The SCOY gang!

I was exactly like them in high school and uni. One of the awkward nerdy types that never quite fit in with anyone so I would love to hang out with them in real life. They are so accepting as a group and I think that is definitely what high school/university me would have needed (hell it’s the me of now would love to have).

Rain and I are entirely too alike for our own good, though I do like to think I am a lot more aware than Rain is. Sky is one of those friends that for better or for worse, would always manage to keep us in line. He enjoys it, he just pretends he doesn’t because messing with Rain is fun.

Started SCOY tonight, and this show is made for me. It looks and feels like a Disney Channel Original Movie, which is an aesthetic that I will never get enough of. It's why Thai BL will probably always be my fav. SCOY takes the big-heartedness of a Kenny Ortega production and mixes it with full-on teen lust, though, and I could not be more on-board.

The gaggle of friends is SO PRECIOUS and gay, and I can't wait to start getting into all the gender stuff with Daisy. The magic of gay friendship will always be a fav fictional topic.

Then, I didn't realize Seng was in this, and he has now officially gained membership, alongside Nanon and Neo, to my elite club of friends of friends of Dorothy, for actors who have made public their interest in women but do incredible justice to performing gayness. Seng was already a fave from Knock Knock Boys, playing Thanwa, an incredibly well-done gay adult whose disposition is sweet and soft while maintaining his maturity, sexually and in his general behavior in life. Toh in SCOY is the complete opposite in many respects. Wildly immature, obsessive, desperate, but endearingly so (like any good gay teen). Seng doesn't just play him as a gay character; it's almost as if he's acting out how a gay actor would play a gay character, and it's mind-blowing to witness, especially after seeing the kind of nuanced queer portrayal he's capable of with Thanwa.

Like Toh, I am in love!

Day 50: Favourite female identifying character?

Not one but two that jump out immediately are

Rose and Maya from Laws of Attraction

Rose was truly ride or die for Charn and genuinely wanted to help him and Tinn solve Tinn’s niece’s murder. Maya was also very into helping and I love how quickly both she and Tinn’s grandmother mutually adopted each other. They also managed to get married before the boys did and I love that moment so much.

Daisy from Secret Crush On You

I love Daisy so much. When she’s with her friends, she is always unapologetically herself and she learns through the series how to do that around those she doesn’t know very well. She seems to wake up every day and make a conscious effort to do one of the most radical things a person can do these days, love herself for exactly who she is. Of course she has her growing pains and she spends a fair amount of time worried her crush won’t accept who she is but ultimately (with some encouragement from her friends) she decides being herself is best. A pleasant surprise awaits her when her crush is not only respects her identity but takes care to make sure he refers to her in the way she wants. I love Daisy’s journey of self discovery and choosing to love herself no matter what.

I have started Secret Crush on You because I am tired of Heng Asavarid being the problem when he could clearly be several solutions (brought to you by my bi-ass rooting for mawin/kimhan in Marvelous Dream even though he’s definitely gonna be a problem. The show has other lesbians and Looknam for my sapphic fixations) Also, I love seeing this very openly flamboyant queer friend group living their best lives.

But while Heng as Sky makes me very happy. Also Surprise is a delight in this after he didn’t get much in The Sign, but he does well as the shy guy with snark underneath.

But what brought me here, Nuea totally knows what Toh is up to in episode 1, yeah? Like I’m not crazy. But the way he catches Toh and then pretends not to with the car…like he knows this freaky nerd is into him, yes?

We’ll see but Toh doesn’t bother me half as much as he might because of this. Oh also he feels like a classic anime lead character and I enjoy that about Toh.

And for western audiences of a certain age: Helga Patacki and Toh would have been stalker besties and exchanged tips.

50. Favourite female identifying character?

Daisy from Secret Crush on You. I loved everything about Daisy! She was loud and animated and allowed to be flamboyant and extra without being a joke. She was a really great friend who demanded and deserved respect. Also it was extremely important to me that we saw that Daisy had a love interest.

Yihwa from Together With Me. What a fucking Queen Bee. She was pretty, smart, tough, and stylish. She was an amazing friend and did not play about her friend group. She held everyone together and came up with the best plans to take down Knock's crazy girlfriend. We stan Yihwa in this house.

Pearl from Gameboys/Pearl Next Door. I love every single thing about Pearl. She could do no wrong in my eyes. She was so selfless and intelligent and sweet and kind. She had so much love to give and expected anything in return. She was an angel.

Yuna from Semantic Error. I want to be like Yuna she was so cool and so laid back and so funny. Her whole aura was such a vibe and every time I saw her my mood brightened. I wanted her to find a girlfriend in Semantic Error soooo bad.

Fujisaki from Cherry Magic. Sweet, all-knowing, and all-seeing. She was very mindful of everything around her. She was never too much and always there to solve a problem. She always knew what to say to make people feel better and her energy felt like a big warm hug. I would go to war for that woman.

Yiwa from Wedding Plan. What a fun and lively woman. I love how she had a little mischief streak and she was so cheeky with everyone. I loved how she used her lack of height to flirt with her girlfriend. I also love how charming and protective she was. She's another character who can do no wrong in my eyes.

Sand from The Sign. Everyone should stan Yai's hott trans wifey. We didn't get to see her a lot but all of her scenes were memorable. I love that we got to see her poke fun at Yai but also deliver sound advice to Tharn. She was just a treat and I love her.
