Moon Dominance & Manipulation pt 2
TW: murder, rape, genocide, violence, assault, death etc etc
Here's part 1
In part 1, I spoke about the manipulative nature of Moon dominant people, in this post I will be exploring it further and providing more examples.
I think its interesting that the Moon dominant nakshatras, namely, Rohini, Hasta & Shravana are Manushya gana (Rohini) and Deva gana (Hasta & Shravana). It is very telling because even though these natives say and do terrible things, they enjoy squeaky-clean reputations and people usually perceive them as angels. If they were Rakshasa gana people would see through their bs more quickly.
Ariana Grande- Hasta Moon conjunct Jupiter
Tumblr media
Ariana has said and done numerous problematic things over the years, from cheating scandals, blackfishing, donutgate, being extremely rude and arrogant, changing races every few years, to cringe ass over-sexualised lyrics, to being a homewrecker, Ariana is super duper messy YET she enjoys public and media support and is seen as America's sweetheart. Other people have lost their careers for less but Ari gets away with absolutely everything. She publicly admitted that Pete was her rebound guy (she was engaged to him) which is such a shitty thing to do to someone?? Like imagine if the genders were reversed lol
Ariana is a solid example of always seeming like the innocent person even though she's the messy one. Even with her latest album, its pretty obvious who cheated on who but she's been subtle enough with her music to make it seem like her ex cheated on her (she made him sign an NDA upon divorce which in itself is SOOO sketchy like what is she afraid of him revealing????) to imply things like that when you've put the other person in a position where they literally cannot speak for themselves is peak Moon dominant manipulation. She then posted a half assed story on IG asking fans to stop attacking "people in her life",,, its so apparent that she incited the whole thing in a super calculated manner and once she got what she wanted, she tries to pretend to be the good guy whose fans did all the terrible stuff🙄
Selena Gomez, Pushya Stellium, Mercury in Ashlesha atmakaraka (they both lie in Cancer which is Moon ruled)
Tumblr media
I wouldn't have included rashi rulership but Selena is an exception. She's the queen of playing the victim and is second only to Meghan Markle. Selena sets her fans on different hate trains every other week. She's very wary of showing support to social causes. She worked with Woody Allen. She treated her best friend & kidney donor like shit, was a terrible gf to Justin Bieber, treated Demi like shit during a really tough period of Demi's life, can't sing at all yet, produced a whole TV show (13RW) that is extremely triggering for people with mental health issues and was advised by MANY to change things but she just didn't??? honestly, if you watch her documentary you can see how she's the most self-absorbed narcissistic person, every single thing has to be about her all the time.
Despite all this, Selena is almost universally loved.
Tumblr media
Amy Dunne from Gone Girl is THE best example of a Moon-dominant person and the extent to which they'll go to ruin your life. Amy Dunne was played by Rosamund Pike who has Shravana Sun conjunct Mars
Amy had such a squeaky clean image that it was impossible to convince anybody that she was the sociopath who tried to fake her own death.
Leonardo DiCaprio- Hasta Moon
Tumblr media
Leo is a creepy middle aged man who only dates women under 25, lives for the yacht life and spends his free time partying and doing drugs, all of which is fine but these are things that other Hollywood men come under fire for ALL the time, yet Leo is pretty much everyone's favourite, he's the environmentalist humanitarian even tho he's private jetting to his private island to party with models, even tho he's received flak in the last couple of years for dating women much younger than him, its still more of a running gag than anything serious. He hasn't suffered because of it in any way. His reputation is still intact.
John Lennon- Hasta Sun, Shravana Moon
Tumblr media
John was a wife beating, child beating, abusive to multiple women, made fun of people with disabilities, pretended to be an anti establishment hippie even though he accepted an MBE from the Queen of England (he returned it years later in protest) and yet he is remembered as a counterculture icon and one of the most talented musicians ever. He was a violent abusive man who preached peace. Although he was a philanderer himself, he was obsessively jealous and possessive towards the women he became involved with. Lennon was an extremely wealthy man who lived a rich lifestyle, but he said that we should "imagine" a world with no possessions or greed. In short, he was a hypocrite. Yet he is still remembered fondly unlike sooo many other figures in history.
Amal Clooney, Shravana Sun conjunct Venus
Tumblr media
speaking of hypocrisy, here's Mrs Clooney, the human rights lawyer who wears $34,000 worth of clothes while championing the poor. She attends gala and balls wearing clothes worth thousands of dollars to "raise money for charity" whilst being married to a man who has a net worth of $500 million. Like I'm sure he could just write a cheque?? The Clooneys throw a lot of charity balls/dinners/parties etc as well and its so funny to me because its obvious they're doing it to keep a certain image before the media, whilst also getting all glammed up and having fun, without doing anything tangible to actually help anybody. imagine your job is to represent refugees, unfairly imprisoned heads of state and advise the UN and you also split time between 5 different mansions all over USA and Europe in private jets lol yet Amal enjoys a good reputation for being a girlboss
Gwyneth Paltrow- Rohini Moon
Tumblr media
Lady Goop is a nepo baby and has a net worth of $200 million yet she feels the need to make money off of people by selling bullshit wellness products like $55 sex oils, $400 meditation mats, mouth tape, vibrators, theraguns, vitamins, health supplements and god knows what else?? She's one of the many westerners who sell commercial spiritual nonsense to the masses but coming from someone as rich as she is?? like maa'm?? she promotes so much alternate medicine bullshit on her podcast as well, there is obviously real actually helpful alternate herbal treatments/medicine etc etc BUT that's not her focus she talks about getting rectal ozone therapy (not kidding) and shoving garlic in her ears to clear her chakras and spreads misinformation. there are plenty of people in america who can't access health care, imagine how you're endangering them by suggesting that rose quartz and mouth tapes and candles will cure you. She promotes a eating disordered diet as a "healthy one". all in all, she's sketchy but people just make fun of her and don't see her as someone manipulating innocent people into buying super expensive "alternate medicine" from Goop.
Helena Blavatsky- Hasta Moon & Venus
Tumblr media
Helena is the co-founder of the Theosophical Society and was an international leader figure in the Theosophical community. She basically helped promote eastern spirituality and philosophy in the West except that she's lied about pretty much her whole life, so its hard to confirm literally anything about her. She died in 1891 so at the time when she was alive there was no way for others to prove whether or not she was lying, they just had to take her word for it. She lied about training with sages in Tibet and lied about her mystical experiences, plagiarised ancient eastern texts to write about her "spiritual discoveries" etc There's plenty of proof that she was nothing but a charlatan yet I find it interesting how she still has a devoted following and even in her lifetime enjoyed a good reputation as a mystic medium lmao
Ranbir Kapoor, Hasta Sun & Mercury, Shravana Moon & Rohini Rising
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ranbir gets a lot of hate as of late but for the most part he has enjoyed a really good reputation despite being a shitty person.
