FINE. I'll write a Chiyo/Sakura vs. Sasori post to understand why it has this fandom in such a chokehold.

In lieu of so many people still accusing Kankuro of stealing the Sasori and Mom and Dad puppets, I feel compelled to write in an attempt to defend him. He did not steal them. That's exactly what Sasori wanted him to do. Just look at the 1st gif again, notice Kankuro's sad and guilty expression. Does this look like a man who's dying to steal someone else's belongings? The scene in the cave obviously pains him. He can feel the pain of the battle that had unfurled there. It's further proven, though it's not shown in these images, by him walking towards the puppets and wrapping Mom and Dad's arms around Sasori when he first sees them.

He's such an empathetic character that he could feel Sasori's pain. In addition to that, we don't get a scene of the exact moment he took the puppets cause that's not what this scene was trying to convey. Sasori's philosophy, in his art, is that of eternal beauty. Of being timeless and everlasting. In order for him to achieve that, he'll need someone to inherit his art and spirit, to pass them down to the next gen and the next, so his name and impact will never be forgotten. That's Kankuro's role. He's the link between Sasori and the next generations. It doesn't matter if you don't think he's worthy he's still the only candidate (for frick's sake, he's just 17 for most of Shippuden). Do you really think it would've been better for him to leave them rotting in that cave? To show up in the war and be like, "wassup Sas I saw your life's work in the cave where you died and still didn't pick it up cause it would've been disrespectful or whatever." Do you have any idea how that would've made Sasori feel?

Besides, if Kankuro really wanted power, then he would've also picked up the 3rd Kazekage puppet. The puppet that allows its user to control iron sand, thus making them nearly as strong as Gaara? But nothing is said about the 3rd Kazekage puppet. Because Kankuro wasn't doing it in pursuit of power. He was doing it with hopes of conserving the legacy of Akasuna no Sasori. And I respect him a lot for it.

not only is she from konoha, but she’s jiraiya’s teammate. this isn’t a dealbreaker because they did hire orochimaru at one point, but still. complicated feelings.

kind of notorious which is not helpful as a clandestine organization of missing-nin. even if she learned to be more subtle, that would just raise the question of “hey, where the fuck did tsunade go”

if kakuzu has already been hired, this is a shitshow waiting to happen. She’s hashirama’s granddaughter. She’s terrible with money. She cannot be killed. He is already 3 seconds away from an aneurism at all times, this might just make him flip out completely.

I don't mean to offend anyone with this because I'm just speaking my mind. It's something I've noticed and that I find curious to say the least. It's concerning the sand sibs and their first appearance in Shippuden; you know, the arc where Gaara is kidnapped by Akatsuki and loses his tailed beast.

When talking about this arc or discussing anything concerning it, especially the developing bond between the sand sibs after Gaara became Kazekage. Fans always say that both Kankuro and Temari did their best to try and rescue Gaara and that a big chunk of the arc features them trying to get their brother back, which is not true. First of all, for some reason, Kishimoto completely sidelined the sand sibs in this arc. They don't do much. Gaara has one fight vs. Deidara and he spends the rest of the arc dead, literally. Kankuro chases after Sasori, but the actual details of their fight are anime only. They're not shown in the manga. Most of the focus is on team 7, and I can kinda appreciate giving Sakura some spotlight where she's not obsessing over Sasuke and actually gets shit done.

Second of all, Temari literally does nothing the whole arc. I think, if I remember correctly, we're only shown the scenes of her in the Leaf walking around with Shikamaru. Initially, we're not even told what she's there for exactly, cause it's not till much later on we're told she was there on a diplomatic mission preparing for the next chunin exams. This led some fans to assume she was there just to go on a date with Shikamaru. Which is hilarious to even reach that conclusion when 1- By the beginnings of Shippuden, Shikamaru would've been 15-16 while Temari was 18-19. I'm not accusing Tem of preying on a teen, mind you. I just find it interesting? Some fans would seriously believe they'd be dating at that point. And 2- also so funny when in the anime they showed the contrast in scenes between Suna going to Hell with Deidara's attack while Temari is just..... chilling in Konoha, completely unknowing of the situation. And when she's there, she's not allowed to help in any way. I think she's sent on guard duty? Then, she joined a group composed by her, Kankuro, Matsuri (Gaara's crazy fangirl), and Chiyo's brother (the old man with huge eyebrows) to go after Gaara and team 7. Which is crazy that she wasn't even allowed to join the council meeting with Kankuro. Like, why was the previously dying man allowed to join but not her?

