2022-2023 Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships
The Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships are designed for outstanding Indians to pursue a master’s degree program at select U.S. colleges and universities in the areas of Arts and Culture Management including Heritage Conservation and Museum Studies; Economics; Environmental Science/Studies; Higher Education Administration; International Affairs; International Legal Studies; Journalism and Mass Communication; Public Administration; Public Health; Urban and Regional Planning; and Women’s Studies/Gender Studies.
These fellowships are for highly motivated individuals who demonstrate leadership qualities, have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree, have at least three years of professional work experience, and are committed to return and contribute to their communities. The fellowships are for one to two years.
Grant Benefits
The fellowship will provide the following benefits:
J-1 visa support;
Round-trip economy class air travel from fellow’s home city to the host institution in the U.S.;
Funding for tuition and fees,* living and related costs; and
Accident and sickness coverage per U.S. Government guidelines.
The Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowships provide no financial support for dependents.
* USIEF funding may not cover all costs and the fellow may need to supplement grant benefits with other resources.
Eligibility Requirements
In addition to the General Prerequisites, the applicants:
– must have completed an equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a recognized Indian university with at least 55% marks. Applicants must either possess a four-year bachelor’s degree or a completed master’s degree; or a full-time postgraduate diploma from a recognized Indian institution if the bachelor’s degree is of less than four years’ duration;
– must have at least three years’ full-time (paid) professional work experience relevant to the proposed field of study by the application deadline;
– should demonstrate experience in leadership and community service;
– must not have another degree from a U.S. university or be enrolled in a U.S. degree program; and
– if employed, should follow the instructions carefully regarding employer’s endorsement. If applicable, obtain the endorsement from the appropriate administrative authority on the FNMasters Employer’s Endorsement Form. The employer must indicate that leave will be granted for the fellowship period. The applicant can download the FNMasters Employer’s Endorsement Form from the USIEF website.
Fields of Study
Each applicant must choose one field of study that matches his/her chief area of interest. The following field descriptions are illustrative, and applicants should note that individual academic host institution programs of study may differ in course offerings, subspecialties, and academic requirements.
Applications are invited on the following fields only:
– Arts and Culture Management including Heritage Conservation and Museum Studies: The study of all aspects of art and culture management, including arts administration, heritage conservation and museum studies, management of profit and not-for-profit art institutions, among others. These fellowships are not for pursuing graduate degrees in fine or applied art and design or art history, but for the management of the arts.
– Economics: The study of production, demand and allocation of resources in society, economic trends, effects of government economic policy on the economy. Subspecialties include: development economics, international economics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, labor economics, agricultural economics, and public finance, among others.
– Environmental Science/Studies: The study of the environment in all its complexities. Subspecialties include: environmental toxicology, natural resource management, pollution prevention, environmental law, environmental engineering and environmental policy analysis, among others.
– Higher Education Administration: The study of all aspects of higher education administration including policy planning and management, student affairs, academic affairs, admissions and enrollment management, curriculum design, learning assessment, financial management, alumni and community relations, internationalization of higher education, quality assurance, and use of technology in higher education, among others.
– International Affairs: The study of international relations with reference to foreign policy, conflict resolution, international security and strategic issues, international economic policy, environmental and energy policy, refugee and migration issues, human rights, and gender policy, among others.
– International Legal Studies: The study of all aspects of international legal studies including business law, commercial and trade law, employment and labor law, environmental law, global health law, human rights, intellectual property rights and law, international organizations, securities and financial regulations, litigation law, and tax law, among others.
– Journalism and Mass Communication: The study of all aspects of journalism and mass communication, including individual and convergent media platforms such as print, broadcast, and new media. Subspecialties include: media management, print journalism, online journalism, broadcast (radio, television, internet) journalism, and communications research and strategy among others.
– Public Administration: The study of management as it relates to the government sector (local, state, federal) or organizations serving the public. Subspecialties include policy analysis, non-profit management, international development, public sector management, public finance, healthcare management, and city/urban development, among others.
– Public Health: The study of all aspects of public health including biostatistics, environmental and occupational health, epidemiology, health law, bioethics and human rights, health policy and management, public health delivery systems, international health, and reproductive, maternal and child health, among others.
– Urban and Regional Planning: The study of all aspects of urban and regional planning, including sustainable infrastructure, transportation policy, planning and improvements, water and sanitation, town and rural planning, equitability, public space programing and governance, land use, community visioning, urban resilience, housing and real estate development, and waste management, among others.
– Women’s Studies/Gender Studies: The study of issues relevant to women, feminism, and gender including development, health, history, education, sexuality, law, and policy, among others.