Jeane Dixon- Rohini rising
Tumblr media
She was a psychic and astrologer who predicted the JFK assassination.
John Allen Paulos, a mathematician at Temple University, explored the tendency of Dixon and her fans to promote her few correct predictions while ignoring the larger number of incorrect predictions, naming this habit "the Jeane Dixon effect."
Many of Dixon's predictions proved erroneous, such as her claims that a dispute over the islands of Quemoy and Matsu would trigger the start of World War III in 1958, that American labor leader Walter Reuther would run for president of the United States in the 1964 presidential election, that the second child of Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and his young wife Margaret would be a girl (it was a boy), and that the Soviets would be the first to put men on the Moon. (excerpt from her wiki)
basically she had no real powers but managed to convince others she did, her clients included Ronald and Nancy Reagan lol
Jordan Peterson, Hasta Moon , Rohini Mercury & Shravana Ketu
Tumblr media
He is a good example of the worst type of Moon dominant man. He has said among other things:
That class conflict is a natural and eternal struggle for existence that no political or economic revolution could ameliorate. The individual must develop an aggressive, alpha-male attitude in order to climb the social ladder. Peterson is kind of obsessed with power (all Moon dominants are lol) acc to him only a strong will, exercising itself against a contingent and meaningless world — and against the weak — can one ever hope to flourish.
Jordan Peterson endorses the idea that some men are purposely denied sex by women and that conventionally attractive men are 'taking all the sex' from other 'deserving' men. As a result, he suggests that by assigning women to men and pressuring them to 'settle' and have sex with isolated men, they wouldn't be so "angry at God" and commit acts of mass violence and murder. This, as well as criticizing birth control and saying that women would be happier if they just "allow themselves to be transformed by nature into mothers," is dangerous rhetoric that reinforces patriarchal violence against women.
He's a manipulative asshole who propagates his sexist harmful chauvinistic views as pseudoscience or psychology ew
Freud- Rohini Moon, Hasta Mars
Tumblr media
i couldn't make a post about Moon dominance and manipulation without mentioning the godfather of promoting his fucked up worldviews as science, Mr Sigmund Freud aka the most successful Moon manipulator who has caused permanent lasting damage to society
Sigmund believed that homosexuality in men is neurotic but not particularly problematic. Lesbianism, however, he considered a gateway to mental illness.
This (according to Sigmund) is because only men have moral sense. We all evolve from apes, so no human is born with it. But boys acquire morality through the castration complex—the fear that their fathers will emasculate them for their misbehavior.
Having nothing obvious to neuter, girls and women are essentially amoral, lying and conniving to get what they want. Girls must be guided through civilized life by a father, and a woman by a husband. And because they choose not to marry, lesbians remain loose cannons, fundamentally untrustworthy and unstable.
His daughter Anna was his closest intellectual and emotional companion. Yet she was a lesbian.
Freud taught that lesbianism is always the fault of the father and is curable by psychoanalysis.
Freud cautioned followers that analysis is an erotic relationship. Analyst and patient together must scrutinize the amorous feelings that flow between them. This being the case, by rules he asked his followers to honor, Freud could not attempt to cure his own daughter’s lesbianism.
he also overgeneralized a lot of his “findings” such as the oedipus complex to apply to all people, which was harmful in the early stages of the formation of psychology. today most of his theories are disproven and widely considered problematic. Freud was obsessed with sex and made everything about sex (Moon men are sex addicts and every Moon man I've mentioned so far has a weird relationship with women)
he is credited with being the first psychologist to actually listen to women's problems but when he did listen to them, and many of them told them of their SA experiences, he changed the narrative to "women want to screw their daddies so they have these dreams/fantasies of sexual encounters in childhood" (the Electra/Oedipus Complex) to sell his books. He LIED basically, he manipulated the truth into something disgusting.
Freud is credited with making psychology a legitimate field and for it gaining attention worldwide but he literally manipulated, lie, overgeneralised and in general spewed a lot of toxic nonsense in order to get attention, like Gwyneth with Goop or Helena with Theosophy.
Sobhita Dhulipala- Rohini stellium
Tumblr media
Sobhita like most others bought a brand new face for herself yet masquerades under the "im not like other girls, i read" nonsense, she talks about acting, art and self love like she's some committed thespian when girlie cannot act to save her life. she says she does not work out just cleans her house and does chores to stay fit :) bc she's not like other shallow actresses, she does her own chores :) compared to most other people on this list she's harmless but I find her super pick me and pretentious
Moon dominant people are very good at picking up on lies, and understanding human behaviour because they're liars themselves lol, it takes one to know one.
Azealia Banks- Rohini Sun
Tumblr media
she's truly unhinged af and a very vile person but some of the people she's called out are also terrible people and tbh her insults are so poetic lmfao
Tumblr media
dont get me wrong i think she's a terrible person but there is some truth to some of the things she says which is what i meant by how Moon dominant people understand human behaviour. also Moon dominant people are HATERS dont expect them to say anything nice about anyone lol
I had a friend who would deliberately compliment every other girl we were friends with (Rita is sooo pretty, Lily is so stunning etc etc) but would never say ANYTHING nice about me EVER and when others complimented me she'd act like she didn't hear it or something lmao (it was wild) and one day I straight up asked how come you never say anything nice to me and she said "oh I didn't know you needed compliments from me, I thought you got enough validation from others, I didn't know you were desperate for more" 😭😭😭😭LIKE GIRL WHATTT, honestly making these posts and exposing the dark nasty side of Moon dominant people is helping me heal from all the toxic abuse I endured at the hands of this shitty girl and some others ughhhh that's the reason why these posts have more personal anecdotes than any other post i've made lol
Oprah Winfrey, Shravana Sun & Venus
Tumblr media
Her show was pure exploitation of peoples problems and also gave a platform to the equally exploitative Dr. Oz, the king of fake science, and Dr, Phil, the king of fake psychology.
It's a well known fact that she's friends with Harvey Weinstein & Jeffery Epstein despite being a "supporter" of the Me Too movement. Not to mention, she gave a platform to the phony Michael Jackson accusers from Leaving Neverland (do the research, they're liars) while turning a blind eye to the actual sexual predators of Hollywood, like Weinstein.
Her style of journalism seems to favour the shock value of a breaking news scandal rather than actually seeking the truth.
Several celebrities have come forward to talk about how poorly they were treated on the show. Oprah loves to relish in the misery of other ppl and ALWAYS makes others deeply uncomfortable with the straightup rude and hurtful questions she asks them.
Ellen DeGeneres, Shravana Sun & Venus
Tumblr media
the fact that two of the most sociopathic TV hosts to ever grace television has identical placements is so telling. Ellen has been exposed in the last couple of years for being a terrible person to work with and treating her guests like shit. What I find even more interesting is the fact that the person who sort of initially exposed Ellen for being a manipulative liar is Dakota Johnson who has Hasta Sun & Mars, when I tell you that Moon dominant people deeply understand human behaviour and the psychology behind people acting the way they do, this is what I mean, it takes a Moon dominant to understand the manipulation of another one.
