The fan idea that Karin and Sakura would kill each other for Sasuke is so dumb.
They canonically got a chance to get each other killed, remember? Karin could have stayed silent when Sasuke was standing behind Sakura with a chidori as much as Sakura could have killed Karin when Sasuke ordered her to. And they didn't.
They didn't want each other to die.
In that moment, both understood the depth of the darkness Sasuke was in. They recognized they were victims, they were in danger and that they wouldn't sacrifice a girl so much like themselves for a twisted version of the boy they fell in love with when they were still foolish little girls.
What we got was Karin feeling upset when she saw Sakura crying so sadly and Sakura healing Karin on the spot. Even when they were enemies at the moment, there was an unspoken sentiment between them: I won't sacrifice you for him.

thoughts on naruhina + boruto and their...family
Will preface this by saying that this is a combination of observation and analysis and if you don't agree with me, take this with a grain of salt and scroll away.
(If you're a naruhina/nh shipper, do yourself a favor and scroll away because this isn't your cup of tea.)
sasusaku + sarada version.
Personally, it's almost emotionally triggering for me to watch the NH family because it reminded me of what my family dynamic used to be and witnessing it unfold in the sequel from a viewer's perspective made me realize how dysfunctional it is and what could've been done better.
Let's start at the issue at hand: Naruto not coming home, being too busy as Hokage to the point that he misses important family events like birthdays.
Boruto's reaction to the issue is realistic, especially to a kid that doesn't understand. I'm not saying that Naruto doesn't have a contribution to that mess at all (it's worse when you realize that he would rather be in his office worrying about the number of headbands than be with his family but that is a separate discussion that I will dive on in the near future, among other things). Basically, he wanted his father to be, well, present, so he does everything to get his attention. And no, those pranks aren't pointless. Being a Hokage means attending public functions and being involved with the community and what's the best freaking way to get your dad's attention by embarrassing him while on the job (which happens to be the same thing that stands between him being a good father)? Now, this wouldn't escalate into massive proportions like cheating-on-the-Chunin-exams level if Hinata was able to placate and explain things to her son.
In terms of explaining, there are several things to consider:
realizing the issue
being logical about the reasons
seeing eye to eye with your kid, emphasizing on how your kid perceived this issue emotionally and determining what they want
not making excuses and stating the reasons in the perspective that your kid can understand
openly communicating the issue to the ones in concern and expressing your stance on this, hearing them out, and reaching a consensus (or a conclusion)
But the thing is, Hinata herself doesn't see the problem, thus eliminating the chance to see her kid eye-to-eye on this particular issue--given that they aren't on the same page from the start. It's baffling as well as concerning to see that she doesn't have any qualms with her husband making a secondary residence in the Hokage Office, sleeping on the couch and not on their shared bed, overworking himself to the point that even his freaking advisor tells him to go the fuck home, would rather eat cup ramen than enjoy a home cooked meal, and the tipping point: is okay with her husband sending a clone to celebrate their daughter's birthday.
And her telling Boruto that his father is the Hokage and it's a busy position pretty much doesn't cover how fucked up the issue is. Boruto could easily counter that with well Shikadai's dad is the Hokage advisor but he can go home so what's stopping mine from doing the same? In short, she keeps on excusing the behavior which in turn gives off that Naruto prioritizes the job the most and their family clearly comes second and oh my, does that sound so appealing on a child's ears? Definitely not.
The point is, a kid would go through drastic measures to find the assurance and approval that they need especially if it wasn't provided to them. The pranks stopped when Sasuke entered the picture. He was able to talk to Boruto about his dad. Give opinions about Naruto as the person, not just someone in a high position. That's exactly what Boruto needed to hear.
Now you may wonder why Sasuke was able to do this and not Hinata? That's because Sasuke pretty much understands Naruto and he is able to provide more input about Naruto outside of his achievements and position. Not to mention that Sasuke pretty much took Boruto under his wing to train him if he wanted to defeat his dad. And one thing about Sasuke is he isn't pretty much holding back when he calls out Boruto, something I've noticed that Hinata wasn't able to do. Watching the scene of Sasuke scolding Boruto in front of his own mother is pretty funny because why is your husband's best friend giving off mother more than you?

Why is it offensive to so many SNS fans to even consider that Gaara and Naruto would make a good couple? IF (one BIG if) there was a scenario where Sasuke had died in the end and Naruto hadn't, which would never be at Naruto's hands btw but then so many others wanted Sasuke gone, would you not want to see Naruto have some comfort? Who would have given it to him? Who would be capable of it? Sakura? HINATA??? Kakashi? Sai? All of these are emotionally inept ass people.
Gaara is perhaps only second to Sasuke in Naruto's eyes, in terms of connection and mutual empathy. Gaara is the only other character to get a retrieval arc where Naruto is the pursuer. Gaara is the only other person Naruto goes absolutely feral for, and no, Hinata in Pein arc doesn't count. Totally different contexts. Gaara is the only other person than Sasuke that Naruto shows a deep personal connection with. Gaara after all was also a jinchuuriki, who shared similar and perhaps even worse predicament than Naruto, as Naruto himself acknowledged.
Naruto and Gaara share a mutual understanding. They care for each other deeply. And God forbid, if something had happened to Sasuke, I would certainly want Gaara to be with Naruto and knowing Gaara, he would be there, no matter what. If Naruto were on Mars, Gaara would find a way to be there for him. Gaara loves Naruto, he understands Naruto, and Sasuke as well to quite an extent. Naruto also is aware of Gaara in part two, even though it's Sasuke whom he loves. But there is certainly a mutual fascination and attraction between them, a certain awareness, kindredness. So if Naruto ended up with Gaara after it all, I would not resent that ending. I would be pleased to see that Naruto at least, finally gets some love and affection after starving for it for so long. As in when Sasuke wasn't there. And who better than Gaara to give it? Gaara is the only person who would even stand a chance to be able to comfort Naruto in case of Sasuke's demise. Nothing would make Gaara happier than making Naruto happy. He would make it his life's mission.
Naruto chose Sasuke over everyone, including Gaara, so there's no doubt that Sasuke is Naruto's priority over everyone. But damn, I just want to see my boy happy. Gaara won't make him happy the way Sasuke does. Naruto wouldn't even want to live if Sasuke was gone. But Gaara is quite the lover in his own right. And he loves Naruto, truly. He knows the deprivation of love, just like Sasuke and Naruto, he knows how it feels to be at the receiving end of people's hate and indifference. And he learnt what it meant to be cared for and valued because of Naruto. The same thing Sasuke did for Naruto. He gave up his life for Naruto in waves arc which in turn made Naruto realize how deeply he felt for Sasuke all along and how much it meant to him to be valued in such a way by another person. That this is what it means to be family. Gaara had a change of heart because Naruto showed him that he was valued and understood. That he wasn't alone anymore. Naruto hurt for Gaara too. So much. Naruto is passionate about Gaara. He shed tears for him, he wailed and screamed and raged and turned into a beast for him. Gaara is a very well written character and he has a well developed, actually quite beautiful relationship with Naruto. Their relationship and its development gets a lot of visibility in the manga as well.
I also recognise the fact that if it were actually possible to make Naruto end up with Gaara, Naruto would have definitely ended up with Sasuke. Heh. But that's not the point I am making. I don't actively ship Gaara with Naruto. But seeing them together makes me happy and fact is, them ending with each other would be a thousand times better than what we have now.

I was rewatching the first season of Naruto and I was wondering what the omegas would do if they were put against an Alpha they like in the chuunin exam. Especially what will Shino and Shikamaru do. Would they refuse to fight, stand up and be unable to move? Neji, Sasuke and Itachi wouldn't even have a choice if they had to fight, but what would it look like then? There's so much potential for drama here.
Oooh! An interesting question!
Naruto x Alpha
He's sad that they can't both win, because he kind of wanted that, but he's also excited to fight the alpha he's kind of been crushing on!
He can show them how strong he is!
They will definitely fall in love with him then!
Sasuke x Alpha
Denial, thy name is Sasuke.
He doesn't acknowledge that he likes the alpha he has to fight.
He just fights them to win, brutally.
He would stop before serious injury and be more aware of that than he would fighting anyone else though.
Shikamaru x Alpha
This would be a baaaad match up if Shikamaru has chosen this alpha as his.
He will not fight them. He quite literally can't.
He wouldn't even be able to manage a spar if the obsession was fairly new. The instinct is too strong to ignore.
That being said, I feel like strings would be pulled to try and avoid this. Shikamaru is one that is pretty much guaranteed a promotion, so the Hokage probably pulls some strings to make sure they only have to fight at the very end, if at all.
If they were forced to fight, Shikamaru would refuse and simply forfeit.
Chouji x Alpha
He's nervous and doesn't want to have to fight them.
He does.
But ultimately it works against him, because he is too scared of hurting them and doesn't use any of his more powerful moves.
Shino x Alpha
His bugs had chosen that alpha, they wouldn't hurt them, which does put Shino at a disadvantage.
He does still fight them, he's not about to forfeit, but he's not as powerful without his more deadly and op bugs.
He still has an excellent shot at winning though, provided he can subdue them safely.
Kiba x Alpha
Stoked to fight the alpha he has a crush on!!
He's an Inuzuka going through puberty, this is what all his dreams are about lol.
He gives it his all and enjoys the fight, even if he doesn't win.
Neji x Alpha
Another one in denial about having a crush at all.
He will fight the alpha he likes with no problems.
In fact, it's a very quick and brutal fight because it makes Neji uncomfortable so he tries to end it as fast as he can.
It's cute in a repressed, sad way.
Lee x Alpha
He is honoured to get the chance to fight with the alpha he likes!!
He would find it disrespectful to go easy on them, and hopes they feel that way too.
He wants an all out, fair fight.
And regardless of who wins... maybe he could use it as a way to ask the alpha out for a date!!

