Ya know what NOBODY talks about that I’m obsessed with? Star crossed lovers BigB and Grian from Double Life. I was ready for the angst and the what if and the pining but everyone just road that Scar train and man… I think it would be cool if we did stuff other than ScarxGrian sometimes.

See I'm conflicted because I agree but also that's the majority of publicity BigB has gotten other than the "what hole?" bit in SL via Grian's POV. Can we as a fandom just talk about BigB more in general outside of Grian yknow. Because he in general is really interesting. I saw a poll going around just recently about which BigB people liked the most and an overwhelming amount voted SL with DL in second place and I'm like wow. At least 90% of these people have not watched a BigB POV in their lives I just know it

Pink Spyglass headcanons

These are my Pink Spyglass headcanons, enjoy my headcanons for the gay boys of Vacuo and tells your headcanons for Scarlet x Nolan.

Scarlet is a jacket thief and a hoodie thief, he loves to steal Nolan's jackets and hoodies, especially Nolan's dark-red wolf hoodie, which was a gift from when Nolan was dating his now deceased boyfriend Roy Stallion.

There were many times that Scarlet and Nolan were in each others beds, either to help out with nightmares or just for snuggles, and the other members of team SSSNN find it cute.

Scarlet is trans gay and Nolan is just gay.

Nolan is protective of Scarlet, he doesn't want to lose him like his teammates Brawnz Ni, Roy, and May Zedong, and Nolan has thanatophobia (The fear of death).

Nolan isn't afraid to let some curse words out when someone is being homophobic or transphobic to his boyfriend.

Scarlet and Nolan love playing co-op games like Minecraft, Animal Crossing, and other wholesome so-op video games.

In the future Scarlet and Nolan have 3 kids, two nine year old's who are also twins Scarlan (girl) and Nolet (boy), and a two year Magenta.

13: Do you prefer writing multi-chapter fics or single-part fics? Do you prefer reading multi-chapter fics or single-part fics?

Hiiii! Sorry, it took a while. I had to do some things. But thanks for sending in an ask based on this ask game ^^

If it’s about convenience, single-part fics are my preference. Because with it, I can explore a lot of things but also finish a lot of things. Or if it’s from the same universe and if those are loosely-connected stories, I feel like I have mo control. However, there is a different satisfaction in writing multi-chaptered ones. I don’t have to establish a new world/scenario whenever I write a new chapter and I can leave cliffhangers too at times. I like both, but it can be overwhelming to do a lot of multi-chaptered ones so I’m trying to contain myself with just two.

As for reading, it depends largely on my time and mood. I’m quite busy irl so my to-go are definitely single-part fics. But sometimes a universe/story is so good that you want to read more about the characters and all, that a multi-chapter is a better read. So I make exceptions to that. I’m honestly more of a writer/artist in the fandom though so I don’t have a lot of time to read, sadly.

Hmm, today I’ll be sharing something different than usual. I’ve been mostly sharing fanfic excerpts, but, seeing as I’ve been silly busy and don’t really want to share something that is still at the outline stage,  that can get repetitive, today you’re actually getting an excerpt from a game writing sample. As context, writing samples are used when applying for work in the game industry.

This particular one is something I wrote for an event I help run, but haven’t gotten around to edit based on the feedback yet. It was quite an interesting thing to make, though!

This is a sample from a breakup scene of a romance arc of an Early Modern fantasy RPG title. It takes place mid-game after a major main plot event, and is accessible only to players involved in the NPC romance.

This is where we are: 

Taking down a vampire nest was no easy feat, but, after hours of convoluted covert machinations and a few blunt well-aimed wooden stakes, SEGONYE (player character) managed to secure the sacred chrysalis ambers, a vital step toward creating the elixir of immortality, the only cure to a poison slowly killing them. Their Troupe of Mercenaries, hosted at Duchess Carousse’s palace, has earned a night of rest before leaving Carsol, a floating city state famous for its luminous waters, meandering canals, and shady mercantile meddling.

In this moment of respite, MARTYN ORESTES, your trusted if somewhat anxious alchemist and optional love interest, invites you for an evening stroll to the Scarlan Harbor… 

Interior -- Antechamber at the Duchess’s Palace. 

Music and relieved chatter drifts to the rafters of the warm antechamber, and Elsie the bard plays the lirone with such involvement that even stiff-lipped Resdon dances in front of the fireplace. SEGONYE leans back on a low divan, a crystal goblet in their hand, ready to take a sip when MARTYN appears by their side.

MARTYN:

Despite my initial suspicions, the chrysalis ambers are genuine. They should make for a reliable reagent for the elixir you seek. You can find my notes and the ambers in your travel chest.

SEGONYE:

Thank you Martyn. That’s good news, yes? And still you look like a pig pissed in your porridge. What’s wrong?

MARTYN:

So very delicate, as always. 

Can I speak with you? Someplace  less conspicuous.