2022-2023 Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships
The Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships are designed for Indian scholars who are registered for a Ph.D. at an Indian institution. These fellowships are for six to nine months.
Applications are invited in the following fields only:
Agricultural Sciences; Anthropology; Bioengineering; Chemistry; Computer Science (including, but not limited to, cyber security, digital economy, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data analytics); Economics; Education Policy and Planning; Energy Studies; Geography (including GIS and Geology); History; Language and Literature; Materials Science (with emphasis on environmental applications); Mathematical Sciences; Neurosciences; Performing Arts; Physics; Political Science (including, but not limited to, International Security and Strategic Studies); Public Health; Public Policy; Sociology; Urban and Regional Planning (with emphasis on smart cities and waste management); Visual Arts; and Women’s and Gender Studies.
Affiliation
The applicant will be affiliated to one U.S. host institution for his/her grant. USIEF strongly recommends all applicants to identify institutions with which they wish to be affiliated and to correspond, in advance, with potential host institutions. If applicant has secured a letter of invitation from a U.S. institution, s/he must include it as a part of the online application.
Grant Benefits
The fellowships provide J-1 visa support, a monthly stipend, Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges per U.S. Government guidelines, round-trip economy class air travel, applicable allowances and modest affiliation fees, if any. Selected scholars will have opportunities to audit non-degree courses, conduct research and gain practical work experience in suitable settings in the U.S. No allowances are provided for dependents. The grant is not sufficient to support family members.
Eligibility Requirements
In addition to the General Prerequisites:
– the applicant should have done adequate research in the relevant field, especially in the identification of resources in India and the U.S. Applicant must be registered for Ph.D. at an Indian institution on or before November 2, 2020. On the online application form, one of the recommendation letters must be from the Ph.D. supervisor that comments on applicants’ research, need for the fellowship, and must indicate the Ph.D. registration date and topic;
– this grant is intended for Ph.D. students to conduct research essential to their dissertations/thesis. Therefore, the expected Ph.D. thesis submission date should atleast be three months after the Fulbright-Nehru grant end date. For example, if May 2023 is the grant end date, the applicant cannot submit his/her thesis before August 2023. Please indicate the Ph.D. registration date and the expected Ph.D. thesis submission date in the Applicant Annexure. The applicant can download the Applicant Annexure from the USIEF website;
– if the applicant is employed, s/he must follow the instructions carefully regarding employer’s endorsement. If applicable, please obtain the endorsement from the appropriate administrative authority on the FNDR Employer’s Endorsement Form. The employer must indicate that leave will be granted for the fellowship period. The applicant can download the FNDR Employer’s Endorsement Form from the USIEF website; and
– the applicant must upload a copy of original published/presented paper or extracts from the Masters’/M.Phil. thesis on the online application form (not exceeding 20 pages).
Note: These fellowships are for pre-doctoral level research. Applicants with Ph.D. degrees or those at the final stage of Ph.D. thesis submission will not be considered.

IIT Roorkee is conducting Institute-funded SPARK fellowships for summer internships with a weekly stipend of INR 2500/week and project-funded summer internships in Summer 2021.

Program Objectives
To provide research exposure to interested undergraduate students of IITR.
To attract and nurture talented undergraduate students of other institutes. Some of these students may then choose to apply for postgraduate or doctoral studies at IITR.
Eligibility Criteria
Students who are currently enrolled and have completed at least two semesters of the undergraduate degree (B.Arch./B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc) in a relevant discipline from any institute in India.
Following minimum CGPA criterion will apply:
CGPA > 7.5 for IITs/IISc.
CGPA > 8.0 for NITs/ IISERs/ NISER/IIEST/UM-DAECBS.
CGPA > 8.5 for students of other institutes.
How to Apply
Please login to submit your application and view status of your application.
– Applications need to be submitted through an online portal made for the purpose where the applicants will upload the last semester marksheet of current degree, photograph, a 500-word research statement, and a brief 1-2 page resume. For students of other institutes, a No Objection Certificate (NOC)will also be sought on joining.
– Applicants need to mention names of five faculty members of their choice from the list of faculty members interested in having a summer intern.
– The term of the summer training should not be less than 6 weeks. Students of IITR will be allowed to begin their summer internship immediately after the completion of the term-end examination.
– Accommodation and mess facilities in the Bhawans, subject to payment of necessary charges at par with that paid by students living in hostels. The average cost of housing would be around Rs.5500/month (including mess facility).
– All interns will be issued a temporary institute ID to avail the library, sports, medical, computer centre, internet, and other institute and departmental research and recreation facilities. She/He will be required to abide by the conduct rules of the institute, failing which the internship will be terminated and the intern will be asked to leave.
– At the successful completion of the internship, a certificate from the institute with the name of the intern and mentor, signed by Dean, SRIC, will be issued to all interns.
SPARK International
SPARK is going to be international starting in Summer-2021 – exclusively for students pursuing technical degrees in universities other than Indian Origin. This program operates through ‘online’ mode and with fellowship of INR 2500/week during June-July. A separate set of projects are available separately to choose from in this program. Last date of application is 10th March 2021

2021 COMMONWEALTH MASTER’S SCHOLARSHIP IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
Online applications are invited from Indian nationals for ‘2021 COMMONWEALTH MASTER’ SCHOLARSHIP TENABLE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM’ for pursuing one year Master’s Degree Courses commencing from September/October 2021. The Scholarships are offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), UK.

Eligibility:
(i) The applicant must be a Citizen of India.
(ii) The applicant must be a permanent resident of India.
(iii)The applicant must be available to start his/her academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2021.
(iv) The applicant should have completed or is expected to complete his/her Bachelor Degree by October 2021.
(v) The applicant must not be able to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship. (Candidates are compulsorily required to sign a declaration that they do not have access to sufficient funds to study in the UK).
(vi) Candidates who have already been abroad for studies/training/ specialization either on scholarships or on their own, for a period exceeding six months are eligible to apply, if they have been in India for at least two consecutive years as on 21 February 2021 after returning from abroad.
(vii) Candidates must have an offer from admission from a UK University for the September/October 2021 intake at the time of applying to be considered for this scholarship. Candidates who have an offer of admission for the 2020 September/October academic session are also eligible to apply if they have decided to defer their offer by a year and the University has accepted their request to defer.
Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships India 2021 is offered under the following themes:

– Promoting global prosperity
– Strengthening global peace, security and governance
– Strengthening resilience and response to crises
– Access, inclusion and opportunity.
Nomination Criteria
(i) Candidates who have received an offer of admission from any UK University must upload a copy of the same on the Ministry’s portal at the time of online application, failing which their candidature will not be considered.
(ii) In case there are more applications than the number of nominations to be made, ranking of the UK University from where the candidate has secured an offer of admission as per the ‘QS Ranking 2021’ would be taken to draw up the merit list.
(iii) Nominations would be made in a development theme-wise proportional basis.
General Instructions:
1. Candidates who do not possess the eligibility criteria need not apply.
2. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
3. It is very important that applicants who are in employment to which they wish to return after completion of their studies in UK should have an assurance from their organization that on the final selection by the CSC, they will be granted sufficient leave to complete the study.

JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarships 2021-2022 Official Notification Announced. J. N. Tata Endowment has announced notification for JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarships 2021-2022. Candidates seeking scholarship are requested to check out the complete details below:
The J. N. Tata Endowment awards a one-time loan scholarship to Indian nationals at the beginning of the academic year for Postgraduate/Ph.D./Postdoctoral/Research fellowships studies abroad, in all fields, irrespective of caste, creed, gender or community.
The amount to be awarded to each scholar by way of the loan scholarship is determined on the basis of the norms laid down for the purpose and does not cover the full cost of studies. The amount awarded as the loan scholarship ranges between Rs.1,00,000/- and Rs.10,00,000/-. All selected scholars do not necessarily qualify for the maximum amount.
The selected scholars may also be recommended for a gift scholarship and partial travel assistance from our allied Trusts as may be decided at the sole discretion of the Trustees of the concerned Trusts. A gift scholarship can be for a maximum amount of Rs.7,50,000/- and the travel grant can be a maximum of Rs.50,000/-.
Eligibility Criteria
– Candidates should be Indian nationals who are graduates of a recognised Indian University and have secured at least 60% in their last academic examination. If you do not have an undergraduate degree from a recognised University in India, you are not eligible to apply.
– Candidates who are at the beginning of the second year of their overseas studies (Fall 2021 – Spring 2022) are also eligible to apply. This is applicable only if the minimum duration of course is 2 years. J N Tata scholars who have fully repaid their existing loan scholarship account are eligible to apply.
– Candidates in the final year of the degree course and those awaiting results are eligible to apply. Candidates may apply even if they do not have the admission/offer letters, at the time of making the application, from the Universities to which they have applied for the academic year 2021-2022. However they must update their applications status with the Endowment once they secure admission.
– Candidates not older than 45 years as on 30th June, 2021, with a good academic record and experience in their fields, specialisation or training may also apply.
– Candidates going abroad for seminars, conferences and undergraduate studies are not eligible for the J. N. Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship.
Selection for the Awards

Staying true to our founder Jamsetjee Nusserwanjee’s vision of rewarding the brightest and the best, we follow a rigorous selection process. Candidates may note the following points:
– Apart from consistent academic performance, we give importance to participation in both co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
– A good GRE/GMAT/TOEFL/IELTS score is extremely important for those applying overseas. If you have received a low GRE score, it may be advisable to improve upon it, to increase your chances of receiving the loan scholarship.
– The statement of purpose carries considerable weight in the selection process. We have provided some guidance on our web site on how you can construct a good statement of purpose. Please ensure that your statement of purpose is written by you and free from plagiarism.
– After the initial screening of applications, candidates are shortlisted to undergo an online test which will be based on the lines of Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA), on Sunday, 11th April 2021. Timing and other details will be informed accordingly. Candidates shortlisted based on the online test will be called for an interview. Such candidates should upload scanned copies of the required documents on the application form portal in the upload documents section, before the time of the interview.
The Interview
Candidates should note that to be shortlisted for an interview is no guarantee of receiving the loan scholarship.
– The technical interview, conducted in person at Mumbai or video conference through Skype & Microsoft Teams by the Director of the Endowment and a subject expert, from April onwards, carries the most weightage in the selection process. ‘Technical’ refers to evaluation of candidates’ understanding of their subjects – current and future.
– Candidates should come prepared with knowledge of their subjects and chosen areas of interest with any specialization, as shown in their application for admission. They will be examined in-depth and detail and greater weight will be given to depth of understanding of the chosen area of study and career path.
– Candidates in the beginning of the 2nd year would be assessed also on their first year/semester of overseas studies.
The final selection of scholars’ for the award of the loan scholarship is based on the following criteria:
(1) Performance at the interview; (2) Score at the online test (3) Score based on academic results, GRE/GMAT/IELTS/TOEFL scores, Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, research work, statement of purpose, and work experience.
All the Awards will be announced together latest by the first week of July by mail. The Trustees’ decision on the award of scholarships is final. Correspondence in this regard will not be entertained.
Formalities to be completed
– The candidate and the guarantor (preferably a parent or a relative having the capacity to repay the loan) will have to visit the Administrative Office of the Endowment, by prior appointment, to complete the necessary formalities, after obtaining the visa.
– They will be required to enter into a legal agreement with the Trustees and provide documentary evidence of the capacity of the guarantor to repay the loan.
– Candidates must repay the loan scholarship in five equal installments of 20% between the third and seventh year. Candidates must begin to repay earlier than year three if they have started earning.

2. AGE LIMIT
The candidate must be an Indian national. The candidate should be less than 28 years of age as on last date for receipt of application. Age relaxation is applicable up to 3 years in case of Other Backward Class applicants, 5 years in case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe applicants and 10 years in case of persons with disabilities applicants.

3. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
I. Candidates should have consistently good academic record and should have secured minimum of 60% aggregate in B.Sc. and 55% aggregate in M.Sc. from a recognized University.
II. a. Candidates those who have completed and awaiting the final results of M.Sc. Degree may also apply. However, such candidates should necessarily attach copies of the mark sheets of B.Sc. Degree and a copy of M.Sc. first year mark sheet(s) along with the application. Such candidates should have scored marks above 60% aggregate until the previous semester/year and minimum aggregate of 60% in B.Sc. level. In case such candidates eventually join the Fellowship, they shall have acquired aggregate marks of 55% in the qualifying degrees.
b. Candidates with five years integrated M.Sc. degree should have secured minimum of 55% aggregate in M.Sc./B.S.-M.S. (Dual degree).
c. In case appearing candidates are selected for JRF, they should secure 55% marks in aggregate in the M.Sc. examination and submit their M.Sc. Degree and mark sheet by July 01, 2021, failing which their candidature may be terminated.
III. Relevant certificates to this effect should be submitted at the time of joining the Centre. Wherever the results are declared as CGPA/GPA, it may be converted to percentage and entered. (The formula prescribed by the institute for conversion to be indicated at the time of verification).

4. SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applications will be scrutinized and candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on their academic performance and score obtained in the Qualifying Examination.
A first screening will be made based on the previous academic records of the applicants.
A further shortlisting of candidates will be made based on the performance in the nationwide screening test (Qualifying Examination).
5. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
i. Before applying, the candidate should ensure that he/ she fulfills all the eligibility conditions mentioned in the advertisement. Candidates should ensure that they fill in the correct information. Furnishing of incomplete, false or misleading information shall render the application liable to be rejected. The candidate would be admitted to various stages of the recruitment process based on the information furnished by the candidate in his/ her application. Only summary scrutiny of the application would be made before the final stage of the recruitment process and detailed scrutiny of the eligibility of the candidate would be done only at the final stage of the recruitment process. As such, the candidature of the applicant shall remain provisional till detailed scrutiny is undertaken and the candidate is found eligible in all respects. The final induction of the selected candidates as JRFs will be subject to production of all necessary documents in original (Proof of Date of Birth/ Caste Certificate/ physically challenged certificate if applicable, S.S.C/H.Sc./B.Sc./ M.Sc. degree and Mark sheets) on the dates intimated to the candidates by the Department.
viii. The number of fellowships indicated in this advertisement is approximate and may vary as per the requirement at the time of final selection. The Centre reserves the right not to fill up the fellowships if it is so desired. BARC reserves the right to screen and call only such candidates as are found prima-facie suitable for being considered by the Selection Committee. Thus, just fulfilling the prescribed conditions should not entitle one to be called for an interview. The fellowship shall not confer any claim or right for regular employment in the Centre or any Unit of Department of Atomic Energy. Opportunity for meritorious candidates exists for the position of visiting scientist under the KSKRA scheme.

x. The period of service rendered as a research fellow will not be counted in any post of DAE/Other Government Department.

6. APPLICATION FEE
i) Application fee of 500/- (Rupees five hundred only) is payable at the time of submission of online application. The mode of payment of the Application Fee is only Online.
ii) Application fee is exempted for Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Person with Disabilities.
iii) After submission of the online application, the applicant has to make online payment of the application fee using the Application Number generated. If the application fee is not paid, the application will be treated as incomplete and rejected.
v) For payment of fee, candidates should click on the ‘Make Payment’ option under the ‘My Account’ menu. The Application number generated while submission of application can be selected from the Drop-down box and on clicking the submit button candidates can go to the next page for making the online payment.

vi) Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances and cannot be held in reserve for any other recruitment.

7. HOW TO APPLY ONLINE
i. Facility for submission of online application will be available from 18/12/2020 to 15/01/2021. ii. Applications will be accepted ONLINE only. Candidate should not apply multiple applications.
iii. Candidate should read the instructions in the advertisement and online application form carefully before making any entry or selecting any option. While filling up the online application from candidates should ensure that all the required details are entered.
iv. Before filling the application form, candidates should keep ready the necessary documents/ certificates required. The candidate is required to fill up personal details and details of discipline applied for etc. and upload recently taken front-facing passport size photograph in JPEG format with size not exceeding 20 KB. Photographs not in conformity with the specification shall render the application liable to be rejected.
v. While filling the application online, it is mandatory for the candidates to indicate all their Educational and Professional Qualifications under the column ‘Educational & Professional Qualifications’, failing which their application will not be processed.
In case candidates are “pursuing MSc” Or “pursuing MSc(Intg)”, correct option should be selected from the ‘Name of Examination’ Drop-down box. Those who have completed M.Sc. may select “MSc.” OR “MSc.(Intg)” from the ‘Name of Examination’ Drop-down box.

