#Season 1 and 2 Mickey hold a special place in my heart

Today I have done a lot of thinking about fictional charachters because...well my day has beeen horrible and its been better than thinking about that.
I saw a clip of shameless S1 where Mickey is dirty and unclean and I remember how a lot of people have said maybe he didn't really care until Ian came along or started to try for Ian. And sure, that may be part of it, but in my experience, there are so many other reasons people are unclean for, and I think a few would apply to Mickey.
1. I think part of the reasons he is reguarly covered in dirt is that being dirty tends to hide or blend in bruises. It is not going to work completely but enough to make people wonder if that is dirt or a bruise, or if they are seeing it properly. I imagine Terry wasn't light handed in beatings, and the kids were expected to cover for it. While teenage Mickey could say he was in a fight younger Mickey would have easily used that just some days old dirt excuse.
2. Lack of hot water or just water in his house. I don't think paying the bills on time was high on Terry's list either, and we know the house was basically a dump. It wouldnt surprise me if they reguarly had no hot water or if they did it run out quickly with the old water heater and you did not want to be the one causing Terry to have a cold shower. Or he saved the hot water for Mandy because he knows she actually really cares about her appearance and being clean
3. As a reason not to have to be with girls. In his first episode, Karen mentions that maybe Mickey is coming to find her to ask her out again and then says basically says along the lines of "I wouldn't because he smells like shit.' Being unclean and dirty means girls are less likely to want to go out with him, so he can ask the girls who he knows will say no then have it be that they are a b***ch who said no, or she don't know what she missing. He comes out of looking like her really doesn't care he got turned down but still leaves the impression his into girls. It is like a protective layer
4. I think caring about your appearance and the way you're dressed is something Mickey's dad would find pansy. Which Ugh, Terry is the worst.
5. I don't think some people really understand how vulnerable being naked in a place you dont feel safe in is. I feel like if Terry is mad, drunk, or just desires it, he would be more than happy to come for you. Being naked and unprepared is not a fun thought. So Mickey saves his showers for when he is sure his alone becauze like hell he is trusting that flimsy lock on the door (if there even is one cause Svetlana just walks in with a hammer on Ian)
Sure maybe once Ian comes along that is more incentive to be clean and presentable but I think he really starts to be clean is season 4 onwards where he knows and admits how much Ian means to him and that he loves him, no longer has go pretend to be into girls (his out or he has the excuse of his married) but also when his dad is in jail and maybe the bills are getting paid, maybe he feels safer in the house.
I just hate the common thinking of, that person is unclean because they don't care. That is rarely the real reason in my experience.

I'm so very late, but I got tagged by Evie @energievie (hi, neighbor!🤪),💙 Nosho @creepkinginc💙 and Jess @jrooc 💙 to answer some of these wonderful Gallavich- related questions by @callivich, so imma dive in!
0-0-0-0-0-0-0
What’s a fic you’ve read more than once? So many. Africa by @ian-galagher, Paragraphs, Restoration and Life, or Something by @palepinkgoat, Anyways... and Here and There by NotAWriterButITry, Lost Lullabies and Silent as Sunlight by @wellimhavinga3outof10day .... Oh, yeah so many 😂 I like repetition. But also these are so good.
What’s an idea you’d love to create if you had the time/inspiration? A lot of drawings. My skills are VERY rusty, but who knows. Maybe one day. Also a ton of fic ideas. I have many, many plots in my head. However, I need to finish my current WIP before I start any bigger projects ✍
What’s something you’ve discovered since entering this fandom? A new trope you love? A different analysis of the show? Something else? A very open and loving community I've rarely seen before. So many creative people, so many different interpretations. I love it here.
What’s an underrated trope or concept you’d like to see more of? I'm obsessed with trans!Mickey stories and I love any kind of content that works around/with both Ian's and Mickey's traumas. Let it be AU, different meeting, canon- compliant trauma from each other, etc. Anything. (I'm a big fan of healing through creativity, can you tell?)
What’s your favourite season? And has this changed after multiple rewatches of the show? I can never point at one season and say it's my favorite. I love all (even the weaker ones, I just like getting through them faster) for different reasons. With that said, the early seasons (1-3) will forever hold a special place in my heart. S4-S5 and S10-S11 (maybe not plot-wise...) are honorable mentions too. (Did I just basically list almost all seasons? Yes. Does it matter? No. I say there are no rules). Through all my rewatches, this hasn't really changed either 👀
What scene or moment do you feel isn’t discussed enough? Slight TW here. Ian's attempt at the the bridge, before the car accident at the end of S6E3. It was a very short scene, and I feel like it's not talked about enough. I partially blame the writers, because it was essentially just used as a way to introduce Ian to the EMT carrier path, but still.
What do you think is next for Ian and Mickey post-finale? Expanding their business, maybe getting their own house/apartment. They will definitely get a cat. 0-0-0-0-0-0-0
I'm not tagging anyone, because I'm like 2 days late, but if anyone hasn't done this before, consider yourself tagged. 🐄

S5 Ep 3: Apdnarg is Really Hard to Spell
Yo guys, people are getting vaccinated, the sun is parting through the clouds, and I felt so nice that I even stopped listening to quite so many throwback 00′s BTS mashups (and yet I keep clicking on these dissonant catastrophes thinking “this time it’s got to be better. This time they’ll figure it out.” and like, no. Turns out you can’t match Brittany’s Toxic with BTS’ Black Swan. You can’t do that.)
This must be a sign that things are getting better. If anything, it means my personal tastes are improving. I mean I only clicked on like 3 “Dark Academia” Playlists where I could pretend I’m some sort of spooky witch in an abandoned library with a bad music player and basic taste in classical music (like can we ban Satie from Youtube for a little while?). Hell, I might even do a prompt update to this blog!
Yeah, you heard me, I’m actually going to stay ahead of the update schedule for Yugioh Abridged (maybe. I haven’t actually watched cuz of spoilers, I just noticed the thumbnail pop up on Youtube and was like “Damn it, they came out of hiatus??? I got hurry UP.”)
Anyway, speaking of the sky parting.
Tumblr media
I’ll have you know my bro said this is actually more like a circumcision and it was one of the worst thing I have ever heard.
We get a chance to take in this lineup of confusing and varied character designs, and Joey. who is...still Joey.
Tumblr media
The animators probably had to hold a strike in order for them to put Yugi in the audience, lets be real. There are TOO MANY PEOPLE in this shot and one is wearing a turban where you draw every single wrap. I hope those artists charged by the line.
Tumblr media
Tea has a subplot where she’s just very frustrated with everyone she knows. They have been traveling together for like many weeks and got trapped in a foreign country so I get it. But at the same time, it’s kind of hard to picture Tea with female friends.
Because right now you got this 12 year old child, the other duelist who does not care about anything besides cards, and Kaiba’s 3 dragon cards that we’ve all collectively decided are female.
Hell it’s almost like the writers are asking themselves why Tea is here. Maybe they forgot. There’s no more ghosts to bus, no more people to knock out with her ass with random Olympic feats. Tea’s just sidelining.
(read more under the cut)
Mokuba is a itty bit bit taller this season, and so I guess that means he can legally climb on top of the cherry picker in order to give a riveting speech.
Tumblr media
Really says a lot about Mokuba that he is so unphased about talking to, I dunno...an entire planet of people. Kind of a shame we never see this courage from Mokuba used for anything other than talking really, really big and giving everyone around him a really hard time.
Mokuba takes a moment to dunk on Yugi Muto, as is Kaiba tradition.
Tumblr media
And then introduce the first pair of duelists, which obviously must be between the few people in this tournament that we actually know and care about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thankfully, in between last episode and this episode, Yugi has figured out who his own Grandpa is. This is a relief, because Yugi is such a mess, that I was fully convinced it would take over half a season for him to recognize it. I mean how long did it take him to figure out he shares a body with a ghost? Like half a season?
Instead Yugi recovered gracefully from not recognizing his grandpa, but it’s not like he bothered to tell anyone else, so the rest of our cast is just gonna be like “Is he my hairdresser? The guy who delivers my mail? Who is this guy who made absolutely no significant changes to his outfit or voice?”
