Does your brain not like to remember lyrics automatically all on its own? We didn’t have many songs on the Isle, but the few that I did get to hear, I bet I’d remember every single word to every single one if they came on now, even if I haven’t heard them since I was five. Like, King Beast’s PSA about washing your hands? It was so, so memorable because it had music! Even if it made me cry because I could never find clean water to follow his instructions with.
Totally! I’ve always wanted to hear the story of how Kirsi fell in love with music and why it reminds her of comets anyway, so it would be super fun to hear her Olaf song stories, too. Does he play any instruments? Are his hands really made of sticks? I bet that would make him an awesome drummer!
Not usually, no. It usually requires me to listen at least a dozen times. Oh, I think I know which PSA you’re talking about-- it was a while ago but Kirsi used to hum it all the time. Aw Kirby, I’m really sorry you didn’t have clean water. You’re over here and you can sing it as much as you want now, right? Do you still sing the words when you wash your hands? It’s catchy and while I don’t remember the words, I sometimes recall the tune.
I’m sure she’d love to tell you all about it including her Olaf stories. Make sure to ask about the one with the popsicle too, that one’s my favorite. Hmmm, I’ve seen him play the tambourine once but other than that, not that I can remember! That might be a question to also ask Kirsi while you’re at it. Haha, yes his hands are really made of sticks, and while I don’t think he’s ever played the drums I’ll be sure to pass on the word and make the suggestion.

I really do think so! Shoot, in this life, I’m betting on Ian, no shame and no regret, for the rest of my days - you should join me, it’s fun over here! And maybe one day there’ll be less worry and it’ll all be lighter on your head, I hope you get that very much. And aww, thanks! I wouldn’t ever wanna compete against Kirby in a light-off, she’s shiny like the sun, so I’ll try not to think of it as a competition. Sides, we’re better as a team, she and I, just like you and I are. Like the whole of us are, really. Having a group of friends is a real strength, let me tell you.
Or a Latin class, maybe. The words we’re saying mean something, I reckon, and if we know what, it might be easier to say ‘em. I don’t ever wanna lose my drawl too much, you feel me? Sometimes it’s the only thing connecting me to my pa who isn’t a nice man but was still mine.
Well now, you don’t have to be embarrassed or ashamed about being you! All parts of you are Ian and I like Ian a lot so if you’re shaming my friend, boo on you. I don’t know much about OCD, to tell you the truth, cept that I think I saw it makes someone turn on the lights and turn them off like five times afore they exit a room. That doesn’t seem too bad! And we have wands, you could just do that with magic, couldn’t you?
You’re betting on me? Are you sure? That feels like a fast way to lose a lot of money, and that doesn’t sound fun at all. I can’t give you any promises, is what I mean-- would you still root for me? Yeah, we’re a team. It’ll be us against the world one day, when we graduate. Hey, you’re right! Why didn’t I think of that? A Latin class-- that’s exactly what we need, sometimes there’s power in words when you understand what they mean too. I feel you, there are just some things that connect us to our roots we can’t ever imagine letting go of.
Thank you for standing up for me against me, it’s appreciated. I suppose sometimes I need defending against myself. Why is it that sometimes we’re the people that tear ourselves down the most rather than opposing outside forces? I don’t need to turn lights on and off again, I can visually trust myself with that. When I was a kid though, I did that for maybe a few months. It changes sometimes, it just really depends what I’m anxious about I guess.
I’m not embarrassed to be myself, what I’m embarrassed of is uh, i’m trying to think of a good example... like, I don’t wash my hands for hours on end like I read in a book once, but I do wash them a certain specific way and sometimes twice, and if I don’t then I feel like 1) they’re not clean and 2) there’s still soap all over them. Is it logically sound? Absolutely not, but making myself do it is a lot easier than not doing it then spending the next 2 hours anxious that I can’t safely touch anything cause my hands are filthy and germ-infested. What if I get someone sick? And they die? Does that make me a murderer even unintentionally? Technically no, but what if evidence traces back to me?
The answers are: it’s not probable to get someone sick unless I’m already showing signs of illness-- washing my hands once is already very sanitary. Even if I did get someone sick, the very worst would be a bug or virus. In the extreme event that a life threatening disease is released, chances that I was patient zero are next to none. Plus, even if it was traced back to me, no one’s really ever been arrested or charged for being a patient zero. I understand that, yet I still wash my hands a specific way and sometimes twice, three times, maybe four. Because I’d still rather give in and do that then risk it despite knowing it’ll never happen. I’m... ashamed of that, that I can’t exert more self-control over it.

Ian: I don't know about you, but I've decided to carry a sleeping bag with me everywhere I go now. Just in case if I go back to the ravenclaw wing and can't guess the riddle for the day. That way I can at least be somewhat comfortable when I'm locked out for the evening.
Ian: Passing the suggestion on, you should do the same! As an extra precaution.

Ian: Okay, stick with me on this-- do you know the feeling when you dream about needing to use the restroom and then when you wake up you really do need to use the restroom? I had a dream last night that you and I were travelers. Like, we were on an adventure and you had this really cool pirate hat and sword and I had a blue leather coat with long coattails. Time was really fuzzy so I don't quite remember how long our journey was but I eventually started missing home and our parents so we started to head back. The dream ended not long after but long story short, I still miss mom and dad.

