Heya! I was thinking of making my own comic, and I was curious what app you used to make comics, and if you had any tips.

It has been asked, but not in quite a while, so no worries ^^

I used to use photoshop, but it was an old version that stopped working when i got my newest computer, so I've switched to using clip studio paint. it works pretty much the same, so very little of my workflow had to change, which was nice.

i'm sure most other art programs out there would work just as well though; about the most specialized things i use in clip are some of the brushes--i don't even touch any of the tools that are supposed to help with making comics specifically XD

edit: oops, i forgot to answer the bit about tips for making comics

first off, start small. unexpected guests is not my first comic, and what i learned from past--even failed--attempts has helped me get as far as i have. doing a few short comics will help you get a sense for how to block out panels, how long it takes to draw a page, and how it feels to draw the same characters all the time. Project management is a whole other skillset, but it's important to learn if you want to take on bigger works.

I also recommend studying your favorite comics to understand how they achieved what you like about them. I've mentioned before how the manga Fullmetal Alchemist has been a huge inspiration for much of my work, and sometimes when I'm stuck I'll revisit it to see how its author handled action, how she paced scenes by changing the paneling layout, and so on.

these are far from the only things to know about making comics, but they're the tips that first jumped to my mind, so i hope they help at least a little ^^;

-Jumalanpelko (eng. the fear of god) is reboot of my old old comic and will be my stress relief comic. My guess is that I will be super active, then go quiet here and then just pop up again once i feel like it.

-Comic will be kinda episodic and interactive taking a lot of inspiration from my fav clangen comics (like @fallenclan @loudclan-clangen @circus-clangen and @aphidclan-clangen , pls follow them, amazing stuff, so many cats!) Im just here to have fun and I want to focus more on that and less on writing a clear story. I have the main plot planned but i will tell the story with mini comics and by answering questions ect. We will see how things go!

Ask Guidelines

For the sake of streamlining my inbox, please follow the guidelines below when submitting Asks. I appreciate all your questions, but I simply find that I lack enough free time to spend with them. Some weeks are busier than others for my inbox, but I personally feel it's a bit unfair to those of you who may be waiting a long time for a response. Plus, I do need some "me" time now and again, no matter how much I love sailing around on here.

*UPDATED 12/22/24

Reaction/Response-style Asks must remain paired down. These are lots of fun for all of us, but they take up a majority of the time I spend on the inbox. When you submit a request like this, please only specify up to 2 characters (ROs, side characters, etc…) you want to know the answer for (I will throw in some or all of the other characters if I have time and/or can answer quickly). If you do not specify, I will pick for you based on how quickly I can answer.

Please do not submit multiple Asks with the same question for the other characters. This will just eat up my time, and I do not want to delete them, but I will have to.

If your question has been asked before, I will try to find a link to it for you (most of these I have tracked in a document so it doesn't take long). I haven't yet put together an FAQ since I really don't get a ton of repeats for the same questions. One day, I may make a searchable document with them.

*NEW* "Spoiler" Asks. I am trying my hardest to limit spoilers for readers. Some things are going to spill with the nature of a work like this, but I want to keep that to a minimum. This is for the benefit of old readers who still want to experience things in-story and for the new who may have recently started following.

It is still okay to send these questions in – and theories too! I love seeing where your head is at on events and where you think it may be going. I just may not be able to answer certain things and in some cases, I may not be able to post a response. It just really depends on the content.

I will make determinations on these on a question-by-question basis. Sometimes the question itself contains a spoiler (even if it's just a name) that might affect a new reader's experience.

I will make tags to warn when I answer things that may have info others don't want to see.

I'm going to try something new to get the best of both worlds in this. I will compile these asks and make one big new post to address them every so often (weekly/monthly). This will enable me to fully control what is immediately viewable. I will tag up and note what potential spoilers will be on these so you know if it's safe to click to read more. The downside is that my Anonymous Askers won't get notified and will need to watch for this post. Because of this, I may work out a proper schedule to drop these.