Ayesha Liveblogs Sasaki and Miyano S1
I am watching this entirely because I was recommended a YouTube compilation on this show and I watched a few seconds of it before I decided to see for myself what's up. The little I saw gave me Haruhi and Tamaki energy
"As that senpai strode forward, I admired him in secret." Alright, I'll bite, where is this going?
"Dial it back several notches. Or I'll have this made into slash art." INSANE threat, Miyano, please continue
What's with all these little manga fans calling other people normies?
Recommending things to people with fifteen disclaimers is so relatable. Me about Bridgerton LMAO
"Despite all the hard stuff the protagonist went through, he resolved himself in a really cool way and moved through his burdens. I really liked that story." I've only had Sasaki for 4 minutes but I love him already for his review of this Gay Detective Manga
Tumblr media
On one hand, I do appreciate how obvious Sasaki is about his feelings (the nickname, the physical affection, the dropping off cookies to class), but I'm right with you Miyano, in your position (being gay in high school) I would probably refuse to interrogate it any further on the off chance I am incorrect
"I saw you, you know. Chatting away happily with the boy on the basketball team from class 1-A, with the refreshing, lovely smile." So caught was I in the fact this show is called Sasaki and Miyano that I didn't consider for a second Miyano might like some other guy (Hirano)
I do love the interesting little dynamic they're setting up between Sasaki, Miyano and Hirano
"But he's a guy. He has such a cute face though. I feel kinda anxious." Oh Sasaki, you're in it now
The chronology of these scenes is a little confusing, it only becomes clear midway through the scene if it's the past or the present
"Everything is too much." JKGKJHG the implication that Sasaki is like, ready to die aftering getting beat up (moderately inconvenienced). The Sasuke of it all. Also, me too, baby
"You're so cute, Mya-chan. Wanna go out?" Oh, so he's been OBVIOUS obvious
Tumblr media
"You try standing in front of a BL shelf with another guy! You'll just end up fodder for everyone's conversations!" "You sure about that?" "Yes, I am." "Then I'll stand at a different shelf." There's something so sweet about this. Something something understanding and boundary-respecting
"If there's someone I like, I want to know them." Giggling and kicking my feet over everything Sasaki says
"He's gonna be misinterpreted." Oh, I think he's gonna be correctly interpreted, Miyano
HAHAHAHA background conversation of "When [Miyano] blushes, could you mistake him for a girl?" "What? No way! He's a dude." "Yeah, I wouldn't either." Implying one of Miyano's classmates also thinks he's cute LOL he is a menace to heterosexuality
Not Sasaki challenging Miyano to Gay Chicken via Pocky and immediately forfeiting cause he was embarrassed hahahaha
Why is it MEN's Pocky?? Which I've just googled and is a real thing??? For what lmao!!
Why do they keep cutting away to the cat, is it a metaphor for something
I appreciate the homie straight up just being like "Are you dating?" without any teasing, just wondering about their situation
"Sasaki-senpai is a good person. Remember when I got beat-up before summer break?" OHHHHH I see how it loops back into the friend group
"Those two have gotten pretty close. I guess I should take that as a good thing." I thiiink Hirano likes Miyano but his vibes are a little hard to read so it could easily be Sasaki or neither. In any case, I do like his Minato hair
Tumblr media
"Thirty-six. Who the hell went first?" Awwww poor Sasaki, experiencing his first bout of jealousy after hearing about all the chocolates Miyano got from his classmates.
"In that case, Mya-chan, ya wanna find out [whether I'm a clumsy kisser]?" Sasaki said: I will not pass up an opportunity to ask Miyano to kiss
Miyano said: I will simply not read into this, I pretend it was a joke
Miyano also said: So caught was I in how Sasaki embarrasses me in public every two seconds with the sincerity of his feelings that I forgot for a second he's also cool
Of the two girlfriends that have been mentioned so far, both Sasaki's friend and Miyano's friend have girlfriends who seem to be fujosh*s and let me tell you, I don't think this show is ever in danger of passing the Bechdel test
Awwwww, Miyano broke Sasaki by giving him a White Day present
"What do I do? My heart won't stop." "Good. You'd be dead if it did." "It's pounding." "You out of shape or something?" Hirano's patent refusal to romanticize life makes me happy
I also like Hirano's hair being black, what can I say, I love a switch-up. Also I just like black hair
"Do you let your roommate touch [your hair]?" "Yeah, he's the one who told me it's damaged." Miyano said: Oh my god they were roommates
"He might be treating you as BL material like my girlfriend, you know." [Turns to Miyano] "Are you?" "Huh? Come to think of it, I've never done that with you." "That's news to me. Give him the same treatment." Not Hirano complaining that Sasaki ISN'T being objectified for BL purposes LMAOOOOO
Also Sasaki extremely willing to abandon his friend Ogasawara in his hour of need for his crush jkjhgkjhg. Not the best move, but understandable
Every time there is a line of uncaptioned, silent dialogue, I always assume it's that they're saying "I love you" (shout-out that one JJK scene LOL):
Tumblr media
"If senpai only saw me as a kohai, would he, in that quiet tone, here on the train, (when I wasn't even awake!) say that?" "I like you." Oh I love the immediate reveal, we appreciate a romance that doesn't beat around the bush
KJHKJGHKJH none of their classmates overhearing or caring about how they're discussing if Hirano would top or bottom. My god, this school
Also also also. I've been thinking this for a while, in part because I truly think too many people are TOO possessed of topping and bottoming as personality traits, does no one in these shows believe in versing LMAO?
Setting all that aside, it is very sweet how flustered they keep getting whenever they're close
Tumblr media
"I like girls, not guys." I've been wondering about this as well. In Miyano's little brain, these things (liking gay manga and projecting BL onto his classmates) are two things that have nothing to do with his orientation. And while that can be true. YOU GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY*
*As a general term, I'm not saying he can't like women LOL
You know, I'm so glad I knew I was bi before I started watching so many gay shows because that could cause some confusion for sure
Miyano imagining himself literally on top of Sasaki: Which could mean nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did I just miss it earlier or did they wait until ep 4 to give Tashiro (blond friend who asked if Sasaki and Miyano were dating) and Kuresawa (nice but stoic friend who got beat up and loves his girlfriend) names
"I read every manga she's got. But I found one about a... slime? And a delinquent. And now I have no idea what to do anymore. I can't understand what she wants." I love Ogasawara actually. The act of reading every BL manga to understand his girlfriend is a love language for sure
"You don't do that because he's your boyfriend?" "You're mistaken! We're not in a relationship." Everyone at this school thinks has Miyano and Sasaki clocked but Miyano LOL
"I thought you also liked guys." Ogasawara no. 1 wingman for Sasaki:
Tumblr media
"Not that it matters anyway. And it ain't my business." Also very true. I love everything about this interaction, Ogasawara
"In middle school, I had a crush on a girl. So I know I don't." I see your confusion, Miyano. Google bisexuality and circle back. If that doesn't work, try comphet
"I like you, Miyano. What I said in the summer, I'm not taking that back." "Um, I, uh..." I can wait... You don't have to answer right away. I'd be happy if you gave it some thought." This is slowly becoming my favourite trope
I don't know what the hell kind of cheerleading uniform Hirano's outfit is supposed to be, but I dig it:
Tumblr media
"What if a Committee Member is violating the dress code?" "Like who?" "A certain blond individual." "Oh, me." I think Hirano might actually be my favourite character. I love the contradiction of him being a delinquent on the Discipline Committee
This show has been so delightful so far, I beg of you not to make it weird with this school nap
It was borderline, but it seems like we narrowly escaped
"Wait 'confessed?' Should you be telling me?" said Hirano, before immediately tossing his phone at Sasaki with Miyano pre-dialed and proving why he was a good person to tell
Also. Also. WHAT YEAR IS IT LMAO. The flip phone kjhgkjhg
"I like you a lot. for more than your face. That's all. See ya. And take care." "Sasaki, go let Miyano punch you. Actually, can I just punch you?" Hirano ACTUAL NO. 1 Wingman for Miyano
"Is it serious?" "Yeah." "You know what? Nope. Forget all of this. This is creeping me out!" ["Just don't do anything careless.] "Same." ["I won't.] The serious discussion of feelings followed by the disgruntled dialogue and sincere exchange in the subtext.... WAH 😭😭😭 I love Hirano and Sasaki
Tumblr media
"Some scenes can make you feel embarassed." This conversation about BL anime feels a little self-referential, but okay
Do we think the sucker worked for Sasaki because he probably has them while studying and had that whole sense memory thing going on? Or was it just the encouragement of his crush giving him a birthday present? Or was it, in fact, Hirano's study cards? Probably the last one
"Take Miyano. Even with his cute face, he's a guy." Tashiro has to tell Miyano he's cute like once a day, at least
"I just mean people are more than their looks." "So you were saying my girlfriend likes me for my looks and for who I am. Thanks, Tashiro." "That's some self-confidence you've got, Kuresawa." I also do appreciate Kuresawa's level of delusional self-confidence
You truly have to wonder what Miyano's friends think is going on if not an intricate flirting ritual. Do they just patently ignore Miyano's claims?
"Do you happen to like guys?" "I don't think so. Why?" We'll unpack this conversation and trope at another time Sasaki, but let's focus on the 'WHY?' WHY DO YOU THINK HE'S ASKING? YOU CONFESSED TO HIM, A GUY!
"Thinking about all of this, BL gets more and more confusing.... And when you said you liked my face... Though my face is feminine, I'm a guy so.... And I might be taller than you in the future!" Sasaki trying not to giggle as Miyano stream of consciousness processes his feelings aloud <3
"And when I'm 50, I may look totally different than I do now..." I love that Miyano, after one (1) confession, in high school, is like WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME WHEN I'M 50?
"Senpai, I want to consider it a little longer!" Awww, he got there!
"You might grow taller than me one day, and your face might change completely. But I think I'll still like you, Mya-chan. So take as long as you need to answer." They are SOOOOO SWEET
Tumblr media
"Our cultural day festival will have a cross-dressing competition." I feel like we're moving past this too quickly. Admittedly, I've seen this trope several times before, but usually it's a play where they're cast in a cross-dressing role. It's not the sole purpose. Is cross-dressing a standard cultural activity for high school festivals? If not, why did you just say that like it's supposed to be?
"The Cultural Festival Committee revealed their tastes when they wrested permission to hold it from the Student Council." Ahh, so it was not standard, it is a preference of this school LOL
"I'm down. I bet my girlfriend would love [me cross-dressing]." Kuresawa unmatched security and affection. We love
Wjkhkjh the Chairman seems like a total menace to his Committee members, I do enjoy that
"I wanna see the person I like." [Miyano runs into the staff room yelling about the room key] [Sasaki laughing in the background] Sasaki said: New flirting dynamic unlocked
Tumblr media
Gjkhkjhk Makimura not seeing Miyano for two full years and immedately objectifying him for art reasons. At least he gets some romantic closure about her
"It's not about gender. I don't want to be rough with someone I like." Ohhhh Sasaki
New Sasaki lore unlocked: He is the son of bakers
I really am curious about the girlfriend in the hospital storyline with Kuresawa. Is it leading anywhere
The way I thought for a second Miyano might be worried about Sasaki buying the manga because it would disrupt the borrowing dynamic they've created but he was actually so excited that Sasaki shared his interest and was outwardly engaging with it!!
"Hirano, aren't they a little too close?" "I-I don't know. Don't ask me," said Hirano, though he did know, in fact, and was actively involved
"Well, fudanshi, is it?" JKHKJGHG the way Ogasawara (Jiro) just calls Miyano fudanshi while seeking advice and he responds to it
[Jiro, seriously] "I don't move on a woman I have no intention of marrying." "I think that's the kind of thing she likes about you." [Jiro, upset] "That I'll let her wear the pants?" PLS he is so silly
"I cross-dressed and Tashiro mistook me for a girl. But our love story failed to take off." HAHAHAHA this is the funniest way to phrase what happened
Sasaki asking Miyano to put his bangs down bc it makes him nervous. Sweet boy
I actually do appreciate that they followed through on giving Miyano a less overtly feminine outfit to begin with
"Chairman, what do you think it means to like someone?" Oh, Miyano, you are SO in it
"You looked like a girl, but the difference wasn't as big as with Kuresawa." "Thanks. Complicated thanks." Adding 'Complicated Thanks' to my vocab immediately
"I wouldn't like it if a guy took pics of my girlfriend, so scratch that." Lmaooooo so that settles it, they are patently ignoring Miyano's claims this is platonic (also this is truly the most drastic their height difference has ever looked):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You'll just let your classmates pressure you?" I can't tell where exactly Sasaki's upset is coming from, and perhaps neither can he
"I'm gonna say something inconsiderate. If I asked you not to compete, would you drop out?" Because he's hot, or because he's reluctant, or because of a third secret thing like Sasaki having to re-evaluate the circumstances of his attraction?
I appreciate how even when Miyano has said nothing about his situation, Kuresawa is still trying to help him via manga store visit
"I made the decision to compete myself. So I want to follow through with it." "Okay. Good luck. I'm happy you told me how you feel." Ohhhhh this
"If possible, would you like to see the festival together?" Hee hee, good for Miyano
"Arranging a date?" "We're not going out, but I guess it's a date." Not Hirano politely eavesdropping on this whole exchange
I fucking love the concept of a Hooligan Cafe, and Hirano as Chief Hooligan, 10 bajillion/10zo
Tumblr media
I am going to ignore Chairman Hanzawa's self-fortune and focus instead on his helpful advice to Miyano about building confidence
"He had ten more minutes though." "It's just ten minutes." Hirano letting Sasaki off early for his lunch date <3 That's my hooligan, no. 1 wingman
"Can you support Miyano appearing in a cross-dressing competition like this?" "How much do you know?" "He hasn't told me anything. I got a distinct impression, though." HAHAHA I love this exchange. Sasaki said: Who told you we're almost dating? To which Kuresawa said: I have eyes
"Well, that makes sense. I never did hide it." LOL Sasaki, u right
The 'what about when I'm 50' belatedly hitting Sasaki HEE HEE
Colour me cliche, I do fucking love a fireworks trope
"Could you... wait just a little longer for my answer? It feels irresponsible to give it right now." Believe it or not, Miyano, this is also kind of an answer
"I wanted him to hug me then. I wanted to take care of him. Do I like him the same way he likes me?" Yeah Miyano, you do, catch up!
Holding hands with him during the fireworks while blushing and leaning into him is ALSO also kind of an answer, but I do appreciate your sense of romantic responsibility, Miyano
Tumblr media
"Even though I don't know, I want to tell him I like him... Why is that?" Welcome to your first love, Miyano
[Text overlay] 'Delinquent, motherly, blond, Discipline Committee, handsome, Vice-chairman, strong fighter, trusted by teachers, etc.' "He packs together a lot of tropes." HAHAHAH that's also part of why I like Hirano, Miyano
I like that Sasaki makes Miyano forget his anxieties about other people perceiving their date
"If these feelings aren't the real deal, what is?" It took Miyano two full dates and ten full episodes, but he got there!
Oh thank GOD Hanzawa has a gay brother with whom he has a complicated relationship, when he started whispering "niisan" I got nervous about the direction it was taking
"I thought he was finally dating Sasaki-senpai." Tashiro said: I refuse to engage in allusions, when is the hard launch?
I love that Hanzawa's older brother came out and his little brother was immediately like ditto. I will not lie though, in my life I do appreciate my brother for repping the future grandkid issue
STOOOP MIYANO HAS BEEN CHANGING HIS BAG OVER FOR ALL THESE EPISODES BECAUSE OF SASAKI? AHHHH I love them!!!!
Also the way that Sasaki was just about to kiss Miyano in the hallway after school and Miyano's immediate reaction was 'Well, alright!' They have no sense of self-control LOL:
Tumblr media
"You still don't have each other's number?" Hirano said, ENOUGH, HOMOSEXUALS
"And people will ask things they'd never ask an opposite-sex couple. I guess they can't help but focus on it, even if it's irrelevant to the discussion." THANK YOU MASATO HANZAWA
"Sasaki, you forgot stuff at school. Get your butt back here." [...] "What did he leave here?" "I lied. this way, he'll run into Miyano." Hirano for World's Least Enthusiastic Matchmaker HAHAHA
Sasaki weaving a tale about how he is a horror to society for trying to kiss his almost-boyfriend while Miyano is thinking about how much he loves Sasaki
"I like you, Sasaki-senpai!" GOOD FOR THEM!!!!!!!!
[Sasaki, immediately crying] "Sorry. No, I mean, you can think about it some more. No rush." BABY
"I feel like words aren't enough to get this across. But he won't know if I don't tell him." YEAHHHHHHH MIYANOOOO
I get so distracted by enjoying the show that liveblogging becomes an afterthought, but just now, Miyano had a very good and clear confession
I do, as always, love a park bench romance:
Tumblr media
"Sasaki-senpai, I like you! Be my boyfriend." Miyano said: There will be no ambiguity in this return confession!!!
The little callback to 'Wanna go out' and the crouched kiss and the exchange of numbers!! <3 Worth the wait
"We're dating." "Oh... That's great... Dammit. Look I'm not great that at this." "I know." Hehe it is only right that No. 1 Wingman Hirano is looped in right away
"Um, well... We started going out." "What? Really. So I was right." "Yeah, yeah." HAHAHA lmao @ Kuresawa deciding Tashiro gets to know
Double LMAO @ Ogasawara being the only one unaware of what they are all pleased about
"You're not going out with Miyano, right?" Again the chronology of this OVA is a little confusing. I know the ep title is A Tiny Episode Before He Realized His Feelings, but they talked about this at the festival. So this is post-festival but pre-confession?
This keychain search has me wondering beyond the romantic, how much Miyano lets manga run his thought processes
[Jiro, ominously] "Did ya lose something?" [Miyano, startled] "You scared me." [Sasaki, even more ominously] "Ogasawara. Don't scare Mya-chan." This is what happens when you date a delinquent LOL
"Animals love him. I knew Ogasawara-senpai was a good person." HAHAHAHA the kittens getting interested in Ogasawara's bell in his bag and Miyano reading this as a Disney Princess-like affinity for wildlife. Romanticize your friends:
Tumblr media
Are we finally about to meet Hirano's little background boyfriend? I can't wait
"I bet he remembered something he had to do. I'm sure he'll text us." Oh, I take Sasaki's sweatdrop as confirmation this is situationship-related
OHHHHHHHHH it's Kagi, the guy who Hirano offered to get a drink on festival day
"But I saw you and I couldn't help but grab you." "Are you a dog chasing a ball or something?" "Want me to be your pet?" GOOD LORD, I NO LONGER BLAME MIYANO FOR THINKING SOMETHING IS GOING ON BETWEEN HIRANO AND KAGI, IT IS ENITRELY MERITED
"I want to stay here with you a little longer." Kagi said: I gotta take up the mantle of Obviously Pining Guy since Sasaki's feelings are now requited
They waited until the very last episode to start putting Hirano in romantic situations. Also worth the wait:
Tumblr media
"You see, the Student Council President sometimes secretly feeds the cats. Thanks to that, several cats have settled here at the school." I didn't expect for them to actually have an explanation for the cat cutaways, but there you go
I love this episode dedicated to getting to know the Discipline Committee more
Bonus: Sasaki and Miyano (Graduation Film)
I will not lie I did like skim-read the whole Hirano to Kagiura manga before this film so I am not as surprised by the roommate dynamic as I was one (1) episode ago
"Earrings... I can't get up if you don't put them in." Still, stroking your roommate's ear IS a bold choice first thing in the morning
I won't lie, I would ALSO fall in love with Hirano if he woke me up every morning and ate the veggies I didn't like and helped me in school and gave me cookies he'd personally made
"The walls have fundashi ears." Bold way to bring Miyano back into this story, but okay
"If I get married, I hope it's to someone frank like you, Kagi-kun." What a thing to say to your roommate, Hirano!
I won't lie, I am 100% sold on the roommate romance, I both love the trope and I can't believe they described their ideal partners as each other:
Tumblr media
Gjgkjgljglj @ Miyano giving his boyfriend a Good Luck Gay Manga for his college entrance exams
HAHAHAHAH Tashiro looking for Miyano and Kuresawa to give him relationship guidance and them just both responding that they do with their boyfriend/girlfriend, "The Normal Stuff."
"Hirano keeps saying, 'Passing isn't the finish line.' He's kept up his studies the whole time. It's really cool." I love Sasaki and Hirano's dynamic as always
"If it's long, I can run my fingers through it, which is fun... But if it's short, I can see your face better, which makes me happy." Miyano is still shocked when Sasaki flirts even though they are literally dating
"Until I pass my exams, I won't touch him more than this." [Tiktok audio voice] It's like a reward
Sasaki having a smart phone while Miyano has a flip phone truly does make me confused about the era. Is it now, where we've circled back to some flip phones being popular? Or is it 2010, when some people had smart phones, and some had flip phones, and both were normal?
Take a shot every time someone in this anime gets sick from overstudying LMAO
"Do you want some... affection?" [Both pause and blush] "Yeah." Awwww Miyano asking but both them immediately getting embarrassed. Also are they doing a mask kiss? That's sweet!
Tumblr media
Oh, they did do a masked kiss! We love a follow-through
"I've heard that some boys give girls chocolates [for Valentine's Day] these days. How nice! Make some for me sometime too, okay?" "A-Actually, the person I want to give them to is a guy." Are we coming out to mum right now, Miyano?
"Mom, I really like being around this senpai, and I want to keep being with him. I-I like-like him." "Lovely. It's wonderful to like someone. I know, 'cause I like your dad." AWWWW this is a really lovely response, good job Mama Miyano
"I'll get good enough to make your sweets by myself next year." [Sasaki, internally] "Next year?" The way Miyano is always thinking about his future with Sasaki, without even being aware of it
The way that Miyano is smiling and thinking about the people in his life not caring that he's dating a man <3 We love shows devoid of homophobia
Now that we're about halfway through the ep, it is funny that they dedicated the first ten minutes to Hirano and Kagiura and then the next twenty to Miyano and Sasaki because you'd think if they were going to involve both it would be more alternating scenes
"Are you dating him for real?" "That's none of your business, Ogasawara." HAHAHA Sasaki said: We're not THAT close, Jiro
"Which role are you? Nope! Never mind, I don't actually want to hear stuff like that about a friend." "And I don't want to tell you." Hanzawa foreshadowed Sasaki being asked this question, though I did not anticipate it coming from Ogasawara
They really are making some bold choices, both anatomically and in the kissing in the third year classroom
"I'm fine with either. Whatever Miyano wants." Realistic discussion of sexual interests? In anime? Shocking!!
Tumblr media
"How could I do that at school?" That was also my question, Miyano!
"You've got it wrong. We're dating." You know, I like that they're establishing this, but the translations in this show are so indirect. What Sasaki says is "kōhai ja nai," which is specifically the strong refusal of the term kōhai, which I feel like they could subtitle as, "He's not my kōhai." But they translate it back without using that word, instead as, "You've got it wrong," I guess to avoid repetition? I don't know that much Japanese, but I've noticed a lot of translations like that with this show, how they drop a number of nouns in the subtitles to interpet more broadly. I talk about captioning in every show ever, but this is the first time there was a noticeable difference in subtitles from Japanese for me. Weird!
Also, I made the no homophobia call too early I guess LOL
"The thing is, I can't be too pushy with my sister. In middle school, I injured her." "Did you two fight?" "Not really... but I pushed her over and she got hurt. It left a scar. That's when I understood that I was bigger than other kids." Having a sibling much bigger than you really do be that way, eventually it becomes dangerous
"Senpai, your sister is important to you, huh?" "Eh... medium-important." HAHAH this is such a brother answer to give
"For me to respond with 'why?'... It's because you like each other. I'm very sorry." "It's all right. People change how they think about things over time." Sasaki's sister said: I went for a walk, I can accept gay couples now
"You're a cool guy, Miyano-kun. I think I might get why Shumei fell for you." Both Sasaki and Big Sister's Boyfriend coming to interrupt because of this compliment is very funny:
Tumblr media
"Shumei-san." "Why is that the part you remember?" "Maybe I'll call you Yoshikazu." "You could." I will never tire of the first name to last name transition in media, it is my favourite
Hirano grabbing Sasaki by the back of the neck like he's a misbehaving cat when he looks at his boyfriend during the graduation rehearsal is so cute
Tumblr media
"Would you be the jealous type, Miyano?" Everything Hanzawa says is foreshadowing
"Drop it! It's got nothing to do with you." Hirano said: DO NOT gossip about why Sasaki would sprint after his favourite second-year to explain the (fake) lipstick mark on his cheek, and the other Third Years said: That's fair, not my business!
"How can my heart be so small?" said Miyano, as if jealousy were not a normal human emotion to feel, especially at 17
"If you're going to gush to me about him, be careful what you say. My girlfriend will find out." "Have a long and happy relationship." HAHA the friend group designating them as Relationship Status Official
Hirano said: I know we haven't talked about my situationship with my roommate for forty minutes, but I promise, it's still going on
Hkjhkhkjh Sasaki offering Miyano his school blazer for "when he gets taller." I don't think he will, but the faith is nice!
Awwwwwww Miyano copying Sasaki's embarrassed gesture of laying his face down!! <3 <3 <3
The flashbacks to their different moments across the school are getting me. I am just a sentimental bitch at heart
HAHAHA THE DUCK AND COVER KISS WHILE KURESAWA LOOKS ON FROM BELOW LIKE: 👁👄👁
Tumblr media
This was a lovely show, highly recommend, very sweet and likeable cast, relatively unembarrassing given the initial premise, friends to lovers, mutual pining, not a single person at their all-boys school giving them a hard time for their relationship, good friendships, beautiful animation, no real complaints on my part

