Thoughts on Hayden Christensen?
He’s pretty damn awesome! Like he did a phenomenal job in all the Star Wars stuff he’s done. He doesn’t get enough credit for how good a job he did.
I hope he’s happy doing whatever he’s doing right now.

Welcome to DailyJSA's JSA Member Tournament!
Sixty four enter, one takes the crown!
These are characters who were either explicitly stated to be members of the JSA, or very involved with the team to the point that they're basically a member (mainly applies to Thunderbolt). Some are in a grey area due to retcons (such as Hippolyta) or were barely involved with the team, but they still count. Batman, Wonder Woman (Diana), Superman, and Robin have been excluded from this tournament to give other less popular characters a fair chance.
These initial matchups were made with a randomizer to be as fair as possible.
Each week, a round of polls will be posted. All polls will be a week long.
Since there are so many matchups to start, Round One will be split into two parts. The matchups are below the cut for those who may have trouble reading the bracket.
Feel free to send in an ask if you have any questions.

The new gig heralded a big reunion between the fast and furious driver and Chicago P.D. co-creator Matt Olmstead, who writes and executive produces on FBI: International.
“There’s so much action, the first episode is great,” he teased. “When Matt and I first started talking about doing this, we discussed who this character was going to be. I love Matt’s writing, which was one of the biggest draws for me to do this. He delivered; that first episode was so much fun and it felt like a pilot.”
He continued, “When you meet Wes, he’s in this complicated relationship and he’s obviously married to his work. You’ll see his girlfriend throwing out his shit because she thinks he’s cheating but he’s not. He’s just a hard worker but they get into this fight, and that’s how the episode starts. When he goes off afterward with his partner, who’s a close buddy, they get involved in a shooting when they’re chasing this robbery crew. But when his partner gets shot, Wes becomes a man on fire and chases these guys to Budapest. He reconnects with Cameron Vo (Vinessa Vidotto) there, with whom he has this whole backstory…The episode is packed with a lot of characters, backstories and a lot of action. It’s a great starting point for this new season of FBI: International and this new energy.”
The “new energy” arrives following the exit of Luke Kleintank, who led the series as Scott Forrester across the show’s first three seasons. Forrester made his final appearance in episode 11 on May 7 and his character was written off in the finale of Season 3 as having gone on the run with his mother with the pair heading to Alaska. In the final beats of the finale, the Fly Team fully welcomes Tank (Green) into the fold and is adopted by Raines (Carter Redwood). Does that mean he could be returning for a meet-and-greet with Wes?
“Wes meets Tank and Tank signs off on Wes,” Soffer confirms. “Everything is cool so hopefully that gets me some street cred with the fans. Trust me, I know Tank is the star of the show. We had a really cozy, cuddly scene in the second episode, so hopefully that will be a treat for the fans.”
In addition to the beloved black Giant Schnauzer, Soffer will also be joined on the show by his friend and Station 19 star Jay Hayden, who will portray Agent Tyler Booth in episodes to air later in the season, as we reported in September.
“You have no idea how exciting it is. It’s so cool,” he said of working with Hayden. “Jay is one of my best friends for over 15 years. We studied acting together, we taught together. We used to coach each other on auditions. We were both on TV at the same time, but I was in Chicago and he was in Los Angeles, so we hung out during hiatuses. It’s a dream come true that we get to work together on the same show. I hope the fans like our dynamic.”
Soffer further teased that Wes and Tyler “have a really cool backstory” and “have been through some shit together.”
He continued, “Wes marches to the beat of his own drum and doesn’t always do things the right way. He doesn’t go by procedure and is more like, ‘Yeah, we’re gonna get it done and we will figure out if there’s a solution somewhere.’ Jay’s character Tyler is even worse than that. He’s like, ‘We’ll do the wrong thing to get it done…’ For Wes, Tyler is his bad angel and Smitty [Eva-Jane Willis] is the good angel because he’s somewhere in the middle.”
With Wes and Soffer’s Chicago P.D. character Jay Halstead both being law enforcement professionals in the Dick Wolf Universe, it was inevitable that both were present in Soffer’s mind when he was shooting.