Comments are still very much welcomed. If you by chance do not want a response posted, please simply let me know if that is what you prefer. I generally like to post at least a little response to these for you, but if that makes you uncomfortable, please let me know in the Ask.

Music suggestions are welcome (for instance if a song makes you think of a particular character).

Art suggestions are welcome (if an art piece makes you think of a character and such).

Story theories are welcome too!

Error Reports are still welcome with some guidelines.

Game-breaking errors of course are super appreciated so I can address these ASAP.

Coding mishaps (you can see code in the text or something is clearly not coded correctly) can go either to the Asks or to the Google Form, but the Google Form is preferred due to frequent repeats to the Inbox. Reports on Tumblr are tagged as "gc whoopsies" so you can check if the issue you found has already been addressed here.

Typos and grammar issues – please send these in using the Google form linked in the game and on the pinned post. It's been handy getting these in my inbox since I can fix them right away in my main Twine file, but there are a lot of errors in GC, and they're going to fill my inbox and I have no control over repeats.

Asks that are long/wordy are still okay, as long as they meet the other Ask criteria. I don't mind reading a lot since I can still do that fairly fast (and I totally understand the need for context or if you have several comments to make). I can be wordy myself, so I get it, sometimes you just want those details in there. You may not get a super long response in return, but I read every word.

Try to space out your Asks in general. I will leave this to your discretion and trust that you to not submit several in a short window of time.

NSFW Asks are totally okay with me. There is not much outside of my comfort zone. If something is too far, in my opinion, for a public response - I will simply delete it and pop a courtesy post out to try and signal to you that it is one I cannot answer.

I was hoping to avoid placing any rules on my inbox, but I never anticipated this many followers or that anyone would have quite so many questions or comments about my work. This is to ensure that I keep myself controlled more so than any of you. I have so much fun chatting with you and answering questions, that the IF writing and planning ends up delayed. Since that's why we're here, I need most of my free time to go to the IF(s) and any extras.

I will make updates to this post as needed. There will be a link to at the very end of the Pinned Post too. If the inbox gets a bit crazy or is too much to juggle during crunch times, I will continue to pause it during those so I can catch up.

Ruggie would absolutely do it for money though, and I like to think that they have some kind of mutually beneficial relationships in this aspect of life as well. Maybe sometimes Ruggie helps him to jerk off or just fucks him, but while he doesn’t get compensated for that right then and there with money, there are some other benefits that he obtains for doing such an important job.

Floyd’s tropical wear groovy shows areola but not actual nipples. The same is true for Lilia. We don’t see Azul’s chest in his tropical wear art, but in his overblot form we see no nipples or areola. The same is true for his merform in book 7. The same is true of the twins merforms. So the fae have fake nipples, areola, and breast. For the mer, their transformation potions give them areola but not nipples and they have neither in they’re true for.

Malleus and Meleanor, since their initial appearance seems to be of a dragon, probably have to use magic to transform into humans… I guess it’s safe to say that they just pick whether they want to have boobs/nipples or not lol So that tracks.

But also there are a lot of different kinds of fae though, technically dwarves are also fae, so maybe there are some mammalian fae? And Lilia, being a bat, once again, has nipples…

Sebek probably has nipples, but if fae of his kind normally don’t, he probably has a lot of opinions about having them lol

Kifaji is confusing; we haven’t properly seen him in an event yet because we haven’t watched that one (as if it would mention Kifaji’s nipples LOL). But I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t have those?? But that would probably also mean that he has a cloaca, do what you will with that information.

