Fic Rec: Fan Edits/Vines as Players

I know that I haven’t posted a fic rec for a while (I work on a mega fic rec at the moment, but between school and exams I don’t have much time or energy). But I thought I would do something different right now. I don’t know if it would be the most entertaining or comfortable, however that’s the best I could manage with the limitation of this site.

In general I think that there are so many tallented people on this site, and I am a big fan of seeing what people come up with. When it comes to hockey edits I salute my hat every single time. You need to think about the perfect song, the footage to pick from, think of the nerative. So, in order to show my appriciation, and to tell you some of my too detaled thoughts about it, I present to you this fic rec.

I put a link to every one of the videos, but in order to put them all in this one long post I didn’t use reblog. I hope that you still enter the links and read what I had to say about them.

General

-When you touch me like this

What can I say, sometimes you just want to see players beating the shit out of each other while a romantic song is played in the background. Other than that, I love the disonance between the song and the vibe of it and the visual content. It crack me every time.

-Nhl as Vines

I just love how people have the time and energy to think about those sorts of compilations. There are a few good ones in here, but if I have to choose the highlight one it would be the TK/Nolan Patrick one.

-Mine

This is just plain cute and fluffy. It got a number of pairs with cute moments with the song “mine” in the background.

-Vine compilations part 2

Once again, there are some good ones in here, in the highlight I would put the Quinn Hughes one the the FCC line one.

This is also really good.

-Hockey Players being in Love with Each Other

It’s basically what the headline says.

-Yet another NHL vines

This one as well has some good stuff in it.

-I like Big Boys

This was the first ever edit about the song that I have seen. And I’ve rewatched it a thounsand of times.

-Bad Blood

This is the way to advertize the league.

-Total eclipse of the heart

I always liked bloopers reels. (when I was young they used to show those clips in so many birthday parties. Plus I really likes to laugh). And the combination of the song with the visual espect it’s just precious.

-The leagus as vines

This one has some good ones as well.

-Vines

This one has some good ones as well. But I would like to refer you to the last clip. It got such a vibe of its own. I really want to read a fic about the double night hang out of the Switzerland boys and their afore-mentioned boyfriends. I really want to read about it.

Chicago Blackhawks

-Crack Video

The highlight here I think is the John Mulaney one and the Let it Be one.

-Mean Girls

This is a perfect edit. I think that the charachtarization is accurate.

-I like big boys

I liked all the edits of this song in all of its variety.

Patrick Kane

-I want watch the world burn

As a continuation of the mean girl verse, this is from the musical. I really liked the atmosphere.

Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews

-Sabotage

I just like the song and the pictures.

-Forever Young

I think that everyone loves nostalgia and in general we like to focus on the glamorous espects of our lives. We love the glory days and not the decline afterwards. So something about this song with those two just struck me inside so much. I lost the amount of times that I would just watch this video in loops. Plus, the fact that they are the last of a certain era of the team didn’t help.

-This clock never seemed so alive

Every pairing needs a sappy montage with a cute song.

Dallas Stars

-Dallas Stars as FRIENDS

Amazing, what’s not to like about it. Friends opening sequence, but with the Dallas Stars.

-Dallas as Vines

This is seriously accurate to the core and just fun.

-Another Dallas as Vines

This is also funny as hell, and I think that the ‘watch the light Kevin’ is the most funny one.

When it comes to Dallas there were a lot of vines edits that spoke to my sole, and this one was no exception. I can literally quote the whole video now.

This one right here is one of the legendery edits of the Dallas Stars. The accuracy is just funny and hurt. I watched it so many times.

I don’t know why, but I just love all the edits about the FCC line and the power play vs. penarlty kill that just do it for me.

Daryl Reaugh

-Calls

This is an out of context greatest calls of him. There are some great ones in here, but the ‘double bennetration’ is living rent free in my mind.