Like sometimes this show goes full Spongebob silly kid’s show and you never know when to take it seriously or not. They might be sacrificing the entire cast next episode. I really don’t know. But for now their big concern is who is grandpa??? Like an innocent card version of “Are you my Mother?”
Tumblr media
Faced with public speaking, Yugi decides to have a melt down.
We have seen him face monsters, we’ve seen him on TV dozens of times, he’s been in multiple competitions...but give a speech? Of course he can’t do that. The kid doesn’t attend enough school to know how to do that. Them’s learning skills.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that was when a newly assembled wife-jet spliced through the sky like a souped up razer scooter and deposited 1 fully equipped Seto Kaiba in a Buzz Lightyear jetsuit.
Tumblr media
THE RECOVERY.
Seto always watching over his Brother, ready to save this awkward party if it kills him (and it really should, that suit is held together by two seat-belts), making sure to get on that platform before Yugi starts going off about how he’s half an Ancient Egyptian. (Ah, life before social media. You could just be hella famous and also half a dead dude and people would just not know. I kinda miss the time before I knew literally everything about everyone.)
Tumblr media
Please admire how close those flames are to setting Mokuba’s heavily hairsprayed mane completely alight. It would be an unforgettable spectacle.
These were absolutely just random ass jet packs that Gozaburo Kaiba made to kill hell tons of people, right? Like Seto found it in the family cabin, clutched to the heart of some crispy fried corpse and was like “neat! Mokuba! I found a cool toy!” and just plucked that thing out of that skeleton’s clutches and has been flying around for months?
Like this is Seto Kaiba’s Butter Glider, right?
Tumblr media
Seriously what type of vehicle license do you need for one of these things? RIP My ‘Seto only has a scooter license’ headcanon.
Which I’m only even thinking about because I’ve had to try and make an appt with the DMV for days to get a freakin REAL ID. I went to sleep in 2019 and I could fly on a plane. I woke up in 2021 and it’s like “Want one last screw you?” and just...can 2020 please stop screwing me over? It’s March.
Anyway, the Jet is removed soon after, so no, this is not part of his new outfit. He goes right back to his Post-S4-Trauma-Normcore.
Tumblr media
After wrestling this competition out of his brother’s hands and confusing everyone in the audience, Roland must have gotten the memo to cut the microphone before Seto got too excited and we were quickly ushered on to the next stage of the tournament.
One sec...the BTS Mashup playlist I just clicked on did a Black Swan X 7 rings mashup and it’s the worst thing my ears have ever heard.
Holy crap. I had to actually turn down my volume. Like...Ariana Grande already has music that has way too many overlapping singing parts on it--and then lets just stick a 52-person boy band on top? That’ll fix it. Yeah. Go ahead.
Wow. Even I had to change the song and you know how much I enjoy pop culture mistakes.
Tumblr media
Spot the Mickey but like a million times easier because it’s a Massive Dick Shaped Dragon.
Tumblr media
Yep. That’s my grocery shopping outfit. Except maybe not a lab coat and a duel disk. Wish I had a duel disk, that would make social distancing just a hell ton earlier. Just a “Yo, only one person in checkout, please” and then bap them on the head with a propelled discuss/hologram.
Anyway, Grocery shopping/Doctor man dueled the Purple Hair Boy, and considering that Purple Hair got screen time and shook Yugi’s hand once--I think that Doctor man doesn’t stand a freakin chance.
Good. I hate him.
Also, every time he breathes he’s gonna fog up his glasses. I have experience in this area. He can’t read his own cards in the same way I can’t read my phone if I’m in the refrigerated aisle.
So the way this tournament works, is everyone has to sit in the stadium to watch the show. Kinda like showing up to a football stadium just to watch a recorded TV monitor...but then again...that is how it feels to watch a football game at a football stadium when it’s live (at least with the tickets I usually get.)
Tumblr media
And as we watch Grandpa waiting for his competitor, we find out that his competitor (Joey) is too busy eating snacks to give him the time of day.
Tumblr media
Why do cartoon hot dogs always have lettuce? Is that seriously supposed to be relish? Or is there a place in the world where you put lettuce on your hot dog?
Sorry, bro has just informed of his favorite hot dog order, which is absolutely terrible so I will share it with you: a Five Guys hot dog with ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, onions, mushrooms, pickled peppers, and you guessed it--topped with freakin lettuce.
My own kin. How am I over 30 and just finding out that my baby brother thinks it’s normal to walk into a restaurant with normal god-fearing law-abiding people and order lettuce and mushrooms on a hot dog?
I have fully failed him.
The rest of this episode is watching both Joey Wheeler and Mokuba have a shared panic attack while Seto does freakin nothing.
Please remember that Seto has both a jetpack and a dragon wife plane and could have easily solved this problem. But nah.
Then again, Seto Kaiba has given this crew so MANY rides, that maybe he’s tired of being the Soccer Mom for the team?
Tumblr media
Like they don’t actually say this episode, but Seto was the one in charge of like...this entire place, do you think he made the 2 for 1 special just to get Joey where it hurts the most? Or does it actually not take any subterfuge to screw Joey Wheeler because he’s just naturally this way?
Like Mokuba wasn’t there when Joey was told “stay right here, and then we will all go together to fight Dartz” and Joey was like “I’mma save Mai from herself although she told me not to!” and then he Hella Died. But, Mokuba did see the result, AKA, Joey’s dead body being carried on the back of Tristan. Maybe Mokuba never realized that Joey died because he went out of his way to be late?
Tumblr media
Lets do a tally of every time I can recall with my dodgy memory that Joey was threatened to be DQ’d/pretty much was DQ’d either by his own fault or no fault of his own
-When he wasn’t allowed to go on the boat to Murder Island because he was a stupid nobody kid who did not have a dueling glove
-When he wasn’t actually supposed to be in Pegasus’ tourney and was, in fact, secretly using half of Yugi’s entrance ticket the entire time
-when Bandit Keith stole the ticket that Joey got from Yugi so then Joey had to borrow Mai’s ticket although she had just used it so it really shouldn't have counted. Because, really anyone could have just piggy backed off of each other’s ticket until the whole boat went through that castle.
-When his account was hacked to get entered into Kaiba’s tourney when Kaiba very clearly told him he could not apply solely because he was Joey Wheeler.
-When he was late to his sister’s eye surgery because he got mugged by Marik’s Rare Hunters, so she almost refused to do the surgery.
-When Joey got possessed by Marik, and as Marik, threatened to murder everyone else in the tournament including both of the Kaiba brother’s who’s tournament it was, and then chained himself to Yugi Muto to throw both of them to the bottom of the ocean.
-I think there was a point when he threatened to attack Kaiba in Kaiba’s own tourney while not possessed? Like several times?
-when he got struck by Lightning and almost did not stand up fast enough after being struck by lightning, which is apparently a type of DQ in Duel Monsters.
-When he tried to save Mai from getting hit by a fireball, but then Yugi did it instead, and then so many people were standing on the dueling platform that Kaiba couldn’t possibly DQ them all.
-When he entered the restricted area of the blimp in order to hassle Kaiba into landing the Blimp, which Kaiba did not do.
-When Marik killed Joey before Joey could press the “go” button on his duel disk to play the card that should have won Joey the match.
-When he was dueling a lawyer in a digital universe but then the dice was like...weighted? So Noah had to walk over and be like “The hell is this weighted dice? This is my perfect digital world? How did you even do that?” and then Joey won because the match was no longer legit.
-When Joey yelled at Noah too much and so Noah turned Joey to stone for being a rude ass spectator
-When Mai was like “Wheeler and Valon, listen closely: do NOT murder each other” and then Joey did a murder on Valon so she was like “I guess I have no choice, I was very clear” and killed Joey straight up.
-When Joey decided to block Seto’s fireballs while Joey Wheeler WAS a playing card, somehow disrespecting both Dartz and Seto Kaiba at the same time.
-When Joey was playing cards but then got absorbed into a giant Leviathan and basically couldn’t play anymore after that.
-There’s probably hell ton of S0 stuff I just haven’t seen yet.
-This episode
Tumblr media
And Joey runs fast for a montage of wacky things that really have no business being in a theme park. Things like this:
Tumblr media
(remember when Bakura almost died from a rock that ended up being a balloon? It comes full circle.)