Kristen Bell, Hasta Moon
Tumblr media
she probably has one of the most toxic marriages ever and yet speaks of it so glowingly and always talks about "how much work" it is to stay married like girl💀💀maybe exit the marriage then?? she has such a sweetheart image but she has admitted that she gives her children non-alcoholic beer, locks them in their room at night, makes them shower with her to "save water", talks to them about their father's addiction and their sex life??
"We make funny videos but we also go to couple's therapy because we disagree on 99.9 percent of issues," she said at the time. "There are days when I'm completely sick of him, and there are days when he is completely sick of me. But we've chosen to love one another and to be a team. We've learned how to communicate and argue in a really healthy, respectful way."- Kristen said this about her marriage like girlie nothing about it sounds healthy, if its this much work then it probably isn't love lol
Kate Winslet, Hasta Sun, Moon & Rising
Tumblr media
Winslet has worked with predators like Woody Allen, Harvey Weinstein & Roman Polanski and after Me Too, she shifted her narrative as public opinion regarding these men, whose crimes and accusations have been well documented for decades, has thoroughly shifted to the point where associating with them is no longer good for her and would like to join the right side of history. She & Leo have partied on Jeffrey Epstein's private island as well and she's one the many signatories who signed a petition to free Roman Polanski ewww
This is one example of how image conscious Moon dominant people are, she has no moral compass and had no issue working with all these predators for decades but once it became apparent that she wouldn't benefit from associating with them anymore she's suddenly all "omg terrible men i wish id known better" lol what a liar
She also played a sociopathic Nazi in the movie The Reader
Josephine Baker, Rohini Sun
Tumblr media
Josephine Baker was a dancer known for her banana skirt dancing. Later in life, she adopted 12 children from different ethnicities and spent the rest of her life raising them. She is remembered as an icon and for her activism but her children have come out to describe how abusive she was to them.
During her participation in the civil rights movement, Baker began to adopt children, forming a family which she often referred to as "The Rainbow Tribe". Baker wanted to prove that "children of different ethnicities and religions could still be brothers." She often took the children with her cross-country, and when they were at Château des Milandes, she arranged tours so visitors could walk the grounds and see how natural and happy the children were in "The Rainbow Tribe". Her estate featured hotels, a farm, rides, and the children singing and dancing for the audience. She charged an admission fee to visitors who entered and partook in the activities, which included watching the children play.
She created dramatic backstories for them, picking them with clear intent in mind: at one point, she wanted and planned to adopt a Jewish baby, but she settled for a French one. She also raised them in different religions in order to further her model for the world, taking two children from Algeria and raising one child as a Muslim and raising the other child as a Catholic. One member of the Tribe, Jean-Claude Baker, said: "She wanted a doll".
Baker forced Jarry to leave the château and live with his adoptive father, Jo Bouillon, in Argentina, at the age of 15, after discovering that he was gay. Moïse died of cancer in 1999, and Noël was diagnosed with schizophrenia and is in a psychiatric hospital as of 2009. Jean-Claude Baker, the unofficial addition to the Rainbow Tribe, committed suicide in 2015, aged 71.
Angelina Jolie, Rohini Sun
Tumblr media
Jolie was clearly inspired by Josephine Baker. she adopted children from different ethnicities and even bought a Chateau in France to raise them in (just like Baker did). For many years Jolie received a lot of flak for her unconventional parenting, like frequently travelling, homeschooling all her kids and not giving them a bedtime or any kind of stable daily routine. I can't comment on it too much because there's not that much about their personal life on the internet but what I do find very interesting is how Jolie has always used the paparazzi to push a certain image and stay relevant. We know that paps only come when you call them, even Beyonce never gets papped, so its very much possible to live a lowkey life. Angelina gets papped absolutely all the time for the last 20yrs, it was especially bizarre because it was obvious that she was trying to shed the "homewrecker image" by always being photographed with her kids doing mom things and its a bit problematic to think that she's using her children as pap fodder to push an agenda. Again, I think Brad is an abusive person but he often spoke back in the day about his desire to keep the children out of the public eye but Angie had to shed her weird punk goth who kissed her brother and was addicted to bad men and drugs image so she tried to present herself as the kind humanitarian and loving mother, I'm not saying that she isn't those things, except that girlie will make sure the paps are around to photograph her doing these things like she called the paps to her daughter's first day of college bro likeeee
Here's a very old article about how smart she is at crafting her image. Again this is not in and of itself a bad thing but it's kind of bizarre to realise how image conscious people can be and how something that seems so "real" and "natural" is actually a well calculated move on their part.
Tumblr media
Angelina also played the sociopath Lisa Rowe in the movie Girl, Interrupted. people often associate this character with her Revati Moon but i assure you this is all on her Rohini Sun
Russell Peters - Hasta Sun
Tumblr media
Russell is really good at studying people, accents, mannerisms etc which is what makes him a really good comedian but he's also fckn rude and disgusting from time to time.
Honestly Moon dominant men always spew the most vile shit, they talk about people especially women in THE most disgusting way. actual psychopaths ew especially the cocky self assured way in which they say all this bullshit???
Errol Morris- Shravana Sun
Tumblr media
he is a documentary filmmaker whose work focuses on the epistemology of the subject, he's obsessed with human nature and trying to understand why people do what they do, all of his docus focus on vvv unusual people, death row prisoners, defence secretary instrumental in the vietnam war, insurance frauds, a man who designs death machines, pet cemeteries etc Morris focuses on people who are questionable to say the least, he tries to humanize people perceived as evil or bad (Moon dominant af lol bc who else would be interested in the motives of bad ppl??)
This preoccupation with human nature is deeply tied to the nature of Lunar people. They have a need to understand "motivations" and what drives people to do what they do. There is an innate tendency to pathologize or pick apart behaviour. This isn't inherently a bad thing but it is something I have noticed among Lunar people.
James Randi- Rohini rising
Tumblr media
He was a magician and skeptic who spent his life exposing other people and their paranormal and pseudoscientific claims.
Moon dominant people are skeptical of everything and the least likely to believe in anything, they're always looking for the truth because they deeply understand human ugliness and believe everybody else is like that (they see themselves reflected in others, which is to say that if they're capable of it, then so must others).
Roman Polanski- Hasta Rising
Tumblr media
pedophile and child rapist Polanski has directed movies like Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown, The Palace, The Pianist etc,, all of his movies have heavy elements of deceit, lies, manipulation etc all of his characters are looking for the truth.
Claire had mentioned in her video about wealth as to how Rohini (Venus is domiciled in Taurus) (Moon exalts in Rohini) creates contentment and this leads to stagnation because dissatisfaction is what creates growth. If someone is content where they are they decay. I think this can be broadly applied to all 3 Moon naks because they have no other motives, nothing to dry them so they start rotting on the inside and doing terrible, horrible, evil things. Venus and Moon embodies the ugliness of humanity.
