1961 Moto Parilla 100cc Olimpia Signor Giovanni Parrilla owned a shop on the outskirts of Milan specializing in the repair of diesel injector pumps and he also held an agency for Bosch sparking plugs before turning to the motorcycle industry in 1946. The first Moto Parilla (dropping an ‘r’) was a 250cc overhead-camshaft single-cylinder racer, designed by Ing. Giuseppe Salmaggi, of Gilera Saturno fame. Giovanni Parrilla was a big Norton fan so the 250-racer’s engine employed a bevel-driven overhead-camshaft just like the British manufacturer’s Manx. There the similarity ended however, for the Parilla was a thoroughly modern design boasting unitary construction of the engine/transmission and geared primary drive. The new power unit went into a welded loop-type chassis featuring a single down-tube, girder front fork and plunger rear suspension. Ridden on its debut by Nino Grieco on 1st October 1946, the Parilla could claim to be Italy’s first new racing motorcycle since the War’s end. Production of road and race (corsa) models began in 1947.

In 1957, Parilla embarked on a new venture, introducing a range of lightweight motorcycles powered by outwardly similar two-stroke and four-stroke horizontal engines of unitary construction, the first of which was the fully enclosed Slughi model. Engines were suspended beneath a spine-type frame, with the swinging arm pivoting directly in the gearbox casing. A conventional un-enclosed model followed; the latter was launched in 1960 as the Impala, though the name changed to Olimpia soon after.

Opinion on circuses: I remember enjoying circuses when I was little and my brothers and sisters would take me. But now while I appreciate the showmanship and the types of arts/acrobatics and all that but I can't enjoy it or appreciate it when it has animals especially ones that very obviously should not be in circuses.

Heyyy so for someone who wants to start listening to (modern) Italian music, where do you think would be a good place to start?

hi!! it really depends on what kind of music you like? i also don't to overwhelm you with some endless list, so here's a few of my fave albums from the last 2-3 years:

'gioventù bruciata' by mahmood: an almost perfect debut album. interesting mix of italian & egyptian sounds. standouts are 'soldi', which won sanremo 2019, & 'asia occidente'

'go go diva' by la rappresentante di lista: modern pop meets italy's cantautorato tradition (with added queerness). my faves are 'questo corpo', 'panico' & 'woow'

'liberato' by liberato: it seems reductive to call it urban pop. quintessentially neapolitan but effortlessly universal. faves are 'me staje appenenn' amò', 'je te voglio bene assaje' & 'oi marì' (when listening for the first time, i recommend watching the music videos in the order they came out, as they form two narratives that will let you understand the songs even if you don't speak the language)

'magmamemoria' by levante: a journey through memories, old and new. amazing lyrics and lots of musical references to the 90s. i'm obsessed with the title track, 'saturno' & 'antonio'. the mmxx version includes her sanremo 2020 song 'tikibombom', which is an absolute bop

and bc i mentioned sanremo twice: i actually think the best way to get an idea of what modern italian mainstream music sounds like is to listen to the sanremo playlists you can find on both spotify & youtube

What I enjoy the most?

What I enjoy the most:

It is watching science fiction, action and aventure series like The Umbrella Academy.

On the other had, I like to listen to Maneskin, a love rock band from Rome, Italy, as well as to listen to Rauw Alejandro, Paulo Londra, Drake, Trueno, Tiago PZK and Lit Killah.

I enjoy talking photos in happy moments, with family, friends about importante school issues or making decision about something.

I like and really enjoy trying highn notes when singing as an example in song like: I wanna be slave by Maneskin, Saturno by Pablo Alborán and What A Shame by Leyla Blue.

I enjoy choosing what I wear every day after school almost always denim and a sweatshirt with tennis shoes.

On the other hand, I also enjoy dancing, my paternal cousins, what we dance is a band.

