I have to say, the Avengers game's story has really impressed me. The plot itself is so-so and unfortunately bears the baggage of telling an Avengers Disassembled story not one year after Endgame (it even features the same five year time jump) but to counter this it has Ms. Marvel front an centre.
Kamala Khan has been a breakout character in the comics for some time now, but is still not particularly well known by the public at large. This enables Crystal Dynamics to craft an origin story that is also an Avengers story, told from the perspective of a fan.
It works neatly within the narrative and I confess to getting the same thrill seeing Thor appear onscreen as Kamala did. We share these moments with her and feel her losses and triumphs. It's also easier to build a story on her when there is much less weight of expectation of what Kamala is "supposed" to be like compared with the other Avengers (remember the outcry when they didn't look exactly like the MCU versions?).
That being said, before I heap more praise, I do find it a bit strange that although we see the origin incident that causes Kamala to gain powers and her transition from keyboard warrior to super hero, we never actually see her discover her powers and the transition is a little jarring. One moment she's fleeing the events of A-day and the next she's bounding over rooftops. Considering the relatively slow burn intro it may have been cut for time, but it still feels a bit off.
To delve in then, the voice work surprised me. All the trailers and the beta showed off a fairly generic reading of the 5 veteran Avengers, most noticeably Nolan North who at points seemed to be channeling his Deadpool by way of Nathan Drake for Tony Stark, and Travis Willingham, despite being an old hand at Thor seemed worryingly hammy. In the game proper however, each actor is surprisingly nuanced, particularly Sandra Saad who bears the brunt of the narrative on her shoulders as Ms Marvel. She sells every moment with Kamala and brings earnestness to the character that helps temper the relatively dark setting the game has gone with. However, it was Troy Baker who surprised me most with a performance that really captures the withdrawn and introverted energy of Bruce Banner in a way I didn't really expect to see in a video game. So often he is just there to talk on Hulk's behalf or play a generic scientist, so it was actually quite disarming to essentially see him as Kamala's mentor. Nolan North also brought a much more tortured energy to Tony than the previews would have had you believe, he quips a lot, sure, but when he speaks with sincerity, you feel it. Travis Willingham won me over in his first scene, balancing the Shakespearean classic Thor with some Ragnarok attitude thrown in there. Laura Bailey remains excellent in everything so little surprise there.

Her gameplay looks fun, I’ve been a fan of the character in the comics since her first issue. How they rendered her costume looks amazing.
And... Well if there’s a roadtrip with Bruce ‘Troy Baker’ Banner in Dad mode, I’m all for it. I loved the last game Troy Baker was in dad mode and that had a road trip.

Young Avengers: Season One - Headcanon Voices (Batch 1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While currently working on the young avengers story and establishing characters. How they were introduced to the world that they lived in. Between multiple things happen in person. Got ideas during my free time thought-up as Headcanon voice actors for a team. Never like a series, maybe motion comics like you’re seen online like Twitter, Tumblr or YouTube. Imagine doing an animatic type voice with borrowed voice chips from actors and having artists drawn like those characters with each respective voice actor.
Spider-Man (Vincent Martella)
Speed (Jack Griffo)
Shuri (Daisy Lightfoot)
X-23 (Kira Buckland)
Ms. Marvel (Sandra Saad)
Hawkeye (Ashly Burch)

How to be an Ally
 Discussions on Race Pt. 2
June 29, 2020
Day 1 of 7
Post with fixed links here!:
https://emerald-studies.tumblr.com/post/626271345488150528/how-to-be-an-ally
Reblog this one!
[ These are just some thoughts I have in my head about this topic, it isn’t meant to be a purely academic discussion. It’s meant to be a conversation to learn about another perspective. ]
Also sorry this one took longer than previous posts, I had to do a lot of research.
-
1.  Check In On Your Black Friends/Acquaintances
In my opinion, I believe the best way to be an ally is to reach out to your Black friends and check in on them, consistently. If you can recognize the times we are living in are absolute hell, you should be checking in on the most effected. None of my friends have checked up on me to see how I was doing or just to talk. They didn’t even bring up the protests until I did. It feels very very lonely and scary to not be checked up on by the people who say they support and love you. So, I’m making this the first point because I don’t want anyone else to feel this way, not trying to complain.
2.  Learn More About Black History
It’s important to learn about the Black activists that our history books left out. Yes, Martin Luther King Jr. was, and is, important but we need to reflect on why he was pushed on us so much in our history classes, compared to other Black leaders. Is it because our government would rather us walk down the street holding signs than actually defending ourselves against the cop who’s beating us?
Here’s a master list of activists to start you off.
3.  Go to Rallies and Protests
Find protests and rallies in your area by looking on Twitter and search #yourcityprotest. Or watch your local news channel to see where they are (if they’re being covered on the news). Also search on Facebook. Wear a mask.
4. Donate and Sign Petitions
If you don’t have extra money to donate, that’s fine. If you still want to be an ally then sign all the petitions you can. Take a day to research all the ones you can sign/haven’t signed and sign them!
(Also you don’t need to donate to change.org! Directly donate to non-profit organizations and victims’ families!)