All this is why I can't help but frown and lift my eyebrows every time I see people giving her as much credit as Kankuro. Yeah, the details of Kanks fight vs. Sasori are anime only, but the outcome was one and the same: he got something from that confrontation. The piece of Sasori's cape he got is the only clue that helped team 7 find the Akatsuki hideout in the desert and rescue Gaara. Temari was also so rude, shit-talking Kankuro when he first called her from guard duty, and then berating both Kankuro and Naruto when they showed concern for Gaara when she was doing the same thing.

I don't know. This is one of my favorite arcs, but it's also the first arc that made me start thinking Temari is not as useful as everyone believes she is, and she's given way too much credit, while Kankuro's feats go largely underappreciated. It's also what made her my least favorite of the sand sibs. I don't hate her cause she did nothing to deserve the hate. She's not that bad and comparatively one of the most decent female characters in Naruto. She's just kinda overrated for such a minor character who does so little, and yet people keep insisting and claiming she's better-written and more useful than Kank when that's not the case.

sasori is sakura's government assignent manlet villain that was created exclusively to showcase her improvement and character growth. here are my points in no particular order:

students with famous mentors who share a common past (tsunade/chiyo)

having a common figure one wanted to protect (barely knowing them) and one wanted to destroy (knowing them their whole life)

being an extension of their mentors

sakura's other mentor being the son of sasori's parents' killer

the only person aiding sakura coincidentally being the only person sasori is related to

sakura's super strength being the only thing that successfully breaks sasori out of hiruko's body and also the only reason the third is destroyed (something that never happened before)

sasori's impossibly complicated poison being combated by sakura in minutes, the antidote being repurposed as a buff (so we know she can do that)

sakura being able to figure out sasori's fighting pattern in minutes (so we know she can do that)

sasori's fighting style used to show sakura's quick reflexes (so we know she can do that)

being the first and last two people he has every needed to resort using his best weapon (himself) on

knowing both orochimaru and kabuto (one's info used as a central reward for the other)

fighting sasori showcases sakura protecting ppl that aren't in her immediately circle (chiyo)

sakura openly questioning a villain on their humanity and their logic (something she hasnt been able to do on her own, so we know she can do that)

sasori and sakura both having silly season related names

sasori and sakura both having a blonde with bangs companion whom they do not respect enough and also happen to share their sister signs with

only fight that she was involved in and did not have interrupted or taken over by other team 7 members

and last but not least the playing field being leveled by having next to no prestigious bloodline abilities or super buffs involved. everything sasori threw at them was in some way countered by chiyo-sakura

and that was what? 20 years after the fact? PEAK. exactly

Sakura Haruno Appreciation Post

Rewatching Naruto and reading the manga has made me feel like posting about one of my favorite characters in the series, Sakura. At first, nothing about her really stood out to me. She was the typical teenage girl who had a crush on a guy who really didn't seem to care about her at all. As time went on, though, small things about her stood out to me. Her affinity for genjutsu (something that I wished Kishimoto touched on more) and her chakra control was better than both Naruto's and Sasuke's, something that I wasn't expecting from her at all. It's not like she was much of a fighter at this point, and she needed protecting more often than not. Sakura's character didn't really start to peak for me until the chunin exams in the Forest Of Death. This scene in particular:

The moment she cut off her hair to free herself from Kin's grip, I knew that she meant business, that she would finally start taking her life as being a ninja more seriously. Why? Because she cut her long hair, something that she was proud of simply because she heard a rumor back when she was a little girl that said that Sasuke liked girls with long hair. Sakura was no much for the sound ninja, of course, and she's eventually bailed out by Ino and her team, and later on by Sasuke himself when he wakes up. Seeing how beat up she was because of that fight, and how she wouldn't back down because she wanted to protect her teammates no matter what, made her character grow on me.

Then we get up to the preliminary round of the chunin exams, and it's there when one of my favorite fights in the chunin exams happens: Sakura vs Ino.

This fight is where Sakura slowly starts to sprout from a bud into a fully bloomed flower. She takes her fight against Ino seriously, and gives it her all. When Ino used the mind transfer jutsu on her, I thought that that would be it for Sakura. But she managed to kick Ino out of her mind thanks to inner Sakura (another aspect of her character that I wish Kishimoto did more with, but I get why she just sorta vanishes after a while) and the match resumes between them. It ends in a tie, but it was still a really good fight regardless. It showed that Sakura really can fight if she wants too, and it put an end to her rivalry with Ino, allowing them to become friends again. After this fight I definitely had more respect for her character.

