Whenever I talk about Celestia and why I hate her to my friend (who likes Celeste and tries to defend her in every way possible) always tells me "Well, you should thank her for killing Hifumi who killed Taka." Like...no??? She's the person behind EVERYTHING in that plan. She lied about Taka "taking advantage of her sexually and blackmailing her with photos he took of her" just to get Hifumi to get rid of Taka.

Then she killed Hifumi.

And she seemed to not show any remorse. And for what?! MONEY?! Unlike Sayaka who did it for her friends, Celeste can go SUCK A DICK! No, I will never like her. Nor will I "thank her" for killing Hifumi. She manipulated Hifumi into killing an innocent person who was MENTALLY UNSTABLE!!! Using the computer SHE STOLE as a way to cope with the lost of his friend. And she took the other guy who was also obsessed with the computer and plotted against Taka who wasn't even the main target?? She was going to kill Hifumi anyways, why not just kill Hifumi and let Taka go???

Two lives were taken just so she could have MONEY! Fuck Celeste! Fuck Chapter 3! I hate that bitch! She's not girlboss, she's a sack of shit who shouldn't be defended.

"The Fledgling Fool"

(DISCLAIMER: This isn't canon. Like AT ALL. This is just a fun, silly little backstory to use for the purposes of this blog! It's based in some actual theories I have [Naomi Akutagawa and Naomi with a small ability my beolved] but the whole doctor part is only included as a way for her to have met Junichiro so that it lines up with the blod I roleplay with's backstory!)

Okay. Some backstory on what's going on..

I saw this child and went "Oh! That looks a LOT like Naomi." Even the eye shapes are the same/similar. Also she seems more important to the Akutagawa siblings that the others because she gets 2 of her own panels, as opposed to the other dead kids. Also there's this iconic panel that leads me to believe that Naomi and Gin are at least connected somehow.

Like.. Look at them:

ANYWAY!! As for the ability thing. There is NO WAY she could have survived being shot so much by Higuchi on her own, even with Yosano's help because it took them a solid while to get her back to Yosano. As such, I believe she has an acute endurance ability or something of the sort that either she doesn't know about, or she just keeps secret. The ability name given here is based on the book that Naomi is based off of a character from: "A Fool's Love."

That also may play into why Dazai decides to train her in stuff like strategy and such (as stated during The Guild Arc). He may know because of his ability that she has one, but that's just speculation of a theory based on a theory, so do with that what you will! I do love how clever she is though and the fact that she was able to sneak the keys off of the maid, and that Haruno straight-up said that Naomi would be a better detective than Tanizaki if not for her lack of ability.

OKAY. NOW INTO THE ACTUAL WRITING..

It came to Naomi in surreal flashes; blood, tears, hurried footsteps, heavy breathing, and gunshots. It all seemed too bright, and much too loud. She couldn’t seem to focus on any details. Everything about it was painful and it made her heart ache. “SAYAKA!” there was the scream, the one that haunted her. It was followed quickly by another gunshot.  Naomi’s eyes snapped open, taking in the dark, white room around her. Her hair, dripping cold sweat, fell over her left eye and she moved it out of the way. She really needed to cut it.  She steadied her breathing and got out of bed, tip-toeing around carefully so as to not alert the doctor whose facility she was in. She wasn’t sure how he did it, but he must have had cameras or microphones, because he would show up at the very worst times for her and her roommate, Junichiro Tanizaki. She felt around for Junichiro’s bed in the dark, eventually finding it and climbing in next to him. She couldn’t remember anything from her life before this place aside from this nightmare that had plagued her for many nights. As such, Junichiro was the closest thing she could remember of family. Sometimes she wonders about the people in her dream–who they were to her, if her dream was even real at all. The boy she can make out most clearly looked upset. He had black and white hair, and there was a smaller girl with long black hair pulling him back. Naomi tried to shake off the thoughts about her dream, slipping under the covers with Junichiro, who she felt waking up. “Naomi..?” he muttered sleepily, rolling over to face her. “Sorry, Jun.. Had the dream again.” she sighed, wrapping her arms around him. He pulled her close protectively and gently rubbed her back. “It’s okay.. I’m here. Go back to sleep.” he said. Naomi nodded and closed her eyes again. She slept peacefully for the rest of the night, waking up in the morning to the fluorescent lights beating down on her. She rubbed her eyes and looked around for Junichiro, who was missing from the bed beside her. Unable to find him, she frowned, knowing he had probably already gone in for whatever tests were in store for them today. She had hated the tests since she came here, but she was both grateful and resentful of the fact that she didn’t have it quite as bad as Junichiro. He didn’t deserve for things to be so bad, in her opinion. All she could do was wait for her turn. So she wasted her time however she could, and eventually was called in. The doctor had her file in his hand. She never got to see this file, and what it said about her. If she could, perhaps she would know more about herself.. In fact, it spoke of an acute ability which she would never truly be aware of. Said ability was one discovered by the doctor almost immediately; it was the only thing that saved her life when he found her in a pool of her own blood in the slums, surrounded by the corpses of 5 other children around her age. It gave her a small amount more endurance and resilience than most humans. He decided to keep it a secret from her, as it held no importance, really. He did take the liberty of naming it, though: “A Fool’s Hope.” Junichiro would eventually find this file and learn about what the doctor speculated to be Naomi’s original life, but he wouldn’t share the contents with her for many years, mostly out of concern and a desire to protect her. The one thing that Naomi did know about her file was that as soon as the doctor set it down on the table alongside his pain, she would be brutally shoved into her own personal hell. She hated being poked and prodded at like some sort of lab rat, but she held tight to a hope that maybe, just maybe, she could get out of that godawful place with Junichiro.

BurnBunny & Here's Why!! ❤️‍🔥🐇

Actually, for a while, I didn't know why I shipped Burnin and Miruko. And honestly? My ultimate reason now is because I just like to.

They're two enjoyable characters to me and I just like seeing them as a ship.

Over the months (since the end of last July) of shipping them, I have found what makes them an enjoyable ship for me and why right now they're my favorite Miruko and Burnin ship.

Now, I'm not writing this to convince anyone to ship them, I don't care if you do or don't. Because so, I honestly don't care for any disputes over any "points" I make here. If you disagree, I respectfully you just keep it to yourself.

This post is written for fun. I don't care for the "Well, I like this ship better" or anything like that.

For once, how about we remember what boundaries are and that shipping shouldn't be some high school debate? Okay? Okay then!

Onwards to what I came to love about BurnBunny!

The Characters!

It is no secret that Miruko is my #1 GODDESS of BNHA. I adore her, I think she's great and I love how both her voice actresses (Sayaka Kinoshita and Anairis Quinoñes) portray her voice in sub and dub.

I bring up voice acting because that's also something else I love about Burnin. I grew up listening to Lisa Ortiz since I watched 4Kids so hearing her as Burnin in dub did give me pleasant flashbacks to my childhood Saturday mornings. I'm also giving props to Misato Kawauchi here.

I just like both their sub and dub voices, okay?

Besides, the voices, I find both characters fun from personality to design.

They're underrated. First off, Burnin should get a lot more credit for dealing with Endeavor and the agency. Like??? I do not see a lot of other female sidekicks for him (the women in WHM were actually not from his agency). Burnin is really the only woman I see. Could you imagine being in her shoes?

And then Miruko?! Oh my gosh, don't get me started on Miruko! She has to be emotionally, mentally and physically exhausted hopping from place to place BY HERSELF.

Let me be real here, if I didn't like either of these characters, I wouldn't see the point of having a ship for them.

If I ship characters, that means I like them individually, too. I just never understood having a ship yet hating one of the characters. I just don't and never will.

Shipping them has made me appreciate them more because of just how much deep diving I have done to understand each character (more so Miruko). I explore what I can and get my mind going to come up with headcanons and theories and the like.

Potential Chemistry!

They are alike by personality and they kinda balance each other out. They can easily understand each other without having to guess and not tiptoe around problems. They can be blunt with each other.

Hear me out now.

Both Miruko and Burnin come off as characters to me as people who do love a thrill, who doesn't mind getting dirty, but at the same time does want someone to comfort them without babying them. Want someone to tell them how it is, but also is capable of being gentle and considerate.

Off rip, neither of them would hesitate to make a move. To me, Miruko would be the one to realize if she likes someone, when the time is right, she is telling that person how she feels. She would regret not doing it. Burnin, same way. She comes off as a straightforward person.

They would also understand each other. Miruko and Burnin can confide in each other because of having similar workplace experiences. They can go home to each other and talk to each other about their days of having to deal with other Heroes and saving people. They can comfort each other after some asshole criticizes them unfairly. They can treat each other to cuddles and making snacks and pillow forts because that's what they know the other needs.

The Vibes!! The Idea of Them!

Just think!! You got these two badass, gorgeous women! They could be a power couple in my eyes, have each other's backs both be it fighting villains or grocery shopping together.

Burnin can be the sun to Miruko's moon!

The Fics!

It's just so easy to writing these two, even with how little I have to go off from canon. They haven't interacted once in canon, but for my fics?

I was able to come up with a shared backstory that just fits! They went to rival hero schools, met one time during a joint school event, became friends while also having a rivalry and stayed friends for years before deciding "Hey, we should be girlfriends".

Like I need this fandom to enjoy rare pairs and F/F ships a little bit more because oh my gosh these two!!

I visualize when I write so, just the mental image of Miruko and Burnin being all soft and sweet with each other has me! Like Miruko is at the height that Burnin can kiss her forehead, just saying.

Look, after months of writing fluff fics of them I have accepted it's what I needed in life. Remember when I mentioned how shipping them made me appreciate and understand the characters? Even with, again, little from canon?

Yeah, writing them in fics got the creativity flowing and forging a relationship that could exist while also giving each other character more individually. It feels great. They're both characters that work like empty canvas that I can add on more colors onto.

They Can Be Anything I Want!

Given that this is a rare pair, they're not very popular in this fandom. While, yeah, some may say it sucks but I also came to appreciate them being so underrated.

For one, shipping discourse. I doubt there is any discourse about Burnin and Miruko as a ship because little people think about them as a ship. I doubt I will find them in some ship war because again, they're underrated.

And the beauty is I can write them how I envision them to be and rarely I'll get someone to oppose my vision. (I haven't yet and I don't want to.)

What sometimes suck about liking a popular ship is the amount of discourse and fights you'll see around it. Be it preferences in bed or who cooks and who cleans... just arguments over every little thing.

It's like people can't have different opinions, everyone must agree on one vision for that ship. 🙄

It's tiresome, it's stupid and that's why I stay in my own little corner.

Now I have my own vision of BurnBunny I enjoy and I'm sure one or two people may not see them how I do. But no matter how much I love them as a ship, I'm not the "top shipper" for them and will dictate how others should see them, just throwing that out there.

That's really I have to say for these two? Again, not looking to start a whole group of BurnBunny shippers (that sounds like a lot of work...). Not trying to convince anyone they're the best ship or anything.

Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective Episode 10 Review - The Poisoned Latte

It’s crazy how there’s only three more episodes left! No, don’t leave me! I need a Season 2 this instant! There are rumors of a Season 2 floating by, actually. Some fans notice that this cour is called Part 1, so there could be multiple parts in the future. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. The story goes back to its one-off cases, which I don’t mind. This time, our main duo accidentally get entangled in a murder case at a cafe.

