What’s shakin’?

So here’s a little heads up with my dancing. I’ll post in more detail on each item as we go along but here’s the general overview. (Big thanks to sarahfigure8dancer for prompting me to start journaling!)

My practice: I currently take a lot of classes but there aren’t any true vintage orientale sessions where I live* (it’s all either tribal or very contemporary-Egyptian-influenced cabaret) and I’m obsessed with it, so I’ve been doing Sedona Soulfire’s Goldmine classes on Datura Online. I’m also practicing any zilling I possibly can, with videos on Datura and both of Ansuya’s excellent finger cymbal DVDs. I also take Jamila Salimpour classes online.

My classes each week: 4 sessions raks sharki, 1 session ATS, 1 session ITS (Gypsy Caravan)

Cross-training: walking my puppy, Essentrics or Classical Stretch, Fit & Bendy

Choreography: working on 1970s-style choreo to Omar Khorshid’s “Enta Omri” for a studio performance later in the year

Upcoming events: performing with three of my classes at our local Renaissance festival next month

*Although I’d like to teach vintage orientale some day! That’s my big big belly dance goal, guys!