Josef Mengele- Hasta Moon
He was a Nazi doctor who conducted abhorrent and deadly medical experiments on the prisoners at Auschwitz and administered the gas to gas chambers. He was nicknamed "Angel of Death"
Lenin- Shravana Moon
if you're familiar with the history of the soviet union you will know that Lenin wasnt exactly a sweetheart
Heinrich Himmler-Hasta Sun, Shravana Rising and Ketu in Rohini
he was a prominent Nazi leader who is "credited" with "designing the Holocaust"
Edward Teller- Rohini Moon
This is the guy who betrayed Oppenheimer and is called "the father of the hydrogen bomb". he later expressed guilt over his involvement in the dropping of atom bombs over hiroshima and nagasaki
Henry Kissinger - Rohini Sun & mercury
he was a warmongering asshole who i hope is rotting in hell. he's one of the worst human beings to have ever existed due to the sheer scale and capacity of crimes he enabled and the millions of people who died as a result. i have extensively talked about how Moon dominant people lack empathy, they literally do not care about others, they are selfish to the point where its actually disgusting and pathetic and this guy is one of the worst examples
During the 1968 presidential election he was in the Johnson administration but wanted to get in good with Nixon. So he leaked information about peace talks with North Vietnam to Nixon. They then went on to use this information to sabotage the peace talks and in turn the election.
He committed treason to extend the Vietnam War, ultimately by seven years. That alone makes him a rare breed of terrible. But it’s also damning because it shows how he ultimately believe in anything other than that he deserves to be close to power. He was willing to play games with millions of human lives over a job. And he would have been in the Humphrey administration if Nixon lost, so it was just a job he wanted more. He didn’t care about fighting communism, the rule of law, patriotism, anything. His death toll alone puts him on a short list of the worst people to ever live, but most of the people on there did what they did for an ideology.
He’s also been described as “the Forrest Gump of war crimes.” He just shows up for no good reason in the history of so many atrocities. Often he ordered them, but he also installed dictators who would carry out genocides. There’s worse people in history, but none who have been involved in so many separate crimes.
just read anything about this vile shitty man and you will understand the kind of cruelty and apathy Moon dominant people are capable of.
moon dominant people are "good" with political & military strategy because they dont care about anybody's well being except their own lol
one time i spoke to a Moon dominant guy and he said that there's no such thing as altruism or selflessness and that everybody behaves in their self interest, i found that very cynical and disturbing and he said even people who do charity or appear to be kind are only doing it because they want others to see them that way and that really says more about the nature of Moon dominant people than anything else. he also said he loved attention of any kind and would do anything to trigger people just so they'd react and give him attention lol basically he admitted to having sociopathic tendencies. He was Rohini Moon. imagine being so morally bankrupt and soulless that you cant believe there's goodness in this world or that people are good with no agenda lol I feel bad for people who have to live life being that bitter, imagine rotting on the inside like that
Herman Kahn- Hasta Moon
He was a military strategist and developed the nuclear strategy of USA during the cold war. which is to say his entire job revolved around manipulation. He is quoted as saying:
"At the minimum, an adequate deterrent for the United States must provide an objective basis for a Soviet calculation that would persuade them that, no matter how skillful or ingenious they were, an attack on the United States would lead to a very high risk if not certainty of large-scale destruction to Soviet civil society and military forces." 💀💀💀(avg moon dominant man be like)
In Kahn’s book, the Doomsday Machine is an example of the sort of deterrent that appeals to the military mind but that is dangerously destabilizing. Since nations are not suicidal, its only use is to threaten.
ok thats it for now besties whewww
i am not claiming that all moon dominant people are terrible people so if you have these placements dont take it to heart. i do however think that the dark side of the moon dominant native is truly terrifying. all i wanted to do was shed light on that.

On her new single “Somebody Else’s,” Gwen Stefani makes it clear that the only man she’s ever deserved is her country-singing husband Blake Shelton. The song arrived a day following the GXVE Beauty founder’s announcement for her fifth studio album, Bouquet, out November 15.
On the pop-rock anthem, Stefani candidly opens the first verse singing, “I don’t know why a heart like mine was doing in a love like that.” She continues: “I don’t know why a woman like me was doing with a man like you.”
When Stefani released 2016’s This Is What The Truth Feels Like, she was feeling the heartbreak and pouring her heart out. Fast forward eight years, she’s beyond over it and never looking back. “You’re somebody else’s, and it doesn’t even break my heart,” she sings during the chorus.
As she brags about herself continuing to blossom, she realizes her past life is no longer a concern. In fact, if she were able to, she’d remove her ex’s existence entirely. “If I could go back in time, I would erase you,” Stefani sings. Referring to Shelton as the “real thing,” Stefani recognizes her ex-lover doesn’t compare.
Co-written alongside Madison Love (Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez), Stefani admits that the song is lyrically different to the rest of the album.
“I get a text from Madison with a start of a song called ‘Somebody Else’s,’ after a bunch of sessions that we’d done, and in those sessions there’s a lot of confession and just talk about life and where we’re at now, where we were,” Stefani tells Rolling Stone.
“She came with the idea of this song, and I was like, ‘Uh oh, I don’t even know if I want to give that any energy.’ What I kind of realized was, after writing the rest of the songs, it felt you needed to see a little bit of the dark to see the light and see where I’d just come from originally.”
Sonically, the song is a slight departure from Stefani’s early solo material and more in the direction of some of her recent offerings, “True Babe” and “Purple Irises,” the latter being a collaboration with Shelton and the 10th and final track from her upcoming album. With a guitar-driven production, Stefani, so far, has yet to go full country like many have been assuming. Posing on the official album artwork with a cowboy hat and eight other tracks still yet to be heard, Stefani reveals Bouquet is “not a country record.”
“It’s all the stuff I listened to in the station wagon on the way to church,” Stefani says of the album’s sound. “Yacht rock, though it wasn’t called yacht rock then. The music I listen to now, I wanted this album to reflect that.”
The same month Stefani drops her long-awaited fifth studio album Bouquet, she will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut solo record, Love. Angel. Music. Baby. — the pop classic behind some of her biggest hits, “What You Waiting For,” “Rich Girl,” and “Cool.”

EDM's Impact on Music 2018-2023
Tumblr media
Has the genre finally made itself fully mainstream?
Electronic Dance Music, commonly referred to as EDM, has been a transformative force in the music industry for decades. However, over the past five years, its influence on pop culture has reached unprecedented levels. This article delves into the effects of modern EDM on the musical landscape, shedding light on how this genre has reshaped trends, produced cross-genre collaborations, and broadened the very definition of popular music.
1. The Rise of EDM Sub-genres and Their Influence
In the past, EDM was largely classified into a few mainstream sub-genres, such as trance, house, and techno. However, the past five years have seen the emergence and popularization of numerous sub-genres, each adding a unique flavor to the musical landscape:
Future Bass: This genre, characterized by its euphoric drops and melodic synthesizers, has permeated the charts. Artists like Flume and The Chainsmokers have taken cues from this style, blending it seamlessly with pop lyrics and structures.