It feels as if Ron and Toto are crime magnets at this point. Everywhere they go, they get roped into solving murder cases. Heck, this episode’s case, they didn’t even plan on it happening; it just happened out of the blue. Toto was at the cafe because he was going to take a quick break with Chikori while Ron just happened to be the barista working there. Is Ron stalking Toto at this point? Something similar happened during Episode 5 where he just showed up all of a sudden with hand puppets.

As a one-off case, this one is actually pretty interesting because Ron is once again suspected for murder, so Toto has to solve the case in front of Chikori; Ron still does help around, but Toto does the usual stuff like he always does. Unlike Episode 5, Toto isn’t seen as a doofus this time around. In fact, Ron even compliments that Toto’s deductions are getting better, to which I agree! Toto is improving as a detective! Compare this case to the cases before the Observatory case and you can see a difference! Toto contributed a lot to this case, but still relied on Ron, but not as much as before. Maybe there will be a day where Toto has to solve a case all by himself?

Speaking of which, a new character shows up. Chikori Monki is a crime reporter who investigates impossible crimes and ones that are known to be hard to solve. Toto’s cases haven’t been reported to the public, yet she knows about them. Her love for detectives stem from being rescued by one when she got involved in a kidnapping case as a kid. As a character, Chicory’s cute. It’s nice to see a character who really respects and idolizes Toto for a change, even if her idea of him is actually incorrect. I did like how in the beginning, her idolizing Toto was more of a romanticization of detectives due to her past, but towards the end of the episode, she realizes that Toto is a hard working detective who is human, but her respect for him is still up there. It’s also a nice breath of fresh air to see a character who doesn’t like Ron for a change as Chikori finds Ron annoying. It’s like a total day and night difference with Amamiya who looks down on Toto but has a crush on Ron.

The three girls were a case of toxic friendship. Hayami, the culprit, killed Julie, the victim, because she hated the fact that she stole her boyfriend and that she was also jealous of her being the center of attention. Girl, if you hated her that much, maybe cut her out from your life? Did you really have to resort to murder to get back at her? The moral of this episode’s story is that the short-haired girl, Tamada, needs better friends, ones that care about each other without resorting to murder. I was so surprised when I saw the names of their voice actors in the credits. These three girls are voiced by Maaya Uchida (Julie), Yui Ishikawa (Hayami) and Sayaka Senbongi (Tamada). These three are popular voice actresses! I’m surprised that the director would cast them as minor characters here! Then again, the minor character voice casting have been crazy! I actually didn’t recognize their voices because they were using tones that were much different from their usual roles; it felt like they were using their normal voices.

I loved the comedy moments for this episode! The way Ron was all cool and suave while doing platypus latte art as Hayami mistook them for ducks was hilarious! I’ve never seen Ron that shocked. I theorize he was holding a grudge ever since, hence why he wanted Hayami to bash her head. Ron’s eccentric behavior around Chikori was hilarious too! He just wants a case, but it has been slow at the station! Ron needs money to get by, which is why he has so many jobs that could give Touya Kinomoto a run for his money. I think the beginning was also hilarious with the way the Floor of Indolence turns out to be removable and long.

Since the big observatory case has come to a close, and this case was only an episode long, what are they planning for the remaining three episodes? A three-parter to conclude this season? Three one-parters? I’m super curious. What are your thoughts on this episode?

Only thing that's different now is that I'm legally an adult, which is both good and bad depending on how you look at it. I know the f'ing pigs are happy..."

"My friends and homegirls bought me some sake for my birthday. It's actually a name-brand kind, not like the kind I drink at the bar almost every night. I'm almost tempted not to drink it. ...Psyche! I can't wait to down this baby later on!"

"You know, I did some research on what's so special about the 21st of June. Aside from having the same day of birth as that army guy from fucking Yokohama, the 21st is typically known as 'Summer Solstice'. Apparently, some cultures celebrate it cause it's the beginning of Summer or something like that. I don't really get it, but... well, I guess it's nice to be born on the same day as a season."

"I'm 21 years old. ...Man, no matter how much I say it, it's still hard to believe. I mean, like I said before, nothing really changes now that I'm older. Age, to me, is nothing but a number. But you're growing into a mature, beautiful, young lady. And I couldn't be any prouder. You know I'm always going to support and love you regardless of who you are. Never forget that, my dear."

"Now then, please accept this gift I bought you! Normally, I don't care for store-bought gifts, but Sayaka-san recommended these since she gave similar bracelets to Kureha-chan for her birthday. I hope you enjoy them. ...Oh, Aranai-chan! Thank you! You make up part of my heart as well! And that will never change, no matter what! I love you very much, my child."

Kisouna Lines:

"Happy birthday, Aranai. ...What? That's all you have to say after I took time to come all this way here to congratulate you on making it to the age of 21, which, by the way, is the legal age at which you can now be tried and prosecuted as an adult? Ugh, of course you'd do something like that, you little miscreant. If that's how you wish to act, then I'll gladly return this gift I purchased for you."

"Hmph, that's better. Here, this didn't come cheap, so you'd best appreciate it. Yes, it's a phone mount for that terror on two wheels you're always driving around on. You mentioned before how you have trouble talking while you're driving, so I thought to give you this. ...You're right, I did say that. But seeing as how you break the law on a daily basis, I figure what's one more law going to hurt? ...Ha, you? Get into an accident? I should be so lucky."

I rewatched all of Nagisa's Wish because I was misremembering some things, and the transformation she goes through over the course of that short story is very interesting to me.

Nagisa at the beginning: "This is fine. I'm happy with my life. I'm loved. What would I even wish for? It would be a waste to use magic powers to wish for something ordinary. You want me to be a magical girl? I've read tragedies before, I know how this goes. Do it yourself, Animal."

Nagisa at the end: "I was going to wish for a cure, you know? I bet you wish you loved me more now. Look, I used infinite power for a regular old cheesecake. I traded your life for this. I'll be free now. Free from loving you. Free from needing to care about anyone else. Die. Die knowing I could have saved you. Die knowing it's your fault I didn't!"

Only she doesn't get to say what she wanted in the end, because her mother died of causes unrelated to her illness, so Nagisa's whole plan to waste her wish on a cake to force her mother to beg with her dying breath, and maybe even tell her "I love you," as disingenuine as it would have been, wasn't able to happen. She would have died anyway, cured or not.

Though she did beg, Nagisa just seemed dead inside while she watched her mother bleed out. Nothing went the way she wanted it to and, even if it had, maybe she would have felt just as ruined even then. Perhaps what she thought she wanted in that moment wasn't really accurate. She said she was finished caring about other people, but Charlotte's thoughts immediately after contradict that.

Nagisa started off unwilling to think about her situation, then she started picking up steam when Yu seeded the idea of "Freedom" and then she put her all into this revenge plan only to burn out in the end when nothing came of it.

Her initial idea for a wish was very similar to Sayaka's, ulterior motives included. Though Nagisa intended on actually telling the recipient it was her who did it.

I want my mom to be grateful to me. I want her to know that I was the one who cured her sickness. I'm sure my mom will be sorry that she didn't love me.

But she reaches a breaking point after another conversation with her mother and changes her mind.

Because Mom ignores me! Because Mom pushes her problems on me! Because Mom hates me! I'll force her into my debt. I'll do anything, if it makes her regret the way she treated me! I won't let a witch kill my mom! Mom can't die, because I'm going to save her! Mom will die only because I didn't save her with my wish!

Are you tired of being nice? Don't you want to go apeshit?

A bandaid hc of mine is Ibuki loves to make flower crowns, she makes them for all her friends, but when she notices how happy Mikan is when she first gives her one Ibuki decides to just make them for mikan all the time with all different kinds of flowers as an attempt to make her happy and woo her. Ibuki one day attaches a note to one of them asking Mikan on a date, and they both wear flower crowns on the date (Ibukis playful requirement). On their wedding day they end up wearing flower crowns because of it. Ibuki isn't one to typically get flustered, but she becomes a blushing mess whenever she sees Mikan wearing one of her flower crowns and smiling, and she just ends up tackle hugging her. <3 <3 <3

Celestia is usually good at having a healthy sleep schedule, but occasionally she'll stay up till like 4 a.m. making up stories, gossiping, and discussing conspiracy theories with Kokichi while they play chess together. When Kyoko sees Kokichi and Celestia talking about the most random chaotic shit at 2 a.m., she'll just walk over to them with a coffee cup in her hand and grand bois cheri on top of her head and be like "get some sleep, can't believe you are hearing this from ME. /lh" Maki once saw because she got up to use the bathroom, and she just quietly walked back to her room /lh

Celestia likes to gamble with "loser has to kiss the winner" and will purposefully lose to Kyoko in games. Kyoko will roll her eyes while wearing the biggest smirk on her face as Celestia happily kisses her.

Kyoko most definitely will just randomly cover Celestia with her jacket when she gets over protected. Some boys in high school used to hit on Celestia because they liked her aesthetic, but would immediately be scared off by Kyoko's glare at them. Celestia loves to tease her about this but does something similar. Whenever someone seems to be hitting on her, she'll just walk up and hug Kyoko from behind and give the person an "innocent smile". They are protective gfs your honor /lh

Neither of them saw Disney movies until Sayaka told then they had to watch them with their kids. Now celesgiri + ko + maki all watch tangled at least once a month

Celestia likes to call Kyoko the queen of her heart as a reference to the queen of hearts card :)))

I hc Kyoko to be nonbinary (she/they) and autistic but they have trouble talking about her identity. So when Celestia came out to her as a trans lesbian and later told her she had adhd, she felt a bit relieved but also felt guilty she didn't come out after her. Took a few months and one day she did, and when they confessed to being nervous Celestia just gave her a big hug and a forehead kiss, telling them that they were beautiful and valid being themself and that she was glad they trusted her.

Idk I just really like to imagine this and the first time Kyoko goes to pride is with Celestia when they first started dating, and Celestia is all out in pride gear while Kyoko is just wearing a rainbow pin and is holding her hand. Celestia reassures her it's okay and they are get really into pride and are excited to go back again. They have a bunch of photos from that date, and one of them made it into a slide show at their wedding >:)

Nobody in the kirigiri family is neurotypical, kokichi also has adhd and so does Maki. They all just infodump about their favorite topics together and its very wholesome.

Celestia loves it when Kyoko has her hair up. She'll give them playful neck kisses (/nsx), play with their hair by lightly floofing it up or braiding it, nuzzle her nose into the side of their neck, etc. Kyoko loves it when Celestia drops her clip on and just loves to playfully ruffle her hair, give her forehead kisses and kiss the top of her head. They just snuggle a lot okay aksgscsksc

Kyoko and Celestia both hate the beach, so whenever the group goes to the beach they sneak off back to the car and just spend the day listening to music and reading while sharing a milkshake in the car until everyone is ready to leave. Lots of cuddles and playful jokes ensue. One time the gang returned to find them both snuggling while asleep and drew cat whiskers on both their faces and took pictures of it. Kyoko had it set as her wallpaper for about a year or two until she got married to Celestia and changed it to one of their wedding photos. Later to be changed to her favorite photo of them, Celestia, kokichi and Maki all together.