vii. The candidate must ensure that their photo and signature is clearly visible in preview at the time of filling application in online mode. If photo/ signature displayed is small or not visible in preview on website, that means photo/ signature is not as per the required format and in that case the application will be rejected. Therefore, candidates must ensure that photo and signature are clearly visible.
viii. Candidate should upload their SSC/H.Sc./B.Sc./M.Sc. Mark sheets and Degree Certificate along with the valid Qualifying Examination Score Card and Caste certificate(if applicable), while applying online. The online applications without the attachment of these documents shall be disqualified.
ix. Before clicking the submit button, the candidate is advised to check that all the details filled in are correct. Candidate may also ensure that name, date of birth, etc., are entered correctly in the application form as per Secondary School Certificate (SSC). Any incorrect information may disqualify candidature. After final submission of application no request for change/ correction in any of the information in the application form shall be entertained under any circumstances.
x. 8. TRAVELLING ALLOWANCE
Candidates called for the interview will be reimbursed to and fro Third AC railway fare by the shortest route (subject to production of original tickets) as per rules.
9. MEDICAL
The selected candidates are eligible to join the Contributory Health Services Scheme of this Centre as applicable.
10. ACCOMMODATION
Limited hostel accommodation is available. The selected candidates will be provided with subsidized bachelor Hostel Accommodation for an initial period of one year only. The candidates will be assisted to get accommodation on rental basis. The candidate who could not be provided with accommodation is entitled for HRA @ 24% of the Fellowship.
11. FELLOWSHIP AND TENURE
The selected candidates will be initially taken as Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and will be paid a stipend of 31,000/- per month. The fellowship will be provided initially for a period of two years. Continuation of the fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance and review at the end of each year. On satisfactory performance, the tenure of Fellowship will be further extended and upgraded to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) from the third year onwards with a stipend of 35000/- per month (consolidated). The total period of the fellowship shall in no case exceed five years. They are entitled for a contingency grant including a book allowance of 40,000/- per year.
In addition, the fellows are entitled to a House Rent Allowance of 7440/- p.m.(JRF) and 8400/- p.m. (SRF), if not in occupation of Government accommodation.
12. CANCELLATION OF THE CANDIDATURE
Candidate is cautioned not to furnish any incomplete, false or misleading information or submit any document which is defective, forged or fabricated or otherwise not admissible or claim fraudulently SC/ST/OBC/Person with Disability status etc., or resort to any sort of malpractice during the selection process. Notwithstanding verification of original documents during various stages of the selection process, if any such case is detected at any stage of the selection process or later on, this Centre reserves the right to withdraw/cancel candidature or selection apart from taking other appropriate legal action.
Candidates will not be allowed to appear for the interview if they fail to bring the print out of the Application and a valid photo identity card (such a Voter ID, Driving License, AADHAR Card, Passport, College ID) and all the documents in original at the time of interview.

SRISTI-GYTI 2021 & SITARE-GYTI 2021 Fellowships – Apply Online. Are you someone having innovative mind and want to start a biotech startup? Check out the below mentioned fellowships which can give you funding support of up to INR 15 lakhs.
Students Innovations for Translation & Advancement of Research Explorations (SITARE) Scheme is aimed at supporting innovative student projects in the area of biotechnology. The scheme’s mandate is to promote and encourage young students for embracing translational research to develop innovative products and technologies addressing unmet needs. SITARE-GYTI Award Grant is not a usual research fellowship. The scheme also provides an opportunity for orientation, training and mentoring through residential workshops etc.
The scheme has two components:
SITARE-GYTI
SITARE-Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award Grant: 15 innovative student projects will receive funding support of up to INR 15 lakhs each. SITARE-GYTI encourages postgraduate and doctoral students to undertake projects with commercial potential leading to the creation of biotech startups. The fund recipients are recognized as BIRAC’s SITARE-GYTI beneficiaries.
Eligibility:
Indian Students pursuing Ph.D/Masters* in any discipline# is eligible to apply for this award grant. The student should have a valid ID issued by the Institution/University. A No objection Certificate (NOC), as per the prescribed format needs to be submitted along with the application.
*Exceptions for exceptional talent: Meritorious candidature outside the above eligibility criteria maybe considered for SITARE with the approval of BIRAC’s competent authority.
#SITARE-GYTI award grant proposals can be submitted in any domain including Healthcare, Life sciences, Diagnostics, Medical Devices, Drugs, Vaccines, Drug Formulations and delivery systems, Industrial Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Agriculture, Secondary agriculture, Waste Management, Sanitation, Clean Energy and Artificial Intelligence/IoT with application in any of these areas.
BIRAC encourages interdisciplinary proposals from any stream that can help conversion of innovative ideas into biotech products and technologies in any of the above fields

SITARE-Appreciation Grant:
Residential workshops called as Biotech Innovation Ignition School (BIIS) for undergraduate students are organized to provide hands-on technical training and mentorship for problem identification in 3-4 weeks duration. Out of 30-40 students per workshop, 10 students are selected and provided grant support of up to INR 1 lakh each to encourage their inquisitiveness and sustained efforts. The recipients are recognized as BIRAC’s SITARE-Appreciation beneficiaries. In a year, 3 such workshops are conducted. Applications for SITARE-GYTI Award Grants and BIIS workshop participation are invited at the national level.
Eligibility:
Students pursuing bachelor programme in any discipline, preferably from Tier II/Tier III cities and aspirational districts within India. The student should have a valid ID issued by the Institution/University.
A student can avail only one opportunity for BIIS workshop training across all SITARE Partners, except for the SITARE-Appreciation Award Grantees who will be eligible to avail access to subsequent workshops by other Partners on the recommendation by SITARE Partner/BIRAC.
The applications for all other engineering/technology disciplines must be submitted at Techpedia.in platform (www.techpedia.in). The last date for submission of entries at Techpedia is November 30, 2020.

SRISTI-GYTI (Gandhian Young Technological Innovation) Awards, 2021 for technology students from all disciplines of Engineering/technology except for life sciences
The young technology students are invited to submit their entries from non-life science disciplines for above awards at GYTI techpedia.in/award site before Nov 30, 2020. The applications for life sciences will be submitted at BIRAC.nic.in
The awards will be given to young student innovators in the following category:
MLM (More from less for many), Frugal Innovation award- technologies that economise on the use of materials/energy, are extremely sustainable
SRISTI – socially relevant technological innovation award-products/prototypes that address unmet social needs or improve the functioning of existing solutions, increase affordability and/or improve circularity i.e. ecological compatibility.
Technological-edge award-ideas that push the frontiers in any technological domain.
Student projects which address an important social, environmental or technological problem faced by masses or disadvantaged people/sectors/spaces or micro and small enterprises, or have the potential to impact a pressing national need are invited. The applications may be made by the past or present students of technical institutions/universities. The faculty member, who supervised the project, can also apply on behalf of the students who have already passed out and left the Institute/ University, but awards would be given only to students willing to take their ideas forward. No financial grant accompanies these awards, only citations are given to recognize the talent of young innovators.