Autopsia di un bene comune Lungo la Strada Provinciale 166 oggetto di numerosi abbandoni di rifiuti abusivi e di molta incuria da parte dei cittadini del luogo e delle Autorità, è presente ciò che sembra essere un’edicola. Alla sua destra nel lato non rappresentato da queste foto è presente un olivo non curato insieme ad una base di tronco d’albero di grandi dimensioni, sradicato e li gettato. (Alcuni rifiuti sono stati recuperati mentre si scattavano le foto, gettati o lasciati volare dai soliti cittadini irresponsabili, molto presenti in questa zona d’Italia).

Avvicinandosi alla struttura si nota presso l’entrata del filo spinato penzolante e alcuni fili arruginiti che avvolgono una colonna. La struttura ha due colonne con abaco stondato, in parte la struttura presenta dei muri in opera cementizia, mentre come si vede nella seconda foto risulta essere presente una struttura forse recuperabile ed antica\originale. 

Si può essere testimoni di opere di recupero di tali piccoli santuari (spesso usati per fare voti di protezione per lavoratori pendolari lungo vie del carbone) in varie aree d’italia e che come arpino avevano\hanno cave attive. Si potrebbe trattare di santuari antichi presenti in luoghi dove sorgeva l’acqua o di opere recenti (1800). Anche se il bene, che risulta su terreno privato potrebbe essere una piccola cappella privata.

E’ certamente opportuna una ricerca oltre che una messa in sicurezza del bene, che, se ci si sporge leggermente sempre mantenendo una distanza di sicurezza, presenta a chi si sporge ad osservare ancora la trave in legno visibile al centro della struttura.

Nell’eventualità di un restauro sarebbe necessario sicuramente proteggere con una base rialzata la struttura (marciapiede) mantenendo una salita a regola d’arte nel rispetto delle norme per l’abbattimento di barriere architettoniche, nonché dotare la struttura di una protezione adeguata, ma non eccessiva, per non danneggiarne l’estetica mantenendo un trade off adeguato tra il rischio di danneggiamento per incidenti stradali e il rispetto dell’estetica del bene.

La struttura si trova presso un tornante e sotto di sé, nonché a lato, possiede un uliveto non curato. Forse della XV Comunità Montana Valle del Liri, o di un privato. Inoltre, più sopra, a pochi metri sull’altra sponda della strada, è presente una discesa che costituisce l’uscita ad una casa.

Nonostante la presenza di alcuni alberi, la vista sulla valle a Nord Ovest di arpino, la contrada Vallone fino al Liri ed, oltre verso Priverno tendendo con lo sguardo ad Ovest è notevole e può offrire uno spazio di riflessione per chi volesse qui recarsi o come stop per una pista ciclabile\percorso pedonale per sportivi ed altri che praticano il territorio di Arpino. Il restauro di un tale bene non rappresenta una priorità, ma essendo lo stato della struttura ai limiti della tenuta, e costituiendo esso certamente un bene storico e quindi prezioso per ciò che racchiude e le memorie che può offrire al futuro, risulta senz’altro un’opera che merita l’attenzione di associazioni. Il Comune di Arpino stesso, fondazioni come il FAI o spirito imprenditoriale di singoli e associazioni dedicantisi con abnegazione alla cura del territorio possono in maniera organizzata e civile insieme alla popolazione occuparsi con successo di tali beni in rovina al fine di non perdere per sempre un altra tessera del mosaico e rendere fruibile a tutti storie, esperienze, emozioni di cui il futuro ha bisogno per conoscere chi siamo. E questa forse la tomba del dio Saturno? (in dialetto: “iocca re l'ova”).

In Arpino, a hill town in central Italy and birthplace of Marcus Tullius Cicero, there is a curious scattering of poems, carved in stone. Several are in languages other than Italian, with parallel translation, and I have a vague notion that they were commissioned by the local government around the turn of the millennium. 

One is by the Scottish poet Alexander Hutchison, who passed away in 2015. It is entitled A Saturno Conditum, meaning ‘Founded by Saturn’, a reference to the mythic origins of Arpino, whose old town is surrounded by cyclopean walls. I’ve dug out my photos of the poem and its translation, below, but have always carried in my head one of the couplets in the middle:

hospes et humus - guests a little while then gone.