Chiaki Nanami Please don’t kill me for not putting her in S. I can explain, I promise Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore her and love her relationship with Hajime, but I didn’t really get as attached to her as I did with other characters. I still love her though

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu He has one of the best character arcs in the series, only JUST being outranked by Shuichi. Seriously, best SDR2 survivor, hands DOWN.

Ultimate Imposter Yep. Fake Togami outranks actual Togami by miles. YEAH I SAID IT! Idk, I found them a lot more interesting and likeable than Togami and it was a real shame they got killed off so early. They were pretty fun.

Ryoma Hoshi ...Do I even need to explain why he ranked so high? Like, come ON! He’s one of the most underrated characters in the franchise!

Hajime Hinata 3rd best protag for me (yes I’m counting Kaede shut up), but I still love his arc. 

Kiyotaka Ishimaru He was my fave from the first game for a while, but the Kiyondo stuff kinda brought him down for me. And ngl, at times it feels like people only judge him based on his friendship with Mondo. I still love him though.

Mondo Owada Chapter 2. Need I say more. He’s a pretty cool character outside of that, too.

Komaru Naegi Just copy-paste my reason for Ryoma, it’s practically the same.

Nagisa Shingetsu Best Warrior of Hope. Hands down. I will die on this hill.

Maki Harukawa Okay don’t get me wrong, I like her as a character, but the main problem I had was that her crush on Kaito kinda came out of left field for me. Like, she was a stoic unfeeling assassin and she suddenly fell head over heels for some astronaut that knocked on her door a few times. It feels pretty rushed (though knowing Tsumugi it probably was) and kinda brings her down a few pegs for me.

Korekiyo Shinguji “Why is he ranked so high!? He’s the freaky incest guy-” SHUT UP. Yes, his character was absolutely obliterated by the incest twist, but outside of that he is actually a pretty compelling character. (also if you look into his writing it’s pretty heavily implied that his sister used and abused him so judging him based on the incest thing alone is kinda odd ngl)

Ibuki Mioda She’s pretty fun. I’m not as head-over-heels for her as other people, but she’s pretty fun.

Celestia Ludenberg See, Ouma stans? THIS is how you do a compelling liar character!

Peko Pekoyama Please don’t kill me. It’s just that outside of Fuyuhiko she kinda felt......Eh? Like don’t get me wrong, I like her, but something always felt missing for me.

Kyoko Kirigiri Please don’t kill me. Like...She’s okay, but for a while I found her kinda......Dull? Idk what to say here.

Makoto Naegi He’s alright, but he’s the weakest protagonist for me.

Tsumugi Shirogane I think people are gonna agree with me the most on this. She’s a decent villain, but the "plainy plainy plain” stuff got REALLY old. (which is partially why I rewrote her entirely in DFTH oops) She’s better than Junko by a long shot, so at least she has that.

Kirumi Tojo She was okay until the nonsensical prime minister twist. Seriously, I detest that twist.

Angie Yonaga ...I don’t really have much to say on her. Like the Atua stuff got pretty old and I found her kinda annoying, but she has enough to put her above the characters I don’t like.

Mahiru Koizumi She kinda felt like a better Tenko, but...Uh...

Teruteru Hanamura Yeah, I don’t outright dislike Teruteru. Shocking, I know. His backstory and the stuff with his mom is charming enough, but the perverted stuff still kinda icks me out. It’s not as bad as Miu’s, though.

Genocider Syo She’s more interesting than Toko, but still not really that much there other than “serial killer that somehow got accepted into this academy but don’t think about that look how quirky she is!!”

Tenko Chabashira Similar to Angie. But the way she drooled over and chased after Himiko was kinda eeeh for me. Not as bad as Souda though, thank god

D tier

Byakuya Togami God, he’s such an asshole. Sure his development and the stuff he does is interesting, but GOD HE’S SUCH AN ASSHOLE.

Akane Owari She’s the most “why the hell are you still here” out of the survivors for me. Like, I don’t outright hate her, but a lot of the time it kinda feels to me like she’s only there for fanservice. (seriously, in one of her sprites she’s literally flashing you. Do I need to say anything else?)

Himiko Yumeno Yeah, she’s also pretty weak for me. Her development post chapter 3 was okay I guess, but it kinda felt too little too late.

Toko Fukawa Ugh. Sure, I don’t really like Togami, but the way she drools over him is gross. Sure she’s somewhat redeemed by her development in UDG, but other than that she doesn’t really offer much.

Yasuhiro Hagakure Didn’t really felt like he offered much other than “blatant comic relief who’s probably a stoner”.

Masaru Daimon The weakest out of the Warriors of Hope by a long shot. Sure, his backstory’s pretty sad, but his personality kinda grated on me, ngl.

Kokichi Ouma PLEASE DON’T KILL ME. Like, everyone hails him as the best written character of the series, but if you look closer into his writing it’s actually pretty bad. Not to mention the stans constantly excusing his actions because “uwu liar boy who’s gay for Shuichi” REALLY brings him down.

Kazuichi Souda He’s literally all the things people hate about Teruteru, but the fandom barely calls him out for it! Hooray!

Miu Iruma She’s basically just there for NSFW jokes. Need I say more. Also, why is no-one else talking about how problematic the maintenance scene was?

Nekomaru Nidai He’s basically just there for shit jokes. And that really got old for me.

Look, I’m not gonna deny she was kinda cute, but what she pulled in chapter 1 was honestly really fucking snakey. “But she didn’t know about the class trial stuff!” So what? She was willing to use practically the only person in the academy she was close to as a fall guy so she could get away with murder and didn’t even bat an eye! Even if the trial stuff didn’t happen and she DID get away with killing Leon, did she really think everyone would be okay with it? Hell, did she even CONSIDER how Makoto felt!? Why Saiouma isn’t toxic

(CW: in-depth discussion of abuse, discussion of rape/noncon)

           Disclaimer(s): This is an intellectual discussion, not a screaming match. If you’re here to argue with facts and evidence, I don’t mind debating with you. If you just want to throw a tantrum because I like something you don’t, I’m going to tell you to take a Xanax and go to bed.

           I’m combining the terms “toxic” and “abusive”; though they aren’t technically the exact same, they’re similar enough for the purposes of this essay.

           This essay isn’t meant to convince you to ship Saiou. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it. But it’s not right to scream ‘abuse’ where none exists; it hurts fans and content creators, and it “diminishes the importance of that word and it reduces [it] to something volatile and stupid.”

           To begin with, we have to identify what makes a relationship abusive. The way I define it, an abusive relationship involves manipulation, an inherent power imbalance, and/or physical or sexual abuse. Most of the hate-posts I’ve seen paint Kokichi as the abuser and Shuichi as the hapless victim, so that will be the focus of this essay.

1. Would Kokichi manipulate Shuichi for personal gain?

           There’s no denying that Kokichi is a manipulative person. He’s a liar and he did some awful things in the game. No one’s saying he’s a morally white character. But it would be wrong to say he’s entirely evil, either.

           I’ve already covered in this post why Kokichi can’t be said to lie for personal gain, but I’ll quote a bit of it here.

           “The motivation [behind Kokichi’s lies] isn’t self-serving—he’s motivated by a desire to end a death game and stop anyone from having to go through what he and his friends have ever again. The smaller lies, though, like lying about his favorite foods? It would be annoying to be tricked like that, but it’s way too much of a stretch to label it psychological abuse.”

           We know that Kokichi’s DICE organization has a moral taboo against murder. We know he hated the killing game, to the point where he orchestrated his own suicide in order to ruin it. And almost every time Kokichi lies in the class trials, it’s either for comedic relief or to push the cast toward finding the culprit.

           “But Chapter 4!” you protest. “Kokichi manipulated Gonta into killing Miu!”

           My response is threefold:

-        Miu started it. Kokichi wouldn’t have done anything at all if his life wasn’t in danger and he wasn’t desperate.

-        It’s wrong to think that Gonta is incapable of making his own decisions. Kokichi may have influenced him in that direction, but Gonta actively made the choice to kill Miu—his own avatar confirms it at the end of the trial. (See also: Impytricky’s “Gonta Gokuhara Character Analysis: When a Genius is Treated like a Child”)

-        Kokichi felt terrible about what happened in Trial 4, to the point where he begged Monokuma to execute him along with Gonta. He didn’t need to do that, and it throws off his whole “I’m the mastermind” act just a few lines later, so we must assume he was being honest about that. It’s clear that he doesn’t enjoy hurting others.

           If that’s still not enough for you, consider: desperation, and, by extension, the killing game, brings out the worst in people. We can’t accurately judge a person’s character if all we have to go off of is the worst parts of them. Would Leon have killed Sayaka outside of the killing game? Would Hifumi have agreed to help Celestia kill Taka? Would Gundham have killed Nekomaru?

           So, would Kokichi manipulate Shuichi for personal gain? No. His whole character is motivated by a desire to help the others, and his lies are either manifestations of that motivation or harmless pranks meant to entertain.

2. Does the Saiouma ship have an inherent power imbalance?

           Shuichi is, by his own admission, weak. Kokichi has a strong personality and likes to be in charge. That doesn’t mean that Kokichi doesn’t respect Shuichi and his opinions. In fact, each class trial is packed with evidence of Kokichi listening to Shuichi’s point of view and respecting his intelligence. For instance:

-        Kokichi sided with Shuichi during scrum debates 2, 3, and 4

-        Kokichi pointed out most of Shuichi’s lies during the trials (and back routes), but in most cases, didn’t fight him on it

-        Shuichi is the only character identified as “trustworthy” by the white board in Kokichi’s room—i.e., Kokichi trusted him to at least be on the right track in the trials.

           Kokichi is also shown to care about Shuichi’s feelings in the game, like when he told him he’d rather bring Kaede back to life in Chapter 3, because it would make Shuichi happy. To reiterate: he wants Shuichi to be happy even if it means they don’t end up together. That says a lot.

           Additionally, I already mentioned that Shuichi is weak, but it’s important to realize that he isn’t so much of a pushover that he’s entirely incapable of standing up for himself. Look at his interactions with Miu, for example: he sharply told her that “I can wear a hat if I want” when she made fun of him for it, and in her FTEs, he refuses to eat the hygienically questionable food she made for him.

           Shuichi’s kind of a simp and tends to get roped into things, yes. But he’s able to stand up for himself—especially after Chapter 6—to the point where he wouldn’t enter into a relationship unless he wanted to. If you think Kokichi would somehow be able to force Shuichi to be his boyfriend, you have no faith in Shuichi—and Chapter 6 proves you wrong.

           So, is Saiouma inherently imbalanced? No. Kokichi respects Shuichi’s feelngs, intelligence, and opinions, and Shuichi’s a stronger character than he’s given credit for.

3. Would Kokichi physically or sexually abuse Shuichi?

           One needs only to look at Kokichi’s Love Hotel event for the answer. While the Love Hotel isn’t canon to the game’s timeline, the characters are still in character— that is, Kokichi and Shuichi are acting as they normally act.