Tropical House: Acts like Kygo have popularized this breezy, laid-back variant of house music. Its summery and chilled vibes have made it a favorite on radio playlists.
Psytrance: This trance sub-genre with its fast-paced beats has seen mainstream popularity with tracks from artists such as Vini Vici and collaborations with pop icons like Armin van Buuren.
2. EDM’s Role in Festival Culture
Music festivals have traditionally celebrated a diverse range of genres. However, EDM-focused festivals like Tomorrowland, Ultra, and Electric Daisy Carnival have witnessed skyrocketing attendance. These festivals are not just music events; they've become cultural phenomena, influencing fashion, vernacular, and even mainstream media coverage. Their larger-than-life stage setups, light shows, and immersive experiences have set new standards for concert experiences.
3. Cross-genre Collaborations
One of the most telling signs of EDM's influence is the increasing number of collaborations between EDM producers and artists from other genres:
Pop stars like Dua Lipa and Selena Gomez have teamed up with producers like Calvin Harris and Marshmello, respectively.
Hip-hop and EDM have intertwined in tracks from artists such as Skrillex and A$AP Rocky.
Even rock bands like Coldplay have not remained untouched, as evidenced by their collaboration with The Chainsmokers on "Something Just Like This."
4. The Digitization and Democratization of Music Production
EDM’s rise has coincided with advancements in digital music production. Softwares like FL Studio and Ableton have made it easier for budding producers to experiment from their bedrooms. Platforms like SoundCloud have allowed them to share their creations with the world. This has led to an explosion of creativity and has paved the way for previously unknown artists to chart their course to stardom.
5. EDM’s Impact on Music Consumption Patterns
With streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music becoming dominant, the traditional album format has evolved. EDM artists often release singles or short EPs, capitalizing on the playlist culture. This change has influenced even non-EDM artists to shift towards releasing more singles and fewer albums.
6. Reimagining Live Performances
EDM artists have raised the bar for live performances. With advancements in technology, their shows have become a synesthetic experience, integrating visuals, lasers, and pyrotechnics. These elements, once exclusive to EDM concerts, are now expectations at mainstream pop events.
7. Addressing Social Issues
Artists like Avicii and Steve Aoki have used their platforms to address pressing societal issues, from mental health to political activism. The music and its accompanying videos often serve as commentaries on contemporary challenges, proving that EDM is not just about the beat but also about the message.
Conclusion
In the ever-evolving world of music, genres come and go, with only a few leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of pop culture. Over the past five years, EDM has not only established its presence but also reshaped the very contours of popular music. From its influence on the digital realm to its seamless amalgamation with other genres, EDM’s impact is vast, varied, and undeniable. As we move forward, it's evident that the echoes of its bass drops and synthesizer melodies will continue to reverberate through the annals of pop culture.

Jonas Brothers - The Album
In the early 00s, Disney was a pop star manufacturing machine, helping to launch the careers of Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and the Jonas Brothers. Starting in 2005, they were mainstays on Disney, at least until their hiatus in 2013, where brothers and band members Nick, Joe, and Kevin went their separate ways, whether it was getting married, starting families, or making solo music (or with other groups). The band got back together in 2019, and since then, they’ve released two albums, 2019’s Happiness Begins, and this year’s aptly named The Album.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t listened to much of their stuff, but I did pick up a copy of 2008’s A Little Bit Longer, because the Target version of the album had a cover of The Beatles’ “Hello Goodbye,” and at the time, I was a big Beatles fan and I thought it was a good cover. I remember being embarrassed to get it, though, but that was before I just didn’t really care about “guilty pleasures.” The Jonas Brothers have always been good with hooks, and Nick and Joe are great singers that harmonize well with each other. I’ve been kind of curious to listen to The Album, ever since it came out earlier this year, and I’ve listened to the album a few times throughout the summer. This is the first time I’m sinking my teeth into it, however, so I thought I’d talk about it briefly, because there at least some things to talk about with it.
I’m also really mixed on it, and the reason why I keep going back to it is because I don’t know how to feel exactly. There are some things I really like on here, but this album is weird. I like this album’s sound, as the band opted for an 80s pop sound with funk and yacht-rock, and the hooks throughout it are quite strong and fun, but the issues lie in the lyrics, the overall length of the album, and how the album sounds compared to others that are similar.
The lyrics on this album, to start off my laundry list of kind of complaints, they’re not good. Lyrics have been their specialty, but the lyrics on this album are very vapid, uninteresting, and just boring. This album does have a specific vibe to it, being more about summer and vacations, especially with songs called “Vacation Eyes,” “Summer Baby,” or “Summer In The Hamptons,” but they’re all either about the same things, or they’re just not interesting enough. A few songs are, as the lead single “Waffle House,” and I genuinely enjoy that song quite a bit, but it offers something different. The rest of the album has no substance lyrically, not that it necessarily needs to, but there’s just nothing to latch onto. This also album doesn’t do anything unique or different that other bands and artists with an 80s influence, and even the funkier side of their sound isn’t fleshed out enough to really make an impact.
I want to like this album more, but I think what does it for me is that this album is only 33 minutes long, and hardly any songs are over 3 minutes. It feels like this album was written around the longer songs, and the rest are just fragments of songs that don’t feel finished. Sure, the band sounds good, and the production is nice (Jon Bellion is the main producer on this record, among others), but the album feels unfinished and it feels way too short. I wish the album was longer, but for what it’s worth, it’s still decent. The hooks are good a lot of the time, and a few songs are pretty cool, but the album is kinda bland, despite its catchy and funky sound, and the lyrics aren’t very good or keep me engaged whatsoever. It could be a lot of worse, and for 33 minutes, it’s a very lean album, but it’s also not quite one of my favorites of the year.