-Take a hit

I just love the song along with the grittiness of the two of them. I didn’t know the song before, so it also introduce me to a great song. This playoff series was a great fun, and I enjoyed watching this edit come out of it.

The funniest part was that it wasn’t even intentional.

Tyler Seguin needs a sexy edit.

I love it when people do this sort of edit to a group with the Bo Burnham song. And she literally nailed with the discription of every single one.

There should be no reason for this song to work this good with the promotional clip.

They are funny, but the first one is just hilarious.

Claude Giroux

-Take it off my shoulders

The edit is good. But also I had to put it here, because if you read the rest of the post you will see how she posted a primer of Claude Giroux. And when I mean a primer I mean a detailed book, including pictures. about each and every stage of his career. This is unreal with how much this is good an an awsome reading. I will recommend it to everyone who is listening.

It short but it’s literally what he did.

-You’re the last of the real ones

This song just capsulate perfectly how we as fans sees him and his departure from the team. Players are humans, but sometimes we as fans see them as so much more, and we see them as those unatainable. However, at the same time they help us with ours lives. And I just think that she did such a good job with this song, and how she poposefully picked the upbit parts with the happy footage of Claude. Because that’s what it’s was all about, and he loved this team, and gave it his all.

She mentioned it in her post, but also the fact that he was the last remaining peace of the old Flyers team, made him the last one. So with him gone, it’s literally not the same Flyers team anymore. And as a relatively new fan of the sport, recently is the faze where I need to deal with this phenomenon for the fist time.

-I think I’ve seen this film before

And if the last vidoe showed the upbeat part of Claude Giroux, with this one she just hit me in the feeling. Claude went through the Flyers trading their captain, he’s been through the Flyers not knowing if they’d make a mistake to name him captain after what happend with Richards. But Claude showed them and to anyone who doubted him, how it was the right choice. And to see how it all just forgotten and they traded him regardless how he wanted to stay in this team for the rest of his career.

The lyrics that stood the most to me were “Who am I defending now?” because it showed perfectly how on one hand he capsulated this team and its image so much that when you think about the Philadelphia Flyers, you think about Claude Giroux. But on the other hand, now he no longer is part of the team. And the fact that he didn’t even have a cup to show for all those years, kind of put you on this inbetween place where you don’t know how to think about this team, this city that yo gave your life to it. That yo literally built your adult life in, and now you just need to leave and move on. Whether you want to or not.

-Don’t take the money

this one is also on the more upbeat videos, but I really like the verse with the “While we fight”. Beacuse it really shows the relathionship between Claude and management. Plus the song brings up the constant scale (that we as fans like to forger sometimes) between “This is the team, and this is how fun they are” to “Hockey is a besnuess and we need to look at the numbers, regardless of the player”.

-Nothing New

And if all the other Claude Giroux videos gave me feelings, this one is the one that made me ugly cry more times than I could count on.

This video is just amazing. It shows how the cycle is always reapiting itself, sometimes it’s abrupt and sometime it takes some time, but in the end it always repeats itself; It also show how as players grow old their place in the legue, in their team, gets questioned time and time again. Despite the fact that they could still be producing, or can have an integral part of the team. And especially when it came to Claude Giroux, it’s really showed how despite him wanting to stay, it didn’t matter. and the fact that the team as a whole had a meltdown didn’t matter, it was easy to blame it on the captain.

And on a more personal note. I didn’t heard this song before. And it wrecked me to hear it, especially the part about “How can a person know everything at 18, but nothing at 22?” I mentioned it on a different fic rec, but I enlisted to the army of my country when I was 18. And in highschool I was very optimistic about this and thought that I knew I it would go. But after I enlisted I found out it was nothing like I imagined it to be. So last year, as I literally was 22 and had to figure out my life after the worst 3 years of my llife, this song just hit me in the feelings. I know that you didn’t really sign up for this rambling, but I had to talk about it, because that’s why this edit have a special place in my heart. Because it’s not just the nerative and the emotional song that hit me.

