Look what finally came in the mail!!! Ava's Demon! (@avasdemon)

So excited to read it (and re-read volume 1)! The artwork is amazing and the story is so original!
I haven't been very active lately and results can vary, but I've found the most amazing graphic novels and comic books on Kickstarter. I started by supporting a project to reprint Canadian comic books from World War II, including Nelvana of the Northern Lights, one of the first female and an Indigenous superheroines:

(Pictured: Mr. Monster, Brok Windsor, Sally the Sleuth, Fashion in Action, and Johnny Canuck, all reprinted historical comic books)
Then I found this amazing series about post-apocalyptic mice, Scurry (I cannot even describe how amazing the artwork is):

And this retold fairy tale painted entirely in watercolour, Blue Eyes & the Beastling:

Just to name a few! I really love well-done graphic novels and I don't find enough on the market. I've found a ton of amazing ones.

[ID: The title page for Scurry, a comic by Mac Smith. It shows a fierce-looking orange mouse named Wix and a worried-looking white mouse named Pict walking bipedally across a pile of garbage. They seem to know that something is wrong, but haven't yet noticed the large black-and-orange striped housecat with a scarred face looming over them, mouth open wide to bite. The background is foggy and indistinct, but seems to show a pine forest and a collapsed house. End ID.]
A few days ago I watched OSP's Small Mammal on a Big Adventure Trope Talk, and on a spiritual level my ears perked up in interest at Red's discussion of a webcomic about mice scavenging in the ruins of a postapocalyptic world with absolutely no understanding of what happened or where all the humans have gone. Since then I've basically been reading Scurry at every free moment, and I now adore it. It's complete for now, a solid story with a beginning, middle and end, with engaging characters and beautiful art the whole way through. Balancing making animals look realistic while also emoting in a recognizably human fashion is tricky, but Mac Smith really makes it work, and I especially love the ways the different kinds of animals filter what's happened to their world through their own understanding. I am especially enchanted by Atlas, the moose that Wix befriends, a gentle giant compared to basically every other character, but not one to be trifled with when the wolves start getting a bit too ambitious about their dinner. I love all of the art and designs but a special shout-out to this specific wolf, who has just discovered that the comic also has a bear in it:

[ID: A grey wolf with light blue eyes, very wide, mouth closed and pulled back in a tight grimace to give him an oddly human and very silly expression of terror as he nopes out of the situation. End ID.]