Felix Cartal and Tegan and Sara presents: Right On Time
Super clubber song. for the dancefloor
Tumblr media
Renowned Canadian DJ and producer Felix Cartal teams up with alt-pop icons Tegan and Sara on "Right On Time," a dynamic dance track that draws influence from 90s dance music but adds a modern flare. In the late 2000s, Tegan and Sara were among the first alt-pop acts to collaborate with dance and electronic artists, teaming up with Tiësto on "Feel It In My Bones" (2009) and David Guetta on "Every Chance We Get We Run" (2012). Fast forward a decade and we see Felix lend his signature touch to the record filling it with festival and club anthem appeal. "Right On Time" features perfectly crafted melodies and harmonies that build into deeper and more dynamic elements of the song that coexist with Tegan and Sara's velvety voices, making the track a perfect fit for clubs' and festivals' dancefloors as well as radio airwaves. Alongside this new single, Felix recently dropped a remix for The Chainsmokers and surprised fans with a pop-up party in Vancouver, where he premiered "Right On Time" with Tegan and Sara via a live performance. And there's even more to look forward to as the Canadian artist gears up to announce a North American tour for Spring 2025. Read on for the personal takes from both artists on their very special new track:
"It's always a bit daunting working with artists you look up to. Tegan and Sara are artists that have such a decorated career of accomplishments and longevity that it stressed me out almost to the point where it was hard to finish the song. They said, 'Let's just make it a big anthem,' and I loved the simplicity of that. It only took about 30 versions for me to get it right, but I took my time because I wanted us all to love it. They've been featuring on dance music because of their love of the genre way before everyone else was doing it. And I just think that's the coolest thing. It's so authentic. I'm honored to work with people I respect and am humbled that they were down to make this song. Hope you enjoy." - Felix Cartal
Tumblr media
"Felix and I met a half dozen times over coffee this last year, to discuss music, and all the things that inspire us to create it. We decided to collaborate on something. I told him I was very inspired by 90s dance music growing up, and may have sang 'Rhythm Is A Dancer' a few dozen times in the studio to see if it sparked anything. It did. Lyrically, I wanted to push the listener into another time, maybe even another world. It's been a few years (two decades) since I've danced all night, but what I remember most of my time in the club was a euphoric freedom. Surrounded by strangers, I lost all my inhibition and let the music transport me somewhere else. As teenagers, Sara and I were able to shrug off any insecurity or anxiety at raves, but there, we also found community and people like us. While we didn't become dance artists or DJs, there is no doubt our time in the electronic music scene in Calgary in the 90s inspired us to become artists in adulthood. The lyrics, 'You're like a fever burning in my mind, the hotter it gets, the more I leave behind," summed up the whole song for me. Be it a person, a perfect night, an unforgettable moment, or a great song, when something feels right, it can take you anywhere." - Tegan of Tegan and Sara
youtube
Felix Cartal
Taelor Deitcher, widely recognized by his stage name Felix Cartal, has become a prominent force in the electronic music world. His collaborations include working with renowned artists like Kaskade, R3HAB, and Gallant. Felix is also celebrated for his official remixes for stars such as Selena Gomez, Zedd, Galantis, Dillon Francis, MØ, Ellie Goulding, and Diplo. With a discography that spans 5 full-length albums over the past decade, including his latest, "Into Sunsets," Felix Cartal has consistently delivered hit after hit. His track record boasts multiple Canadianplatinum singles and 2 prestigious Juno Awards for Best Dance Recording for his single "Love Me" featuring Lights, and most recently for "Need Your Love" featuring Karen Harding.
Tegan and Sara
Throughout their 20+ year career, spanning 10 studio albums and more than a million records sold, Tegan and Sara have used music as a medium for storytelling. With that storytelling at its core, they have built a multi-faceted media empire that extends into TV, books, newsletters, and public service, always deeply rooted in music. They added executive producer credits to their resume after the release of the coming-of-age TV series "High School" in 2022, which was based on their critically acclaimed, New York Times best-selling memoir. In 2023, they published the first book in their middle-grade graphic novel duology "Tegan & Sara: Junior High," written by the twins and illustrated by Eisner Award-winner Tillie Walden. The contemporary story is about identical twins growing up and growing apart, coming to terms with their queerness and falling in love with music over the course of junior high. The 2nd book, "Tegan & Sara: Crush," was released October 1, 2024. With multiple JUNO and GLAAD Award wins, a Governor General's Performing Arts Award, Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees (Hon. LLD) from the University of Calgary, the 2018 New York Civil Liberties Union Award, and numerous Grammy, and Polaris Prize Award nominations, Tegan and Sara have much to be proud of, but their crowning achievement thus far is the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which fights for health, economic justice and representation for LGBTQ community.

1: A song that you never get tired of
Tysm for the ask!!! ⸜( ´ ꒳ ` )⸝ ♡♡♡ Imma be so real and say Love You Like a Long Song by Selena Gomez and the Scene. For me, lot of songs get dull for a varying amount of time after I squeeze the dopamine outta 'em. Mostly 'cause any new song gets listened to excessively, but it's been years since I first heard that song and I still fucking love it so much. Still the same amount of giddy joy. It just slaps, I dunno what to tell you.
Either that or uh,,,the entirety of the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack (・_・ )ゝ. Especially Jack's Obsession. My life mission is to memorize every single lyric on that album before I die and be able to recite it.

Can you give your opinions on blackpink's discography? Don't include remixes and Japanese versions of songs.
୨⎯ @ , you have arrived on platform channie's cove ⎯୧ ₊˚ʚ ᗢ₊˚✧ ゚. kinda sad that you always been like that, see me making waves and you don’t like that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tis the year 2016, where future global sensation BLACKPINK released its single album “Square One” with Whistle and Boombayah
These songs are a banger, they always were iconic, and will continue to be iconic. In my respected opinion, I liked Whistle a bit more than Boombayah, maybe that's because whistle was a bit more of the calmer counterpart of Boombayah.
Tumblr media
Then in november of the same year, “Square Two” was released, with the tracks “STAY” and “Playing with fire” which, kinda had a mixed feeling from a few BLINK’s
Some BLINK’s said that STAY was a bad song for a group like BLACKPINK, but I beg to disagree. STAY was just an experimental song for the girls, which was a sucess, in my opinion. To keep it simpler, if BLINK’s can like Tally and The Happiest Girl then STAY isn’t an exception.
We all know how well Playing With Fire did, so it’s pretty self explanatory. But my humble opinion is STAY & Playing With Fire were my typa songs fr. (That was before the Album came out)
Tumblr media
Now we have moved onto the year of 2017, where our girls released the single “As if it’s your last”
As if it’s your last felt like a sequel to Boombayah, in terms of Song style and MV making. But nontheless a great song. I liked the highschool typa outfits the girls wore, and Rose’ s red hair was bomb, and you can’t deny that.
Tumblr media
2018, where things slowly started to change for the girls as “SQUARE UP” was released (hey, if BLACKPINK were to teach maths, I’m pretty sure all the students would get A1 honors)
Now, SQUARE UP consisted of 4 songs
DDU-DU DDU-DU - The modern musical masterpiece that they released. I liked the slightly more rock beats in this song, and the MV making felt so luxury compared to their tomboy style MV’s.
Forever Young - This song started the famous BP Tagline “BLACKPINK IS THE REVOLUTION” so this was 1 of the game changing songs for the girls and for the BLINK’s.
Really - This is more of a hip-hop kinda song, embedded with that BLACKPINK style that we all really love.
See U later - My personal fav. No changing that. Jisoo’s vocals in this are insane.
Tumblr media
2019, AKA “THE YEAR OF THE REVOLUTION” for BLACKPINK, as they headlined Coachella.
Now this year has given us an ep (but I kinda wanted more…) but a good EP.
Kill this Love contains
Kill This Love - First post breakup get together typa song from the girls, so a different typa sound.