The stuff that the Kaiba brother’s think is normal and fun.
Anyway Joey fights off a bunch of hologram snakes and bats and everyone is like “Should we tell him it’s just holograms???” And it’s like wow, guys, how many times have these ‘holograms’ straight up murdered Joey Wheeler and everyone else on this cast? Too many? Because I have a google doc with so many deaths on it. 7,805,844,048, to be exact.
Anyway, he gets there with five seconds to spare and Mokuba’s like “well at least you were still entertaining while we filmed you in front of a live audience being a total spaz for 15 minutes straight, so I’ll let you go.”
Tumblr media
Grandpa and Joey start playing, Joey completely oblivious that this is just an older Muto, while Hawkins walks up awkwardly and is like “hey guys. I’m so sorry about this.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(welcome to my font choices, for those new here, I have to make weird font color choices to make sure it’s legible for the colorblind and also for the non-colorblind. This one is not much contrast, so I may change it up in the future, but for now, this is Grandpa Muto’s new font. I apologize to every graphic designer reading this. Please don’t tell anyone who has ever hired me for graphic design about this blog.)
What’s funny about this exchange is that after they find out that Yugi’s Grandpa is Apdnarg (HOLY my brain cannot get around the spelling for that, and I will not change it in the caps. I cannot do a ‘pdn’ ever again), they don’t stand on his side of the field or anything. Hawkins is legit Solomon Muto’s only fan during this exchange and like...damn. Way not to back your Grandpa, Yugi.
Tumblr media
Yugi immediately strides up to Mokuba to non-confrontation-ally inform him that he has stepped over a line and Mokuba is like “what are these things you say called ‘lines?’”
Tumblr media
According to Mokuba, Solomon Muto begged him to be in the competition so he could relive his glory days (glory days making no sense here, because the game has only been released for the past 15 years, so glory days is like...the before times that can only be referring to disgraced archeologists and Pegasus ((who is, in his own way...a disgraced archeologist, too))) and Mokuba was like
“You trained Yugi Muto, right? Hey that’s good enough for me. This drama is gold. People will eat it up. Hell yes. Don’t be afraid to abduct him a little bit. Maybe trap a couple people in a digital hellscape for a little while? Now we go by Pegasus house rules here, so fire as many lasers as you want, but just make sure not to hit anyone in the face. Oh man, we are going to be swimming in cash. Love it, Muto Sr, love it.”
But I dunno, I feel like Grandpa won’t make it past next episode. It is Joey. We kinda need him to make it past Ep 4 of the arc. If Grandpa Muto becomes the new Joey Wheeler, that will be a weird transition for this show to make.
But that’s all for today, as always, here is the link to read these in chrono order becuase there’s SO MANY that you don’t need to read backwards--don’t do it--just use the chrono tag (and I don’t know if you can add compound tags, but I did separate the Season from the Episode, so if you write S4, it should only pop up stuff from S4. I didn't’ do that to seasons 1-3 though because I just...didn’t.)
https://steve0discusses.tumblr.com/tagged/yugioh/chrono
And because I brought it up: here it is, the best BTS Mashup that I found on my deep dive. Like legit--this one isn’t a mess:
youtube
Most of other ones are horrible in a fascinating way. Like I’m not even a BTS fan, I think I sort of age out of that metric, I’m just bored and quarantined. And lets be real, we all appreciate a good bop when we hear it.

What you should watch while staying at home part 2! AKA the Disney+ list based off the U.S selection.
Disney+
Lab Rats (TV show)
Rating: TV-Y7
Summary: A scrawny 14-year-old, having discovered his inventor stepdad has three bionic, super-powered teens living cloistered in a secret lab beneath their home, brings them out into the world.
Seasons: all four seasons and the spin-off are on Disney+, except for part 2 of Lab Rats vs. Mighty Med because that is a Mighty Med episode and Mighty Med is not on Disney+ at the time of this post.
Why you should watch it: Lab Rats was the reason I started writing fanfiction (if you're brave and like first person fics, my profile on fanfiction.net under the name Brentinator is full of cringe worthy fics) and it's probably the reason that I like action/adventure so much. It's super funny, it's very dramatic and it has good messages about family and teamwork.
Kickin' It (TV show)
Rating: TV-Y7
Summary: A once-in-a-generation young karate fighter named Jack joins the Wasabi warriors.
Seasons: 1-4 on Disney+
Why you should watch it: it's a comedy about teenagers in a karate dojo. Yeah, it's Disney so it is cringy, but it makes for some good laughs. Leo Howard is a little cutie, there's an episode with Billy Unger (Lab Rats) and Kelli Berglund (Lab Rats). There's some whump in a bit of it, and Jason Earles (Miley's brother in Hannah Montana) is the sensei. It's great.
Austin and Ally (TV show)
Rating: TV-Y7
Summary: Following the lives of Austin, an aspiring confident musician, Ally, a quiet talented songwriter and their two friends.
Seasons: 1-4 on Disney+, part two of the New Year's special is season 2, episode six of Jessie.
Why should you watch it: this was the first Disney Channel show I watched. Ross Lynch was my first celebrity crush, the first soundtrack was my first CD, and Trish gave me some representation as a plus sized woman/teen. It's pretty cringe, but the songs are all amazing and some of jokes are knee slappers.
Good Luck Charlie (TV show)
Rating: TV-Y7
Summary: The Duncan family are adjusting to the surprise birth of their fourth child, Charlie. When parents Amy and Bob return to work they put their latest addition in the care of her three older siblings.
Seasons: all seasons and the movie in between seasons 2 and 3 on Disney+, the second part of the Christmas episode in season 4 is in season 3 of Jessie.
Why should watch it: it's just a good comedy about a family with a lot of kids.
Brave (movie)
Rating: PG
Summary: Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald) defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.
Why should you watch it: this movie holds a very special place in my heart. I watched this movie with my grandpa the Christmas before he died, and it's a memory I hold very close. It's also the best Disney princess with red hair, fight me. And my Merdia Halloween costume where I carried around my dad's bow and arrows can't be beat.
Chicken Little (movie)
Rating: G
Summary: After ruining his reputation with the town, a courageous chicken must come to the rescue of his fellow citizens when aliens start an invasion.
Why should you watch it: a lot of people say this is Disney's worst animated movie. But this is a very nostalgic movie for me, and some of the jokes can't be beat. Also, aliens.
Bad Hair Day (movie)
Rating: TV-G
Summary: A buddy comedy about a high school tech-whiz whose prom day abruptly shifts into a wild ride across town, thanks to a down-on-her-luck cop and a jewel thief.
Why should you watch it: it's Ally from Austin and Ally and the mom from Good Luck Charlie trying to protect a missing necklace, and the two of them grow a motner-daughter type relationship during it.
Descendants 2 (movie)
Rating: TV-G
Summary: Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay try to adjust to life in Auradon, but Mal becomes overwhelmed with pressure and returns to her roots.
Why should you watch it: I love the Descendants franchise, but the second movie has the best songs, the best acting and the best villains. I'm obsessed with China Anne McClain and she's a great villain. But watch the first movie. After all, it has Dove Cameron, Booboo Stewart, Sofia Carson and the late Cameron Boyce with some of their best acting being displayed.
High School Musical 2 (movie)
Rating: TV-G
Summary: School's out for summer and the East High Wildcats are ready to make it the time of their lives after landing jobs in a wealthy country club owned by Sharpay and Ryan's family.
Why you should watch it: I'm not a huge HSM fan, but I love Sharpay and Ryan, and I love the movie that's on their turf. It also has my favorite HSM song in it, which is Bet On It. Probably watch the first movie first though.
Geek Charming (movie)
Rating: TV-G
Summary: To win a school popularity contest, a high school diva permits a film club classmate to record her popular life, but the film starts documenting her decline instead.
Why you should watch it: this is possibly my favorite DCOM, and Sarah Hyland is so good at her job, it's insane. It's overshadowed by what happened between the leads afterwards, however.
How to Build a Better Boy (movie)
Rating: TV-G
Summary: Teenage tech whizzes unwittingly use military software to program a robotic boyfriend.