           It’s important to note that Kokichi is the only character who backed off of Shuichi after Shuichi either appeared visibly uncomfortable or told them to stop. Kaede asked for Shuichi’s consent and was given it; Angie, Himiko, Kiyo, Miu, and Tsumugi all took advantage of Shuichi in some way or another; and the rest just didn’t have sexual connotations. Kokichi made advances on Shuichi, noticed that Shuichi was uncomfortable, and immediately backed off.

           “But wait!” you cry. “Just because one character didn’t rape the other doesn’t mean they have a good relationship!”

           Of course, and that’s important to realize, too. But recall that the purpose of this essay isn’t to convince you to ship Saiouma—it’s to prove that it isn’t abusive.

           Keep in mind that this was Kokichi’s fantasy— he would have been able to do whatever he wanted to Shuichi with zero repercussions, and Shuichi probably wouldn’t even remember much when he woke up. And still, Kokichi chose to stop the moment he realized Shuichi wasn’t on board with what was happening. That says a lot.

           And what about outside the game? We know from the Salmon Mode ending that Kokichi is desperate for someone to “figure him out.” He’d be very careful not to jeopardize his relationship with someone who genuinely wants to understand him.

           And Shuichi does genuinely want to understand him:

           So, would Kokichi physically or sexually abuse Shuichi? No. It’s just not in his character.

“But what if Kokichi was lying about EVERYTHING IN THE WHOLE GAME?” you yell. “There’s no way we can trust anything he’s ever said ever!”

           If every Danganronpa character was polite, kind, open, and honest, 100% of the time without fail, the game would be incredibly boring. If that’s the kind of media you’re into, I’d recommend something like Reader Rabbit or Winnie the Pooh. Danganronpa is a murder mystery, where characters hurt and betray and lie and actually kill each other. You can’t trust anyone; that’s the whole point.

           So I advise you to go back through the game with an open mind and try, actually try, to use reading comprehension skills to understand the characters. Examine their motives, think about what they might be feeling when they make the decisions they do.

           Danganronpa is not the kind of game to spoon-feed you easy-to-swallow characters. You have to pick them apart yourself.

           As for everything Kokichi has ever said possibly being a lie? Maybe. Maybe every character is lying to you. But if you hate Kokichi just because he’s dishonest, then it follows that you have to hate Rantaro, Kaede, Shuichi, Kaito, Maki, Himiko, Kiyo, Miu, Tsumugi, Kirumi, and Kiibo—which, at that point, why are you even a fan of the game?

           And if you deny everything Kokichi said just because you think it’s a lie…

 In conclusion

           You can dislike Saiouma because it’s not your thing, but it’s wrong to spread hate over abuse that doesn’t exist. Hating and attacking people for having a different opinion than you won't magically sway them to your side. If you can't articulate your points in a way that doesn't antagonize, you probably shouldn't be talking. People like what they like for a reason, and spitting on what they like won't make you any friends.

           And throwing around weighted terms like “toxic” when you just don’t like something? That makes YOU the toxic one.

headcanons for the survivors of each game taking tokens from the dead

Makoto Naegi - takes Sayaka's hairclips and Leon's padlock necklace. he takes Sayaka's hair clips as a means of remembering her as a friend, and Leon's necklace as a reminder of what humanity is capable of, both good and bad. it's a bit of a mix of good and bad reminders.

Kyouko Kirigiri - takes Junko's Monokuma hairclips, mostly as a prize. she wants to remember what she went through and how it made her stronger, and also to remember that despite everything that she went through, she kept going.

Byakuya Togami - takes Chihiro's toolkit and Junko's tie. despite acting like he doesn't care, he really feels bad for what he did to Chihiro, and wants to remind himself of that guilt. Junko's tie is basically a war-prize, and sometimes he even wears it underneath his suits.

Aoi Asahina - takes Sakura's wraps. she never wore them, only keeping them as a memento of her closest friend. it's a reminder of the sacrifice that she made and the love she had in her heart for all of her classmates.

Yasuhiro Hagakure - takes shards of the crystal ball Leon used, and Hifumi's broken glasses. he spent good fucking money on that crystal ball and he's not gonna let that go to waste. but fr he just wants to have that reminder. honestly he just kinda grabbed Hifumi's glasses instinctually for some reason, and then ended up actually getting a pair similar to them later on.

Touko Fukawa - takes some of the rope from Chihiro's body and a shard of the bottle that hit Sakura. the shard was taken as Syo, but the rope was taken by her. it's a reminder of her guilt for hurting Sakura, as well as the stigma that came with being outed as having DID. after UDG she's holding on to one of Kotoko's devil horn headbands and a piece of leather from Jataro's mask.

Hajime Hinata - takes Nagito's jacket and Chiaki's hair clip. he feels responsible for the deaths of everyone in the Neo World Program, and as such probably took little trinkets from every single case, but he particularly wanted to keep Nagito and Chiaki close to him.

Akane Owari - takes some of Nekomaru's chains, and holds on to a skewer of Teruteru's. Nekomaru's chains are a reminder of him and their friendship, whereas she really doesn't like Teruteru, but she enjoyed his food so much that she almost missed him by proxy.

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu - takes Peko's bamboo sword and one of Ibuki's guitar picks. he also probably has a photo from Mahiru. all of them are guilt-based memoirs. he feels guilty for being rude to Ibuki after she held an entire concert in his honor, which is why he keeps one of her picks with him.

Sonia Nevermind - takes Gundam's scarf (along with the Dark Devas) and Chiaki's hoodie. they were two of her closest friends, and she wants to remember them always. she promised to take care of the Devas, and has been such a good owner to them since.

Kazuichi Souda - takes a piece of Mechamaru and Gundam's earring. as much as he wants to say that he hated Gundam, he really did think that they could've been good friends, and feels guilty for putting Sonia and Gundam under so much stress and scrutiny for being close. he also really wanted to keep a part of Nekomaru, and felt like keeping a piece of Mechamaru was best.

Komaru Naegi - takes Nagisa's scarf, Masaru's headphones, and Yuta's jacket. she also keeps a pair of Syo's scissors, despite Syo still being alive. she was tempted to keep Monaca's headband, but decided against it.

Kyousuke Munakata - takes Juzo's jacket and the knife that Chisa used to stab herself. they're both his personal reminders that he can't save everyone, even if they're close to him. he also uses them to remind himself about the love that comes from others, and how despite all of his wrongdoings, he deserves it.

Ryouta Mitarai - takes Tengan's coat and Bandai's straw hat. he keeps Tengan's coat despite knowing that he had manipulated him into trying to brainwash the world, simply because he still feels guilty. Bandai's hat is just a reminder of the kindness in the world, and the hope that exists without needing to implant it.

Shuuichi Saihara - takes Kaito's jacket and Kaede's hair clips. for the v3 survivors, i equate them with 3 ways of coping with trauma. Shuuichi is reminiscence, and is by far the healthiest of the 3, keeping Kaito and Kaede with him as a reminder to keep pushing forward and to make the world a better place.

Maki Harukawa - takes Hoshi's hat and Ouma's neck kerchief. Maki is repentance, and is the least healthy in terms of coping. she feels like she condemned them both to death, and has that on her conscience almost always. she wanted to take something of Kaito's, but decided against it, as a way of keeping herself in pain, almost.

Himiko Yumeno - takes Angie's jacket and Tenko's hair accessory. Himiko is regret, and is coping in a regressive manner. she feels guilty for not spending more time and being nicer to Tenko, and feels sad that her close friendship with Angie made her a target in Korekiyo's eyes. she thought about taking Shinguuji's mask, but decided against it after realizing that it would make her taking Angie and Tenko's keepsakes feel less impactful.

Of course! This was a lot of fun to write! 

Prompt: “Wait a minute. Are you jealous?”

Jealousy 

It was hot. Hot and sticky and miserable. Truth be told, Mary wished Kirari would have chosen a less humid location for a getaway. Technically, Mary wasn’t even supposed to be there considering this was a student council event. She wasn’t fond of a single person on the council aside from Ririka, who was the only reason why Mary agreed to go in the first place.

She just couldn’t say no to Ririka who was so excited to go and was happy to invite her to come along. Besides, sharing a hotel room alone with her girlfriend and relaxing without the burden of school work for a few days didn’t sound like a bad idea at first. Anyone would have jumped at the opportunity to go on an all expense paid trip to an exotic tropical island in another country with their significant other after all.

What Mary wasn’t prepared for was the blazing hot sun, humid weather, and having to shop for a new bathing suit and temporary clothes with Ririka because their luggage got mixed up with someone else's at the airport.

What she certainly wasn’t prepared for was the overly flirtatious clerk at the swimsuit shop who was all too eager to help Ririka find a perfect fit. Ririka was oblivious, of course, and didn’t understand that the young man was heavily flirting with her. But Mary knew and it was starting to piss her off the longer his eyes greedily awaited for Ririka to exit the dressing room in a bikini she had picked out.

“I don’t know, it looks a little tight in the bust,” Ririka said shyly from the dressing room.

“Oh yeah? Why don’t you come out? Then I can see if you need a bigger size or maybe take your measurements,” the man grinned, reaching for the handle of the door.

“Um, no. I think the fuck not,” Mary stopped him in his tracks. “I’ll be the judge of that, thank you.”

The man raised a brow at her. “Alright, ma’am. See if your friend needs a bigger size then.”

Friend. The word made Mary bite her tongue for she wanted to say she was much more than Ririka’s friend. It left a bitter taste in Mary’s mouth as she grumbled, walking into the changing room.

Almost instantly, her sour mood shifted the moment she saw her girlfriend shyly holding her arms as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. The bikini was an aquamarine color and fit her body near perfectly. It showed off her well toned stomach and seemed to fit in all the right places. She was stunning as always, only now even more so.

Ririka smiled slightly, blushing when she saw Mary’s wide-eyed expression. “H-how do I look?”

“Hot,” Mary breathed out. “I-I mean you look great!”

“Thank you, love. Do you think it shows off too much of my body though?” Ririka asked, lowering her arms.

To Mary, it didn’t show off enough. Not that she’d ever admit. However, it was revealing enough that she knew people would definitely look twice if they walked past Ririka. It was hard enough for her to keep her own eyes off of Ririka, but perhaps that was only because she was her girlfriend. Besides, Ririka was going to be wearing this bathing suit for one reason and one reason only: to swim. It was either this or a wetsuit, which both Kirari and Mary discouraged her from doing since the ocean water was relatively warm and it would have just been a hassle.

“Would you like a one piece instead?” Mary snickered.

Ririka pouted. “Well, not really. I kind of wanted to get a tan.”

“Babe, you don’t tan. You burn,” Mary scoffed. “And this’ll mean you’ll need to put on extra sunscreen.”

“Hm, maybe you’re right. I’ll just get a one piece,” Ririka agreed, beginning to strip down.

“You could get both,” Mary suggested. “One for the beach and one for the pool at the hotel or for other occasions. That is if it’s in our budget.”

Ririka grinned. “Money’s not an issue, so I think I will! Thank you, dearest.”

Mary maintained her tsundere attitude, rolling her eyes when Ririka briefly pecked her lips. However, she failed to hide her blush or the smirk that made its way onto her face from the sudden affection from her lover.