I was watching the Sasuke shinden arc... and it's kind of sad and frustrating that, like Sasuke and Orochimaru's conversation said, they technically have both committed enough crimes that they should be in prison. Personally, I think Orochimaru should have stayed dead.
We as the audience understand that Sasuke's motivations came from deep hurt and loss of his loved ones, so I'm glad he gets a chance to live a more normal life. But it feels so unfair that Itachi never got the same chance. Maybe he wouldn't have wanted it... he really feels he deserves to die for what he did and doesn't want to live anymore, but my heart always hurts for him. So much was pushed on him at such a young age, the hatred of a whole village and a whole clan on his shoulders, the hopes of a best friend and the problems incompetent leaderships didn't want to deal with, the things evil people didn't want to dirty their hands with. The injustice of it all is just always painful.
Maybe Sasuke stays away from the village to protect it from being raided to take his eyes/triggering a power imbalance, but also who could stand living in a place where they are just a remnant of something that was once great, of something complex that is now just a regret, where some see them as a criminal, and some see them as an asset, or the last seed of a rare bloodline. Who could stand being in the village when it just triggers guilt but also perhaps rightful resentment, and then guilt for that old pain when everyone else seems to think "not getting thrown in prison" is good enough reparations for a whole family being murdered and being repeatedly traumatized and abandoned by the place that was supposed to be your home?