Why you should watch it: probably why I like it so much is because it has China Anne McClain and Kelli Berglund, and it's a cool concept. Also has Noah Centerpiece if you like him as well.
Teen Beach Movie (movie)
Rating: not rated
Summary: Two surfing lovers, whose doomed relationship is nearing to a close, find themselves swept into a a dimension traversing wave that sends them into a beach movie musical in the 60's.
Why you should watch it: it's not a great plot, but the acting is pretty good and the songs are so amazing. Also, Ross Lynch. Not a huge fan of the sequel, but you should still check it out if you like the first one.
The Emperor's New Groove (movie)
Rating: G
Summary: Emperor Kuzco is turned into a llama by his ex-administrator Yzma, and must now regain his throne with the help of Pacha, the gentle llama herder.
Why should you watch it: this is the movie I grew up on. I knew all the quotes, I knew all the jokes, and one time I barged into my sister's youth group shouting "boom bam, baby!" It's so good and so funny.
Finding Nemo (movie)
Rating: G
Summary: After his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home.
Why should you watch it: my other childhood movie. Also knew the quotes, and the jokes, and I spoke whale in church when I was very young. There may also be a Finding Nemo Irondad AU from me in the future.
Holes (movie)
Rating: PG
Summary: A wrongfully convicted boy is sent to a brutal desert detention camp where he joins the job of digging holes for some mysterious reason.
Why should you watch it: to this day this is the most accurate book to movie adaptation I've ever seen. Also, Madame Zeroni.
Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers (movie)
Rating: G
Summary: Mickey, Donald and Goofy are the French three Musketeers.
Why you should watch it: well, it's what the summary says. The Mickey Mouse gang as the musketeers. And it has la pit in it. "No, not la pit!"
Pocahontas (movie)
Rating: G
Summary: An English soldier and the daughter of an Algonquin chief share a romance when English colonists invade seventeenth century Virginia.
Why should you watch it: is it historically accurate, no. But does it have one of the sweetest romances in the history of Disney, I would like to think so. And Pocahontas is just one of my favorite Disney princesses, even if she's not technically a princess.
Tangled
Rating: PG
Summary: The magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.
Why should you watch it: a carefree princess, a attractive and hilarious thief and the cutest little chameleon ever! The animation is gorgeous, the songs are amazing and Mother Gothel is such a good villain.
Pooh's Heffalump Movie (movie)
Rating: G
Summary: A Heffalump is heard trumpeting in the hundred acre woods. Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Piglet are scared and rush to Rabbit's house for advice. Roo joins them and they all agree that Heffalumps are nearby after finding a huge footprint. They decide to set out on an expedition to catch the Heffalump. Roo is not allowed to come along because he is too little.
Why should you watch it: I watched a lot of Winnie the Pooh movies when I was little, because Winnie the Pooh is my mom's favorite Disney franchise, but this one is my favorite. It's so soft, and it has a good lesson that even if you're different, that doesn't mean you're evil or scary.
Read it and Weep (movie)
Rating: TV-G
Summary: A shy and retiring high school student develops a peculiar alter ego that changes her life forever.
Why should you watch it: it's about a writer in high school! This is one of my favorite Disney movies ever, and I highly recommend it to everyone.
Sky High (movie)
Rating: PG
Summary: Set in an era where superheroes are commonly known and accepted, young William Stronghold, the son of the Commander and Jetstream, tries to find a balance between being a normal teenager and an extraordinary being.
Why should you watch it: clearly, I like movies and shows about superheroes (I mean, I write for Marvel). This movie is about William, who hasn't gotten his powers yet, and has been lying to his parents that he has before he goes to superhero high school. The ending is weird, but I love this movie.

OTP Tag
I was tagged by @whaticameherefor, thank you!! <3
Let’s go chronological order with the Real otps and then add whoever else i can think of lmao. Putting some of this under a cut bc it got long!
Stiles Stilinski/Derek Hale (Teen Wolf)
Neil Josten/Andrew Minyard (All For the Game)
Isak Valtersen/Even Bech Naesheim (Skam)
Ian Gallagher/Mickey Milkovich (Shameless)
Nick Miller/Jessica Day (New Girl)
Allison Argent/Scott McCall (Teen Wolf)
Otis Milburn/Maeve Wiley (Sex Education)
David Rose/Patrick Brewer (Schitt’s Creek)
Alexis Rose/Ted Mullins (Schitt’s Creek)
Eva Mohn/Jonas Noah Vasquez
1. Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 6?
Oh man, I mean I shipped them from the beginning but episode 5 “The Tell” was sort of my holy grail episode in terms of content for scallison and thus, when i fell in love. Also special shoutout to the scene in “Heart Monitor” when Allison holds Scott’s hand under the table and it helps keep him in control and we find out she’s his anchor. I devoted my whole heart then and there <3
2. Have you ever read a fanfic about 2?
Yes, extensively lmao
3. Has a picture of 4 ever been your screen saver/profile picture/tumblr screen saver?
Haha nah, i’m not really an “otp as my screensaver” sort of person.
4. If 7 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?
Well I mean everyone seems to be doing their damndest to keep them apart in the first place so i need them to actually get together first sakdjfhksa but yeah, let’s just say my response to the season 2 finale was “oh nooooooooo” which basically answers this question lol.
5. Why is 1 so important?
Ugh, because. Their dynamic was so, so good and it came out of Nowhere. Like it was one of those relationships that sort of sneaks up on you like, holy shit these two bounce off each other really well????? And the dichotomy of them shit-talking each other All The Time but then continually sacrificing themselves for one another and taking turns saving each other’s lives was so fascinating to watch. Especially as the shit-talking became decidedly more fond as the seasons went on and you realised they’d genuinely started to care for each other. We could’ve had it all and I’m still bitter lmao.
6. Is 9 a funny ship or a serious ship?
Definitely funny but in their moments of sincerity were so incredibly sweet <3
7. Out of all the ships listed, which ship has the most chemistry?
Oooooh this is hard sakdjhsjh I mean, I ship them all because I feel like they have chemistry and each relationship is different. I think I’ll say the skam ships just bc isak/even and eva/jonas legitimately felt like real couples to me? like if you told either pairing was together irl I’d believe you, y’know? (there’s 3 or 4 others that are strong contenders though!!!)
8. Out of all your ships listed, which ship has the strongest bond?
Oof. Again, this is really hard. I’m inclined to say Ian/Mickey bc I think they have the longest history of any of the ships I’ve listed here and it just runs so deep, y’know? Like to quote mickey, they’re under each other’s skin. So in that regard, I think they’d have the strongest bond. (The same could sort of be said for andrew/neil in terms of what they’ve gone through together too though) But I feel like nick and jess have an amazing bond too in the sense that they really, really are best friends beneath everything and you can See that in the way they love each other.
9. How many times have you read/watched the 10’s fandom?
Oh my god i have no idea. I’ve definitely rewatched all of skam once (possibly twice?) but I’ve rewatched individual clips/episodes a million times over. The morning the 8.10 kitchen scene came out i just stayed in bed for like 3 hours rewatching it over and over again askdjhcs That’s kind of the beauty of the clip format though in terms of rewatching favourite scenes :’)
10. Which ship has lasted the longest?
Okay I’m assuming this means like, stayed together the longest? In which case that goes to Ian and Mickey again, I believe (or Nick and Jess if you include the 3 year time jump)
11. How many times, if ever, has 6 broken up?
Once and I’m Still angry lmao
12. If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 2 or 8?
Oh my god 2 lmfao i love david and patrick but i’m p sure andrew and neil were built for a zombie apocalypse sadjhasjh
13. Did 7 ever have to hide their relationship for any reason?
Mm they’ve sort of hid their feelings for each other???? Like obviously not just from each other but also from other people like Ola etc
14. Is 4 still together?
Yep and happily married :D
15. Is 10 canon?
YES. Thank you Julie Andem and Marlon Langland!!!!