We do have all the information needed for merpeople though!! It’s pretty much like you said; I don’t think they have any nipples normally; aside from our boys, some random npc mermen didn’t have any either. But since the octatrio transforms with a potion, they do have them because it changes their appearance to match the humans’ perfectly. Some things about their physique is different, i.e. Azul probably still having the strengths of his octopus muscles, Jade not feeling cold, but appearance-wise they are 100% two-legged human, hence the nipples. So yeah, I’m not sure if Floyd had only areola and not the nipples on that card… it’s an interesting thing to headcanon, but I think it’s just a case of them not wanting to draw very detailed nipples to keep age ratings low lol Ace’s look the same.

You know what’s amazing? Yana 100% has thoughts about every single one of these topics.

Unfortunately, I am not really someone to usually have songs associated with ships, as I listen to the same bunch of songs over and over throughout my entire life… But one of the songs that comes to mind is Tenohira by Mr.Children, mostly because this is the song from the “Spitting while Kissing” (キスをしながら唾を吐け) meme, the one where a couple fights viciously despite having feelings for each other lol Oh look, someone made a FloRid version of it!! Perfect.

The lyrics are somewhat more sentimental, but if you squint…

SO HERE'S THE DEAL: I do not want to make anyone have to pay to see my art.

Let's be real: there are like fifty bajillion other, more skilled, and better-known artists on Patreon putting out more detailed, more unique, more in-demand, and just more art than I am (or want to). I'm a self-taught, frequently distracted amateur who's had an iPad for a year. I'm not gonna pretend that I am going to be able to pull in more Patreon subs-- or keep them, for that matter-- on the strength of my random doodles alone. I have never really thought or even hoped that I could do that, because it would mean Doing Art As A Job, and I absolutely do not want to associate "drawing" with "work." (I also don't have the means, time, motivation or experience to self-promote and/or keep a small community of followers entertained, and even the thought of having to do all that on top of having to Draw For Work is terrifying.) There's the self esteem-destroying gutpunch that someone with BPD (me haha!) receives when they ask if something they created is "worth" a certain amount and are answered with silence. (If you have BPD, you know that 'silence' is so much worse than 'no.') I don't think that anyone is actually saying my work is worthless any more than I think stairs were invented to fuck over people with bad knees, but I want to avoid one for the same reason I avoid the other: hurts and bad for healing. And also, maybe most importantly, most of the fans of my work are my friends, and most of my friends are poor people. I do not ever want someone to have to choose between "Eggman weeping as he cradles a slain Speedy Gonzales" and "rent." Lots of people I know just don't have any money to spare even for professionally made entertainment, or, like me, sometimes they have money (yay, beginning of the month!) and sometimes they don't (booo, end of the month). I'm not gonna put a paywall between my friends and my art. So, as always, you can view all of my art on Patreon for free, without an account*. (*you will have to have an account to view NSFW stuff but this will be in the 'free' tier as well.) H O W E V E R. You guys I am so fucking poor. If you follow my blog you know the whole story already-- mental illness, chronic illness, chronic mental illness, surprise rescue puppies, surprise fines from the city, the fukken recently concussed clown show that is social services in my area-- and you've seen me having to crowdfund for everything from food to gas to dog emergencies. We budget down to the cent and have cut out so many things (like the meal replacement shakes for my eating disorder lol) and we're still not making ends meet. I've got friends who help, and they help a lot, but I hate the miserable, humiliating task of asking for help every single month. (You guys also know that I don't have family that can help me, even if shit goes critical. I was on my own while I was a homeless sex worker, on my own when we lived in a shed with no windows, on my own when we were in a house with no heat and only one source of running water, and definitely on my own now, in desperate need of mobility aids, house cleaners, and a god damn break.)

So here's where I'm at: I can't ask a few people for a lot of support, but I can ask a bunch of people for a little bit. [Silas, Briar and Dotty are my own cult of the lamb ocs! Here are a few things about them:

☾ Briar (She/Her) : A rescue from Anura, she was found by the lamb along with Dotty in the ruins of their old village.

