That they all just feel dead-eyed and uncanny. This movie deserved better, and instead we get this halfassed excuse of a “style blend of 2D and 3D” that they want to call a love letter to hand drawn animation, and yet it has none of the charm or likability. And since the characters aren’t cartoon-y enough, the cartoony expressions feel out of place.

I won’t even get into the songs, which sound like they were written by someone with very little songwriting experience trying to imitate the success of Encanto’s music, but not understanding how it worked. No, that’s an issue for another time.