16. If all 10 ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?
Jfc. It’d be a toss up between Andrew/Neil, Stiles/Derek and Ian/Mickey
17. Has anybody ever tried to sabotage 5’s ship?
Yes, Schmidt did for like one ep and it was hilarious but also ended in Nick telling Jess how he feels :’))))))
18. Which ship would you defend to the death and beyond?
All of them tbh. I care about Otis/Maeve and Alexis/Ted slightly less but the other 8 are some forever otps
19. Do you spend hours a day going through 3’s tumblr page?
I did back in the day for like 2 years straight lol
20. If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she’d break them all forever, which ship would you sink?
asdkjfhdsa ok i’m gonna say Alexis and Ted but jUST BECAUSE they already ended their relationship themselves and i’m content w the ending even if i desperately hope they’ll reunite some day down the line. The others I simply cannot compromise on
I’m gonna tag @thisfeebleheart, @himick, @smores100 and @happyminyards

Tagged by @yamujiburo (Sorta, she just said anyone who sees her post can do this and I'm bored)
Pick 5 shows, then answer the following questions!  Don’t look at them first. Then tag some people.
1. My Hero Academia
2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
3. Adventure Time
4. Bob's Burgers
5. BuzzFeed Unsolved (yes, I'm counting it as a show)
Who is your favorite character in 2?
In FMA, it would have to be Alphonse. I've always loved him, even back when I first read the manga in high school. He's so sweet and kind, but also a badass, and I love him!
Who is your least favorite character in 1?
This might seem obvious, but grape boy aka Mineta. Other than him, probably Endeavor.
What is your favorite episode of 4?
For Bob's Burgers, that would probably be the season 4 finale where Bob tries to convince Mr. Fishoeder to sell the wharf, then ends up realizing that's a bad idea and almost gets killed by Felix. That's technically two episodes, but I love the plot and I love the songs in both episodes.
What is your favorite season of 5?
That would probably be Supernatural season 3, cuz it has great episodes like the Goatman's Shane Madej's Bridge, the Viaduct Tavern, the London Tombs, and the UFO crash in Roswell.
Who is your favorite couple in 3?
Oh, ever since I was a teenager and super into Adventure Time, I've always loved Finn and Flame Princess. I even made fankids for them. I loved that ship.
What is your favorite episode of 1?
My favorite episode of BNHA is probably in season 2, Todoroki Shoto: Origin. I loved getting to learn more about Todoroki and seeing his and Midoriya's fight! Also, the start of Tododeku.
What is your favorite episode of 5?
Goatman's Bridge for sure. It's hilarious!
What is your favorite season of 2?
Hmmmmmmm, that's so hard cuz I love literally all of FMA. But if I had to choose, I'd say either the first or the last seasons. The first season really sets things up, and yeah there is Nina and Alexander and Mae's Hughes, but it does a great job of introducing a lot of the major characters and setting things up. The last season is great cuz that's when shit really goes down, and it's super epic to see everyone coming together for this epic battle, and then the ending is so sweet with showing how each of the characters go on with their lives!
How long have you watched 1?
Actually, I think I've only been watching BNHA for a little over a year. My friends and my gf got me into it, and I've loved it ever since! (I'm still trying to catch up in season 4, and I saw the episode where one of the heroes dies, which was quite upsetting. I won't say who in case of spoilers.)
How did you become interested in 3?
I remember I got into Adventure Time when it first came out when I was about 12. I saw the trailers for it on Cartoon Network and I thought it looked weird but I decided to give it a chance, and I ended up loving it.
Who is your favorite actor in 4?
Probably Kristin Schaal who plays Louise. Her character is hilarious, and I love how she delivers her lines. One of my favorite examples is in the episode where Mickey robs a bank and they're on the phone with him to negotiate, and Louise/Kristin Schaal can go from calmly and excitedly asking Mickey questions about crime, to yelling at the detective "That's my daddy in there! Let me talk!"
Which do you prefer: 1, 2, or 5?
BNHA, FMA, or BuzzFeed Unsolved..... if I had to go with one, probably FMA. I know I've been on a huge BNHA kick lately, but FMA will always be my favorite. It's got great writing, great characters and designs, the women aren't highly sexualized, the relationships between characters all feel so realistic, and it'll always hold a special place in my heart as my first anime. (Pokémon was technically my first anime, but I didn't know it was anime at the time.)
If you could be anyone from 4, who would it be?
Probably Louise. She's one of my favorites, and she's super funny and badass for a kid.
Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?
Between Adventure Time and Bob's Burgers...... I doubt it. Unless portals and time travel is possible I guess. The biggest issue I would see is that Adventure Time takes place in a post apocalyptic world, so Bob's Burgers would probably be long gone. Although it'd be funny to see the Bob's Burgers restaurant sign buried somewhere in the Land of Ooo as a cameo, or see Adventure Time show up on a TV in the background of Bob's Burgers.
Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple?
Hmm, maybe Ling and Ed? They're good friends, even if they annoy each other sometimes, but I could see them possibly getting together.
Overall, which show has the best storyline: 3 or 5?
Well, considering the fact that BuzzFeed Unsolved doesn't technically have a storyline, then I'm gonna go with Adventure Time.
Which has better theme music: 2 or 4?
Fullmetal Alchemist for sure! The theme songs in FMA (both 2003 and Brotherhood, but especially Brotherhood imo) are all amazing! Yes, Bob's Burgers has some great bops, but this is asking about theme songs, so FMA wins it.
Okay, time to tag people! I'm too tired to do that cuz it's now almost 1:30 am, so whoever sees this can do it if they want! Go nuts! :D

“Sab,” Daniel’s voice called over the din of the bar as she loaded up her tray, nodding at Trina behind it. “Table 16 wants the bill. And table 28 specifically requested you.”
Sighing gently she paused to print the requested bill before lifting the tray onto her shoulder.
Table 16 was full of college-aged girls taking advantage of cheap drink specials on their way to their next dance stop.
“Thanks, ladies,” she smiled widely, dropping the bill on the table. One of the women quickly placed a card on the table next to the bill. “No worries, I’ll bring the machine by.”
She smiled, placing drinks in front of their owners before heading to the table that requested her. Her stomach dropped slightly as she neared the corner booth. Her sigh reverberated to her toes before she stepped up to the booth, green and blue eyes resting easily on her as she plastered a smile on her lips.
“Hey, welcome to Lucky Strike!” She started, waving a hand at their surroundings. “I’m Sabrina and I’ll be helping you out tonight. Can I start you both out with something to drink?”
“Sabrina…” the brows over the deep blue eyes furrowed at her speech. “We need to talk.”
“And I need to work. Undisturbed.” She shook her head, turning towards the brother with the piercing green gaze. “What about you, Pretty Boy?”
“Gin and tonic, Beautiful,” Leo winked at her. Her gaze moved back over to his younger brother, who waved her off dismissively. She bit back the roll her eyes desperately wanted to send his way before stomping back to the bar. “Jesus, Liam… Not once did I think that I would be the reasonable one here…”
Liam watched the beautiful blond walk away from him, trying to figure out his next move.
“Liam, you’re being a royal ass,” Leo’s words brought the younger’s gaze back to him. “Why on earth would she leave her home for someone waving her away?”
Leo waved his hands around in front of his brother, whose sigh nearly shook the table. The younger man pulled his hands through his thick locks before looking up despairingly.
“What am I going to do, Leo?” His voice catching with emotion. “I can’t leave her here.”
The older brother sighed softly at the younger man in front of him. He gave his brother’s arm a gentle pat.
“First… you’re going to stop being the world’s largest ass,” he grinned at his brother’s groan. “And then… you’re going to apologize to the pretty girl and talk to her like a human being. Fuck, Liam. You’re better than this. Show her.”
“You’re right...” he nodded. “I can do this. I’m better than this... I just need to talk to her. Show her how much she means to me.”
His eyes tracked her as she moved effortlessly through the bar. A full tray resting on the bare shoulder peeking out of her oversized t-shirt emblazoned with the same emblem on the front of the bar, pausing at the table filled with a group of men around her age. Leo’s hand gripping his forearm was the only thing keeping him at the table as one of the men grabbed her around the waist. She smiled at the man before authoritatively pulling his arm from around her and playfully wagging her finger in admonishment.
Liam released the tense breath he hadn’t realized he was holding as the table laughed with her and she continued on her way. She paused briefly at their own table, placing the drink Leo had ordered in front of him and pointedly ignoring Liam.