Sasuke wandered confusedly through the hall, loud chatter and excited squeals ringing in his ears as he passed booths filled with merchandise; all with crowded lines waiting for a chance to at least see what was being offered.
His eyes narrowed as he searched for the bright blonde hair of the friend that annoyed him into coming in the first place, but amongst fans covered in merch and with hair that was dyed to match the musicians, he was no where to be seen. Sasuke scoffed. Naruto begged him to come to support a friend of his, and he didn't even choose to show? What a loser.
Sasuke pressed on, scanning past the branded shirts and faces covered in paint. "XO" was printed everywhere on every thing, it slowly started to become a blur of colours.
Purple, red and pink spotlights lit every room in the stadium, music from the band blasting from the speakers, every song was instrumental to tease the fans flooding in as the concert time grew closer. Sasuke's head spun with all of the stimulus.
Suddenly a strong arm wrapped around his shoulder, a familiar burst of laughter relaxed him just enough. He actually decided to show, hm? Could have come on time. Loser.
"Whatdya think, Sasuke?! This place is packed!- oh, I got you some freebies too. I figured you'd get lost, 'tebayo"
Sasuke scoffed, taking the bag from Naruto. It was similar to one of the showbags you'd get as a child, but featured a near gruesome image instead of a typical cartoon character. A skeleton covered in branches and cherry blossoms, it was posed like it was praying. He preferred the cuter stuff, the stuff that wouldn't give him nightmares.
"My friend drew that, yknow! She designs a lot of the merch stuff for the band. Oh! Also! You hear that drumming? That's her too! Oh, oh! And-"
Naruto continued to rant while dragging Sasuke off, assumingly to where they'd sit for the show. Naruto said something about VIP tickets and being close to the action a few days ago, so they'd be able to see and hear everything the best. A perk of being "The Lead Singers Best Friend and Little Brother Figure" he said.
The hallway leading to the entrance was just as packed as the room with the booths. Black shirts with a symbol of "XO" interlocking printed in crimson, similar ones with a purple moon cycle on the front, one fan even had their own shirt with a design drawn with bleach. Whoever this friend of Naruto's was, they were very good at drawing a crowd.
Naruto flashed a card to the bouncer minding the doors, and much to everyone's disgust and rage, they were let in just a few minutes early.
With no need to be mindful of others, Naruto raced down to their seats, while Sasuke paid closer attention to the scenery. The room was lit only at the seats, the stage was shrouded in darkness, the leg of a mic stand could hardly be seen poking out from under the curtain. Even if he squinted, there wasn't much to behold.
When he reached his friend, he looked at their slightly separated seats. Two more bags sat at their legs, each with unique designs. More freebies, he guessed.
Naruto jumped into his seat and urged Sasuke to join him. Sasuke sighed. Despite being nineteen, almost twenty, Naruto still acted like a complete child. How can someone with a drivers licence, fully capable of purchasing alcohol and cigarettes, be this obnoxious and shameless? He sat without argument, though.
Before he knew it, the doors opened and fans started pouring in. Sasuke glanced behind him out of curiosity; every seat was filled, and everyone was restless in their seats with excitement. Amongst them all, though, was the last person he'd expect to see there. Nara Shikamaru, a former classmate of theirs, was sitting in a signed jacket with an unfamilar glisten in his eyes.
"He's a massive simp for the guitarist," Naruto whispered, catching where Sasuke's eyes sat. "He fought off like, three guys for that jacket."
Sasuke snorted and shook his head, turning his attention to the stage when the lights shut off.
The stadium grew silent, the lack of light felt like a void. Sasuke's arms started forming goosebumps from the atmosphere.
A soft beat settled in through the speakers, the sound of the curtain reeling back made people inch closer to the edge of their seats. A hooded figure walked up to centre stage, bringing their arms up above their head and forming an 'X' with their arms in sync with the spotlight shining on them. Bright red illuminated the figure, revealing a punk-eqsue outfit with belts being a consistent theme, but their face remained unknown. They started a hard beat by stomping their boot on the stage, which was followed by fans clapping to it.
A second figure joined the first, cloaked much the same, but their guitar adding a much different silhouette. They pulled it off their back and lifted it up, the body of the guitar facing to the ceiling. The lights turned off and a purple LED light was shon onto it, revealing a fluorescent purple circle on the back. Together, their symbols formed 'XO'.
After a moment, music started pouring from the speakers around the stadium and a clear spotlight lit the stage, allowing full sight to the audience. They dropped their symbols and pulled the cloaks off in unison.
'O' was clearly the older of the two. A tall woman with lightly tanned skin, features sharp and almost deadly. Her hair was dry, parted quite messily into four parts, part of her bangs nearly covering her right eye. 'X' seemed much more friendly, smiling wide to the whole crowd. From the looks of it, she had no instrument. She lacked a mic on her earpiece as well.
The two women were dressed with a theme, both with their own symbolism. 'X' wore a red jacket with two crosses on her arms and black gloves. The small belts around her thighs were wrapped unevenly. Two on one, three on the other. 'O' was much similar, although her jacket was black, made from a thick leather and had purple moons running down the sleeves. Her jeans were ripped at the knees and her boots were covered in the same belts.
Sasuke furrowed his brows and squinted, focusing on the finer details of the first part of the band. Her hair was a familiar shade of pink, thick and clearly unconditioned, and her eyes were a deep emerald green. He swore he knew her, but he couldn't put the name to the face.
She pulled a microphone from a pouch on her hip, spinning it in her hand while more music kicked in. She raised her fist and everyone focused on her.
"Good evening Konoha!! How's everyone feeling tonight!?"
The audience roared in respose, Sasuke needing to take a moment to cover his ears. He glanced over to Naruto who sat unfazed. He too was focused on the woman in red. She must be the friend he always talked about.
"That's great to hear! Are you all ready to go?!"
Another roar came, but Sasuke took focus to her speech.
"Hell yeah!! That's what I like to hear! First things first though... Temari, sound check!"
Her voice was familiar too. Deeper than most women Sasuke had met, and rougher too, as if she'd had a broken nose before. However, there was a softness to it. A kindness. It almost sounded like...
"On it, Sakura."
Sasuke didn't hear the next sounds to come. He leaned back in his chair, staring blankly in the direction of the stage. Sakura? Haruno Sakura? That's her?!
Temari smiled at her partner, flipping the guitar so the strings faced their fans and pulled the strap above her head. The body was painted a shiny black with purple lightning like strikes going across it, a job clearly done at home, but not by her. She pulled a pick from her jacket and struck the cords, the sound alone made the floor shake, and the following cheer broke Sasuke out of his trance.
"All right!!! Sounds good! Lets get this show started, shall we?!"
The two women backed up to the middle of the stage, the lights dimming to prepare for their first song. A cold silence filled the room, the speakers dying down as sound technicians prepared the track, Sasuke squinted to take in more features.
Despite the darkness, the white of her teeth shone through. She smiled with a joy she never had during their highschool years together. Her academics were her highest priority, fitness came next, and lastly was her crushes. She'd always smile wide when her test scores were high, or she had scored big during extracurricular sports, but nothing compared to this.
A warm spotlight hit them as the music began, Temari's guitar the only live instrument. It was an up beat rhythm, vaguely following the rock genre they were going for. Sakura nodded and loosely danced as she found the rhythm in herself, her voice powerfully hitting the mic when she started to sing, although it was more of a rap than anything else.
Sasuke stared with his mouth hung loosely open. Sakura's energy grew with the song, her movements becoming sharper and more pronounced as she found moves to her words, her hair and jacket adding secondary motion that flowed so smoothly with her body. Sasuke's legs grew weak, sinking into his chair as he watched as closely as his eyes could. It was mesmerising.
Sakura's eyes danced over the audience. Her smile grew when she saw her close people in the crowd, Sasuke could only see Naruto, but he was certain someone like Sakura would have a lot of friends. Her eyes moved from left to right, eventually meeting his at the centre.
Her smile fell, but her voice didn't. Sasuke couldn't tell if it was disbelief, disappointment or disgust, but Sakura didn't stop her performance. She focused her gaze to the wall, finishing the song before meeting his eyes again.
He felt his cheeks begin to burn under her gaze. The soft shimmer in her eyes, the gentle curl of her lips... it had been many years since she looked at him like that. Sasuke missed it dearly, her eyes filled with adoration and love. He felt like a complete fool for rejecting her love once.
Their eyes locked for what felt like hours. Sasuke's focus never once leaving her eyes or her smile, even when she turned away. She was still working, afterall. Sasuke would have to wait, and he would wait an eternity just to have her look at him once more.
The second song began to play through the speakers, fans cheering and shouting as they recognised what it was, and although Sasuke was clueless, he was just as excited to hear it.

ooc but enjoy it just for funsies🤗 Also no war or anything super extreme in this au just bc
I want to make a take on spiraling teen Sasuke with a older reader (like five to six years) and they share a platonic relationship bc god knows this boy NEEDS some family bonding
(this one has a touch of comedy if you will bc I find it hilarious when character A is batshit insane and the other is literally just a person trying to live their lives like "what the hell is bro even ON dawg ;;;")
I'm thinking the reader took care of him while he was still part of the village because they were neighbors after he moved in by himself. Maybe even went after him when he left, but ultimately they lost contact after he pushed them away.
Now the reader's settled down outside the village with their partner and found a home for themselves, enjoying the day-to-day stuff.
Then here comes Sasuke,
He's still a teen at heart even if he acts tough so he'd come up with some ridiculous reasoning for bringing the reader back to him after he lost itachi
They are the reason he's feeling this way.
If it wasn't for their ridiculous gestures of running their fingers through his hair when he couldn't sleep, if it wasn't for how warm their body felt against his while sitting side by side in silence reassuring him he wasn't alone when he didn't even know he needed it, if it wasn't for their annoying nagging to make sure he had actually eaten something, if it wasn't for their gentle tending to his wounds after training, if it wasn't for them letting him stay over and calling it a home, if it wasn't for their words of comfort about how it wasn't his fault because he was merely a child when everything happened, if it wasn't for how they emphasized that it's okay for him to act his age sometimes and to live his own life, if it wasn't their entire existence then he wouldn't be acting like this.
It was their fault.
The reason his head aches, the reason he feels so cold it almost prickles his skin like needles, the reason he can't sleep now that he's alone, the reason the food is so bland and tasteless he barely keeps it down, the reason his heart twists with the feeling of betrayal now that they found someone else to take care of and a home. A home that doesn't include him.
It doesn't matter that he's the one who pushed them away to begin with and rejected every attempt to save him from himself. They are not by his side and that's just wrong.
Now that Itachi is gone the reader is the only person that will give him a chance to stand on solid ground again as everything else around him caves in. His unhealthy attachment is a consequence of their actions and years of being trauma therefore they should take responsibility.
-
Meanwhile the reader is just there like "Um...🧍 Alright...But couldn't you have just...visited? Or contacted me? instead of kidnapping me? in broad daylight?!"
I totally see him just snatching the reader away in the middle of the day after everything with itachi was over and trauma dumping about everything with no previous notice
What I really like about this dynamic in specific is because it could have such a comical but sweet ending where the reader sort of "adopts" Sasuke since he's literally just a lonely kid with no place to go or the emotional maturity to actually process his emotions, let alone express them, in a healthy way unless someone gives him a hand besides he won't leave them alone anyway it's best to keep him where they can see supervise him.
Not to mention it would be so goofy to have the reader trying to keep his insanity to a minimum and get his anxiety to calm down
+ Reader feeling down over a completely normal fight with a friend and needing to convince Sasuke we do not, in fact, kill, torture or threat people bc of it:
"Fighting with your friends sometimes is normal. What's important is to talk it out and make sure you understand each other. Not kidnapping. Not giving the cold shoulder. Not disappearing. Talking. Understand?"
"...Hm." (he disagrees)
+ Sasuke feeling left out by having to stay in an empty room so the reader's partner is forced to sleep alone bc of a fussy teen that wants to share rooms like before
+ Sasuke who is petty towards the reader's partner out of jealousy for their attention (and to prove his worth) but will never admit it
"Look at that. Absolutely useless. You seriously picked that to marry? I've already finished my tasks and they're still in bed.🙄"
"...It's 4 am....on a Sunday. Go back to sleep for god's sake-"
+ Reader leaving early for the market with their partner ONCE without telling Sasuke since he doesn't sleep much and Sasuke immediately assuming he was left behind when he wakes up so now he WILL go to every grocery shopping trip
He's like the stray cat that scratches you then complains it's not receiving any pets hahaha
anyway, let that boy actually act his age for once and be happy even if he's a lil weird 🙏
- Toxic brainrot anon xx
Wait... why has this never came to mind before?! 😭
Tbh, you elaborated it so beautifully and in detail, that I don't even know if there is something to add. <3
All I can say is that I keep imagining all the comedic situations that would arise once Sasuke moves in with the reader and their partner, haha.
I totally agree that he would be jealous for the reader's attention and quite possessive of them as well, even if he won't admit it. He would use any chance to take a jab at their partner - during breakfast; when reader goes to shower/refresh themselves; during movie nights; on the way to the market etc. Of course, when reader is present his blows would be "softer" than usual, but if it's only the two of them he won't hold back.
Reader: "That is not how you treat people, Sasuke. Give them a chance, they are honestly a great person!"
Sasuke: "Hn." (turns around and leaves)
....
Also the eye-rolling... Sassy Sasuke in the building, haha!! He would probably constantly roll his eyes and let out huffs and puffs when reader's partner is talking. And God forbid they try to reader out on a date, so it can be just the two of them... Sasuke would just tag along and he wouldn't even feel bad about it.
He would be so clingy, it would be both kind of cute and annoying. In his mind, it is completely justified tho - after all, in an ideal world it would be only him and reader and they would leave in a small cottage, away from people (and especially from reader's partner!) where they can finally have a peaceful and somewhat normal life.
Anyway, I am rambling, but I just love this idea soooo much <3
Thank you for sending, toxic brainrot anon! 💙

