In more than one continuity, Harley and Pamela have a trusting and open relationship, so writers need to let Crane into this open relationship. There's so much potential.

I don’t mind a little Scarequinn now and then! Jon definitely deserves someone like Harley in his life.

For starters, their relationship is more of a test run. It’s nothing too serious and it’s very, very open. It’s more of a platonic partnership with benefits? It’s very complicated. Dating-but-not-dating. Harley initiated the relationship because she felt ol’ Jonny needed some experience in a relationship and wanted to see if things would work out, and Jonathan agreed because he cares so much about Harley and wanted to treat her right. Either way, in the relationship or not, they’re very very close friends.

Things were very awkward at first. Before they got together, Jonathan was still calling her Dr. Quinzel and Harley was still calling him Prof. Crane. Adapting to referring to each other without their professional titles was easy though, for Harley at least. Jonathan still needed some reminding. Eventually though they were easily calling one another “Jonny” and “Harley” (or rather Miss Harley, as Jonathan sweetly calls her to make her giggle). It was soon after that the relationship started becoming a bit more intimate.

Speaking of intimacy, it’s 90% of what they do. Just hug, snuggle. Kiss. Sometimes more. Harley would often give Jonathan “surprise hugs,” which he wasn’t the biggest fan of. Harley is a bit stubborn though, so because she wouldn’t stop when asked, Jonathan started doing it to her. And as expected, she loved it. Not the hug itself, but just seeing Jonathan be playful with her. Playful in general, really. They began teasing one another like middle schoolers with a crush. They would chase each other, Jonathan would tug Harley’s ponytail, Harley would poke Jonathan’s love handles, and so forth. Even when they would hug, they started tickling one another on their necks and their backs, and chuckling into the embrace. Kissing became playful too, as they would barely kiss on the lips, it was always butterfly kisses, bunny kisses, forehead kisses (mostly from Jonathan because he’s taller), and so forth.

Harley is always exited and upbeat, so much that it rubs off on Jonathan. Early on when they would hold hands and walk together, Harley was always practically dragging Jon around. Though soon after, Jon would always keep up to speed. They also absolutely swing their hand-holding arms when they walk together, too. On the topic of walking, Jonathan would help her walk the Hyenas, which he hated at first because Bud and Lou frankly didn’t like him at the beginning of it all, but when they saw how happy Harley was around him they warmed up overtime. Harley would also skip happily next to Jon, always tagging along when he went to Central Park in the early early morning to feed the crows. He’d hold her hand and guide her exactly how to cup her hand and position her arm for the crows to perch. Crowfeeding also became one of the rare times Harley was completely still when with Jonathan, as she’s always just so, so exited and ecstatic when with him for any reason.

They’re always there for one another emotionally. They’re both excellent psychologists who excelled in their fields, and it definitely shows when they have emotional conversations. Whenever Harley needs to vent, Jonathan is there to help her understand her fears so she knows what needs addressing and where she can grow. When Jonathan needs to get something off of his chest, Harley is there to help reassure him and remind him that he’s a lot stronger than he feels he is. They are constant cheerleaders and emotional support for one another. They’re as true as friends can be when it comes to that.