Briar is diligent and good at keeping things in order, but she struggles with properly communicating and sympathizing with others, so she can often come off as blunt and insensitive. Due to this, she has learned to mostly keep her thoughts to herself. Despite that, having a strong sense of justice and not a lot of patience means that she often gets into arguments with other cultists (But she's working on it!!)

She enjoys working in the lumberyards and building

Likes: Painting, Anything pumpkin-flavored, Rain, Napping, Woodcarving, Watching the sunrise, Stuffed animals, Jewelry, Carpentry, Dotty.

Misc info: Tries to avoid conflict (fails). Prefers to stay indoors. She just wants some peace and quiet frfr. Has a terrible case of RBF. Perfectionist?? kinda. Dotty is cheerful, energetic and optimistic (Or, at least she tries to be). She can be a bit of a pushover, since her worst fear is making someone mad at her. She always tries to see the best in people, which can sometimes make her seem gullible as she has a hard time believing people may have ill intentions. Dotty also has a tendency to ramble, and talk a lot about nothing.

She does a little bit of everything around the cult, but farming is where she's most comfortable.

✦ Silas (He/him) : A rescue from Darkwood, he was found as he was about to be sacrificed in Leshy's name. After his rescue he swore to devote himself to the lamb for the rest of his days, yet he was the first to dissent when faith got too low.

When Silas first arrived at the cult, he seemed eager to do everything he could to appease his leader. He was always one of the first to pray at the shrine, to water the crops and to clean up the vomit of a sick follower. Nothing seemed to distract him from his faithfulness and devotion, however, as time went on that dedication seemed to dwindle. Perhaps he got far too comfortable with his title as a disciple.

Nowadays, Silas can often be uncooperative, especially when it comes to doing any kind of laborious task around the cult. You wouldn't want him to risk breaking a nail, would you? He can often come off as arrogant (because he is) if you aren't someone he's particularly interested in.

Silas does not like being rushed, he does everything in his own time, at his own pace. When he does decide to work, it's either cooking, praying, or refining materials. He was banned from working at the drinkhouse because he kept taking the drinks for himself. He also enjoys making patterns for clothing at the tailors.

Likes: Formal clothing, Journaling, Tea, Writing, Scented candles, Silver jewelry, Fountain pens, Red wine, Cigarettes, Sewing.

Misc info: Manwhore, terrified of commitment. Chronically jealous. Calls himself a "hopeless romantic" but his standards are too high to actually date anyone. He'll tell you that he likes old literature but if you ask for recommendations he won't have any. Acts confident but is actually rlly insecure. Knows how to play chess, but he sucks at it. Cares a lot about his appearance. He loves compliments, compliment him, please! He's begging for it!

Had a younger brother named Mylo (which he asked the lamb to rescue not long after joining himself) they drifted apart soon after he became a disciple.

Welcome to The Wind’s Track AU!

A lot of people have been stopping by to check this AU out, so I thought now was a good time to make a pinned post for this.

What is this AU?

This is a Legend of Zelda AU in which Link, the Hero of Winds from Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass (nicknamed Wind in this AU), sticks around New Hyrule as a spirit after his life has reached its conclusion.

During his wanderings as a spirit one day, he went to check on his old pal Niko to find that Niko had taken in a baby named Link (nicknamed Spirit in this AU) whom he found washed ashore. This baby will eventually grow up to be the Hero of Spirits from Spirit Tracks. Wind is surprised at the matching name and almost identical appearance, but even more surprising than all of that is that this kid has the ability to see and hear him.

Basically, the ghost of the Hero of Winds helps raise the Hero of Spirits.

A: No. While Linked Universe is a wonderful AU, the Wind’s Track is its own, separate AU. The events of Linked Universe DO NOT and NEVER WILL HAPPEN in the ��canon” of this AU. If you would like to see a little more of my thoughts on that, please view this post.

Q: Is there an official fic for this AU?

A: Unfortunately, no. I am not a confident writer. I have an Ao3 account (Lindseybot), but I never post fics on it. I, instead, use it to subscribe, leave kudos, leave comments, etc. I occasionally post little comics of the AU here on Tumblr, however.