“Yikes...” Leo grimaced, sipping his drink as the pretty blond left their table. “You really did it now, brother.”
Liam sighed deeply resting his head heavily in his hands.
Now want I am going to do?
The night passed quicker than Sabrina had expected it to. Winding down her shift as she wiped down another empty table, only 3 tables left in the place. She sensed his presence behind her before turning around to see him, his blue eyes pleading. Her sigh was deep as she leaned against the now clean table.
“Can we start tonight over?” His voice was soft as he stepped closer to her. Not saying a word she tilted her head towards him. “Sabrina, the thought of leaving you behind in New York makes my stomach tie into a million knots and my heart ache. I can’t go back to Cordonia knowing you’re still here.”
“What about what I need, Liam?” Her question brought a flash of defensiveness through his eyes. “What about my life? Killer needs me, and I can’t uproot her for a summer fling. What about my friends here? You’re asking me to leave a lot, for what?”
“For me...” his voice was soft, pleading as he placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. “For us...”
Her eyes softened as he brushed a curl off of her forehead.
“Look...” he sighed. “I have no idea how the next few months will go. But I do know that I need to give this a try. Killer is more than welcome to come with us. And besides, we may need her to keep Leo in line over the social season.”
Her laugh squeezed his heart tightly.
“She does make a good babysitter...” she mused. He stepped closer to her still his hand resting lightly on her hip. “What about my job? What am I going to do over there?”
Her eyebrows knit together with concern.
“Whatever you want to... if you want to work, we’ll make that happen... you want to live in the lap of luxury, it’s yours,” his smile grew as her determination slipped a little further. “And before you ask, your friends would always be welcome. We could arrange to fly them out whenever they want to come out.”
“Okay, my Mickey Blue Eyes... you win.” She squealed as he wrapped her tightly in his arms, lifting her up off the ground he spun them both in a tight circle. “But I have conditions.”
“Anything. Whatever you want,” his eyes were ablaze with joy knowing she was giving in. He pushed the hair surrounding her face out of her eyes.  She pushed her fingers, counting off her conditions.
“One… Killer is coming. She’s my best friend and I won’t leave her here. Two... if I decide to work, I get zero complaints. Zero, Liam.” He nodded emphatically as she held up three fingers to him. “Lastly… I won’t be abandoned. I’m leaving my home, my family, for you. I won’t go there to be left alone.”
“I promise to be the most attentive person on the face of the earth,” she chuckled as he tilted her chin to look into her eyes. “You’ll be sending me away.”
“We’ll see, Blue Eyes,” she smiled, pulling his face to hers for a quick kiss. “Now let me finish my last shift here.”
He pulled her tighter to him, stealing another quick kiss.
“You could always come back to the hotel…” he suggested, nuzzling the sensitive skin just below her ear.
“No way, your highness,” she laughed, pushing him away. “I have too much to do now. Go.”
“I’ll be by to pick you up tomorrow, afternoon.” His grin was infectious as he rubbed his thumb against her cheek. “I can’t wait to show you my home.”
“I can’t wait to see it,’ she shooed him out the door, where his brother was waiting.
“So… You’re leaving.” A voice behind her startled her back to the task at hand. “For a guy you just met.”
“Dan, please don’t,” she sighed before turning to her friend. “I’m leaving for me. Because I feel I need to do this for me. And I need my friend to understand, give me a hug and say bon voyage.”
His shoulders slumped before pulling her in for a tight embrace.
“Bon voyage, Sab,” he whispered and she squeezed him back. “Promise to call?”
“Every day,” she sniffled against him, squeezing a little tighter. “And twice on Sundays.”
The pair laughed together before pulling apart. Daniel chucked her chin softly.
“I’m gonna miss you kid,” his eyes were sad as he turned to head back to the bar.
“You’re not that much older than me, Daniel,” she grinned, punching him lightly on the shoulder. “Besides… You’ll just have to come and visit me.”
“Yup with my millions of dollars I have stashed away for European vacations,” her eyes rolled at his sarcasm. “Don’t worry, Sab. We’ll figure it out.”
“A girl couldn’t ask for a better friend than you, Daniel.” She squeezed his shoulders in a half hug. “I’m gonna miss you too.”
The pair smiled sadly at each other before she ran out the door to pack.

Martha anon here. I finished Tennant's seasons. I was not expecting to cry this much watching this show, but I have already shed so many tears.. Anyway, Martha in the S4 finale was amazing. She had some very difficult choices to juggle that I cannot begin to imagine contemplating, but I thought she handled it brilliantly. And all the "children of time" there at the end was marvelous. I wish she and the Doctor had had a better goodbye but the salute was a nice touch. And her going off (1/2)
with Jack and Mickey was sweet. I have a huge soft spot for Mickey so I love the fact that they are together, but I do wish we got a little more of how all that happened and what they’re doing now. It makes me kind of sad that they’re using massive guns and stuff when the Doctor was so against that though. I was hoping for more of her in the last special, but what we got was touching. The Doctor’s face, with all the people he visited, was so tragic and it breaks my heart that that’s the last they all saw of him. But I have to say it was a beautiful ending. And I am so excited for Eleven (before, when I’d only seen a handful of episodes for each Doctor, he was my favorite so we’ll see if that holds true). Also, when in Martha’s timeline to the Torchwood episodes take place? Is there anything about what she and Mickey are doing now? Thanks for listening to my ramblings :)
Hello again! Sorry for the delay in response.
I’m so glad you loved her in it!
Martha and Mickey were actually going to get more focus in the third series of Torchwood, but sadly Freema Agyeman was busy. So their relationship definitly does feel a bit out of nowhere, which makes me sad. I could buy it, but it feels a bit rushed. And I don’t like the guns myself, I think Martha herself is more than that. Mickey with a gun and Martha with a bunch of medical supplies to patch up bystanders or even alien invaders, that’d be my ideal for them!
For Martha, the Torchwood stories take place between series 3 and 4. So after she leaves the Doctor and before the Sontaran stuff.
There’s a bit about how she and Mickey are doing now in Children of Earth to explain their absence.
JACK: Of all the times for Martha Jones to go on holiday. I get Sergeant Grunt. I'm talking to a sergeant. GWEN: Don't you dare phone her. She's on her honeymoon.
And she later turns up in a full cast Torchwood audio story, Lost Souls. That’s after Journey’s End, before Children of Earth and The End of Time. Pretty sure it’s online, but I can’t recall where at the moment.
I really hope you love Eleven. He’s my personal favorite. Enjoy watching!

Rules: pick 5 shows, then answer the following questions! don’t look at them, and don’t cheat.
1. how i met your mother
2. shameless
3. love
4. community
5. master of none
who is your favorite character in 2? (shameless) fiona gallagher, duh
who is your least favorite character in 1? (himym) i love them all with all of my heart but i really can’t stand bob saget as the narrator if that counts..
what is your favorite episode of 4? (community) omg. i have waayyy too many faves!! any episode where they do a bottle episode, specifically 2x8 cooperative calligraphy (the first bottle ep). 3x3 (or is it 4? - 3rd but aired as 4th) remedial chaos theory because of the 7 different episodes in once - multiverse of possibility makes this episode iconic. literally any of the paintball episodes (legendary). 2x5 messianic myths and ancient peoples because the “abed abed abed” chant will go down in history and i myself chant it on the daily. 3x14 pillows and blankets is amazing.. any of the blanket fort episodes, really... omg. too many.. toooo too many.
what is your favorite season of 5? there’s only two seasons unfortunately.. but s2 is my favorite. it makes me feel all different emotions. it’s precious and comical all at once and the whole season takes place in italy (for the most part) and it’s just a grand old time. i find myself shouting “il ladro” just because of 2x1.. i love that dev and francesca dance to guarda come dondolo.. just amazing.
who is your favorite couple in 3? (love) if you say anyone except for mickey and gus, why were you even watching this show???
what is your favorite episode of 1? (himym) omfg why? i can’t pick one!!! i guess i can.. 2x9. slap bet. let’s go to the mall is on my hype playlist.