"It was as if someone had handed me the moon, and what does one do with the moon? What does one do with a life when one had expected to be dead?"
Marya Hornbacher, Waiting
Tumblr media
At first glance, Kakashi's room was sparse of anything but a few pictures and a small potted plant in the window. It was the opposite of Sakura's room, which was teeming with decor and testaments to things she was interested in before she was taken. Seeing it had been like seeing a version of Sakura that you'd never had the chance to meet. A happier version.
But Kakashi's room gave little away.
You weren't exactly sure what you were seeking from Kakashi, and you almost wished he'd suggest something for you to do. You were standing awkwardly by the door as the man gathered a few books from his bed and set them aside. You eyed the newly-emptied space and wondered if it was too late to back out the door and shut yourself in your room.
But the thought of being alone again made your stomach twist in fear rather than nervousness. This was easy compared to the idea of dreaming of Orochimaru again. You were having trouble coping with the hold that he still had on you in your dreams.
"You can sleep in the bed, if you'd like. I can sleep on the floor, or–"
"No, don't. I'm imposing on you, I shouldn't take your bed too."
You both eyed the rather sizable space on the mattress, and you were sure that Kakashi was turning over the same idea that you were. Sharing a bed didn't seem all that different from sleeping together in the tent, but this wasn't something you were doing out of necessity. This was born out of fear and crippling solitude.
"I...don't want you to do anything you're not comfortable with."
Were you comfortable with Kakashi? It felt like you were, but you couldn't remember when exactly that shift had taken place. On the mission, when you'd accepted that you had to rely on him to watch your back? Or at his house when you spent nights getting a few hours of light sleep on the couch with him.
Admittedly, his bed looked much more comfortable than his couch.
"It's fine," you took a hesitant step towards his bed, glaring at it like it was an obstacle, "I don't mind."
He clearly didn't believe you, but he shrugged, slipped under his covers, and picked his book back up. No expectations or demands, but not a rejection either. It was a new type of kindness that made something in your chest loosen.
You slipped carefully under the covers on the opposite side of the bed, leaving enough room so that you wouldn't shift and touch Kakashi in your sleep.
The mattress sank with your added weight, and you turned on your side to face Kakashi, eyes cracked open. As much as you wanted to avoid looking at him for fear of getting flustered, you still couldn't bring yourself to put your back to someone who wasn't Sakura. This was all so new. Trusting someone enough to keep them out of sight while you slept was one too many obstacles for the night.
But your quick heartbeat wasn't the same as it had been during your panic attack. It wasn't a feeling that threatened to consume you. It was just a reminder that you were in close proximity to Kakashi.
You were starting to accept that there was something about being in his presence that made sleeping through the night peaceful. That something also seemed to make the logical side of your mind shut down.
Tumblr media
That night, Kakashi woke up gasping for air.
He knew that being next to you wouldn't give him a one-hundred percent success rate for restful nights, but he'd at least hoped that he wouldn't have to deal with waking from a nightmare in front of you so soon. Maybe after you'd both gotten used to this arrangement (one that he selfishly hoped would last longer than one night).
Obito's face still lingered in front of him, and he shook away the unwanted images of his friends dead, all because he wasn't strong enough to keep them safe.
"You okay?"
He glanced down at you and chuckled at the unfamiliar picture of your eyes barely open and your face pressed against a pillow. He should've figured that you'd be a light sleeper. Next time he'd have to try and control himself after waking up. You hadn't come here just to be burdened by his nightmares.
"Yeah," he sighed, "sorry, I'm alright. Go back to sleep."
He let out a heavy sigh, resting his head in his hands and squeezing his eyes shut. He had to keep it together. At least until you had fully adjusted.
"If you want to talk about it," you said quietly, voice still groggy, "I don't mind."
He laughed, looking down at you with a small smile.
"You don't look happy to be awake right now."
"I can be awake," you shrugged. He started to protest when you shifted, but you waved him off and settled on your side.
"Lay down," you muttered, more of a suggestion than anything else, but he didn't hesitate to do as you asked. "Hold out your hand."
Again, with little hesitation and almost no thought of your motives, he extended his hand until it was midway between you and him. You mirrored the movement, and he froze from shock alone when you hooked your pinkie around his. He wondered if it was just exhaustion that was making you act without thinking, but you seemed a bit more aware now. Maybe you were just becoming comfortable with his presence faster than he'd expected.
"I used to do this with Sakura," you whispered with a fond smile. "She was troublesome. Whenever I messed up and got thrown in a cell overnight, she would always make sure she ended up there with me. There were grates between each cell with just enough space for us to do this. She wanted me to know that I wasn't alone."
Kakashi felt his chest ache at the idea of you and Sakura being imprisoned in the place that was supposed to be your home. The image of Sakura deliberately putting herself there just to do then what you were doing for him now made the gesture feel much more significant. It almost felt sacred.
"It made me feel at ease," you whispered, eyes barely open, "how do you feel now?"
In all honesty, his heart was still racing. But images of bloody bodies and comrades lost weren't haunting him anymore. He gave a hum in response and closed his eyes, focusing on the warm point of contact between you. He felt that warmth spread through the rest of his body and lull him to sleep.
He only slept for a few more hours, but he woke well-rested and found that he had an easier time fending off unwanted memories than the last time he'd jolted awake.
He also felt a strange, unfamiliar weight on his arm.
You hadn't woken yet, but you had moved at some point in the few hours since you'd both fallen asleep. Instead of just holding on to his pinkie, you had grabbed his hand and pulled it towards you, hugging his arm and tucking it into your chest.
He felt his heartbeat pick up again. He sat completely still, afraid that moving would wake you up.
He thought he'd seen what you looked like when you were at peace when you slept during the mission. Even when you spent nights on the couch, you seemed to be sleeping peacefully. Now, you almost looked happy. He swore that he saw a small smile on your face, though that could've just been his mind playing tricks on him.
He thought back to when Sakura was younger and small enough that he could lift her on his shoulders. At that age, she liked the feeling of being surrounded in a hug. He always wondered if it was the reassurance that nothing could get to her that was appealing.
Kakashi had spent his fair share of nights trying to chase away nightmares of her parents' deaths by hugging her close and keeping her tucked under his chin. He couldn't imagine that her nightmares improved while she was in the Red Room. It was likely that you had taken over for him and spent nights keeping Sakura close to try and unburden her of her fears.
Maybe you'd gotten used to having something to hold. Maybe being deprived of that now was taking more of a toll on you than you realized.
He did his best to keep still, but a few moments later, your grip on his arm and hand tightened enough that he knew you'd woken up. He glanced up and met your eyes, though you looked more confused than anything else.
"Mm..." you sucked in a breath, looking down at where you were holding Kakashi's hand. Realization dawned on you at the same moment that you threw it back at him, your confusion morphing into horror, "I'm so sorry. I didn't even realize–"
"It's alright."
"I didn't mean to...make you uncomfortable or anything."
"You didn't."
"Oh," you huffed, turning on your back and staring up at the ceiling, "okay. Good."
He wanted to ask if you remembered waking up last night, either to give you some peace of mind that he'd been perfectly comfortable with you touching him or to determine whether or not it was drowsiness that made you so open to comforting him. But you looked embarrassed enough as it was, so he kept his mouth shut.
"Thank you for letting me stay here," you said quietly, "I appreciate it."
"Anytime."
You nodded, giving him a small, half-hearted smile before you were on your feet and heading towards the door. He sat up and watched you go, searching for the right words.
"I mean it," he rushed out before you could rush out. You glanced back, expression unreadable, "really. You can sleep here anytime you want."
It shouldn't have been this hard to talk to someone, but he felt himself second-guessing all of his words just to make sure they were the right ones. He wanted to figure out how to talk to you in a way that made you feel at peace.
"Okay," you nodded, "thank you."
He didn't expect you to accept his offer, but that night, you were in front of his door once again.