@philapostolos
Phil had some of his old notes from fourth year saved, and he’d run up to his dorm to get them for Ian. He loved to help out the younger kids in Ravenclaw when he could; it made him feel kind of like his namesake. He wasn’t training a future hero or anything like that Philoctetes, but he was helping make sure people passed their classes with flying colors, and that was important in its own way. He was just on his way back down when he was pitched into darkness, and he tumbled down the last stair, barrel rolling back into the common room. “Ian?” he called out into the darkness, reaching out to try and find a chair or a table or… a human leg? “Er, sorry, is that you? I’m not trying to feel you up, I swear, I just left my wand upstairs, do you have yours?”
The hand on Ian’s leg had him standing up almost immediately, mouth open halfway about to let out a screech-- though as soon as he recognized Phil’s voice, he stopped. “It’s alright,” His voice was pitched almost an octave higher than usual, startled by the hand that suddenly reached out of nowhere to grab his leg. Letting out a sigh of relief that it was only Phil and not some nightmare-ish monster come to haunt them, he sat back into his chair with a soft thump. “I don’t, it’s in my room,” he confessed, “Are you okay? That sounded like it hurt.”

Soft and squishy on top of bone and muscle! I’m not right about everything but I’m right about this, partner - you’re made of tougher stuff than you know! All of us are. Why, thank you! She’s really better at it than me, though. I call things as I see ‘em but Kirb has a way of finding sunshine at the bottom of a well.
Hey, it’s alright if you do! I don’t mind if you do, I know it’s hard not to feel sorry for people when you do feel sorry for them and I know if that’s what you feel that it’s with love and stuff. I don’t thin kit’s douchey if that means anything to you; I think it’s nice. I don’t want bad things happening or happened to my friends neither. And I reckon that must be part of why it’s so hard! These words are meant to be said a certain way and not everyone’s mouths work like that.
I can keep a secret, Ian, cross my heart and hope to die, stick a rattler in my eye. If you wanna tell me, I wanna hear it.
Do you really think so? Thank you-- I mean, I don’t feel tough in any way at all honestly, but there’s no harm in giving myself the benefit of the doubt. Hey, maybe I am but I don’t know it yet? Hopefully that’s the case ‘cause that means in the future maybe I won’t have to worry as much. I suppose I should start reminding myself that too, maybe it could help whenever I feel particularly anxious about safety or something. You’re very right about Kirby, but I think you should also give yourself a little more credit-- you have your own way of looking at things that makes you call them out that’s just as wonderful as Kirby’s. Besides, it’s not a contest-- having the two of you together is like, twice the power!
It does mean something to me, it means a lot. Exactly! I hope in the future that Hogwarts really considers opening a few classes focusing purely on pronunciation, I really think it’d help out a lot of people.
I trust you, though it’s not exactly a secret per say, I’m just kind of... embarrassed about it? Ashamed? I don’t really even talk to Kirsi about this stuff. Uhhh do you know what OCD is and how much do you know about it? It’s nothing like how they describe it in books and TV and stuff to be honest, although some of it seems pretty similar.

@kirbymedusa
Kirby was always singing to herself, feeling like a little bit of music in her life made everything better. And as she showered to get ready for her plans with Ian later in the day was no exception; she hoped that the other people in the showers around her were enjoying today’s version of ‘Walking on Sunshine’. Even if they weren’t, the little spider who kept crawling closer to her in the shower enjoyed it, and Kirby was so happy to see that he stayed there with her even as she turned off the water and dried off and slid back into her clothes. She reached her hand out to the spider, smiling when he crawled onto her palm, and then, quick as a flash, sped off towards where she was supposed to meet Ian in the courtyard. She was early, but she was too excited to show him her new friend to care, and as she sat and waited, Kirby pondered names for the little buddy and hummed ‘you are my sunshine’ to him.
Ian was usually very punctual— often to the point of arriving extra early just in case, to make sure he wouldn’t keep any of his friends waiting for long. Today though, he found himself running behind schedule and late for meeting up with Kirby for frustrating reasons. Maybe it was because he had to re-tie his shoes three separate times, or because he went back to his room twice to make sure he didn’t leave anything essential behind. Either way, Ian was late. He quickly hurried his way down the corridor from the Ravenclaw common room, through the school, and to the courtyard, reminding himself every ten steps not to run for safety reasons. As soon as he arrived, he rushed over to Kirby, “I’m here! Sorry, I hope you haven’t been waiting for long,” he fought to catch his breath.

Is that what makes you remember stuff best? Writing them down? Because there’s a girl in my dorm who likes to turn things she wants to remember into songs, and I’m always so sad that she won’t sing them out loud for us because I bet they’d be so awesome to hear! Not that those words need to be in a song. But maybe that would make them less scary!
Could our bubble be sparkly? Then nobody would accidentally run into it and get hurt, and bonus for our lives having more sparkles. Does he have other songs, too? I bet he would love to come to Hogwarts and be in Kirsi’s band with her; she should let him guest sing sometime!
Yeah, it helps out a lot. Writing them down gives me a physical reassurance that I haven’t forgotten whatever important thing I was supposed to remember. Aw, that’s pretty smart to do since some songs can be very catchy. I wish I could do that too, but then I’d be worried about remembering all the lyrics exactly the right way and I’d have to also write it down too.
I don’t see why not, if you want it sparkly then let’s make it sparkly. Hmm, he does have a few I think, but I don’t remember them very well. Maybe you can ask Kirsi if she remembers any. I bet he would too! Maybe I should suggest it to her for them to collab sometime.