When Sasuke eventually leaves the village to join Orochimaru, Sakura felt that she was worthless because not only was she unable to do anything, but Naruto got hurt in his fight against Sasuke because of the promise he made to her to bring Sasuke back. So, she does something that I didn't expect her to do: ask Tsunade to take her on as an apprentice.

We can see how those three years of training with Tsunade paid off, since Sakura can not only stand toe to toe in a fight against Kakashi fighting alongside Naruto, she also has enough strength to take on an Akatsuki member like Sasori:

This fight definitely showed how much better as a fighter Sakura has gotten in three years. Yes, I'm well aware that Lady Chiyo helped her in this fight, but she still did an excellent job of holding her own. Aside from her physical prowess, we also see how far she's come as medical ninja as well. Going from reviving a dead fish to doing something as critical as cutting Naruto open to pump his heart in order to keep him alive during the 4th Great Ninja war:

And it's during this time that she was finally able to stand next to Naruto and Sasuke in battle, instead of always walking behind them and watching their backs get farther and farther away from her. Idk about you guys, but watching these three perform the summoning jutsu at the same time, doing their own three way deadlock like the original legendary sanin before them was so fucking badass:

We already knew that both Naruto and Sasuke had long since surpassed their masters, Jiraiya and Orochimaru. But until this moment, it was unclear if Sakura had truly surpassed Tsunade or if she was just on her level. This scene right here definitely showed that Sakura has indeed surpassed Tsunade, making her, Naruto, and Sasuke the new legendary sanin.

Watching Sakura grow throughout the series was really nice to see, not to mention inspiring for me to watch as a young girl. Her growing determination to better herself and stand the same level as her teammates is why she is and always will be one of my favorite characters in the series, if not my most favorite character.

And this Naruto Shippuden completes its 10 and a half year run on Toonami

I remember the night pretty well. January 4th, 2014. The same night Space Dandy premiered. Naruto itself was running on the ass-end of the block, but Shippuden was on at 12:30 right after Bleach, and right before One Piece (A Big Three sandwich) As the Naruto Manga was also ending around this point and my interest in Naruto kinda piqued at this point since it was ending, I decided to give Shippuden a shot. It sucked. Like sucked mean cock, like a total downgrade to what made Naruto a decent Shonen anime, yet I still watched it, because it was on Toonami.

Through the few peaks, and many, many, MANY valleys in its run, I still watched it Gaara getting kidnapped, Sasori (my man) fighting Racist Sand Granny Chiyo with her Sakura flesh puppet, Kurama bitch-slapping Sakura. Asuma's death episode 82 with the God-tier animation, and Shikamaru's plan to kill Hidan, Episode 167 with Naruto and Pain's Looney Tunes-ass fight that predates Gear 5 Luffy vs Kaido's intentionally wacky fight. Other great parts include Killer Bee making Sasuke eat shit in a fight in the Cloud Village even after getting his band of misfits, the entire Toonami tag on Tumblr shitting on Sakura and her fake-ass love confession to get Naruto to stop pining for the Sauce that even HE knew was horseshit so much that we got a video compilation of everyone's posts (thanks wherever you are @lunarspiral1127).

Shit gets hazy after this part but Madara's entire arc, Guy vs Madara, the Mecha Naruto filler episode, the final battle was kinda neat, and a few of these NaruHina wedding episodes were already pretty good, but there was more godawful stuff in this era, like the Gay Armadillo Cock episode, and the Black Zetsu/Kaguya reveal and the shit that ensued after that, and that long fucking stretch of post-manga filler we got that was made to pad time for them to come out with Bort.

AND ESPECIALLY THAT FUCKING OSTRICH WITH THE BOWTIES, FUCK THAT GUY

And so, we finish off with a staple (or tumor if you want to be more correct) of Toonami for the last 10 and a half years that had a few ups, many downs, but stuck through it all even after it was relevant. Honestly surprised that Toonami outlived the Shippuden run, but we certainly are richer for having lost it.

FINAL SCORE (for Shippuden itself, not Naruto as a whole): 4/10

Oh, man, where do I even start, lol? Naruto has so many peak moments.

The fights are awesome. So many memorable ones. Rock Lee vs Gaara? Gai vs Madara? Both Naruto vs Sasuke fights? Naruto vs Pain (oh, man, I wish I could relive watching this one for the first time 😩. Rarely have I ever felt such excitement for an anime fight)... The fights are so well choreographed, like martial arts, that they still hold up today. Heck, they're better than many fights in newer anime.

Every time Naruto was acknowledged by people such as after he defeated Pain.

Loved when Naruto bonded with people, made them see the light. When he proved everyone wrong. When he inspired others.