Two weeks later
Sakura woke up far earlier than she would've liked with stiff limbs and excess energy to burn off. Her room had enough space that she could stretch out on the floor and try to loosen up, but she still felt an ache in her legs that she knew was a result of cutting off her training so abruptly after her escape. She had gotten used to an intense daily routine in the Red Room, and while it wasn't the most pleasant form of training, she almost missed starting her mornings with activity.
It had been nearly two months since she was given permission by her doctors to spar. And while she didn't want to bother you to train with her, Naruto and Sasuke wouldn't be as much fun. They didn't know the tricks and techniques that she'd learned in the four years that she'd been gone, and they'd have to take time to get used to her new fighting style. That morning, she found herself itching for a challenge.
Your room was only one door down from hers, and she hadn't pondered much on the habitual silence coming from it day after day since you'd returned. She knew that you were light on your feet, but around her you weren't as careful. You'd never felt the need to hide your presence from her. She helped you get used to the idea that you were allowed to take up space. That you didn't need to conceal your presence like a ghost everywhere you went.
When she opened the door and peaked into your room, she was only slightly concerned to find it empty. In fact, it looked untouched. She didn't even see your small bag of clothes next to the bed where you usually kept it.
Were you out? No, you wouldn't have left without telling her. Maybe you were already in the gym? Did you go for a run? Were you making breakfast? It was five in the morning, no one was up yet and the compound was silent. She could hear her own footsteps echoing in the hallway; she would've heard you if you were wandering around.
She didn't start worrying until she had stopped in all of the main rooms of the compound and found them vacant.
It wasn't like you to disappear without a word. You knew how worried she'd get if you left without telling her, so she was confident that if you had left of your own volition, she would've been the first to know. That left one option: you had been taken. Maybe HYDRA had taken you, or SHIELD had found out that you were staying here.
In her panic, she realized that she needed to tell Kakashi-sensei that you had disappeared. While there were quite a few plausible explanations for your absence, all of them seemed less likely than the worst-case scenarios. Sakura wasn't used to not knowing where you were, and it was making her panic grow by the second.
She sprinted down the hall, mind racing through possible explanations faster than she could keep up with them, and her panic had grown enough by the time she reached Kakashi's room that she disregarded any need for privacy.
"Kakashi-sensei," she gasped as she opened his door, swinging it against the wall with a bang, "I can't find..."
Oh.
"Uh..."
What? What?
You were...in Kakashi-sensei's room. You were in Kakashi-sensei's bed. Kakashi-sensei was in the shower and the door was shut, and you were sitting under his covers like you had slept there. Had you slept there? What was going on?
Sakura felt like she had fallen into an alternate universe.
You were staring at Sakura like she was a ghost. In fact, she wasn't sure she had ever seen that expression on your face before. She had seen worry and fear, but never this mix of shock and embarrassment. She wished she had a camera.
"What are you doing here?" you said through grit teeth after a long silence. You glanced between Sakura standing shocked in the hallway and the closed bathroom door where the shower was still running.
"What am I doing here?" Sakura let out a disbelieving laugh, "what are you doing here? Does Kakashi-sensei know that you're in his room?"
"Wha-of course he does! It's not what you think, nothing is going on, but you need to leave! You can't just walk into people's rooms!" you said. You looked like you were aging years in the seconds that Sakura was standing in the doorway. You glanced back with a groan when the shower cut off, "Go, go, we'll talk later."
You stood from the bed and practically tackled her through the door. She stumbled back with a disbelieving laugh, a mix of shock and glee on her face.
"We will talk about this later," you repeated calmly, though you still looked mortified, "Just...go back to sleep or something. Do not tell the others."
The door slammed before she could say anything else, and it took her about a minute to move from in front of it. Her paralysis lasted until she heard you shuffle back to bed, and it reminded her that you weren't only sleeping in Kakashi-sensei's room, you were sleeping in his bed. She still hadn't quite recovered from the shock, and processing what she had just seen seemed like a monumental task. How had she not noticed?
Sakura nearly sprinted away from the room, rushing down the hall and opening Naruto's door in the same abrupt fashion as she had Kakashi-sensei's.
"Naruto," Sakura whispered, hoping that you hadn't hear her scampering away from Kakashi-sensei's room, "Naruto! Wake up!"
"Huh...wha-? Sakura, wha's goin' on?"
Naruto's face was pressed into his pillow, and he looked like he had no intention of getting up despite Sakura's urgent tone.
"Naruto, come on," she grinned, shaking the boy, "Y/N is in Kakashi-sensei's room."
Naruto shot up at her words, fully awake and staring at her with wide eyes. She nodded when he gave her a disbelieving laugh, grin growing wider.
"No way," he laughed again, and Sakura slapped a hand over his mouth when he opened it again.
"She'll hear you, dummy! We have to be quiet!"
Naruto looked at her wide-eyed, nodding against her hand and waiting patiently for her to deem him ready to be released.
Sasuke's room was a bit more intimidating than Naruto's, and Sakura found herself calming enough to knock quietly at his door. He opened it a moment later, rubbing his eyes and glaring at Sakura and Naruto tiredly.
"It's five in the morning," he grumbled, then perked up, "is something wrong?"
"No," Sakura shook her head at the same time that Naruto gleefully said, "yes!"
Sasuke looked unimpressed.
"Y/N is in Kakashi-sensei's room!"
While Kakashi-sensei had trained his charges extensively in stealth, they seemed to forget all of their lessons as they stumbled down the hall to his room. Naruto couldn't stop giggling as he raced down the hall, and Sasuke looked more shocked that Sakura had ever seen him.
This was new and very exciting territory. Kakashi-sensei had never had a...
A what? A girlfriend? The idea of you being someone's girlfriend felt wrong to Sakura; it was so...normal.
"What do we do?" Naruto whispered, backing away from Kakashi's door like it was a wild animal.
"There's no way this is happening," Sasuke whispered, head in his hands and voice very distressed, "what is going on?"
"This is weird, right?" Naruto whispered nervously, "I mean, we're just...sitting outside of his room."
"We need answers!" Sakura grinned. "This has never happened before. I mean, Kakashi-sensei? No one ever sleeps in his room with him!"
When had this happened? She was wracking her brain to create a timeline of events, but she was coming up empty. Maybe something had changed on the mission.
That would be so romantic.
Footsteps sounded on the other side of the door, and she heard you mumbling something to Kakashi as you approached.
"Hide!" Sakura whispered, though not as quietly as she would've liked. All three of them stumbled to their feet, and Sakura groaned at their luck when Naruto tripped over Sasuke and took both of them down. She grabbed them by the back of their shirts and tried dragging them to their feet and out of sight, but the door clicked open before she could begin moving them at all.
"Jesus," you gasped, backing away from the three with a hand over your chest. Sakura supposed they probably looked like a comedy skit, all tangled up on the floor and looking at you like deer in headlights.
"What?" Kakashi said from out of sight. When he appeared, Sakura almost laughed.
He was wearing a fluffy grey robe that was tied tightly around his waist. His hair was dripping from the shower, and he was maskless.
"No way," Sasuke muttered again, followed by a delighted laugh from Naruto.
There was a long moment when the five of you just stared at one another. Then Kakashi nudged you out of the way, grabbed the door, and slammed it shut.
"What are you doing?" you hissed at him. He was red to the tops of his ears, and he was looking just about anywhere to avoid meeting your eyes. "Now they'll be even more suspicious!"
"I was caught off guard!" he whispered back, voice low enough that the kids would only be able to hear if they were pressed against door. The thought had you glancing at the shadows under the crack of the wood. You narrowed your eyes and kicked it.
"Ow," Naruto shouted, followed by two identical shushes from Sasuke and Sakura. You scowled.
"I'm never going to have a day of peace again," Kakashi grumbled, "they'll never let me live this down."
"Maybe because you slammed the door in their faces. You look like a teenager who was caught by their parents."
"I've never had to deal with this before!" he threw his hands in the air, "even if it's just for nightmares, they'll be insufferable. All of the questions..."
His face fell into lethargic horror at the thought.
"Don't be dramatic," you huffed. You opened the door in one swing and glared down at the three brats falling at your feet. Sakura met your glare with an innocent smile.
"Good morning," she smiled. You glared harder, "it's lovely out today. Wanna go on a walk?"
"No," you grumbled, "I want peace."
"We want answer-mmhp," Naruto shouted over Sakura shoulder, cut off by her hand blindly slapping backwards and landing over his mouth. She held it there and gave you another innocent smile.
"Listen, all three of you. I will say this one time and one time only."
The kids all froze, and you even noticed Kakashi stop in his tracks to look at you.
"I have nightmares, and being next to someone at night helps. That's all."
"Aw man," Naruto grumbled, turning towards Sasuke, "we thought Kakashi-sensei had a girlfriend."
"Hey," Kakashi stuck his head through the door, now fully dressed and slightly less red than before, "all of you go run three miles."
"Wha–, sensei," Sakura groaned, "what were we supposed to think? You were practically naked–"
"Four miles."
"But–"
"Five."
"Fine, fine, geez."
Naruto and Sakura sulked towards the gym, but Sasuke paused and gave you a long glance. It didn't hold any of his previous coldness; now it was just curiosity that lingered in his gaze. Once he was apparently satisfied with his observation, he glanced at Kakashi and tilted his head, then turned and followed Sakura and Naruto down the hall.
"Good morning," you muttered to a wide-eyed Kakashi. He looked like he had gone into overdrive, and you imagined he was picturing the horrors that would come that day as a result of this incident. Five miles wouldn't do much good to deter them from being insufferable.
"Right," Kakashi sighed, "great morning. Once I leave this room, I'll live the rest of my life being tortured."
"Oh, please," you waved his concerns away, "how bad could they be?"
"You clearly haven't spent enough time with all three of them together," Kakashi mumbled, "they feed off of one another. They're evil."
"Dramatic," you repeated, glaring pointedly at the mask that he was pulling over his nose. He shrugged.
When you left Kakashi's room, it didn't take long for you to run into Naruto. He was standing in the doorway that led into the gym, watching Sakura and Sasuke spar disinterestedly. When he saw you next to him, he perked up. It was the first time you'd ever gotten such an enthused reaction from the boy.
"Hey," he looked behind you, presumably for Kakashi, "can I, uh...talk to you?"
Interesting, but not as weird as it would have been if he hadn't just discovered you sleeping in his guardian's room. You leaned against the opposite side of the doorframe and tried to look as open and safe as possible.
"I thought you were supposed to be running?" you asked.
"Nah, Kakashi-sensei's never serious about that stuff," Naruto laughed, and you couldn't help a small smile. Kakashi really was like a father to them, and you desperately hoped Naruto didn't see you and this newfound closeness as a threat to him.
"I just wanted to...ask what your intentions are, I guess? With Kakashi-sensei."
You almost laughed at the question, but Naruto looked dead serious. You glanced at Sakura and Sasuke and saw that they hadn't stopped sparring to look at you and Naruto. So this conversation was likely happening independent of their input.
"I don't have any intentions," you said simply, "what I told you is all there is. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement, that's all."
Naruto didn't look convinced, but he moved on quickly.
"We didn't exactly meet on great terms, but I know from what Sakura's told me and from what I've seen that you're a good person. It's just that...Kakashi-sensei doesn't have that many people that he relies on. He has friends, sure, but they're more like...coworkers. He goes on missions with them, so he always feels like he has a responsibility to keep them safe. He doesn't really let his guard down much. I don't know why, but he doesn't act that way with you."
You weren't sure how you felt about being told that you were unique in someone's eyes. For most of your life, you were simply a cog in a machine. There was nothing about you that differed from your fellow Widows. You were basically a copy of the girls who came before.
"He lets his guard down around you. And he does that with us too, but he's our guardian. I think your presence is like...a reassurance that he can unwind without worrying that someone will get hurt. He's always looking out for us, never letting himself rest, so maybe you can take some of that weight off of him. Keep him from taking on too much."
"I think you're overestimating how much he trusts me."
"No," Naruto smiled, and you tried to reconcile the boy standing in front of you giving you rather wise advice with the one who had come poking around your cell when you first met, "he does. I think it makes him nervous how much he does."
"How can you tell?"
"Dunno," Naruto shrugged, "but we spend every day with him. We notice when things have changed. And all three of us have noticed it. He's more relaxed."
Did he seem more relaxed? You supposed that you hadn't known him before, so you didn't have anything to compare it to, but it was hard to imagine Kakashi being even more vigilant than he already was. You wondered just how much stress he was under on a day-to-day basis.
"Please don't leave," Naruto muttered. Your eyes widened, and you had to stop yourself from letting out a shocked laugh, "if you do, it won't just hurt Sakura. It'll hurt him too. I don't think he even realizes that, but it will. And none of us want to see that happen."
"I don't think–"
"It's true."
"Shit–" you jumped away from Sasuke, who had somehow managed to stand behind you and listen in on the conversation without you noticing, "again? Seriously, this shouldn't keep happening. I'm supposed to be a spy."
"Maybe you're distracted because you're talking about Kakashi-sensei," Sakura said with a sly smile. You narrowed your eyes at her.
"Why would I be distracted?"
"Oh, no reason," she shrugged, taking Naruto and Sasuke by the arms and dragging them back to the middle of the gym, "no reason at all."
Distracted. You weren't easily distracted, and Kakashi was low on the list of people who could throw you off balance. Orochimaru and Kabuto were distracting. Kakashi was just Kakashi. He didn't stop you from breathing. He sometimes made it easier.
That wasn't distraction.
You pushed Sakura's irritatingly cryptic words aside and joined Sasuke next to the mats, watching Naruto have a significant amount of trouble taking Sakura down. Both were laughing, and even Sasuke had a fond smile on his face as he studied the match. You noticed that he was paying more attention to Sakura than Naruto, eyes focused on her footwork as she side-stepped her opponent's attack and knocked him to the ground.
"How come," Naruto panted, stretching out the shoulder that he'd landed on when he fell, "I can't keep up with you anymore? It's not fair."
"How do you think I feel? I miss having sparring partners who can actually put up a fight"
"Hey!"
"Kidding, kidding," Sakura laughed, turning away from a sputtering Naruto. "Oh. good morning, Kakashi-sensei. Sleep well?"
"I slept fine, thank you for asking, Sakura," Kakashi spoke smoothly, no trace of his previous embarrassment in his voice, "and you?"
"Oh, it was a bit lonely," she shrugged, "but I suppose you wouldn't understand that problem."
Sasuke snickered, then became conveniently enraptured by the opposite wall when you glared at him.
"Hey, Kakashi-sensei could take you down!" Naruto told Sakura, pointing at the man excitedly.
"Of course he could," Sakura scoffed, "I didn't train that hard."
She glanced at you, and in some sudden revelation, her eyes widened and she jumped off of the mats. You let her hurriedly push you onto them in her place with just a bit of resistance and a dead expression on your face.
"Spar Kakashi-sensei!"
You gave her a flat look, wholly uninterested in sparring at the moment. You needed breakfast. You were also in the middle of a good part of Icha-Icha, but you'd been too tired last night to keep reading. You'd been looking forward to returning to it all morning.
"I'm tired."
"No, you're not. You slept great."
"You're such a little shit," you grumbled, glaring at her, then at Naruto and Sasuke with equal amounts of contempt, "all of you."
Naruto was grinning and trying to pull an equally as inconvenienced-looking Kakashi onto the mats with you.
"Don't you three want food? I know none of you can cook."
"Cook after!"
"Maybe I won't want to after."
"We'll go out."
All three were watching you and Kakashi eagerly. Sakura looked conflicted, like she was trying to decide who she should place her bets on.
"Did you three finish your five miles?"
"Of course we did!"
"Pretty quick for a couple of short stacks."
"Hey!"
You snickered, ignoring Sakura's glare.
"Fine," Kakashi said, meeting your unimpressed stare with a smile, "but I expect you to observe carefully. You'll be seeing two different fighting styles, so pay close attention to the strengths and weaknesses of both."
"Kakashi-sensei," Naruto groaned, "why does everything have to be training?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, Naruto," Kakashi turned his smile from you to the sulking boy, "would you prefer to write me an essay on this instead?"
"No! Not at all, I'll watch very diligently."
"Good," Kakashi nodded, then turned to you, "well, this feels familiar."
"Right," you scoffed, "because last time was just so much fun."
Sakura was looking between you and Kakashi with wide eyes, and you didn't want to imagine what kinds of assumptions she was making about your comment. You ignored her questioning gaze and steadied yourself in front of your opponent, hands raised in a defensive position.
Kakashi still had his hands in his pockets, and in the split second that you wondered if you should attack first, he was gone.
He's quick, you thought with a scowl, though not quick enough that you couldn't detect his presence behind you. You stepped forward just as his leg attempted to kick yours from under you, and you barely missed getting thrown to the ground as you spun towards him.
You heard a mix of shouts from the kids, and most of them were encouragements for Kakashi as you continuously sidestepped his attacks.
But he was the only one attacking. You were just trying to keep up.
He had you cornered, and you let out a frustrated grunt when you felt your foot hit the edge of the mat. Kakashi barely paused, so you settled on a rather crude attack and leapt at him, grabbing him around the waist and pulling him to the ground.
He landed on his back with a surprised grunt, though it didn't take him long to recover. This time, though, you had the upper hand on him. Your attacks were swifter, but they had less power behind them. One technique that was encouraged in the Red Room was to tire an opponent out with fast attacks until they couldn't counter one with increased strength. It was especially useful for stronger opponents like Kakashi, who used more raw strength in his offense.
The match continued for far longer than you would've liked. You'd thought that you'd have an easier time beating him, but you wondered if he would actually manage to take you down. You were on fairly even footing in terms of skill, you'd known that from the beginning, but you knew enough tricks that you thought you'd have the edge on him.
It seemed you'd underestimated his strategies. It must've been a lingering feeling of superiority over SHIELD that rubbed off on you from Orochimaru.
You were even more surprised when, in your momentary distraction, Kakashi reused his move from the beginning of the fight and swept your legs out from under you. You landed with an oof on the mat, head knocking against it and arm aching where your gunshot wound had almost finished healing. You probably shouldn't have been sparring, but curiosity about Kakashi's skill in close combat took precedent over concern for your still-healing injuries.
"If I hadn't gotten shot," you panted, looking up at Kakashi's pleased expression, "I would've won."
"Of course you would've," he said jovially, mood apparently lifted by his victory. He held out a hand, and you took it begrudgingly, allowing him to haul you to your feet.
You narrowed your eyes at the hushed voices behind you and glanced back at Sakura, who was whispering something in Naruto's ear that made him grin and giggle.
"Did you learn anything useful?" you ruffled her hair, pushing her head to the side playfully and sidestepping her when she tried to shove you.
"Oh, sure," she laughed, "lots of things."
Naruto laughed again, and even Sasuke cracked a small smile.
"You guys are weird," you huffed, stretching your arms above your head and following Kakashi out of the gym.
Tumblr media
Later that night, after you'd successfully finished your Icha-Icha volume and ranted about it extensively to an amused Kakashi, you were pulled into Sakura's room hastily and rather aggressively on your way back to the gym. You stumbled inside on ungraceful feet, tripping over them as you tried to catch yourself. Sakura offered no help; she glanced out into the hall once you were inside, then closed the door quietly behind her.
"You know, you could've just asked if you wanted me in here."
She shrugged, then leapt into her bed and patted the spot next to her in invitation.
"Can I ask you something?" she said once you had settled in on the empty side. You hummed your assent, sitting up and giving her your full attention when you saw how serious her expression looked.
"Are you...happy here?"
The hope in her eyes was so clear that you had to look away. She wanted you to say yes more than anything, but it wasn't that simple. happiness was never that simple, especially when you had never really thought about your own happiness at any point in your life. It had never been enough of a priority.
Now that you thought about it, you weren't even sure what it meant to be happy. How were you supposed to tell? How could you even give her a truthful answer without knowing it for yourself?
"I...don't know," you told her honestly. Her hopeful expression didn't fade, and she nodded like she had been expecting that answer. "I'm comfortable. I feel safe here."
She smiled, and you couldn't help but mirror it. You hadn't realized how much you missed spending time with Sakura; it had been a while since you'd been able to sit down and talk like this, just the two of you. You realized somberly that it was the first time you'd been able to do it outside of the Red Room.
"You're smiling a lot more," she told you happily. You looked at her, brows furrowed. Had you smiled more? You didn't feel all that different, but you supposed that the person you'd been when you escaped with her was a far cry from who you were becoming. It hadn't even been long, and she already saw that much change?
But now that you thought about it, you saw the change too. Your nightmares were becoming more infrequent, and you no longer felt the constant pull of the Red Room and of Orochimaru's promises. They appeared to you as a distant memory; a thing of the past.
You tried to remember when you'd stopped assuming that you would eventually go back. When you'd accepted that you were no longer a Widow.
You wondered when you had become okay with that fact.
"I'm so happy," Sakura laughed, silent tears rolling down her cheeks, "none of it even feels real."
"What do you mean?"
"This," she motioned towards you vaguely, then towards the door where you could hear Naruto and Sasuke talking to Kakashi from the lounge, "you being here. Everyone being safe. For the first time in almost five years, I'm surrounded by people I care about. And you're smiling so much, I just..."
Her words were becoming more strained, like she was trying to keep herself from bursting into tears. You reached towards her on instinct, and she was quick to lean into you and wrap her arms around your waist. She was crying quietly into your chest, gripping your shirt and muffling the sounds of her cries in the fabric. You buried a hand in her hair and tucked her head under your chin in a familiar set of movements.
"I'm so happy," she cried quietly, pulling you closer and sniffling. You rubbed her back, unsure of how to respond. You felt something swell in your chest; this was the first time that Sakura had cried in your arms because of something good happening. The last time she'd done it, it was because you were leaving. You had been reassigned after your mission together, and her terrified cries often haunted your nightmares.
"I...I think I'm happy," you whispered. She paused; it almost felt like her breathing had stopped. "and I want to stay. I am staying. If...if you and the others will have me."
"Of course," she laughed, though it sounded more like a sob as she tackled you to the bed. You chuckled, wrapping your arms around her and relishing in the lightness in your chest. It was such a new feeling. It was freeing. Maybe that was what happiness felt like.
If it was, it was something that you wanted to get used to.