Don’t Know What to Do - I feel like its a song most teenagers would like alot in terms of the beats and lyrics, as it shows that teenage phase of life where we all have that 1 guy we like and obsess over.
Kick It - A more calmer post breakup in denial song like Kill this love. I wish it had an MV tho.
Hope Not - It’s kinda giving Rose’s HTL, but a group version, as the concept of both the songs is really similar, only the song style is different.
Tumblr media
2020, where the covid pandemic began to rise, and our girls rose with their 1st studio album “THE ALBUM” which went viral for the title track, HYLT
The Studio Album consists of
How You Like That - Another Post Breakup song, but this time, its about how the girl gets up and out from it.
Ice Cream - That 1 flirty song featuring Selena Gomez. I liked the style of it as it was really different from whistle and boombayah, and didn’t feel as experimental as STAY was.
Pretty Savage - Now this is an interesting song as it kinda reflects on a more personal story of the girls. It’s like a diss track to their antis about the assumptions their antis have about them.
Bet U Wanna -This is more like another flirty song, I’m happy were seeing flirty songs from the girls as it shows they know both positives and negatives of a relashionship.
Lovesick Girls - This song are about girls who had one-sided loves and ended up being killed by it. Jennie passes in a car crash, Rose in a tub of BLACK ink, and Lisa from a building. Jisoo was the only one who didn’t have a lover, but she was unable to save the other girls, thus attempting to drown herself, but failed.
Crazy Over You - This song talks about a girl who obsessed with the guy she likes, but the guy is kinda chill w her, which makes the girl obsess over her more.
Love to Hate Me - Again, a one-sided love in which the guy hates the girl & the girl finally sees it.
You Never Know - This is also a personal song for the girls, as it reflects the true environment of what goes on behind the screens of the k-pop world.
Tumblr media
2022 shortly after covid decreased by alot, things were getting better for everyone, and BLACKPINK came out with second studio album BORN PINK, before going on their second world tour.
The second studio album consists of
Pink Venom : The MV for this I loved, as it was a continuation to lovesick girls, where Jisoo uses dark magic to bring back her deceased friends. Jennie comes back in a much bigger, stronger car, Lisa on the ground floor of the building she fell from, Rose’ in black ink. But the song however didn’t feel like a usual BLACKPINK song, and didn’t really hit the mark for some people. It wasn’t bad, but compared to their other songs, it wasn’t as great.
Shut Down - This was a song that showed how far the girls have come on their journey w YG entertainment, as it has references to their old mv scenes, and the BLACKPINK in your area, was finally brought back.
Typa Girl - This was a song that showcased the girls standards when it comes to having a relationship, and I liked this song alot.
Yeah Yeah Yeah - This song talks about how a silly meetup lead to a happy relationship from both sides, which is a new song style from the girls.
Hard To Love - This song talks about the insecurities a girl has when it comes to one-sided relationships, which I have only seen in english songs.
The Happiest Girl - This song revolves around another post breakup, showcasing the fact that 1 breakup isn’t the end of the world, and that they can always try again.
Tally - This is again another diss track towards their antis, showing that from this point on, they’ll do whatever, whenever and with whoever, being IDGAF to their antis.
Ready For Love - A post-breakup glowup song, in which the girl has become ready to find a new love and to write a new story.
Tumblr media
Overall, I’d rate BLACKPINK’s discography a 7/10. The reason is because while they release good songs, having only 2 full albums in a span of 7 years is pretty low for a group as big as BLACKPINK, which I feel the error falls on YG Ent. for not managing the girls properly. The girls not renewing their solo contract is complete proof of that. They got much more solo activities after being free from YG Ent, so I hope the amount of group releases increase at a steady rate, and lots of love for the girls future endeavors!

Release: May 13th, 2022
Lyrics:
You think you're such a cool kid
And everybody likes you
Now you think I'm stupid
Say you know more than I do
But what you'll never understand
Is I used to be such a fan
But now you're such a cool kid
It's like I don't even know you, yeah
I'm getting really sick
Sick of how sorry sounds
Coming right out your mouth, oh
Don't get too comfortable
'Cause I might not be there
Next time you turn around, so
What would you do if I leave and don't come back?
I hope it breaks you in two
If I gave back all the pain that you put me through
What would you do?
I've always been a nice girl
I'm pretty understanding
But you mess up my head, boy
And you're taking me for granted
And you're prolly gonna throw a fit (throw a fit)
When I call you out on all your shit (all your shit)
Yeah, I used to be a nice girl
I bet you wish it lasted, oh
I'm getting really sick
Sick of how sorry sounds
Coming right out your mouth, oh-oh
Don't get too comfortable
'Cause I might not be there
Next time you turn around, so
What would you do if I leave and don't come back?
I hope it breaks you in two
If I gave back all the pain that you put me through
What would you do?
We'll make plans and I won't show up
I won't listen, I'll interrupt
When your birthday comes, won't answer ya 'cause
So what? So what?
I'll go out and kiss your friends
Like, "Oh my god, get over it"
Yeah, go get drunk so you forget I'm gone
What would you do if I leave and don't come back?
I hope it breaks you in two (breaks you in two)
If I gave back all the pain that you put me through
What would you do?
Songwriter:
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
What would you do?
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
What would you do?
Charlie Puth / Alexander Glantz / Blake Slatkin / Tate Mcrae
SongFacts:
Canadian superstar Tate McRae releases her new single “What Would You Do?” It's the next taste of their debut album "I used to think i Could Fly" from May 27th.
The song is a delightful kiss to a former lover, where McRae decides to flip the script and seek revenge by using the same tactics she used against her. “We make plans and I won't show up / I won't listen, I'll interrupt / When your birthday comes I won't answer you because so what?” she sings.
Musically, the song mixes rock and pop, with calmer, guitar-heavy verses giving way to an upbeat, driving chorus that compels you to move.
The song was co-written by McRae with singer Charlie Puth as well as Blake Slatkin (Lil Nas X, Kid Laroi) and Alexander 23 (Olivia Rodrigo, Selena Gomez). Production duties were also handled by Slatkin, Glantz and Puth.
The song is the fourth taste of McRae's debut album, which after previous singles "feel like shit", "she's all i wanna be" and "chaotic" made me think I could fly. Due out May 27th, the album features contributions from some of the biggest names in pop music, including Charlie Puth, Finneas and Greg Kurstin, and is destined to be one of the greatest albums of 2022.
McRae will also be touring Australia for the first time ever in July this year, with tickets selling out in minutes.

What music/bands are your jam and/or make you lose your mind a little (or a lot)?
ooh, fun question! I'm partial to singles over bands, artists, and albums as a whole but I do have some grouped faves!