“Yeah, yeah. Let’s just hurry up so we can meet the others at the beach spot,” Mary chuckled.

Ririka’s hand intertwined with Mary’s and she grinned as they walked along the sandy sidewalk. Seeing Ririka smile warmed Mary's heart; she rarely saw her girlfriend smile. She was used to seeing the creepy smile of Ririka’s mask, something Mary was grateful Ririka left behind for this trip.

Mary received several glances from onlookers, which she normally wouldn’t pay any attention to. Until she realized they weren’t staring at the two of them, they were staring at Ririka. She was in her two piece and Mary supposed that and Ririka’s platinum hair drew a bit of attention. She protectively held her girlfriend close to her, scowling at whoever stared at her for too long.

Ririka paid no attention to that or the people who looked at her. She only smiled brighter, thinking Mary was only being extra affectionate to her which she’d gladly accept. She’d never deny it since Mary typically only showed her affection when they were alone or occasionally when they were with friends.

“Clingy today, hm?” Ririka teased.

“Maybe,” Mary grumbled, her cheeks reddening.  

Ririka recognized that tone of voice. Mary was greatly irritated by something. What it was, Ririka couldn’t figure out yet. It was hot outside and she knew how much Mary hated hot weather, but soon they’d be in the cool, soothing water of the ocean. So she didn’t dwell much on the thought.

Once they arrived at the location, they were greeted by Kirari and Sayaka. Kirari immediately handed her sister a bottle of sunscreen, to which Ririka began to complain. The two started to bicker while Sayaka insisted for Ririka to apply sunblock. The conversation bored Mary, so she walked over to an empty area and took her beach towel out of her bag. She laid it across the sand before sitting down, watching sea birds dive into the ocean.

Eventually, Ririka walked over to Mary in defeat, plopping down on the towel. She laid her head in Mary’s lap and pouted, looking up at her.

“Riri, you’re gonna get sunscreen on my jeans!” Mary laughed, brushing a loose strand of hair out of Ririka’s face.

“Kirari put too much on me,” Ririka cringed, trying to rub the whiter areas on her arms that still had sunblock on it. “I don’t burn that badly.”

Mary snorted. “Yeah you do. Even worse than I do.”

“Whatever,” Ririka groaned. “I want to swim eventually. Maybe I’ll see some fish.”

“Nah, chances are you’ll only see Midari trying to drown,” Mary replied. “If you’re lucky, you’ll see Yuriko-senpai drown trying to save her.”

Ririka looked out at the shore, seeing Midari chasing Yuriko with a dead or perhaps horrifyingly still alive sea jelly as the poor girl shrieked and tried to evade her. “Hm... or Yuriko will try to drown Midari herself.”  

“Yeah and Midari would probably let her,” Mary snickered as she too watched Midari torment Yuriko. “Maybe that was her plan all along, the damn masochist.”

“I don’t know,” Ririka sighed in disinterest. “Will you go swimming with me?”

“Later maybe. I don’t wanna get covered in sand if I can avoid it,” Mary responded curtly. "Besides, then I'd have to change out of my jeans which I really don't wanna do."

Ririka grinned, wrapping her arms around the blonde’s waist. “Do you want to just stay like this for a while then?”

“I can get used to this,” Mary smirked in agreement.

And so they did, enjoying the ocean breeze and each other’s presence. For a while at least, until Kirari and Sayaka returned. Mary only glared at them as they approached, hoping they were only coming over to grab something from their bag or that they’d walk right past them.

“We’re playing badminton,” Kirari announced with her signature sly smile, wrapping her arm around Sayaka.

“That’s nice. Have fun, I guess,” Mary raised a brow at them in dismissal.

Sayaka’s face was bright red, regardless of her efforts of trying to remain in her professional Secretary persona. “T-the President is referring to the four of us.”

“Tch, I’m not playing against her. She never plays fair for gambling or sports,” Mary scoffed.

“Your incapability in athletics is no excuse for accusing me of not playing fair, Saotome,” Kirari faked a pout that made Mary’s blood boil.

“We’ll play only if I choose who’s on each side,” Ririka chimed in. “And Mary is very athletic, Rari. Her flexibility is impeccable.”

Mary’s face felt hot as Ririka winked at her, catching on to the double entendre. “T-thanks.”

Kirari pursed her lips. “Very well then. I have no issue with this.”

Ririka grinned and looked at Sayaka who was still practically attached to Kirari by the hip. “Sayaka, are you alright with being my partner for this?”

Mary instantly felt a stab of betrayal and she could tell by Kirari’s sudden shift in expression that the feeling was very much mutual. The younger twin squinted at the blonde, silently voicing her displeasure with this sudden arrangement. Mary shot back a sinister glare with just as much venom.

It was clear neither were expecting Ririka to choose Sayaka. It would have been less surprising had she chosen Kirari, even. Perhaps this was all for Ririka’s entertainment, knowing that Kirari and Mary would rather eat sand than pair up together for anything.

Sayaka gave Kirari a look of panic to which Kirari gave a slight nod, kissing Sayaka’s forehead before releasing her. Sayaka’s expression immediately softened.

Sayaka gave a light smile. “I would be honored to be your partner, Ririka-san.”

Jealousy tugged at Mary’s heart. She despised feeling jealous of Sayaka, someone she knew followed Kirari around like a lost puppy and devoted her life to her. Maybe it was because she knew Ririka shared the same face as Kirari that made her feel like Sayaka was some sort of threat. Mary of all people knew that Ririka and Kirari were two very different people, regardless of their similar features. Yet it still got under her skin.

“Now that it’s settled, I’m going to ask Runa to be the score keeper,” Kirari spoke up; her tone was bitter.

Mary sighed, getting up and dusted off the sand from her legs. She watched as Kirari and Sayaka walked towards the volleyball net which she was sure they were going to use for their game.

Ririka smiled mischievously at her to which Mary responded with the roll of her eyes. “Was it really necessary pairing me up with Kirari?”

“Of course it was,” Ririka nodded. “You said you wanted things to be fair. Had Kirari and I been on the same side, there would be an unfair advantage since the two of us are unstoppable at pretty much every sport. Had I paired us with each other’s significant other, all of us would be distracted. This pairing assures that Kirari won’t try to cheat because you’ll be there to catch it, though I’m not sure how she could cheat in badminton. Regardless, this will be a good way for the two of you to work on your team work skills and maybe help you bond with each other.”

It made sense at least, but the last thing she wanted was to be on the same team as Kirari Momobami. Hell, she would have rather been paired with Sayaka and accepted whatever loss they took if the twins dominated in the game. She couldn’t have cared less about victory or loss seeing as how she didn’t even want to play in the first place.

Being paired with Kirari complicated things. She knew how competitive Kirari was and she did not want to hear Kirari’s constant complaints and reminders of how shitty of a player Mary was if she didn’t put any effort into the game.

So Mary was trapped, and very much frustrated with the whole situation. All she could really do was sigh and grin and bear it for the time being. It was just one game after all. How bad could it be?

Mary severely underestimated just how competitive Kirari was and Ririka for that matter. Her girlfriend was right in saying that she and Kirari would have absolutely had an advantage had Mary been paired with Sayaka. In all honesty, it looked more like the twins were going against each other rather than all four of them.

Mary and Sayaka couldn’t keep up with how fast Ririka and Kirari were. Their speed and accuracy was almost inhuman; Mary and Sayaka more or less gave up and just watched the twins compete. It’s not like they were able to attempt to score anyway; Kirari and Ririka were always quick to beat them to it.

Because of the twins rarely missing a hit, the game stretched on far longer than Mary wanted. Both sides were tied and still needed several more points to win. Even Runa looked like she was growing bored, scrolling on her phone since she knew this game wasn’t going anywhere.

The only good thing about this was that Mary got to watch her lover sweat and see those beautiful muscles go to good work. She looked so beautiful, even like this. Her eyes had a fiery tint to them, glowing from her competitive spirit. It made Mary's core burn with desire.

Ririka was panting heavily by the time Runa called for a break so the twins could catch their breath. Mary and Sayaka were hardly breaking a sweat, not that they had a reason to anyway.

“Sayaka and I haven’t scored a single point, so I don’t understand why you didn’t just ask Ririka to play with you,” Mary commented.

Kirari panted, tying up her hair that had long since fallen out of its braids. “I’m beginning to regret not doing so. You haven’t been very helpful.”

“Because you won’t let me hit the feather thing!” Mary shouted in defense.

“It’s called a shuttlecock, heathen,” Kirari huffed. “And I know you’d likely intentionally miss and allow the other team to score so you can get this game over with.”

“Honestly at this point, yeah,” Mary confirmed. “I just wanna be done with this and spend the rest of the day with my girlfriend.”

“Well I refuse to lose in front of Sayaka,” Kirari muttered. “So you’re sorely mistaken if you believe I’ll concede to defeat so easily.”

Mary sighed. “If I make an effort to help you win, do you think the game will end sooner?”

“Perhaps, but if we lose even after you give your all, you know I won’t let you hear the end of it, don’t you?” Kirari smirked.

“I expect nothing less and I really don’t give a shit,” Mary grumbled.

“Oki! Let’s resume!” Runa shouted in a clearly faked cheerful tone. “But I’m changing things up. The team to score the next point wins!”

“Why the sudden change of rules, Runa?” Sayaka asked.

Runa sighed. “I’m tired of being the scorekeeper and I wanna go swimming, so let’s get this over with.”

That news was music to Mary’s ears. Now that it was just one point she had to worry about, her mood finally turned competitive. She wanted to end this. She wanted to win this not just to keep Kirari off her back, but to impress Ririka as well.

Everyone got into position. It was Ririka’s turn to serve and Mary didn’t keep her eyes off of her. Ririka glanced over at Mary, giving her a quick smile before serving. Kirari was quicker than Mary, hitting the shuttlecock back onto the other side. Mary rolled her eyes and watched as Sayaka hit it next, sending it towards her.

After sending it back and forth several times, things became rather intense as now all four participants kept their eyes glued on the shuttlecock flying through the air. Mary knew Sayaka was expecting her to always send it to Ririka, so she decided to catch the violet-eyed girl off guard.

Thwack. Sayaka and Ririka watched as the shuttlecock glided through the air. Mary watched as if it were in slow motion as Ririka ran to hit it and surprisingly didn’t miss. However, she crashed into Sayaka in the process, falling on top of her. It wouldn’t have been as bad had Ririka not accidentally placed her hands on Sayaka’s breasts, making the entire scenario all the more awkward. Both Mary and Kirari watched with wide eyes, completely ignoring the fact that the shuttlecock had already landed in their zone.

“O-oh my god, I’m so sorry, Sayaka!” Ririka squeaked and instantly lifted her hands, her face turning bright red from embarrassment.

“That’s… that’s…” Sayaka couldn’t even finish her sentence for she also was too embarrassed.

Mary snapped out of her gaze when she heard laughing next to her. She snapped her head towards Kirari who looked all too amused by this.

“Ara, ara, what I would give to be in my dear sister’s position right now,” Kirari grinned cheekily.

"Does that not make you even a little bit mad?" Mary hissed.