okay, I’m not a gatekeeper. I swear I’m not. But I genuinely cannot help but be irked when I see a hinata fan latch themselves onto characters like Neji or Sasuke. Pretending like they ~totally~ understand their characters while also horribly misrepresenting them and characterizing them like they’re from a fanfiction. Talking about how noo sasuke would love hinata if he really got to know her! He’s just so cold and unfeeling that a character like hinata could really bring out a nice side to him!1!1!1 Neji is a victim of this too but in a slightly lesser degree as most hinata fans don’t bother to ship them openly as they’re related. But that won’t stop them from characterizing Neji as someone completely and utterly obsessed with hinata to the point he grovels at her feet and is possessive of her like a “big brother.” Because if hinata called him her big brother when he died then that totally makes them siblings! Who cares if neji considers himself that! Hinata said so1!11!1!
god I dunno. Maybe I’m just being selfish in the idea I just want hinata Stans to stay tf away from Neji and Sasuke because if you like hinata and her character, there is absolutely zero chance you will be able to understand Neji or Sasuke.
Well, I don't see an issue with liking a character by itself and proclaiming yourself a fan of the rest (I'm a big fan of Ino Yamanaka and Sasuke Uchiha, two characters that stand in opposite corners thematically), yet this can be sustained as long as we respect their canonical characterizations and understand that not everything about a character is "good" or has to be justified. As for the core of your complaint, I agree, as many of these arguments are sustained on the premise of giving Hinata more relevance (romantically or politically); something that she canonically does not possess and that neither of the two previously mentioned male characters are interested in giving her.
Hinata's sole purpose as a character was based on being Neji's polar opposite during his arc (the Chünin exams are relevant to Neji, not Hinata, who is a supporting character to him) and being Naruto's admirer on certain occasions. That's it, at no point was she even mentioned or observed by Sasuke, and any narrative weight she might have carried disappeared when Neji himself was no longer necessary for Naruto's growth.
Neji's problem isn't just with Hinata (I'm surprised to have to clarify something specifically mentioned in the manga and anime), but with the entire main Hyüga family; which is why his arc doesn't close until Hiashi (not Hinata), apologizes.
As for Sasuke, I wouldn't spend any more time thinking about it since the sole reason for his involvement lies in a desire for romantic reciprocity from the most attractive and powerful character in the manga (at the thought of an offspring with both Byakugan and Sharingan, despite the fact that the Sharingan is infinitely superior to the Byakugan). If with Neji's arc, Hinata possessed almost zero thematic relevance, with Sasuke - with whom she not only never interacts but in his eyes, she's part of the caste he seeks to eradicate, then her incidence is extremely nil.
I've never written a post about SasuHina/HinaSasu, and in part, I refuse because their canonical possibility really is nil, so there's nothing more to analyze than headcanons and fanfictions that have their own rules, which have little to do with Kishimoto's material.
Perhaps in the future, I'll dedicate a post to that pairing discussing some of its more famous theories; like how Hinata, being a character considered by the fandom as "sensitive", could understand and help Sasuke despite the fact that she was never seen comforting or trying to understand any character other than Naruto; going as far as to dismiss her cousin's emotions in order to put herself as a victim of the system on the same level as her cousin, whom her father enslaved.
Hinata being shy is not the same as her being "good" or "sensitive", Sakura used to be shy during her childhood and was bullied for it, yet Hinata stans don't usually consider Sakura to be a good person...
Here are some posts about Hinata and Neji's relationship:

Team 7 introductions are like:
Naruto: I want to obtain POWER so I can force people to look at me like an actual human being and not a monster, haha! They won't ignore me or isolate me anymore! They're gonna BEG ME and put their lives on my hands and— Oh and ramen. All the ramen. And maybe prove to everyone that they are dumb ass fuck for not believing in me? Yeah, prove them wrong, that's cool! And and and Iruka-sensei is cool! I'm so happy when someone does the bare minimum and respects my life and acknowledges the fact that I'm just a kid and that I'm suffering (one of) the craziest discrimination acts applied by our government Hokage...
Sakura: you know how the first real goal I got like the first thing I wanted for myself after years of being bullied and being nobody and wanting to disappear was the affection of this boy? Well, all these other girls think I don't stand a chance and that they'll get the boy, so I'm gonna win the boy and laugh at their faces. Does it mean that I need validation and affection and attention and love? Not, what are you saying, I have a perfect normal life and parents that are totally involved in my life and I am happy! So happy! I wouldn't know what sadness or loneliness is like! Never! I'm normal and totally nothing to worry about!
Sasuke: you'll find that the things you like in life are meaningless when you carry the trauma of being the sole survivor of a genocide committed by the brother you loved and adored. I want him dead which shouldn't be surprising given that we live in a society ruled by violence, right? I hate a lot of things because I'm painfully aware of how miserable our reality is. Since this is my trauma, no one else has the right to do something about it. They certainly didn't seemto have the balls to go after him, even when they call him criminal, so I'm gonna kill Itachi myself. Obsessed you said? Try enjoying life when you know someone can commit genocide and no one would give a fuck and the government won't do a thing. Try caring for others knowing they can get kill any day and you'll have to look the other way. I dare you to.
Kakashi: *most emotionally neglected adult in the village, abandoned as a kid, saw his father do the right thing and get so socially pressured he ended up commiting suicide and the government didn't give a shit, forced to become a perfect weapon at young age to show off the village strength, forced to become an elite assassin as a kid, people in the village widely making fun of his trauma and acting like he's just weird / peculiar and not on the verge of losing his mind for real, a champ at dissociation and a minute more away taking roots in front of the graves of his mistakes because he spent way too much time there in self-punishment, basically the most miserable jounin in the whole village*
Kakashi: hm, I won't let you get to know me or get close to me because everything I touch dies and I don't want to get attachments because you're soldiers and you might die and it doesn't matter that I have history with two of your families and that you all remind every single minute of the boy I watched die and the girl that I killed and the boy used to be. You will never know any of that. I am a whole man with a whole life that you'll never know because I am just your superior here and you must obey me in our missions. I'm definitely not hiding the fact that the village just failed me and set me up to be the one who failed you all in case you get killed or lose your shit once and for all.

Sasuke was going to die for Naruto in the first arc! Sasuke was screaming during VoTE2 because he couldn't kill Naruto calmly! By the end of Naruto he admitted how much their bond means to him! Naruto is the only one he kept in touch with after the show ended! Forget reacting to Naruto's supposed death, he's not even acknowledging it? What in the world...
😭😭 you're SO right..
And we could add to that even many, many other things like Sasuke training so hard to accomplish a goal determinedly and yet Naruto constantly gets in the way because he's his weakness! His focus shifts towards Naruto when he's around distracting him from even his fights resulting in practical mistakes whereas we wouldn't see those otherwise with Sasuke. There are contradictions alright! For example during the reunion. Hugging Naruto.. hug-ging!! Feeding him knowing what the consequences would be for him and his own goal, but not being able to stop himself regardless because.. Na-ru-to!
Tumblr media
Sasuke self sabotages his own goals for the sake of Naruto's tummy rumble. He can't even stand seeing him like that, risking the chances of training as Konoha Shinobi. A belief he has at the time which is the only way that'll make him stronger. He has to lie to Kakashi and Sakura because he's worried for Naruto's safety and it is embarrassing to say it out loud so he says he goes for a walk only to find and scold Naruto who has been training out in the woods and skipping his meal during the LoW-arc.. only for them to come back together arm-in-arm dirty and smiling, having trained together all night ;-;
He goes out of his way multiple times to protect Naruto even at times when it certainly wasn't needed.
Tumblr media
Naruto would've been fine, Sasuke already was in terrible condition and yet.. his body moved on his own to catch him anyway. Pakkun even points it out too.
There is so much dramatics and emotion during scenes with Sasuke where Naruto is mentioned later on too.. even if they're not together. He smiles fondly when he's at the 'Great Naruto bridge', he overreacts when Sai doesn't mind his business, Naruto's resolve.. speaks literal volumes.
Even in 'Gaiden', this is Sasuke's reaction to Naruto getting stabbed:
Tumblr media
even though he knows Naruto would be able to heal easily as Kurama also points out later calling him pathetic (LOL).
If anything... 'Boruto' and certainly Naruto and Sasuke as adults should've progressed and developed even more in any sense- particularly in regard to their bond.
Tbh I was kinda curious to see where 'Boruto' was going with its story because I did see a lot of potential from the first few Chapters. Technology, cheating... there is so much you can do with it!!! Aaaannnddd they completely ruined it all.
Shame.
Tumblr media
... well.. I never fully watched that scene tbh. About Kurama.. that makes me too sad. So I wouldn't know. Sasuke in that scene With Naruto on his lap, that I HAVE seen and I think that is appropriate.. not because I love.. well seeing that, but also the relief on his face was just enough, no? They have to be very carful with his expressions because showing too much doesn't suit him either- but like Nonee above said... at least acknowledge it? 😰 And then.. or anything.. something.. gosh..