“[Playing Wes], was both easy and hard at the same time. It’s tricky because they’re both cops, so their situations, their procedures and their lines of dialog and [using technical terms] like, putting out a BOLO or giving a description of somebody, all those cop thoughts are the same,” Soffer said. “The easy part is that Halsted had so much baggage at the end of P.D. and had been put through the wringer and was such a brooding, dark character. But Wes is like a breath of fresh air; he’s much lighter, carefree, and kind of unaffected. I have joked a couple of times that they do hold the gun the same way.”
Seeing Soffer with a new love interest on FBI: International caught me a little off guard as a long-time Chicago P.D. watcher who half expected Haley (Tracy Spiridakos) to appear—no disrespect to the actress who plays his love interest in the series. Hey, it’s an Upstead thing and Haley did leave P.D. for a job with the FBI. Although Soffer is not playing Halstead anymore, it could be a fresh start for both Haley and Wes.
“Hypothetically, she exists in this universe,” Soffer said of Haley. “And if she ever showed up in Budapest, Wes would be like, ‘Do I know you?'”
He added, “Hey, you never know.”

PASS TO INFODUMP ABOUT OAKSPORT, I WANNA KNOW THE LORE
-cosmo
for those not in the know, check out the oaksport folder on toyhouse here!
from left to right: Hayden Hunter, Aziz Nasif, Gabriel Rasgado, Noah Hughes
some of you may remember a little thing called bricks and border, which was a campy AU based on many youtubers on the nerdy chronically online screenwave/newgrounds side of things. it starred fictionalized versions of caddicarus and scott the woz and many others. however, as many youtubers in that neck of the woods kept getting exposed for stuff, i felt icky writing it and decided to file off the serial numbers. and with that, oaksport was born!
oaksport is a potential webcomic i'm planning out. i also want to make flash animated shorts for it - the art style is meant to slightly resemble 2000s newgrounds stuff. this project is a slow burn but i really want it to come to fruition at some point. sometimes i dream about it being an adult swim series lol.
it takes place in a large city in the mid-atlantic area called oaksport, which seems normal on the surface but actually has some wild secrets behind it.
its newly-appointed mayor is harrison hunter, formerly the Retro Gaming Asshole, an OG internet celebrity who created videos of himself raging at retro video games. his younger brother, hayden hunter, has recently lost his big-time dream job in the city and is stuck working at the local retro game store with a cranky boss and drama-obsessed co-workers. however, he repeatedly notices a strange british man who keeps occasionally showing up near his apartment and his workplace. once he confronts him, he's whisked into a world of adventure and mysteries beyond his wildest dreams.
it's a comedy-drama-mystery with all sorts of wild things happening, but it also has a lot of heart and emotion. basically if you like scott pilgrim, smiling friends, and gravity falls, you're gonna like this.

Age of Wonders
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/cTpFCi5 by SuperJimmy978 In 1945, the superhero team known as the Liberty Brigade made their final stand against Hydra, thwarting their final plan to win the Second World War. However, for decades, this was thought to come at the cost of their leader, Captain America. It was believed that he had made the ultimate sacrifice, for the good of the world. The world was proven wrong when Steve Rogers was found by the new premier superhero team, the Vanguard of Justice. Led by a man from the stars known as Superman, the Vanguard of Justice brings Captain America into their team and works to help him adjust to the modern world. But Captain America is not the only relic from the past to resurface. HYDRA has been hiding in the shadows since WWII. And now, led by a superhuman known as Albrecht Krieger, they seek to finally bring the world to their rule, with only the Vanguard of Justice able to stand in their way. IDW Debuts the Haunting Cover Artwork to May’s Dark Spaces: Good Deeds #1
Since its initial announcement at San Diego Comic-Con last summer, Dark Spaces: Good Deeds—the second comic book miniseries in New York Times best-selling author Scott Snyder’s curated line of IDW original projects—has been shrouded in secrecy. This eerie historical thriller of obsession, power, and redemption carefully kept from the public, waiting for just the right time to surface…and that time is now!
