.
(However, I would have LOVED TO SEE A YUNA SIDE STORY, HOLY CRAP -- now THAT would have earned Semantic Error the full-court treatment, if there were some really juicy side love stories with that incredible character. She was SO GOOD.)
Anyway, my only tiny, tiny slight criticism of Semantic Error was that Sangwoo’s swings back and forth, from hesitation and turning away, to coming back to Jaeyoung, to turning away again -- by the penultimate episode, it seemed to me the tiniest bit contrived. But really, not by much. And I kind of wonder if what was happening was an echoing of a kind of storyline trope that I’ve seen time and time again in cishet K-dramas, especially the crappy KBS daytime soap dramas -- the tendency of writers to pull out a back-and-forth love story just to make it work with the length of the series.
But this is NOT a huge complaint. As ABL likes to say -- the Parks hit it out of the park, and this was a FABULOUS drama, done in the complete K-drama style, with the repeating/echoing kiss scenes (AAAAHHH GAAAHH I LOVE THIS TROPE, I LOVE IT!), the GREAT OST, the wonderful homies by their sides, the rejected lover supporting her bias. All of it. Give me all the K-drama tropes!
I am definitely not as read into KBL as I should be, especially the Strongberry portfolio, as my watching time is just glommed into Japan at the moment, along with catching up with the essential Thai BLs. The one KBL that I’m the most familiar with, Where Your Eyes Linger, didn’t dive into the usual K-drama tropes -- it was complicated, a little heavy, VERY sensual. When I was watching Semantic Error, I realized that I was feeling like I wanted, I NEEDED, the wonderful K-drama tropes that keep bringing me back to cishet Korea -- why are shows like Crash Landing On Me and Extraordinary Attorney Woo so great? I can have them on in the background and know exactly what’s happening whenever I look up.
It’s because so very often, the music tells me what’s happening, the tone of the voices speaking tell me what’s happening. Semantic Error allowed those tropes to enter and to play with the storyline. Absolutely nothing about the way the show was filmed or written seemed to me to be contrived for the sake of the storyline being a queer one. There was no condescension or heavy-handedness about the fact that our main couple was queer. There was no heavy-handed pointing to the revelations that Yuna shared with Sangwoo about Jaeyoung’s past relationships, and even that Yuna was also queer -- all of these were just slipped in as fact, because these late-series revelations are, yes, another K-drama trope that almost always work so well.
I loved it all. Considering that I think Korea had another smashing year of dramas all around, especially with Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Cafe Minamdang, Why Her?, and Little Women being so huge, the fact that Semantic Error held its own and was so freaking popular was heartwarming to see. I hope we have another one like this this year. (Park Seo Ham, ILYYYYY, tee-hee.)
Next up in my Catching Up series: Bad Buddy. After that, I’ll hit @absolutebl’s lists to see where I should go. I might take up Dark Blue Kiss to get to know TayNew before the GMMTV Cherry Magic adaptation airs.

Completed BL Dramas Recommendations
So, I'm pretty picky about the types of BL dramas I watch. I've watched a lot, but I usually never end up really loving it, you know? I enjoy scenes here and there, so I decided to make a list of the ones I absolutely adored from beginning to end! Warning though, this is…a really short list. If you have any suggestions on BL movies/dramas, please share them!
2 Moons (2017) (Thai) - 12 Episodes
Tumblr media
Plot (MDL): Wayo Panitchayasawad is a freshman at a university that is also attended by his long-time secret love, Phana Kongthanin, a second-year student. As the Campus Moon, Pha is extremely popular but he does not seem to enjoy popularity at all. When Yo becomes the Moon of his department, the two meet on a daily basis. Their relationship starts quite rough since Pha seems to pick on Yo, but things change.
Notes: This is actually my very first BL drama, so I guess it will always hold a special place in my heart. It was super light and cute. I loved it! I watched it with my mom (lols), and we both enjoyed it so much! I loved Phana and Wayo in this one. And the song. Mygoodness, the song. It will forever be stuck in my head (1~ 2~ 3~ 4~ 5~ I love you~). Actually, I really liked everyone here! The chemistry was great, the acting, and the friendships. <3 It actually has a 2019 remake (2 Moons 2), where the story progressed much farther than 2 Moons. In that one, I actually mostly enjoyed watching Kit and Ming. They were super cute. The chemistry between them was off the charts. I'd suggest 2 Moons 2 for those two alone. However, I didn't care much for Phana x Wayo in the remake. I liked it more when they weren't on the screen…sorry, but the other couples were way, way more interesting with better chemistry… So yes, I suggest 2 Moons (2017) if you want something light-hearted, fun, and short!
Tumblr media
Semantic Error (2022) (Korean) - 8 Episodes
Tumblr media
Plot (MDL): Chu Sang Woo is a junior computer science majoring student who prizes reason, rules, and a rigid sense of what is right above all else. As part of his university work, he is told to work on a group project for the liberal arts, whereby the group is required to make a final presentation in order to pass the module. But as the rest of the group – whom he knows nothing about – have decided to leave him to do all the work on his own, he decides to remove their names, and make the presentation in his name.
But little did he know that when he did this, he would deal a heavy blow to the academic prospects of a senior student named Jang Jae Young. The latter, a design major, is Chu Sang Woo’s polar opposite. He is stylish, fun-loving, and – above all – extraordinarily popular. He is the closest thing the college has to a superstar! But when his credit for the liberal arts project is taken away, his grand plans to study abroad are suddenly thrown up in the air. He seeks out Chu Sang Woo and is of a mind to torment him. But when the duo is forced to work together, a strange attraction starts to develop between them…
Notes: Oh. My. Gods. This drama.
I actually read the Manhwa of Semantic Error, so you have no idea how hyped I was to learn about the adaptation. AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT ME. o(≧∇≦o)
Everything about this short drama is great. I honestly believe it adapted the web novel really, really well! My friend and I watched it together, and we couldn't stop feeling all fluttery and screeching our hearts out after every episode! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝ It very easily took the number 1 spot in my list for BL Dramas, no contest. And even though it was short, it didn't feel rushed, you know?
Other than the amazing (in my opinion) story (except for that really, really weird scene in French class. I didn't understand its purpose when I first watched (and rewatched mehehe) this drama, and I still don't understand it to this day), the actors and the acting! Mygoodness. I thought they casted them to a tee. Park Jae Chan is the perfect Cha Sang Woo, and of course, Park Seo Ham is the perfect Jang Jae Young. Don't even get me started on the chemistry between these two because booooooooooi. There would be sparks every time they were in a scene together. WHY ARE THEY SO CUTE TOGETHER?!?!?!? My heart. TT^TT
Other than the two adorable main characters, I absolutely loved the side characters as well! In my opinion, Choi Yu Na is an absolute queen, and I absolutely adore Ryu Ji Hye. Seriously, you can't hate anyone in this.
So if you haven't watched this yet, please, please do. You will not regret it. Just remembering the scenes from this drama makes me feel all fluttery. ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡ HAHAHHA.

Chu Sang Woo: Babe, I’ve got this weird pain in my chest
Jang Jae Young: Like a sharp stabbing pain around your heart?
Chu Sang Woo: No, sort of like this dull ache, right in the middle
Jang Jae Young: Oh, you’re probably experiencing some emotions
Chu Sang Woo: Oh
Chu Sang Woo: How do I make it stop?
