Idk how I managed to give Lodge a perfect character design but you can 100% tell I was watching futurama when I designed them. I’m obsessed with taking a character who can express minimal emotion and then somehow getting so much out of them. Comedic timing is my passion.

WIP Intro | Sundial Fates

Genre: Sci-fi Western

Vibes: pulp sci-fi, adventure, time travel shenanigans, parallel universes, aliens, mad scientists, the desert as a metaphor for time

Sable is where all the weird things happen, or so people say. A young woman is sent to live here with her aunt but wants desperately to leave. A merchant's son who's lived here all his life dreams of adventure. An outlaw who doesn't belong here has a gun and something to prove. And then a time machine crashes outside of town and ruins everything. Thus begins the tale of how Tristán, Wade, and Christina learned to travel in time as well as space with the aid of a magical sundial (correction: NOT magical -CS) and became reluctant saviors of the Earth(s). This story includes: - an eccentric inventor who used to be a Roman legionnaire - an alien invasion - several towns named Sable - at least two of everyone - revenge All they've got to do is learn to get along, learn not to look into the space outside the universe, and try not to die, and everything should be fine. Hopefully.

This is my oldest WIP and one I've had a lot of fun with. I worked on it so much in high school and while it's undergone quite a few changes since then, the heart of it remains the same. Ever since I can remember, I've been in love with the desert and the geography of southern Utah, so that's where this story is mainly set. You might also notice a few of my other WIPs are also set in modern day Sable. This town's got quite a lot of history of weird stuff happening in it.

Are you named after anyone?

I gave mys-s-self the name, from a book I read. My, ugh, tribe….gave me a name that trans-s-slates to ‘worthless-s.’ Didn’t want me reading. They wanted me to hunt and kill. I don’t like that barbaric tradition.

When was the last time you cried?

After my tribe was-s-s killed, but that’s-s not what did it. I hated them. What did it was-s my found family abandoning me on their s-ship after killing mine, leaving me all alone on a dying planet.

Do you have any kids?

Kids-s? Our rac-ce can definitely bear children, but I haven’t planned on it. I have a lot of other….uh….problems-s to worry about.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Nooooooo, not at ALL~ What EVER gave you that idea-?

What is the first thing you notice about people?

If they fear me. I’m not, uh…my kind is-s not known to be…c-civilized like me. I try to tell people that I’m not going to hurt them, but I can tell…the fear in their body. Even though I’m like 5’5 and not built like a truck like Johnny. But…people fear what they do not know. They s-see an alien and automatically think I’m going to eat them….or they as-sume becaus-se I have a hard time talking, that I’m an idiot or don’t unders-stand them. I’m trying really hard to break down thos-se preconc-ceived notions-s of me.

What is your eye color?

All black. Like s-sunflower s-seeds-s—DAMN it!! People are pretty afraid of that. Not Johnny, though….although he initially wanted to turn me in….He was-s the firs-st one who told me he liked my eyes-s….

Any special talents?

I can read. Usually I read longer things-s for Johnny. He told me, in that drawl, ahem… “I ain’t never met a Floran who could read before. You’re a different one, aintcha?” Hahaha~

Scary movies or happy endings?

I always-s loved books-s with a happy ending. I dunno…it jus-st….(sigh)…made me realiz-ze how much I wanted that for me.

Where were you born?

I read in a book that the name of my planet was-s: “Nebulaflora Minoris-s I”….but that planet has-s long frozen over….and if it weren’t for Johnny finding that planet, finding me, and hauling my dying body aboard, I’d’ve probably joined my awful tribe under the fros-st.

Do you have any pets?

I made a companion out of an arctic fox-x once, but….jus-st like me, it was-s s-starving….(gasp)…p-poor thing didn’t s-s-survive the winter…I found her dead after a failed hunt…and I….I….I had to eat…I—I!! (gasp) I’m s-s-so s-s-sorry, V-Vulpa….

How tall are you?

5’5. I don’t know why people fear me; I can barely lift a bag of flour. Johnny told me we’ll work on my s-strength, though…

What was your favorite subject in school?

I had to teach mys-self. My family didn’t like it when I s-studied, s-so I had to do a lot of that in s-secret. I love reading….I’m glad I carried books-s with me following the cold months-s after the tribe was-s killed….for a moment, in the brief time I thought I would die alone on that planet…thos-se s-stories by the fire kept me hopeful….that I would es-scape. Thank you, Johnny.

What is your dream job?

I haven’t thought about it. I’m jus-st happy to be alive and travel with Johnny. Wherever he goes-s, I’ll go, too. We’re bounty hunters-s now…hah…I guess-s I became a hunter after all….

Are you named after anyone?

[exhales] Maybe after a grandfather that I didn't get to know? My mother never talked much about our family. Maybe I'll skip this one.

When was the last time you cried?

Do you have any kids?

Yes! Allison just turned seven. She's just the best. [smiles]

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

When I do say something ironic or sarcastic, people tend to not understand me correctly right away... so I try not to. It's too awkward.

What is the first thing you notice about people?

Whether or not they're friendly.

What is your eye color?

Blue! Couple of baby blues.

Any special talents?

I used to play the piano. I don't know if that counts as a talent? [laughs] I do still play the guitar from time to time. And I used to sing.

Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings! [lying]

Where were you born?

Westfield Hospital, Massachusetts. It's the nearest hospital from my hometown Hillsburg.

Do you have any pets?

Sadly no! I would love to have a dog, but I don't have the time. I volunteer at Helping Paw – I don't think you've heard of it, it's a tiny dog shelter just outside of Hillsburg. We've got some amazing dogs there.

How tall are you?

6'1. I'm told I'd be taller if my posture wasn't this bad.

What was your favorite subject in school?

English, if I had to choose, I guess. Loved the theater club though! I was even in a high school band! [laughs]

What is your dream job?

Tough question! I'd love to have my own shelter someday. But the job I'm working right now isn't too bad, so I don't think about... dreams, I guess. Aw, man, that sounds depressing! [laughs]

I'm still a firm believer Orange made a mistake by changing the sci-fi esthetic of trimax. They lost so much man. Like the raw mix between flesh and metal. The Biopunk disturbance of it all. It mattered.

And It's still there don't get me wrong (you could not fully remove it if you tried) but it's not as.. disturbing, as deviant ? Even though, it's supposed to be! It's the core of the story isn't it?

Living beings used as machines and treated even worst!