In anticipation of the series launch in May, IDW unveiled the ethereal cover artwork for the first issue of Dark Spaces: Good Deeds, giving the first tantalizing taste of the six-issue miniseries written by Che Grayson (Batman: Urban Legends), with art by Kelsey Ramsay (Joan Jett and the Black Hearts, I Love Rock-n-Roll), and colors by Ronda Pattison (Dark Spaces: Wildfire). “The most rewarding part of overseeing Dark Spaces is watching the ascendant talent of newcomers evolve from ideas into incredible new comic books,” says Snyder. “Che and Kelsey have crafted a pitch-perfect, soul-searing mystery in Good Deeds. It’s the perfect story to expand the Dark Spaces line to visionary new creators…and it’s only the first of more to come.”
The unifying theme of Scott Snyder’s Dark Spaces line is the exploration of decisions made—and irreversible actions taken—by desperate people in desperate situations. Each character-driven entry in the Dark Spaces anthology series is a fully contained, standalone story written or curated by Snyder, championing the new generation of comic creators.
As testament to Dark Spaces’ commitment to up-and-coming talent, Good Deeds #1 features evocative covers from a gifted handpicked team, including series artist Ramsay, Elizabeth Beals (Star Trek: The Next Generation—Terra Incognita), Hayden Sherman (Dark Spaces: Wildfire), and Martin Morazzo (Ice Cream Man) with colors by Chris O’Halloran. In Good Deeds, teenager Cheyenne Rite and her mother, Rebecca, move to St. Augustine, Florida, in search of a fresh start. They cross paths with Jean McKnight, a disgraced big-city journalist determined to rebuild her career, starting with a fluff piece on the town’s upcoming 450th anniversary celebration. When the quaint community’s festivities give way to bloodshed, Jean begins an investigation, and the women find themselves at the heart of a supernatural conspiracy linked to St. Augustine’s sinister colonial past.
“I’m incredibly excited to get this into the hands of horror fans who are searching for a story that will be scary and thought-provoking in equal measure,” says Grayson. “I’ve always been drawn to stories where flawed characters find themselves thrust in the middle of a mystery. But the only way they can uncover the truth of that mystery is if they face their own dark secrets. I hope that readers find Jean’s journey really satisfying as she searches for meaning in the world and in her own life.”
“It’s been such an effortless collaboration with this absolute powerhouse of a team,” says Ramsay. “I am beyond excited for when Good Deeds reaches readers, and I can only hope our story spooks readers into loving it!” “Scott and I are thrilled to see Che and Kelsey thriving in the Dark Spaces spotlight. They ran with the challenge of following Wildfire, and their work in Good Deeds exemplifies the vision for this line. It’s a razor-sharp and unsettling story told fearlessly by creators on the verge of becoming the industry’s next household names. The mystery of Cheyenne and Jean’s unusual partnership haunts every page, and we can’t wait to share it with readers,” says senior editor Maggie Howell.
For information on how to acquire Dark Spaces comic books from IDW, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.
About the Creators Che Grayson is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker, writer, and TED speaker whose work is heavily inspired by their love of folklore and horror. Che has written comics for Image, IDW, and DC. A graduate of New York University’s MFA film program, they wrote and directed the award-winning film Magic Hour, which premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival. Che has worked as a writer for Netflix, Nickelodeon, and Skydance Animation and is currently in development for a new animated TV series.
Kelsey Ramsay is a comic artist and illustrator from London, UK. Her work is featured in Joan Jett and the Black Hearts 40x40: Bad Reputation/I Love Rock ’n’ Roll (Z2 Comics) and Fab Breakout Book: Mad World (StoryWorld Media).

Native American Authors of Dark Fiction
Since my Black Horror Writers post was so well-received, I thought it would be a good idea to make a similar list for Native American authors. No Sherman Alexie or N. Scott Momaday here (although they’re good too) -- here are some contemporary authors you probably haven’t heard of but who you should totally be supporting. The list is a bit of a mix of horror, sci-fi, fantasy and contemporary fiction, but I’ve focused as usual on darkly imaginative stories. Enjoy!
