Hii!! I know you aren't that into welcome home anymore, but I can't help but wonder if the Eddie and the single pea incident happened in the opposite au?

I'm still into Welcome Home, i find myself thinking about it in the same intensity it used to be, but only for a few minutes.

and... maybe :)

I talk about it a lot more over in discord! Even though I'm not super active about it here, it's easier for me to share my fleeting thoughts in the discord then on Tumblr, so there's more food in there.

For example, I've been sort of losing my mind over an Opposite version of Howdy's family. Here's a sneak peak!!

Heyyyyy buddddddddyyyyyyy- what do ya think of howdy’s family?

Well uh...give me a second to pull out the list- I currently only have a quarter of a wiggle but I can tell you what I got-

So uh, we'll start with...Hiya!

Hiya is a very sweet woman, I think she's the kindest bug I've met! I mean, other than howdy but he can be a bit pushy with his sales- plus she makes the best food I've ever tasted! And she ain't ever broke the spaghetti! Still mad at someone for doing that- not supposed to break it-

Biya is nice too but I don't know him as well, I heard he's a clumsy fellow- kind of reminds me a mailman I know!

Aunt Toodaloo is nice and all but I do t like her all too much- she keeps asking howdy when he'll sell his shop and it just irks me, really just irks me. Other than that she's a sweet Lady!

Uncle Adieu is uh....I have no clue what that man is saying!!- plus there was....the incident- no one will believe me but I swear to you he said, in perfect English, said "no one will believe you" when everyone went outside!!!-

Cousin Skedaddle is really nice! Me and him get along! We smoke cigarettes together sometimes! Other than that we uh...we don't got much in common

Oh and Seeya is just a sweetheart, really takes after her mother in that sense, she's wonderful! Absolutely wonderful! She helped me get out of a hole I accidentally dug myself into-

Beeya is great to, really great guy to just mellow out with, he is so calm all of the time! Though I wish him and Seeya wouldn't drop their kids off everywhere, but it's fine, I lover those two trouble makers! Speaking of which!

Howdo and Youdo are the funniest trouble makers I know!! I got them to prank Frank once and it was a holler!! We was on our backs laughing, it was so fun!

And than there's Gam Gam Sally Tations, I don't think she likes me very much- she hits me with the news paper Everytime I come around, I think she hates me infact- she calls me "dumb dog"-

Now, don't tell Howdy- but I did save the best for last!

Honestly Latter is my favorite out of the entire family! Sure his poems are sad and feel dreadful, but they're nicely done I think! Everyone else calls me tone deaf cause of it but I know when I like something! And I quite like Latter, he's really nice!

Hi!!! Sorry, FINALLY getting to these. Thought I'd stick them together because they both involve the same character in some way lol.

I couldn't find all that much on them bar from Tumblr, and I also haven't actually been following Welcome Home in AGES lmao, but I have some notes and some art to make up for it :D

Seeya gets big baby brain lol. For the last few months, she spends it doing the nursery, buying baby clothes, thinking up names.

Beeya's happy too, ofc, but twin pregnancy is draining and sometimes it is a bit... much

She rubs his sore back in return, so it's not all bad lol

I have the smallest crumb of a theory. But what if howdy is mean to Latter because he’s self-conscious of being the only caterpillar (and repressed) and takes it out on his brother as a consequence. Because social expectations at the time gave him an excuse to do so?

i will try to be as eloquent and articulate as possible. ahem:

THAT FRUITY ASS CATERPILLAR IS REPRESSED AS FUCK, ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? DID YOU SEE THAT SHIT?? MY GOD. HOMEBOY HAS ISSUES STACKED ON ISSUES. GET HIM SOME THERAPY.

ok. ok ok ok. Now allow me to be articulate and eloquent

so obviously Howdy is almost certainly queer in the men-loving flavor. if i'm wrong about this my confidence will never recover. But I'm Willing To Take That Chance. so he's definitely queer, right? his.. well his everything points to it, but the final nail in the coffin are his rainbow suspenders from the group Homewarming artwork from Eddie's prolonged breakdown.

but this update i think showed us deeper into that part of him. and i take the shipping goggles off for genuine analysis, so when i say this i believe that there is Serious Evidence and seems Genuinely Plausible - if Howdy doesn't have feelings for Barnaby, i'll eat my cat.

the above is important to say because it Directly ties in to how Howdy treats Latter AND Eddie.

so. Howdy is likely gay or bi, what have you. i'm guessing gay. he obviously has feelings for Barnaby. SO WHAT I'M SAYING IS that i don't think Howdy treats Latter the way he does because of the caterpillar thing, I think Howdy treats Latter the way he does because Latter is genuine and Howdy is not.