Loved the scenes where he trained, worked hard. How he got stronger, how he learned things.

When he shot down Sakura's fake confession. He was having none of that! 😂

When everyone during the war saw/felt Naruto's feelings & pain from his past when they were enveloped in his Nine-Tails chakra.

Naruto bonding with the Tailed Beasts. Only my boy could! 😭 And the Tailed Beast Counting Song is so cute! 💖

Naruto meeting his parents when they'd appeared to him in crucial moments 😭. Also, when Minato told him Happy Birthday & their farewell scene at the end of the war.

Gaara discovering his mom's blessing 😭. She loved him all along.

Sasuke finally getting humbled at the end, admitting his jealousy towards Naruto, & apologizing to his teammates.

All NaruHina moments, such as Hinata encouraging Naruto before his fight with Neji at the Chunin Exams, her sacrifice in trying to help him against Pain, Naruto feeling thankful he didn't harm her after defeating Pain, Hinata being the only one who recognized him when he'd arrived to the battlefield of the war in his Nine-Tails mode, Naruto encouraging her when he saw she looked down, Hinata's encouraging words after Neji's death, Naruto thanking her & holding her hand while giving her his chakra... The date chapter post-ending and of course, moments in The Last: Naruto The Movie, the wedding episode...

I enjoyed scenes with other characters like Gaara, Kakashi, Sasori, Deidara, among others. Enjoyed the backstories & stuff.

Ohhh I have so many.

From Og Naruto.

When Naruto whinned about doing another 'boring mission' and asked if they were going to chase cats again, and Kakashi just responded with a 'purrhaps'.

His whole talk about the importance of teamwork and protecting your teammates. His beliefs are made clear from day one and it's very friend oriented which i love.

How he showed respect to Zabuza, the man he'd been fighting just minutes before.

When he talks to Naruto about rivals and looks at Gai. after playing the 'cool guy' and continuing to bother Gai by asking him what he'd said it was really cool to see that he clearly felt the same way about their rivalry as Gai did.

Saving Sakura in the Konoha Crush. no hesitation, man cut two shinobi down in an instant to protect his daughter student

Walking away from Tsunade while she was trying to give him a new mission and heading out to find his students instead.

Fighting back to back with Gai in the konoha crush arc. Up to this point Kakashi has been a protector. the one guarding his students and fighting alone. To see him fighting back to back with someone, thus protecting them while allowing them to protect him, was really cool and showed how deep their bond is.

when he told Iruka that Naruto was working to be a shinobi like him. He was being so sweet and cheerful, and i love how he reminds Iruka just how much Naruto looks up to him.

Knowing how to open the first gate. It's pretty clear Kakashi has rather negative feelings about the gates when he finds out Gai taught them to Lee, but here he is using the first gate because he can at least appreciate its use (but still sticks to using only the gate that doesn't cause any significant negative effects to his body)

Shippuden

How he just talks to Lady Chiyo when they're on their way to locate Sasori and Deidara. Dude has no reason really to be nice to her considering the welcome he got from her, but when she asked about Naruto's drive to save Gaara Kakashi did not hold back on telling her about his student. (In general just how he treats everyone around him with kindness, even his enemies)

Getting frustrated with Naruto not listening to him and physiclly having to grab him and pull him back in their fight against Deidara because he needs Naruto to work WITH him, not against him because he's allowing his anger to get to him. big mood my dude.

How he spent his time stuck in the hospital thinking about how to improve the team, and ultimately accepted that the only person he could really help improve at the ridiculous rate they needed was Naruto. If he could have found a way to improve his own skills at that incredable pace i have no doubt he would have gone with that idea, but he accepted that it was time for him to help Naruto surpass him.

How he stepped in without hesitation to save Team Gai when Deidra decided to blow himself up in hopes of taking them down with him

how he does the same thing for Iruka, putting himself into a battle against Pein he has next to no chance of winning so he can give others an opportuity to escape to safety.

His cute challenges with Gai. I just love how he actually lets himself relax and goes full dork mode around Gai <3

how he smiles at Sai and tells him that he belives in him

"Sensei is sorry" it's so stupid but cute and I love how he obviously recognizes he needs to explain things a bit slower for Naruto.

Bullying tenzo. One is not a true friend if you cannot bully each other XD

Being such a sneaky shit that he's able to take out Kakuzu's first heart before his presence is even known.

his background! The loss of his father, Obito's death, Rin's death, Minato's death. This man really watched as people around him dropped like flies and still refused to stop believing in other people.

And so so so much more. I love a lot of what he does and who he is. He's a facinating character
