... so here is a little fic;
He let the silence sit for a moment or two, then prompted, “Is there something you want to say, Your Grace?”
She looked back up at him then. “Sometimes, I wish you wouldn’t call me that,” she admitted, voice tight and small.

Sleeping with deer (day 54)
Yesterday was a beautiful but strenuous day!
Roger and I woke up to mist and when I peered out of the tent I saw a pony grazing on the hill where we had pitched the tent. We walked to the beach of Lulworth Cove together, took a last selfie and said goodbye. The week with Roger had sadly gone very quickly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The walk over the pebble beach of the cove was beautiful, almost magical, as the mist was now disappearing in patches.
Tumblr media
I entered the danger zone that was around 12km long, and came past the 'fossil forest', some old tree trunks from the Jurassic period that have turned to stone (see bumps on the first picture). Pretty cool! After a few km, the first challenge awaited me when I had to climb up a steep hill (see second picture). It was the first out of five equally steep hills😬.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Behind the hill, the danger zone started to look more like what Roger had apparently envisioned: There were about 20 old rusty tanks and metal pieces scattered all over heb grass fields. Naturally, it was forbidden to leave the trail.
To the right, I was enjoying the view of the white cliffs, perfectly round coves, and a big sailing boat (laying still).
Tumblr media
At Man O'War Beach it got quite busy, which surprised me at first, but then I realized it was Saturday again. I took an instant-coffee-break at one of the picnic tables, and when I started out again, I was walking right behind a big group of 25 or so day hikers, all with the same orange label on their backpacks. They were all quite young and I remembered Rosa saying that she was member of the student 'outdoor pursuit club' during her Erasmus in Ireland, so I was thinking it could be something like that. They were quite fast even though they were a big group, and stayed around 1km ahead of me all day.
Tumblr media
Some people, like on most days but especially in the weekends, commented on my hiking gear and started talking to me. I had a nice chat with a trail runner who I met twice, once when he came towards me on his way to the start of the danger zone or even Lulworth Cove (?), and once when he overtook me hours later near Chapman's Pool. Quite impressive to do do the whole stretch twice. I also talked to an old, weathered pensionado with deep creases and a friendly smile, who gave me some wild camping tips, and even said that it would be okay to light fires (which I didn't do).
Tumblr media
Me competing with my apple who is redder:
Tumblr media
In the evening, I surpressed my urge to go for the perfectly flat camping spot with an even more perfect view that I had spotted at Seacombe cliff because there were still some people hanging out at this rather popular (climbing) spot. Instead, I looked for a spot between the goarse bushed a few hundred meters further down the path. I found a hidden spot, that was not 100% flat but as I would be alone in the tent I could pick the flattest area to put my sleeping pad. While waiting to pitch my tent, I had a little appreciation moment while looking out on the sea, realizing that this would be my last night wild camping on the SWCP.
In the evening there were three deer looking at me from around 100m up the hill (They looked closer in reality than on the picture;)).
Tumblr media
That day I had walked around 27km, leaving some 18,5 for the next, final day.

obligatory daemon!au time
I'll leave the list and reasonings under the cut
Eddie - Gyrfalcon
They're closely tied with nobility, really good hunters, no nonesense birds, they're very efficient, independent and a tad teritorial.
Susie - Eurasian Lynx
Freaking gorgeous and very dangerous, I don't need to say more but I will, they're resourceful hunters and resilient, kind of loners.
Freddy - Hawk headed Parrot
Funny little guys, they're social and like attention, very vocal and expressive, a little scatterbrained.
Sabrina - Island Fox
She's a sly fox and there's that. They tend to live in tight-knit families, adaptable, confident and cunning.
Bobby - Mandrill
They're hierarchical and cliquish, also very bold and self-serving.
Johnston - Waterbuck
Proud and competitive but cautious. Elegant little fucks.
Tamsin - Jackson's Hornibill
Social and bold, very charming, also a little dramatic.
Jimmy - Big eared Bat
I just thought it was cute. Go with the flow, calm and friendly.
Rosanne - Rufous Hummingbird
Pretty and dainty and fit for a princess but confident, proud and opportunistic.
Jack - dalmatian
Loyal, energetic and impulsive. Look mean but are soft. (I almost gave him a boxer for the joke)
Charlie - Hercules Moth
I don't know much but the vibes I get are calm and gentle, like they'd give good advice lol.
Geoff - Crow
Smart, loyal and cooperative.