Kirari chuckled. "Of course not. I find this to be quite amusing."

"Of course you do," Mary growled.

“Ririka-chan’s team wins!” Runa announced, startling all of them. Apparently they had forgotten she was there. “Game over! Finally.”

“Good,” Mary grumbled, storming off away from them.

She heard somebody call out after her, but she paid no attention to it. What happened was a complete accident, she knew she shouldn’t have felt angry or jealous. The fact that it happened to Sayaka and not her was perhaps what made her the most upset. But she knew she had to let it go. It was a stupid thing to be upset over.

She plopped down onto her beach towel with a huff, glancing towards the crashing waves in the distance. She saw Midari’s arms wrapped around Yuriko’s waist as they allowed the water to rush past their knees. Mary wished that was her with Ririka right about now. Perhaps not in the water, but instead in the comfort and privacy of their hotel room.

“Are you alright? You looked really upset,” a familiar voice said from behind.

Mary slightly turned her head and her face softened upon seeing her girlfriend. “Yeah, I’m alright. I’m just tired.”

Ririka knelt down, her cerulean eyes full of concern. “Are you sure there’s nothing bothering you? You can talk to me, you know.”

‘Yes, the fact that I haven’t had a damn minute alone with you yet today and people left and right have been looking at you in a way only I should be,’ Mary wanted to say.

Mary shook her head. “Like I said, I’m tired. Don't worry about it. Do you still want to go swimming?”

“Of course!” Ririka grinned. “The badminton game really made me hot so I want to go cool off. Are you going to join me?”

“Maybe I’ll dip my toes in,” Mary smiled, hoping to lighten the mood. “But don’t push your luck.”

“Alright, I’ll see you there then,” Ririka said softly, kissing the top of Mary’s head.

Mary watched Ririka walk over to the shore before wading her way into the water. She chuckled when she saw her dive into a wave and move her platinum hair out of her face when she returned to the surface. She looked happy. Seeing that made Mary happy. Though her day hadn’t gone as planned in the slightest, she was at least relieved Ririka was having fun. She rarely got a break like this and genuinely had fun. School work and helping Kirari run their psychotic family was stressful enough on top of maintaining their position as top gamblers. Ririka deserved a chance to breathe and be herself for once.

Mary got up and rolled up her pant legs before walking over to the shore. She noticed that Ririka had swam much deeper into the water, but wasn’t too concerned. She shivered slightly when the cold water touched her feet, but it was refreshing nonetheless. It was hot anyway, so it felt nice.

She stood there for a moment enjoying the breeze and the shifting sand beneath her toes, finally feeling calm. That is until she saw a lifeguard run past her and into the water. She was swimming closer and closer to where Ririka was which caused Mary to panic.

All she could do was anxiously wait and watch as the lifeguard tugged Ririka parallel to where they were until they reached the shore. Mary sprinted to them, still in a panicked state of mind. Ririka held onto the lifeguard’s arm, her face red either from exhaustion or embarrassment… or because the lifeguard was very attractive.

“I-is she okay? Is she hurt? What happened?” The blonde asked frantically.

The lifeguard gave a friendly smile. “Your friend got caught in a rip tide, but she’s alright now.”

“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t know,” Ririka stuttered in embarrassment.

“Don’t worry about it,” the lifeguard assured her. “Just be careful swimming in this area of the beach. Alright, beautiful?”

That was it. That was the comment that made Mary nearly lose it. It was too much. With all that had already happened, the flirting from the clerk earlier, the looks from people on the street, Ririka falling on Sayaka, and now the attractive lifeguard flirting with Ririka, Mary's jealousy had finally gotten to a point where she was about to snap if she didn't get so much as a minute alone with her girlfriend.

“Thanks for saving my girlfriend, ” Mary said in the nicest tone she could, emphasizing on the word 'girlfriend.'

“Just doing my job,” the lifeguard nodded. “You two have a good day now!”

Mary crossed her arms, trying her hardest to not let her inner emotions show.

“Mary?” Ririka asked with caution. “You okay?”

Mary huffed, looking up at her. “Yes. I’m perfectly fine.”

“Wait a minute. Are you jealous?” Ririka smirked.

Mary’s face turned bright red. “No! I just...yes. A little.”

Ririka knew that was an understatement. She took a step closer to her lover, looking down at her. Mary was pouting and refusing to look at her now. Ririka placed a hand on Mary’s cheek, turning her face to look at her.

“You know I only have eyes for you,” the platinum haired girl whispered seductively.

“I-I know that! I’m not doubting your loyalty or anything! I just don’t like people looking at you the way I do,” Mary admitted, placing her hand over Ririka’s lovingly.

Ririka chuckled. "There's so much irony in this situation."

Mary raised a confused brow. "Huh?"

"You think I don't get jealous whenever someone looks at you with lust in their eyes? There are girls and boys in school including in our friend group who I know would give anything to be in a room alone with you," Ririka explained.

Mary was all too aware of her popularity at Hyakkaou. Heck, every Valentine's Day she received love letters from people she'd never even met. Being a top gambler had its perks, but Mary didn't necessarily consider that to be one. Especially now that she was no longer single and had to reject people instead of just brush them aside.

"Our friend group? Who?" Mary asked with a bewildered expression.

"Ryota," Ririka said softly.

"Okay, Suzui doesn't count. He gets flustered around everyone. Remember how much he blushed when he saw you without your mask for the first time? He's just a bundle of awkwardness," Mary explained with a scoff. "Who else?"

Ririka hesitated. "Yumeko."

Oh. Now that Mary could understand. Yumeko was a touchy person by nature, but she was different around Mary. Perhaps it was because she had feelings for her or maybe it was because she was close to Mary. Whatever the reason, Mary could see why Ririka could be jealous of her.

Mary rubbed her neck awkwardly. "Yeah, okay. I can see that. I've never had feelings for Yumeko though."

"Really?" Ririka asked with wide eyes.

"I care about her and all, but she has a hard time with boundaries. You always respect my boundaries and care about how I feel. Even today, you checked in on me when you felt like something was wrong," Mary blushed.

"And something was," Ririka nodded. "Communicating is important, my love. Without talking to me about these things, our relationship wouldn't be solid. We agreed from the start to be honest with each other about everything, right?"

Mary smiled fondly. "Right."

"So be honest with me now. You haven't gotten what you've wanted all day," Ririka sighed, placing her hands on Mary's hips. "What would you like to do now? What do you want?"

Mary licked her lips and breathed out. "You."  

"I'm all yours," Ririka whispered.

Ririka's eyes sparkled with desire. Her eyes fluttered shut as she pulled Mary close, pressing their two lips together. Mary smiled into the kiss and the world around them fell away. All they could hear was the crashing waves behind them. It was a moment, a single blissful moment that felt like a lifetime. Kissing Ririka always had that affect, like she was the only other person in the world.

The two broke free for air and pressed their foreheads together.

"I want more," Mary panted. "Somewhere alone with you. Do you think we can go to the hotel?"

"Hm, perhaps. Though the rental car is closer, don't you agree?" Ririka smirked.

The heat between Mary's legs grew more prominent now and had this been any other time, she would have obliged. But she wanted absolute privacy with no risks of being intruded.

Mary shook her head. "No, I want to be alone in a room with you. I need you, Riri."

Ririka grinned, briefly kissing Mary's lips once more before holding her hand, gently tugging her to walk away with her.

"Then what are we waiting for?"

Rantaro Amami - I shouldn’t have to be the first person to point out to you that he’s hot. Not to mention that the pink bottoms work wonders with his hair.

Byakuya Togami - I will admit, I’m basing this position more off of his appearance in the promo art. I don’t know how much I like this look on his regular sprite, but he’s so hot in that promo art, you don’t even know.

Korekiyo Shinguji - When the trailer first dropped and I saw the screen with all of the released swimsuits, I immediately started scanning to see if they put Korekiyo in a wetsuit and by God, they did.

Shuichi Saihara - He looks more tired than usual, but I just have a gut feeling his other sprites will look better.

Mondo Owada - I probably should’ve put him in standard, but he looks so good without a shirt on, I couldn’t possibly.

Kaito Momota - Space shorts.

Sakura Ogami - She was actually going to be somewhere in the first tier originally, but I just can’t put her there because of the color. I probably should’ve put her down with the other people with this problem (Uhhh... okay... I guess) but I couldn’t bear to.

Cute!/Cool! -

Chihiro Fujisaki - a;lskdfh;adskfijshdkjc He’s so cute, someone help. I’m drowning in cute. He looks so excited to be wearing it, too. I think this was the best choice they could’ve gone with to not give him something too masculine or feminine, fantastic choice.

Leon Kuwata - This category was originally just going to be “Cute!” but his bottoms looked so cool, I had to put him up here.

Toko Fukawa - Not only does her swimsuit look good on her, but I love the way that they designed her and Genocide Jack to be wearing the same swimsuit in different styles. Super cool.

Tenko Chabashira - I think this was one of the only palette swaps that I actually liked. There are probably a few other swaps that I didn’t even notice, but I like this one specifically because of the color swap. She looks great in pink.

Kyoko Kirigiri - I think I would’ve normally put her in standard, but her gloves are just too cool.

Mukuro Ikusaba - Love the colors and love the pattern. Simple, yet great.

Mahiru Koizumi - Mahiru, your camera. You can’t take that in the water. Mahiru- MAHIRU

Akane Owari - This is actually the swimsuit she wore during chapter 2 in the original game and I thought she looked great both times.

Chiaki Nanami - Same as Akane, so there’s not really any reason for either one to be higher or lower than the other. Peko would be up here too, but it’s really basic.

Gonta Gokuhara - I just really like the pattern and also that he’s still carrying the thing over his shoulder. It’s really weird who got to keep accessories and who didn’t, but we’ll get there.

Masaru Daimon - He just looks so cool in his shorts, I’m sure he’s excited to have them.

Shirokuma - Despite how I may feel about Shirokuma, this is a very cute outfit for them.

Standard -

Kaede Akamatsu - Definitely the best-looking of the protagonists, even if Shuichi’s higher. He’s only higher because I have faith that his faults are because of the sprite choice. If I’m wrong, sue me.

Kirumi Tojo - This is another instance of getting to keep the accessories. She still has her headband on. Why?? It wasn’t crucial to her character or anything. I get that Kyoko has backstory reasons and Gonta and Mahiru’s personalities revolve around their items, but why Kirumi? She had other things that defined her better.

Peko Pekoyama - Like I said before, basic and kinda bland. She still looks good, though.

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu - He actually gained an accessory. Why does he have a necklace now? His shorts are nice, though.

Hajime Hinata - O r a n g. Or maybe red.

Maki Harukawa - Basic swimsuit, no color change whatsoever. A nice swimsuit, but nothing special.

Genocide Jack - Everything I said before about Toko’s swimsuit still applies, Genocide Jack’s is just way more boring.

Aoi Asahina - A good color swap, but not good enough to make up for her basic swimsuit.

Monomi - I like that they put her in a one-piece. Very cute. Wish they would do that all the time...

Monaca Towa - I just noticed that she is the only character other than Monomi to wear a one-piece. Why??

Makoto Naegi - The most basic swimsuit imaginable combined with his regular color scheme and pattern.