Q: Will there be a full comic then?

A: As of now, I do not have any plans to do that. Not only is this AU still very early in development, but that would take a LONG time. With my current schedule being the way it is, it just wouldn't be feasible. Still, never say never. You never know what the future may hold. As of now, I plan to just occasionally post mini comics and art pieces that take place at any random point in the timeline of the AU.

Since our yesterday's post has opened a conversation about delinquent Deuce and you want some thoughts/headcanons, let's talk about it!

To answer the second Anon while we’re at it, I think Deuce used to have his tongue and his ears pierced. The tongue one Deuce did to impress his senpai, and it was exactly that senpai who poked a hole in his tongue. It wasn’t all that professional or sanitary, it happened behind some combini store, so Deuce was super nervous, but senpai did a surprisingly good job so Deuce didn’t even catch any infections. Deuce still remembers the tingles and the adrenalin he felt while trying to stand still while the guy that he respects a lot handled his tongue.

The other guys actually did ask him if he was going to have his nipples pierced, but Deuce got defensive and kinda mad about it and refused. In actuality he was embarrassed and kind of scared that it’d hurt a lot more than his previous piercings… So he didn’t end up doing it. Ace however, when he learned that Deuce used to have piercings (yep he felt it on his tongue), immediately asked if he had anything done with his nipples. He said is as a joke just to tease Deuce, but Deuce looked at him so seriously, in a “who told you?” way.

Deuce also almost got his shoulder blade tattooed; he was anxious about it but wanted to do it quite badly to spite everyone in the world. But then that situation with his mom happened, and Deuce’s attitude towards his own life changed overnight, so he ended up not getting that tattoo. The guys from his gang probably thought that he chickened out.

Delinquent Deuce used to be especially mad at teachers and straight-A students; to him it always felt like they were mad at him for existing and mocking him for being stupid, so he lashed out at them a lot. Sometimes he got so mean and wicked that even his senpais were impressed. This is actually a reason why despite not being the oldest, Deuce kind of had his own minions who respected him: the guy was a legend lol it was very bad. But he did respect his senpais..! They taught him how to drink and smoke!

Yeah, Deuce used to drink and smoke. He didn’t really like it, but he got used to the taste rather quickly. And yes, he did finish other people’s cigs and let others drink his beer. They didn’t mind sharing at all, so Deuce indirectly kissed a lot of guys lol … but he also kissed some of them directly when he got drunk.

I can actually see two routes when it comes to Deuce and all the boykissing stuff that occurred during his wilder years. One way to look at it would be to assume that Deuce, while being aggressive and constantly angry, is still our naïve and oblivious Deuce, who doesn’t necessarily think much about these things, but gets pressured into making out when he gets drunk. He might even get carried away and end up letting the other guys touch him/touching them in return, but it would be the result of Deuce not thinking/being drunk/being kind of taken advantage of. In that case, Deuce might not even consider this something serious these days…

Another way to look at it would assume that Deuce’s sexual awakening occurred during his rebel phase, so he ended up being quite active with the guys he was surrounded by. Of course, he’d still have sloppy drunk makeout sessions, but they would feel more intentional and probably driven by his desire to just piss the world off. Plus, Deuce is very eager to be good at _something_, and this could be that _something_ that Deuce gets praised for doing by his senpais. Both scenarios could work depending on how you look at it I guess lol

To Ace, Deuce’s delinquent years’ stories feel like pulling a never-ending scarf out of the magician’s hat: whenever Ace feels like he has heard all the shocking details, Deuce suddenly blushes and reveals something else. And the shock on Ace’s face makes Deuce even more embarrassed. Ace, however, kind both amazed (wow, another excuse to tease Deuce!), pissed (no way, you’ve done this too?!) and turned on (…).