ABOUT THE SCHEME:
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, has launched a new grant opportunity, the M K BHAN – YOUNG RESEARCHER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME (MKB-YRFP), with an aim to encourage young bright researchers to continue their research in the country after Ph.D.
The scheme is to offer an independent research grant to young Post-Doctoral Fellows, so as to enable them to emerge as future leaders and take up cutting edge research focused on issues of national relevance. AIM OF THE FELLOWSHIP

– The applicant should have an excellent track record as evident by peer-reviewed publications, technologies developed, patent (if any). Those who have submitted their Ph.D. are also eligible to apply; however, fellowship can be implemented only after the award of the degree. Applicant should not take-up fellowship at the Institute where he/she has done his/her Ph.D.
– Each applicant must identify a host institute and a mentor.
– The upper age limit will be 35 years as on the closing date of the submission of the application.
– Applicants cannot have more than one fellowship at a given point of time.
– The application has to be routed through a host institute (DBT Autonomous Institute) chosen by the applicant to take up the fellowship and has to be signed by both, the mentor and head of the institution.
– In case a fellow is offered a permanent job, he/she can avail only either the fellowship or the salary.
– The fellowship is co-terminus with the project duration.
NATURE OF SUPPORT
– The scheme provides a consolidated monthly remuneration of Rs. 75,000/- p.m.
– MKB-YRFP fellows in addition will receive a research/contingency grant of Rs. 20.00 lakh per year for hiring manpower, purchase of consumables, minor equipment, domestic travel and other contingent expenditure to be incurred for the implementation of research proposal selected for the fellowship.
– Can engage one manpower (JRF/SRF/Project Assistant/Project Associate) under him/her. Capital equipment will be procured in the name of the institute where the fellow proposes towork and value of the whole set of equipment should not exceed Rs.10.00 lakh.
– MKB-YRFP fellows will be eligible for a regular research grant through extramural and other schemes of various S&T agencies of the Govt. of India, provided that Co-PI is a regular faculty. However, they can take a research grant from anywhere but salary from only one source.
WHERE WILL THE MKB-YRFP FELLOWS WORK?
MKB-YRFP Fellows can take up the Young Investigator grant at any of the DBT-Autonomous institutions. However, the application should be duly forwarded by the competent authority of the host Institute. Fellows can change their host institute only once during the tenure of the fellowship with the prior No Objection Certificate from the host institute who has forwarded the application (Director/Registrar). The new institute proposed for change also has to be a DBT Autonomous Institute.
Candidate should submit his/her nomination through a single host institute only. However, institutions can nominate more than one candidate.
DURATION AND NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIP
The duration of the fellowship will be for a period of three years and in exceptional cases the duration could be extended by another two years on a fresh appraisal.
HOW TO APPLY?
Eligible applicants should submit an application for the Young Researcher Fellowship Programme as per prescribed proforma to DBT duly forwarded by the Host Institute where they intend to take up the fellowship.
MODE OF SELECTION
A national-level Selection Committee constituted by the Department of Biotechnology for the purpose will select the final candidates for MKB-YRFP Young Researcher Fellowship Programme.

OTHER CONDITIONS
1) A letter from the mentor, giving consent to provide laboratory space where the applicant desires to work, should be enclosed with the application. The laboratory should be able to support major needs of the project.
2) Fellows are not entitled to any kind of salary during the fellowship. If during the fellowship, the fellow finds a regular employment in DBT AIs or receives any other fellowship, he/she should immediately inform to the DBT. In that case fellow has an option for taking either salary or fellowship at a given point of time. However, he/she can continue to avail of research grant for the remaining duration of the fellowship. If fellow accepts a permanent position in other than DBT AIs, he/she needs to opt-out of the MKB-YRFP fellowship.
3) The financial transactions of the award programme will be to be handled by the host institute, which will be responsible for submitting the Utilization Certificate (UC) and Statement of Expenditure (SE) every financial year.
4) Each Institute will be sanctioned a consolidated budget for the number of fellows selected for each Institute. The budget will include the Fellowship amount and Contingency/Research Grant.
5) The awardees will be the corresponding author for any publication emanating as a result of the research carried out on account of the award. The mentor and others could be co-authors. The support of DBT should be suitably acknowledged in the publications (papers, reports etc.) arising out of the research work done under this award programme.
6) The Fellow will submit an annual progress report through Host Institute.
7) Institute will constitute an Expert Review Committee to review the scientific work done by the Fellow and submit minutes of the Review Committee to the DBT along with UC/SE.