Hiroko Hagakure - I think I like that she kept her jacket? Maybe? It’s a different jacket, but it still counts.

Nagisa Shingetsu - Black and white bottoms. Okay. You do you, buddy.

Imposter - It’s fine. It’s just fine.

Izuru - I like that they gave him a separate swimsuit from Hajime, but why is it so bland and boring?

I love you, so I’ll forgive it -

Sonia Nevermind - She actually looks great and is so cute. So cute that she’d be in the top tier if not for one crucial fact. If you’ll notice, I mentioned earlier that Peko, Chiaki, and Akane are all wearing the same swimsuit here that they had worn in the original second game. However, there’s another character that appears in the scene I’m talking about that is wearing a different outfit than they are here. That charcter is Sonia, who was seen in a wetsuit in the original game. It was thrown off as a joke, but I still can’t stop thinking about how pretty she looked in that wetsuit. It’s literally my profile picture for my main blog, that’s how pretty she is wearing it. I’m mad because they’re basically agreeing that she didn’t look pretty/sexy in the wetsuit when that couldn’t be more wrong.

Celestia Ludenberg - I literally just wish she was wearing a one-piece, it can be the same style and everything. Honestly a missed opportunity.

Kotoko Utsugi - It’s just a weird pattern. Love the colors, though.

K1-B0 - I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love the floaty, but he still deserves more respect.

Miu Iruma - The pattern is... fitting... but still bad.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru - Taka... sweetie... why...?

Uhhh... okay... I guess -

Angie Yonaga - I like the look, but it’s exactly what she usually wears just without the jacket. Does that mean that she’s always wearing a swimsuit? Why? Even Asahina didn’t wear a swimsuit as her regular outfit.

Kazuichi Soda - I definitely like this color better than the piss yellow he used to have, but it’s still not great. I like that he got to keep his little logo thing, but I’m confused as to why he gets to keep his hat. It’s just like Kirumi keeping her headpiece. I’m fine with it in this case, but why him and not...? Well, we’ll get there.

Komaru Naegi - A lot of the outfits in this tier are just because I like the look and not the color scheme, including Komaru. Yellow’s just an odd fit for the shade of green that her hair is.

Tsumugi Shirogane - The same as Komaru. Nice style, but the yellow and blue clash for me.

Hiyoko Saionji - Surprise surprise, it’s the same thing. I think the style really fits her, but I hate the yellow and green. Not into it.

Junko Enoshima - Ok, we’re out of the color scheme repetition. I don’t know why she’s wearing a tanktop. It just looks a little off, but I can’t place why. I don’t know why she isn’t just wearing the regular swimsuit like she was in the promo art. If she was, I’d probably put her in Standard.

Yasuhiro Hagakure - I’ll be honest, I didn’t notice the alien pattern on his shorts until after I had already downloaded the picture and closed out of the tier list tab. If I had noticed before, I’d probably put him in Cute!/Cool! but I still don’t really like the color scheme. Fitting, but not pleasing.

Kurokuma - The only reason he’s above Kokichi is because he has a water gun and I think that’s cute.

Kokichi Oma - Literally just gut instinct. I like that he kept his checkered pattern and purple color scheme. Something just told me he should be down here.

Monokuma - It just feels wrong, but I can’t place why, same as Kokichi.

Teruteru Hanamura - I probably would’ve liked his outfit better if his shirt was buttoned up at least a little bit. Now that I think about it, Mondo should’ve had one of these, too.

Nekomaru Nidai - I can absolutely see him picking this swimsuit to wear, but that doesn’t mean I like it.

Ryoma Hoshi - So Mahiru gets to keep her camera, Kirumi gets to keep her headpiece, and Kazuichi gets to keep his hat.. but Ryoma doesn’t get anything? I genuinely had to take a second to figure out who this was the first time I saw him. He can’t even have a sunhat or anything? That would’ve been cute.

Himiko Yumeno - I can’t imagine a world in which she would choose this swimsuit for herself. The color is off, the style is off, I could much more easily see her wearing something similar to Monaca’s swimsuit. Basically, just let some of the girls wear one-pieces. They don’t all have to be in bikinis.

Jataro Kemuri - The pattern. I can’t even stand to look at it long enough to figure out what it is.

Hifumi Yamada - It did take me a second to figure out what his swimsuit was, but as soon as I did, he hit the bottom of the list. Again, it’s definitely fitting, but I still hate it.

Can you do an analysis of Yumeko's character?

I can try, though as always keep in mind that I’m more of a creator than an analyst and I don’t believe my comprehension of these characters to be above anybody else's.

For the longest time Yumeko was and still is one of the most enigmatic characters I’ve ever seen. We know nothing about her past and now that with the latest chapters her role in the story seems to be changing, the only thing we are sure about is her addiction now.

Yumeko, as the series name clearly states, is a gambling addict. Now, in a word being an addict means that a compulsive behavior takes over one's whole life. We can oversimplify it in two statements: 1) I can’t stop doing this 2) No one can stop me unless I truly want them to.

In a setting like Hyakkaou’s this is twice as dangerous. Not for Yumeko herself — Sayaka’s background check tells us she’s quite loaded in terms of money — but for the people around her. There's a pretty obvious duality to Yumeko's character: on one hand, we have the sweet, childish, almost naive Yumeko, who’s able to befriend even her worst opponents; on the other we have a “plague” who’s unable to keep herself under control and who would do anything to get what she wants, ruining whoever is in her path.

The contrast is interesting to see in scenes like the one in which she offers her tissue to Sayaka because she was crying, knowing that she hates her with all her guts vs the way she completely lost her facade when Yumemite refused to play seriously against Sumika, or when she pressured Itsuki into gambling her Life-Plan. This is simply another consequence of her addiction. Try to politely tell a smoker to quit smoking, see how they react. Amberlynn Reid, a youtuber who’s become a lol-cow during her failed weight-loss journey, suffers from BED (binge eating disorder) and when she can't keep her impulses in check, she calls that part of herself “the binge eating monster”, stating that it pushes her as far as to abuse her own partner if she doesn’t get to eat what and when she wants to.

Here’s the thing though: addicts usually want to stop. Most importantly when their behavior starts to take its toll on them. Although they’re often forced to ignore them, they do have feelings of shame and regret when they end up to do things that average people wouldn’t do (i.e. stealing to have more money for their dose). They know that what they’re doing is bad. They have constant reminders of it. Just like Amberlynn has the hate comments and smokers have the warnings on the packages, Yumeko finds her reminders in her own sister, who ended up in a mental institution precisely because of gambling, and in everyone at Hyakkaou, the main example being Sayaka (I speak about this a bit more here).

And yet, here’s the odd thing: Yumeko never really showed the desire to stop nor a hint of true remorse for anything she’s done. People are calling Kirari a sociopath and a narcissist only because she doesn’t show herself as the usual cute anime girl. Yumeko isn’t that better than her in these terms.

The whole premise of the KKG movie revolves around Suzui trying to convince Yumeko to join the Village, where gambling and money are banned, only for the latter to say, “No thanks. I have only two desires: better desserts at the cafeteria and watching Murasame gamble.” (Full on expression of her duality once again).

Because of gambling, her moral compass is sort of all over the place. She never wanted to liberate the House-Pets destroying the system, that’s Tsubomi who got the wrong idea. Yumeko was an anti-hero for a while, but only out of pure coincidence. Simply, her goal of taking the Student Council coincided with the wishes of whoever wanted to see the SC fall.

Clearly, this could be because Yumeko came at Hyakkaou with a specific goal in mind. At the Academy gambling is often your only mean of survival and it would be foolish to give it up. As Murasame says, “Kirari’s a monster and only another monster can defeat her, hurting everyone else in the same manner.”

That does fit Yumeko’s character, doesn’t it?

So why does Yumeko give up gambling altogether when Kirari refuses to play with her and calls her an ‘impurity’? It would make sense if she came here specifically to defeat Kirari. If she was certain that Ririka would win, that would prevent her from obtaining what she wants, throwing out of the window everything she’s done so far. This is the only possibility I can think of for now, so the next chapters will hopefully clear that up.

Now, Yumeko said that she won’t gamble, but if she’s truly an addict, no matter how stubborn and displeased she gets, she won’d be able to stop just like that. The addiction will either take over or find another mean to express itself, just like sometimes smokers turn to food when they try to quit and how people with BED can end up becoming addicted to shopping, resulting in hoarding behaviors. It’s all about that kick of dopamine.

Rest assured though, that as long as her addiction remains, Yumeko will never fully be able to be one of the good guys. Not like this, and not in a world in which adults can’t plan a fucking intervention. It makes sense for her to be holding the Election under her heel now and going on it could only get worse, with Yumeko hindering her own allies — if she ever had any.

Which brings us to a final point: the way Yumeko builds her relationships and why.

Her first connection at Hyakkaou is Suzui, who’s in so much debt that he’s considering dropping out. He’s a naive guy, too good for his own good. He’s easy to mold in Yumeko’s hands and that’s eaxctly what she does in more than a gamble (ESP, Zero Nym-Type). Is this also because of the “monster” inside of her, preying on the weak to take as much as it can? I don’t believe their friendship is completely “pure”, though I also don’t think Yumeko is harmful by nature. She might not even be fully conscious of this.

We have Saotome, who believed herself so sleek and ended up as a House Pet. Why would Yumeko befriend someone who tried to ruin her on her very first day? Did she see a powerful ally and a perfect opponent in order to seek the thrill of the risk, or is she really just that naive? Yumeko isn’t stupid. Intelligence also comes through emotional values. Again, I don’t believe her connection with Mary is devoid of secondary reasons, though just like in Suzui’s case, the latter come into play only when they hinder Yumeko’s gambling.

Tsubomi and Itsuki were practically shouldered and then used with the promise of obtaining something better for themselves. Sayaka? She called Yumeko a “plague” and yet Yumeko never really resented her. Sure she almost caused her death, but that was a collateral matter. Yumeko harbors no ill intent towards her, notwithstanding Sayaka’s hatred. Yumeko doesn’t show hate for Kiwatari either, and yet he never acted right around her.

Midari, on the other hand, deserved her indifference and dislike because she messed up their gamble and there’s nothing that Yumeko dislikes as much as a set result in her games. The two cases of Midari and Sayaka/Kiwatari are perfect to show the contrast between the kind of person Yumeko would be without her addiction and the kind of person she is now that her life is ruled by gambling.

What about Kirari then? In terms of risks, Kirari too showed a similar appetite. Perhaps Yumeko herself would like to see her own addiction consume her, just like she thinks Kirari would — thought I’m starting to believe the supernova talk was more about the clan than about herself. Maybe, just like Kirari with Ririka, Yumeko wants to fight the part of Kirari that resembles her the most and Kirari’s refusal proved that she had been very wrong in judging her character. Apparently Kirari “killed” her sister, but that’s Terano’s word, Yumeko never expresses herself on the matter.

In all these examples, the main thread is still the same. The gambling addiction has always been Yumeko’s core in the series and as of today it would be impossible to consider Yumeko’s character whole without it. People tend to forget its extent.

I do hope flashbacks and such will let us see how Yumeko was before she became a kakegurui, because in the end, addictions are only a part of who we are — unless we let them consume us.

