CTS A | Week 3 Emotional Intelligence
01. We talked about "Self-management", "Self-awareness". "Empathy" and "Relationship management". Which aspect do you think you are strongest at, and which is something you should try to improve? Discuss with reference to today's activities, and even your Studio collaborations.
My strongest aspect is self-awareness. I dive deeply into my thoughts and feelings, which gives me insights into why I behave a certain way. This has helped me in Craft Workshop, where I can reflect on my creative choices and make informed decisions about what principles to apply. However, self-awareness can lead to overthinking, which affects my time management in Studio. Self-management is where I need to improve, especially when balancing multiple projects across my modules. Procrastination affects my productivity, and today's activities emphasized how better self-management could enhance my efficiency, particularly for the CPJ, where managing time well is crucial for documenting experiments and progress (Boyatzis; Brackett et al.).
In empathy, I sometimes struggle to express emotions, which hinders my ability to connect with people, especially in Photography class, where collaborative critiques are important for growth. I also tend to retreat during overwhelming moments, especially in group Studio tasks, and I noticed this weakness during today's group work. Developing stronger relationship management would make collaboration smoother across all my modules, ensuring that I can keep up with intense discussions without pulling back (Cherniss).
Francis Bacon's art resonates with me in these areas. His portrayal of emotional turmoil mirrors the inner struggles I've faced when dealing with procrastination or relationship challenges. Seeing Bacon's approach to confronting difficulties head-on reminds me that tackling my issues with self-management and relationship skills could lead to growth, both in this module and across my other classes, from Digital Skills to Studio (Sylvester).

ND Review: Meltdowns? Or reading someone the riot act?
You can view the most up-to-date version of this article here
As I was raised an ableist đ, I can sometimes infer more meanings to words than other fellow auties. As this ableism is consciously waning, there are certain words that âtriggerâ me more than others đŠ.
And, meltdowns is certainly one of those words đ¤. It does actually make me feel physically sick. But, obviously, I donât want to be negative. So, Iâd rather try to take a different perspective, and argue that they should be called outbursts and should be understood and valued as expressions of self-respect, assertiveness, and self-determination đŠââď¸.
Example:
X is on the way to work đď¸. Walk to the bus stop. Bustling around. Breathing exercises while on trying to hang on to the handle on the bus. Take a train. Try to think about something and not look around. Someone shouting something in the background. Get off the train and walk the final leg to work. Kids going to school. Although their sounds are happy, they are still loud đ˘.
Arrive at the office. Make coffee. Someone says something. X replies
Sorry mate, not had my 3 cups of coffee yet, came back in a few hahahahaha đ
with a wide
I hate you but Iâm socially competent đŤ¤
smile.
X spends the day trying to stop themselves twitching from their overstimulation. Also, the so comfortable stimming is prohibited, so no self-soothing of any kind đĽş.
As the day goes on, all of this pile up, and already by lunch time blood is boiling and head is thumping đĽš.
At some point someone says or do something inconsiderate đ˛. Like open a window next to you when outside the traffic is especially noisy. X asks their colleague to open a different window please! yet they make some excuses why it bothers them to respect Xâs wishes âšď¸.
Eventually X will have a âmeltdownâ and tell everyone to f@ck off đ¤Ź.
But is that what it is? A âmeltdownâ has implication of poor self-management, of being emotionally incompetent, of being a victim of circumstances đ¤ˇââď¸.
To call it a âmeltdownâ is a form of victim blaming! Language is important đ˘.
On the other hand, even if we take aside the stressors that precede the trigger event, X was polite, socially acceptably behaved, and made one or more attempts to change the situation đźđ˝. Yet, it was ignored.
Thatâs why I call it an outburst. It is an expression of assertiveness, self-respect, and self-determination. It is how we say you may not respect me đŤ, but I do!
Thatâs why meltdowns are worthy of respect and should be referred to as OUTBURSTS! it is the equivalent of giving someone what for, or reading the riot act! đ¤ (although always beware of how to manage your feelings)

Yugoslavia: 20 Years of Self Management
Summary
Self-Management in Yugoslavia
Self-management is a system in which workers have control over the management of their enterprises. It was first introduced in Yugoslavia in the early 1950s, and by the 1960s, it had become a central feature of the Yugoslav economy.
Under self-management, workers elect representatives to a workers' council, which is the highest decision-making body in an enterprise. The workers' council is responsible for setting the enterprise's goals, approving its budget, and appointing its managers.