The Chulabhorn Graduate Institute (CGI), Thailand is offering scholarships to Indian students under the Chulabhorn Graduate Institute Post-graduate Scholarship Program for Non-ASEAN Applicants for the Academic Year 2021. The Scholarships are being offered to pursue a Master’s Degree study at the CGI.
2) The Eligibility Criteria for applying to this Scholarship are as under:

DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY MINISTRY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY GOVERNMENT OF INDIA
Applications are solicited from Indian Nationals working in overseas research institutions for the “Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship”, a re-entry scheme of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. The fellowship is now being managed by Regional Center for Biotechnology under its HRD Project and Management Unit (HRD-PMU).
Aim of the Fellowship
The scheme has been conceptualized with the aim of attracting highly skilled researchers (Indian Nationals) working overseas in various cutting edge disciplines of Life Sciences/Biotechnology/Bio-engineering/Health Care, Agriculture/ Veterinary Sciences and all other allied areas by providing them an attractive avenue to pursue their R&D interests in Indian institutions.
Who is eligible to apply?
The applicant should possess a Ph.D./M.D. or equivalent degree with an outstanding track record as reflected in publications and other recognitions and with at least three years of postdoctoral research experience of which the last two years should be from an overseas laboratory. Those who have already returned to India within one year of the closing date of this advertisement are also eligible.
Researchers upto 45 years of age as determined on the closing date of application are eligible to apply.
Incentives of being a Ramalingaswami Fellow
– This is a senior fellowship program and awardees are to be considered equivalent to Assistant Professor/Scientist-D level position. Fellows selected are entitled to take up teaching/research assignments and supervising Doctoral/MS students.
– The scheme provides a consolidated monthly remuneration of Rs. 1,00,000/- p.m. In addition, a House Rent Allowance of Rs. 18,500/- p.m. (consolidated) is given to fellows. In case the host institute provides accommodation to the fellow, no House Rent Allowance is admissible. The fellowship is taxable as per Govt. of India rules.
– Fellows will receive a research/contingency grant of Rs.10.00 lakhs for the 1st & 2nd year; Rs.7.50 lakhs for the 3rd & 4th year; Rs. 5.00 lakhs for 5th year for the purchase of consumables, minor equipment, international and domestic travel, engaging manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred for the implementation of research proposal which is a part of the fellowship and Institutional overhead @Rs. 50,000/ year.
– DBT encourages host institutions to provide medical benefits, transport allowance, leave travel allowance and other benefits as per their prevailing norms as applicable to their employees of the rank equivalent to Assistant Professor/Scientist D out of their own resources/ funds.
– Fellows retain an option for drawing either the fellowship or salary if they are appointed at a suitable permanent scientific position. Fellows opting for salary can continue to avail the research /contingency grant with prior approval of DBT.
– Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellows could take up a fellowship at any of the scientific institutes/ universities/ relevant Industries in the country. However, the application should be duly forwarded by the competent authority of the host Institute. Fellows can change their host institute only once during the tenure of the fellowship with the prior No Objection Certificate from the host institute who has forwarded the application [Director/Registrar/Vice-Chancellor/Dean/ CEO/ HR Head (in case of industry) or as the case may be] and also with prior approval from DBT. The subsequent change will be allowed if the fellow gets a permanent job in another Institute or on the case to case basis if needed.
– Candidate can submit his/her nomination through a single host institute only. However, institutions can nominate more than one candidate.
– Awardees are eligible to apply for research grants to any of the funding agencies towards the accomplishment of the research proposal. However, the Co-PI has to be a permanent employee of the host institution.
Tenure of fellowship
The fellow can draw fellowship for a term of five years. Fellowship is further extendable for another two years on a fresh appraisal. Only fellowship & HRA will be admissible during extension period. No research/contingency grant will be provided during the extension period. Those who are able to secure permanent positions will not be considered for 2nd term.

Call for Applications: Early Career Fellowships in Basic Biomedical Research
DBT/ Wellcome Trust India Alliance invites applications for its Early Career Fellowships in Basic Biomedical Research. This is a mentored Fellowship programme that provides a unique opportunity for promising postdoctoral researchers to carry out high-quality biomedical research in India towards building an independent research career.
Eligibility:
1) Applicant must be in the final year of Ph.D. or have no more than four years of post-PhD research experience from the date of Ph.D. viva to the invited full application submission deadline (tentatively in October 2020 for the current round of competition); due consideration will be given to justified non-research career breaks
2) An applicant may either have completed or be pursuing a PhD in any discipline of science; however, the proposed research work must be within the funding remit of India Alliance
3) There are no restrictions based on age or nationality
4) Applicant need not be resident in India while applying but should be aspiring to launch an independent research career in India
5) Applicant must choose a not-for-profit host institution in India that will administer the Fellowship for the full duration (5 years) of the award in line with India Alliance award conditions and policies

Background
Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) will award Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowships to outstanding engineers to recognize, encourage and support translational research by individuals to achieve excellence in engineering, innovation and technology development.
Scope
All areas of engineering, innovation and technology are covered by this fellowship.
Eligibility
The scheme is applicable to Indian nationals working in India in various capacities of the engineering profession in public-funded institutions.
The applicant should possess adequate professional qualification and hold at least a bachelor’s degree
This applicant should have a minimum of five (5) years of service left in the parent organization as on the date of the award.
The applicant should not be holding any other fellowship and in the event of selection, he/she will have to opt for only one of the fellowships.
Duration
The duration of the fellowship will be initially for three years, extendable by upto two more years depending on the performance.
The fellowship can be held for a maximum of 5 years.
Nature of Support
The fellowship amount is Rs. 25,000 per month in addition to regular income.
A Research Grant of Rs.15.00 lakh per annum
An Overhead of Rs.1.00 lakh per annum to the host institute.
The fellowship is taxable as per the IT rule of the Government of India.
Expected Outcome
Commercialized or deployable technology; pilot-scale or field trial worthy technology; patent (filed/ sold/ commercialized); working model or prototype for demonstration and trial.
Nomination
The nominations can be sent by the Heads of the Institutions/ organizations, Presidents/ fellows of National science/ engineering academies, SS Bhatnagar Awardees and JC Bose awardees.
The nominations will be accepted throughout the year.
Fellowship
A Maximum of 10 Fellowships will be awarded per year.
Selection
Selection of Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellows will be made by a Search -Cum-Selection Expert Committee specially constituted for the purpose, as per the broad guidelines of the fellowship