Sayaka gets like a lighter violet background with gold and white stars smattered around them, more concentrated in some areas than others, and it’s generally very pretty 🥺

chihiro’s are a different solid pastel color on each finger!!! it’s very kidcore and fun and they love it so muchhhh!!!

leon gets a little self-conscious when it’s his turn because his nails are highkey disgusting from all the time he spends playing baseball - there’s dirt trapped under them and everything so he’s just like hhhhhhh anxiety go brrrr but anyway he gets solid black because he’s edgy and cool like that 😎

I think Taka gets a French manicure with little dark red flowers pressed towards the tips because!!! simple yet pretty!!!

Celeste probably takes the longest because her request is sooooo complicated like it’s black and red and long ass acrylics with overlapping patterns and everyone else just kinda sits there feeling h o r r i b l e for that poor nail stylist

Toko gets a checkerboard pattern, with each nail having a different neon color in place of white!!! Because she knows that Jill will find it cool and pretty and colorful the next time she fronts (visual stimming jill?? 👀)

Togami just picks whatever will get him out of the chair quickest hdbsvdvdvdbdbdb

anyway Makoto????? rainbow loom????? absolutely

he has so many bracelets!!!!! so many so many so many and he knows how to create such a wide variety of styles it’s so cool!!!!!! he wears a bunch of them at any given time because they are so fun to fidget with!!!! and rubber texture hvvvvhvv!!!!

and he creates personalized ones for his friends, too, like he knows their favorite colors and sometimes picks up on whether they prefer a certain style or not from the way they react to the other ones he’s made and it’s!!! just so neat!!!!!

I’m thinking about it and!!! he has a bi pride fishtail, a trans pride arrow stitch, a black and neon green railroad, a pastel pink/blue/purple/yellow ladder, a jelly yellow and green dragon scale, a rainbow double cross, and a bunch more!!! he also has a bunch with charms and beads added into them!!!!

He also makes them for his friends even if he knows they won’t wear them!! Like Toko, for example, isn’t the biggest fan of jewelry because she doesn’t like the texture, but he creates one for her anyway and fills it with so much love (it looks like a daisy chain!!!! because at least she’ll be able to look at it and hold it and still be interested in it without it needing to be on her wrist!!!)

he makes a ton of bright colored ones for Mukuro (usually either single or inverted fishtail because he knows she wouldn’t enjoy wearing anything too heavy or overbearing) so that she has more mobile visual stims!!!

similar for Jill!! although most of hers tend to be black and bright neon rainbow in various bulkier styles!!!! Jill will also force him to let her look at his bracelet-covered arm whenever they hang out because. my god,,,,,,so many Colors™️

he’s found that togami prefers black and white simpler styles, and that Kyoko absolutely adores singles, fishtails, and double fishtails in any shade of purple, and that Mondo likes any of the larger styles in darker colors + blacks and grays!!! Chihiro loves anything with jelly and glitter bands!!!

Leon usually only wears one at a time, but he cycles through every single one that his boyfriend’s ever made for him because????? GOD they’re so cool and his boyfriend is so crafty and incredible and just,,,,,,,,,hvvvhvv every time he looks at the one he’s wearing he’s able to calm himself down and remember that Makoto loves him........it’s also very good for stim and fidgeting <3

More Danganronpa Headcanons!

Why? Because I can! And I have to wait for a Commissioner to get back to me about a WIP I just sent!

I Think I’m gunna try my hands at making some Headcanons for Mondo, Ishimaru, Leon, Kazuichi, and Kiibo this time a round! Just cause I wanna try and explore new characters. (And totally not because I fell hard for a certain Robo Boi! WHAAAAAAAT! YOU CRAZY GURL!) I’m still loyal to my man Yasuhiro! But I gotta spred the love! Cause these boi’s need it! Also, wanna mention that these are more like...Non-Killing Game AU Headcanaons. So yeah! ^^ 

Let’s do this!

Mondo:

Is a Semi decent carpenter, but there was that one time he fucked up the legs on a chair, and now one of Asahina’s shorts has a rip in it where there was a stray nail sticking out.

She wont let him live that down. And neither will Sakura.

Get’s pretty embarrassed/pissed off if someone touches his neck! The dude’s jacket practically covers that entire part of his body, so he’s not used to feeling anything touch him there!

He once let out a girlish scream when Leon poked him there once to wake him up during class! The rest of them are surprised Leon wasn’t killed right then and there.

Once he participated in a little competition between the classes to see who was the arm wrestling champ. He got pretty far till he had to go up against Gonta. He lost by a landslide, but he felt better loosing to a dude like him at least. 

Totally escorts any female classmate or student home on his bike if they ask, or he sees some creep hanging around them. 

He does get embarrassed about it though, and ends up yelling at them. This results in one of three things.

The girl runs away!

The girl just politely declines, and walks away kinda creeped out!

Or a mix of all, with the addition of the dude sees this, and get’s spooked himself, and fucks off

Ishimaru:

Has a bit of a panic attack and dies inside if he sees someone leaving the men’s restroom without washing their hands!

Carries scented hand sanitizers with him! At all times! No matter what! And must offer some to every single one of his classmates! 

Once he tripped in the halls while chasing after another rule breaker, and had to be carried to the nurse’s office. Now that alone wouldn’t have been a bad thing, except Sakura was the one who did it, and she carried him bridle style, much to his dismay. 

Mondo and Leon teased him about that one for months.

During Christmas, he’ll start screeching about PDA anytime he sees a Mistletoe, or people under it who are about to kiss! 

But will ultimately be the first one forced to stand underneath it by is classmates.

Stays behind after school hours to either clean, or poke his head into every class room to see if the teachers need help with anything.

He’s totally that guy who during the Gym Class or Sports festival, is bitching about how short the girls shorts are, but not realize he’s staring. There by making HIM the creep! 

Leon of all people was the one to point this out to him, only adding to the shame.

Leon:

It’s not hard for him to start catching feelings for basically any girl meets.

Totally has an Instagram where he posts shirtless pics! He’s pretty popular thanks to that, and his Baseball Skills.

Purposely taught himself English so he could flirt with some of the American and British chicks who visit his profile and leave comments.

He’s pretty used to going from girl to girl, so it’s safe to assume he’s used to getting dunked on by the girls he’s dumped. Getting called a pig, dirty looks, even some of them going so far as to pour their drinks on them at lunch. This he can handle!

Wanted so badly to start a band with Sayaka, Ibuki, Kaede, and Kazuichi! (Probably due to the punk look Soda always puts on!) But he was promptly let down by all of them! Cause Ibuki had her own shit to deal with, Kazuichi because he had no experience with music (at least any good ones, Stay tuned for that! ;3), Sayaka cause she’s already part of a group, and Kaede because punk wasn’t exactly her thing.

But what really stresses him out is when one of his Exes just.....doesn’t really seem to care! It feels so outta place to him, and it actually makes him pretty paranoid. Wondering if their plotting for revenge or some shit! So he’ll spend days after breaking up with a girl like this, just kinda....being a little bitch! XD

Secretly, I’m pretty sure they all turned him down because they thought he was coming on to them to a degree. 

Kazuichi:

Is a lot like Yasuhiro, he doesn’t like birds, but not because he thinks they work for the government. It’s because he doesn’t like most animals, they remind him of Gundham.

Miu makes him HIGHLY uncomfortable! Sure, she’s hot and stuff, but she’s a whole other level of fuckery that he wants no part of! She’s banned from entering his workshop, and so Kiibo is usually the one who comes in to grab something if Miu needs it. He completely get’s Kazuichi feeling put off by Miu.

However, Kazuichi is still pretty insistent on asking Kiibo if he can take him apart every time he comes to get something for Miu. Making the poor robot very uncomfortable!

He’s pretty jealous that Miu get’s to play with the Robot and he doesn’t. Get’s kinda salty about it.

Teruteru once gave him the idea that he should try to serenade Sonia. And so he did! Or at least he tried to. He got over the fence to the girls dorms, ripping his clothes in the prosses. Then when he got to the window (he thought was) of Sonia’s room, he threw a rock that was a bit too big at it, cracking the window and scaring the girl in the room! Waking up the whole dorms and he booked it out of there! 

He attempted this one more time, and was better prepared. But Sonia opened her window to see a Kazuichi dressed in a Ghillie Suit and wearing an army helmet holding a guitar! When he started to sing and play, it was now obvious why Ibuki refuses to let him sing along with any of her music! 

A girl from a neighboring room called the campus security to repot a strange dude outside the Girls dorms, while another one poked her head out of her window and began to throw things at him. 

He left soon after, but was caught by security and reprimanded. Now he refuses to listen to Teruteru has to say about anything.  

Kiibo:

Often get’s bossed around by Mui to get her things. He finds it rather degrading, but when she’s not being bossy, she’s helpful to him. So he puts up with it, as a way of saying thanks. 

One of these tasks he’s asked to do a lot is going over to Kazuichi’s Workshop to barrow tools and such. He hates doing it though, since Kazuichi is always wanting to take him apart. So he does his best to make these visits quick!

Miu gave him the ability to remove some of his heavy armor so he can wear clothing like normal. Surprisingly, This was his idea! He wanted to be able to enjoy the comforts of soft fabrics like most humans. And it would help him blend in a bit better.

Gonta and him get along very well! Mainly due to both of them having a hard time understanding things like sarcasm, harsher jokes, and certain social cues. This usually leads to them both learning at the same time when they hang out!

Miu is his wingman, weather he knows it or not! She’s always wanting to add new functions to him to make him more appealing. One of these is a thin velvet like coating on his armor that’s meant to make his metal less harsh on the skin if you touch him.

Another one of these features is a type of diffuser at the top of his skull under his hair! It releases a pleasant scent into his hair, similar to pheromones. The scent changes based on Kiibo’s emotions. 

Kokichi likes to openly mock Kiibo in front of new people. Like a lot!

Kiibo actually releases steam when he get’s too Angry or Embarrassed, but this is really rare. 

Get’s really curious about Occult, Paranormal, or Religious things. Sure, he finds some of it to be very silly, but he can’t help but wonder why some humans like those things! 

Some holiday traditions he finds weird too, and in some cases, a bit Robophobic. Like giving candy or sweets out on Valentines Day, when....well, he can’t fucking eat it! So he feels excluded in times like that.

He’s really confused about most PDA! Especially kissing! So humans just like...put their mouths together? And that’s like....supposed to mean deep affection? What’s so great about swapping fluids like that? Couldn’t they get sick? QUESTIONS! ANSWERS! HE MUST HAVE THEM!

His Ahoge doesn’t just change shape and move to show emotion, but it also tends to point in the direction that he’s attention is drawn too. Even when he’s trying to pretend he’s not looking at something! His hair is a dead give away!

Has a built in “Cellphone” in his head. Miu added it so it would be easier to contact him if needed. 

Everyone in his class has his number, except Kokichi! And it will stay that way!

.......Until Gonta gave it to him by being tricked into doing it!

And now he has a small panic attack every time his “Cellphone” rings. Praying to all that is good that he doesn’t hear “HEY KIIBOOOOOOOY!~<3″ on the other end!