Also, bit unrelated, but seriously, how the fuck do you write so well? It’s like magic/witchcraft, and I mean that in a very complimentary way (hope it’s not strange, but same anon who left the long compliment message. Just for context, hope that’s not annoying). Feel free to ignore this bottom part but do you have any tips/advice for writing? Always wanted to but never knew how to start.

I apologize for not being very quick at answering, I'm very lazy and not always online. But I have seen and read all your asks from the first one and appreciate them so much. <3 If you want, you can give yourself an anon nickname - for example, someone sends me the occasional anonymous ask with a strawberry emoji at the end, so I know it's the same person!

And oh gosh...I'm so flattered that you like my writing?? I don't consider myself particularly good but I enjoy it a lot and am at least happy enough with things to share them. One cool thing about this community is how responsive people are to the work they enjoy, for any writer or artist or creator that is such a gift!

So, it's worth mentioning that I minored in writing in college. I mention that because it contributed to my personal experience with writing but in no way do I think someone needs to formally study to become a good writer, nor does formal study guarantee being one.

Also, I didn't go into any jobs that involve writing, it has remained just a hobby, and I'm fine with that. I strongly believe that creating and enjoying art is for everyone regardless of skill level and without being expected to monetize it or gain popularity. We are so lucky to be able to read, write, draw, paint, etc, when through much of human history, and still in parts of the world, those things were only available to a privileged few. Now I can write and doodle in a cheap shitty Dollar Tree notebook if I want to and no one can stop me.

I don't feel qualified to give too much advice, but I can at least share some things that have worked for me. And I encourage other writers who see this to do the same!

Read. The more you read, and the more variety especially, the more you will pick up. The idea of course isn't to copy other people's work but to get a feel for different styles, learn new words and phrases, be inspired. My love of writing started with reading.

Practice. This is the most boring answer but also unfortunately the most important. Sometimes you just gotta do the thing to get better at the thing.

Daydream. This isn't for everyone, but I have always had an active imagination. As long as I can remember I would imagine little scenarios in my head, sometimes over and over to try out different versions of them or add details. Writing can just be having little stories in your head that you feel compelled to put down, and doing so can be really rewarding whether you share them or not.

Outline. This is pretty basic, I just love to outline. It doesn't have to be a fancy formatted one, just jot down the key points of the thing you want to write, in order. Then fill it out with notes, phrases, any other ideas you have. None of this has to be fleshed out, it's just to organize your thoughts.

Drafts are good, actually. Have a first draft and a second and a third if you need to. Move things around, delete, rewrite, reword, whatever. Nothing has to be perfect the first time through, sometimes it's nice to just let the words flow and figure out the details later.

Learn the rules so you can break them. Even if you don't take writing in school, there are lots of ways to study basic grammar, punctuation, writing tools like metaphors and similes and all that. The point isn't to write like a robot, it is to have a solid foundation on which to build your creativity. Lots of pretty words are pointless if the reader can't understand what you're trying to communicate. And once you know the 'rules', you can intentionally bend and break them to create a desired effect and develop a personal style.

And finally,

WRITE WHAT YOU WANT.

It's a phrase that gets thrown around a lot, and I'm glad because it's true but saying it and getting it are two different things. If you're writing as a hobby, it's meant to be enjoyed. Write things you would want to read. Write the things that feel right to you. Write things that help you express something. Write things that challenge you in a positive way, or write things that are comforting and simple, as long as it's coming from within you.

And if you aren't feeling it, it's ok to just...stop. Or at least pause. I am still learning that I don't have to force myself to write just because I think someone is expecting it, I don't have to fill a prompt that doesn't interest me just because I feel bad if I don't. I have piles of unfinished word docs and google docs and tumblr drafts that will never get finished and that is OK. Give yourself permission for that to be OK. When you let go of the projects that feel like a slog you give more space for the projects that spark joy!

Anyway, I hope any of this is helpful. However you do it, I hope you will create something!