Hospes: guest (or host). Humus: earth. A slightly odd pairing, but one that intrinsically makes sense to me. For when we arrive somewhere, as stranger or friend, for a few brief hours we can be truly earthbound. It’s as though the kinetic activity of the journey demands some passivity in return. The soul catches up with the body, and everything is fresh. A sensitive host will let you put your feet up, ideally with a gin and tonic in hand, and come to a complete stop. And if you happen to be in Arpino, there’s a chance you might also find Xie Lingyun’s four things that are difficult to come by at one time: ‘beautiful scenery, an appreciative friend, an enjoyable activity and a fine hour’.

Saturno always finishes their silver animals with a process known as lacquering. This is when the final piece is carefully cleaned, removing all dirt and oil from its surface, before a lacquer is applied.

Lacquering stops silver from becoming tarnished over time, so your silver animals won’t need much cleaning at all! They’re protected against air corrosion and every day grime, keeping them perfect for years to come.

Having said that, if you see dust or dirt on your figures you can give them a little clean.

How to Clean Your Animals

Cleaning Saturno Silver Animals is simple once you know how. But if not done properly, you could end up damaging the lacquer and tarnishing your piece, so pay attention!

First, rinse your item under lukewarm water to remove any loose dirt. Never use hot water as this can damage the lacquer, and you definitely don’t want that. Then, choose an acid-free, gentle dish soap. Clean off any dirt with a non-abrasive cloth.

Rinse your animal with warm water before drying with a cotton cloth. Make sure the cloth is completely clean and non-abrasive to avoid scratching the lacquer coat.

Keep Them Safe

Once you know how to clean your Saturno Silver Animals, the last step to keep them safe is knowing where to keep them. Because they’re glazed and lacquered, direct sunlight shouldn’t have too much of an effect on them. However if you want to ensure the bright colours remain the same over many years, we’d recommend placing them out of direct sunlight.

Never place your animals near the edge of a surface - this is just asking for trouble! Instead, keep them far from the edge to prevent any accidents. To reduce the chance of them becoming damaged, keep your animals in a glass display case or shelving unit. This will also stop frequent buildup of dust and dirt.

EQUINOCCIO DE PRIMAVERA 2020

El equinoccio de primavera se verificará el viernes veinte próximo a las 3:50 horas en México, el día y la noche tendrán la misma duración. Comienza el año solar y el Sol pasará a calentar, cada día más, el hemisferio norte terrestre.

Saturno lleva la batuta esta vez, cambia de signo de Capricornio a Acuario el sábado veintiuno próximo.

La próxima Luna Nueva será el martes veinticuatro a las 3:28 horas del centro de México, en 4° 12’ de Aries. El apogeo lunar (mayor distancia a la Tierra) es el miércoles veinticinco.

Para el treinta y uno de marzo, en la noche, la Luna estará lindando los límites de declinación Norte, llegando hasta los N 23° 47’ el primero de abril. Así que no se comportará como una Luna Nueva ligera, su efecto será profundo.

Para esas fechas se podrá evaluar el primer trimestre de este año dos mil veinte del que, ya desde noviembre pasado advertí sería uno excepcionalmente tenso, dramático, excitante, definitorio. Exigirá frugalidad, paciencia, perseverancia, disciplina, control, enfoque, templanza, sacrificio, trabajo, empatía y mucho esfuerzo.

La evaluación es tanto personal como mundial y, como espero ya se hayan dado cuenta, afecta todas las estructuras bioelectromagnéticas bajo este mundo sublunar.

Será una Luna Nueva para remover nuestro interior de manera radical, sacar a consciencia los daños, heridas, rencores, dolores y carencias vividas; y poder sanarlas.

Recomiendo hacer una preparación radical para lo que viene con la próxima super Luna Llena del martes siete de abril, a las 21:35 horas del centro de México, en 18° 43’ Libra.