Hi I came from your Naruhina Parent criticism post and I have to say I agree. Hinata really lets Naruto get off with not spending time with his kids. Also Naruto is awful for not prioritising his family. I lowkey think he places his family and the village on the same level in his mind. And struggles to make the distinction between them. Family is Village and Village is Family. Which naturally doesn't sit right with Boruto. Naruto should prioritise his family first and then the village. He has a responsibility towards his family as a father. There are other people like Shikamaru to handle village matters as and when needed.
Thank you! That post started off as a mad rant and someday I'll work on a cohesive meta post about it (it might take long because unfortunately, NH family dynamic reminded me so much of my own).
You're right, anon. Hinata is lenient towards Naruto's behavior. My two cents on that matter and I'll speak on hypotheticals so take it with a grain of salt: I think it's because at some point, Hinata perceived Naruto as a hero who saved her from bullies (when I found out about this in The Last movie, I couldn't help but do a bombastic side eye at everyone involved in that movie) so there's an implication of hero worship there--introducing the part where our heroes can do no wrong and/or overlooking their flaws--and unfortunately, it's plausible due to the consistency of Hinata not addressing the issue.
About Naruto being awful for not prioritizing his family, unfortunately, true. However, he's not the scum awful type. From the way I see it, he's overcompensating. Being Hokage was his dream and he finally achieved it but the position was the means to get the villagers' acknowledgement. Naruto never really got the chance to work around his issues and trauma. It's realistically reflected on his work ethics as Hokage. The whole "everyone in the village is my family" shtick would make sense of Naruto didn't marry. It's the same line of belief that the Third Hokage had and his relationship with Asuma hadn't been smooth sailing--I've observed the same thing with Naruto and Boruto as well.
And the last sentence reminded me of Naruto being hyperindependent. That man got clones running around the village to do errands--part of the grand overcompensating scheme. I swear, Itachi called Naruto out about it in the war arc and told him that he shouldn't do everything by himself and it's okay to depend on your friends. With the way that the sequel conveniently threw everything under the rug, it's evident that they did not take that small detail into consideration.
I'm glad that somehow the NH, the kids, and their household situation isn't as triggering like the first part of that series (some of it are fillers, the point still stands) but NH aren't ready to be parents by all means. That entire Boruto thing was resolved with Sasuke in the picture which is amusing but the issue wouldn't grow that big if Hinata had done something.

https://www.tumblr.com/sunshinecherryblossom/732710854315933696/wtf-it-is-true-oh-my-god-when-is-this
This seems false, what do you think about it?
I find it highly unlikely. Unless someone gives me a legit link to it, I wouldn't consider it. Lots of fake interviews of Kishi are doing rounds in this fandom. And Kishi would never say something like this given how he has treated Sakura's character for 700 chapters and beyond. This part is from his 2010 interview (at Jump Fiesta Tokyo-Japan) :
Tumblr media
When the interviewer asked Kishi about Sakura, and called her a detestable girl (most people can see how Sakura's character is written as a detestable character, can't speak for delusional people), Kishi replied in a very convenient manner - "Realistic girls are like that..."
Lol. Once he calls his character realistic, what can one say? Realistic characters are never black and white, they stand in the grey area. So you can get away by saying - "Oh, she is realistic", without expanding on it.
Shounen characters are generally larger than life type characters to create a large impact since they serve a pedagogic purpose for its target group. People who are from the good guys camp, are generally taken as good, people who are from the bad guys camp are generally perceived as bad. So of course it would confuse people when Sakura is from the good guys camp but acts like a total douchebag. And naturally they would ask questions about it. But Kishi totally avoided to take the more controversial position by saying - she is realistic.
We know Sakura's character can be realistic, many women are the way she is. But is she a good role model for women of any place at any time? No. She doesn't really serve the pedagogic purpose other characters do. She is a negative person, selfish and immature. We know that. But Kishi cannot say it explicitly in his interviews because it would lead to all the other kinds of controversial questions, and would potentially open a can of worms for him. First question would be - If she is from the good guys camp and remains till the end, why did you write her as negative, even after she got so popular? You could have used her character's popularity with the girls to say something inspiring, something kind. So why didn't you? Any other writer would have jumped at the chance. Writers are supposed to work off the popularity of characters in a medium such as commercial serialilized manga.
Kishi kept writing her as detestable. If he could, he would have told them - I wrote her that way because I needed plot device for Naruto and Sasuke's romance which I was writing in the disguise of ninja manga. Team seven is about S and N. It's a love story about them and Sakura doesn't figure anywhere in their relationship and I want to make it clear by showing why.
And I have a feeling quite a lot of Sakura's characterisation comes from his personal experience of women. Of course he couldn't say all that. But he can be indirect about it. Although when you are indirect about something so many times, with context it becomes quite direct. Hehehe
Just look how Gege responded when he was asked a difficult question from Kubo. Female characters are not given much weight in shounen given its target audience. Most female characters in shounen aren't even given half the character development male characters get. And look at Japanese society, it's so patriarchal, who's surprised their representation of female characters is so backward? I doubt most of these mangakas get out very much, to actually put some effort in knowing how women act and why.
Look at Kubo's interview with Gege. Gege's female characters are kickass, as strong as men, as smart and well developed. They have agency, self worth and esteem. Their characters don't revolve around male characters. But female characters like these are beyond Kubo's imagination lol. Look at the female characters in Bleach hahaha. So this is what he asked Gege.
Tumblr media
Kubo finds Jjk women formidable because he cannot even fathom independent women, women who don't depend on men for everything. Lol. They can walk shoulder to shoulder with men, they aren't less than men, like they are in most shounen. But of course, Gege cannot tell Kubo these things. Hehe. Kubo is his senior, and the Japanese have a whole set of etiquette on how to behave with one's senpai. Gege won't say anything even remotely offensive to Kubo, so the best way to deal with such things is to be vague and use self deprecating humor, so as to not appear confrontational, it's a communication tactic. I also use these kinds of tactics when talking to difficult people or people in high positions I don't agree with. I have interviewed hundreds of people in my work. So I understand that one needs to be subtle even in their disagreements.
In Shippuden, later on, Sakura was written with heroine like qualities. So what this means is that Kishi doesn't have a very good opinion on either women or women in shounen. She does get some footage in the manga, where other characters praise her skills, like one would expect a heroine to get. She confesses to Sasuke and Naruto both. Never mind the rejection from both. But it's clear that Kishi would never have made Naruto end up with Sakura who treated Naruto this badly. Kishi is not a fool. He plainly says that she comes off as detestable because that's how she was written. Lol.
Lots of rumours have been doing rounds about Naruto's remake or live action film etc. but as far as I know, nothing such has actually materialised. So I wouldn't worry about it either.
I think it's high time that SS, NH and NrSk accept the reality and move on. It's been years. Sasuke is gay. Naruto is gay. Was established as closeted gay in both parts one and two. He would not suddenly defy his character traits and become straight just because NrSk can't keep it in their pants. So pathetic tch. Guys, there is nothing for you in Naruto except heartbreak. Grow up and move on.
SNS at least have legit reason to still be hopeful. The het shippers have nada. Zilch. Zero. Hehe. But well, who can fight desperation? Not these peeps.

Hi, today they were debating that Kakashi was a bad sensei for Sakura (without counting Naruto and Sasuke) and some points they gave were these:
- he sent her to exams where every year there were several deaths...what a "responsible" sensei
- There was time to train her because the other teams were somewhat better prepared, but Don Punctuality arrived several hours late to all the team meetings. Sakura could learn to release genjutsu in less than a day and the same with climbing trees, if he had dedicated some time to her she would have been able to do something
- Not being able to fight Kin Tsuchi (the sound ninja who pulled her hair) is a sign of a bad teacher and in shippuden she had to be saved because she was facing pure Kage level ninja, but in classic Naruto except for Orochimaru she needed help with pure useless ninja. One thing is to be the weakest of the most broken team in the world (in shippuden) and another very different is to be the weakest ninja in the world, outside of the civilians who can't fight there is absolutely no one weaker than little Sakura, at least not in the canon.
- Tsunade was never seen to cast a genjutsu, it's very likely that she didn't know how (and that's why she didn't teach her that) but Kakashi did know and could use genjutsus...what's his excuse?
I hate debating but I wanted to know what you thought about all that since many of them left me blank and wouldn't know what to say
Ok wow these are all such trash explanations XD
- sent her to the exams where every year there were several deaths. There’s no proof of this? There’s a risk of dying, yes, but there’s no proof that people die every year. Also, ultimately the choice was up to Sakura. Kakashi gave all of team seven the choice, so while he entered them if any of them had said they weren’t ready, he would have pulled the whole team. Do they just, ignore that part?
- ‘there was time to train her’ (aka he was always late and missed training time). True, but this is also time the kids could have trained themselves and honed their skills and we only ever see them standing around waiting for Kakashi. They could have also used that time to hone the skills they had, practice what he’d already taught them, etc. They didn’t *shrug*
- not being able to fight kin or the ‘nobodies’ is a sign of weakness? Well gosh, i guess Lee wasn’t prepared either because even though he flattened Sasuke, that team of three sound ninja flattened him. Also, why is anyone acting like it was just sakura vs kin? It was a three vs one scenario because Sasuke and Naruto were unconscious. Lee tried to help but ended up getting flatted as well. They only all got away because team gai and team ten showed up to help, tipping the scales in their favour. No matter how welp kakashi trained sakura, she was in a losing position. Lee had a years worth of training over her and got best
- anyone saying tsunade wouldn’t know how to cast a genjutsu can f*** right off. Girl has high ststes in all area’s, including genjutsu. It’s not her main focus, but you bet your ass she knows how to deal with/use genutsu. Kakashi’s excuse is the story. He only got to teach her the ki release before everything went to shit. He was never given a chance/time to teach after the waves arc
None of these arguments make sense and come from desperate pathetic fan’s who just want to paint Kakashi as a bad sensei instead of paying any attention to the story and understanding that while he is flawed, a lot of the problems that were faced in the chunin exam’s were things he could not have accounted for. Experimently enhanced shinobi (sound nin) a jinchurriki (gaara) and a sannin (orochimaru) were not the standard issues for a genin in the chunin exam’s to face.
Even a team much better preppared like team gai got their asses handed to them.
Also, let’s not pretend choji or Hinata were actually resdy for the exam’s while Sakura wasn’t. Choji made a stupid call and blew his battle (and it was probably a stupid ‘haha’ moment kishi wanted that just fell flat) and Hinata only succeded in a team aspect
Had Hinata or choji been put into the same position as sakura against the sound nin, they would have gotten their asses kicked too
As would kiba and ino tbh, as ino only truly succeded because she had her teams backing. Something Sakura did not have since her teammates were unconscious

what made you pick up this character?
I decided to catch up to Naruto after a few years break and thought Itachi was nice to pick up because of the Edo Tensei arc!
how did you get into this franchise/fandom?
I've always been into Naruto! It just went dormant for a little bit, but like... you never escape lol. I began watching it on Toonami when I was in late middle school tho. U never forget the first time u see the wave arc and Haku dies......
what’s the best thing about the show/series/books/comics/etc.?
The art! Seriously, watching Kishimoto's art develop from the beginning to the end is beautiful.
what’s the worst thing about the show/series/books/comics/etc.?
Uhh. it's hard to say what I legitimately hate! I have criticisms like everyone else but nothing I hate.
what’s the best thing about the fandom?
Fanart and fanfiction! Seriously, I've gotten into so many ships that I wouldn't have given a chance if I hadn't seen fanart or peeked into a fanfic that seemed kinda interesting.
what’s the worst thing about the fandom?
Antis, of course, but on another note the media literacy of the fandom as a whole has sunk into the negatives. Too many people taking things at face value and refusing to let the story unfold infront of them. Characters change!!
what’s the best thing about the canon you are writing?
Itachi is the only character who realized his actions towards Sasuke were is own fault and didn't seek excuses. He knows he hurt Sasuke and that Sasuke didn't owe him any forgiveness or understanding.
what’s the worst thing about the canon you are writing?
How Itachi at 13 years old is treated as if the massacre was preventable, and as if he had the decision making skills of an adult and not a kid who was groomed by both sides since he was seven. "just say no to the massacre lol". But this is more of a fandom problem, really.
have you tweaked the character from canon? if so, what did you tweak?
Kinda! But I like working with the challenge of canon, including the novels. Of course to make certain AUs and character interactions work you have to bend canon to a certain degree.
are there some things you dislike about how the show/series/etc. portray the character you have picked up? if so, what?
Not really! I like Itachi.
what would you say is the most unique trait about your character?
Itachi's self reflection! It took him dying and being revived to realize, but he fucking knows full well his "protection" of Sasuke ended up really hurting him and it's 100% his own fault.
are there any other characters from the franchise you’d like to play?
Not sure! I've already dipped into Sasuke, whom I also love with my whole heart.
are there some characters from the franchise you can’t stand?
From main Naruto series: Sakura :( Mostly because most sakura roleplayers use her as a self insert/projection, I have to say it and it's a really pervasive problem. From Boruto: Daemon. I hate this goblin and I want him to die.
what are your thoughts on the canon ships for the character, if any?
Itachi's only "canon" ship is the implied feelings he had for Izumi! But Izumi is a nice girl, so I like the ship. It's okay!
what is your personal ship bias for your canon character?
I ship most of the main Itachi ships! ItaKisa, ItaShi, ItaSasu. But I also like exploring "non conventional" ships! RP for me is about exploring things we can't see in canon. ItaIzu, ItaSui (Suigetsu), ItaUra (Urashiki from Boruto), ItaMada, ItaIru, ItaKarin... ItaOro (REALLY love this one), etc.
are there any ships you can’t stand, why?
Itachi/Sakura! It's the one I actively avoid specifically with Itachi. Other ships I'm "I don't see it" about are Itachi/Kakashi, and Itachi/Deidara. Nothing wrong with them, I just don't really get it!
how long have you been writing the character?
Since about 2013, so 11 years or so! Tumblr boomer.......
should people get into the franchise you're* writing from, yes or no?
yes. And this includes Boruto. This is a threat.
if you could sum up your character with one sentence, what would it be?
:)?
which song do you feel describes your character the most and why?
Unfortunately I don't have a song! I'm really bad at connecting music and characters.