what does this have to do with Eddie? well. look at Latter and Eddie in relation to each other. they're both... how do i say... Open. and not - not effeminate, but yes, for lack of of a better word, effeminate. just enough to make one go "huh." and Howdy treats them the same way - dismissive, apathetic, one could even say avoidant.

i wouldn't be shocked if Howdy picked up on their queerness (and if Latter isn't queer, his comfort with himself / his behavior & interests) and is on the defensive about it - likely subconsciously.

and with Latter specifically. Howdy could have also picked up on the way his other family members treat him if they're all also dismissive - as Seeya seems to be as well. i mean, it fits right in line with the time period! homophobia - internalized in Howdy's case (again, most likely). the blatant favoritism, the dismissive nature, it all adds up. even if no one outright knows, that subconscious recognition (or outright suspicion!) will do this

i mean, Latter makes me think of two things. 1) being the only queer kid in a family (especially large). 2) being a middle child. there was a third but i forgor. it felt important! it's gone now! anyway it's also Super telling comparing how Howdy treats Latter (emotional, earnest, open) to how he treats Beeya (oozing stereotypical masculinity)

tl;dr so i don't think it's really "expectations giving Howdy an excuse" as it is "subconscious / internalized homophobia causes Howdy to act the way he does"

They all adore the little tykes!!! They joke how Howdy has finally started to relax and found himself two good men to settle down with hehe-

Hiya is your average doting grandma, she’s so happy to have two more grandkids to spoil - Howdo and Youdo also have some playmates!! Seeya and Beeya are the main two who babysit them but Latter gets to have a go looking after them too (even letting them stay at his place when they’re older and looking for work)

Though I will say they showed some concern regarding Peony being human once, since humans are much different than puppets but Gamgam is there to soothe their worries since she knows he can handle it

And we'll start with Families!

Wally and Barnaby, ofc, were adopted by Home when they were younger. He's a single parent who is very supportive of his boys' summer endeavors

Julie lives with her three older siblings! Franny is the only one still in high school. Bea and Jonesy have jobs. Oh her and Frank are still besties! Mostly when Julie goes over to Wally's she's got Frank with her

Frank's got both his parents, his dad is Brazilian and his mom is American. His parents are great (especially his dad, an absolute sweety) no one knows why this kid is such a grump lol. Also Julie is over a lot for sleepovers.

Eddie has a single mom. This kid is such a Mama's boy I can imagine him mentioning her at least once every "episode." She's a great southern mom but can come off as intimidating at times (it's the Mama Bear energy)

Sally has parents but they're irrelevant mostly. She's on her own a lot bc they work pretty much all the time.

Poppy also has parents but they're probably seen once lol. They maybe sheltered her a little too much as a kid and is trying to make up for it by "getting her out there" this summer. Speaking of,,

My brain Exploded when you said Poppy was the kid's babysitter! Her parents def shoved her into it when they were talking to Home about how he needed a sitter.

How I think it goes is Home leaves, leaving Poppy in charge. The gang arrives, and Wally says the iconic "I know what we're going to do today" (order varies) and then Sally shows up. She says hi to Poppy real quick before trying to stop the kids or bust them. Poppy leaves, mentally leaving Sally in charge bc she trusts her to keep the kids safe. So on and so forth!

Ok few more things, how the kids feel about Sally!

Wally is neutral, doesn't understand what she's on about but doesn't mind.

Barnaby thinks her attempts to bust them are hilarious and is constantly poking fun at her.

Frank has beef and sticks his tongue out/blows raspberries at her whenever she tells them to stop doing something.

Julie thinks she's cool and tries to get her to have fun. She's usually the one to drag Sally into their shenanigans where she'll enjoy herself.

Eddie is scared of her. He finds her intimidating and loud and is scared she's gonna get him trouble with his mama.

Overall none of them actively hate her. they're just kids and she's a teen trying to rain on their parade.

Gah ok one more for Howdy

My guy has no "real" trauma. his childhood was fine, he doesn't get along with most his family but that's bc he's a prick. He takes Every Minor Inconvenience and makes it sound tragic like the dramatic worm he is.

He really only gets along with his nephews, Seeya, and his Aunt Toodaloo. Oh and Beeya's the mayor... yeah Howdy doesn't like him but still favors him more over Latter. Toodaloo sends him money that helps fund his schemes, but he's also got investment stocks n such.

His cockiness is his downfall. he's so confident his inventions will work but it always blows up his face (literally). He's incompetent but if he actually took things more seriously then he'd be a genuine threat.