Day Seventy-one
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a bright sunny day! Almost too bright, the forecast has some high temperatures so it's time to get slathered in sun block.
After loading up on a good cooked breakfast at the B&B in Preston, it's time to get across the River Ribble and get on ournof the urban labyrinth. A few wrong turns and busy roads but eventually I'm riding out of town following the cycle path as it tracks the A59 southwest.
There's barely a cloud in the sky and the temperature is rising, but the ride along the A road is helped by having some long sections of bike paths alongside periodically, and the flat terrain means it's time to crank the miles out.
The road being lined with hedges and trees does mean a lack of much scenery besides vehicles, but it's a price to be paid to make some good pacing.
It's some solid mileage being put in as the road crosses the River Douglas and I finally turn off the road at Banks, where we finally hit the Ribble Estuary and get a great view back across the water to yesterday's ride, with Blackpool Tower still visible on the horizon.
Further around the corner I get in to Southport, with a beach heaving with holidaymakers enjoying the sea and sun.
Carrying along the coastline, the road runs alongside some big sandy dunes before hitting Ainsdale, where it yhen swings back inland to hit the A565.
Fortunately this busy dual carriageway is well provisioned with fully segregated cycle paths, so I'm able to hrind out some good miles at good pace as the road leads on nice and level.
I take a pit stop for lunch by Formby in order to get some shade and relief from the scorching sun overhead. The rising air temperature is making it a sweaty day, but I'm well provisioned for water.
I head off the main road to swing back to the coastline proper at Hightown, with some nice rides around the dunes here before dropping on to the beachside promenade at Crosby. There are some great views across the water over to Wallasey and the Welsh coastline.
I carry on a ways along Crosby beach before the windswept sand is piled high enough on the path that riding through it becomes impossible, and strike back inland a little.
Liverpool seems very well supplied with cycle routes, but with so many criss-crossing each other it swiftly becomes a pain to work out which one leads where, and I end up just following the A road once more. This still has cycle pathing all along, making for more great progress.
Past tye docklands at Bootle, I have a few weong turns before arriving into the historic city centre of Liverpool, which is bustling in the heat.
I grab a ticket for the ferry across the River Mersey, and join the long queue for the 4pm crossing, which puts us in at Seacombe.
Onwards! There's a simply lovely stretch of non-traffic riding back downriver to New Brighton, which then continues along the promenades past Wallasey.
The hills along the coast of Wales are growing clearer and taller as they draw near, and whilst the temperature is still high the clouds are starting to grow in the sky, giving a welcome break from the sun's rays.
It's finally goodbye to the promenade riding at Hoylake, where the route jumps on to a long, long old rail route that runs all the way back along yhe River Dee Estuary. It's some bumpy going at times with a few gravelly sections, but is still fairly level meaning more miles being eaten up.
At Neston there are a few climbs thrown in, but with a day of level riding the legs are still in good states and these are ascended without any drama.
Past the Ness Botanical Gardens, there's a lovely long zoom downhill with a beautiful view of the Ruver Dee and the hills behind it as the route sails down for a ride through an RSPB nature reserve.
Halfway through the Burton Mere Wetlands, I encounter a very nice looking sign. I've crossed the border into Wales!
Pretty pleased with that! Some solid progress to get this far today, but with the evening setting in I think I've earned a good lie down.
A little scouting around has a nice secluded spot near Deeside Industrial Park, where I'm having a good lie down. The temperature is forecast to still be hitting 20 degrees even by midnight, so I may not even need the sleeping bag tonight! Here's to tomorrow!
TTFN!

To me it'll always be Spike Milligan, Harry Seacombe, and Peter Sellers.
i hate that the word “goon” is associated with guys that jerk off to porn all day now. to me “goon” will always mean burly guys with a thick boston/new york/jersey accent that jump out of bed in black tracksuits and beanies , pick up their favorite crowbar , and carpool with the other goons to work to get their ass beat by batman