Newton International Fellowships
These fellowships are intended for non-UK early-stage scientists in their scientific careers and who wish to conduct research in the UK. The British Academy, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society collectively administer this scheme.
Research must fall within the scope of natural sciences of the Royal Society, which comprises, but is not restricted to, biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics. For a complete list kindly see the overview of the Royal Society supported subject groups and areas.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply you must:
have a Ph.D., or will have a Ph.D. by the time the funding starts
have no more than 7 years of active full-time postdoctoral experience at the time of application (discounting career breaks but including teaching experience and/or time spent in industry)
be working outside the UK
not hold UK citizenship
be competent in oral and written English
have a clearly defined and mutually-beneficial research proposal agreed with a UK host scientist

What is the scheme’s value and tenure?
The Newton International Fellowships provide funding for two years, covering:
subsistence, at a fixed rate of £24,000 per annum

Successful applicants may also be eligible to receive annual funding following completion of their fellowship to support networking activities with UK-based researchers.

Applications for clinical and patient-oriented research should be made to the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Xiamen University New International Students Scholarships for 2020
Xiamen University launched its own scholarships in 2006 for international students enrolled in degree programs. Winners of the scholarships will have their tuition fees compensated. In addition, exceptional postgraduates will receive monthly living entitlements in accordance with the norms of Chinese Government Scholarships.
Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
Applicants should hold a master’s degree or above.
Doctoral programs: hold a master’s degree or above and be under the age of 45.

Applicants are expected to submit a complete set of application materials and will be held responsible for the authenticity of their documents. Incomplete or forged application materials will be rejected.
Applicants are expected to keep their phones on, check their email and online application account regularly as XMU’s Admissions Office will contact them when necessary.
Selection and Notification
A comprehensive review will be conducted on the applicant’s academic record, language proficiency, overall merits, research achievements and their prospective supervisor’s comments. The shortlisted candidates will be submitted to the university authorities for final approval.
The final results will be published at https://admissions.xmu.edu.cn in mid-July. Scholarships awardees will be notified via email. Admission Notices and Visa Application Forms for Study (JW202) will be sent out afterwards.

The registration process for the 2020-21 International Scholarship Program is now available. You can obtain application forms from the Aga Khan Foundation or the Aga Khan Education Board / Service office in the applicant’s current country of residence.
Note: The Foundation will not accept applications for the 2020-21 application cycle from students planning to attend universities in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, The Netherlands, Italy, Norway and Ireland.

Each year, the Aga Khan Foundation offers a small number of scholarships for postgraduate studies to outstanding candidates from select developing countries who have no other ways of funding their studies to grow and train successful scholars and leaders for jobs, mainly within the AKDN. Scholarships are provided on a 50 percent grant: 50 percent loan basis in June or July through a competitive application process once a year.
The Foundation prioritizes applications for Master’s level courses but is willing to consider applications for Ph.D. programs only in the case of exceptional students who are strongly recommended by their professors for Ph.D. research and who require a Ph.D. to fulfill their career goals (academic or research-oriented).
Short term program applications are not considered; neither are applications from candidates who have already begun their study course.
Eligibility
Geographic Scope
The Foundation welcomes applications from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique nationals. Applications are welcomed in France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada from those originally from one of the above-mentioned developing countries who may be interested in development-related studies and who have no other means of funding their education.
Residency Requirement
The Foundation only supports applications from the above-mentioned eligible nationals residing in one of the nations where applications are processed and interviewed by local Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), or Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB).
Age Limit
Preference is given to students under 30 years of age.
Selection Criteria
The main criteria for choosing award winners are: (l) consistently brilliant educational records; (2) real financial need; (3) admission to a world-renowned university or study program; and (4) relevance of the study area to the focus areas of AKDN. Applicants are also assessed on showing insightful and coherent educational and professional plans, their extracurricular ambitions and accomplishments, the capacity to reach their goals and the chances of succeeding in a foreign academic environment.
Financial Assistance
The Foundation only pays tuition fees and housing expenditures for students. Travel costs are not included in AKF scholarships. Funding for Ph.D. programs is available only for the first two years of study, after which the graduates are expected to find alternative sources of help. Financial support is given in conjunction with students’ needs, but the ISP must be considered a last-resort lender. Applicants are encouraged to make every attempt to receive support from other entities as well, in order to minimize the amount received from the Foundation.
Loan Conditions
Half of the amount of the scholarship is considered a loan to be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5 percent. The loan agreement has to be co-signed by a guarantor. The payback period is five years, beginning six months after the Aga Khan Foundation funded period of study.

AKF’s International Scholarship Program application processes are decentralized. Students may collect application forms from AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services / Boards in their current country of residence as of 1 January each year.
Application Deadline
The deadline for submitting completed applications is 31 March, though internal deadlines may be earlier for processing and reviewing applications in some countries. For internal deadlines and requirements, applicants are recommended to approach the local offices, as these can differ from country to country. Late or incomplete requests are not accepted.
Interview and Selection Notification
Candidates must be ready to be questioned about their financial position, academic achievements, extracurricular accomplishments and career goals by local Scholarship Representatives.
The yearly Scholarship Selection Meeting is held in late June or early July and shortly thereafter, the Aga Khan Foundation will inform all students of the outcome of their submission.
