#WeAreAnusara - Day 2 - #SecondPrinciple #MuscularEnergy ... Muscular Energy is the contractive force of the yoga practice. It always moves inward. It stabilizes and strengthens poses. It keeps everything together. It keeps us safe. Muscular Energy draws inward in three ways: (1) Skin to muscle to bone. I call this “Compressive Muscular Energy”. A good example would be when you pull the skin of your belly into your abdominals and your abs in towards your spine. Or when you draw the skin to muscle to bone around your knee to stabilize it. (2) Lateral to medial, like when you isometrically squeeze your arms or legs towards the midline of a pose. (3) Periphery to core. Every pose has a focal point. Muscular Energy moves from the periphery of the pose to the focal point. I’ll write more about focal points in a separate post. ... In #ekapadabakasana #oneleggedcrowpose, I set the foundation and open to Grace. I keep that and then hug skin to muscle to bone in my entire body. Not enough to be tense, but enough to be strong and stable. I also focus on squeezing the midline with my forearms and legs. This gives me the power to float in this challenging pose! ... Please check in with my co-hosts, Anusara Yoga Teachers, @ej_merlin and @sunandmoon_asana for their poses and thoughts on Muscular Energy! ... #somosanusara #yogapose #yogateacher #yogastrong #yogamuscles #yogafit #yogainspiration #inspiredyoga #yogamotivation #yogaskills #strengthisaskill #yogamen #yogadude #yogafun #yogachallenge (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BmKp_GonXIc/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1kd8juwpdzou5

#WeAreAnusara - Day 2 - #SecondPrinciple #MuscularEnergy #PeripheryToCore ... Muscular Energy energy flows (1) from the surface of the body to the core lines, (2) from lateral to medial, and (3) from the periphery to the active “focal point.” There are three possible focal points: (1) the core of the pelvis, (2) the bottom of the heart, and (3) the center of the upper palette. The active focal point is the one closest to the most weight bearing part of the pose. In general, the active focal point in standing and seated poses is the core of the pelvis. In arm balances and handstands, the active focal point is the bottom of the heart. The only poses that have the upper palette (center of the roof of the mouth) as the active focal point are poses where the head is in contact with the floor (headstand, bridge pose, shoulder stand, etc) and the other two possible focal points are lifted. ... In #crescentlunge, I consciously draw the Muscular Energy from my feet up my legs and into the core of my pelvis. From my hands and the top of my head, I draw the energy down my arms, down my torso, and into the core of my pelvis. I am quite literally pulling everything together to the center of my hips, actively engaging the muscles and making my pose stronger, more stable, safer, more confident, and more courageous. I imagine that I am drawing upon the power of the Universe at the periphery of my existence into the core of my being. ... #somosanusara #warrior1 #lungepose #yogapose #yogateacher #anusarayoga #anusarayogateacher #yogastudent #anusara #bringinganusaraback #yogastrong #yogamuscles #strengthisaskill #yogafit #yogaskill #yogaguy #yogafun (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BmMJOiOnpcb/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1sz6tzk7t9nx0