A dialogue option appears:

A: Can it wait?

B: Of course. (friendly)

C: Sounds… Intriguing. (flirty)

BRANCH A: Can it wait?

SEGONYE:

Can it wait? I have a bottle of down-right divine Santerran, and a potion this potent shouldn’t go to waste…

And look at that, there’s a name on this goblet! Let’s see what it says.  M… A… R… [T Y N]

MARTYN:

Take it along, if you must.

SEGONYE:

Thank the sixteen seas! Right behind you!

Exit branching.

BRANCH B: Of course.

SEGONYE:

Of course, Martyn. I’m here for you. Do I need anything where we’re going?

MARTYN:

I wonder if the Duchess would notice a bottle of wine gone missing?

SEGONYE:

A man who knows his potions. Lead the way.

Exit branching.

BRANCH C: Sounds… Intriguing.

SEGONYE:

I have been waiting all night for you to appear and whisk me away into the shadows.

MARTYN:

I do find it a little crowded in the light.

SEGONYE:

I’ll bring the wine, you lead the way.

Exit branching.

Exterior -- Rooftop terrace at the Duchess’s Palace. Night, the moons are high. Light spills from inside.

Segonye and Martyn emerge on the roof terrace overlooking the Duchess’s secluded canal. Quick as only an Alchemist trained in the arts of the assassin, Martyn leaps over the wrought iron railing. Segonye shakes their head with an enigmatic smile, then follows suit.

Exterior -- Scarlan Harbor. Night. 

A forest of spindly masts reach up into the night sky. Bioluminescent algae and medusas light the water an unnatural iridescent purple, casting the sailboats and ships of the Scarlan Harbor in a ghastly shimmer. Martyn and Segonye sit on the dock. 

Martyn passes the bottle back to Segonye, who shakes it, finds it empty, and sets it aside.

SEGONYE:

Good while it lasted. Oh, the Duchess. Did you see those looks she gave me? I wasn’t sure if she wanted my head or my tail… 

MARTYN:

Captain.

SEGONYE:

Jealous? I will speak nothing more of it. You have nothing to worry about, and also my undivided attention. What did you wish to speak of? And why here?

MARTYN:

A fortnight ago, I dreamt I left my guild and brethren, set out on a ship of my own. A small dhow. Just me, and the sea. I sailed south of Tornemark, west of Vancara. Among the islands beyond our charts I was free of words that bind. Sleeping soundly under unknown stars.

SEGONYE:

Are you saying your bunk at the Miranda is not to your liking? Granted, you’re not her captain… But I have it on some authority you’re in [her/his/their] good graces. Perhaps something can be arranged.

MARTYN:

(chuckles, then sighs)

Begs the question how good [her/his/their] graces are, if one such as I can fall into them.

SEGONYE:

Have you then fallen? For me?

Martyn leans in, and takes Segonye’s hand. He places an opal on a plain leather cord in it -- the same opal Segonye offered as payment for his services.

MARTYN:

No matter what comes next, I want you to have this.

Dialogue options appear:

A: Why are you giving this back to me?

B: You’ve made alterations. [Prerequisites: High Magic and High Faith]

C: It’s beautiful. (accept)

D: I can’t take it back. (decline)

I’m currently working on putting this into Twine interactive fiction format:

The branching here is going to be kept in this branch and merge format; I usually always write interactive works this way. You can see that between the “Enter dialogue” and the options there, that all end in the same “Exit branching” node. It would be an example of a tone choice; it doesn’t affect the outcome, but it does allow you to roleplay slightly different reactions in the moment.

I found out about a really fantastically legible format called Chapbook, and I think I’m in love. That node there, titled “Dialogue 2″, looks like this to the reader / player:

This second point of branching (in the node Dialogue 2) is a little bigger in impact than the first (which was a tone choice). Options A and B both request more information, but C and D are actually a binary choice (accept or reject the offered gift). Depending on the player’s choice, they end up with the  opal - or then Martyn throws it into the water. At the very end of the sequence, the player gets a choice, but what the choice is depends on what happened;

If the player rejected the opal, then Martyn threw the opal into the water, and the player gets the choice to dive in to retrieve it

If the player accepted the opal, they get the choice to throw it into the water

Anyways -- You can probably tell this scene’s narrative design is heavily inspired by Dragon Age, and the setting has some nudges from The Lies of Locke Lamora. It was a lot of fun to write and I hope to get it done at some point 💜

What's one thing about Declan that draws you to her/him? Why do you think you're attracted to that?

Can I mention two? I know that’s like cheating but there are I think two things that I really like about him. Number one his laugh, he has this loud contagious laugh, he lets it be free whenever he does laugh around me and it’s quite precious. Number two, his honesty. He doesn’t try to manipulate me; he doesn’t try to protect me by softening up his words or avoiding a subject; he sees me and somehow, he knows I can handle honesty however raw and harsh it might be. At least that’s how it feels so far.