I just really love the family dinamic in this edit. I could and have seen this video on loops on end.

-I like big boys

I really liked the twist in this edit.

Pittsburgh Penguins

-Penguins as Vines

This is the first part of the Penguins ones. All of her edits are so good.

This is just plain funny and so put together. But the careless whisper one (and the first clip) just wrecked me.

Sidney Crosby

-Compilation of Crosby’s high pitch voice

Sometimes you just need to hear a compilation of someone high pitched voice and laugh.

-Look what you made me do

This is absolutely amazing. And out of all the players I think that Sidney Crosby is the perfect example for this song. Especially for how his attitude with the media and in general changed through the years. Can’t count the amount of times I watched it.

Toronto Maple Leafs

-Learn the Alphabet

It’s just hilarious. I love out-of-context footage.

-First Time

Sometimes when the pain is strong enough, you just need to laugh about it.

Mitch Marner/Auston Matthews

-Thunder (credit to @sunshinemitch)

This video is so good. It’s the perfect song. It got the right hype to it, but also when you think about it it shows how lighning and thunder are always together and you can’t have the one without the other. And I think she showed it really well at the video, especially with the line “I was lightning before the thunder”. I also love how she showed the fact that one of them came before the other, but in general how they came at the same time.

Washington Capitals

-Caps+ John Mulaney quotes

It’s just funny, and if I had to pick the highlight I would choose the Tom Wilson part.

part of the ‘if fwb’ spinoff // simon riley x f!reader

johnny’s been… doubting, you see, about the validity of simon’s dating life.

like, for example, if he really was dating anyone.

simon looks content in a way that he never was before—intense eyes turned down towards his phone, unapproachable aura less angry but more settled, like he’s warding off people not because of his dislike but more so because he’s not available anymore.

not like he ever made himself available before, but it’s fundamentally different this time around; self-imposed walls brought down to make room for unbridled fulfillment.

he looks like he’s won the damn cup.

and that’s what makes johnny twitch—someone out there was just as, if not more, valued as the championship cup to simon, but he’s never introduced anyone to them.

not a picture nor an update nor even a PSA that they need to commission another WAG jacket for his partner because simon is tight-lipped about whoever it was he’s seeing. it’s not like he’s even dancing around the fact, it’s just that whoever it was he’s dating was never free.

not for a game nor a night-out nor a party. in simon’s house.

this level of secrecy was just unheard of. even the other men in the league who have a tight leash on their private lives still have living proof of their partners unlike simon who leaves it at, “she’s busy,” like that covers anything.

which is why johnny would like to go on record and say: he is totally valid for choosing to crash at simon’s place without letting him know.

he remembers getting wasted with the others, then refusing to be driven home, only to take a cab to simon’s place. he must have been coherent enough to remember the code for simon’s house, and was shockingly coordinated enough to even punch it in, but his memories begin to splinter there.

next thing johnny knows, he’s waking up, feeling like he’s been hit by a freight train. his tongue is heavy inside his mouth, the pungent taste of last night’s alcohol rising from the back of his throat like bile. he groans, blinking blurry eyes as he tries to remember where he’s at or what he’s done, only for nausea to wash over him so intensely he flops back down onto the bed—

he pats at the cushioning.

—onto the sofa then.

by the devil, what did he do last night? got him drinking like he’s got a new liver to replace this one he fucked with.

christ. he needs water, or a whole bottle of mouthwash, honestly.

“mactavish?”

johnny jumps, twisting his head to the side at the call of his name. it’s simon, of course it is, but he looks dishevelled, unkempt in a way that looks criminal because—johnny roves his eyes over his friend—who the hell looks that good when they’ve just woken up?

simon looks like he can be the next cover of inside fitness; give tyler fucking seguin a run for his own money.

“wha’,” is all johnny gets to say because he starts sputtering, dizziness hitting him intensely again. he gags, and only has enough mind to cover his mouth with his fist.