what is your favorite episode of 5? (master of none) i guess 2x2 would have to be my favorite.. le nozze. i love when arthur meets dev in italy because big bud & lil bud are adorable.
what is your favorite season of 2? (shameless) i have about three favorite seasons for this shows and it’s all because of character progression/development.. but season 4 kept everyone on their toes because liam ingested cocaine and none of us were the same ever since. they even had to get a whole ass new kid to play liam bc that baby was so triggered from pretending to ingest fake cocaine.. true story:/
how long have you watched 1? (himym) since the spring of 2012!!! someone introduced me to it and it has had my whole heart since. himym is my bby. my true love. xo
how did you become interested in 3? (love) my best friend allie told me to watch it - and i have to listen to allie so i watched binged it, and loved every second of it.
who is your favorite actor in 4? (community) gillian jacobs is bae. i also just realized that she is in two of the five shows i picked. oops.
which do you prefer: 1, 2, or 5? (himym, shameless, master of none) himym will always be my favorite show of all time.. but each of these shows have amazing qualities within them. himym just holds a special place in my heart. i love it. always will. i can watch it 765409234 times through, again and again and again and never tire of it.
which show have you seen more episodes of - 1 or 3? (himym or love) himym all the way.. it has more episodes to begin with and i’ve only watched all of love about 6 times through where as i’ve watched himym 4872 times through. so, himym for sure.
if you could be anyone from 4, who would you be? (community) britta perry for sure. our queen. our savior.
would a crossover between 3 and 4 work? (love and community) gillian jacobs is in both shows so definitely not. as a psych major, britta would constantly try to diagnose mickey and intervene with her sex, love, and drug addictions.
pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple: (himym) ummm this is a tough one because i see them as one big family but i guess i would have to say barney and lily because the chemistry is definitely there and the “world’s greatest couple” episode was entertaining to say the least. they’d be a good balance for each other and not too bad to look at either.. lol.
overall, which show has the best storyline: 3 or 5? (love or master of none) uhhhh love most likely.. master of none is just about a bunch of YAs navigating life whereas love actually has character growth and an endgame. mickey/gus get married, addictions and problems are cured/fixed.. master of none is kind of just up in the air and who knows if aziz will ever make another season.
which has better theme music: 2 or 4? (shameless or community) omg this is a tough one!! probably shameless because the intro is iconic but i’d be lying if i said that neither of these songs were on my playlist!

“I’m 19 forever with my skates on,” is how old Matt Mickey responded when I asked him his age. This is the exact same age I feel when I’m cruising through urban landscapes, distance skating down country roads or hitting the skatepark with some friends. For many of us seasoned skaters, blading is the fountain of youth… the DMV however may not agree. At 38-years-old Matt has been on his skates for the past 24 of those years, primarily as an aggressive street and park skater. And for the last 18 years, he has been running Intuition Skate Shop in Bakersfield, California.
Back when I lived in San Diego in the 2000s, my friends and I would stop by Intuition anytime we went on tour or were on our way to skate Woodward West. I was always impressed by Matt’s hard work, love and dedication to blading. Not only to help foster the scene in his hometown, but to help blading shine and grow around the world. Both Matt and Intuition have been a valuable asset and blessing to our sport for almost two decades. So it was due time that I reached out for an interview to discuss Intuition’s longevity, Matt’s involvement in blading and what the future holds for Intuition Skate Shop.
How did Intuition start?
Intuition started because my great friend Ray Tolentino’s Dad was a property owner and had a storefront available. He heard Ray and I talking about wanting to start a skate shop, so he offered to lease us our first location with two months of free rent!
How many locations have you had?
Intuition is in its third and largest space, which opened in 2006. Like all of our past locations, the current store is in downtown Bakersfield.
What keeps your going?
Rollerblading took a hold of my heart back when I was 16, and hasn’t let go. I still have so much fun skating. Hell, I learned a new line at the last Thursday Night Skate and it felt so damn good!
A candy shop for bladers.
What is your favorite part of running a shop?
My favorite part of running a shop is seeing the fire ignite in someone when they put on skates for the first time. I also love when I see a person return to skating from a long absence. Knowing that they have unlocked the route to the ultimate adventure and form of creativity. I have found that path again, after straying off it.
What ways are you involved in the blading community outside of Intuition?
I announce and commentate for the Blading Cup and other contests and events. Intuition also hosts an annual week at Woodward West skate camp, where some of the team riders and myself will skate with and help teach the campers. This is supported by many brands in the industry, which allows us to ensure all campers go home juiced on skating and equipped to stay active on blades. The 12th Annual Woodward Intuition Week will take place from July 14th-20th, 2019. Save $100 when you sign up by Jan 31st via WoodwardWest.com.
I also write for ONE Magazine from time to time.
How have you managed to adapt with the time and stay in business when so many other retailers have shut down?
For me, it was never a question of “Is Intuition going to survive?” Many people come into the shop and ask if I’m the owner. Often I will say to them, “I’m usually here six days a week, but the shop belongs to whoever comes in here and needs skating gear.”
Intuition will continue to be a mainstay because inline skating is still the biggest thing to me! It is disheartening that other retailers have closed up. However, several new inline storefronts have opened up in America within the last couple of years and I know that they can succeed too!
Have you had to re-invent your business model?
We have not had to re-invent our business model, so to speak. But for the last 5-6 years, we have also carried roller skates, in addition to inline skates.
The emergence of Big Wheel Blading and Tri-Skates has brought a whole new demographic through the doors here at Intuition. This has helped us gain recognition and sales, and also been a catalyst to broadening our product selection. Big Wheel Blading has definitely helped Intuition grow over the last 2-3 years.
Have you noticed any significant change in the numbers of people participating in recreational skating vs. aggressive skating in the US in the past several years?
Yes. There are clearly more people (men, women, and kids) participating in skating, whether it be cruising the bike trail, at roller rinks or at the skate park. Additionally, the last 2-3 years has seen a sustained surge in guys coming “Back to Blading” after years away from the aggressive scene. This is fantastic! Almost every day we receive a call or a walk-in, that begins their conversation by saying “I haven’t bladed in years…”
Sometimes they have been away from the game two decades! And often times they have a kid (or kids) who they get on skates for the first time, while they get back in the saddle. Rollerblading is old enough now to be generational, and it is inspiring to see so many Dads (and Moms) re-embrace what they had fun doing growing up and sharing that with their kids.
How important was picking your location to the success of the business?
Living and running a business in Bakersfield is relatively cheap, compared with anywhere else in California. And luckily for Intuition, Bakersfield is strategically located 1.5 hours north of Los Angeles, and 4 hours south of San Francisco. So we are pretty much smack dab in the middle of California, which is the nucleus for the worldwide skate scene. That happened out of pure fate, as I was born and raised here in the town that Buck Owens built, and God forgot.
Do you offer skate lessons?
We do not offer skate lessons. However, we have printed info from our three local roller rinks (Skateland, Rollerama, and Rollerama West) that includes lesson times, and their open session schedules. We definitely support our local roller rinks!
Do you sell quads?
Yes, we do sell quads. Intuition is a proud dealer for Sure Grip, Riedell, Moxi, and Chaya. We also sell Triple 8, 187 Killer Pads, Smith Scabs, Ennui, Lux Armor, and Sisu protective gear.
Intution carries a nice selection of quads and safety equipment.
What can someone do in their hometown to help inline skating grow?
I still feel the most powerful thing you can do to promote skating in your hometown is to simply continue skating. If you’re out rolling on the bike path, at the skate park or in your neighborhood, people will naturally see that. You cannot help but meet other skaters and peak future and fellow skaters’ interest at the same time.
Scheduled frequent sessions, and online groups (Facebook, group texts, etc.) are a great way to maintain a healthy scene. And that doesn’t cost a dime! We have a weekly Thursday Night Skate (TNS) session from 6-10pm at the Taft, CA skate park, located 30 minutes west of Bakersfield. Many times, we’ll have skaters from out of town roll through and occasionally international skaters will drop in on their holidays. Our TNS sessions are promoted through Intuition’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, and anyone on wheels is welcome.
Are most of your sales online or in-store?