Bands/Artists:
Vanilla Ninja is an oldie for me, same as Selena Gomez and the Scene and Megadeath. Around college, I got into Tatsuro Yamashita, Mariya Takeuchi, Cutie Honey, Sailor Moon, and Lupin III OSTs, Starkid, SIX, Jida, Laufey, Oohyo, Twice (I like two of their songs so far), Magdalena Bay, Marc Rebillet, and Tom Cardy.
Genres:
Anything but country, lol. My faves are jazz, big band, pop, funk, (japanese) disco, (j and k) rock, classical, instrumental, and rap along with mashups/remixes/daycore/nightcore/alternative covers and versions of these flavors. I basically like a lot of music types and renditions, XD.
In terms of brainrot, it really depends on what I find next that just hits me and what my mood is, on top of what I know I can sing (bonus points). Some of my absolute top faves include:
SUPER RISER BABYYYYY (this is my feel-good performing song)
This old version of SUPERHERO (I like changing the lyrics around in my head for it to feel more dynamic and fun yeahYE)
SONIC mmmm that's some GOOD SHIT (mainly adventure 1 stuff. gah this ver is so hype)
Papercut UGH all versions are so good but i love this one
this one is still clutching me bad, y'all
An oldie that still bops
FIGHT ME
This one still HAUNTS ME but I LOVE IT
I cannot describe how much I love this song. Is this what having a spirit animal ls like? I think this is my spirit animal song...

The Evolution of Selena Gomez’s Music Career
Selena Gomez has undoubtedly become one of the most influential pop stars of the 21st century. From her early beginnings as a Disney Channel star to her meteoric rise in the music industry, Gomez's career has been nothing short of impressive. Over the years, she has built a reputation not just as an actress but also as a versatile singer, blending catchy tunes with deeply personal lyrics. In this article, we explore the journey of Selena Gomez's musical career, her chart-topping hits, and the significant milestones that have shaped her into the artist we know today.
Early Career and Breakthrough
Selena Gomez first rose to fame as the star of the popular Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, but it was her foray into music that truly showcased her talents. In 2009, she formed the band Selena Gomez & the Scene and released their debut album, Kiss & Tell. The album's hit single, "Naturally," quickly became a fan favorite and marked the beginning of her music career.
Her sound, a blend of pop, rock, and dance music, resonated with teens and young adults alike. With subsequent albums like A Year Without Rain (2010) and When the Sun Goes Down (2011), Selena solidified her place in the pop music world. Songs like "Love You Like a Love Song" and "Who Says" became anthems of self-confidence, helping Selena connect with a global audience.
Transition to a More Mature Sound
As Selena Gomez continued to evolve as an artist, so did her sound. In 2013, she released Stars Dance, which featured a more mature and edgier direction in her music. The album produced hits like “Come & Get It” and “Slow Down,” which highlighted her growth as both a singer and a performer. The incorporation of more electronic and dance elements in her music demonstrated her desire to explore new musical territories.
By 2015, Selena’s focus shifted even further with the release of Revival. The album was a pivotal moment in her career, showcasing her maturation both personally and professionally. The lead single, "Good for You," which featured rapper A$AP Rocky, was a sultry, introspective track that marked a clear departure from her earlier, more pop-focused work. With Revival, Selena Gomez embraced a blend of electropop and R&B, solidifying her place as a serious artist within the pop genre.
Personal Struggles and Growth
Throughout her career, Selena Gomez has been open about her personal struggles, including battles with anxiety, depression, and health issues. These experiences have deeply influenced her music, making her songs even more relatable to her fans. In 2017, Selena's transparency regarding her lupus diagnosis and subsequent kidney transplant led to a deeper connection with her audience.
Many of her recent songs have reflected her inner turmoil, resilience, and journey toward self-discovery. Tracks like “Lose You to Love Me,” a poignant ballad about heartbreak and self-healing, resonated deeply with fans and critics alike. The song was a commercial success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming her first chart-topping single as a solo artist. It was a testament to her growth and maturity, both as an individual and as an artist.

Selena Gomez’s music has always been characterized by its ability to blend the personal with the universal. Whether singing about love, heartbreak, or personal growth, her lyrics connect with listeners on an emotional level. Her music often deals with themes of self-love, independence, and resilience. Her voice in these areas has made her an icon not just for her music but for the way she uses her fame to make a difference.

1.
And yet, it's impossible to imagine that Swift didn't learn how to be a pop star by watching and listening to rappers. The lyrical storytelling; the meticulous attention to detail; the centering of her own perspective; the posturing; the commitment to a persona; the fixation on rivals, haters, and detractors; the positioning herself as marginalized and mistreated; the support of a crew: All of these are features of good rap. We know that Swift consumes rap. In 2011, she rapped a few lines of Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" on the radio. She's been caught singing "Dilemma" at karaoke with Nelly and has filmed herself rapping along to Kendrick Lamar's "Backseat Freestyle." Later, Lamar was featured on her 2015 single, "Bad Blood." When she presented the 2015 Video Vanguard Award to Kanye West, she mentioned that one of the first albums she ever bought was West's The College Dropout. And she came of age in an era when every pop song that mattered featured a rapper. Of the rap elements that Swift has adopted, the most recognizable might be the feud. Swift has been calling out enemies in her music for more than a decade. Her word choice may be different, her melodies gentler, but the formula is similar: Someone wrongs you, you accept the challenge, you up the ante, and eventually, you become a hardened shell of your former self.
2.
It's worth noting that the only rival who has proven the least bit sustainable for Swift is Kanye West. And it's because he's a rapper. (And crucially, because he's a male rapper.) There was no pop-star playbook for Katy Perry to look at when things started popping off between her and Swift. The story goes that in 2012, Perry hired some of Swift's backup dancers out from under her, which led Swift to write the song "Bad Blood." The video for "Bad Blood" was dripping with celebrity members of Swift's infamous "squad," including Selena Gomez in a Perry-esque wig. Besides a mealy-mouthed tweet and a few mild TV comments, Perry had no substantive way to engage Swift. In fact, when Swift comes at Perry, or a critic, or one of her ex-boyfriends, it can almost feel like bullying. Because those people aren't part of the game. They don't know the rules of a public rivalry.
3.
West, on the other hand, rises to the occasion. When he name drops Swift in a song, puts her naked likeness in a music video, goes out to dinner with her, records private conversations with her, alternates between feuding with her and praising her so much it gives you whiplash — he's playing by a well-worn rap-feud script. So is Swift. She has capitalized on that universal appeal of rap: centering the underdog, the underappreciated, the hated, the disenfranchised. She has taken this narrative and spun it on herself and those in her ilk: the young, white, wealthy and beautiful. And she has made so many of us believe it, even when doing so is an act of mental acrobatics: that she is a target, that she is treated unfairly, that she is misunderstood and people are being mean to her. And she has made us believe, by extension, that we don't have to have giant, larger-than-life rivalries to be the heroes of our own stories. A high school romance or perceived slight will do just fine.
the coexistence and overlap of parasocial (mostly white) swifties with non-black tumblr users who've never paid attention to rap beef before is......... interesting