“jesus– down the hall. go,” simon barks and johnny warbles his thanks before locking himself in the guest bathroom.

johnny comes back out to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and melted butter wafting through. simon did say he had a problem with his kitchen vents which made cooking a problem, but johnny sure isn’t complaining right now. although, he supposes that it is a whole different problem when it’s steak or some ribs that simon’s firing up.

oh well, johnny thinks, scratching his side as he ambles to the island, pointedly quiet because simon might kick him out before breakfast is even done.

simon eyes him with a muted approval and johnny grins because, hey, he just secured free breakfast.

he’s about to break the silence, to apologize once more he guesses, when the sounds of padded feet descending from the stairs leading up to simon’s lavishly decorated—sarcasm intended—second floor pierces through the silence.

johnny’s back straightens, his exhausted mind clicking awake.

he turns to his friend but simon’s already angled towards the kitchen door, facing away from johnny. he looks relaxed, previous half-bareness now covered up with a thin white shirt, and johnny doesn’t know why he missed it but simon looks like a perfect picture of a boyfriend fixing up breakfast post-coitus.

“jesus–” johnny begins to say, the pieces linking because yeah, simon’s never denied that he’s been doing some dating around and it’s just johnny’s drunken whim to assume that the most talented ice hockey player of this decade was lying about his relationship status and—good lord, that’s a fucking person diving in simon’s arms, alright.

johnny watches, with his mouth agape, as simon and the mystery woman talk to each other in hushed whispers, his friend having to bend forward to make up for the height difference.

johnny watches, like the third-wheel he is, as simon laughs, actual quiet chuckles and not that children-crying-in-terror-inducing cackle, before nuzzling his nose over your own, and breathing you in.

johnny watches the quiet kiss, just lips pecking each other, and it’s all so soft and tender and johnny feels really, really bad that he didn’t get to give simon and his girl the privacy you two surely deserve and—

your eyes open, flitting to him because johnny is sure that he’s standing out amidst what must be a normally empty kitchen. he doesn’t even get to count three seconds before you’re screaming, lurching out of simon’s hold and hiding behind his bulk in your terror.

simon, screw him, seems to not have cared that johnny was privy to such an intimate moment and just turns enough to catch your attention again before murmuring reassurances. he says things like, “mactavish? the punk ass who got his hair shaved for the new season only to realize no one’s actually gon’ see it because of the helmet? remember?”

“what,” johnny chokes out, embarrassed that that’s what simon told you about and not, like, his player number or something.

“oh,” you gasp out anyway, clearly having heard of the shaved-sides and using it as a marker for johnny. “oh!”

you dance away from behind simon to make your way to johnny, your previous embarrassment gone from your gait. he’s so sure, though, that he’s seen you from somewhere, but the thought’s dashed out of his mind when you chirp, “you’re my best friend’s favourite player!”

“yeah?” johnny replies, gaining his confidence back.

“yeah! she won’t stop showing me the highlights of your guys’ game against that big german fella an’ his team!”

johnny laughs, his own giddiness ramping up. he remembers that game, alright. he remembers the miracle play during the final period when price was able to score an empty-netter. he remembers how, in his adrenaline-induced ecstasy, johnny turned to the player to his side, konig, and laughed in his face.

johnny made headlines then, and he’s saved every single one. his fiancee even printed a copy of her favourite shot and stuck it in her wallet.

(“for good luck,” she said with a wink, like johnny doesn’t have his prick twitching in her fist.)

“well, y’got anything for me to sign for her?”

“uhh…”

“guess you can use that one group photo our marketing team gave to us,” simon finally pipes up, and johnny turns, surprise lining his face at seeing the rich spread of breakfast.

he didn’t even notice simon setting up the table, too engrossed in the high that came from reliving the memory of laughing at konig’s face which resulted to him being pushed into the glass protector by a protective horangi.

not even that had dampened johnny’s elation then and now.