Stephen Graham Jones A Blackfeet author of horror and crime fiction, SGJ is both prolific -- with more than 20 books to his name -- and magnificently talented. You might want to start with Mongrels, which gives a fresh spin on the werewolf genre, or you can skip ahead to this year's release The Only Good Indians -- a heart-pounding supernatural thriller with a classic slasher pace.
Owl Goingback An author of horror and crime fiction for adults and children, Goingback specializes in stories that are high-horror, low-gore. Start at the beginning with Crota, which won a Stoker for "Best First Novel," or jump to the present with the Stoker-award-winning "Coyote Rage."
Cynthia Leitich Smith Writing for children and young adults, Smith is a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation. If you like urban fantasy, you'll probably enjoy her Tantalize and Feral series, which give you all the shapeshifter/vampire/angel goodness you could ask for. If you'd rather go for something more classically Native, try Rain Is Not My Indian Name, a contemporary coming-of-age type novel.
Cherie Dimaline A Métis writer and activist hailing from Canada, Dimaline considers herself first and foremost a writer of Indigenous stories. Her books aren't shy about exploring themes of colonialism and genocide -- consider The Marrow Thieves, a dark dystopia about Indigenous people who are hunted and harvested for the properties of their bones. Or you might enjoy Empire of Wild, which draws on the Métis story of the Rogarou - a werewolf-like creature with a rich folklore history tracing through the mixed heritage of the Métis people.
Waubgeshig Rice An Anishinaabe writer from the Wasauksing First Nation in Ontario, Rice is a journalist and author of dark fiction. Start with Moon of the Crusted Snow, which is a brooding post-apocalyptic thriller set in Canada.
Rebecca Roanhorse OK, Roanhorse is kind of a controversial listing here. Some critics take issue with the way she portrays fictionalized, fantastical reimaginings of traditional mythology from a culture she is not intimately part of (she married a Navajo man and claims some Ohkay Owingeh ancestry but there's some dispute about that). But a lot of people (especially young readers) think her books are badass and really give a face to their experiences. I'll leave it up to you to decide. You'll probably want to start with Race to the Sun, which is this year's novel, but Trail of Lightning and Black Sun are much-loved fan favorites, too. If you'd rather just enjoy her writing without venturing into the argument about her use of cultural elements, she also writes Star Wars books.
Darcie Little Badger A scientist and author from the Lipan Apache tribe, Little Badger is a member of the Indigenous Futurism movement, imagining Native characters in sci-fi settings that honor historical and cultural perpsectives. She's also noteworthy for her LGBT+ inclusion. She's mostly known for short fiction and comic books, but she does have a novel this year -- Elatsoe, set in an alternate version of America filled with ghosts and magic.
Tommy Orange A member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Nations of Oklahoma, Orange is a pretty new name on the scene. His book There There is more literary, having been a Pulitzer finalist in 2019, so you might not be as into it if you're primarily a genre reader. But it's a hard-hitting contemporary narrative twisting together multiple stories, and a downright ambitious debut. Keep an eye on this one.
Daniel Wilson A robotics engineer and New York Times best-selling author, Wilson is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. He writes Asimov-style hard sci-fi about robots, which he's more than a little qualified to do! Start with Robopocalypse, which is an action-packed horror-scifi romp.
Drew Hayden Taylor A Canadian playright and author with Ojibwe heritage, Taylor likes to joke about his mixed-race background. His writing covers a whole spectrum from plays, short stories and even graphic novels. If you're looking for a book, The Night Wanderer is a good choice -- a vampire Gothic set on a reservation.
Louise Erdrich A member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, Erdrich is widely acclaimed as an author in the Native American Renaissance. Like Tommy Orange, her books are more on the literary side of things, but there's plenty to enjoy for genre fans as well. For my money, I say start with Future Home of the Living God, which is a dark dystopian apocalypse about evolution running backwards and a woman struggling to keep her baby safe.
As always, reblog with your recommendations and suggestions for any names I left off the list!
