Man, I hate doing taxes.

For a long time I used Turbo Tax. It never failed me. Then, for some reason, I switched to H&R Block. That one also worked well.

Eventually some financial things changed and got more complicated. So for the last five or so years Sheila and I have been using an accountant to do the taxes. I feel it's been worth the cost.

Yesterday we had our appointment. The accountant noted that we had fewer tax forms this year than last year. Good grief! I had overlooked some things (which is why I've been wanting to consolidate a number of investment accounts). Luckily, this morning I found online what I should have had yesterday and emailed it to the accountant.

We're not yet done. Sheila had a certain tax form that mislabeled something as "income" instead of a "refund." She has to work with the issuer to correct that.

Long ago we had an error on a return we submitted. Months later the IRS sent us a letter outlining the mistake. They included an already-completed tax form we could sign and mail back with a check for a few hundred dollars (which was just taxes--they did not assess a penalty).

When I think of how easy that correction was I contemplate doing a return myself, with merely a half-assed attempt at getting it right, then letting the IRS computer tell me what was wrong.

However, that method wouldn't have caught the problem we had this time with the mislabeled refund. And the IRS would likely get sick of my shit and begin adding some penalties.

I guess I'll never be happy about the process.

literally one of the most beautiful and quietly subversive things about ofmd is that everyone, consistently, is saved from doing terrible things by the presence and intervention of others. again and again and again, stede tells the crew not to kill the hostage, olu talks jim out of killing geraldo, ed stops olu throwing izzy overboard, stede wakes up and saves mary from killing him. even and especially when it's accidental (waking up, showing up at the right time), the presence of other people is what makes these characters, who are to a person all shown to be capable of murder and are often not 'good' people by mainstream comedy media standards, better. and it's established right in the first episode wrapped in a joke! stede says traditionally piracy has been a CULTURE of abuse, and dares to question why. no man is an island in ofmd. it's a profoundly communal show where people exist only in relation to each other in a world obsessed with the toxic masculinity of the lonesome macho outlaw. this is also why it is so devastating to see ed transform into blackbeard, because the person who could step in and stop him isn't there.

hi! i don’t mind at all! honestly, if i ignore the whole messy fandom side of it, i don’t feel any different about bucktommy that most of buck’s past relationships. their relationship is not special, and definitely does not have the potential to be endgame. he’s been buck’s li since 7x04 and the relationship still hasn’t developed past two people getting to know each other. their conversations/interactions are brief and there’s barely any emotional connection. the only reason tommy is important to buck’s story is because he’s his first bf. otherwise, the relationship does not look any different from buck’s past relationships.

It really is lol. I love data and stats, even when they are trash. In fact, sometimes more when they're trash. The way questions are worded and data is collected is fascinating to me. They're like a big Rorschach ink blot made out of words. 'This one looks like an Eldest Daughter.' 'This next one looks like, no wait, is that Sam stealing Dean's Lucky Charms??'

I'm gonna drive myself crazy today though because i had a really good previous poll from someone else on here with similar but more comprehensive questions, and now I can't find it on this useless search site. Me and the poll-maker became mutuals specifically because I wanted to remember to check their poll later when it completed, but my memory is so useless that now I have no idea who they are or if we're mutuals anymore or if they soft-blocked me or moved on from this hell fandom or what.

Here, Dean girls are slightly more likely to be oldest children than all other choices combined so far, but Sam girls are slightly more likely to be... from somewhere in the undifferentiated mass of Not Oldest. Which means Sam girls are more likely to be oldest children too. I feel like I should look up the baseline of how many humans in general are in which birth order slot or there's no way to draw even, well, anything from any of these tbh, since "normal humans who don't get obsessed with spn and spend all their time on tumblr dot hell" are the actual control group, insofar as there is one.
