My dream is for Florence Welch to star in at least one episode of Doctor Who especially since the 15th Doctor is so musical. The music videos prove that Welch can act. Or at least for a Florence + The Machine song to be used in one of the new episodes.

Happy Birthday one of Scotland’s most gifted singers Ann “Annie” Lennox, born December 25th 1954.
Born in Summerfield Maternity hospital, Aberdeen, the daughter of Dorothy (née Ferguson) and Thomas Allison Lennox Annie showed talent from an early aged, she won a scholarship at the age of 17 for The Royal Academy of Music in London.
From a fortuitous chance encounter with Dave Stewart in the early seventies, the pair went on to form The Tourists, who ultimately achieved significant success in the UK, Europe and Australia.
It was not until the break up of the band in ’79 however, that Annie and Dave decided to form a duo, calling themselves “Eurythmics”.
They released their first album, “In the Garden” in 1981, but it was not until the worldwide success of their second album, (Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This) in 1983, that Eurythmics became the musical phenomenon we know today.
Eurythmics went on to sell over 75 million albums, and achieved over 20 international hits across the world.
In 1990, Annie released her debut solo album entitled “Diva”. Entering the charts at number 1 in the UK, the album sold around six million copies world wide, (including two and a half million in the USA). Diva included the Top 10 singles Why, Walking On Broken Glass and Little Bird
In 1995, her second album was released, entitled “Medusa”. An album of lovingly crafted reinterpretations of some of Lennox’s favourite songs. It also debuted at number one, and included the massive single No More I Love You’s, Medusa sold around 5 million copies.
Annie is an Ambassador for UNAIDS, Oxfam, Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Campaign, Amnesty International, The British Red Cross, London as well as supporting numerous other organisations.
In September 2008 Annie Lennox hosted the launch of the Amnesty Arts Fund. The Amnesty Arts Fund brings together people who believe passionately in freedom of expression and projects that inspire creative activism around the world. She has won many awards, for her music and for the work she does does for good causes and charity.
Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart performed as Eurythmics at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California performing "Would I Lie to You?", "Missionary Man" and "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" as part of the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. They were inducted by U2's the Edge.
Fans of the Annie will be glad to know that she will be playing a gig in London. Entitled Sisters: Annie Lennox And Friends, the one-off concert will support The Circle, raising funds to help women and girls facing violence and injustice worldwide.
There had been news of a Eurythmics reunion and 40th anniversary tour, but it has failed to materialise. Dave Stewart continues to tour as Dave Stewart Eurythmics.

SUNDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “Frontiers of Love” (live)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxQiamHKnPQ -- This song imagines walking through the night-time across a dark, windy landscape, drawn by the promise of a warmly lit window glimmering on the horizon. The music emerged from when I was in a Celtic/Irish/Scottish music phase, and it blooms from a holy heart-place. It has been a staple of my live set for many years. I made a "full band" demo of it, then it found new life solo-acoustic, played on a detuned 12-string in an open C tuning. A couple people have detected a Yes influence in this, which I won’t deny, but (truth being specific) it was largely inspired by "A Sort of Homecoming” by U2.

“come gather round assholes and chop me a line i'll tell you a tale of a good friend of mine  ... there's a chain that is snaking all through our dreams it wraps round our eyes and shuts out moonbeams and my young heart was twisted by dark sexual games and the terminal shadow of heartache and stain ... now i live among lost men with winding down lives i sleep on their sofas and feel up their wives i wake late in the morning with a scream in my skull i shuffle to the kitchen but the knives are all dull” (Night Lillies by Jackie Leven)

A British-guy friend of mine (about Piers Morgan's age, soft spoken, bespectacled, British-guy is his subspecies) writes comedy songs which he sings in clubs in Aberdeen with his ukulele. One of his greatest hits is an ode to Gregs Vegan Sausage Rolls (and the only one that he says strangers routinely join in with by the end) has the following chorus: "You can do it for the planet - eat an eco-friendly meal! Do it for the animals roaming in the fields, But above all, it's a matter of national importance: Do it to annoy Piers Morgan!"

January 4th 2011 saw Scotland lose one of it’s most talented singer/songwriters when Gerry Rafferty passed away.
Gerry Rafferty came across as a shy, introverted performer, he did little publicity and promotion for his music, preferring to place himself inside the recording studios, and letting the songs speak for themselves.
His introverted ways even went as far as to preferring art work for his albums depriving fans of photos of himself, although ‘Night Owl’ did feature some pics of Gerry in the studio on the LP’s sleeve. He was unlike any 'pop’ artist of the time, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Billy Joel and Paul McCartney were singers whose images were front and centre of their music and fame. Gerry struggled with fame and with alcoholism and depression and the increasingly erratic behaviour they spawned. Perhaps his upbringing didn’t help.
Rafferty was born in Paisley, an unwanted third son. His father, Joseph, was an Irish-born miner. His mother, Mary Skeffington, whose name would provide a Rafferty song title, dragged young Gerry round the streets on Saturday nights so that they would not be at home when his father came back drunk. They would wait outside, in all weathers, until he had fallen asleep, to avoid a beating. “If it wasn’t for you, I’d leave,” Mary told Gerry. Joseph died in 1963, when Gerry was 16.
Alcohol often played a part in Gerry’s songwriting, “One Drink Down”, “Baker Street”, and “Night Owl” at the time of writing these his marriage was struggling, it eventually ended in divorce in 1990 but they had been apart for some time, his ex-wife Carla said: “There was no hope. I would never have left him if there’d been a glimmer of a chance of him recovering.”
In July 2008 while staying in the five-star Westbury Hotel in Mayfair he began a four-day drinking session that left his room extensively damaged. Speaking to The Independent newspaper later, the hotel’s director commented: “It was such a shame. In person, Mr Rafferty was a really nice man, he kept himself to himself and didn’t bother the other guests but he was clearly on a downward spiral. He was in self-destruct mode.”
Conflicting reports and statements from his solicitors included a stay in St Thomas’ Hospital suffering from a chronic liver condition, brought on by heavy drinking, a newspaper reported that the hospital said he had left the hospital leaving all his belongings there and he had been reported missing, this proved to be false and the truth was he was moving from one London hotel to another. During this time, he met Enzina Fuschini, an Italian artist living in Dorset. Rafferty and Fuschini rented a large home together in Upton, near Poole, Fuschini claims she cared for the singer during 2009 and tried to help him overcome his alcoholism, and that he proposed to her at the Ritz Hotel in Paris on Christmas Eve that year.
In November 2010, Rafferty was admitted to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital where he was put on a life-support machine and treated for multiple organ failure. After being taken off life support, Rafferty rallied for a short time, and doctors thought that he might recover. Rafferty died of liver failure at the home of his daughter Martha in Stroud, Gloucestershire, on 4 January 2011.
A requiem mass was held in St Mirins Cathedral in Paisley on January 21st, attended by many politicians, and musical friends through the years, people from all over the world came to Paisley and listened to the mass, a spontaneous round of applause rung out as his coffin was driven away to the towns Woodside Crematorium, Gerry’s ashes were taken to the Holy Island of Iona and scattered, a sad loss to Scotland.
The following year Barbara Dickson Jack Bruce and the Proclaimers joined others along with the Rafferty Family for a tribute performance held Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.

Imagine if your dreams had a soundtrack? If you could hear that abstract painting you love play for you? If the sea, the wind, the rain, the thunder, the lightning, the sunset could make music of their own? How would that be? What would they say? It’s really just a Scots/Irish guy with a guitar and a few effects pedals, but Stephen isn’t just a singer/songwriter, though he’s that too. There’s a…
