What made you change your name from Eddie Fender to Raymond Shields? ...was a pun-name just not your forte?

“Okay, story time.”

“The day I turned 18, I marched my butt down to the nearest law office with good reviews in both criminal cases and personal affairs. Which happened to be Edgeworth & Co. Law Offices. I told the man there about wanting to change my name, and how I’d do basically anything to get it done.

Edgeworth agreed to help me change my name, but being a logical man, knew a kid still in high school with a part-time job couldn’t pay the usual fee. He mentioned how as of late he’d been swamped with cases and paperwork and having some assistance could help. We worked out a deal: He’d pay me a bit less than he would usually pay employees, and the money missing would go to paying off my debt to him. After a few weeks I found a passion for law, and our business arrangement became more of an internship or apprenticeship.”

“Now, why change my name in the first place, especially so young?”

“It’ll come out eventually, so I’ll come clean.”

“I was the result of what happens when a 13-year-old girl and her 3-days-away-from-18 ‘boyfriend’ decide to get frisky in his car without protection. And by decide, I mean him using manipulative tactics and grooming to pressure her into it.

My mother’s parents were extremely religious, and made them get hitched the moment that test showed positive. My mom wanted an abortion, but her parents wouldn’t let their 13-year-old choose to not severally damage her own body. Let her choose, you dipsticks.

So my 14-year-old mother spent 35 hours laboring without any medical assistance for the pain, then had to drop out of school to watch me full-time while her shitty husband worked sleazy jobs to try and make ends meet.

Let’s just say that having a physically and verbally abusive alcoholic for a guardian and a girl who was hardly an adult herself trying to figure out how to manage raising her son and daughter did not make for the best childhood, nor was it a recipe to have your son pass on your name.”

“In short, my name is Raymond Eddie Shields. Do not address me as ‘Fender’.”

Louis Moe (April 20, 1857 - 1945) was born in Norway, but settled in Copenhagen after training there at the Royal Academy. He was a prolific illustrator of fairy tales, children's books and Norse chronicles.

this is an experience probably only specific to me but on multiple occassions i've edited a subtitle file that was pretty clearly transcribed and theres a line (usually a name or place) that doesn't seem like it matches what the character is saying (or the subtitler left a ??? in place of the word) and then i use my extreme smartguy resarch skills/context analysis and i manage to find out EXACTLY what the character said oh my godddddd i feel like him⬇️