We are still brick and mortar first, with people driving from all over, just to be able to try on and compare skates. However, half of our sales are from walk-in clients and half are from phone and online orders. During the Christmas season (Black Friday through mid – January), that percentage skews towards online sales being the lion share.
What other countries do you sell to?
Intuition ships internationally, and has done so for over 15 years. Essentially, if you come to us for skates, and the payment is secured, we’ve got you covered!
How many people come into you store on average during the week and then on the weekend?
During an average week, Intuition will see 15 – 40 walk-in clients. Some are just browsing, some mistakenly think we sell skateboards, and a good deal of them make purchases. On Saturdays, we usually get 5-15 people throughout the day. Intuition is closed Sundays for skating, church, combing the yard, and inner tubing the KILLER KERN RIVER in the summer.
What do you think would help skating be more successful?
I think that making a collective and consorted effort to keep blading kid and family friendly will only help our numbers grow.
Would you ever consider carrying speed skating products?
Yes. Intuition actually offers special order services to any inquiring clients for speed skating brands like Powerslide, Matter, Hyper, etc.

What sets your store apart from others?
Intuition prides itself on being brick and mortar first. That serves two main purposes. First allowing clients to try on and compare skates to get the right fit. And we all know comfort is Rule #1 when it comes to skates. Secondly creating a scene where you can meet other bladers, check out and purchase skate gear from actual bladers, and maintain a physical hub that gives skaters the world over a place to call home.
What achievement are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the fact that no matter where I go, people are always asking if I have any of my Mom’s World Famous Homemade Intuition Cookies. Thanks, Mom! (Note: You can always pick up a fresh bag at the Blading Cup every year!) Her support is herculean!
Did you ever have any periods where you thought you might not make it?
Yes, after a fire on October 22, 2004 burned down the adjacent Mexican restaurant and nail salon at Intuition’s original location. It was devastating for us. But after cleaning out the old shop, and sifting through what the flames had torched and what we could keep, my senses came to me. I soon found it wasn’t up to me to quit or continue on. Rollerblading needed Intuition. That was a tough year though…
What was the most successful period for you?
The most successful period for Intuition is no doubt the time from Blading Cup through Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday until mid January. Although this past February, when Jon Julio launched pre-orders for his new Them Skates brand, we had our single most successful day in the history of Intuition – by 12 noon!
Are there a significant amount of aggressive skaters switching over to big wheel aggressive frame set-ups?
Yes. The Oysius frames are especially rising in popularity.
Do you think inline retailers need to sell items outside of inline skating to stay afloat?
I think that is absolutely worth considering selling ‘complimentary’ products. And by that I mean, products and brands that don’t detract from your inline base. Intuition started selling roller skates, quad skates and related accessories 5-6 years ago in response to increasing requests for those products. Even the local roller rinks pro shops don’t have what quad skaters are looking for.
So to nurture their scene, and strengthen our business model, Intuition proudly caters to roller skaters and inline skaters alike. A lot of kids start out on quads as they find them more stable. And many veteran skaters prefer quads, as that is what they have skated for decades on end. When it comes down to it, we use the same bearings, and all the protective gear translates over, so it’s really a win-win.

Does Bakersfield have any recreational social skates?
We did just participate in the Holiday Lights Roll Out, in conjunction with Bike Bakersfield, which is an “active transportation” organization here in Bakersfield. Intuition partnered with Chicks in Bowls Bakersfield, Skateland Roller Rink, and the Bakersfield Diamond Divas Roller Derby Team, to participate in the event. It was a success, and Bike Bakersfield contacted us to express interest in continuing to work together in the future! Stay tuned…
How is the aggressive scene in the Bakersfield area?
The aggressive inline scene in Bakersfield and Central California is as healthy as it’s ever been!
What are your most popular selling products?
Our best selling products are Them Skates, Razors, Roces, K2 kids skates (adjustable Boys and Girls skates), all types of wheels and bearings, and Intuition apparel. (Especially the Chris Haffey t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts)
How many recreational skates do you sell compared to aggressive?
We probably sell one pair of recreational, fitness and Tri-Skates for every three to five pairs of aggressive skates that roll out the door.
Where do you see Intuition Skate Shop in the future?
In the future, I see Intuition Skate Shop helping inline skating grow by getting the retail (think try on!) experience into more densely populated areas and major cities. Whether that is through brick and mortar, pop up shops or mobile shops. The biggest hurdle in buying skates is finding the right fit (read: comfort!). If we can overcome the public’s access to trying on skates, the sky is the limit! We all know how amazingly fun skating is, now let’s get more people into comfortable skates and involved in active skating lifestyles!
What are you current personal setups?
My current set up is as classic as a pitcher of sun tea! Razors Cream skates (Cults) with stock liners, Ground Control Featherlite 3 frames, Ground control 64mm outside wheels, Bones Reds bearings (Thanks Green Eyes!), and Dyna B Smith anti rockers. Simple, clean, and dependable.

Top 10 Favorite things about EPCOT.
In honor of the forthcoming 35th anniversary of EPCOT Center, I felt inclined to list out my absolute favorite things about the park. Now bear in mind, given enough time, I could probably list 100 things but due to time and taking into account attention spans, we will suffice for 10. So ready or not, and in no particular order, here they are:
1. So EPCOT is one of my favorite parks to go on a play date with my young daughter, not just cause of the sweet attractions, but also because it has SO MANY air conditioned areas! Seriously, you cannot go far without finding a comfy spot to sit and relax in the cool AC.
2. Like many kids who grew up in central Florida (represent!), I went to EPCOT on a school trip and LOVED it. From the sea life to agriculture to new technology to various represented countries from around the world, I love that around every corner holds the possibility of an amazing educational experience. I sincerely hope that with the new changes in the works at this park that it never loses sight of inspiring the imagination or creativity through education.
3. This park is a speed walkers dream. Let me just say that once I retire I can totally see myself renewing my annual pass partially so I can exercise/walk around it!
4. I love love love Disney Park food. Everything from faux cheese sauce to fine dining and EPCOT is the best, most diverse smorgus board of food awesomeness in a variety of settings. One of my absolute favorite experiences was eating at La Hacienda for my husband and I’s anniversary, being brought complimentary champagne and watching the fireworks through their big bay windows with bellies full of tasty Mexican food.
5. Full disclosure, I have always had this vision of me living on a farm and residing in the cutest little farm house you ever did see, so it should be no surprise that Living with the Land is like my favorite ride at EPCOT. haha It’s peaceful and makes me want to magically develop a green thumb.
6. Canada. Let me make it simple: film starring comedian Martin Short, Le Cellier- aka The best steak house ever, along with the most amazing beer cheese soup, and flannel. Done, done, and done.
7. One of my favorite Disney days ever was going to EPCOT with my family the day after Christmas several years ago. It was cold (for Florida), rainy, and wonderful. Seeing all the lights, and unique, cultural pieces just entice you to wander in and out of every shop you see. Plus, the seasonal Candlelight Processional has become a tradition in our home and is a great way to ring in the magical season.
8. I have a bit of a traveling heart and I don’t do it nearly enough, but EPCOT helps tame that wanderlust spirit I have some times. I look forward to mingling and sampling some of the small pieces of the many cultural offerings the park has to offer, and then leave dreaming of getting my actual passport stamped there some day.
9. Three words: food and wine. Boom. This festival holds a special place in my heart since it played a significant part in the beginnings of my early hangs with my now husband. Our relationship/friendship was forged on late Disney nights, shrimp tacos from Mexico, and casual conversations about films and tv shows. Truth, this festival has the eats and you don't want to miss out. As if it couldn't get any better, the concerts! holy moly! Saw Hanson and Boyz 2 Men, for free might I add, and they blew my mind!
10. Spaceship Earth, both the ride and the symbol, both are iconic to me. It reminds me of the old WDW commercials where at the end you would see Mickey standing on top and waving goodbye. Its nostalgic, architecturally intriguing, and the ride is narrated by Dame Judy Dench which just seems to make your ears perk up and absorb the historical facts throughout the ride.
That’s it. That’s my 10! Let me know what you think and what your favorites are! With that said, I would also like to thank the Phoenicians. Ya know, cause they invented the alphabet which enabled me to write this post in the first place. ;)