Self-management has had a significant impact on Yugoslav society. It has given workers a greater say in their own lives and has helped to promote economic efficiency. However, it has also faced some challenges, such as the need for qualified workers to participate in management and the need to balance the interests of workers with the need for economic efficiency.
The Origins of Self-Management
The origins of self-management in Yugoslavia can be traced back to the early years of the Yugoslav Communist Party. In the 1920s, the party began to experiment with forms of worker participation in management. These experiments were interrupted by World War II, but they were revived after the war.
In 1950, the Yugoslav government passed a law that established self-management as the basic principle of economic organization. The law gave workers the right to elect representatives to workers' councils and to participate in decision-making at all levels of the enterprise.
The Development of Self-Management
Self-management continued to evolve in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1965, the government passed a new law that gave workers' councils even more power. The law also allowed enterprises to compete with each other in a market economy.
The development of self-management led to a number of changes in Yugoslav society. Workers became more involved in the management of their enterprises, and they began to take a more active role in economic decision-making. This led to a more democratic and participatory society.
The Challenges of Self-Management
Self-management has faced some challenges. One challenge is the need for qualified workers to participate in management. Not all workers have the skills or experience necessary to make sound economic decisions.
Another challenge is the need to balance the interests of workers with the need for economic efficiency. Sometimes, the interests of workers may conflict with the need to make profits. This can be a difficult issue to resolve.
The Future of Self-Management
The future of self-management in Yugoslavia is uncertain. The system has faced some challenges, and it is unclear whether it can be sustained in the long term. However, self-management has become too deeply ingrained in Yugoslav society to be easily abandoned.
It is likely that self-management will continue to evolve in the future. The system may become more decentralized, with more power being devolved to individual enterprises. It is also possible that self-management will be combined with other forms of economic organization, such as market capitalism.
Conclusion
Self-management is a complex and challenging system. However, it has also had a significant impact on Yugoslav society. It has given workers a greater say in their own lives and has helped to promote economic efficiency. The future of self-management in Yugoslavia is uncertain, but it is likely to continue to play an important role in the country's economy and society.

Home Care For People With Disability
Caring for a loved one with disability is often time-consuming, physically demanding and emotionally draining. Luckily, in-home care services can help to alleviate some of the stress and workload.
Disability home care provides daily living assistance and personalized care plans tailored to the specific needs of disabled adults. These services improve their overall quality of life and foster a sense of community and belonging.
Staying in the Comfort of Your Own Home
Home care for people with disabilities provides an alternative to living in a nursing home or other care facility. This type of care is highly specialized and requires certified caregivers who understand the unique challenges and needs of disabled individuals.
Caregivers are trained to help disabled adults with basic daily tasks, such as bathing and grooming, meal preparation, and medication management. In addition, they are able to provide emotional support to keep your loved one happy and active in their community.
Home care services for disabled adults are available through government assistance programs, private home health agencies, and long-term insurance policies. It is important to thoroughly research these options to ensure you receive the best disability care for your loved one. In addition, it is helpful to consult with family members and friends who have experience with in-home care for the disabled. You can also ask for recommendations from healthcare professionals and other trusted sources.
Personalized Care Plans
Personalised care planning involves an anticipatory, negotiated discussion between patients and their health professionals where they clarify goals and options together and develop an agreed plan to help them achieve their health-related goals. It may involve a range of interventions such as information packages, worksheets, group visits and educational interventions. However, the primary aim is a face-to-face discussion between health professional and patient (perhaps with family members or
other professionals present) to identify individualised strategies for selfmanagement. The evidence to date suggests that personalised care planning improves the likelihood that a person will follow their health plans (Battersby 2007), and that it leads to better functioning as measured by the Sheehan Social Role Disability scale (Katon 2010a) or WHO Disability Assessment Schedule-second edition (Wilson 2010). However, the wide variation in interventions, outcomes and populations used makes it difficult to estimate generalisable effects. Nevertheless, improvements in medication use have been reported by some studies (eg Wolever 2010).
There are also mixed results on the impact of personalised care planning on other attributes that contribute to peopleâs capabilities for self-management, such as health literacy and confidence.
Emotional Support
Many individuals with disabilities experience emotional and mental challenges, especially when living independently. Fortunately, caregivers can provide emotional support and counseling by listening to their concerns, offering compassion, and providing a safe space for communication. They can also offer companionship and social interaction, which can enhance a personâs overall quality of life and happiness.
When choosing a home care provider, it is important to consider their qualifications, reputation, and level of experience. It is also a good idea to ask about the training and ongoing education programs offered by the agency. Caregivers with extensive training and ongoing support are more likely to deliver high-quality care.