Heroines of WOCtober: Kamala Khan
Kamala Khan was a normal nerdy Pakistani Muslim girl from Jersey City until the day she was caught in the cloud of Terrigen Mist that was released during a battle between Thanos and Black Bolt - leader of the Inhumans, secret  society of genetically engineered by Kree superhumans. Everyone caught in the cloud who was a descendant of an Inhuman would be transformed, gaining superpowers and Kamala got abilities to shapeshift. She decided to become a hero and protector of Jersey City, taking up old codename of her idol, Carol Danvers - Ms. Marvel
Recommended Readings:
Ms. Marvel #1-19 - Kamala’s original series that introduces us to the character and her supporting cast.
All-New All-Different Avengers #1-12 + Annual - Kamala meets Sam Alexander and Miles Morales, who will become her closest superhero friends, as three of them become protegees of a new Avengers team.
Standoff: Assault on the Pleasant Hill - A crossover with Uncanny Avengers, new Avengers and Captain America: Sam Wilson that ANAD Avengers took a part in issues
Ms. Marvel #1-38 - Kamala’s second solo series, first issue is set after ANAD Avengers #3.
Champions #1-27 - Pick it after #11 issue of her second series, it has Kamala, frustrated about Avengers’ various failures as of late (*cough*CivilWarII*cough*) set of to start her own team with Miles, Sam, Amadeus Cho the new Hulk, Vision’s daughter Viv and time-displaced teenage Cyclops.
Avengers #672-674 - Part of crossover with Champions issues #13-15
Secret Warriors #1-12 - Happening during Hydra takeover of USA Kamala was absent from an issue or two of Champions and this is where she was - teaming up with other Inhumans - Daisy Johnson, Karnak, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur and Inferno - to stop Hydra from hunting down members of that species.
Generations: Ms. Marvel & Ms. Marvel - Kamala is transported to the part to team-up with Carol Danvers during her Ms. Marvel days
Champions #1-10 - Direct sequel to the original series, Champions go globally but things quickly start to go wrong once a classic Marvel villain takes an interest.
Marvel Rising: Squirrel Girl & Ms. Marvel - A miniseries for some godforsaken reason published as a series of one-shots with confusing titles, it’s about Kamala’s team up with Squirrel Girl to stop one of her schoolmates from descending into supervillainy. Thankfully also collected as a Graphic Novel.
Marvel Rising #1-6 - Second Marvel Rising series, now a proper team-up with other teen heroes liek Squirrel Girl or America Chavez against Morgan Le Fay.
Avengers: Back To Basics #1-6  - what starts up as Kamala watching recordings of unknown Avengers’ adventures turns into her having to fight one of their deadliest foes.
Marvel Team-Up #1-6 - Has two stories where Kamala teams up with Spider-Ma and then with Captain Marvel, ends in November
Magnificent Ms. Marvel #1-ongoing - Kamala’s current series by Saladin Ahmed.
Guest Appearances
Amazing Spider-Man #7-8 - Kamala hears there is a supervillain impersonating Carol Danvers and runs to fight her, joining forces with Peter Parker in the process.
S.H.I.E.L.D. #2 - Kamala teams up with agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and she and Phil Coulson try to outnerd one another.
Nova #3-4 - set during the ANAD days, Kamala, Miles and Sam go on a patrol together.
Spider-Man #3, #8-10, #239-240 - Respectively - in #3 Kamala shows up to tease Miles a bit during ANAD days; #8-10 deal with events of Civil War II, first with Kamala, Miles and Sam coping after witnessing Hulk’s death and then Kamala and Sam searching for Miles as he goes missing; #239-240 has Kamala among Champions who come to aid miles against new Sinsiter Six.
Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur #9-11, #18, #37 - Kamala’s team-ups with fellow Inhuman, supergenius Lunella Lafayette and her pet T-Rex Devil Dinosaur
Nova #2 - Kamala and other Champions are called by Sam when he runs into his suddenly resurrected predecessor, Richard Rider, it’s few pages but they’re hilarious.
Totally Awesome Hulk #15-18, #23 and Incredible Hulk #715-717 - #15-18 has Kamala and Amadeus among Asian superheroes who participated in a charity event together, later went for dinner and then got to fight aliens; #23 has her among heroes Amadeus asks for help reining in his inner Hulk and #715-717 has her among heroes who try to stop Amadeus once he loses control of that Hulk.
Spider-Gwen #17 and Spider-Man #14 - Yes, Kamala shows up to basically shill on the idea of Miles and Gwen hooking up, buuuut she is also the best part of these issues.
Shuri #6-7 - Team up between Shuri, Kamala and Miles
Tony Stark: Iron Man #11 - Kamala is among other Champions who try to stop Controller’s rampage
Gwenpool Holiday Special 2015 - Not on ComiXology. It has Kamala in her own story and also on Avengers’ Holiday party with Gwen.
Alternate Versions
Exiles #1-5, #11-12 - An old, grizzled veteran Kamala from postapocalyptic future.
Attilan Rising #1-5 - Set during Secret Wars on Battleworld, a mash-up of alternate worlds, ruled by Doctor Doom, in this one Inhumans are torn in conflict between Black Bolt and Medusa and Kamala is
Secret Wars: Secret Love - Another Secret Wars story, this time with alternate versions of Kamala and Robbie Reyes
All-New Wolverine #33 - Set in utopian future where Kamala is THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
Other Media:
Kathreen Khavari voices Kamala in animated Avengers Assemble and Marvel Rising series as well as in video game Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

Sandra Saad will be voicing Kamala in the upcoming Square Enix’s Avengers games
Kamala also appears in video games Lego Marvel’s Avengers, Avengers Academy, Marvel Future Fight, Marvel Contest of Champions, Marvel Heroes, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 and Marvel First Strike.