“oh yeah. thanks!” you say to simon before you run out.

you’re barely out of their eyesights when johnny turns to simon with a grin.

“what.”

“oh, you fucken’ sap!” johnny sings because he’s still too hungover to come up to simon and playfully punch him. “and why were ye hidin’ lassie?”

simon grumbles something as he turns, pretending to busy himself with the now-empty coffee pot.

“wha’s’at?”

“i said,” simon begins, heaving out a sigh. “that we jus’ became official last week.”

“oh, shit,” johnny whispers sagely. he blinks. “so, uh, who’s the one you’ve been callin’ yer girl?”

“oh fuck off johnny,” simon hisses, sputtering, before throwing the tea towel at him.

“what now!?” johnny yelps, ducking away from the soaring towel. “what’d i do now–” he gasps, realization dawning on him. “you didn’t.”

simon looked like he was going to say something but by then you were running back with the photo and a marker pen, telling him your friend’s name—alessandra, “or sandy!”—for johnny to sign.

while johnny’s busy practicing his signature on a scrap of newspaper that simon gave to him, he pretends not to hear the giggly whispers between his friend and his friend’s new but longtime-pining-for girlfriend.

“and me? why aren’t you asking f’r my signature?”

“oh ‘cuz y’r mine.”

johnny dutifully ignores the lips smacking sounds as he finally signs the picture, making sure to add devil horns on simon’s head.

serves him right.

and all 34 fics have been posted! thank you so, so much to everybody who signed up, and to everybody who posted a fic. these don't go anywhere without the people who participate, so i'm eternally grateful.

Being there when Barzy enters the ice again after returning and he's so happy to see you supporting him and overall being a very supportive girlfriend like always wearing Isles jerseys and stuff blurb

mat knew your schedule was busy, after all, your job was very demanding, so he was always very grateful if you could come to a show. but when it came to playoffs, you always made time. if that meant you had to take work home, you did.

since the first two games of the series were away, you requested to do your work remotely. after your requests were accepted, you packed your bags and were on a flight to raleigh.

you spent most of your time with mat, but when you weren't with mat, you were with the girls who came along. you were saving your big jacket reveal for the home game, so instead, you decorated your own jackets with the boys' last names and some other patches.

on the day of the first game, nerves were high for everyone. you went through your normal pregame routine. you tied his tie, straightened out his suit, and gave him his good luck kisses.

"you're gonna do so great tonight." you squeezed him tight, "i'm so proud of you."

"well, with you there, how can i do bad?" you rolled your eyes.

"whatever. i love you, now go! don't miss team lunch or else you'll get scratched."

he cracked a smile at the joke, "bye, dude."

you rolled your eyes, "bye, tyler seguin." you kissed him one last time before shoving him out of the hotel room.

you got ready with a few other girls then made your way to the arena in your homemade jackets. you had hidden it from mat so he hadn't seen the jacket yet.

you stood by the glass, waiting for warm-ups to start. while you waited you looked around and felt out of place in the sea of red and black.

the canes came out first and the arena went wild, it was deafening. the islanders came out and there was a resounding boo throughout the arena.

it took him about a lap and a half before he finally spotted you. he skated over and sprayed ice all over the glass before taking off his glass and tapping it.

you couldn't hear what he was saying, but you saw the word "jacket" come from his lips and you smiled and nodded. you did a spin so he could see all the details and all the different patches.

he gave you a thumbs-up before you both posed for pictures. you turned back to him, waved, then gave him a high five through the glass. he skated backward and waved, blowing you kisses as he went.

the game had not gone the way anyone of you wanted, but you were optimistic for the future games. you were one of the last girls waiting as all the other guys had already come and they had left with their partners.

when mat walked out, he looked dejected and you could understand. he walked over to you and dropped his stuff then wrapped you in a hug. neither of you said anything as you stood in silence. you didn't have to say anything for him to know you were proud of him.

he pulled away, grabbed your hand and you walked out of the arena, back to the comfort of your hotel room.