In addition, individuals should consider funding options for disability home care, such as Medicaid and consumer-directed programs. Long-term care insurance may also cover some or all of the costs of in-home care. However, itâs imperative to understand the eligibility requirements and coverage limitations of these funding options. In doing so, individuals can avoid unnecessary financial burdens and secure the right type of home care for their loved ones.
Supportive Services
Many people with disabilities can benefit from the support of a home care agency. By combining medical care, emotional support, and daily tasks, they can enjoy a fuller life in familiar surroundings.
Caregivers specializing in disability home care help individuals stay healthy and active by following medical regimens, attending doctorâs appointments, and administering medication as needed. They can also assist with eating, dressing, and grooming to ensure they maintain a high level of hygiene and feel confident about their appearance.
In some cases, government assistance programs may cover home care services for disabled adults. These options include Medicaid and consumer-directed programs that allow individuals to choose their caregivers and manage their own finances. Long-term insurance policies also often provide coverage for home care services. For more information, talk to a disability home care specialist to learn about available funding options. They can also offer insight on what types of care will best meet your loved oneâs needs.

Getting the Most Out of Your NDIS Plan
The NDIS is an individualised funding scheme that enables Australians with disability to purchase the supports they need. It is based on your goals, not your income. This includes support with daily living activities, community engagement, education and employment.
It also provides funding for capital expenses, like a wheelchair or housing modifications. Some participants choose to have their funds managed by an agency, while others self-manage their own funds.
NDIS planning
Getting the most out of your ndis disability services plan requires proactive engagement and strategic planning. Defining your goals, communicating openly with your loved ones, and selfmanaging your funding can unlock the full potential of this valuable resource.
The NDIS planning process begins when an NDIS representative contacts you to set up a meeting. This may be face-to-face or over the phone. During the meeting, you will discuss your current supports and your goals for the future. Your planner will then use this information to prepare a plan for you.
Your NDIS plan will include different types of support based on your needs. These categories include capacity building, core, and capital. Capacity building is all about helping you learn new skills and become more independent. Core is about assisting with daily tasks. Capital includes things like equipment and housing modifications. Your NDIS plan will also outline your budget. Once itâs approved, you can start receiving the support that is listed in your plan.
NDIS funding
After an access request is approved, individuals work with a representative to create an NDIS plan. This is a document that outlines the participantâs goals and the supports needed to achieve them. Funding is then available for participants to spend on approved service providers.
The support should directly address the impact of disability services ndis on a personâs functional capacity, independence and quality of life. It should also be affordable and represent value for money. The NDIS also requires that support services be evidence-based and able to demonstrate effectiveness in improving outcomes. In addition, it must not duplicate services available in the community or government system.
People with disability can use their NDIS funding to pay for a wide range of supports, including equipment, personal care, transport and assistance with activities of daily living. They can also use their NDIS funds to hire a support worker to assist them with day-to-day tasks such as grocery shopping or cooking.
NDIS eligibility
The NDIS can provide funding for supports and services that meet your individual goals. This can include things like accommodation, transport, therapies and home modifications. You can also access community and social services. These supports are funded through an individualâs NDIS plan, which is regularly reviewed.
You may be eligible for the NDIS if you have permanent impairment that affects your ability to participate in everyday activities. This can be due to physical, intellectual, cognitive, neurological, hearing or visual impairments.
If youâre unsure whether or not you meet the NDIS eligibility criteria, you can discuss your situation with a local area coordinator. These individuals can help you find local services and connect you with community resources. They can also help you understand your options and prepare for your planning meeting with the NDIS. This preparation is known as pre-planning. In addition, they can help you decide whether itâs worth getting support now to reduce your need for support in the future.
NDIS services
The NDIS is a new way of providing disability support in Australia. It provides funding and connections to services in the community that empower participants to thrive. It is a national scheme that started rolling out on 1 July 2016. It is available to people with permanent and significant disability. It aims to help them achieve goals in all areas of their lives, including independence, involvement in the community, education, employment, and health and wellbeing. It also focuses on early intervention where getting early support can reduce the impact of your disability.
You can choose to manage your own NDIS plan or have it managed for you. NDIS plans are divided into three categories: Core Supports, Capacity Building, and Capital Supports. Core Supports include home maintenance, assistance with cooking and shopping, respite care, transport to attend a class or social outing, and personal assistance. Capital Supports include things like assistive technology, furniture and equipment, and modifications to your home.
